  2. >> I want to say thank you. I want to say

  3. something real quick to the fathers in

  4. this room as well.

  5. Did you know a study found that

  6. that a fathers you may have heard I have

  7. quoted this before

  8. but if a father attends church and leads

  9. his family spiritually

  10. there's there's there's a study done a

  11. while back that talks about if a father

  12. attends but the mother doesn't

  13. about 44% of the children will grow up

  14. to be regular church goers themselves.

  15. If the mother attends regularly but the

  16. father does not that number at that time

  17. dropped to 2%

  18. men

  19. your spiritual walk matters.

  20. I thank you for the men in this room men

  21. online chasing the Lord thank you for

  22. doing this. It matters. Come on. Can we

  23. praise the Lord?

  24. >> [applause]

  25. >> But I want to say this if both attend

  26. the number jumps to 74%

  27. that is what we're looking for. Come on.

  28. Amen.

  29. >> [applause]

  30. >> So I want to do a real quick. I just

  31. want to do a blessing over the fathers

  32. in the room real quick. So if you are a

  33. father would you just hold at least one

  34. hand up maybe two and receive this

  35. blessing Heavenly Father. I thank you so

  36. much for you what you have done, how you

  37. have filled, how you have equipped each

  38. man in this room to uniquely give out

  39. something that you have created for

  40. everyone in this world to receive that

  41. is supposed to uniquely come from men.

  42. Father God, I pray a blessing over each

  43. one. Would you fill the men in this room

  44. with your spirit? Would you fill the men

  45. in this room with a hunger for you? With

  46. a humility to chase you, and would you

  47. allow for these men to not only be

  48. blessed, but to be a blessing. Father

  49. God, we praise you. Your favor and your

  50. blessing fall on each one. In Jesus'

  51. mighty name we pray.

  52. Amen. Amen. Uh we are doing a summer

  53. lean in, and that means that we are

  54. going to be doing a time to prepare our

  55. hearts for the message, to prepare our

  56. hearts for what God is doing. And as we

  57. are going through a reading plan and

  58. doing our summer challenge of coming

  59. every single week for our summer lean

  60. in. Uh if you're not able to make it

  61. with vacations, join us online live.

  62. Feel free. Uh but what we're going to do

  63. is we're going to stand up and we're

  64. going to do a commitment prayer

  65. together. Okay? So,

  66. uh I want to do this a little bit

  67. differently.

  68. I want to I want to repeat. I'll lead

  69. it. That way you guys don't have to read

  70. if you don't want to. You can close your

  71. eyes and you can just repeat after me.

  72. But I just want to encourage you guys to

  73. allow for this to be a moment of prayer,

  74. of commitment, and surrender to the

  75. Lord. So, repeat after me. Here I am.

  76. >> Here I am.

  77. >> All of me.

  78. >> I prepare my heart.

  79. >> I prepare

  80. my heart.

  81. >> Ready to receive

  82. >> what you have for me

  83. >> and to give what I have for you.

  84. >> I will worship you with my whole heart.

  85. >> I will worship you with

  86. my whole heart.

  87. >> Seek you with my full attention.

  88. >> Seek you

  89. And follow you with my best effort.

  90. I am leaning in.

  91. Eagerly anticipating.

  92. How you will shape my soul.

  93. And send my life.

  94. As your blessing.

  95. To the world.

  96. Amen. Amen. You can be seated. Thank you

  97. guys.

  98. Yes, this is

  99. this is our commitment guys. And I I

  100. really believe that getting your

  101. spiritual walk in order.

  102. Is the first brick that needs to be

  103. laid. Of the foundation of a solid house

  104. that you are building for your life.

  105. It is the way that everything else will

  106. be built off of that. Matthew 6:33 says

    Matthew 6:33

  107. seek first his kingdom and his

  108. righteousness. And everything else all

  109. your other worries all your other

  110. concerns will be added. Well that will

  111. that will follow through but I walk

  112. through the doorway. I first lay the

  113. foundation of my spiritual walk my

  114. relationship with Jesus has to take

  115. first has to be first and that's why

  116. we're doing this summer leaning.

  117. Because summer time is typically a time

  118. that I drift that schedules move and

  119. change and people start disappearing

  120. from church.

  121. People's walk starts fading and like why

  122. why am I not where I was?

  123. Why what's going on in my spirit? What's

  124. going on? There's a lot of spiritual

  125. attack that happens. If you're feeling

  126. that in your life I want you to know you

  127. are not alone.

  128. The enemy attacks during this season.

  129. This is what he's trying to do. He's

  130. trying to pull you away. Thank you for

  131. continuing to show up. In our summer

  132. linen, we got two challenges. We are

  133. doing a challenge for a Bible reading

  134. plan. Please, please, please jump into

  135. this. We got a QR code actually, you can

  136. even scan to jump in and join us on

  137. this. We are going through the first 50

  138. chapters of Psalms. And so, it's

  139. anywhere from like 5 to 20 verses a day,

  140. sentences a day. And it's just

  141. opportunity to be able to get that to

  142. settle into your heart. There's so much

  143. that we're getting out of this.

  144. Psalm 16:11 actually was one that stood

    Psalms 16:11

  145. out to me from this last week. It says,

  146. "You make known to me the path of life.

  147. In your presence, there is fullness of

  148. joy. At your right hand are pleasures

  149. forevermore."

  150. And it's the same concept that we're

  151. talking about. When I step into his

  152. presence,

  153. all the chaos of the world just

  154. falls away.

  155. The anxiety within me

  156. settles down.

  157. The the the sadness, the depression, the

  158. numbness starts to be wiped away. Your

  159. presence is where I experience true joy.

  160. I can be happy in a lot of different

  161. situations, but I experience true joy,

  162. true peace when I am seeking him, and

  163. especially when I'm doing so with my

  164. brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen.

  165. Amen. So, uh what I want to do is I want

  166. to talk about We've talked about uh

  167. righteous rhythms. We've talked about

  168. making sure that uh you you come back.

  169. Pastor Morgan talked about coming back

  170. to your first love. It was so powerful.

  171. Last week, we talked about humility and

  172. setting God first in every action, and

  173. how humility is kind of this this

  174. doorway to all other virtues. Uh and

  175. then, today, what I want to talk about

  176. is I want I'm going about community.

  177. Community is the strength you don't

  178. have.

  179. When I don't have it within myself,

  180. the reality is is that there may be

  181. things that life hands to you

  182. that is bigger than what you can handle.

  183. That's greater than what you can process

  184. on your own.

  185. That's a mountain that you can't climb

  186. without someone else. And that's where

  187. community comes in. Ecclesiastes 4:12

    Ecclesiastes 4:12

  188. says, "Though one may be

  189. may be overpowered, two can defend

  190. themselves,

  191. but three, a cord of three strands is

  192. not quickly broken."

  193. And what this is talking is talking

  194. about on my own,

  195. things are going to take me over.

  196. If I get a community around me, I will

  197. be much stronger.

  198. But if I do this with I'm pursuing the

  199. Lord and we involve this third party, it

  200. is me, it is the Lord, and it is a

  201. community of people around me, that is a

  202. way that life will not easily be able to

  203. overtake me. Amen.

  204. Amen. And this is where I want for us to

  205. lean in.

  206. To lean into relationships, to lean into

  207. community, cuz the right community is

  208. essential

  209. for a spiritual life set on fire.

  210. And that's what that's what we're doing

  211. with Summer Lean and we just want every

  212. single one of us to be able to take a

  213. step in, to be able to take a step up,

  214. and go, "And man, my spiritual life is

  215. more on fire than it's ever been." And

  216. so we want to give you these tips, we

  217. want to give you these resources for

  218. being able to go, "Holy smokes, these

  219. are some of the greatest ways you can

  220. set your spiritual walk on fire." And I

  221. promise you, a strong community is going

  222. to be part of a spiritual life that is

  223. set on fire.

  224. And that is why we gather here on Sunday

  225. mornings. That is why we gather for on

  226. the first Tuesday of every month at our

  227. our prayer services. And one of the

  228. things we've been doing with our prayer

  229. services over the last year, we've been

  230. doing some tweaks and some shifts just

  231. to be able to help make this the best

  232. possible

  233. uh service that we can have. And it it

  234. is so powerful what God is doing here.

  235. It is a time of worship. It's a time of

  236. community. We have a little message, a

  237. little encouragement, and then we have

  238. opportunity for God to move in ways that

  239. we may not be able to have an

  240. opportunity on Sunday mornings. I love

  241. it because prayer service is not

  242. an expectation

  243. that anybody is is like, oh, I'm a

  244. Christian, so what should I do? I should

  245. go to church on Sunday mornings.

  246. There's never a first Tuesday of the

  247. month like assumption that I put on

  248. myself.

  249. Yet for what we what we're doing is we

  250. want to make sure that this

  251. as we've made some of these changes, I

  252. go, man, this is this is something more

  253. than just what we've been describing it

  254. as. And so we're we're changing this a

  255. little bit. We're changing our prayer

  256. service. We're renaming it to encounter

  257. night.

  258. As a night just to to seek the Lord, to

  259. pursue him, to lean in. And this is

  260. forever. This is we're we're changing

  261. this, and I want to invite you. One of

  262. our goals for our year as our our theme

  263. for the year is lean in. One of our

  264. goals that we have, how do we know if

  265. Collective Church is leaning in?

  266. We want to see us move from about 30 32

  267. people, I think is about what our

  268. average was last year of people at our

  269. prayer service, and we want to see over

  270. 50 as our average for our encounter

  271. nights. So, I want to invite you July

  272. 7th is our next encounter night. Would

  273. you come? Put it on your calendar right

  274. now. Set it on repeat for the first

  275. Tuesday of every single month. It's over

  276. at Kingsway Christian Church just a half

  277. mile away from here. And well, I want to

  278. invite you. I want to encourage you guys

  279. to come. There is nothing like being in

  280. a group of people who really truly want

  281. to seek the Lord and encounter him. So,

  282. would you guys be able to come to that?

  283. Come on. Who wants to jump in on that?

  284. Let's do that.

  285. We're going to lean in.

  286. So, uh one of the passages for this

  287. series is Hebrews chapter 10. And I love

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  288. this passage because it it talks about

  289. let's us hold unswervingly.

  290. I love this this word of this idea of

  291. how easy it is to find when you step

  292. into your relationship with Jesus, it

  293. feels like it swerves a lot.

  294. Right? It's like a new driver.

  295. Anybody behind been behind someone with

  296. that bumper sticker on that says new

  297. driver, please be patient? And you're

  298. like, I'm going to increase my 2-second

  299. distance. I'm going to go maybe 5

  300. seconds cuz I see you hitting the line,

  301. hitting the curb, and then line, and

  302. then curb, and then like, okay, hold on.

  303. I got to keep my There's a There's a lot

  304. of swerving in the same way that happens

  305. when I first start seeking Jesus.

  306. I go, I've given my life TO HIM. WHY?

  307. WHY AM I LIKE I STILL GOT SOME OF THESE

  308. SAME SINS. I still got some of these

  309. same habits. I I said I wanted to quit

  310. this THING AND AND

  311. AH, I DID IT AGAIN. I'M STUCK IN IT

  312. AGAIN. WHAT'S HAPPENING? HOW do I get to

  313. this unswervingly

  314. moving forward? I feel like every day is

  315. a step becoming more like him, and I'm

  316. having fewer and fewer days where I go,

  317. ah, I feel like I regressed in becoming

  318. more like Christ today.

  319. How do I do this?

  320. Well, the author of Hebrews says it

  321. here, "Let us hold unswervingly to the

  322. hope we profess, for he who promised is

  323. faithful.

  324. And let us consider" How do we do this?

  325. "Consider how we may spur one another

  326. toward love and good deeds.

  327. DO NOT GIVE UP meeting together as some

  328. are in the habit of doing,

  329. but encourage one another

  330. all the more as you see the day

  331. approaching." I'll tell you what, I

  332. don't know when Jesus is coming back. I

  333. pray it's so soon. I pray it is, but

  334. here's the reality, I know that we're

  335. closer to the day of Jesus' return

  336. than when this was written.

  337. Our encouragement for each other should

  338. be infinitely stronger.

  339. I want to encourage us today, no matter

  340. how long you have been coming to

  341. Collective, how long you've been a

  342. believer, maybe this is your first

  343. Sunday ever, and you're unsure about

  344. this whole Jesus thing, and someone

  345. dragged you in here, or you're just

  346. curious about what's going on in Millard

  347. North High School on Sunday mornings. I

  348. don't know exactly what got you here

  349. today, but I want to invite you into a

  350. deeper sense of Christian community.

  351. Did you know

  352. we

  353. need relationships,

  354. accountability,

  355. and community if we're ever going to

  356. thrive in life and especially in your

  357. spiritual life.

  358. Here's just in the same way that a a

  359. part of your body, if I remove my

  360. finger,

  361. it will die very quickly apart from my

  362. body. In the same way, I was not

  363. designed to follow Jesus as just two,

  364. but the three-corded strand that is not

  365. quickly broken. It's not just me and

  366. him. It is me, him, and the body of

  367. Christ. If I disconnect myself from the

  368. body of Christ, I'm disconnecting myself

  369. from life.

  370. The reality is is we often underestimate

  371. the impact that how and how much we are

  372. impacted by the people we put ourselves

  373. around.

  374. There's been multiple studies on this

  375. in in social psychology that's been

  376. done. This is in in some of these

  377. studies I found that the single biggest

  378. predictor they looked at people at 50

  379. and then people at 80. And what's the

  380. single greatest predictor of someone's

  381. health at 80 when they are 50 years old?

  382. It was not cholesterol levels, it was

  383. not their their wealth, it was not their

  384. genetics. It was actually how satisfied

  385. they were

  386. in their healthy relationships.

  387. Isn't that incredible?

  388. The greatest indicator of health at 80.

  389. In fact, low social connection

  390. and isolation or isolation had a health

  391. impact equivalent to smoking 15

  392. cigarettes a day or being an alcoholic.

  393. Social isolation showed to be twice as

  394. lethal as a sedentary lifestyle and

  395. clinical obesity.

  396. Isn't that crazy? We were created our

  397. very bodies were designed by God to be a

  398. part of community. But here's the

  399. craziest fact, it's not just about you.

  400. The amazing thing is that it's not just

  401. I get into relationships so that I'm

  402. healthy because there's another study

  403. that showed

  404. that your habits don't just influence

  405. you.

  406. And they don't just influence your

  407. friends.

  408. And they don't just influence your

  409. friends' friends.

  410. Your habits influence your friends'

  411. friends' friends.

  412. Isn't that crazy?

  413. Which means you are influenced by your

  414. friends friends friends.

  415. We see this everybody most people have

  416. had a friend that you've hung out with

  417. and you got a friend group and then

  418. they're like hold on why why I've

  419. noticed that you aren't hanging out with

  420. Sally quite as much. Why not?

  421. Well

  422. I don't Sally's been hanging around with

  423. some people. It's just

  424. I'm I'm not sure about them.

  425. I've noticed how it's changing her and I

  426. notice how it's it then impacts me.

  427. Right that's just like most people have

  428. had that type of conversation been

  429. involved in one way or then or another

  430. in that type of conversation and we

  431. already see the impact of a friend's

  432. friend.

  433. Yet the reality is is that we don't

  434. always see how much that even even the

  435. next layer truly impacts us but it's

  436. crazy. It's not just negative. It's also

  437. positive.

  438. Positive health habits end up increasing

  439. positive health habits in friends

  440. friends

  441. and it continues to influence throughout

  442. those circles.

  443. So your spiritual habits

  444. your own personal pursuit of the Lord

  445. just that no gospel presentation to

  446. other people no standing up and

  447. preaching a sermon no giving them a

  448. verse of the day even without I want you

  449. guys to do that but the reality is is

  450. that just your spiritual habits will

  451. change your friends lives your friends

  452. friends lives and their friends lives as

  453. well. Isn't that amazing?

  454. Your life is impacted deeply by

  455. community. In fact I I looked up on I

  456. don't always use AI but I I asked AI I

  457. said hey what are the benefits of

  458. healthy give me a full list of benefits

  459. of healthy Christian community looking

  460. at these studies and looking at biblical

  461. truth and it listed off 21

  462. different things that it talks about

  463. shared burden bearing, accelerated

  464. spiritual growth, physical long

  465. literally you live longer.

  466. Natural accountability, everything all

  467. the way to healthy friction for

  468. character development.

  469. Having people that are willing to love

  470. me enough to say

  471. I'm worried about you.

  472. I think you need to fix some things. I

  473. think you need to change some things.

  474. And in love, I'm not going to let you

  475. walk out into the busy street of the the

  476. poor decisions that you're making. I'm

  477. going to grab you and turn you around in

  478. love.

  479. That is it is it's incredible what gets

  480. to happen when you are in a healthy

  481. Christian community. We were created for

  482. community, no matter how introverted you

  483. may feel you are.

  484. Often times,

  485. this is not me speaking from me.

  486. This isn't me speaking I'm I'm about as

  487. extroverted as it gets. I took a test

  488. before, I was 93% extroverted.

  489. That's a lot of extroversion before I

  490. need a little lone time, okay?

  491. Uh so, I'm not speaking for me. I'm

  492. talking from some of the most

  493. introverted people that I know and from

  494. my ability to be able to see what God is

  495. what the truths that the Lord is

  496. speaking, but the reality is is that a

  497. lot of people use the I'm an introvert

  498. excuse to isolate and it's actually not

  499. healthy.

  500. We need community. In fact, I would

  501. argue an introvert needs community more

  502. than an extrovert because an extrovert

  503. is always just like trying to get there

  504. and they need depth of community, right?

  505. I like a lot of surface things. I love

  506. the hellos. I love the goodbyes. I love

  507. the high five, I love seeing everybody

  508. in the lobby. And the reality is is that

  509. I got to take intentionality and I got

  510. to find me an introvert around me

  511. that'll be able to ask the deeper

  512. questions and be able to dive into like,

  513. "Hey, this is what that person was

  514. actually" you probably didn't notice it

  515. because you were having so much fun,

  516. Pastor Drew, but this is what that

  517. person was actually probably feeling in

  518. that moment. Oh, you're right you're

  519. probably right. That might be right. So,

  520. uh we need we need community. I promise

  521. you if you deepen your Christian

  522. community, you will increase your

  523. spiritual health.

  524. If you deepen your Christian community,

  525. you will increase your spiritual health.

  526. I promise you. I promise you. And this

  527. is where uh we see this in Acts chapter

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  528. 2. You don't have this passage, don't

  529. worry about it. In Acts chapter 2, it

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  530. talks about this community that was

  531. started in the first church and what

  532. they were devoted to. And again and

  533. again and again and again, it's all

  534. about being together. They're the

  535. teaching of the apostles. They're

  536. receiving from each other. They are

  537. giving to each other. They're hosting

  538. each other in people's homes. They're

  539. gathering every day in a big church

  540. setting and every day in a small group

  541. setting. They are doing this again and

  542. again and again. Community is essential

  543. for how we are created in our spiritual

  544. walk.

  545. So, I want to talk about wrote four

  546. types of relationships.

  547. Just as a quick tip, these are four

  548. relationships that every single

  549. Christian needs. To make sure you are

  550. checking the box of every single one of

  551. these relationships that you have in

  552. your life. Number one, you need to have

  553. some Christian friends.

  554. Your core group of people that you hang

  555. out with.

  556. The people that you are closest to

  557. need to have a sincere pursuit and walk

  558. in the Lord.

  559. I That may be That may feel

  560. controversial to you. I promise you

  561. that's not controversial when you step

  562. into it, when you start practicing that.

  563. Your core friends are the most

  564. influential people in your life.

  565. And you are lying to yourself if you do

  566. not believe that they are influencing

  567. you.

  568. It doesn't mean kick out the unbelievers

  569. in your life.

  570. It means increase your proximity to the

  571. people around you that are genuinely

  572. pursuing the Lord.

  573. Truly get involved in good, deep, godly

  574. community with people that you also just

  575. like and like to hang around and get.

  576. And some of the things may be different

  577. because you're used to different habits,

  578. you're used to different uh things that

  579. you're doing with your friends that you

  580. may have done before you were saved and

  581. now it's hard once you're saying I'm

  582. trying to pursue Jesus, but I'm hanging

  583. out with the same people that are doing

  584. the same things and acting the same way

  585. and I find it's really hard for me to

  586. take a step forward in my spiritual walk

  587. because you need to have Christian

  588. friends. Your second relationship that

  589. you need to have is mentors.

  590. You need to have someone in your life or

  591. people in your life

  592. that you can go to

  593. and you say, "You have permission

  594. to speak over me to critique me, to give

  595. me negative critical feedback, to

  596. correct me, and to kick my butt in the

  597. right direction."

  598. You need people in your life

  599. who have gone before you, who have

  600. walked with the Lord longer than you, or

  601. have different strengths in the spirit

  602. than you do.

  603. That can speak into your life, that can

  604. encourage you, and to become a mentor

  605. for who you are and how God is

  606. developing you.

  607. You only have the knowledge that you

  608. have. You don't know what you don't

  609. know. You don't carry what you don't

  610. carry. Someone else will be able to

  611. speak into that.

  612. Have find a mentor, a someone who can

  613. disciple you, someone who can encourage

  614. you, someone who you can just shadow and

  615. learn from and how they live that you

  616. respect it and that you honor in that

  617. way. Here's another one.

  618. We you need to have if you've been

  619. following Jesus for more than two to

  620. three years,

  621. I believe you need to have a disciple.

  622. Someone that you are pouring into.

  623. Someone that you are investing in.

  624. Once I've been following the Lord, we

  625. talk about this. If you've been to

  626. discover, you know what I'm talking

  627. about. You pursue the Lord or you're

  628. pursuing your own ways, you're doing

  629. your own thing. And then we go and we

  630. turn and we do an about-face and I

  631. repent and I change my ways, I change

  632. what I'm pursuing, I look to him and

  633. then I start walking in the right

  634. direction. I grab the hand of someone

  635. who's walked a few years ahead of me.

  636. They have learned some things that I

  637. have not learned. They've stepped on

  638. some landmines that they can help me to

  639. avoid and then they have avoided some

  640. that they can say, "Trust me, I've

  641. watched this happen, you want to avoid

  642. this one." And they can help spur me on.

  643. And then after a little while,

  644. I may meet someone

  645. who I go, "Holy smokes, actually, I've

  646. been doing this a little bit. Let me

  647. reach behind

  648. and let me walk with you.

  649. And let me help you as I've learned

  650. about some landmines to avoid. Here's

  651. areas where I've listened to wisdom,

  652. here's areas where I ignored it and I

  653. beg you, please pay attention." Right?

  654. Like we get to speak into those. You

  655. need to have a friend, you need to have

  656. a mentor who will speak into you and

  657. then find a disciple, someone that you

  658. can just encourage. We've got a pathway

  659. that that we that we have as a part of

  660. Collective Church that we can actually

  661. help you. If you go, "Man, I am so

  662. hungry. I'm so ready to grow

  663. spiritually. How do I become more like

  664. Christ? Who do I get connected to? What

  665. are the next steps?" We've got a pathway

  666. to be able to help you out with this.

  667. Let us know and we'd love to be able to

  668. get you connected to that. But then here

  669. is the fourth relationship.

  670. 1 Corinthians 5 talks about

  671. talks about how we need to have

  672. relationships with in the church and

  673. outside of the church. And Paul's

  674. saying, "Do not allow for people who are

  675. trying to live like the world

  676. but still claim to be to to be part of

  677. the church, don't let them when they're

  678. following all the things that the world

  679. is doing."

  680. Do not allow do not let that happen.

  681. HE SAYS, "JUDGE THEM.

  682. Speak to them about their actions.

  683. But what I'm not talking about is doing

  684. that with people who don't have a

  685. relationship with Jesus."

  686. Now I've got a whole different

  687. situation. People come to me all the

  688. time and they're like, "You don't

  689. understand. I got this neighbor. I got

  690. this friend. You want to know what they

  691. did? You want to know how they

  692. responded? YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW THEY

  693. RETALIATED to me parking my car in on

  694. the curb in front of their house? Like,

  695. DO YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOING AND I GO,

  696. "DUH.

  697. What else would I expect

  698. from someone who doesn't have a

  699. relationship with Jesus?

  700. There's no conviction in their soul

  701. saying, 'I need to learn how to love

  702. someone even if what they just did

  703. frustrated me.'

  704. Right? Like, of course. Do not carry do

  705. not hold an expectation of the word of

  706. God over SOMEONE WHO SAYS, 'YEAH, I MEAN

  707. I I GUESS I probably would say I'm a

  708. Christian. I went to church My grandma

  709. took me to church a couple times.' And

  710. so, yeah. Yeah, that's where I'd be.

  711. Right? Like, that's totally different

  712. than someone who's actively following

  713. the Lord and I got to treat that

  714. differently. And so, that fourth

  715. relationship we need to have.

  716. If you've been following the Lord for

  717. two to three years, you need to have an

  718. evangelistic relationship.

  719. Who are the lost people in your life

  720. that you love?

  721. That you are praying for. We have a

  722. board called love into the light outside

  723. in the lobby and it's all about finding

  724. people that are that we desperately want

  725. to see come into the light of the hope

  726. of the name of Jesus and that is where

  727. we want to make sure we're praying and

  728. intentionally living out together. So,

  729. these are four relationships. I want to

  730. encourage you look at one of these

  731. relationships and figure out how do I

  732. where do I need to take a step?

  733. What type of relationship do I need to

  734. make sure that I maybe I need to pull

  735. back from some friends that are negative

  736. influences on me. And that may require

  737. some awkward conversations. Hey, we hang

  738. out three times a week and I know that

  739. you I I told you I'm done smoking what

  740. we're what you're smoking, I'm done

  741. drinking what you're drinking, I'm done

  742. I'm done talking the way but you know

  743. what? I actually need to separate that I

  744. need to I I need to do that every week

  745. once once every other week

  746. because

  747. if I I notice if you walk away and you

  748. go ooh, I feel

  749. lost, I feel darkness, I feel sickness,

  750. [music] I feel dirty on my soul. You've

  751. been influenced instead of stepping into

  752. those relationships as an evangelist, as

  753. a person who is on mission. I remember

  754. the first time when Morgan and I were

  755. dating early on, she said I got invited

  756. to a friend's house and they're having a

  757. house party and we know all the things

  758. they're going to be involved there. We

  759. know all the drugs and all the alcohol

  760. and all the relationships and all the

  761. chaos. We know all this stuff that's

  762. going on. So, we gathered we got

  763. together we got with my parents, we

  764. prayed [music]

  765. God would you send us? Would you use us?

  766. Would you make this an evangelistic

  767. opportunity, not just an opportunity for

  768. fun. And we went in and we began to

  769. minister and we began to love and some

  770. of the relationships that I met, some of

  771. her friends that I met there have now

  772. started [music] following the Lord since

  773. then and and have recommitted their

  774. life, have turned their life around. But

  775. we did not go to say, "I don't know.

  776. We'll We'll see what happens."

  777. Or even just go, "I'm going to I'm going

  778. to party, but I'm not going to do the

  779. bad stuff."

  780. Right? I went as the influencer.

  781. Not the one being influenced. And as

  782. soon as I start to look at that stuff

  783. and if it starts to become attractive to

  784. me, I get out.

  785. As soon as I I I go, "Oh, now I'm the

  786. one starting to be influenced." I got to

  787. I got to separate. I got to create some

  788. space. And we were probably only there

  789. for like an hour and a half, 2 hours,

  790. something like that max. So,

  791. here's what I want to do.

  792. >> [music]

  793. >> I want to I want to highlight a a

  794. relationship that's not on here and a

  795. type of relationship within here. Number

  796. one, the relationship that's not on

  797. here.

  798. Every mature Christian does not need a

  799. romantic relationship.

  800. It's not listed anywhere in scripture.

  801. In fact, there's a lot of passages in

  802. scripture that make you go, "Man,

  803. actually it might be better to be single

  804. my whole life."

  805. Right? The reality is is I look to

  806. scripture and I know we're called to be

  807. fruitful and multiply. Right? We're

  808. called like we were created for a

  809. relationship. We talked about that. But

  810. some may be called to live a life of

  811. devout commitment to the Lord and not

  812. and and and and singleness is part of

  813. that. That's okay. [music] That's great.

  814. And so it's not required. And so what I

  815. want to do but we get this wrong so many

  816. times. And I want to say,

  817. please

  818. I hate speaking into people's romantic

  819. relationships

  820. because they're like, "Oh, yes, Pastor,

  821. you I would felt a conviction about that

  822. [music] thing about that thing about

  823. that thing. Every topic, yes, amen,

  824. hallelujah. You can't tell me who I can

  825. date and not.

  826. Who do you THINK YOU ARE?

  827. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING? AND

  828. SUDDENLY there's this offense, right?

  829. Cuz it gets deep to our heart.

  830. And there's a it's it's really hard

  831. because it's the closest person to you.

  832. 2 Corinthians [music] 6:14 says, "Do not

  833. be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For

  834. what partnership has righteousness with

  835. [music] lawlessness? Or what fellowship

  836. has light with darkness?"

  837. The reality is [music]

  838. is that if we're partnering with someone

  839. in romantic relationship or in pursuit

  840. of that

  841. that is not following the Lord, that is

  842. not in more in love with him than they

  843. are with us, [music] we're setting

  844. ourselves up for failure.

  845. We're setting ourselves up for trouble.

  846. If you're in an unequally yoked

  847. relationship, please fix it.

  848. Please, I promise you the sacrifice

  849. it'll be so hard, but it'll be worth it.

  850. If you're not, [music] determine this

  851. before it becomes a problem that my

  852. number one goal in the type of person

  853. that I'm going to date, the type of

  854. person that I'm going to look for to

  855. marry is going to be a follower of

  856. Jesus.

  857. The other things come under that.

  858. They may be the most attractive person

  859. I've seen. We may have some powerful

  860. chemistry. [music] There may be like

  861. some of wow, how did this connection

  862. happen? That's so cool. All of that may

  863. be cool and make you feel all

  864. butterflies inside, but that doesn't

  865. matter. I promise you it will end in

  866. destruction for both of you if you

  867. aren't united on [music] pursuing Christ

  868. first. I promise you. Please listen to

  869. that. In fact,

  870. there is a lady here at Collective

  871. who has taken a bold stance on this in

  872. ways that I never had to, that I don't

  873. know if I would be able to.

  874. Mariel had a seven-year

  875. relationship

  876. that over a period of time,

  877. it was very clear

  878. that unfortunately this could not

  879. continue on. And this is just [music] a

  880. few weeks ago. I I said I'd keep it

  881. anonymous, and she says,

  882. "Please share. I want to be an

  883. encouragement to other people."

  884. She seeks the Lord. She comes to church.

  885. She says, "We're We're living together.

  886. We're going to separate."

  887. >> [music]

  888. >> Immediately. Right away. Tries the

  889. relation- tries to keep the relationship

  890. going. It's not working. It's not

  891. happening. Pretty soon, there's a clear

  892. It's It's me or the Lord.

  893. I know my decision.

  894. I don't

  895. Guys, that takes some strength. I don't

  896. know if I have. I've never had to make

  897. that decision. I've never had to do That

  898. is a long time. That is some serious

  899. commitment to say, "No, I will choose

  900. the Lord." But she says, "I will get

  901. this right, and I will seek first His

  902. kingdom, and all the things that I need,

  903. whether it's a man or not, all the

  904. things will be added unto me." Myriel, I

  905. praise you. I thank you for the courage

  906. you have stepped into.

  907. For the bravery that you have taken.

  908. I don't know. I know so few people who

  909. would do that. It is such a deep tie

  910. that that takes. I applaud you. Can we

  911. give a second to honor Myriel in what

  912. she has done?

  913. >> [applause]

  914. >> If you are in this, and you go, "I don't

  915. know how to do this."

  916. This is a woman who carries her strength

  917. in the Lord, not in herself.

  918. Would you find her? Let her encourage

  919. you in that.

  920. And it has set her relationship on fire.

  921. Guys, the conversations we've been able

  922. to have, it blows me away. It blows me

  923. away what God is doing in her heart,

  924. >> [music]

  925. >> and I celebrate I celebrate that.

  926. And so, [snorts] that's the that's the

  927. relationship that's not on the four.

  928. Here's the other one. There's a type of

  929. a mentor

  930. that scripture I believe highlights

  931. >> [music]

  932. >> is a special type of mentor.

  933. In 1 Corinthians 4:15-17,

    1 Corinthians 4:15–17

  934. it says, "For though you have countless

  935. guides, you have many mentors, [music]

  936. you have a lot of podcasts you listen

  937. to, a lot of sermons that you listen to,

  938. you got a you got a group host, you got

  939. a pastor, you got spiritual leaders

  940. around you, you've got all these you got

  941. this this church that you watch online

  942. and the church that you go to in person.

  943. Like you got all that stuff.

  944. You don't have many fathers.

  945. Here's the reality. We're in the same

  946. boat 2,000 years later.

  947. The fathers still

  948. seem to be less [music] frequent

  949. as good,

  950. present, Christ-pointing [music]

  951. fathers.

  952. And then he writes this. He says, "I

  953. became your father in Christ." This is

  954. Apostle Paul. "Through the gospel I urge

  955. you then be imitators of me." Remember,

  956. I'm grabbing the hand of someone behind

  957. me. "The imitators of me. That is why I

  958. sent you Timothy.

  959. Cuz he is my beloved, faithful child in

  960. the Lord." Paul didn't have children.

  961. Timothy, he regularly calls my son in

  962. the faith, my child in the Lord, to

  963. remind you of my ways in Christ as I

  964. teach them everywhere in every church.

  965. So what this is is is there's a there's

  966. a unique type of mentor, a father.

  967. And dads dads are that dads are known

  968. for a few a few different things, right?

  969. I want to be in charge of the

  970. thermostat. Amen. [music]

  971. There you go.

  972. I want to make like there dad jokes,

  973. we're known for having cheesy,

  974. occasionally funny, most of the time not

  975. jokes, right? Dad jokes are a thing.

  976. What I want to do is what I've got here

  977. is we've got not dad [music] jokes,

  978. we've got dad quotes. Cuz dads are also

  979. known for making a lesson out of pretty

  980. much everything.

  981. >> [music]

  982. >> My kids will start rolling their eyes

  983. when I'll be like, "OH MY GOSH, THAT

  984. REMINDS ME OF THIS THING." And like,

  985. "You got to pay attention here. Watch

  986. out. Look at this." But, here's it's so

  987. sad [music]

  988. that that is so much less common than

  989. the dad jokes that we all are familiar

  990. with.

  991. And so, what I've got here

  992. is

  993. uh

  994. we've we've got a whole bunch of

  995. statements on a key ring

  996. that are statements and I've gone to

  997. some of the most solid fathers that I

  998. know.

  999. I said, "What are the things that you

  1000. speak over your children?

1001. What are the statements that you want

1002. them to hear? That is not it's it's not

  1003. every ordinary statement. It's like, "I

1004. want this to take root in your heart.

1005. I want to capture this moment and let

1006. you know that though what your friend

1007. said to you at school, I need you to

1008. know that's not who you are. You are my

1009. child. You are loved." And then, what we

1010. did is we I I I took statements that

1011. that the Lord has spoken as father

  1012. [music] to his children.

1013. And we have we have verses that are tied

  1014. to these

  1015. >> [music]

1016. >> these dad statements and we have

1017. passages from the Lord speaking to you,

1018. to us as the perfect heavenly [music]

  1019. father.

1020. And so, what I want to do is I want to I

1021. we got we got a few of these up here at

1022. the altar and I want to offer these as a

1023. couple different things. First of all, I

1024. want to make it available to fathers

  1025. and for men

1026. to receive and to give.

1027. That you take this, you keep this,

1028. and you allow for this to be something

1029. that you allow to be spoken over you. I

1030. don't know if you had a great father

1031. and you need to learn how to be a good

  1032. father.

1033. I'm blown away at the dads who did not

1034. have a dad that was present.

1035. It blows me away. I find it incredibly,

  1036. incredibly honoring

1037. to become a great dad when you did not

1038. have that. These are the types of

1039. statements that then you can receive and

1040. then give out. And I look [music] to

1041. these fathers, look to these

1042. and be able to go, "Hey, I want to find

1043. an opportunity to tell my child or the

1044. spiritual children in my life, you are

1045. not a mistake. You are carefully and

  1046. wonderfully made."

1047. I want you to know,

1048. "The world is better cuz you are [music]

  1049. in it."

1050. You know, these are statements that're

1051. rooted in scripture. We see that you can

1052. look up the verses yourself.

  1053. "I'm with you.

1054. So, you already have what it takes."

  1055. Statements that are

  1056. that are powerful,

1057. but something extra is added when they

1058. come from a father figure.

1059. And so, I want to I want to ask men to

1060. take these. I'll encourage you to speak

1061. them over the children, whether they're

  1062. biological,

1063. relational, or spiritual children in

1064. your life. For others who take these,

1065. some are questions, even conversation

  1066. starters.

1067. Right? The the tell me something you

1068. would normally never say out loud that

1069. lets me know how you're really feeling

1070. or doing [music] right now.

1071. Use this as a conversation starter with

1072. a father figure in your life, a

1073. spiritual, Christian father figure, or

1074. use it as an opportunity to like be a a

1075. conversation starter with the Lord.

  1076. Just a prayer time.

1077. Okay? So, we've got we've got these up

1078. here. And uh and and I want to

1079. I've seen one of the most powerful

  1080. prayers within scripture

  1081. is actually

1082. uh the father's blessing over their

  1083. child.

1084. And a father's blessing is seen [music]

  1085. as this this

  1086. turning point prayer in a child's

  1087. [music] life.

1088. Where he gives and he declares the

1089. identity of the child over them. And he

1090. declares and he [music] prophesize a

1091. future for them. A future of blessing, a

1092. future of favor, a future of grace.

1093. And what I've asked is I've asked for

  1094. a few of

1095. the men, the fathers, specifically

  1096. fathers

1097. in this church who have followed the

  1098. Lord

1099. who have fathered children, who have

1100. spoken life into them, to come and to

  1101. stand up.

  1102. >> [music]

1103. >> If If I messaged you, if you know, if I

1104. If I've talked to you about this, would

1105. you stand up and would you spread around

1106. the aisles, the edges, in the altar

  1107. of the room.

1108. And what I want to do is we're just

1109. going to take some time.

  1110. I want I want to ask

  1111. uh

1112. I want to ask if you want a father's

  1113. blessing

1114. would you find one of these men?

1115. Would you find one of them and they just

1116. want to pray a blessing over you.

1117. They just want to pray This isn't This

  1118. isn't a father's discipline. This isn't

  1119. a father's correction. This is a

  1120. father's blessing.

1121. And I want uh and and I want to ask

1122. they're just going to take a couple

1123. minutes to do that. [music] It won't be

1124. long and I want to ask for for you

  1125. fathers up here

1126. would you make sure you prioritize your

1127. children as well that are in the room?

1128. And then I want to ask all the fathers

  1129. in the room

  1130. >> [music]

1131. >> if you would be so bold and courageous.

1132. We're going to take some time. If you

1133. don't have anyone to pray for, if you

1134. don't if if [music] you're not coming up

1135. to get prayed with and to get a blessing

1136. prayed over you, then we just got a song

1137. we're going to worship to. You can stay

1138. there, you can pray, but fathers I ask

1139. if you got a kid in the room

1140. would you pray a blessing over them?

  1141. 30 seconds.

1142. 60 seconds. [music] It doesn't have to

1143. be long. Just pray a blessing.

1144. What you hope that they will become.

1145. In fact if you've got a child that's not

  1146. in the room

1147. but is over in kids ministry, our kids

1148. ministry are ready for that.

1149. And fathers, if you want to go pick up

  1150. your child,

1151. check him out. We've got a section

1152. [music] ready over by the Mustang Center

1153. where you can go. There's some worship

1154. music on, and you can just pray a

1155. blessing over your child in an

  1156. environment that's a little more private

1157. that allows for you to speak to them.

  1158. >> [music]

1159. >> And all I say is go to them and say,

  1160. "Hey, for Father's Day,

1161. could I give something to you?

1162. And I'd like to pray for you. Can you

  1163. come with me?"

1164. It may be a little awkward to get

  1165. through,

1166. especially if that's not something

1167. that's [music] common that you do.

1168. But, please take that step. We can stand

  1169. up in here.

1170. And what I'm going to do

1171. is I'm going to invite every single

  1172. person [music]

1173. uh I want to I want to make sure men

  1174. men receive a father's blessing.

  1175. >> [music]

1176. >> If you are a man every man in here, I

1177. ask for you find We got nine of these

1178. guys around here. I'm coming down. I'll

1179. be available for this as well. Please

  1180. find someone, receive a father's

1181. blessing. Go to them. [music] Go to

1182. them. Go find them right now. And we're

1183. going to have a time Ladies, women,

  1184. girls, please receive a father's

1185. blessing. Line [music] up behind these

1186. people. Allow for them to speak the the

1187. heart of the father over you. And we're

1188. going to sing [music] a song. We're just

1189. going to worship here, and we're going

1190. to allow for a little bit of a holy

1191. moment to happen here as we declare

1192. father's blessings over those in this

  1193. room.

  1194. >> You're a good, good father. [singing]

  1195. It's who you are.

  1196. It's who you are,

1197. and [singing] I'm loved by you.

  1198. It's who I am.

1199. You're a good, good [music and singing]

1200. father. It's who you are.

  1201. It's who you are.

  1202. It's who you are,

  1203. >> [singing]

  1204. >> and I'm loved by

  1205. you. It's who I am.

  1206. It's who I am.

  1207. >> [singing]

  1209. who you [singing] are.

  1210. It's who you are.

  1212. and [singing] I'm

  1213. loved by you.

  1216. >> You're a good, good father.

  1217. It's who you are.

  1218. It's who you are,

1219. and I'm loved [singing] by you.

  1220. It's who I am.

  1221. It's who [singing] I am.

  1279. It's who I am.

  1280. It's who [singing] I am.

  1281. >> [music]

1282. >> One of the statements here

1283. comes from Psalm 27:10 [music] and I

    Psalms 27:10

1284. want to read this here.

1285. Psalm 27 written by David [music]

1286. says, "Though my father and mother

1287. forsake me, the Lord will receive me."

1288. And here's the statement. "Even if

1289. [music] every earthly father fails you,

  1290. I will not.

1291. I am your heavenly father."

1292. And what I want to do is I want to I

1293. want to take a second. Maybe maybe you

  1294. would haven't had a great father

1295. experience. [music] Maybe it's even hard

1296. for you to call God a heavenly father.

  1297. I want to I I I believe that that

1298. conviction, that pain in your heart

1299. actually [music] points you to him.

  1300. That there's Hold on, there's something

1301. not right about this. There's something

1302. not right about what I've experienced.

1303. There's something not right about about

1304. this this father experience [music] that

1305. I've had. And I want to invite you, if

1306. you have not If you've not committed

1307. your life and surrendered [music] to the

1308. good good heavenly eternal father, we

1309. want to make sure you can connect with

1310. one of these fathers around the room. We

1311. also want to encourage We have a couple

1312. ladies. Maybe you are going, "I I want

  1313. this. I want a blessing. I want some

1314. prayer. But man, receiving that from a

1315. male right now is a little hard for me."

1316. [music] That's totally fine. Or maybe

1317. you just want to be able to talk about

  1318. salvation or something totally

1319. different. We got a couple people over

1320. here by the prayer banner. If you

1321. [music] guys can wave your hands. We got

1322. and they are more than willing to be

1323. able to pray with you, to speak with

1324. you, to speak life over you. And and and

1325. feel free, men, fathers, would you stay

1326. around the room? Would you stay around

  1327. the room? Fathers

1328. in sitting around here, please

  1329. don't let today leave.

1330. If you're anything like me and most of

1331. the men that I talk to, it's probably

1332. [music] a little bit easier to give than

  1333. to receive.

  1334. Take a moment for Father's Day. Give a

  1335. blessing to your children.

  1336. To your biological children,

  1337. stepchildren,

  1338. it doesn't matter,

1339. spiritual children, people [music] that

1340. you have just spoken life over.

1341. Make sure you take time to give a

1342. father's blessing to them today. [music]

1343. Thank you guys. Father, I pray a

1344. blessing over this time. I pray a

1345. blessing over these words. Would you

  1346. cement [music]

1347. the words of your spirit as prayers

1348. continue at the altar here. Would you

1349. cement [music] the words that your

1350. spirit is speaking over each person.

1351. Lord, I pray that they would not just be

1352. words that my [music] ears hear, but

1353. they would settle into the hearts of

1354. each one of us here. Mighty God,

  1355. >> [music]

1356. >> May we know your blessing, your favor,

1357. your heart for us because of the

1358. Father's blessings in [music] this room.

1359. Lord, I pray that these dad quotes

  1360. would be a blessing.

1361. I pray that each [music] person

1362. would be able to take this and multiply

  1363. this

1364. in their world to those

1365. who may need it most. [music]

1366. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray.

1367. >> Hey, thanks so much for watching today's

1368. message. Our prayer is more than the

1369. words that were spoken [music] in the

1370. message, that you would remember the

1371. things that God spoke to your heart.

1372. >> Yeah, and no matter what it was that God

  1373. spoke to you,

  1374. >> [music]

1375. >> I know that part of your journey is

1376. other people, being in a community,

1377. because we are better [music] together.
