  1. Oh, the Lord is my sheer.

  2. I shall not want

  3. me by wers till my fears are gone.

  4. Though I walk through the valley

  5. of the shadow of death, I know you are

  6. with me, my father,

  7. my friend.

  8. Your goodness and mercy

  9. will follow me all of my days.

  10. I know by your still waterers I'm safe.

  11. >> Let's go. Come on.

  12. What an incredible joy it is to get to

  13. rest and to sit in the presence of the

  14. Lord.

  15. This is something that I I always value.

  16. I always want for us to be able to take

  17. intentionality to be able to dive into

  18. into these moments with the Lord like we

  19. just had in worship. This is something

  20. that we just did with our team.

  21. Actually, some of our core leaders uh

  22. every year we'll bring a group of people

  23. down to Houston uh for the CMN, Church

  24. Multiplication Network Conference. And

  25. guys, we had a great time. We had this

  26. is the group of people that came with us

  27. and uh it was so cool. It was so much

  28. fun. If you see one of them uh today,

  29. would you find a ask them what stood out

  30. to you? What did God speak to you?

  31. Because there was so much so much that

  32. he spoke so much that when you take time

  33. and intentionality to say, "Lord, I'm

  34. right here and I got nothing else to do.

  35. I got nothing else on my agenda but just

  36. to receive from you. I you'll you'll get

  37. something from him every time. I just

  38. believe that to the core of my being.

  39. I've experienced that. I I'm so grateful

  40. uh Pastor Morgan for the way that you

  41. lead us into these moments where we can

  42. just take time. The worship's beautiful.

  43. The the the prayer time is beautiful.

  44. And just to be able to sit and listen

  45. and seek the voice of God is

  46. extraordinary.

  47. Absolutely beautiful. But

  48. if we're going on a trip, that means I

  49. have to do one of my least favorite

  50. things in the entire world.

  51. Packing.

  52. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. Is it

  53. is it is the bane of my existence. Is

  54. the kryptonite to my joy. It is like it

  55. is so bad. I I truly every day my least

  56. favorite part of every single day is

  57. picking out my outfit. I'm not good at

  58. it. I don't necessarily know what I'm

  59. doing. This morning I picked out this

  60. shet and then I had four shirts that I'm

  61. like, I DON'T KNOW WHAT SHOULD GO

  62. UNDERNEATH IT. BABE, can you help me

  63. out? And guess what? She picked out a

  64. totally different shirt. She's like,

  65. bad, bad, bad, bad. Nope, none of those.

  66. We're going to pick out a new one

  67. because I I've just I don't see it. I'm

  68. not good at that. Uh it's not a it's but

  69. I recognize that it's important in terms

  70. of like how people receive you and will

  71. they listen to you like and so I see

  72. it's important. I see I'm not good at it

  73. and it's just stressful. And packing is

  74. like taking all the worst times of the

  75. week and combining it into one lump. I

  76. hate it. It is so hard. But

  77. I'm a warrior.

  78. I am more than an overcomer. Amen. In

  79. Christ we are more than overcomers. And

  80. so I got I'm Sunday night. I'm getting

  81. ready and I'm like, "Let's go." I am

  82. like whistling. I'm like singing. I'm

  83. like, "Nothing's going to bring me down.

  84. I'm getting ready to pack. Here we go."

  85. And it's like this defiant joy, right?

  86. Like the world around me is coming

  87. against me. I've got Goliaths on uh in

  88. the valley with me, but don't worry,

  89. I've got God on my side, and I will

  90. conquer this Goliath of the suitcase.

  91. And I and so I I come in with this

  92. attitude and I already guys I was so

  93. amped because I already had one outfit

  94. picked out prior I was wearing it

  95. earlier and I was like I'm going to wear

  96. this outfit to CNN and that it's like

  97. pre like so I set it aside. I was like

  98. I'm on a good start. I look back in my

  99. closet and I go

  100. and I have no clue where to start. And

  101. so I I start as I go through and then

  102. it's just it's this slippery slope. I

  103. it's bad. I will like turn around and

  104. I'll trip on the shoe that I had just

  105. set out. I will uh set out outfits and

  106. I'm like that shirt goes with two pants.

  107. I can't wear two pairs of pants. What am

  108. I doing? Why? How many pairs of shoes do

  109. I need to do? Those shoes go with that

  110. outfit. Does like I I don't know how to

  111. do any of this. I'm not sure if that

  112. looks good. I don't know how to put this

  113. together. I don't want to show up and

  114. like I got I got a lot of friends here

  115. and I don't want to show up and they're

  116. like, "Oh, hey Drew. Interesting choice

  117. today, right? Like I only see him once a

  118. year some of them." And so I'm like,

  119. "Man, I I" And so I just slid down this.

  120. It was terrible. I fully gave in. My

  121. heart was like a mess. I was I was a

  122. disaster. Morgan's sitting there and

  123. she's like, "We I I got an errand to

  124. run. It's late. Would you be able to

  125. come with me?" And I'm like, "Yes, I'll

  126. come. Hold on." I'm just

  127. I'm just staring at the suitcase like

  128. something's magically going to fill up

  129. inside of it. And it's just going to and

  130. I don't know what I'm doing. And so

  131. eventually she takes a bath. I finish

  132. up. I go and I just take a second and I

  133. go downstairs. And I didn't need

  134. anything downstairs. I just went

  135. downstairs to get away just to pray. And

  136. I'm like, "I did it. I took down

  137. Goliath. I felt like he took out my left

  138. leg, but at the same time I took him

  139. down, right? Like I kind So I came back

  140. up to the bedroom ready and filled with

  141. joy and I'm like, I have been restored.

  142. Amen. And then I was like, all right,

  143. babe. I'm ready to go on that errand.

  144. She's like, it is 10:30. I am not going

    Isaiah 10:30

  145. on that errand anymore. It is too late.

  146. AND I'M LIKE,

  147. OH MAN, WHAT'S GOING RIGHT? AND I GOT

  148. RIGHT BACK DOWN TO where I was five

  149. minutes prior. Man, I need Jesus. Guys,

  150. that's a little insight into my mind.

  151. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that uh it's just

  152. my my heart. It's so easy. Usually I can

  153. overcome this, but sometimes there's

  154. Goliaths in the way, right? And

  155. sometimes I got I got these these

  156. weaknesses and it's outfits and it's

  157. packing and the suitcases and I hate

  158. them. Anyway, so uh I need help. I

  159. regularly, this is the whole picture of

  160. restoration, of getting moments when I'm

  161. like, the day is great, but I'm rooted

  162. in Christ. The day is terrible. One

  163. conversation, one bad thing may happen

  164. and it may lead me into this spiral,

  165. right? All of our hearts can do this.

  166. And instead of following where my

  167. heart's going, I am asking the Lord to

  168. fill me, to satisfy me, to fulfill me.

  169. And that's what we're talking about

  170. today as we talk about green pastures

  171. and still waters, reading in Psalm 23.

  172. We're in a series right now going

  173. through this uh this chapter, and it's

  174. so powerful. Uh it is if you missed last

  175. week, it's a great start to be able to

  176. help get the foundation going. Check it

  177. out online. But one of our challenges is

  178. to have memorized

  179. Psalm 23

  180. on your own to be able to carry it in

  181. your heart to be able to keep it at all

  182. times so that I don't need to open up my

  183. Bible in order to get the truth of the

  184. words of scripture. So, just outside the

  185. doors, we've got a whole bunch of these

  186. printouts, and it'll be able to give you

  187. a an opportunity. You can use this, take

  188. this home, put it in your car, rehearse

  189. it, recite it as you are driving, put it

  190. in your on your bedroom, uh, your

  191. bathroom mirror so you can start

  192. practicing it. But what we're going to

  193. do today, we're going to read it out

  194. loud. So, can we stand up? We're going

  195. to read this together as we're getting

  196. this thing in our heart. We're getting

  197. this in our heart. So, go ahead. Can we

  198. pull up Psalm 23:es 1-6? Whole chapter

  199. right there. All right, read it with me

  200. out loud. The Lord is my shepherd. I

  201. shall not want. He makes me lie down in

  202. green pastures. He leads me beside still

  203. waters. He restores my soul. He leads me

  204. in paths of righteousness for his name's

  205. sake. Even though I walk through the

  206. valley of the shadow of death, I will

  207. fear no evil, for you are with me. Your

  208. rod and your staff, they comfort me. You

  209. prepare a table before me in the

  210. presence of my enemies. You anoint my

  211. head with oil. My cup overflows.

  212. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow

  213. me all the days of my life, and I shall

  214. dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  215. Amen. Amen. Come on, we can be seated.

  216. Let that minister to your heart.

  217. Today, we're going to be Last week, we

  218. really just focused on like five words.

  219. The Lord is my shepherd. We're going to

  220. hit a little bit more today. We're going

  221. to talk about uh verses really verses 1

  222. through3 and continuing to build on what

  223. this means. Verses 1 through three

  224. continues after the Lord is my shepherd.

  225. Can we pull it up? I shall not want. He

  226. makes me lie down in green pastures. He

  227. leads me beside still waters. He

  228. restores my soul.

  229. And it starts off,

  230. I shall not want. Did that confuse

  231. anybody first time you read this? The

  232. Lord is my shepherd. I don't want him.

  233. That's how I first understood it when I

  234. first heard this passage years ago when

  235. I was a kid. And I was like, I am so

  236. confused. I don't know why he's saying

  237. this. It's kind of like uh I I always

  238. wondered why in our God is an awesome

  239. God, if you know that old hymn, why we'd

  240. call God's power dumb power.

  241. because it says our God is an awesome

  242. God. He reigns in on heaven above with

  243. wiz dumb power and love our God. I'm

  244. like why are we saying that? Like that's

  245. not that doesn't make sense. As you dive

  246. into this, the reality is is that I

  247. shall not want begin to set up sets up

  248. this next section of what we're covering

  249. today. Verse two and the beginning of

  250. verse three. And it's this idea of like

  251. I shall not lack.

  252. I do not I I I have no lack because the

  253. Lord is my shepherd.

  254. And this is true.

  255. But

  256. if you look at David,

  257. there's not really a season of his life

  258. that this makes sense as a statement. He

  259. is either a shepherd that lacks a lot

  260. and can only have what he can carry in

  261. his sack with him or

  262. he is running from a king who's trying

  263. to kill him

  264. and he's lacking in shelter. He's living

  265. in caves. He is in in a place where he

  266. has nothing and just all these all these

  267. other nothing misfit people begin to

  268. come and crowd around him and he's like

  269. man I got I don't know what's happening

  270. either that or he's king

  271. and it's like kind of silly to say like

  272. I have I I I lack nothing's like well

  273. duh not because of God but because you

  274. literally own everything in the kingdom

  275. so I think you're just fine. It's almost

  276. silly for him to highlight that and to

  277. correlate that with a shepherd. Now, the

  278. reality is is that this is this is not

  279. necessarily I I shall not want, I shall

  280. not lack. It's a little bit more like I

  281. need nothing else. I'm fully content.

  282. I'm fully satisfied. I'm completely

  283. fulfilled

  284. with that first five words.

  285. The Lord is my shepherd.

  286. There is nothing else that my heart

  287. covets after.

  288. There is nothing else that I am striving

  289. to achieve.

  290. It is only this one thing I ask and this

  291. I shall seek is to dwell in the house of

  292. the Lord all the days of my life. This

  293. is what I shall not want means. Yet

  294. here's the reality.

  295. How often do my prayers

  296. sound like the Lord is my shepherd I

  297. shall not want but my heart is the Lord

  298. is my shepherd SO HERE'S THE THINGS I

  299. want God

  300. right how MUCH HOW MANY TIMES ARE OUR

  301. PRAYERS God this and then this and then

  302. this and then this my dog has a has a

  303. bad foot and my my my knee's been

  304. hurting me and I got this big thing

  305. going on at work at the end of the week

  306. and I got to get help with her. Help me,

  307. God. Help me with this. Help me with

  308. this. Help my kid. They are crazy. Help

  309. my parents. They're nuts. My in-laws,

  310. take them out. I DON'T KNOW WHAT. LIKE,

  311. I GOT ALL THESE REQUESTS THAT I've got

  312. right for God. We got all these things

  313. that we're asking to God. And instead

  314. of going, I have you.

  315. I have no other needs.

  316. I'm fully satisfied with you. See, lack,

  317. living in lack was the majority of

  318. David's life. Living in lack was the

  319. majority in in in earthly lack was the

  320. majority of those who were closest to

  321. Christ. The Apostle Paul is regularly

  322. beaten and imprisoned and ashamed and

  323. kicked out of towns and all this. And

  324. and he says in Philippians 4, he says,"I

  325. know what it is to be in need. And I

  326. know what it is to have plenty. I have

  327. learned the secret of being content in

  328. any and every situation, whether

  329. well-fed or hungry, whether living in

  330. plenty or in want.

  331. These are the all things that I can do

  332. through Christ who gives me strength.

  333. It's I need nothing else. And I want God

  334. to be convinced of that by the way I I

  335. seek him in prayer

  336. that I have desires. He wants to know

  337. those desires. I have wants. I have

  338. needs. I have things. But there are

  339. requests laid at the feet of God instead

  340. of demands to the genie in a bottle. I

  341. need you to do this. I want this. I want

  342. this. I want this. And my heart's not

  343. attached. My heart's more attached to

  344. those than it is to the Lord.

  345. got to fix this inside of me. And so we

  346. see that the the good shepherd, my

  347. prayer is that all of us would be able

  348. to echo this heart posture. The good

  349. shepherd fulfills

  350. and satisfies me.

  351. I'm fully satisfied and made content

  352. in him. In him alone.

  353. And see the shepherd satisfies by a few

  354. things that we see in this passage. We s

  355. we see that the shepherd satisfies first

  356. by his provision.

  357. He sh he satisfies us by his provision.

  358. We see this in uh verse three where it

  359. says he makes me or verse two he says he

  360. makes me lie down in green pastures. He

  361. leads me beside still waters. Now this

  362. is something really interesting because

  363. if you look at the land that David was

  364. writing about as he is writing this as

  365. he was a shepherd himself where did he

  366. shepherd it looks like we got a couple

  367. pictures here of what it looks like in

  368. the Palestinian wilderness

  369. and if it is it's a lot

  370. it is a lot of brown

  371. it is a lot of dead it's a lot of sand

  372. it's a lot of dirt. And if you see a

  373. little bit, you can like, oh, I can kind

  374. of make out some trees and some shrubs.

  375. We got another picture here. It's a

  376. little closer up. And you can see, oh,

  377. okay. Yeah, there is some some grass,

  378. but the side of that hill

  379. may be the green pasture

  380. that you're being led to.

  381. It may be that like that's what that's

  382. what it's like. The shepherd

  383. has to lead the sheep to green pastures.

  384. And it's really interesting because

  385. they'd go, this is why the shepherd

  386. would lead them to a hillside

  387. and they got like a day or two before

  388. they got to go to the next one and they

  389. got to find a new spot

  390. or because they have eaten it down. If

  391. they keep on going, it won't have green

  392. grass for them the next time that they

  393. come.

  394. And so they they have to keep on moving

  395. from hillside to hillside, from pasture

  396. to pasture.

  397. And they are it it's the reality is that

  398. the shepherd, a bad shepherd

  399. says, "If you want to just stay where

  400. you're at, if you don't want to grow, if

  401. you don't want to find new pastures, if

  402. you want don't want to take on new land,

  403. that's fine. Just stay where you're at.

  404. Just stay exactly where you are. You

  405. don't need to grow. You don't need to be

  406. formed. You don't need to be changed.

  407. You have made it. You've arrived. You're

  408. at the green pasture. Stay there. The

  409. bad shepherd lets the sheep then feed

  410. and graze on that until there's nothing

  411. but dirt and they have actually

  412. destroyed the entire field.

  413. And it will not produce grass and and

  414. and and good things again unless it is

  415. stewarded by a good shepherd again.

  416. The good shepherd says, "That was great.

  417. We've had a day. We've had a day to be

  418. able to stand and live in this good

  419. place. I know all the good is not done

  420. here, but I want us to keep on moving.

  421. God's got more growth for you right now

  422. than we are submitting to yet. He's got

  423. more for you. He's got a new pasture he

  424. wants to lead you to. He's got a new

  425. hill he wants you to conquer. He's got

  426. new things for you. And I've got to

  427. listen to him to see where he's saying,

  428. "I KNOW YOU MAY FEEL LIKE IT'S GOOD

  429. RIGHT NOW, BUT IT'S NOT GOING TO STAY

  430. GOOD. I WANT TO MOVE WITH YOU TO THE

  431. NEXT PLACE. WILL YOU FOLLOW me

  432. even if it's not to the point where my

  433. pain is so high that I'm willing to move

  434. on because I'm like, "Ah, yeah, it ain't

  435. that good anymore." And he's like, "I've

  436. been saying that. I've been trying to

  437. get your attention on that for a while.

  438. I've been whistling. Come on. Come on

  439. sheep, let's go. Let's go. He is leading

  440. us to green pastures.

  441. But he also

  442. leads me to still waters. Now, what is

  443. this? This is interesting because sheep

  444. are incredibly timid, scared creatures.

  445. They will not, for whatever reason, I

  446. cannot figure out why. I've tried to do

  447. the study. I've tried to use a I don't

  448. know why. Why sheep AI doesn't know why

  449. sheep will not eat from moving lapping

  450. water. If the water has any babbling

  451. brook to it, they won't take it. In

  452. fact, there will be a moving water or

  453. river that's got a just a little bit of

  454. wave, a little bit of roll to it, and

  455. they will choose the muddy infested

  456. puddle of dirt and urine, and they will

  457. choose to drink that instead of the

  458. living water right beside them.

  459. In fact, the same thing happens with the

  460. green pastures. If a shepherd doesn't

  461. move them, they will choose to then get

  462. not the good nutritious part of the

  463. grass and the plants and the shrubs.

  464. They'll then start to chew on sticks.

  465. They'll then start to dig with their

  466. teeth in the dirt and get the roots out

  467. of the grass and they'll just try to

  468. whatever can fill their stomach. And how

  469. often do we do the same thing? We look

  470. for something to fulfill me. I'm looking

  471. for something, a cheap version of love,

  472. a cheap version of affirmation. And the

  473. Lord's like, THE REAL THING IS RIGHT

  474. HERE.

  475. Seek me and you won't need and to want

  476. anything else.

  477. See, there is

  478. cheap versions, cheap attention that we

  479. can seek after instead of real love. We

  480. seek cheap things instead of the real

  481. thing. Cheap numbing

  482. instead of real healing.

  483. Cheap avoidance

  484. instead of real victory and restoration.

  485. Cheap relational resolution

  486. instead of real relational connection.

  487. Ever been in an argument and just gone,

  488. "Fine, whatever."

  489. Right? Is the give up? Is the whatever.

  490. I'm just trying to get to resolution.

  491. That's it. Whatever. I don't agree with

  492. you. I don't even like you right now.

  493. But that's where I'm at. Done. Right. I

  494. can be done. So cheap resolution instead

  495. of real connection. Cheap affirmation

  496. instead of real glory. I want you to

  497. affirm me instead of giving the true

  498. glory, honor, and praise to the one who

  499. deserves it. Oh, there's so many cheap

  500. things. There's so many puddles of all

  501. but it's still water. And here's the

  502. problem. Most still water if it's not

  503. moving is infested.

  504. It's infested with larvae and with and

  505. and with parasites and with sickness and

  506. with nasty and with bad and germs and

  507. and all this stuff and it's terrible.

  508. And so a shepherd, here's the

  509. interesting thing, the shepherd

  510. provides. In fact, many shepherds, most

  511. of the green pastures and the still

  512. waters that are provided are provided by

  513. the shepherd himself. A shepherd takes

  514. lots of care to build irrigation

  515. to dig portions of a of a river so that

  516. there will be a little pool over here

  517. that it can keep. It can be still, but

  518. it can still be renewed. It can be

  519. flowed with it with the river and the

  520. brook that is there so the sheep can

  521. gather around and can drink. Here's the

  522. thing. God wants you to be fed. God

  523. wants you to hunger and thirst for

  524. righteousness. And in the same way, he

  525. goes, "I know. I want you to, but I also

  526. know that all you poor you, you can't

  527. feed it off the meat that I have for

  528. you. And so, I'm going to give it to

  529. you. Not only what you need, but in the

  530. way you need it.

  531. In the way that he will that I will hear

  532. his word. He will speak to me.

  533. One of the deepest, most powerful

  534. revelations that God gave me as we were

  535. getting ready to plant a church is we

  536. didn't even know if we would before we

  537. exited and and and left our jobs. One of

  538. the deepest things that God spoke to me

  539. is my ability to speak is greater than

  540. your inability to hear. And my fear was

  541. this place of God, what if I miss it?

  542. What if I'm listening but I miss it? and

  543. I'm trying but I fail. And he says, I'm

  544. better at communicating to your deafness

  545. than you know. I will make myself clear.

  546. Listen. Stay on your knees. Seek him.

  547. Pursue him. Listen for his voice. Look

  548. at the c the things that the

  549. confirmations that the world is giving

  550. all around. Listen. His ability to speak

  551. is greater than your inability to hear.

  552. Amen. Amen.

  553. >> Come on. Come on. Let's go, y'all. I'm

  554. preaching better than that. Let's go.

  555. >> This is it. This is it. He provides the

  556. living water to our thirsty souls. Then

  557. third, we'll go into here. His pre or

  558. second, what we see what the shepherd

  559. provides is he provides his provision

  560. and his presence. Here's something

  561. interesting. This is so interesting.

  562. If a sheep, he says, it makes me lie

  563. down in green pastures.

  564. Sheep

  565. are really resistant to lying down.

  566. And this is actually this is really

  567. interesting. There's uh a shepherd says

  568. that there's four things that a sheep

  569. needs to have

  570. in order to actually lie down. the

  571. things that a sheep needs. They need to

  572. be free from fear.

  573. They need to make sure even if if

  574. there's anything if there's anything

  575. that might look scary, if there's

  576. anything that I'm unsure of what's on

  577. the other side of that bush, I'm unsure

  578. of what's going on around me. I got to

  579. make sure that I am safe. They need to

  580. be free from fear. They need to be free

  581. from pests. There's all these like

  582. biting nets and gut stuff that they'll

  583. they'll get when they're drinking from

  584. this water or when they're around all

  585. this shrubbery and all this stuff that

  586. that and and this is they need to be

  587. free from that or else they're

  588. constantly antsy and they're not able to

  589. lay down. They need to be free from

  590. hunger. A sheep does not lay down until

  591. they are full.

  592. Otherwise, they're constantly grazing.

  593. They're constantly looking for that next

  594. thing. Where am I going to be fed? Where

  595. am I? Even if it's a cheap something, I

  596. just got to fill my stomach. And then

  597. they got to be free from tension.

  598. Within a flock, you will find that there

  599. is there's a hierarchy just like every

  600. other group. You'll see it's the it's

  601. the pecking order, right? It's the

  602. alpha. You see this in lots of different

  603. animals that herd and group together.

  604. And it their same thing happens in a

  605. flock, but usually the the lead is the

  606. biggest, fattest, strongest you, the the

  607. the the lady sheep that just likes to

  608. push her weight around and she'll be a

  609. jerk to all the other sheep and she'll

  610. be like, "That's my grass, so you were

  611. saying over there. I know, but now this

  612. is mine." And they got all these

  613. tension. And if I feel this tension of

  614. of the things that going on around me

  615. within the flock, within the people

  616. around me, how many of y'all know when I

  617. feel someone's EYES BURNING ON THE BACK

  618. OF MY HEAD, IT'S hard to really dive

  619. into worship. It's hard to really

  620. receive from the word. It's until I

  621. actually let that go.

  622. Now, here's the interesting thing is a

  623. is a shepherd can do things to help with

  624. all of these, but a sheep does not feel

  625. fully free from fear, pests, hunger, and

  626. turmoil

  627. until they see the shepherd.

  628. And they can see even if the shepherd's

  629. not with them, they can see from far

  630. away

  631. that he's coming.

  632. And they'll see the shepherd's staff.

  633. And the staff is the thing that he would

  634. use to guide and to reach out and to

  635. help point them in the right direction

  636. and guide them away from the the the

  637. sick waters and toward the good still

  638. waters. to guide them away from the

  639. sheep that's in a bad mood that I don't

  640. want you little lamb to get over by

  641. them. You got to stay over here by me.

  642. To correct the one that needs to be

  643. guided away from all the other sheep

  644. that they're trying to cause problems

  645. with. When I see the shepherd, I can be

  646. at peace. His presence brings me peace.

  647. When there's an enemy around, the sheep

  648. will gather around the shepherd. They'll

  649. gather in nice and tight right around

  650. him. I need to be close. I need to stick

  651. with his presence. I need to be guarded

  652. and guided by him. I don't know what to

  653. do in this situation, so I'm going to

  654. get a little bit closer.

  655. And then we see

  656. the last thing that the shepherd

  657. satisfies us with. It's by his

  658. provision, his presence, and his

  659. restoration.

  660. See, there's

  661. just like you guys are probably a lot

  662. holier than I am, but I need his

  663. restoration

  664. all the time.

  665. All the time. I'm always leading myself

  666. in a in a wrong direction. I always

  667. think I'm following him and then I'm

  668. actually going in my own direction. The

  669. the DL Moody is asked, "Why are you

  670. always asking for the Holy Spirit to

  671. fill you?" And he says, "Because I

  672. leak." And it's this same picture. I

  673. spend time with Jesus in the morning and

  674. then by the afternoon it's like there's

  675. a lot of Drew involved and I don't like

  676. it. I need less of me, more of you and

  677. I've got to I got to get back to this

  678. place. He restores

  679. my

  680. soul.

  681. He restores my soul. I'm always drifting

  682. and in constant need of restoration.

  683. This is where John 10:14 Jesus says, "I

    John 10:14

  684. am the good shepherd."

  685. He says, "I know my own and my own know

  686. me." It's this closeness to his

  687. presence. It's this closeness to his

  688. comfort. It's this closeness to him that

  689. I know where to go when I'm facing the

  690. giants of my life. Whether my giant is

  691. as dumb as packing up my suitcase or as

  692. extreme as the diagnosis that I just got

  693. or the mortgage that's coming up that I

  694. don't know how I'm going to pay or

  695. whatever it may be. Whatever your giant

  696. is, whatever the thing is that's giving

  697. you this turmoil and this fear and this

  698. anxiety, he will restore my soul. See,

  699. there's moments that I can have where

  700. life is chaos. And yet, I just feel this

  701. peace.

  702. I feel this shalom. I feel this ease and

  703. it doesn't seem to be hitting in the

  704. same way that it has. Yet, there's other

  705. times in my life where a lot's going

  706. right and for some reason, I don't know

  707. why, but that little thing just gets me

  708. so hard and DEEP AND JUST

  709. AND I DON'T KNOW why I'm so anxious. I'm

  710. so scared. I'm so upset. I'm so whatever

  711. it may be about this little thing. I

  712. know it's not a big deal, but it

  713. certainly feels like one. It's so easy

  714. and yet I always need to come back to

  715. his restoration.

  716. There's this poem written by Marsha

  717. Horno

  718. and it's the antithesis

  719. of Psalm 23 and I just think it's so

  720. beautiful

  721. and how it highlights the reality of the

  722. psalm that we usually live.

  723. Can we pull that up?

  724. The antithesis of Psalm 23. It starts

  725. off,

  726. it should be a long one. Psalm 23 there.

  727. No. Psalm 23 antithesis. It should say

  728. at the top. It's a long one towards the

  729. end of the slides. I'll start reading.

  730. The clock is my dictator.

  731. I shall not rest. It makes me lie down

  732. only when exhausted. It leads me into

  733. deep depression. It hounds my soul. It

  734. leads me in circles of frenzy for

  735. activities sake. Even though I run

  736. frantically from task to task, I will

  737. never get it all done. For my ideal is

  738. with me. Deadlines and my need for

  739. approval, they drive me. They demand

  740. performance from me beyond the limits of

  741. my schedule. They anoint my head with

  742. migraines.

  743. My inbox overflows.

  744. Surely fatigue and time pressures shall

  745. follow me all the days of my life,

  746. and I will dwell in the bonds of

  747. frustration

  748. forever.

  749. How many of you are honest go, "My life

  750. looks a lot more like that than like

  751. Psalm 23." anybody? Now the reality is

  752. is that the peace and the guidance of

  753. the shepherd

  754. is accessible in every season.

  755. It's not how many tasks you are given

  756. from your from your work. It's not how

  757. hard your job is. It is how deeply I am

  758. tied in and how near I am to the

  759. presence of this shepherd.

  760. Let him restore your soul. Let him be

  761. your rest. Let him satisfy you. Let him

  762. be your food and your drink. Be

  763. satisfied. Hunger and thirst for him.

  764. And I want I I just I've found this and

  765. I want you to be able to carry this with

  766. you. The presence of the shepherd

  767. changes everything.

  768. He wants you right here. He wants to be

  769. with you right now.

  770. He fulfills

  771. and he satisfies me. This is what I

  772. shall not want means.

  773. I trust in him to lead me to the next

  774. place. I trust in him to provide for me

  775. the the the wisdom and the in the

  776. knowledge and the goodness that I need

  777. to be able to quench my thirsty soul. I

  778. trust in him to restore me and to bring

  779. me back into a peace, into a unity and

  780. shalom. It's only found in him.

  781. I love this in uh Isaiah 55

  782. 1-2.

  783. It says, "Come everyone who thirsts,

  784. come to the waters.

  785. He who has no money,

  786. come buy and eat.

  787. Come buy wine and milk without money and

  788. without price. Why do you spend your

  789. money for that which is not bread?

  790. Why do you seek the grass and the roots

  791. and the sticks and the twigs and the

  792. dirt to fill your stomach? Why do you

  793. spend your money for that which is not

  794. bread and your labor for that which does

  795. not satisfy?

  796. Listen diligently to me.

  797. Eat what is good.

  798. Delight yourselves in rich food.

  799. This is all about the true food that is

  800. found in the presence of the Lord.

  801. Revelation chapter 7 says it this way.

    Revelation 7 chapter mention

  802. It says, "Therefore, they are before the

  803. throne of God and serve him day and

  804. night in his temple. And he who sits on

  805. the throne will shelter them with his

  806. presence. They shall hunger no more.

  807. neither thirst anymore. The sun shall

  808. not strike them, nor any scorching heat.

  809. For the lamb in the midst of the throne

  810. will be their shepherd,

  811. and he will guide them to springs of

  812. living water. And God will wipe away

  813. every tear from their eyes. This is what

  814. it's like to be led by the shepherd, to

  815. trust in him wherever he's going. And

  816. I've got some great news for you. I've

  817. got some great news. When I look at that

  818. statement, I shall not want, I want you

  819. to know.

  820. You are not enough. Your ability to find

  821. sustenance is not enough. Your ability

  822. to strengthen and cur up your loins and

  823. strengthen yourself and take on the next

  824. day is not enough.

  825. And we need I desperately need a

  826. shepherd to guide me. I desperately need

  827. a flock to surround me. I desperately

  828. need to be part of this kingdom and to

  829. trust that he fully satisfies and

  830. restores me. Can we stand up in here?

  831. When we're overwhelmed with life,

  832. responsibilities, and failures, the

  833. world says, "Here are five simple tricks

  834. to become enough."

  835. Yet, scripture reveals you failed, and

  836. you will fail again. No matter how hard

  837. you try, no matter how much you do, no

  838. matter what you accomplish, you will

  839. finish this life and meet God and find

  840. out

  841. that your actions weren't enough,

  842. but his were.

  843. But the good shepherd,

  844. he's the only one who I can lean on.

  845. He's the only one who I can come to.

  846. When I follow this good shepherd and I

  847. see his staff and I let him guide me to

  848. green pastures and still waters, I can

  849. be fully satisfied in Christ alone.

  850. Amen.

  851. So, what I want to do, I just want to

  852. take a second here. We're just going to

  853. take a couple minutes and I want to take

  854. some time

  855. for communion.

  856. Not the bread and the drink right now.

  857. This is to commune, to be a part of a

  858. community, to be a part of of connection

  859. with him. See, shephering was an

  860. incredibly lonely business.

  861. Is the shepherd sometimes they jump in

  862. with some other shepherds and combined

  863. flocks so they weren't totally alone.

  864. But man, it's the shepherd and a a group

  865. of sheep. And there's this powerful deep

  866. unspoken connection that happens between

  867. the shepherd and the sheep and this deep

  868. love and how deeply the Lord wants to be

  869. with you right now. He says, "Don't come

  870. to me with all your wants.

  871. Sometimes I just want you."

  872. Can we take some time to just commune

  873. and just to be with him? just to sit at

  874. his feet, just to draw near to him as

  875. his children, as his sheep, as his

  876. flock, as those who are here. So, what I

  877. want to do is I just want to step in a

  878. couple minutes of worship here. And I

  879. want you to find wherever you need to

  880. go. If you want to come up to the altar,

  881. come on up to the altar. If you want to

  882. step off to the side and hit your knees,

  883. step off to the side. Whatever you want

  884. to do, I want us to find some time. Get

  885. in a posture of communion and full

  886. consecration. I am fully yours. Close

  887. your eyes. No one else is here. It's me

  888. and the Lord. Me and my shepherd. And I

  889. want nothing else.

  890. Jesus, I pray

  891. that we would be satisfied.

  892. We would be made whole and find that the

  893. only thing that truly satisfies us, that

  894. truly fulfills us, that actually lasts,

  895. living water that causes us to never

  896. thirst again. Living water that causes

  897. for us to never have to keep searching

  898. for that next thing. the next thing that

  899. makes us sick, the next thing that

  900. doesn't fulfill, the next thing that

  901. actually hurts us. Lord, we go to you

  902. and you alone. We trust in you and your

  903. salvation and your fulfillment in the

  904. mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

  905. your presence.

  906. I just want to sit here at your feet.

  907. Yes. Caught up in this holy.

  908. >> Don't miss this. Don't miss this. I

  909. never want to leave.

  910. right here.

  911. >> Oh, I'm not here for blessings.

  912. All the other needs set him aside.

  913. >> Jesus, you don't owe me anything

  914. more than anything

  915. that you can do.

  916. >> What is your want?

  917. >> I just want you. Yes, Lord. The one

  918. thing, one thing,

  919. I'm sorry.

  920. When I've just gone through the motions,

  921. I'm sorry

  922. when I sing another song. Take me back

  923. to where we started.

  924. I open my heart.

  925. >> He's right here. He's with you already.

  926. He's listening. He's by your side. He is

  927. right here. Come on. Do not doubt it.

  928. >> I'm sorry.

  929. And I've come with my agenda.

  930. I'm sorry.

  931. I forgot that you're enough.

  932. Take me back to where we started.

  933. I open up my heart to you.

  934. Come to full yours.

  935. Come to be your presence.

  936. I just want to see you at your feet.

  937. God

  938. only you satisfied.

  939. I'm filled with you. your spirit, your

  940. knowledge, your presence, your

  941. provision. Lord,

  942. he gives. He gives.

  943. He provides.

  944. We seek him first.

  945. Not just one.

  946. Yeah.

  947. Nothing else. Yes. Come on. Say it.

  948. >> Nothing else.

  949. >> Come on.

  950. Nothing else will do.

  951. >> What else will satisfy

  952. you?

  953. >> What do you need? What do you need to

  954. lay at his feet?

  955. What are the other

  956. crunches that you're using to satisfy

  957. your thirsty soul? To satisfy your needs

  958. for affirmation, to satisfy your needs

  959. to numb this pain. What do you need to

  960. lay his feet? And I got nothing else.

  961. I'm sending it all down. I'm giving it

  962. all to you all right here, right now.

  963. Any

  964. we

  965. and you alone are you

  966. nothing else.

  967. Father God, I just pray in this place,

  968. Lord, right here, right now, may we lay

  969. aside all the other things. May we lay

  970. aside all our other all our other

  971. grievances, all the things in our hearts

  972. and in our lives that grieve your spirit

  973. and we lean in to you.

  974. We are satisfied and fulfilled

  975. by you.

  976. I thank you father.

  977. I thank you, Father,

  978. that when we, you promise, when we come

  979. near to you, when we repent, when we

  980. turn back towards you,

  981. when we seek you

  982. humbly and with our whole heart,

  983. I know I will find you.

  984. When I knock,

  985. I know you will open that door.

  986. When I ask, I know you will answer.

  987. I thank you that your presence is right

  988. here. I thank you that your voice is

  989. right here. I thank you that your

  990. satisfaction and your fulfillment is

  991. offered right before us right now.

  992. Would you

  993. make us lie down, find the peace, set

  994. all our worries aside, make us lie down

  995. in green pastures in your provision.

  996. Would you make us, would you lead us to

  997. still waters, to places that have

  998. satisfied us, our thirsty, everlonging

  999. soul, that we can rest in your presence,

1000. in your provision, and your restoration.

1001. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray.
