  1. It is 2026. Happy new year. Who's ready

  2. for what God has for this year?

  3. Come on.

  4. I don't know exactly what 2025 was like

  5. for you. I don't know if it was your

  6. best year ever. I don't know if it might

  7. have been your worst year ever. But I'm

  8. telling you right now, what I want to do

  9. is I want everybody, everybody, can you

  10. put your hand about this high? everybody

  11. real quick and then I want you to just

  12. wave it back and forth and say goodbye

  13. 2025.

  14. I'm looking I'm I'm not looking back.

  15. I'm not hanging on to that because God's

  16. got a new thing, a new growth. I just I

  17. just believe that he's having us step

  18. into this season. I've got so much faith

  19. and expectation for what he has for me

  20. for 2026, for collective for 2026, and

  21. for every single person in this room. I

  22. believe we can step into 2026 with more

  23. faith than what we yet have. Uh in fact,

  24. this is a season of new year

  25. resolutions. Anybody a resolution type

  26. of person like I want to build a little

  27. bit of a vision? I think it's so helpful

  28. to do that because uh Proverbs 29:18

    Proverbs 29:18

  29. says this says where there is no

  30. prophetic vision the people cast off

  31. restraint the but blessed is he who

  32. keeps the law. Now we can dive into what

  33. this this whole verse but the whole idea

  34. is that that vision gives us direction

  35. gives us appropriate restraint gives us

  36. this ability to be able to focus and be

  37. able to give us like what am I doing? Am

  38. I existing or am I moving towards

  39. something and go a god-given now here

  40. here is where it specifies where there

  41. is no prophetic

  42. vision.

  43. This means that this comes from the

  44. Lord. And I'll tell you what, if I look

  45. to 2026

  46. and I look at December 31st to 2026 and

  47. I do my best to look ahead and then I

  48. think about this from the from the

  49. perspective

  50. of what when I meet Jesus,

  51. what is going to be the thing that he

  52. the things that he is worried about in

  53. 2026

  54. that I need to be focusing on right now

  55. when he looks when when we review I I

  56. think I think we're going to review

  57. every moment of our life. The scripture

  58. says that every idle word that we will

  59. walk through with Christ and and so I I

  60. just think if he says what is what do

  61. you think my plan was for 2026 and how

  62. well can we build it? because I I

  63. guarantee you that his plan for your

  64. 2026 has very little to do with your

  65. income.

  66. Has very little to do with your number

  67. of followers on social media. Has very

  68. little to do with your job title. has

  69. very little to do with your uh with with

  70. your position of power or influence or

  71. whatever it may be around you. And it

  72. has a lot more to do with who you are.

  73. Who is God calling you to be in 2026?

  74. That's what I want us to look at. And as

  75. I build my resolutions, as I build my my

  76. 2026, as I build my vision for this,

  77. what is he calling me to do is less

  78. important than who he's calling me to

  79. become?

  80. Who is he asking you to become? And so I

  81. want to what I want to do is I just want

  82. to uh take a time to pray into this to

  83. pray individually for each of us. So,

  84. could we take one more one more time

  85. before we step into the message fully

  86. today? Can we take a second just to pray

  87. into that? If you want to close your

  88. eyes and just hold your hands out to the

  89. Lord open like you're about to receive

  90. something. And what we're going to do is

  91. I just want you to receive this prayer

  92. in your own words. If you want to pray

  93. your own prayer, if you want to amen,

  94. however you want to do it, go ahead. But

  95. I want to pray over us. Lord, we declare

  96. your plan and your blessing and your

  97. favor and your grace over each person

  98. for 2026. Lord, we surrender with open

  99. hands our plans. We surrender with open

  100. hands our dreams and we instead we

  101. submit them to you and we ask, Lord,

  102. WOULD YOU GIVE US A HIGHER A GREATER

  103. VISION? Would you give us a higher and a

  104. deeper purpose? Lord, would we not just

  105. do what we want to do? Would we not just

  106. do what we are called to do? Would we

  107. not just act in obedience, but we would

  108. act in submission and humility? And

  109. would you change our very hearts?

  110. Lord, I pray for the hearts of stone in

  111. this room that you would turn it into a

  112. heart of flesh. Lord, I pray for the

  113. stubbornness in this room. God, would

  114. you give us a stubbornness for your

  115. word, not against your word, Lord? I

  116. pray that you would God give the leaders

  117. in this room vision and guidance. Lord,

  118. we want to submit and we want to lead

  119. according to your plan, not ours. Your

  120. prophetic vision, not ours. Lord, we

  121. receive

  122. we receive your blessing.

  123. We receive your favor. We declare it. We

  124. ask for it. and we receive your plan,

  125. your good, perfect plan over each of us

  126. for 2026. In the mighty name of Jesus,

  127. we pray.

  128. >> Amen. Let's go. I'm ready for it. I'm

  129. ready. We had this last week. I am so

  130. glad to be back together because last

  131. week we had Sabbath Sunday. It was

  132. online. It was a great time to get to

  133. rest and there was a lot of people out

  134. of town anyway. And and man, I just I

  135. miss y'all. I missed you guys. Uh, and

  136. so I'm so glad to be back in here. But

  137. during our Sabbath Sunday, uh, video

  138. online service we did, we revealed the

  139. word that God has for collective for

  140. 2025. And it comes from Proverbs

  141. 3:es 5-6.

  142. And it says, "Trust in the Lord with all

  143. your heart.

  144. Do not lean on your own understandings,

  145. but in all your ways acknowledge him and

  146. he will make your paths straight. I

  147. believe that what through prayer,

  148. through personal prayer, through prayers

  149. of our leaders, through prophetic words

  150. and what God is doing, what God is

  151. calling collective church into in 2026

  152. is to lean in.

  153. to lean in. In these first couple weeks

  154. of 2026, we're going to continue to hit

  155. on this throughout the year, but the

  156. first couple weeks, I want this to be an

  157. opportunity for us to lean in and to

  158. figure out what this looks like in terms

  159. of leaning in intimacy

  160. and leaning in with trust. Pastor

  161. Morgan's going to be talking about what

  162. it looks like to lean in in trust next

  163. week, but today I want to talk about

  164. lean in closer.

  165. lean in closer. Talking about that

  166. intimacy piece. See, as I look at what

  167. makes it hard, what makes resolutions

  168. hard and why less and less people are

  169. doing them is because I continue to

  170. build a uh goal for me and I find that

  171. it's really unattainable

  172. because I can't determine what the end

  173. of 2026 is going to look like. You're

  174. right. And after doing that enough

  175. times, it's like, man, I think I stink

  176. at this or there's enough curveballs

  177. being thrown that I'm not expecting that

  178. I don't really know what's going to

  179. happen. And so, let's just figure it

  180. out. I cannot guarantee for you what the

  181. end of 2026 is going to look like. I

  182. have no clue. Things are changing way

  183. too quick. Things are changing way too

  184. much. I have no clue what this world

  185. what the state of our being. I have no

  186. clue if we're going to be live if we're

  187. going to be thriving, if our economy is

  188. going to be in the best position ever or

  189. if or if we're going to be in this

  190. terrible tense place and politically and

  191. socially and economically like there's

  192. something I don't know.

  193. And so it does make it hard to give

  194. goals.

  195. But I'll tell you what, I can't control

  196. what the end of 2026 is going to look

  197. like. But I can control the posture that

  198. I take in the midst of all of it. Right?

  199. I can I can determine right now the

  200. posture that I will keep all year long.

  201. And it's your posture is so important.

  202. And your posture changes the way that

  203. your body is perceiving the world around

  204. you based off of if I'm walking around

  205. like this all day long. I don't care if

  206. I started the day off gray, I'm going to

  207. end up having a pretty rough day because

  208. all I'm doing is I'm just sitting here

  209. and I'm telling my body it's not a great

  210. day. I'm telling my body it's it's I

  211. don't have the energy to stand up

  212. straight. It's I'm a t it's a tired day.

  213. I got my eyes down here. It's a

  214. visionless day. I don't know what's

  215. coming up in front of me. I got if I've

  216. got if my posture literally can change

  217. the way I interact when I'm feeling

  218. sleepy or tired and I'm leaning back and

  219. I'm and I and I'm sitting if I choose to

  220. change my posture it'll change my energy

  221. level in the same way a lot of us are

  222. approaching

  223. life looking trying to hang on to the

  224. old things and we're kind of we got a

  225. posture spiritually a heart posture of

  226. like this this leaning

  227. back and I'm like I'm still looking for

  228. the things of old. Oh man, I wish it was

  229. like that or what about that person?

  230. What they did to me and how it what they

  231. deserve or man what I deserve and I wish

  232. I should have had that position or like

  233. this good thing is it going to fade away

  234. and I look at all these things behind me

  235. and and it's this this leaning back and

  236. actually the more I focus the more I

  237. overfocus on the past the more that

  238. actually is one of the number one

  239. leading causes of depression.

  240. when I when I'm so like these are all

  241. the the bad things or the sad things

  242. that did or that didn't happen to me.

  243. And if I refuse to let those things go,

  244. I'm stuck in this posture of leaning

  245. back. And then there's another posture

  246. that we can have of of just no lean.

  247. I'm just standing straight up. I got

  248. nothing. And guess what happens? What

  249. happens here is that you get all the

  250. winds of every teaching of every person.

  251. I've got no real great steady solid

  252. ground. And as soon as someone says,

  253. "Did you hear about the the Argentinian

  254. president? Did you hear about what

  255. happened there? THIS IS A TERRIBLE THING

  256. TO HAPPEN." OH, that's a terrible thing.

  257. This is a great thing to happen. Oh,

  258. that's a great thing. RIGHT. LIKE WHAT

  259. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO RECEIVE THE things

  260. that are going on in this world? This is

  261. a LOOK AT LOOK AT our look AT OUR

  262. PRESIDENT. HE IS HE IS TERRIBLE

  263. CHARACTER. YES. YEAH, HE'S DOING GOOD

  264. THINGS. YES, HE'S DOING GOOD THINGS. AND

  265. THEN I'LL SUDDENLY START TO I DON'T KNOW

  266. WHERE I'M STANDING. I don't know what's

  267. going on because I've got no lean. The

  268. only lean that I have is what is given

  269. toward me. And I submit to whatever

  270. weird teachings end up coming up and I'm

  271. like that's I don't know that I could

  272. kind of see that happening. I think

  273. maybe birds are just drones.

  274. IT'S A SLIPPERY SLOPE TO GET DOWN THAT

  275. PATH, GUYS. And like this is I'm not

  276. there, but some of y'all may be some of

  277. y'all I've talked to and you're like

  278. you're there, right? And we got to we

  279. got to like what your posture is just

  280. whatever I hear I'm receiving and I'm

  281. letting it push me around and I'm

  282. letting it shape me. And then I have

  283. another posture. If I lean too far

  284. forward, if I'm focused too far on the

  285. future, if I'm trying to control what

  286. the end of 2026 looks like, that doesn't

  287. bring about depression. and that brings

  288. about anxiety.

  289. And so instead of leaning forward, I'm

  290. going to lean in.

  291. And it's a posture of readiness. Like

  292. I'm getting ready to start a race. I got

  293. my weight mostly on my front foot. I'm

  294. leaning in. I've got expectation. I'm

  295. not afraid of what the next step is

  296. going to look like. I'm not afraid of

  297. what's coming up in front of me. I'm

  298. going to choose to lean in closer.

  299. lean in closer. And here's the big idea.

  300. The closer we get to Christ, the clearer

  301. he becomes. This is why I want to I want

  302. to focus on leaning in closer today

  303. because I don't know if you feel like

  304. you don't have your vision. I don't feel

  305. like if you feel like you've got it all

  306. figured out, it but but I can guarantee

  307. you that the closer if you're like, I

  308. don't know what he's doing in me. I

  309. don't know what he's doing in the world

  310. around me. I don't know how I'm supposed

  311. to respond to what's happening here. But

  312. I promise you, the closer you get to

  313. Christ, the clearer he will become. See,

  314. it's kind of like if you guys did any

  315. driving, anybody do any driving on

  316. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Anybody

  317. do any travel? Was it not the that then

  318. one foggy Christmas Eve? This was like a

  319. Rudolph Christmas. It was built for a

  320. bright shiny red nose and it was We were

  321. driving around in the fog actually. And

  322. my daughter says, "When are we going to

  323. get into the fog?"

  324. Because I look, it's there. It's there.

  325. It's there. And it's there, but it's not

  326. here. Because I look at the road, right?

  327. I look at the trees beside me. I see the

  328. trees perfectly clear. I see the signs

  329. on the road. I'm waiting for us to get

  330. When are we going to get into the fog?

  331. When are we actually going to see it?

  332. Fog is one of those interesting things

  333. that from far away, this is a picture.

  334. This is where my kids are at right now

  335. up in the mountains in California. That

  336. is Fresno, California down there.

  337. This is a picture from literally just

  338. the other day uh when they were looking

  339. and fog has set in on Fresno,

  340. but they are up above it and it is this

  341. thick. But from far away, it's like you

  342. you won't you can't see squat in there.

  343. But as you start to get closer, it's

  344. like when have I entered the fog? When

  345. have I stepped in? It's it becomes

  346. harder to like it it becomes hard to see

  347. exactly when I'm in it. How? Because I

  348. can still see 50 feet. I can still see a

  349. quarter mile. I can still see a little

  350. ways around me, but I see that I am in

  351. fog. I just the reality is is if I look

  352. at this, I can't see what's happening.

  353. And we we approach our life this same

  354. way. I don't see what Jesus is doing. I

  355. don't see what's happening down there

  356. over there. I don't see what's happening

  357. in my city, what he's doing. I see what

  358. the enemy is doing. I see how hard and

  359. scary and I see that that there's a lot

  360. of unknown out there. But how do I

  361. discover what Jesus is doing? I got to

  362. lean in closer. And when I walk in and I

  363. step in and I actually start entering

  364. the fog now, I can start to see what's

  365. around me. But it's not until then that

  366. I can see what's going on inside.

  367. It's not until then that I can actually

  368. step in faith and go, "Oh, there's

  369. actually there's still a functioning

  370. city inside of this fog that you can't

  371. see.

  372. THERE'S SO MUCH GOING ON. GOD IS DOING

  373. SO MUCH AND IT'S NOT UNTIL that I jump

  374. in and I lean in and I get closer to him

  375. that I see that he is moving.

  376. See, leaning into Jesus in 2026 means

  377. getting closer to him.

  378. And the closer we get to Christ, the

  379. clearer he becomes. Scripture talks

  380. about this in a lot of different ways.

  381. It it says we see in part, we know in

  382. part, though we see uh like in a mirror

  383. dimly. That's first Corinthians. And

  384. then later the Apostle Paul who wrote 1

  385. Corinthians then writes in 2

  386. Corinthians, now we see with unveiled

  387. face. And he reveals this whole idea of

  388. like, man, I can't see clearly. But then

  389. later he's like, we can see it really

  390. clearly because the closer we get to

  391. Christ, the clearer he becomes. The more

  392. I press in, the more I look for him in

  393. these foggy, hard, dark situations that

  394. I'm not sure exactly what is he doing?

  395. Is he absent here? Did he lose this

  396. battle? Is am I here because I just I've

  397. I'm so bad I messed up his plan for me

  398. and there's nothing he can do anymore.

  399. Or did they do something so bad that

  400. it's now messed up for me because of

  401. their actions? The reality is is if I

  402. lean into him, I'm going to see it.

  403. I'm going to see him working. I'm going

  404. to see what he does because there's

  405. there's I I found that there's three

  406. different ways, three primary ways that

  407. God speaks.

  408. If you want to hear God lead you, if you

  409. want to hear the voice of God, there are

  410. a couple different ways that God speaks.

  411. God shouts,

  412. RIGHT? THERE'S SOME times when God is

  413. shouting. There's time when Morgan and I

  414. I needed when we were thinking about

  415. planting collective church. I didn't I

  416. needed God to shout at me. God is

  417. starting to lead us and he's starting to

  418. uh reveal to us and and so I say, "God,

  419. if this is you, would you tell us really

  420. really clearly?" And the next day, a

  421. lady walks up to Morgan and says, "God

  422. is asking you to go plant a church."

  423. She calls me and she SAYS, "THIS IS WHAT

  424. A LADY just told me." She had no clue

  425. that we were praying about it. We had no

  426. She had no clue that we had talked to

  427. some of our mentors about this idea. She

  428. had we barely knew this person and just

  429. was this divine interaction. And so I

  430. was like, "Cool, cool, cool, cool."

  431. But he didn't say when.

  432. So God, we're going to do this in like

  433. three years when we build up our

  434. savings. That's what we're going to do.

  435. We need three months living expenses. We

  436. got how much in our savings account?

  437. 175. So we are we going to need to save

  438. up. So let's do the math. Let's

  439. rebudget. Let's figure this thing out.

  440. Okay. Okay, it's going to be about 2

  441. years before we ever have a conversation

  442. with anyone else about actually doing

  443. something about this. What's the number?

  444. We figured out our budget. We wrote the

  445. number down. This is what we need to see

  446. in our savings account before we talk to

  447. anybody. Get a phone call the next day,

  448. almost exactly 24 hours later. Hey, you

  449. got a check coming in the mail from your

  450. deceased grandpa. Here's the number

  451. that's going to be on the check.

  452. to the dollar, not a round number,

  453. exactly the number we had written the

  454. night before.

  455. God was shouting.

  456. The other times that God's shouting, we

  457. see the shouting of the Lord, the really

  458. really clear leading is like the the 10

  459. plagues and the splitting of the Red

  460. Sea. We see things like the uh Saul when

  461. he becomes the Apostle Paul when he is

  462. knocked off his donkey AND THE BRIGHT

  463. LIGHT SHINES AND A VOICE FROM HEAVEN

  464. COMES OUT. YOU CANNOT DENY THIS. THIS IS

  465. GOD SHOUTING AT YOU. There's sometimes,

  466. but not very often when God will shout,

  467. he will make it so clear. But more often

  468. than that, you'll sense a a nudge, a

  469. little little bump. What this happens is

  470. is the Apostle Paul later, he says, "I

  471. can't wait. We're going to Asia with the

  472. gospel." And God says, "I'm shutting

  473. those doors."

  474. And it wasn't this powerful. There was

  475. no light from heaven. There was no

  476. anything. It just was a shut door. So,

  477. okay. So, I guess we're going to

  478. Macedonia.

  479. There's little nudges that God gives

  480. that begins to lead you in the right

  481. direction. That begins to lead you away

  482. from the things that you don't need, the

  483. things that you need to stay away from.

  484. these little nudges and you follow that.

  485. But here's the thing. I find

  486. the nudges happen fairly fairly often.

  487. When I'm really desperate, I'll I'll get

  488. some of those.

  489. But he also whispers

  490. just like Elijah when he was running

  491. away as people were seeking his life

  492. after Mount Carmel and a a shout moment

  493. from God happened and fire came down

  494. from heaven and burned up the altar and

  495. and then he's running away and he hides

  496. in a cave and then suddenly an

  497. earthquake and a fire and a wind come

  498. through and then

  499. a small low whisper

  500. and he comes out from the cave.

  501. And God wasn't in the fire. He wasn't in

  502. the earthquake. He wasn't in the wind.

  503. He was in the whisper.

  504. And it wasn't until Elijah

  505. stepped out of his own fears and out of

  506. the craziness and the storms around him

  507. and he stepped into the whisper. Here's

  508. the thing. The longer I've followed

  509. Christ,

  510. the more I realize

  511. he's always whispering.

  512. He is always speaking. It doesn't just

  513. happen. Shouts are very few and far

  514. between. Nudges are helpful time to

  515. time. And whispers are all the time. The

  516. problem is that I'm not always

  517. listening.

  518. So learning, I lean into him to hear the

  519. whispers of what he is doing. Matthew

    Matthew 10:27

  520. 10:27, Jesus says this, "What I tell you

  521. in the dark, say it in the light. What

  522. you hear whispered,

  523. proclaim on the housetops."

  524. This is the reality that as as I look at

  525. as I look at getting close to Jesus,

  526. it's just like any other relationship.

  527. It's supposed to be a relationship. If

  528. you're if you say you're close with

  529. someone, who would say you got someone

  530. in the room, point to the person in the

  531. room that you say, "I'm really close to

  532. this person." Go ahead. If you got right

  533. beside you, there you go. I see a couple

  534. I see a couple one-way points. I don't

  535. see it going the other. Uh, we're going

  536. to have to have conversations after the

  537. If you're close with someone, how do you

  538. become close? I got my bride over here.

  539. I'm really close with her. This is not

  540. because I just I met her and I looked at

  541. her from afar and the first time I saw

  542. her I didn't fall in love with her but I

  543. was like man she's easy to look at and I

  544. and I thought to myself I really like

  545. this girl and and this is and but it

  546. wasn't until time and investment and

  547. getting to know each other that we

  548. actually became close. It takes time to

  549. develop intimacy.

  550. Intimacy and closeness is not something

  551. that just happens in a snap. It's just

  552. like transformation. If you want to see

  553. God change you as you get closer to him,

  554. I guarantee you, you will be changed.

  555. John 15:4-5

    John 15:4–5

  556. Jesus says this, "Remain in me and I

  557. will remain in you. Abide in me. Stay in

  558. me and I will stay with you. For a

  559. branch cannot bear fruit, produce fruit

  560. if it's severed from the vine. And you

  561. too cannot be fruitful unless you remain

  562. in me. And then he continues on. But the

  563. here here's the here's the idea. If I

  564. want to become more like Christ, if I

  565. want my who to begin to change and be

  566. less full of flesh and sin and mess and

  567. more like who he is and who he's leading

  568. me to become, then I have to spend time

  569. with the person I am trying to become

  570. like.

  571. I have to take time for getting close

  572. and for intimacy and hearing his

  573. whispers and getting to know him and

  574. leaning in and looking for him in the

  575. foggy seasons. I have to do that. And

  576. then guess what? Love is going to start

  577. to grow. Guess what? The closeness is

  578. going to start to grow. I'm going to

  579. start seeing that the things I didn't

  580. even I didn't even try, but these things

  581. just are falling off. my short temper,

  582. my my my necessity, my need for alcohol

  583. or my need for validation or my need for

  584. feeling loved by someone else or

  585. whatever it may be. It's suddenly

  586. starting to dissipate and just disappear

  587. because I'm not because I'm doing all

  588. these things, but because I'm getting

  589. nearer to Christ.

  590. Would you lean in in 2026?

  591. And I want us to lean in one of two ways

  592. because transformation, intimacy, it

  593. doesn't just happen. It happens. If you

  594. look at this, if you want to see, you

  595. can change the way you think. You can

  596. change the way your heart responds to

  597. situations. You can change the way that

  598. you act. You can change the things that

  599. you do right when you wake up and the

  600. things that your mind is thinking about

  601. right when you wake up and when you're

  602. going to bed. you all that can change

  603. but it doesn't happen because of I came

  604. to church on Sunday morning and had a

  605. powerful worship encounter.

  606. It happens transformation happens with

  607. habits. If I want to lean in I've got to

  608. first lean in with habits. I got to lean

  609. in with things that I start to do every

  610. single day. and I start to build habits

  611. that lead me to lean in.

  612. Right? I've got to I've got I've got to

  613. start leaning in with habits. Romans

    Romans 12:2

  614. 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the

  615. pattern of this world, but be

  616. transformed by the renewing of your

  617. mind." This is the same thing. Do not

  618. conform. Do not just be blown by every

  619. wind of teaching. Be transformed. Lean

  620. in. Look to who he is. Let him begin to

  621. change your heart, change your life. Be

  622. transformed by the renewing of your

  623. mind. Then you'll be able to test and to

  624. prove what God's will is. I don't know

  625. what it is. It looks pretty foggy. The

  626. more I lean in, the more I will get to

  627. understand what he's doing.

  628. Approve what God's will is. His good,

  629. his pleasing, and his perfect will. See,

  630. this is this is where we got to start to

  631. build habits. This is the time right now

  632. to start building your habits for 2026.

  633. And this is why like I I want every

  634. single day ha building a habit of

  635. connection with him is the most

  636. important thing you can do. It is so

  637. vital to every other aspect of life. So

  638. build a habit of I'm just going to get

  639. in his word every single day. Even if

  640. it's just one verse, even if it's just

  641. for one minute, I'm going to get in his

  642. word. I'm going to pray every day. Even

  643. if it's a really hollow like, man, I I

  644. don't feel like I got much to give and

  645. like I just I'm empty today, God, and

  646. that's all I can say. I just got nothing

  647. left. I'm going to get a prayer in every

  648. single day. I'm going to come to our

  649. monthly prayer services, right? First

  650. Tuesday of every month, you want to know

  651. how to start 2026 off right. This

  652. Tuesday, 6:30 p.m., just down the street

  653. at Kingsway Christian Church, we have

  654. our prayer service. Start it off right.

  655. If you want, if you go, I'm really

  656. uncomfortable in prayer. I'll tell you

  657. what, prayer is more caught than it is

  658. taught.

  659. I catch it. I catch the idea in how to

  660. pray way more than I just understand. I

  661. learn a lesson. I read a book about it.

  662. I want to catch the prayer. If you want

  663. to learn how to pray, come to our

  664. prayer. Begin to build habits. Come to

  665. prayer service. Come to church saying,

  666. "I'm coming every week." The purpose of

  667. church is not just to come and receive.

  668. The purpose of church is to come and be

  669. a part of a family and to take part and

  670. to join and be a part of the mission and

  671. be part of the goal. But sometimes, even

  672. if you got nothing else and you're like,

  673. "All I can do is SHOW UP. ALL I'VE GOT

  674. IS JUST ENOUGH TO GET IN my car and walk

  675. inside and sit in a seat and that's all

  676. I got." That's all it is. Even if that's

  677. all you got, just come get yourself

  678. around the body of Christ. Let the fire

  679. that other people are carrying warm your

  680. soul and build up and stoke up your own

  681. spiritual fire as well.

  682. And this is why if you want to start

  683. habits, it takes it demands

  684. intentionality. So this is why every

  685. single year and the same as right now,

  686. we are starting a fast. We are starting

  687. the year with fasting and with prayer.

  688. And what we're going to be doing is

  689. we're going to be building in habits.

  690. Some of these habits may be

  691. unsustainable.

  692. Some of these habits like as we fast and

  693. cut things out. I want us to fast two

  694. ways. I want us to fast something with

  695. food. Every single time that you see

  696. fasting in the Bible, 100% of the time

  697. it has to do with cutting food out.

  698. Usually it is all food and liquids in

  699. and water only. Usually that's what

  700. fasting mean. So I want us to have

  701. something where we are saying I'm

  702. cutting a meal. Morgan and I were

  703. cutting all sweets. We're only doing

  704. like whole natural healthy foods and

  705. then and I'm going to be cutting a meal

  706. or two as the usually as the fast goes

  707. on things get a little bit more intense

  708. for me. I feel like God calls me into a

  709. little bit more aggressive fasting. But

  710. I but I what we're doing is we're

  711. cutting some food out so that we hunger.

  712. So that we're getting into this this

  713. state of like I'm uncomfortable and

  714. allows for my flesh to get stirred up

  715. when I'm wanting these I have these

  716. cravings and I go no I crave you more

  717. Lord. When I'm desiring some something

  718. else and when I'm hungering and I go no

  719. I hunger for you most. And then every

  720. single time that I crave, every single

  721. time that I hunger, I'm actually drawing

  722. it into a prayer. And then the second

  723. thing I want us to fast is some form of

  724. food and some form of entertainment.

  725. Some of us are are are so surrounding

  726. ourselves with junk in the content that

  727. we are consuming, whether it's bad,

  728. we're like, "Man, I don't know why I'm

  729. depressed." And I look at your playlist

  730. and 90% of it's Billy Eyish. And it's

  731. like, well,

  732. Right? Can we get real? YOU'RE LIKE, I'M

  733. ALWAYS SCARED. I'M LIKE, WELL, LET'S

  734. LOOK AT YOUR RECENTLY view watched

  735. things on Netflix. Okay. Right. Like,

  736. what what are we watching? The Haunting

  737. of Whatever. Like, stop it.

  738. What are we watching? I'm I'm Let's

  739. Let's look at I'm I'm just afraid of

  740. what's going on in this world. Well,

  741. what conspiracy theories are you

  742. listening to? Who are you constantly

  743. WATCHING? WHAT ARE YOU WHAT PODCASTS ARE

  744. YOU LISTENING TO? WHAT THINGS? Maybe I

  745. just need to take a step back in some

  746. form of entertainment. Reclaim your

  747. consumerism. Clean it up. Maybe it's

  748. just emptiness. Man, when I'm tired,

  749. what do I do? Do I go to prayer? No, I

  750. go to Candy Crush.

  751. Maybe it's Maybe it's cleaning out and

  752. saying, "God, for right now, what I'm

  753. going to do is I'm going to cut out

  754. Netflix. I'm going to cut out games. I'm

  755. going to cut out social media. I'm going

  756. to What is it going to be? Fast

  757. something with food. Fast something with

  758. entertainment for 14 days. Cut it out.

  759. The purpose of the fast is not just to

  760. stop it, but to replace it with the

  761. Lord. And I'm going to take that empty

  762. time. I'm going to take that emptiness

  763. in my stomach. I'm going to take that

  764. empty time on my screen time and I'm

  765. going to turn it towards him. And what

  766. we're doing is we've actually got a

  767. reading plan associated with this. You

  768. can scan the QR code. Go ahead. If

  769. you're not a part of it, if you want to

  770. jump in on this fast, and you can do it

  771. however you want. You can say, "I'm

  772. going to cut out one candy bar a day.

  773. That's it. I'm still going to have it."

  774. Like, I don't know what what the Lord's

  775. asking you to do, but I want you to join

  776. in in some capacity. The more you put

  777. in, the more you will get out. And then

  778. you can join this. And we're going to

  779. have a verse sent out, a little passage

  780. sent out to read every single day, and a

  781. little thought to be able to go with it

  782. for us to be able to fast and pray

  783. together

  784. as we look at what does it mean to lean

  785. in,

  786. to lean in in 2026. What does it mean

  787. for us as a church? Then what does it

  788. mean for me as a child of God? So, I

  789. want to lean in with habits. But here's

  790. the thing.

  791. God says, "I don't want your sacrifices.

  792. I don't want your burnt offerings if it

  793. doesn't come with you." The only reason

  794. he asks us to build our habits is

  795. because he wants us.

  796. He doesn't want your emptyhearted,

  797. eyes closed, earsplugged attendance at

  798. church. He wants you to lean in with

  799. habits and you lean in with heart. Now,

  800. what does this mean?

  801. This means vulnerability with God.

  802. This means honesty and transparency

  803. maybe with him and maybe with someone

  804. else as well

  805. where you go and you confess and you

  806. walk through and you say, "This is the

  807. vision that I feel like God's given me

  808. and this is I and if you build your

  809. accountability around vision as opposed

  810. to regret, I I got to stop doing these

  811. things." No, build it around a vision.

  812. this is who God's calling me to be and

  813. so I must cut out these other things and

  814. then your accountability gets to focus

  815. on the forward direction. Okay. So this

  816. is this is where I want for us to learn

  817. how to lean into Christ in our heart.

  818. Why? Because it's it's just like the fog

  819. when I go and I decide to press in

  820. through the vulnerability. I'm going to

  821. find I've got sinfulness. I've got mess.

  822. I've got regrets. I've got I've made

  823. some serious mistakes. You don't

  824. understand how I've fallen back. I don't

  825. think God wants me. I don't think he

  826. loves me. You don't understand. I've got

  827. imper I I I have sinned and other people

  828. know it. And guess what? Now I'm getting

  829. imperfect love from imperfect people and

  830. I'm receiving it imperfectly. And

  831. they're not I I feel like I'm getting

  832. judgment. I feel like I'm getting

  833. whatever it may be. And so I just I

  834. guess what? If you go to God, if you

  835. press in through that vulnerability,

  836. you will find that there is grace found

  837. in his presence.

  838. Why lean in? Because grace is found in

  839. his presence.

  840. You will find that he is ready to redeem

  841. your story of sin and turn it back

  842. towards him.

  843. You will find when you lean in, if I do

  844. it with vulnerability and I do and I I I

  845. will give my heart and my hurts, if I

  846. hang on to them and I don't share them

  847. and I don't give them to them, I don't

  848. surrender them and I'm more comfortable

  849. keeping them here, I'm not going to see

  850. any healing. But you will find as you

  851. lean in that healing is found in his

  852. wings.

  853. You will find if you lean into Christ

  854. that purpose is found in his plan. But

  855. it's never going to happen unless I give

  856. my plan and I surrender it to him. I got

  857. a vulnerable. This is THIS IS NOT JUST A

  858. HABIT. THIS IS a heart situation. Right?

  859. You see the difference here? We've got

  860. to surrender our heart. We got to build

  861. we've got to find that strength is found

  862. in his arms. When I am weak, I find it

  863. in him. We got to see that when when you

  864. lean into Christ, that love is found in

  865. his hands. When I look at the hands of

  866. Christ and I see the scars from his

  867. sacrifice for me, I recognize that there

  868. is nothing I could do that could

  869. separate me from the love that Christ

  870. has already given to me. And I don't

  871. have to work for love from anyone else.

  872. And I'll find that truth is found in his

  873. word in an AI world where truth is

  874. becoming more and more harder and harder

  875. to find. Where do I go for truth? I know

  876. where I go. I know where I'm going. I

  877. know that I can depend on him. And I

  878. know that I'm looking for my answers in

  879. him,

  880. not just in this world.

  881. We ought to lean in with our habits. We

  882. got to lean in with our heart. If we can

  883. stand up real quick. What I want to do

  884. here is I want to take some time.

  885. If you

  886. are ready

  887. to lean in in 2026,

  888. I want to challenge you to take a step

  889. forward right now and that we can begin

  890. to crowd the altar. Go ahead. That we

  891. can begin if you say, "I'm going to lean

  892. in 2026. I'm going to lean in with

  893. habits. I'm going to start building new

  894. habits. I'm going to lean in with my

  895. heart. I'm going to do the very best I

  896. can to actually be vulnerable and allow

  897. for him to shift and change the things

  898. going on within my very soul. Make room.

  899. Scoot aside. Scoot aside so we can make

  900. room as people are coming up to the

  901. altar. And what we got, what I want to

  902. do is I want anybody who's saying, "I'm

  903. just going to do this to the best of my

  904. imperfect, really terrible ability. I'm

  905. going to fail a thousand times and a

  906. thousand times again, but I'm going to

  907. lean in." Come on. if you're leaning in.

  908. And then what I want us to do is if

  909. you're comfortable with it, could we

  910. just put a point of contact on the

  911. shoulder of someone next to you? If you

  912. know them, you maybe want to hold their

  913. hand. If it's a spouse or significant

  914. other, like however, just a point of

  915. contact so we can show Come on. Let We

  916. got more people coming in. Can we make

  917. room? Let's scoot over over here. Let's

  918. scoot over so that we can make room. We

  919. got a lot of people in the aisles. If we

  920. can scoot over as well, Russ, can we

  921. scoot over a little bit over here? There

  922. we go. Let's scoot over, make room so we

  923. can get people around here because we

  924. are leaning in, but we're not doing it

  925. alone. We're not doing it alone. Scoot

  926. on up and grab a hand, grab a shoulder,

  927. and what I want to do is I want to do

  928. quick declaration prayer for every

  929. person here. Heavenly Father, I declare

  930. that this is going to be a new year. I

  931. declare that this is going to be a new

  932. time. I declare that right now, I cannot

  933. determine what the world is going to be

  934. doing. I cannot determine the what flesh

  935. is going to be doing. I cannot determine

  936. what the people around me are going to

  937. be doing. But I can determine my posture

  938. and I will lean in, Lord, every single

  939. one of us that we will lean into you. We

  940. will trust you. We will get closer with

  941. you. We will say yes to you. We will

  942. lean in with our habits. We will lean in

  943. with our whole hearts. Lord, would you

  944. change our actions? Lord, would you

  945. change our emotions, our heart, the

  946. issues, the problems, the things that

  947. get us upset. May we be frustrated with

  948. the things that frustrate you, not the

  949. things that frustrate my flesh and my

  950. pride and my ego. Lord, I pray would you

  951. renew our hearts? Would you renew our

  952. minds as we lean in together? Would we

  953. be a church that encourages each other,

  954. that lifts each other up, and we say, as

  955. we're leaning in, that God, I pray that

  956. as conversations happen beyond this

  957. altar between people who are here at the

  958. altar, Lord, I pray, Father God, that we

  959. would challenge each other in hard

  960. moments to lean in.

  961. That we would not just empathize with

  962. each other, but we would then move

  963. forward and say, "Now, let's let's lean

  964. in and figure out what Jesus is doing

  965. here. Let's lean in and not let this

  966. pull us away from him, but let us draw

  967. near to him.

  968. Father God, may we be a church that

  969. lifts each other up as we all are

  970. mutually leaning in to Christ, leaning

  971. in, getting closer and closer to you

  972. every day. Lord, we submit it. We

  973. declare it. In the mighty name of Jesus,

  974. we pray it. Amen. Amen. Amen. Come on,

  975. can we give a hand for the word of the

  976. Lord?
