  1. Amen. Come on. Can we give a

  2. hand for the band, for the Lord, for

  3. what he's doing, guys? It is Memorial

  4. Day weekend. Isn't that incredible? I

  5. don't know about you guys, it's like,

  6. man, that snuck up. That came up so

  7. quick. I thought it was March and uh

  8. it's almost

  9. June. We are uh and and I want to I want

  10. to take there's a couple different

  11. things that this means. This means that

  12. number one uh we had last week we just

  13. celebrated our new life Sunday. We saw

  14. 12 children dedicated and 17 people get

  15. commit and declare their commitment to

  16. the Lord through baptism. Just

  17. incredible. Just absolutely incredible.

  18. I uh we were on just a high all week

  19. long getting to celebrate all the things

  20. that God has been doing and uh how

  21. baptisms declare the the

  22. stories that I don't know necessarily

  23. everybody's story and exactly what it

  24. looks like. Right? Sometimes you may

  25. have a moment where you go this is the

  26. Sunday that I decided that I'm going to

  27. follow Jesus. And sometimes it's like I

  28. it was sometime between March and June

  29. that I just I just knew it right. And so

  30. the baptism is the moment between all

  31. those things that we get to celebrate

  32. and things that are like I think we're

  33. getting it that we get to celebrate

  34. these transformations and uh and and I I

  35. want to make sure that we do that and

  36. that we celebrate this together. Uh but

  37. then it also means that next

  38. weekend we're not here. We are at

  39. Millard North Middle School. And so

  40. we're going to be moving for June and

  41. July. All the Sundays in June and July,

  42. we're going to be at Millard North

  43. Middle School. And next week, we got a

  44. location launch. We're going to have a

  45. bunch of fun stuff right after service.

  46. So, it's a perfect opportunity to invite

  47. friends. There's going to be a lot of

  48. guests there, so it's like, hey, you

  49. aren't going to be the only new person.

  50. It's going to be the perfect opportunity

  51. to invite families, kids. We got fun

  52. stuff that we're going to be planning.

  53. And uh it's it's great to be able to

  54. whenever you switch things up, let's use

  55. it as a win for the kingdom. Amen. And

  56. so that's what we're going to do next

  57. week. Uh so you can show up here, but

  58. then you got a short drive down to 144th

  59. in center, about 140th and center, and

  60. you'll see us right there. Uh but this

  61. weekend is Memorial Day weekend, and

  62. honor is a principle that we want to

  63. make sure that we operate by here at

  64. Collective. and I want to make sure that

  65. we honor those in this room. So, I got a

  66. couple different I got three different

  67. uh groups that I want to honor in here.

  68. First of all, I do want to honor I know

  69. it's not necessarily the the specific

  70. theme of Memorial Day, but I want to

  71. honor anyone who is serving or has

  72. served active duty or veterans. Can you

  73. stand up in the room real quick? Can we

  74. just I want to honor Thank you guys.

  75. Come on. Come

  76. on. Come on. Thank

  77. you. And then I wanna I I want to stay

  78. standing. But what I want to do is I

  79. want to if if you are in this room and

  80. you have lost a loved one, could be a

  81. family member, could be a friend, could

  82. be something. If you've lost a loved one

  83. uh or and and that's what you are

  84. commemorating and you are celebrating

  85. this memorial day and going I am

  86. remembering though the loved ones that I

  87. have lost. Would you stand up now as

  88. well and put your put a hand up as well?

  89. Put a little hand up. Thank you so that

  90. we can see. Come on. Can we give a thank

  91. you? I want to honor you guys. I thank

  92. you for standing in the gap.

  93. And then one of the things that I have

  94. stay standing, you can have your hands

  95. down. But what I want to do here is one

  96. of the things that I have been most

  97. marked by this last

  98. year

  99. specifically is not only those who have

  100. been lost so that we may operate in

  101. freedom so that we may be here right

  102. now. So that all the simple things that

  103. we take advantage of and take for

  104. granted every single day are afforded to

  105. us. Not only those who have been lost,

  106. but that which has been lost. For those

  107. of you who have served, for those of you

  108. who are family members of those who have

  109. served as well, have have lost time with

  110. family. Oftentimes, mental health,

  111. there's new struggles, whether it's PTSD

  112. or whatever it may be. There's there's

  113. things that have been

  114. lost. And if and and if you go, man,

  115. from serving, there's no greater love

  116. than to lay one's life down for a

  117. friend. And to serve is to say, I'm

  118. willing. I'm willing and I make that

  119. commitment.

  120. And that's where we see this incredible

  121. love that there's no one loves that who

  122. who loves their nation quite like

  123. someone who has signed up to say I would

  124. I'll give my life if it comes down to

  125. it. And uh and for those of you who may

  126. have said I may not have lost my

  127. life. I may not maybe I haven't lost a

  128. friend. Maybe you have. But for those of

  129. you who

  130. say there has been that which has been

  131. lost, I have whether it's mental

  132. illness, whether it is a family member,

  133. whether it is a friend, whether it is uh

  134. whether it is time with family. If you

  135. go, man, I have it has cost me something

  136. because of myself or a family member

  137. serving in the military. Would you stand

  138. up as well? And I want to commemorate

  139. this as well. Come on. If you for that

  140. which has been lost. Come on. Thank you.

  141. Come on. Anybody else? I know we got

  142. some more. Thank you

  143. guys because it says sacrifice for more.

  144. And I want to declare a blessing. I want

  145. to declare a blessing. Heavenly Father,

  146. I thank you. I thank you God that the

  147. things that cost us the most are the

  148. things that carry the most value. And so

  149. Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus, I

  150. just pray a blessing over every person

  151. here. for those who have lost loved ones

  152. for the sake of freedom. For those who

  153. have given of themselves and have served

  154. or are serving right now. And Lord, for

  155. those who have lost

  156. something, Lord, we offer it not not to

  157. this

  158. nation. We offer it to you. We offer

  159. that which has been lost to you. We say,

  160. "Father God, would you redeem? Would you

  161. restore? Would you, the one who takes

  162. that which the enemy meant for evil and

  163. turns it for good, would you do exactly

  164. that here?" I thank you, God, that these

  165. do not have to be sacrifices that are

  166. made without cause, but they are

  167. sacrifices made for the cause of a

  168. nation and for the cause can be made for

  169. the cause of a kingdom as well. And so,

  170. we give it all to you. We surrender all

  171. of it to you. We release it. We release

  172. unforgiveness. We release bitterness.

  173. God, I pray that there would be a

  174. healing of mental illness in this room.

  175. God, I pray there would be a healing of

  176. PTSD. Lord, I pray a release of those

  177. things in the mighty name of Jesus. I

  178. thank you, Father. In the mighty name of

  179. Jesus, we all prayed. Amen. Come on. Can

  180. we give one more hand? Thank you guys.

  181. You can be seated.

  182. So, summer is officially here and uh and

  183. it doesn't feel like it. I was thinking

  184. we'd be swimming or something this

  185. weekend. We're going to be I'm like

  186. bundling up this weekend. It's a little

  187. bit different, but summer summer is

  188. here. School is out and uh and it is

  189. it's a time now collective this is a

  190. this is a unique time. Collective

  191. church, if you're not on a team, you may

  192. not know this. We operate in seasons and

  193. we kind of treat each season uh

  194. according to the school year usually a

  195. little bit differently in our fall

  196. season, a summer season and a spring a

  197. winter spring season that that we just

  198. operate. We restart groups, we have new

  199. classes and this week we have a new uh

  200. marriage class that is starting. If you

  201. have not signed up for that and your

  202. marriage is not perfect, then you're

  203. missing out. Please jump into that. Uh

  204. we may even have a QR code here for

  205. signing up for that. That's Tuesday

  206. evenings. Uh but there's so we we get

  207. these restarts that we

  208. do. And it's intentionally for being

  209. able to go I want to treat each season

  210. according to what God is doing right

  211. now, not just according to what we are

  212. doing right now. And we're doing summer

  213. a little bit differently. Our schedule

  214. at Collective, our calendar is more is

  215. is more cleared than any other summer

  216. we've had. And I want to do this, we're

  217. doing this intentionally.

  218. We're doing this intentionally because

  219. uh what what I want to do is anytime

  220. that you get out of a groove, I don't

  221. know about you guys, if you ever start

  222. to get into like finally I've got my

  223. Bible reading, I got my prayer. I'm in

  224. this groove. I've got some habits. I'm

  225. working out at the right at the right

  226. pace and the rate that I'm trying to

  227. work out. And then we get vacation. And

  228. then I get time off of work. And then I

  229. got whether it's a trip or whether it's

  230. whatever it may be, then my schedule

  231. just changes and it flips it all on its

  232. head and I got to start

  233. over. I got to start. So what I've what

  234. I've learned is that I got to pre-start

  235. new habits in preparation for those

  236. changes that I know are going to be

  237. coming. And that's what I want us to do.

  238. I want us to treat and operate in these

  239. habits in different ways. And I want us

  240. to treat this season with

  241. intentionality. So this Sunday is going

  242. to be a little bit of vision. It's going

  243. to be a little bit of preaching. It's

  244. going to be a little bit of both. But

  245. what I want for us to do is I want for

  246. us to look at if there is one

  247. thing, one thing that we want to focus

  248. on that you want to focus on this summer

  249. for your personal spiritual growth, what

  250. is it going to be?

  251. What is the thing that you say, man, at

  252. the end of the summer, it's easy to use

  253. summer as a coast. And what happens is

  254. you get in this summer spiritual slump

  255. and you kind of get stuck and you're

  256. like, man, where's that fervor I once

  257. had? So, what what is the thing? And and

  258. and just take a second and go, man, God,

  259. what do you want to grow in me this

  260. summer? And how can I do that? Maybe

  261. maybe I want to find someone. Maybe I'm

  262. not in a group, but I want to talk to my

  263. group host and I want to build a go out

  264. for coffee every week or two and take

  265. some time to just ask questions and grow

  266. in disciplehip. Maybe that's something

  267. that you want to grow in and and we got

  268. a we got a disciplehip form. If you want

  269. to be if you want to find a spiritual

  270. mentor, you can go online and find that

  271. form and go, I I I want to figure out

  272. someone who can help to build me up and

  273. I I don't know how to live this thing

  274. out. Maybe that's it. But what I also

  275. want to do is I want to ask at

  276. Collective Church, what is going to be

  277. our thing that we want to make sure

  278. we're focusing on and we're growing in

  279. specifically this summer. And so that

  280. makes me in in the church world, there's

  281. a lot of different things that you want

  282. to see your church be good at, right?

  283. When you go and you visit church, maybe

  284. this is your first time and you're like,

  285. "Hey, I want to make sure that the word

  286. is being preached. I want to make sure

  287. that this is a place where I can I can

  288. grow. I want to make sure that they're

  289. following the Holy Spirit. These are

  290. good things. I want to make sure that

  291. the people are nice, right? There's a

  292. lot of good thing things that we want to

  293. be good at in church. I want to make

  294. sure the disciplehip is a big thing that

  295. we do. That people have an avenue and

  296. have connection with others to be able

  297. to grow spiritually that we may mutually

  298. encourage each other into closeness and

  299. nearness to Christ. I want to make sure

  300. that we're doing that. I want to make

  301. sure that we have evangelistic efforts

  302. that we are reaching out to those who

  303. are not in this building that need to be

  304. in the family of God, right? We want to

  305. make sure that we are outreaching to our

  306. city and just loving and serving our

  307. city. We want to make sure that we have

  308. our our our fingerprint all over the

  309. world and seeing the lost and those who

  310. have no access to the gospel be able to

  311. get access to the gospel. We want to see

  312. the we want to see all this stuff

  313. happen. We want to help those who are in

  314. need, right? We want to have compassion

  315. things that when storms or tragedies

  316. come and that's why we support Convoy of

  317. Hope who can come in and and help in in

  318. tragedies and moments like we want we

  319. but there's so

  320. much what is the

  321. thing what is the one thing that it all

  322. boils down to that if we if we hit that

  323. on the

  324. head we can as a church go okay I know I

  325. may have missed a lot But I didn't miss

  326. this. What is the one thing we want to

  327. nail down? We'll see

  328. this again and again and again and

  329. again. It's actually repeated in

  330. scripture. We've got a lot of different

  331. passages here. It starts in Deuteronomy

  332. that I want to go through. Deuteronomy 6

    Deuteronomy 6:5

  333. verse 5. We can get these passages

  334. pulled up. Deuteronomy 6:5 says, "Love

    Deuteronomy 6:5

  335. the Lord your God with all your heart,

  336. all your soul, all and all your

  337. strength." Jesus in his ministry in

  338. Matthew chapter 22, he says, "Love the

    Matthew 22 chapter mention

  339. Lord your God with all your heart, soul,

  340. and all your mind." Sound familiar,

  341. right? This is the greatest commandment.

  342. The second is like it. Love your

  343. neighbor as yourself. When he's asked,

  344. "What's the most important

  345. thing? Love God. Love your neighbor."

  346. Verse 40, all the law and the prophets

  347. hang on these two commandments. John 13,

  348. when Jesus is talking with his disciples

  349. the night before he's about to be

  350. betrayed, arrested, crucified, says, "A

  351. new command I give you. I'm updating

  352. this one that I just gave you." Matthew

  353. 22. A new command. Love one another, not

  354. just as you love yourself, but as I have

  355. loved you, so you must love one another.

  356. And then he follows it up with, "By

  357. this, people will know that you are my

  358. disciples. People will know you're a

  359. Christian by how you attend

  360. church."

  361. No. People will know you're a Christian

  362. by how often you

  363. smile. No way. People will know you're a

  364. Christian by that cross necklace that

  365. you wear and the tattoo that you got.

  366. and make sure that you wear the right

  367. brand that that's got of of clothes

  368. that's got a message about Jesus on

  369. it. No, they will know you are my

  370. disciples by how you love. And he keeps

  371. going. Keeps going. Next slide. Here we

  372. go. In everything, do to others what you

  373. would have them do to you. This is the

  374. summary of all the laws, of all the

  375. rules, all the prophets, the messages

  376. that have come from God. That's the

  377. summary. Now, these three things remain.

  378. 1 Corinthians 13, faith, hope, and love.

  379. But the greatest of these is, come on,

  380. whoever does

  381. not does not know God because God

  382. is I'd say, and then Galatians 5 hits on

  383. this real

  384. well. Says, the entire law is fulfilled

  385. in keeping this one command. Love your

  386. neighbor as yourself.

  387. If you don't, if you're not catching the

  388. drift, love isn't just a big deal. Love

  389. is the big

  390. deal. And what I want to do is I want to

  391. ask

  392. uh I want us to ask us a couple

  393. questions

  394. because if we look at how are we graded

  395. based in our in our faith, what is what

  396. does Christ look for in us? First

  397. Corinthians talks about I could do all

  398. these things. I could preach the

  399. greatest sermon of all time, but if I

  400. have not love, I'm just making noise,

  401. right? I could serve in the most

  402. selfless ways, but if I do it without

  403. love, it's pointless. It's endless. It

  404. has no no real power to it. Love is the

  405. big deal.

  406. Jesus says he gives he gives stories

  407. about and parables about uh at at

  408. judgment day and you're meeting Jesus

  409. and he says either I did know you or I

  410. never knew you and it's based on a

  411. couple things you see one first of all

  412. it's based on how you loved others when

  413. you loved these people you were doing

  414. that for me your extravagant love is

  415. what he and even when he say I did not

  416. know you. It's this Greek word gnosco

  417. which means to like intimately

  418. powerfully know that is more relative to

  419. a husband and wife than to just like oh

  420. I know that person. Yeah, we used to we

  421. used to go to the same bank and I'd run

  422. into them every Monday morning, right?

  423. Like no it's it's this I know you. It's

  424. this deep intimate knowing of a person

  425. and that is that's what he's asking for.

  426. It's all rooted in

  427. love. And so if we are

  428. to if if Jesus says this is a big deal

  429. and it all sums up everything, then I

  430. want to ask you guys question number

  431. one is how would you rate yourself on a

  432. scale of one to 10? 10 being the most or

  433. one of the most loving people that I've

  434. ever met. Right? So, reasonably

  435. speaking, right? We're not talking about

  436. Jesus, not perfection. We're all a 02,

  437. right? Or like one like we're just we're

  438. nothing. But but loving and like the one

  439. of the most loving people I've ever met.

  440. That's that's

  441. 10. And you don't have to you don't have

  442. to say it out loud. You don't have to go

  443. 9.9 baby. Right? Like you don't have to

  444. you don't have to do that, right?

  445. Because I would automatically dock you

  446. right

  447. there. But just think about it on a

  448. scale of 1 to 10 of a reasonable like

  449. imperfect person level of love. Like how

  450. well do I do with that? Where would I

  451. put myself on that

  452. scale? And now number

  453. two, where would the people that you see

  454. every week put you on that

  455. scale. Watch out because things get

  456. real. Usually for the majority of us,

  457. it's like I'm six, seven, eight. I'm

  458. pretty I'm pretty loving, right? I'm

  459. pretty dang good. How about the people

  460. around

  461. me? That coworker I got probably

  462. wouldn't say too much about how well I I

  463. mean, I'd probably be Are the negatives

  464. allowed? Like

  465. Where would you That's really love is an

  466. expression. The thing about love that we

  467. that we often miss is love the Lord your

  468. God with your heart, soul, mind,

  469. strength. And a lot of times in our

  470. world, we love to summarize it just as

  471. as with all of our heart. Do I feel an

  472. emotion, a positive emotion towards that

  473. person, towards that situation, towards

  474. that thing? or do I express and give

  475. love sacrificially? That's what love

  476. looks

  477. like. Love is an expression. So my grade

  478. on one to 10, if I was to grade that is

  479. actually, it's not my first number, it's

  480. my second number that's actually more

  481. real. how the co-workers that I have,

  482. how my neighbors would grade me, how my

  483. how how my associates, how my uh the the

  484. people at the the coffee shop I go to,

  485. how my fellow uh uh athletes at the gym

  486. that I go to, how the the people in my

  487. extracurriculars, the people that I run

  488. into, my old friends, where would they

  489. rate

  490. me on a scale of 1 to 10? intend being

  491. the most loving people, one of the most

  492. loving people they've ever

  493. met. And what I want to do is is if we

  494. look at if we look at who collective is

  495. and who do we want to be and what do we

  496. want to focus on this summer? This is

  497. what I want it to be. I want us to focus

  498. on this summer loving more

  499. extravagantly than we ever

  500. have to every person that we see. But

  501. I'll I'll talk more specifically about

  502. how we're going to do that. See, I

  503. believe that a church is most defined by

  504. how it loves a person in the same way

  505. that a person is judged by how we love

  506. our love of the father and therefore our

  507. love of

  508. others. Right? That is that that's the

  509. expression. So when when we look at

  510. this, it's the same all the laws and the

  511. prophets. Can we pull up Galatians 5?

  512. Again, all the laws and the prophets are

  513. summarized keeping this one command.

  514. Love your neighbor as yourself. Now,

  515. this was not in Galatians 5. This was

  516. this was not a new thing of like,

  517. whoa, that's it. That's the summary of

  518. it all, right? Like, if you if you were

  519. paying attention, this has been stated

  520. for thousands of years since

  521. Deuteronomy. One of the first laws that

  522. is given, the greatest law that is given

  523. is love God. Leviticus then gets into

  524. love others as yourself. Jesus updates

  525. this. He's highlighted this. But then

  526. there's a really good question. And we

  527. hit on this about four weeks ago or five

  528. weeks ago I think it was in our series

  529. Love into the Light when a a

  530. a religious leader walks up to Jesus in

  531. Luke chapter 10 and he

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  532. says, "What does that

  533. mean? What does it actually mean?" And

  534. we walked through this passage a little

  535. bit and and I want to I want to look at

  536. not just what it means like what it

  537. looks like but I want to look at how it

  538. looks

  539. specifically and how it's done. And so

  540. Jesus gives this this story and he says

  541. uh where is it? Love the Lord your God.

  542. Keep going. Verse 30. Here we go. A man

  543. was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho

  544. and we see attacks by robbers. They

  545. stripped him of his clothes, beat him

  546. and went away, leaving him half dead. A

  547. priest happened to be going down the

  548. same road. And when he saw the man, he

  549. passed by on the other side. A priest,

  550. he's got work to do.

  551. So to a Levite, a servant, a volunteer,

  552. someone who is on a team at a church, a

  553. Levite when he came to the place and saw

  554. him passed by on the other side. But a

  555. Samaritan as he traveled came to where

  556. the man was. When he saw him, he took

  557. pity on him. Verse 34, and it says he

  558. went and bandaged his wounds. pouring on

  559. oil and wine. He put on the man on his

  560. own donkey, brought him to an inn, took

  561. care of him. The next day, took out two

  562. daenery, gave them to the inkeeper, look

  563. after him. He pays for all of this. And

  564. then he says, "Which of these three do

  565. you

  566. think was the neighbor to the man who

  567. fell into the hand of robbers?" Well,

  568. the one who had mercy on him. They

  569. didn't even want to say the Samaritan.

  570. They hate

  571. Samaritans. And he says, "Go and do

  572. likewise. go and do likewise. So, we we

  573. hit on this, but I want to highlight

  574. something that that we get from this

  575. passage and that I see through the life

  576. of

  577. Jesus that I think one of the things

  578. he's trying to say is not just be

  579. compassionate, but for us to live at the

  580. pace of

  581. love. We need to live our lives at the

  582. pace of love. And this is why I for us.

  583. This is why we've paired back on the

  584. calendar for the summer because it's a

  585. unique

  586. opportunity that I don't know about you

  587. guys in the

  588. wintertime I look at the we live on a

  589. circle and I look at the houses around

  590. me and I'm like if I didn't see their

  591. car move in and out of their driveway I

  592. wouldn't I wouldn't even be sure if they

  593. were still alive. Right? winter time,

  594. we're just like, unless I'm shoveling

  595. the driveway, I don't see my neighbors.

  596. I don't see the people around me. It's

  597. just there's we we kind of got be stuck

  598. inside a little bit. Summertime, it's

  599. totally

  600. different. In summertime, we get

  601. opportunities, but what do we love to

  602. do? We love to fill our calendar. We

  603. love to still do all these. And usually,

  604. it's very good stuff. I don't know what

  605. it doesn't say. Jesus doesn't say in his

  606. story what the priest was going to do,

  607. what the Levite was going to do, but he

  608. does say that he was heading down the

  609. road. It's a typical road. There would

  610. be it'd be common for people to be going

  611. down. The priest was probably serving

  612. down in Jericho in order to uh like like

  613. if the king's going down there and then

  614. they got sacrifices. Long story short,

  615. but but he probably had a job that he

  616. was going to go do. probably had a real

  617. good reason to make sure he keeps going

  618. on his

  619. way. But I'm I'm

  620. amazed about how love has a

  621. pace. Love

  622. has a pace, a

  623. speed. It has a a literal way that you

  624. carry

  625. yourselves, that I walk, that I operate

  626. in

  627. life. That's

  628. different. I can pace myself and I can

  629. pace my life at the pace of love or I

  630. can pay it pace it at my

  631. speed. As I'm coming to you with some

  632. serious conviction, the Lord has spoken

  633. this to me uh for the last few weeks

  634. when when as I'm prepping for this and

  635. I'm like, man, I'm not good at this,

  636. God.

  637. I'm like, I got crap to do. I gotta

  638. focus on this. I got to make sure that

  639. I'm moving. And uh I got I got coffee

  640. shops I love to go to. I got places that

  641. I love to go and I love to be. And I'm

  642. like, man, people just aren't as

  643. talkative as they used to, right? Like I

  644. was trying like I I I I think I try and

  645. I just it's hard to make eye contact

  646. with people. It's hard to get

  647. conversation started. And I realized

  648. that love has a pace and it's slower

  649. than I

  650. am. It's slower than I'm

  651. moving. Why? Because I'd walk in, I'd

  652. grab my coffee, I'd like kind of look

  653. around any. No, no one wants to talk to

  654. me right now. So, I'm going to find my

  655. way to my seat, right? Like no one's

  656. stopping me saying, "Hey, you let's talk

  657. about Jesus." Right? No one's done that

  658. to me. I don't know about you, but I

  659. would love

  660. that. It never

  661. happens. And so for for me when I'm when

  662. when I'm going I realized I think some

  663. of the problem is I got this I got this

  664. stride that's like four feet long and

  665. I'm going in and I'm like where's my

  666. coffee cup? Here we go. Where's my seat?

  667. Not that one. Not There we go. I found

  668. my seat. Here we go. I found it. Man,

  669. people are just quiet today.

  670. In the last few weeks, I've

  671. intentionally gone, I'm going to take

  672. two to three minutes at

  673. least to get my coffee, to take my time

  674. to not just walk up to the counter and

  675. grab it, but kind of walk up

  676. and hey, how you doing? Right? Like just

  677. a couple seconds just to if they look at

  678. Did I miss something? Are they looking

  679. for something? And I just wanna I just

  680. want to go

  681. slowly because love has a pace and it's

  682. slower than you

  683. are. It's slower than I am. And you

  684. might be surprised, but conversations

  685. are popping up every single time

  686. now. People have suddenly become much

  687. more

  688. kind. I've slowed

  689. down. Love has a pace. You see this?

  690. This is modeled in Jesus so many times

  691. in the way that he he walks. He he he

  692. walks slowly enough that a bleeding

  693. woman can catch up to him through a busy

  694. crowd and can touch his

  695. clothes. He walks he he operates in

  696. ministry slowly enough that blind

  697. people travel faster than he does catch

  698. up to him and stop him.

  699. travels slowly enough that the majority

  700. of his ministry is actually just

  701. interruptions. And he allows for space

  702. to be filled with nothing until it's

  703. filled with people.

  704. And that brings to the second part and

  705. that that love has a

  706. space and it's bigger than you're giving

  707. it. Love has time in my

  708. calendar. And the reason I think a big

  709. reason why we're so disconnected right

  710. now is because if I ever have a second

  711. of awkward, I've already got a solution

  712. to the awkward sitting in my back

  713. pocket.

  714. Because it's not weird to see someone

  715. doing

  716. this. It's not weird to to get stuck on

  717. your phone and texting and calling or

  718. scrolling or emailing or like I got I

  719. got to keep up, right? In this world, we

  720. want people to know they I'll never see

  721. him again, but I want them to know I'm

  722. busy. I think a believer is supposed to

  723. be the exact opposite.

  724. I think you should be able to see a

  725. genuine follower of Jesus through a

  726. crowd, but not the person who shows,

  727. "Don't you see how busy I am for the

  728. kingdom of God? Don't you see all I'm

  729. doing for Jesus? I'm on my way to serve

  730. for the third time today." Right? Like,

  731. I am so spiritual.

  732. I think you should be able to see him by

  733. the person that's eyes up waiting for

  734. eye contact walking a little bit slower.

  735. I make margin in my

  736. life. Not for phone, not to be filled

  737. with

  738. any but just for

  739. whoever may be

  740. interrupting right

  741. now. That's what I want for this

  742. summer. I don't know who got that text,

  743. but that may be that that might have

  744. been divine right there. Watch out. So,

  745. you need to watch this message or I

  746. don't know what's happening. Like, just

  747. text him back. I love you. I don't know

  748. what. Let's go out for coffee. Like,

  749. that was that was Watch

  750. out. Love has a space and it's bigger

  751. than you're giving it. We're becoming

  752. more and more dependent on technology

  753. and less and less dependent on people.

  754. We're becoming more and more dependent

  755. and and and prove to someone that we

  756. will never know and that we'll never see

  757. again. How

  758. busy, how how important we are by the

  759. pace at which we walk and how fast we

  760. walk by

  761. someone. What does that

  762. communicate? The most important

  763. people are too important for me, are too

  764. important. those around them. Yet

  765. Jesus, the only person that we can say

  766. is the most important

  767. person,

  768. constantly gave

  769. space, constantly gave time, and he

  770. walked slowly, even in the most urgent

  771. times. Hurry, my child is dying.

  772. Okay, let's go. Hurry. Lazarus is

  773. dying. All right, I'll get

  774. there. He walks at the pace of

  775. love. He leaves space in his life for

  776. love. I wonder if following Jesus, if

  777. you the sun comes up and the sun goes

  778. down and there is no interruptions, I

  779. can I can only imagine based off of the

  780. life that I read about Jesus. I can only

  781. imagine how odd that would have been.

  782. How just peculiar that what happened

  783. today? Like we got up, we did our

  784. thing, we ate our meals, we're going to

  785. bed. And yet that would how peculiar and

  786. odd would it be for the majority of us

  787. to go, I saw someone

  788. on the side of the road. It looked like

  789. they needed some help. I just pulled

  790. over. I helped them out. They already

  791. they already got some help. They had

  792. someone bringing them what they needed,

  793. but I just took a second. I prayed with

  794. them. I just stopped and like I don't

  795. know. I just I had an

  796. interruption for it to be odd and

  797. curious. Why? Why didn't I have an

  798. interruption today? I think that's how

  799. it should be as a believer that we

  800. operate with such peace. We come in with

  801. such love. Why? Because truly, if you're

  802. filled with the spirit, you're filled

  803. with a love that is greater than

  804. anything else this world has to offer.

  805. And it's like constantly having an

  806. unlimited amount of blank checks in your

  807. back pocket at all

  808. times. And the next person that you see,

  809. you get to give a blank check

  810. to. Man, if I had that and I had an

  811. unlimited amount and it's like, it's not

  812. even coming from my account. This is

  813. great. I'm like, I'd just be waiting for

  814. that opportunity. I'd be so excited to

  815. be able to like, who can I bless next?

  816. And that's the reality. And yet, we love

  817. to go, "Oh, man, but I'm so busy. Oh, I

  818. got all these things. You don't

  819. understand. I feel called to my job. You

  820. don't understand. I got these people

  821. that are important that I got to make

  822. sure to prioritize." Good. Prioritize

  823. that. But in your

  824. margin, don't leave room for

  825. scrolling. Don't leave

  826. room for your shows. First, leave margin

  827. for

  828. people because I don't know how well how

  829. how well you'd rate yourself on the

  830. scale of 1 to 10, but I'll tell

  831. you, you ain't strong enough

  832. yet. Guarantee you

  833. that. And I want for this summer to be a

  834. summer where we and specifically and

  835. this is our this is our audience. I want

  836. us to do it at all times and but

  837. specifically you may have heard me

  838. allude to it to our

  839. neighbors. I want look at the people

  840. that literally love your neighbor. What

  841. if it means your actual literal

  842. neighbor? And it might even if you're in

  843. an apartment, it might even be the

  844. person that lives above you that just

  845. tap dances all day long.

  846. It might what if it means love your

  847. neighbor, the person who actually lives

  848. right beside you and in the summer I see

  849. them and we actually know each other

  850. exist. We actually get to and be outside

  851. and and there's a challenge in in fact

  852. as you look up as you look up studies it

  853. says

  854. 75% three out of every four people of 18

  855. to 49 year olds that's the vast majority

  856. of people in here know only some or none

  857. of their immediate neighbors the houses

  858. right beside

  859. them 75 know either some for none of

  860. them.

  861. That's that's a picture of the isolation

  862. that we've been told is the way we ought

  863. to

  864. live. Or I open up my garage door, I

  865. pull my car in, I shut my garage door,

  866. and I walk

  867. inside. And I want to challenge us. In

  868. fact, there's this there's this book

  869. called The Art of

  870. Neighboring. And it's by Dave Jay Pathac

  871. and Dave Ren. And uh it gives this

  872. picture here and this is called the

  873. block map. And they say right now I need

  874. you to write down in these white squares

  875. your houses in the middle. I need you to

  876. write down the name of your eight

  877. closest neighbors to your

  878. house. He says, I've never been in a

  879. room unless I've already talked there

  880. and taught there and made this an

  881. intentional practice. I've never been in

  882. a room where more than 10% are able to

  883. fill that out. We live in an isolated

  884. world and we love to complain about it

  885. when we're oftentimes the

  886. problem. Could you name go through it

  887. right now who lives across the street

  888. from you? Just their names. You don't

  889. have to know their stories. You don't

  890. have to know their

  891. birthdays. You don't have to know their

  892. their pet's name. Sometimes it's easier

  893. to know their pet's name,

  894. honestly. What are their names? the

  895. people that live beside you, the people

  896. that live across from you, the people

  897. that live to caddy corner to you. If if

  898. you look at that, could you could you

  899. list those names

  900. off? When I first was presented with

  901. this, I was like, I feel okay. I got

  902. four or five

  903. names, but there's a couple people that

  904. I'm like, yeah, I haven't gotten to know

  905. them yet. or I did one time and I don't

  906. remember their names, but we've only

  907. lived in our house for eight years.

  908. So, okay, that's on me. That's on

  909. me. What if What if you set a table up?

  910. What if you set a bomb a campfire up

  911. outside in your driveway? What if you

  912. set your chairs up out there? What if

  913. you what if what is it that you're going

  914. to do this summer where you plan maybe

  915. you're going to do what Morgan did and

  916. you're going to sit and do your work or

  917. hang out by the kind of near the front

  918. door and when you see your neighbor go

  919. out to get mail it's like oh looks like

  920. I'm done here we go I'm going to go find

  921. my I'm going to get me some mail as

  922. well take some

  923. time specifically for your neighbors and

  924. I want to challenge us just to love our

  925. neighbors

  926. as best as we can. A practical real

  927. expression of love for the people who

  928. live right around you where they would

  929. look to you and they'd say, "Yeah, they

  930. they're up there as one of the most

  931. loving people that I

  932. know." So, if we can stand up here, I

  933. want to I want to conclude with this.

  934. Here in Omaha, there's a couple named

  935. Jeremy and Don Gillespie. They live in

  936. North Omaha. They lead what's called a

  937. lighthouse, which is a house put on by

  938. Abide Ministries that goes into

  939. dangerous neighborhoods and is there

  940. just to be the gospel and to do exactly

  941. this. And Jeremy and Don said uh are my

  942. lighthouse ministry leaders in North

  943. Omaha. They they offer snacks. They have

  944. become their house and their

  945. neighborhood has become this the snack

  946. house, the unofficial snack shop. Cuz

  947. kids would just walk up and be like,

  948. "Hey, how you doing? Can I eat your

  949. food?" as he's grilling. And he's like,

  950. "No, you can't." Like, "It's not even

  951. done yet. How long it going to be?" Like

  952. 40 minutes. Like, "This is going to be a

  953. little while. I'm smoking this thing.

  954. It's going to be a little Oh, you got

  955. anything else I can eat?" Well, kid just

  956. as he's like, "I can do that. I can get

  957. snacks for these people. I can just

  958. provide what what can" And so, he

  959. becomes this snack shop. And then, guess

  960. what it says? Every this this is their

  961. quote. Every Sunday evening, we're out

  962. on the front porch interacting with

  963. neighbors and sharing food. They set a

  964. rhythm. They set a habit. Here's my

  965. margin time and I'm going to use it

  966. intentionally. Everyone is invited and

  967. everyone is included. It's a family

  968. environment. We interact with our

  969. neighbors and we share food. They say

  970. now when they're gone over the weekend,

  971. they even have to update their neighbors

  972. about when they'll return so everyone

  973. can anticipate when the snack shop will

  974. open

  975. again. That's here in Omaha.

  976. I love this.

  977. In fact, if you look at what does a city

  978. need most? What inspired the book The

  979. Art of

  980. Neighboring is these guys went to their

  981. mayor and said, "What does our city need

  982. most? How can the churches come together

  983. and serve the city the most?" And guess

  984. what? They gave the same

  985. answer that Jean Start did months ago

  986. when they when when she was or a year

  987. ago when she was asked the same

  988. question.

  989. I just need you guys to be the best

  990. flipping

  991. neighbors

  992. ever. What if we just impacted our

  993. neighborhood? What if we just impacted

  994. the little pockets of people directly

  995. around us and that'll shape that'll

  996. shape our neighborhood? These lighouses

  997. in North

  998. Omaha have absolutely transformed.

  999. Police are knocking on their doors

1000. going, "I keep hearing that it's your

1001. house. This is the most dangerous

1002. neighborhood. This is this most

  1003. dangerous block in North

1004. Omaha and our police present hasn't

1005. presence hasn't changed anything. What

1006. have you done?" We've picked up trash.

  1007. We've loved on people. We've provided

1008. some food. We've fixed some windows.

  1009. We've just we've loved

1010. them. How can you love your

1011. neighborhood? How can you love the

1012. people around you intentionally? And

  1013. that's my challenge today. But here's

1014. the reality is that it is it can be

1015. exhausting to think about doing

1016. this. To think about going, I got to

1017. muster up this love for people that I

  1018. just don't love. Here's the

1019. reality. It's not your love that you're

1020. giving. So I can't give away the love of

1021. Christ if I am not first filled and

1022. convinced by the love of Christ for me.

  1023. Amen.

1024. So, I get to give the love that is God's

1025. love for them just through me. And so, I

1026. want I want for us as well a couple

  1027. different things. A commitment. I'm

1028. going to love my neighbors. I'm going to

1029. love my and I'm going to make a plan

1030. right now to set margin. I'm going to

1031. walk slowly. I'm going to leave space

1032. for love. I'm going to walk at a pace of

1033. love. And I'm going to do that this

1034. summer. And I'm going to be intentional

1035. with that. Maybe set some set some

1036. ideas. set what talk at your household.

1037. How can we love our neighborhood? How

1038. can we love the people around us? Well,

1039. and then second of all, maybe it's I

1040. don't feel like I got the capacity to

1041. love and what I need is I need the love

1042. of Christ in me. And if you've never

1043. given your life to the Lord and said, I

1044. am his, I am yours, God, and you are

  1045. mine, I would 100% I would never expect

1046. you to be able to carry the love of God

1047. within you. It's not possible if I

1048. haven't surrendered to it. So, I want to

1049. ask you to surrender to it this at this

1050. moment right now, this morning. This is

1051. it. And this can be a summer that

1052. changes your life to say,

1053. "God, I submit to your

1054. love." And I want us to pray this

1055. prayer. If you can just in your own

1056. heart, in your own words, just loud

1057. enough for you to hear, would you just

1058. agree, just agree with this prayer that

1059. I want to pray over you? You can pray in

1060. your own words. You can totally o take

1061. over the prayer time and and just pray

1062. in your own words to the father. But if

1063. you if you don't got any words to pray,

1064. echo my prayers. Heavenly Father, I pray

1065. right now over every single one of us

1066. that we would first of all be filled

1067. with your love. God, would you fill us

1068. with your love? May we be a church

1069. that's defined not by our services. May

1070. we be a church that's not defined by our

1071. greeting patterns, by our by by our

1072. coffee. We may we be a church that's not

1073. defined by the teams that we serve on.

1074. May we be a church that is defined by

1075. our love, by how radically we love those

1076. around us, by how much we want to give

1077. that love to those who do not have it.

1078. So God, I pray first of all for those in

1079. this room who are in desperate need of

  1080. your

1081. love, who do not say, "I feel loved."

1082. Who do not carry the identity of a loved

1083. child of God. Right now, we surrender.

1084. We don't fight for it. We don't beg for

1085. it. We don't try to earn it. We don't

1086. try to perform to it. We give it up. We

  1087. surrender to it.

1088. I pray every single person in here that

1089. needs to surrender to your love. Take a

1090. moment right now and just say to the

1091. Lord, "I surrender to your

1092. love. I surrender to your

  1093. love. I receive your

1094. love and I love you.

  1095. know me,

  1096. God. Father God, I

1097. pray that as we are filled with your

1098. love, Father God, would we give out a

1099. love that's bigger than ours? Give out a

1100. love that's greater than ours. Give out

  1101. a love that's supernatural. And would

1102. the world around us not experience just

1103. a smile, not experience just joy, but

  1104. experience something supernatural that

1105. they cannot put their finger

1106. on? Would they know whether they come to

1107. collective ever or not, whether they go,

1108. would they just know the love that you

  1109. have for them through

1110. us? We surrender to your

1111. love and we commit to give your

1112. love to walk at the pace to live at the

  1113. pace of

  1114. love. Thank you, Father.

1115. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray.

1116. Amen. Amen. Come on. Can we give a hand

1117. for the word of the Lord?

  1118. [Music]

1119. Hey, thanks so much for watching today's

1120. message. Our prayer is more than the

1122. that you would remember the things that

1123. God spoke to your heart. Yeah. And no

1124. matter what it was that God spoke to

1125. you, I know that part of your journey is

1126. other people being in a community

1127. because we are better together. So if

1128. you made a decision to follow Jesus
