Shalom beloved, you are warmly welcome to today's morning glory devotion.

We are Pastor and Deaconess Kiyosin from the Harvest Chapel International,

Denyame Komase. We count it a great privilege to come

your way as we continue our devotional series titled, Rest

for our souls. Let us kindly share a word of prayer.

Dear Father, we thank you for another opportunity to sit

at your feet and hear your word. Please teach us

your truth and guide our steps into your peace. In

Jesus' mighty name. Amen. Amen. Let us kindly take our

confession for today from Joshua chapter 1 verse 8. Joshua

chapter 1 verse 8 This book of the law shall

not depart from my mouth, but I shall meditate in

it day and night, that I may observe to do

according to all that is written in it. For then

I will make my way prosperous, and then I will

have good success.

Part 2. The Search for Rest. Our scripture reading shall

be taken from Hebrews chapter 11 verse 8 to 10

Hebrews 11:8–10

to 10 and verses 13 to 16. I will be

reading from the New King James Version. Faithful Abraham By faith,

Abraham obeyed when he was called out to go to

the place which he would receive as an inheritance, and

he went out not knowing where he was going. By faith,

he dwelt in the land of promise as in a

foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the

heirs with him of the same promise. for he waited

for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker

is God. The verses 13 to 16 The heavenly hope

These all died in faith, not having received their promises,

but having seen them afar off, were assured of them,

embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims

on the earth. For those who say such things declare

plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly, if they

had called to mine that country from which they had

come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But

now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country.

Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God,

for he has prepared a city for them. The Lord

add his blessings to the reading and hearing of his word.

Rest for our souls, part 2. The search for rest.

Yesterday in part 1, we saw that rest was lost

in Eden when sin broke our fellowship with God. The

moment humanity was driven out of the garden, an endless

search for rest began. Driven by an inner vacuum, a

void within, humanity began wandering the earth, looking for something,

anything that could restore the peace we left behind. Have

you ever found yourself saying, when I get there, I

will finally rest? We tell ourselves, When I finish this degree,

when I secure this job, when I finally get married,

when we have our children, when I relocate abroad, when

I build this house, when I retire, then I will

find rest. We convince ourselves that peace or rest is

waiting for us over there at the next milestone, at

the next destination, or after the next promotion. So we

pack our bags, push our bodies, chase the next goal,

and run towards it with all our passion and zeal,

hoping that somewhere along the way we will finally find rest. Beloved,

humanity has become accustomed to chasing the next big thing

because deep within the heart of every person is an

earnest search for true rest. The patriarchs of old were

no different. In Genesis chapter 12, God called Abraham to

leave his country, his people, and his father's house. Abraham obeyed,

setting out on a lifelong journey. He traveled across deserts,

pitched his tents in strange lands, and dug wells. Isaac

did the same, and so did his son Jacob. living

on the move and journeying from one territory to another.

From the outside, it might have looked as though they

were simply searching for comfortable grazing land, greater prosperity or

a secure place to settle. But the writer of Hebrews

pulls back the curtain and shows us what was truly

happening in their They lived in tents because they recognized

that no earthly settlement could ever be their ultimate home.

Scripture tells us that they confessed that they were strangers

and pilgrims on the earth. They were not looking merely

for real estate, wealth, or fame. Their hearts were longing

for a heavenly country, one whose builder and maker is God. Beloved,

is your heart also seeking and searching earnestly for true rest?

Has the void within your heart been filled? Are you

hoping to find rest when you get over there, when

you reach that destination, or when you finally lay hold

of that breakthrough your heart so much desires? If this

is the state of your heart, you are not alone.

This is the plight of humanity. Ever since the fall

in Eden, the human heart has been searching. And perhaps

that is why we keep moving, pursuing, hoping, and telling ourselves,

when I get there, I will finally rest. Join us

on our quest for rest for our souls. Tomorrow morning,

by God's grace, we will follow Israel as they finally

arrive at the destination they had long been waiting for.

And when they do, we will discover something profound about

the rest our souls truly need. God richly bless you. Amen.

Let us kindly share a word of prayer. Heavenly Father,

we thank you for the blessing of your word today.

Please forgive us for running restlessly from place to place

in the hope of finding rest for our souls. Deliver

us from the illusion that a change of job, marriage, children, promotion,

or some location can heal our inner weariness. Teach our

souls to stop wondering and anchor our longings in your presence,

O Lord, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen. Amen.
