  1. Amen. Good morning. How we doing,

  2. collective?

  3. Let's go, guys. What an incredible uh

  4. week and day we've had already. Uh I

  5. want to highlight it is not Easter

  6. Sunday, but I'm still celebrating the

  7. resurrection. How about

  8. y'all? I am. I'm grateful. We're going

  9. to be uh every everything we do is in

  10. response to the things that Jesus has

  11. done for us. And that's why if this is

  12. your first time here and you're like,

  13. "These people are a little bit crazy. I

  14. don't know why they're worshiping their

  15. hands. They're they're raising their

  16. hands. I don't know why I see people

  17. down on their knees." Like these people,

  18. they must like actually really believe

  19. this stuff. Yes. And amen. Amen. Right.

  20. And uh I I do not ever I do not ever

  21. want to live as

  22. if I come across as complacent or

  23. unchanged.

  24. by the spirit of God and by the life and

  25. story of Jesus.

  26. So as we talk about this this

  27. unstoppable series, I want to before we

  28. jump in, I want to highlight something

  29. because last week when we had on Easter

  30. Sunday, we did a survey and we had on

  31. that survey uh a number of people

  32. marked, I am making a decision right

  33. now to submit my life to Jesus

  34. Christ for the first time or the first

  35. time in a a long time and we have 33

  36. people that marks that. Come on. Can we

  37. give some praise to God for what he's

  38. doing? That is

  39. insane. That is insane. I was

  40. celebrating with some pastors this week

  41. about what God was doing. And it's just

  42. incredible what he's doing in this

  43. house. It's amazing how he is moving in

  44. a people that's just coming saying, "I

  45. don't know what's going to happen, but I

  46. know God's going to show up." And so I

  47. want to encourage you guys today, grab

  48. out, if you don't have it, grab out a

  49. notebook and a Bible, open up your notes

  50. tab in your in your phone. Today's

  51. message is going to be especially

  52. notetaking worthy. So I want to

  53. encourage you guys to jump into that. Uh

  54. if you don't have a physical Bible with

  55. you, it's okay. God forgives you. I

  56. don't know if I will, but God does. Just

  57. kidding. Uh but I seriously, you can

  58. mark it up on your own. It's great to be

  59. able to have notes in the side for

  60. yourself. I encourage you guys to do

  61. that and your Bible doesn't get

  62. notifications that pop up. So, it makes

  63. it a lot less distracting. Uh, but I

  64. want to highlight, we all know, we all

  65. know the story about the person

  66. that has come, they're like life is

  67. together. They've got everything. Things

  68. are going great. They're taking their

  69. relationship with the Lord seriously.

  70. They're doing well in in work. Their

  71. friendships are

  72. thriving. They've knocked off old habits

  73. and life has changed. And

  74. then there starts to be a slide. There

  75. starts to be a

  76. drift, right? We've seen that. And at at

  77. at the beginning, it's hard to really

  78. put a I just saying, I don't know, the

  79. pulse is different. Things have just

  80. changed. It doesn't seem it doesn't seem

  81. quite as invested.

  82. and pretty soon start to see around less

  83. often. Pretty soon you don't see them at

  84. church at all. After a little while

  85. things have started to fall. Some old

  86. habits have picked up. Some old friends

  87. have started coming around

  88. again and then then then old old things

  89. start coming up again. Then we get

  90. problems we get and starting to drift

  91. and purpose is gone and hope is gone and

  92. and then there's It's It's like where

  93. did they go? What happened? And maybe

  94. that's been some of your

  95. stories. I don't really I don't know. I

  96. don't really know what happened. Like

  97. Jesus and I were

  98. tight. And then and then things just

  99. started to

  100. change. I tell you, there's there's a

  101. few main reasons I've seen for this.

  102. Number one, and the biggest reason I've

  103. seen is friendships.

  104. The vast majority of stories that I've

  105. heard of people like this, the story

  106. goes, "And then I started hanging out

  107. with this one

  108. crowd." The second reason I've seen

  109. behind

  110. this

  111. is

  112. habits. I haven't changed my

  113. habits. I haven't that I I was going to

  114. church and that was about it. And then

  115. the other thing is that nothing nothing

  116. else really changed in my own walk with

  117. the Lord. I kind of piggybacked on the

  118. walk with the Lord that everybody else

  119. around me at church had and I didn't

  120. really have my own. But the third is the

  121. one that I want to talk about today. The

  122. third this is this is one that I see

  123. happen and it's it's usually the one

  124. that happens to someone who's been

  125. consistent for a while. You've started

  126. to find your groove.

  127. You've started to build those habits.

  128. You've got the right friends and then it

  129. fades

  130. away usually because of what we're

  131. talking about

  132. today. Peaks and

  133. valleys. That's what we're talking about

  134. today. We're talking about the the highs

  135. and the lows of life. And this comes

  136. from Romans 8:38 through39. This is our

    Romans 8:38–39

  137. core passage for this series. And so

  138. this is where we're going to start. You

  139. guys can uh if you guys got your Bible,

  140. you can kind of put a finger in ma

  141. Matthew 26 where we're going to be. But

  142. right now, Romans 8:38 through39. Can we

    Romans 8:38–39

  143. get this up on the screen? He says, "For

  144. I am persuaded that neither death nor

  145. life, nor angels, nor demons, nor things

  146. present, nor things to come, nor powers,

  147. nor heights, nor depth, nor any other

  148. created thing will be able to separate

  149. us from the love that is in of the love

  150. of God that is in Christ Jesus our

  151. Lord."

  152. And these are things that he's

  153. specifically mentioning that are like

  154. intimidating things that we go, "Yeah,

  155. but like God loves me, but do you know

  156. what I did?" And now I suddenly I don't

  157. feel so loved anymore,

  158. right? You like I know he forgives,

  159. but I don't know if he forgives this

  160. many times.

  161. I wouldn't forgive me at this point. So

  162. I don't see why God would forgive

  163. me. And we get these and and this is

  164. where right at verse 39 where it says

  165. nor height nor depth. And this really

  166. what it means a lot of different things.

  167. It's talking about the the things that

  168. are too high, the high places and the

  169. depth, the low low places. And it

  170. usually represents you'll see in the

  171. book of Psalms talking about like I am

  172. I'm in the highest. I'm in the best

  173. greatest place. That's where you carry

  174. me. You're on the wings of eagles,

  175. right? It's this idea of I go up to

  176. these high incredible places. It's these

  177. peaks, these mountaintop moments in life

  178. that we have where it's just like when

  179. it rains, it pours and it's just pouring

  180. goodness, right? It's like it's almost

  181. like everything is working out and I got

  182. the job that I wanted and this new boss,

  183. it's just like it's great. We get each

  184. other. I got this friend. I got this

  185. relationship. Finally, I'm in this like

  186. I'm dating this person and they like,

  187. "Oh, man. We just we love each other."

  188. And things are just working

  189. out, nor height nor

  190. depth. And it's this low hard place of I

  191. I've never been in as difficult of a

  192. season. I know there's some of you, I

  193. don't know all of your stories, but I

  194. know some of your stories. You're in a

  195. season that you may describe as the

  196. hardest in your entire life so

  197. far. In a season that is just brutal. Or

  198. you've been in that season and you're

  199. coming out and you're like, I don't

  200. know. I just want to feel again. I feel

  201. numb.

  202. Maybe that's kind of what Morgan was

  203. speaking about for you of like I there's

  204. so much turmoil inside of me. And it's

  205. this not just this low part. It's not

  206. like I stubbed my toe and so my day is

  207. not going as good. It's like everything

  208. is going wrong and I'm in this deep,

  209. deep

  210. valley, the valley of the shadow of

  211. death where I can barely see the sun,

  212. where I it's shadow everywhere and I'm

  213. in this deep dark

  214. place and in those

  215. moments and some some some books have

  216. described it as the dark night of

  217. soul. It's this place that I can't even

  218. describe. I can't even explain it to

  219. you. I just I feel so lost. I feel so

  220. hopeless. It's the highest of high

  221. moments and the lowest of low

  222. moments that actually I would argue is

  223. one of the

  224. greatest tools of the enemy that he uses

  225. to pull people away from him.

  226. Not just the lowest of

  227. lows, but even the highest of

  228. highs. And we see

  229. this in in a couple different people. I

  230. want to highlight three different people

  231. today. I want to highlight Judas, Peter,

  232. and

  233. Paul. Looking through the lens of the

  234. life of Judas, Peter, and Paul. And what

  235. I love to do is I love to place myself

  236. there in the moment in the feet in the

  237. shoes, the sandals of Judas, of Peter

  238. when you're in this, it's called Passion

  239. Week. What it is, it's it's right after

  240. Jesus rides into Jerusalem and they're

  241. throwing down these palm branches and

  242. their cloaks and everybody's shouting,

  243. "Hosana, hosana in the highest, the

  244. Messiah." What does that mean? It means

  245. Lord save us. Our Messiah is here.

  246. Publicly, people are coming out and

  247. saying, "This ain't just a prophet. This

  248. ain't just a good guy. This is the

  249. Messiah." People are recognizing who

  250. Jesus is, that he is the son of God. And

  251. it's not this hidden thing anymore. It's

  252. this big public thing. Up until that

  253. moment, it is the greatest moment. This

  254. is the greatest season, the greatest

  255. week in all of Jesus ministry. Can you

  256. imagine being the disciples in the

  257. height of this moment of like, we've

  258. kind of known this. We've kind of been

  259. feeling this. We've I've I thought for a

  260. little while and then I knew for certain

  261. and now everybody is seeing it. And

  262. guess who's walking right behind him? We

  263. are. Guess who's in his crowd.

  264. Guess who? He has anointed to be able to

  265. go out and heal people. We're getting to

  266. heal people as well. And these disciples

  267. are in this peak on this

  268. mountaintop, the greatest time in their

  269. lives. And what is Jesus doing when he

  270. rides into Jerusalem? He's coming in and

  271. they're like, "We're about to take

  272. over. We're about This is the riding of

  273. the king, the new king into this

  274. territory. He's going to take over.

  275. We're going to be sitting on these

  276. thrones with him. We're going to have

  277. all the glory. This is so good. They

  278. have no clue what's about to

  279. come. But they're on this

  280. peak. And so, how do they handle how do

  281. you handle the peaks, the mountaintops

  282. in your

  283. life? If you look at the story of

  284. Israel, if you look at the Old Testament

  285. and you go through this cycle and you

  286. see that they're in this cycle and then

  287. you you go through first and 2 Kings,

  288. first and second Chronicles and you go

  289. through these histories and then the

  290. prophets and you go through this whole

  291. story of Israel and it's like I feel

  292. like I've read this before. Wait, hold

  293. on. Didn't I just read this a couple

  294. chapters ago? And because again and

  295. again and again, what do you have? You

  296. have this moment where you get this king

  297. that comes in and the king it says is

  298. the worst king that has ever been a king

  299. of Israel and they lead him into worship

  300. of idols and they lead him into all

  301. these dark places and they and and and

  302. it's all this all this good stuff that

  303. was going on and then they lead into

  304. this dark disparity and guess what the

  305. favor of the Lord lifts. Things start

  306. becoming terrible and horrible and guess

  307. what? They get down in this dump, this

  308. valley, and they go, "Oh, God, we need

  309. you." And a prophet comes in and says,

  310. "Turn now. Turn towards the Lord, and he

  311. will forgive you." And guess what they

  312. do? They turn from the Lord. And guess

  313. what he does? He forgives them. And

  314. guess what happens? Things start going a

  315. little bit

  316. better. And they get to this peak moment

  317. again and they're like, "Oh my goodness,

  318. this is great." They start thriving. And

  319. what happens? You get this from the

  320. start of Solomon is when this starts.

  321. and he get he's the kingdom is so

  322. wealthy. It's one of the wealthiest

  323. kingdoms that's ever existed in all of

  324. history. And it's just it's incredible.

  325. And so what does he do? He's just how do

  326. you how do you show your wealth? How do

  327. you show your power at that time as a

  328. king? You marry as many women as you can

  329. afford. And so he marries hundreds of

  330. women and they're all and they lead him

  331. and they entice him in this false

  332. idolatry and and it and it falls and

  333. then it's it's just this cycle again and

  334. again and again and they come and they

  335. repent. They come back to the Lord and

  336. at the high point when things are going

  337. great, they

  338. go, you know, I think we got it from

  339. here, God. Don't you

  340. worry. I'll take it from

  341. here. Because I don't know like if you

  342. remember those

  343. battles, we fought those

  344. battles. And they forget, right? We

  345. forget these moments when God won the

  346. victory for us.

  347. So I don't know exactly what was going

  348. on in Judas's

  349. heart. What moves from this place of

  350. Judas being close to

  351. Jesus and then become at this this then

  352. selling his master for the price of a

  353. slave. And he goes to these religious

  354. leaders and he says, "Hey, you tell

  355. me. I'll get you I'll I'll get you in

  356. contact with Jesus. I'll get you up in

  357. close with Jesus.

  358. Give me 30 pieces of silver and I'm

  359. good. I'm good. I'm

  360. bought. What

  361. happened? We don't all we we don't know

  362. the the Bible doesn't tell us explicitly

  363. and super clearly. But I I will tell you

  364. the little bit that we know about Judas

  365. is that he was the moneybag

  366. handler for for Jesus men. But when

  367. people Jesus didn't ask anybody to pay

  368. anything but guess what when people

  369. would experience the encounter they some

  370. people would go what can we do how can I

  371. give let me give and Judas was the one

  372. in charge of the money and he was known

  373. scripture says he was known for just

  374. skimming a little bit off the top for

  375. himself right like I mean I'm doing I'm

  376. doing a lot of work

  377. here right like that person that gave I

  378. I was part of praying for them They were

  379. healed when I prayed, right? Like I led

  380. them over to Jesus when I couldn't

  381. handle it. I let them over and that and

  382. they're like, "Oh my gosh, thank you so

  383. much." And and you know what? Listen, I

  384. just just think about Judas here, right?

  385. And it's like, listen, I this Jesus,

  386. he's great. This Jesus, he is great.

  387. He's a little bit

  388. innocent, a little bit

  389. naive. I don't think he realizes how

  390. profitable this thing could be.

  391. I don't think he realizes like he

  392. changes people's lives.

  393. Great. Oh, I think they'd give

  394. everything. I don't think he I think we

  395. can really benefit from this. We're on

  396. this mountaintop. Do you know what I've

  397. seen? I've seen people try to make Jesus

  398. be king when he wasn't king. And he just

  399. walks through this crowd. He just walks

  400. right through. He escapes.

  401. I've seen people come against him with

  402. the greatest arguments and he gets out

  403. of it. We don't even know how. And guess

  404. what he said? He wants to walk into

  405. Jerusalem. He said, and so he keeps

  406. escaping these things. I think this is

  407. the moment. This he's going to be

  408. unstoppable and I think I can make me

  409. some 30 pieces of silver on top of this

  410. because I mean he's Jesus. So I think

  411. he's going to be just fine.

  412. So, I'm

  413. gonna skim a little off the

  414. top because it doesn't matter who comes

  415. against him. He'll I that's what that's

  416. what I I' I've read most scholars think

  417. he probably thought Jesus would just get

  418. out of

  419. it. And that's why he carried so much

  420. guilt and shame after to commit

  421. suicide. And he he steps into but when

  422. when he sees Jesus get arrested, he

  423. throws the money back and he doesn't

  424. want it. and he's like, "This is this is

  425. not good. This was not the plan I

  426. thought I

  427. had." But he had been

  428. deceived. So, the problem with peaks is

  429. when we get to the top, we love Here's a

  430. couple different things. Write this

  431. down. The problem with

  432. peaks, we love to get credit. When I get

  433. to the mountain top, when I'm in the

  434. valley and I'm going, "God, I need you.

  435. I can't make this next payment. I don't

  436. know how I'll ever pay my electricity

  437. bill. I don't know how my rent payment

  438. will come in. I don't know how I'm ever

  439. going to get this, Lord. I'm so lonely.

  440. Would you just send me someone? God, I'm

  441. just so broken. Would you send people

  442. around me to be able to help me out? And

  443. then I get it to the mountain and I'm

  444. like, don't

  445. you did everybody see how well I saved

  446. that money? Do you see how well I

  447. stewarded that job? Do you see how well

  448. I got in that interview and I just

  449. killed it? Do you see how I wooed that

  450. girl? Do you see how I got that man? Do

  451. you see how I didn't like look at this?

  452. Did you see how I got myself up to this

  453. peak? And we love to get credit for this

  454. thing that we begged God for. The

  455. blessing that he gives. He places us up

  456. there and then we

  457. go, "Hey man, thanks. I got it from

  458. here." I think that was mostly me anyway

  459. because who was the one who fought those

  460. battles? I was the one on the

  461. battlefield, right? I was the one who

  462. did that. I was the one who had the

  463. conversations. I was the one who fought

  464. for it. I was the one who said no to to

  465. to the luxuries so that I could get I

  466. could get my debt paid off. I was I was

  467. the one who did it. And I love to get

  468. credit. The problems with peaks is we

  469. get credit. The second part is we get

  470. complacent. We just get we get in this

  471. place where we start to get a little bit

  472. lazy.

  473. we start to like I got here I like I

  474. worked my butt off and it was great and

  475. I was chasing the Lord and now my time

  476. with the Lord it's just not as I don't

  477. know you know it's just it's okay it's

  478. okay I still I'll still read I I get I

  479. get some of my days in I still get some

  480. of my prayer time in I still like I'm

  481. still going to group I've missed it a

  482. couple times I still go to church like

  483. I'm still doing this stuff I'm still I'm

  484. I'm but I'm not as my heart's not in it,

  485. right? You can come here and you can

  486. walk out and you can be totally

  487. unchanged. You harden your heart,

  488. nothing, nothing can press through a

  489. hard heart. If I say I'm not going to

  490. get anything, I'm not going to get

  491. anything. I get complacent. The third

  492. thing that the third problem with peaks

  493. is we get

  494. comfortable. This is one of the greatest

  495. problems with living in America.

  496. I've heard of nations that will send

  497. because the the these the schools and

  498. the universities and the seminaries here

  499. will give great Bible training and that

  500. these nations would raise money. These

  501. people would raise money and they got

  502. this pastor who's got all this potential

  503. and they say, "Hey, you go to America,

  504. you get schooling, you come back and

  505. you're going to bring you're we're going

  506. to see so many churches planted through

  507. you. You're going to get the education

  508. that you needed." And they've stopped

  509. doing it because they go they don't come

  510. back. They get so

  511. comfortable. They get all the benefits.

  512. They get the cozy

  513. seats. They get, you know, how many how

  514. many restaurants are within walking

  515. distance? And you know what? I've met a

  516. couple people here who need Jesus as

  517. well and they don't they never come

  518. back. They've stopped sending

  519. them because the the God of comfort is

  520. so enticing. And he it's just oh, it's

  521. just nice. Listen, I'd rather find the

  522. most comfortable decision than to find

  523. the most righteous

  524. decision. And when I choose comfort over

  525. righteousness, when I choose comfort,

  526. when I find that I'm looking for the

  527. easiest, which church is closest to my

  528. house, which which what things can just

  529. get me by, right? Like, oh, this reading

  530. plan is like one verse a day. I can get

  531. through that. That's okay. And then I

  532. can check that box. I can do my thing.

  533. That's easy enough for me. I can get

  534. comfortable.

  535. Well, the peaks, the comfortability of

  536. the peaks will kill

  537. you. And you'll find yourself pretty

  538. soon going, "I'm still doing all this

  539. stuff. I'm still going to church. I'm

  540. still Why do I feel hollow inside

  541. again? What's going

  542. on? I feel like I'm doing my end of the

  543. deal,

  544. God." And

  545. it's But here's the other problem. Then

  546. we got we got Judas there. Now we got

  547. Peter. So Peter's still in this moment

  548. in uh Matthew 26. Matthew

    Matthew 26:14–16

  549. 26:14-16, Jesus calls out

  550. Judas. He calls out Jesus and he says,

  551. "You're going to betray

  552. me." And Judas, one of the 12, went to

  553. the chief priest and asked, "What are

  554. you willing to give me if I deliver him

  555. over to you?" So they counted out 30

  556. pieces of silver, the price of a slave.

  557. From then on, Judas watched for an

  558. opportunity to hand him over. Same room.

  559. In the same room Judas left this room to

  560. go have this conversation with the

  561. priests. In the same room that Judas was

  562. in, Jesus has this conversation. A few

  563. verses later, verse

  564. 31, Jesus told him, "This very night,

  565. you all will fall away on account of me.

  566. For it is written, I'll strike the

  567. shepherd, the leader, Jesus, and the

  568. sheep of the flock will be scattered.

  569. All the disciples will

  570. leave. But after I have

  571. risen, I will go ahead of you into

  572. Galilee. And this is what Peter says.

  573. Peter

  574. replied, "Look at me, Jesus. If all fall

  575. away, I will

  576. never. I never will. Truly, I tell you,

  577. Jesus says, I promise you

  578. this. This very night, before the

  579. rooster crows, before the sun comes up,

  580. you're going to disown me three times.

  581. Not just once, three times. But Peter

  582. declared, "Even if I have to die with

  583. you, I will never disown you. And all

  584. the other disciples said the same. I'm

  585. on the

  586. peak. Everybody's worshiping and

  587. celebrating who you are. We're now in

  588. this they're having this Passover

  589. dinner. Jesus says, "I'm instituting a

  590. new covenant. This is like an incredible

  591. moment." And it's just them in this

  592. special room and they're having they're

  593. getting to pray with Jesus. They're

  594. getting to talk with Jesus. And it's

  595. this amazing like it's happening. Can

  596. you guys all believe it's happening?

  597. And I just imagine being Peter and it

  598. says that Jesus would tell them plainly

  599. they're going to kill me and I'm going

  600. to rise again in three

  601. days. But the disciples were confused,

  602. right? Like talking amongst themselves.

  603. So I don't know what that means because

  604. he talks like spiritually a lot, right?

  605. Like find the treasure in the hidden

  606. field and and that that's what the

  607. kingdom of heaven is like, right? Like

  608. it's it's all he's got these he's got

  609. these parables, right? and find the lost

  610. pearl, right? Like all this stuff. Okay,

  611. cool. I don't know what this one means.

  612. We're going to find out what it means,

  613. right? When he gives the parable of

  614. planting the seed, he doesn't actually

  615. want us to go buy some seed and plant

  616. the seed. He has other plans. So, I

  617. don't know what this one means, but it's

  618. something else. And Jesus just said it

  619. so

  620. plainly. And they're on this peak having

  621. no clue this cliff's edge they're about

  622. to walk

  623. over. They go into the garden.

  624. Jesus is praying and begging

  625. God. Judas comes up, kisses him on the

  626. cheek, betrays him. Jesus gets arrested.

  627. The disciples scatter. And

  628. Peter

  629. following at a distance denies him one,

  630. two, three times just as Jesus said.

  631. Right after the third

  632. one, morning was about to hit. The

  633. rooster

  634. crows. Oh

  635. no, I did

  636. it. See, the problem is Peter didn't

  637. handle his peak right. So when he got to

  638. the

  639. valley, he

  640. scattered. What happens in the valley?

  641. The problem with valleys is we want to

  642. run from God. Go, God, where are you?

  643. We made this deal. I follow you. You

  644. make my life

  645. easy. We don't actually consciously make

  646. that deal, but a lot of times we think

  647. we do, right? Am I alone in that? When

  648. life gets hard and I'm like, I thought

  649. that was outside of the deal,

  650. God. Right? Like sometimes we feel that

  651. way. And he says, that's not the deal.

  652. You follow me regardless of the cost and

  653. it's going to benefit you a lot. You're

  654. going to have lots of benefits, right?

  655. If I'm not getting drunk all the time,

  656. I'm not I'm not going to get a DUI. I'm

  657. not going to get caught up in

  658. relationships in the houses I shouldn't

  659. be in. I'm not going to find myself with

  660. with with mistakes and problems and

  661. scars and issues and burdens and abuses

  662. that that I didn't even like I get I get

  663. escape a lot of things in that. But that

  664. doesn't mean that life with Jesus means

  665. easy

  666. life. And so I I but sometimes I think

  667. it does. And so when the valley hits,

  668. when life smacks you in the face, you

  669. want to run from God or you want to

  670. reject

  671. God, and you turn away from the only one

  672. who's going to be able to walk you out

  673. of the valley, the only one who's going

  674. to be able to give you freedom, the only

  675. one who's going to be able to be

  676. faithful in

  677. this. The only one I can't trust. We can

  678. try to put a little bit of trust in

  679. people, but the only one who's

  680. trustworthy is

  681. God. And this is where we ask these

  682. questions. How can God be good when I've

  683. experienced this level of darkness that

  684. I've had, this level of abuse that I've

  685. experienced, this trauma that I've had?

  686. You don't understand the depth of the

  687. valley that I've walked through, Pastor

  688. Drew. So, you can say what you want to

  689. say, but you don't get it. You're

  690. probably

  691. right. But I know someone who

  692. does. I know someone who hit the

  693. deepest, darkest, hardest valley

  694. ever. To be deeper in the pit than you

  695. will ever have to go. In my lowest

  696. moments, it's been one of the most

  697. comforting things he said to me. Said,

  698. "I've been deeper in this pit than you

  699. are right now, and I'll walk you out of

  700. it.

  701. in these moments when I feel like God is

  702. absent, that's actually the very moment

  703. he's closest. So, we've got Judas, we've

  704. got Peter, Judas that failed in the

  705. peak, Peter that failed in the valley,

  706. and then you have Paul, the Apostle

  707. Paul, who has learned differently. If we

  708. can open up to Philippians 4, verse 11.

    Philippians 4:11

  709. Philippians 4:13 is some people, y'all

    Philippians 4:13

  710. may got this tattooed on your body. This

  711. is a great one. Philippians 4:13. Can we

    Philippians 4:13

  712. pull this one up? I am able to do all

  713. things through him who strengthens me.

  714. Come on. And amen. Right. Yes. Oh, I

  715. love that one. Right. I need to push a

  716. 24 foot box truck up a hill. Let's go.

  717. Jesus got me. I can do this. Right. I

  718. can do all things through Christ who

  719. strengthens me. Oh, we take it out of

  720. context. Here's a key here. Here's the

  721. key. Anytime you're reading your Bible,

  722. you got to read it in

  723. context. Anytime you feel like there's

  724. things that that the word of God seems

  725. to butt heads with itself, read around

  726. it. You're going to find out things that

  727. you didn't find out, you're going to

  728. realize what it means. Because if we

  729. read the context, let's go back two

  730. verses to verse 11. Can we pull up verse

  731. 11? This is the Apostle Paul writing

  732. from prison.

  733. He says, "I have learned to be

  734. content in any circumstances I find

  735. myself in. I know how to make do with

  736. little and I know how to make do with a

  737. lot. In any and all circumstances, I

  738. have learned the secret of being

  739. content. Whether well-fed or hungry,

  740. whether in

  741. abundance or in need, I'm able to do all

  742. things through Christ who strengthens

  743. me. Isn't that radically

  744. different? We think it

  745. means like it's it's this pep talk. And

  746. in reality, it is kind of a pep talk,

  747. but it's like, "Hey, I don't care

  748. whether you're on your peak. I don't

  749. care whether you're in your

  750. valley. There's something that God's

  751. calling you to do right here. Don't let

  752. the peak kill you. Don't let the valley

  753. deceive

  754. you. Chase after

  755. him. So this is this is where this is

  756. the purpose of peaks. Okay? You can

  757. write this down because there's actually

  758. a divine purpose for these high moments,

  759. these incredible purpose that the these

  760. incredible times that we have. Don't

  761. lose your opportunity. If you're like,

  762. "Things are actually going pretty well

  763. for me right

  764. now. Don't lose the

  765. opportunity." The purpose of the peaks

  766. is to not get credit, to give

  767. credit. The purpose of the Peaks is to

  768. go, "Man, I can't believe, God, what

  769. you've done." Can I tell you about a

  770. time that I just experienced this last

  771. summer? It's crazy. My 11-year-old boy

  772. got gifted a boat, a 16 foot boat for

  773. his birthday. It's insane. Yeah. I It

  774. was It was gifted by a family member.

  775. They They're in Fresno and there's It's

  776. been sitting in our driveway for seven

  777. years. If he wants it, you got to come

  778. get it and pick it up. It's just insane.

  779. I could never I never And I tell him I'm

  780. like, "I don't think you understand. You

  781. have no clue how insane this is. Like

  782. crazy." He's like, "I do." I was like,

  783. "You don't. You do not. You do not.

  784. Y'all, I love this thing. We've been

  785. out. We've gone out to the lake. We've

  786. been tubing. We get out on the water.

  787. And guys, I can't explain it to you.

  788. It's this peak moment. It's this is

  789. incredible. And I'm like blown away that

  790. this is an experience that we get to

  791. have. I just Maybe boats aren't your

  792. thing. Maybe you're like, I have no clue

  793. what you're talking about. Like, were

  794. you smelling the moss and the mud and

  795. the dirt of the lake? And I was like,

  796. yes. I love it.

  797. And you're like, you may not get it, but

  798. man, oh, it's just this moment. The sun

  799. starts setting. You see it reflecting

  800. over the water. These birds are flying

  801. over. We're just flying on the top of

  802. the water. It's just incredible. And I

  803. can't help. I get in the car and I go,

  804. "Guys, I can't believe God." Like, this

  805. is from this is a gift. This is

  806. incredible. Can you believe what God has

  807. given this? You don't deserve this.

  808. There's nothing that we we don't got the

  809. money to buy a boat. I don't know how we

  810. got a boat. This is

  811. insane. It's just I'm overwhelmed with

  812. the credit that God deserves and the

  813. gratitude to him. Here's the next thing

  814. I find in on the peaks. You got to give

  815. credit and then you got to give grace.

  816. Because I've had these moments in my

  817. life where I've noticed that's not the

  818. tendency. I start hitting well on these

  819. like after after a season of not being

  820. healthy, not working out great, not

  821. having the right habits, and then I step

  822. into it. Want to know what I caught

  823. myself in? When I first started really

  824. building my habits and working out and

  825. and spending time, deep time with the

  826. Lord, guess what? My spirit looks to the

  827. other people that weren't working out,

  828. that weren't building their habits, that

  829. weren't doing this, and I go,

  830. "Man, wow.

  831. You're just missing it, man. If you had

  832. what I Come on. Wow. I can't believe you

  833. wouldn't do that. And God's like, "That

  834. was you literally a month ago,

  835. bro. Well, I got to shut up, God. I'm

  836. sorry." Right?

  837. Like, I gota I got to learn when I'm on

  838. the peaks. I got to give credit and I

  839. got to give

  840. grace. I got to give grace. I got to

  841. remember where I was. I got to remember

  842. where God's led me from. And then here's

  843. another one. make

  844. bookmarks because when I'm on my peak,

  845. when I'm healthy, I just respond to life

  846. different, right? I got cut off two

  847. weeks ago and I was freaking out and

  848. cussing out of my car about them and now

  849. I'm cut off. Not literally, I'm just

  850. telling a story, right? I don't but but

  851. the idea like and but then now when I do

  852. it, I'm like, "Oh, they're probably

  853. running

  854. late. Oh man, let's just bless them,

  855. right?" I don't know what what the like

  856. when you have these moments when it's

  857. just like I respond easy and things

  858. don't hit as hard anymore. People say

  859. things and that I work they shot that

  860. passive aggressive email over to me and

  861. I'm like okay, right? Like and it just

  862. falls off. It just doesn't stay on. It's

  863. just it's not stuck. I And so what do I

  864. do? I bookmark this. What's my mindset?

  865. What's going on? Well, I just I I

  866. realize God's good and that this thing

  867. this ain't the big deal. So now when I'm

  868. in my valley, I can go back to this

  869. booknark and I can remember, hey, this

  870. feels like a big deal, but I I when I'm

  871. healthy, I remember it's not a big deal.

  872. And now I know kind of where this home

  873. base is and I can bookmark this thing

  874. and I can go, oh, that's how I

  875. responded. And then lastly, when you're

  876. on your peak, do not lose the

  877. opportunity. Build habits.

  878. Build your habits on your

  879. peak. When it's easy to spend time with

  880. God because the work schedule just works

  881. out, because things are just going well,

  882. because you just have energy, you're not

  883. sick, you're feeling healthy, things are

  884. going great. Build the habits because

  885. those are the habits that will sustain

  886. you so that your next valley doesn't

  887. smack you in the teeth quite as hard as

  888. it would have

  889. before. Build your habits.

  890. If the band can come up. Last thing, if

  891. we can stand up here. I God's also got

  892. purpose for our valleys. And I want to

  893. speak to though, go ahead and stand up

  894. in here. I want to speak to those of you

  895. who are in your

  896. valley. There's a couple different

  897. things I want to have us do. If you

  898. still got your notebooks, you can write

  899. this. The purpose of valley is to cling

  900. to

  901. God. Hold tightly. Don't run away from

  902. him. Don't run away from the only person

  903. who's going to save you.

  904. Cling to

  905. him. The only one who can save you.

  906. Second, praise

  907. him. I'll praise you in my valley. You

  908. want to know what he says? Psalm

  909. 23. Yay. Though I walk through the

  910. valley of the shadow of death, I know

  911. you are with me. Your rod and your

  912. staff, they comfort me. You prepare a

  913. table before me in the presence of my

  914. enemies.

  915. He doesn't say, "You got me out of the

  916. valley. You removed all the bad guys

  917. around me." He says, "I've learned to

  918. see the

  919. banquet that you have for me in this

  920. deep place. Even though I'm still

  921. surrounded by my enemies, even though

  922. I'm still in the valley of the shadow of

  923. death, I've learned to see the provision

  924. that you've given to

  925. me." Do not lose. Do not miss the

  926. opportunity in this hard place to give a

  927. sacrifice of praise to God. If you're

  928. not in a valley right

  929. now, promise yourself right now, I'm

  930. going to praise my way every day through

  931. a valley because a valley is going to

  932. come. It's inevitable. We're going to

  933. have hard times. We're going to have

  934. hard seasons. And the next valley that

  935. you have is going to determine whether

  936. you find yourself at the end of that

  937. valley still in the presence of God or

  938. going, "What happened?

  939. Where? Where did I go

  940. wrong? If I'm not handling my peak

  941. right, I won't be able to sustain the

  942. valley. The purpose of your valley is to

  943. strengthen your

  944. faith. If I want to get

  945. strong, there's a common denominator in

  946. every exercise. Every single one. If you

  947. want to get fit, if you want to get in

  948. shape, there's one common denominator

  949. that's absolutely essential. Resistance.

  950. Resistance builds

  951. strength. Sometimes God places

  952. resistance in our lives to strengthen

  953. us. The resistance isn't a bad thing.

  954. The valley is not a bad thing. Maybe he

  955. wants to strengthen your faith. And then

  956. lastly, here's the fourth one. Cling to

  957. God. Praise God. Strengthen your faith.

  958. And the fourth purpose of the valley is

  959. to grow your spirit.

  960. I don't know if you've ever been on a

  961. mountain

  962. top. I'm not talking Mount Crescent.

  963. That don't

  964. count. A

  965. mountaintop past the tree line. You get

  966. up to the top of these mountains and

  967. there's it's just dirt and

  968. rocks and clouds underneath you. It's

  969. the most it's it's

  970. insane. But I'll tell you what I don't

  971. see. I don't see any grass. I don't see

  972. trees. I don't see shrubs. I don't see

  973. anything. Because you want to know where

  974. things grow? Things grow in the

  975. valleys. I love the

  976. peaks, but I don't grow on the peaks.

  977. Things grow in the

  978. valleys. I want to encourage encourage

  979. us

  980. here to take on the promise of God.

  981. Romans 8:28.

    Romans 8:28

  982. There's a couple chapters before where

  983. where we were reading. We got Romans

    Romans 8:20

  984. 8:20. Can we pull that up? Says, "We

  985. know all things all things work together

  986. for the

  987. good of everybody ever."

  988. Nope. For the good of those who go to

  989. church.

  990. No. for the good of those who love God

  991. and are called according to his

  992. purpose. I can't guarantee you that your

  993. peak is going to be great or how long

  994. it's going to last. I can't guarantee

  995. you about your valley. I can't guarantee

  996. you that your valley and your hard

  997. season is going to be a benefit to you.

  998. I want to tell

  999. you God can strengthen you in this. But

1000. the defining characteristic is how hard

1001. I cling to him. how how much I lean into

1002. him in these hard times. So, I want to

1003. invite us here. I want to invite us to

1004. make a decision. If you're on a peak in

1005. your life and it's great, if you're in a

1006. valley and you go, I've never

1007. experienced a darker season in my life.

1008. Or maybe you're like, I'm just kind of

1009. there. I got some good things. I got

1010. some bad things. I got I'm kind of in

  1011. the middle somewhere

1012. there. Make a commitment right now. God,

1013. I'm going to trust you. God, I'm gonna

1014. love you. God, I don't care how good it

1015. gets or how bad it gets. I will never

  1016. leave your

1017. side. Can we say that? Is that just me?

1018. Do we got faith for that in the room?

1019. Come on. I want us to declare it. We're

1020. going to sing this song again. We're

1021. going to sing this song. Lord, lead me

1022. where my trust of you is without

  1023. borders.

  1024. There's no peak that's too high that'll

1025. cause me to abandon my father. There's

1026. no valley that's too low that'll cause

1027. me to run away from my savior. I promise

1028. God if I got nothing else, I will just

1029. keep showing up. I'll just keep coming

1030. back. Even when my love is weak, even

1031. when my faith is weak, I'm going to give

1032. you all of the 2% that I have. I got

1033. nothing to give, but I'm going to give

1034. it all to you. And I make that promise.

1035. Can we pray that? Can we close our eyes?

  1036. I want

1037. us I want us to sing this song with a

1038. depth in our soul of a promise to God, a

1039. commitment to him that no matter the

1040. heights nor heights nor depth, it's not

1041. going to stop his love, but I can reject

1042. his love. I will not allow for the peaks

1043. and the valleys of life to cause for me

1044. to reject the love of God.

  1045. Amen.

  1046. Come on.

1047. This ain't just notes. These aren't just

1048. words. This is to the Lord. This is to

  1049. the Lord.

1050. It's the strengthening in the valleys.

  1051. Come on.

1052. Spirit lead me where my trust is

  1053. without you.

  1054. Wherever, wherever.

1055. Find the strength. Find the growth. Find

1056. the praise within you. Come on. Come on.

1057. He's worthy of it. He's worthy of more

1058. praise than we're giving him right now.

1059. God, we give it to you. Wherever you

  1060. would call me,

1061. take me deeper than my feet could ever

1062. walk and my faith will be made stronger

1063. in the presence of my

1064. savior. His presence is right here. If

1065. you're in the valley, he says, "That's

1066. where I'm nearest to the

1067. brokenhearted." If you're on the

1068. mountaintop, this is your time to praise

1069. him for where he's got you.

  1070. Thank you, Father.

1071. So I will call upon your name

1072. and keep my eyes above your

  1073. wrest I am

1074. yours and you are mine.

1075. No matter the season. That's my promise,

1076. God. That's our promise, God.

1077. Come on. I want to take a second here.

  1078. There's a verse in the Bible that's

1079. never actually, it's not a verse in the

1080. Bible, but we quote it as if it's

1081. scripture. God will never give you

1082. something that's too big for you to

  1083. handle.

  1084. He will. He

1085. does. He often loves to when we need it.

1086. But I'll tell you what, this isn't

1087. scripture. A cord of three strands is

  1088. not quickly

1089. broken. When I'm with him, when I'm

  1090. tightly connected to

1091. him, and when I'm with my brothers and

1092. sisters in Christ, and I got arms linked

1093. around beside, the valley may be too

  1094. deep for me.

1095. The peak may be too high for

1096. me, but I got brothers and sisters

1097. around me that can walk me through it,

1098. that can keep me faithful, that can give

  1099. me

1100. reminders. So, what I want to do is I I

1101. want whether you are in a peak or in a

  1102. valley

1103. season. Can you put your hand up? We

1104. need to take them both seriously. Do not

1105. be deceived by the peak. Put your hand

1106. up. And I want for those of you around,

1107. can we just place a hand on the shoulder

1108. of those around us? If someone's got a

1109. hand up, you can if you got a hand up,

1110. you can place a shoulder on someone

1111. beside you. Hand on the shoulder of

1112. someone beside you as well. But come on,

1113. let's get let's get a hand on each other

1114. so that we can go, hey, I'm going to

1115. walk you through. I'm going to lift you

1116. up. I'm going to encourage you in this.

1117. When you go, I don't even know if I

1118. believe this whole good God thing

1119. anymore. I hear it. I get it. My heart's

1120. not there. Father God, I pray right now

1121. for those who are on a peak. That we

1122. would not be deceived by the goodness,

1123. thinking that it is all because of us.

1124. That we would not find ourselves

1125. complacent, would not give into the

1126. comfort, but would drive on, would use

1127. this moment to propel the gospel forward

1128. because nothing's holding us back right

1129. now. God, I pray for those who are in a

1130. valley. I pray for those who feel like

1131. they can't give anything else. Lord, in

1132. the name of Jesus, God, I pray that

1133. there God, that there would be life,

1134. there would be strength, that they would

1135. see that there is a banquet. There is a

1136. table of food already set up for them

1137. exactly where they are. They do not have

1138. to be alone. They because they are not

1139. alone. I pray that we would invite

1140. people into our pain. I pray we would

1141. invite people into our victories. And

1142. God, I pray that together, together,

  1143. Father

1144. God, that we will sustain and we will

1145. give praise in every single season. In

1146. the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. Come

1147. on, can we give a hand for the word of

1148. the Lord? Come on, praise God. Praise

  1149. God.

1150. Hey, thanks so much for watching today's

1151. message. Our prayer is more than the

1152. words that were spoken in the message

1155. matter what it was that God spoke to

1156. you, I know that part of your journey is

1157. other people being in a community
