>> Good morning collective. Come on. Who's
-
loving the worship today?
-
As always, I want to make sure that this
-
is a place where we we where we don't
-
transition out of a posture of worship.
-
And so, I just want to take some a
-
second. One thing I'll do if I find uh
-
whatever it is, whether it feels like
-
anxiety, whether it just feels like I'm
-
getting distracted, whatever. Whenever I
-
feel like I'm in too much of Drew is
-
involved and I need a little more Holy
-
Spirit. Amen. Anybody relate to me?
-
Right. Come on. I will just I'll just
-
take a second and it doesn't have to be
-
super long. This is one of the things I
-
encourage you guys to do. Uh especially
-
if you work super early mornings, you're
-
like, I can't spend the amount of time
-
with the Lord early that I want to and
-
I'm not very focused in it. This is
-
still something I like to do. I'll just
-
take a second, take an intentional
-
prayer and I'll just like inhale,
-
exhale. I'll just breathe. I'll spend
-
some time with the Lord. So, can we do
-
that for a second? Can you do that just
-
for a second? I just You can if you want
-
to close your eyes. I like to close my
-
eyes because I'm super easily easily
-
distracted. Uh, so you can close your
-
eyes, but what I want to do is I just
-
want to prepare our hearts here for this
-
moment. And so right now, take a moment,
-
[snorts] breathe in God's grace over
-
your life. The fact that he is right
-
here, he is with you and he has already
-
forgiven you.
-
Now, take a second, breathe in the
-
lessons God wants to teach you today.
-
I'm ready to receive. I'm ready to be
-
filled. I'm ready to for for you to
-
download what you need for me and then
-
breathe in God's blessings for you
-
so that we will receive all the good
-
things that he has.
-
Breathe in his his victory over your
-
situation. Am I forgetting something in
-
this breathing exercise?
-
Is anybody having a hard time exhaling
-
right now? Okay, that's for real. Okay,
-
you can exhale. If you can exhale,
-
breathe out.
-
All right, that wasn't intentional. I do
-
encourage you guys to spend some time in
-
prayer.
-
Inhaling and exhaling. But a lot of
-
times it makes no sense to just go. I'm
-
just going to breathe in. [snorts] Then
-
I'm going to breathe in.
-
And I'm trying. And I'm trying. You're
-
like, I'm trying, Pastor Drew. You're
-
making it really hard on me to follow
-
what you're telling me to do there. But
-
here's the reality. So many of us
-
actually live our lives in that way. Our
-
spiritual lives saying, "Lord, I receive
-
your grace.
-
Lord, I receive your presence. I receive
-
the lessons you want to teach me. I want
-
your blessings. Lord, give me your
-
blessings, Lord. I want to stand in your
-
victory. Give me your victory." Amen.
-
And we conclude our lives in this place,
-
in this posture. Yet the reality is is
-
that if I want to be healthy, if I want
-
I I have to have a income
-
[sighs and snorts] and an expense, I
-
have to receive
-
and I have to give.
-
>> That's what we're actually talking about
-
today. We're talking about living in the
-
overflow.
-
living in a place in a position where my
-
life is overflowing. And this is part of
-
our summer leanin series. We've talked
-
about the whole idea is how to avoid the
-
summertime spiritual slump. How are you
-
going to not let Oh yeah, what happened?
-
I was going to church consistently. I
-
was in my word consistently. I started
-
to build these habits and then they
-
started to disappear. What happened
-
there? No, we're actually going to lean
-
in. We're going to let summer make us
-
stronger. And so we've made a commitment
-
this summer to spend time in the word,
-
to spend time at church, to be a part of
-
this. And we've gone through a lot of
-
different lessons of things that we need
-
in order for your spiritual life to be
-
set on fire. Like a a a spiritual life,
-
you say, "Man, it's just it my spiritual
-
life is on fire. It is hot. It is hotter
-
than it is outside right now." Amen.
-
Right. Like I come on. Come on. Come on.
-
Give yourselves a hand for coming here
-
on a sweaty, hot day. Let's go.
-
I believe there's an extra blessing
-
inside the house. I just believe you
-
still get a blessing online. Don't
-
worry. But uh but I do believe that God
-
blesses the sacrifice given to make it
-
here. Thank you guys. Here's some of the
-
topics that we've hit on. We've got a
-
whole bunch of things that we've hit on
-
over the summer. Talking about our
-
righteous rhythms, talking about make
-
sure that we get in the right rhythm so
-
that my habits in my life are set on
-
fire. We got a slide for this if we can
-
pull it up. Talked about getting back to
-
our first love. talked about humility,
-
the key to God's heart, about how we
-
have to be a part if you want to have
-
your spiritual life on fire, I got to
-
surround myself with the right people.
-
How what does community look like? What
-
do I do? How do I how do I treat my lost
-
friends and family members? How do I
-
treat my my spiritual my friends that
-
are close to me? Uh forgiveness,
-
the freedom I need. how often we are
-
blocked. The breakthrough that you have
-
is blocked by unforgiveness with a
-
powerful message from Laura. Uh getting
-
my giving right. I got to get my
-
finances right in order if I'm going to
-
have my spiritual life set on fire. This
-
is a block that so many people have and
-
experience. And then Taylor shared last
-
week about walking with the Holy Spirit.
-
Come on. Who loved that message? Let's
-
go, Taylor. So good.
-
Today we're talking about living in
-
overflow because once you're walking
-
with the Lord, there should be one thing
-
that naturally starts to come out of
-
you, but it so often is limited. We
-
limit it and we ignore it or we make
-
excuses for it. And it's the whole idea
-
of fruit. In fact, if you look at
-
scripture and you look at within the
-
word of God, when Jesus says you are, or
-
in the New Testament, when the Apostle
-
Paul or Peter or John or James says we
-
are, these core identity statements of
-
the church, of the body of Christ, I did
-
a study on this and there's a lot of
-
different key uh identity statements
-
that are made about this about you are
-
salt, you are light. You are Matthew
-
10:31. You are of great value. Acts 18,
-
you are my witnesses.
-
You are not of this world. These are
-
identity statements that I got to
-
remember about who I am. I am not of
-
this world. You are God's house.
-
You are his field.
-
You are sent [snorts]
-
to be a blessing to the world. Acts
-
3:25. You are the body of Christ. We are
-
the body of Christ. Amen. We have We are
-
God's children. We are God's people. We
-
are God's workers. We're described as
-
all these. We are his workmanship
-
created for good works. We are children
-
of light. You are a myth. This whole
-
like again and again and again and again
-
it has all these identity statements
-
about who we are. That every single that
-
we all fall under the umbrella of this
-
identity. I promise you, if you're
-
trying to figure out who you are in
-
Christ, it's always going to fall
-
underneath the identity of who God is
-
and who he's created the church to be
-
and how we are created to function
-
within that. And so I look at these key
-
identity statements spoken over us. And
-
there is almost every single one of
-
these has a common denominator of either
-
directly pointing to being a people that
-
live life on mission or implies that in
-
the context like being the body of
-
Christ, right? The whole purpose of
-
being the body of Christ is being his
-
action being his be being of service
-
going and doing and moving because now
-
Christ his body has gone up to heaven
-
right he ascended and so now we are the
-
body and so the whole like we are Christ
-
on this earth and so Matthew 5:13-16
-
this is where I want to focus it's one
-
of the first and biggest Jesus's biggest
-
you are identity statements and he gives
-
this in the sermon on the mount. One of
-
the most powerful sermons that he
-
preaches at the beginning of his
-
ministry to be able to kind of define
-
who we are, how we operate, where and
-
and and how the kingdom of God is
-
shifting with the presence of the
-
Messiah. So, we've got Matthew 5:13-16
-
here. Jesus says, "You are the salt
-
of the earth." Not your salty. Come on.
-
If you're feeling a little salty here,
-
okay, I'm just going to like maybe a
-
couple more deep breaths would be good.
-
You are the salt of the earth. But if
-
salt has lost its taste, how shall it
-
saltiness be restored? It's no longer
-
good for anything except to be thrown
-
out and trampled under people's feet.
-
You are the light of the world. A city
-
set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do
-
people light a lamp and put it under a
-
basket, but on a stand, and it gives
-
light to all in the house. In the same
-
way, let your light shine before others
-
so that they may see your good works and
-
give glory to your father who is in
-
heaven. Now, we're described as a couple
-
different things. You are salt and you
-
are light. And what this was is this is
-
a I I love the way that the word is I
-
love the way that Jesus teaches because
-
he gives a revelation and then it
-
requires you to do a little bit of
-
digging on your own. Because what he
-
doesn't want to do is just say here you
-
go. Here's the here's the idea. Go live
-
on mission. Go be go go go go be a
-
people of overflow. Congratulations.
-
That's it. He says you are salt. What is
-
salt? What does salt do? And it makes me
-
think. And then the revelation now is
-
mine instead of just something that was
-
given to me. That's why when you read
-
the word of God and you go,
-
I don't know. I have no clue what I just
-
read. I think there's something good
-
there. I feel like there is. You read it
-
again. You read it again. You discuss it
-
with a friend. You journal. You write
-
about it. This is what I feel like I
-
just read. This is how it could
-
potentially apply to me. This is this is
-
what I think it means. And this is what
-
it means in my context for my life.
-
Right? So this is this is how we look at
-
this. What is salt? Salt is a couple
-
different things. Especially in this
-
time, we had salt do two things. We saw
-
that salt was primarily actually a
-
preservative. It was used to make sure
-
that things would last and keep on
-
lasting. It would preserve food. In the
-
same way, Christians should be the
-
people that extend the life,
-
the true life, the abundant life. When I
-
feel like I'm alive, should be the type
-
of people that preserve and extend that
-
idea within the world around us.
-
Everybody's living, not everybody's
-
alive, right? We have this idea of like,
-
I want to be that blessing. I wanna I
-
want to preserve that when you're around
-
me. It's a good thing that you are
-
blessed just because you're around a
-
fellow believer. That's what I want the
-
people at my workplace. I want the
-
people in your neighborhoods. I want the
-
people in your coffee shops to go like,
-
I don't know. I just I like it when they
-
walk into the coffee shop. Things just
-
things just get better. The mood gets
-
better. The energy rises. There's
-
suddenly joy in the place. Like, I don't
-
know. It's just different, right?
-
There's this preservation of life. And
-
then there's this other aspect of salt
-
that when we think about it, it gives it
-
gives flavor. It brings out the flavor
-
and it brings out the life that is in in
-
the same way Christians should be givers
-
of the true life of Christ. You are the
-
salt of the world of the earth. We are
-
created to be preservers where life is
-
just better around a believer
-
and to be givers to be people who
-
actually add. Come on. I want I want
-
people to come to collective. Do you
-
feel like you come to collective and you
-
go I feel like life has a little more
-
flavor here, right? Come on. I want
-
that. I want that to be who we are. I
-
want that to be what you experience
-
where you're like, I don't know. We just
-
come alive. When I listen to the worship
-
songs at home, it's good. But when I
-
come in and we worship together,
-
right? It's just it's there. We are
-
here. I can I'm in it. I'm present. I
-
can go all in. I I'm shouting it. Like
-
there's just a little bit more here. In
-
the same way, you are the light. You are
-
the light of the world. Light does a
-
couple different things. First of all,
-
it it draws it draws attention. If you
-
notice the way that the lights are in
-
here right now, right? We got a whole
-
bunch of lights on the stage. We got
-
some lights out here. The whole idea is
-
the attention supposed to be over here.
-
What's what what's happening? The lights
-
will be a little bit dimmer, a little
-
bit a little different during worship.
-
Right now, we want you to be able to
-
read in your Bibles and take notes and
-
see. So, we got lights on over there.
-
But like, where do we want the
-
attention? Where's the focus supposed to
-
be? If we had the stage dark and the
-
lights on the back, we'd all be going
-
like, what's supposed to be going on
-
back there? Why is what? Like, we're
-
going to be all turning around the whole
-
time. Because light lit, it draws your
-
attention. It pulls you in. And the idea
-
is that we are supposed to be the same
-
way. Light is noticed. It draws in. It
-
attracts. But then also light reveals.
-
It gives. It reveals truth. Right?
-
Right? When I turn the lights on, I see
-
what's actually going on around me. It
-
reveals, it shines. It gives like in the
-
same way, we are to give hope and to
-
give life and to give peace. And we are
-
supposed to be givers and illuminate.
-
Here's the thing that we often get mixed
-
up because there's not a single light in
-
here that's anything remotely like the
-
light that they are talking about in
-
Matthew 5. When Jesus says, "You are the
-
light of the world." When D uh King
-
David says, "You are a lamp to my feet."
-
He's not talking about an LED light that
-
a flashlight that I'm shining, he's not
-
they're not talking about electricity.
-
They're talking about a flame. They're
-
talking about a fire. In the same way,
-
it's easy to miss this that light is
-
intentionally
-
naturally contagious.
-
Right? I I it's easy to pass it on. I've
-
got a flame. I've got a light. And when
-
I touch my flashlight to your
-
flashlight, it doesn't do anything. But
-
suddenly, when I touch a candle to
-
another candle, both are now lit. In the
-
same way, that's how we're supposed to
-
be to live. That's how you were created.
-
In fact,
-
if I'm not living in an external way, I
-
would argue that we are not even living
-
according to the definition that Jesus
-
gave us of what it means to be a
-
follower of him.
-
I say I'm a follower of Jesus. Well,
-
that means he says follow me and I will
-
make you I'm being transformed. I will I
-
it's a becoming process and I will make
-
you fishers of men. I have an external
-
outgoing
-
something that I express that's a
-
blessing to other people.
-
That's the definition of being a
-
follower of Jesus. And I got to take
-
that seriously. And so what what this
-
salt and this light reveals is that
-
there's two primary expressions of a
-
missional life. There's both the
-
attraction,
-
the fact that we are supposed to be a
-
people that like salt preserves and like
-
light draws attention. We're supposed to
-
be, do you know being a Christian is
-
supposed to be an attractive thing? All
-
over in in old like new early church
-
writings, they're concerned about how
-
are other people. Watch out. Don't Don't
-
let other people view you in a way where
-
they think that you're sinning, where
-
they think that you're living a life
-
that's remotely like theirs. You should
-
be living a life part of the the idea of
-
me living righteously is not just for me
-
being close to him, but for me being a
-
good example of who he is to the world
-
around me, right? The reality is I'm
-
supposed to be I'm supposed to live in a
-
way. Now, I like I like I like this.
-
I've heard it said before, live a
-
questionable life.
-
type of thing where you so stand out
-
that people are like,
-
"Why?
-
What's going on? You just got the same
-
email from our boss that everybody else
-
just got and yet you seem to like not be
-
shaken by it. What's going on? How come
-
when when you're so frustrated about our
-
team losing or whatever it is, it's
-
like, oh,
-
anyone want some chips and guac?" Right?
-
like you just you you're like YOU YOU'RE
-
YOU'RE DISHEARTENED BUT THEN YOU GET
-
OVER IT BUT YOU LOVE THE TEAM AND YOU'RE
-
CHEERING THEM. WHAT'S GOING ON? HOW COME
-
YOU'RE DIFFERENT? WHY ARE YOU LIVING?
-
WHY DO YOU GO TO CHURCH ON A SUNDAY when
-
it's 100° out? Like wouldn't you rather
-
stay at home? Wouldn't you rather Yeah.
-
Well, I live a life that's intentionally
-
my habits, my the way that I live, my
-
righteousness, the things that I carry,
-
the words that I say, the words I don't
-
say, the way I speak, the way I don't
-
speak about my my my the conversations I
-
don't don't join in on in terms of my
-
co-workers and gossip and things like
-
that. I choose not to. Makes people go,
-
why,
-
right? We should live an attractive
-
life. We should live a life and I'm not
-
talking about like make sure you're
-
dressing to the nines all day every day,
-
right? The whole idea of like people
-
going, "Man, they carry something that's
-
different
-
that I don't see my other friends in the
-
world carry." What is What is that?
-
We're supposed to have an attractional
-
Isaiah 60 and61 talks about this about
-
how how we are a light to the world and
-
then we draw people into that and we
-
reach out to the lost as well. And that
-
is the second piece. It's the extending
-
two expressions to attract
-
and then to extend. I've got to be
-
intentional. I can't just go hey my
-
whole mission in my life is just to look
-
like as good a Christian as I can. The
-
whole purpose is actually I have an
-
extension. I have things that I'm doing
-
that I am pouring out that I am giving.
-
There's a lot of different ways to be
-
able to do this. We see like that's why
-
we actually one of the big reasons and
-
how we structure our church is with
-
serving. So that when you come, it's the
-
safest place to learn how to go. How do
-
I use the gifts that I've been given to
-
be a blessing to everyone else? I don't
-
really know how to do that. And I
-
certainly don't know how to do that in
-
front of my lost friends, my family
-
members that they've they've seen me get
-
blackout drunk and like they're not
-
really sure. They don't think that this
-
is like this whole Christian thing is
-
going to last for me. Like they've seen
-
all that. And so they don't they I I'm
-
I'm I'm not thinking about that. I'm
-
just trying to figure out how do I how
-
do I do this? This is a safe place to
-
figure that out, to find the gifts and
-
the calling of God that he has on you.
-
That's why I I encourage you guys join a
-
team. If you haven't come to discover,
-
it's one of the best ways to be able to
-
get get jumped in and figure out how do
-
I get involved? What does that look
-
like? Uh who is Collective Church?
-
What's the heart that we operate with?
-
What's our story? All that happens.
-
That's the first Sunday of every month,
-
1 hour right after service. I want to
-
invite you into that. But we have we
-
have to extend by serving. We can extend
-
by reaching the lost.
-
I beg you guys, I promise you this is
-
not there. There's the the other way of
-
of extending and expanding the kingdom
-
is is disciplehip.
-
If you've been a believer for two or
-
three years, that's how long Jesus's
-
disciples followed him. And then he
-
said, "You better be going and making
-
your own disciples. Go."
-
If you have been a believer for a few
-
years
-
and you don't have someone that you are
-
saying, "Hey, I've taken a couple steps
-
closer towards Christ. Let me grab your
-
hand and walk with me as I follow him
-
really imperfectly, really poorly, but
-
I've I've found out a couple things. I
-
figured out some habits that worked. I
-
figured out some things that I should
-
avoid. I've stepped on some landmines I
-
can help you avoid.
-
And let me walk with you. Let my ble the
-
blessing that I have received become a
-
blessing to you. I want to encourage you
-
in that. But if you want to go, how do I
-
have impact right now? I'm brand new in
-
this whole faith journey. I prom you are
-
the best evangelist we've got in the
-
house. If you just recently go, "Holy
-
smokes, this Jesus thing is amazing. He
-
has just recently transformed me in a
-
powerful way." You have the best
-
testimony. It's fresh. It's like you're
-
stumbling over and you're like, I don't
-
I don't know. It's just amazing. Like I
-
was I was so anxious and then when I get
-
into the I go to church and I get this
-
presence and then it was freed from me.
-
You know, we just had at our last uh
-
encounter night, we just had someone
-
give a testimony about like, I always
-
operate with this anxiety and now I've
-
been given all these stressful
-
opportunities and moments and now I'm
-
just like, huh? I'm supposed to be
-
anxious right now and I'm not. What's
-
going on? Something just changed.
-
There's a testimony in that. You're the
-
best evangelist that there is. If you
-
just discover this, start to give that
-
testimony out again and again and again.
-
And who is the person in your life that
-
doesn't know Christ
-
that you you so desperately want to know
-
him?
-
If you don't have someone like that,
-
find someone like that. You go, man, I I
-
need to I I need to see them. I need to
-
see them worshiping the Lord with me,
-
sitting beside me in church. I need to
-
see them carrying the hope that I have
-
discovered in Christ. I need to see them
-
getting freed from the same things that
-
I got freed from. I need to see them
-
living with purpose in ways that I've
-
been given purpose. I need to see them
-
find the safety that I found in the arms
-
of Christ. I need it. I need it. I need
-
it. And that is that's this place where
-
we go, I I've got a one. In fact, that's
-
what our love into the lightboard is out
-
there. When I have that person, I'll
-
take two keychains. I'll write their
-
name down on both of those keychains.
-
I'll put one on the board on the black
-
side on the dark side of dark. Like they
-
they're not living in the light. And I
-
pray they get to live into the light.
-
And I'm going to and then I keep the
-
other keychain and I go I'm going to
-
remember this. I'm going to pray for
-
this person. Every single time I see
-
this keychain, I'm just going to say a
-
quick prayer. Lord, would you please
-
help me to be an example to be a light
-
to this person? Would you use me? And
-
then would you use other people? Would
-
you draw them near to you? And I pray
-
and when we see that person that I've
-
been praying for, come meet Christ,
-
experience him, come to church. I'll
-
move that over from the dark side to the
-
light side. And I've walked them. I've
-
loved them intentionally into the light.
-
That's that we are called. We have a
-
missional expression that's both
-
attractional and expanding and extending
-
and giving out. So I want I want to
-
encourage you guys in Genesis 12:2. Uh
-
this is this is what Chad just hit on
-
and this is actually one of these
-
identity statements early early on in
-
the gosp in in the whole story of the
-
gospel before Jesus. This is like 2500
-
years before him. God speaks to Abraham
-
and he gives him the definition of who
-
I'm creating as my nation. And he
-
creates Israel as this nation out of
-
here. And he says, "I will make of you,
-
Abraham." At this time, his name was
-
just Abram. I'll make of you a great
-
nation. I will bless you. I will pour
-
out my blessing on you. It's the
-
receiving. It's the I want that. I want
-
to receive this. I will bless you and I
-
will make your name great so that you
-
will be a blessing. I'm going to give to
-
you so that you give away. That's the
-
whole purpose of this whole thing. We
-
are created to be blessed. If he's Come
-
on. Who's been blessed by the Lord? Come
-
on. Amen. Amen. [applause]
-
If I'm not using every single blessing
-
that he's given to me to be a blessing
-
to someone else, I'm missing it. And
-
this is what it's like. See, this is
-
this is this is what we do. This is how
-
most people most Christians live their
-
lives. And I don't want to have us do
-
this here collective. Okay? We live our
-
life, we go, I feel empty of something
-
inside of me, of life or of purpose or
-
of mission or of just I don't know what
-
it is. There's something inside of me
-
that I'm missing. And then I come to
-
church, right? And holy smokes, the Holy
-
Spirit start filling,
-
starts pouring out. And I feel so full.
-
And I leave and I go, "This is amazing.
-
I've never felt so full in my life. I've
-
never felt so full of purpose. This is
-
incredible. I walk out and I'm like,
-
"THIS IS GREAT." BUT then I get the text
-
as I'm walking out and I get distracted
-
and I can figure out where am I going to
-
go for lunch. Oh, I got to cook lunch.
-
Wait, that house is a mess. Oh my
-
goodness. I forgot about that work
-
meeting that I have. I forgot about all
-
this stuff. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
-
Thursday start coming in and I get
-
distracted. And the problem is is that I
-
leak.
-
I love the Lord. I get filled with him,
-
but I leak. And again and again and
-
again, I'm trying to just live this
-
life. And then what do I have? Oh, I
-
can't wait for Sunday because I just
-
feel so empty. And then guess what?
-
Sunday comes. Sunday comes. Oh, just at
-
the right time. Oh, Lord. Hallelujah.
-
Hallelujah. I AM FULL AGAIN. I FEEL IT.
-
I am re I have received your spirit. I
-
feel so much better. And I walk out
-
those magical doors and I forget what
-
the sermon was even about. I forget what
-
I what God spoke to me in the worship
-
time. And I and now I'm in this place
-
where I'm just I'm slowly draining. I'm
-
slowly losing who I'm supposed to be.
-
And I'm I'm I'm going, where was that
-
life? I know I had it. I'm trying to
-
access it. I'm trying to say a little
-
prayer. Or maybe I'll I'll even go to
-
church and I'm like, ah, I'm just kind
-
of showing up today and I don't I'm not
-
fully available
-
and I don't I don't give my whole self
-
and I don't I don't get fully exposed. I
-
don't allow the Holy Spirit to fully
-
mention or maybe I open up the word and
-
I'm like, I should probably read a verse
-
or two. There you go. And I'm just, you
-
know, okay, I did it. I did it. I I read
-
my verse. Why isn't it working? Let me
-
say quick prayer. Come on, Jesus. Help
-
me, please. All right. Now, I'm going to
-
spend the majority of my day. Thank you.
-
Please, please help me. I'm going to go
-
do my thing. And we go, why isn't this
-
working? I feel so empty. I feel so
-
hollow. I feel so lost.
-
One of the greatest breakthroughs I
-
think we need in this house. More than
-
more. Most people in here, I don't think
-
the next step that you have is you need
-
to spend even more time with Christ. You
-
need to spend even more time in the
-
word.
-
I believe that the next step you have is
-
actually
-
posturing yourself in a way so that when
-
I have received from him, I posture
-
myself in a way where I can then give
-
and then what happens is now I am able
-
to pour out to give. I can receive more.
-
I give more. I'm alive. I'm still
-
draining.
-
>> I still have flesh. I still got things
-
I'm dealing with. But suddenly, I am
-
experiencing this ability like I need
-
Jesus all the time. I got a friend that
-
is lost. I got something that I I got
-
someone that needs him. And so I need to
-
be receiving him so that I can give him
-
out. Otherwise, guess what they get? Get
-
a lot of Drew.
-
That's not that special, right? Can be a
-
little overwhelming at times.
-
The reality is is that I want when
-
people experience me, I want them to
-
have a even greater experience with the
-
Holy Spirit.
-
>> Which means I've got to position myself
-
in a different way. I've got to put
-
myself in a place where, hey, I want to
-
I want to pour out to you. Build your
-
own mission field. figure out what your
-
mission field is going to be where you
-
go, this is no longer my workplace. This
-
is now my mission field. And I'm going
-
to do excellent at my job as part of the
-
attractional piece of my mission, but
-
I'm also going to have an extension. I'm
-
also going to have something that I give
-
away. I'm going to start bringing lunch
-
for just a whole bunch of people uh so
-
that whoever wants lunch on Mondays,
-
right? We got a case of the Mondays. How
-
can I help minister on Mondays in my
-
workplace? Oh, they hate it. Everybody's
-
complaining, in a bad mood on Mondays.
-
Let me bring lunch. Let me bring some
-
dessert. Let me bring a suite. Let me do
-
something like that, right? What What do
-
you carry? What do you have that can be
-
a blessing to other people? I'm not good
-
at cooking. I'm not. I certainly am not.
-
Maybe that's you. And so maybe that
-
ain't going to be it. But you know what?
-
You can like I'm going to write a note.
-
I'm going to encourage someone if I see
-
that I'm I'm walking to my desk. I'm
-
walking to my office and I'm just
-
looking around. Who's around me? How are
-
they How are they carrying themselves?
-
Are they just I I I notice that this
-
person shows up, they just glue
-
themselves to their screen, they
-
disappear, right? I notice that this
-
person never talks on the company Zooms.
-
I just But I have access to message
-
them. Hey,
-
Ive I've I've never really gotten to
-
know you. I'd love to just get to know
-
you. How can I just start to extend and
-
just be a blessing for the sake of being
-
a blessing? Right? Like yes, I want you
-
to experience the life and the light
-
that I have found in Christ. And I do
-
maybe want to eventually invite you into
-
church. But guys, I just want to start
-
just be a blessing. Just give. Let
-
people be blessed because they are
-
around you. And it doesn't have to be,
-
wait, will you will you first receive
-
the gospel? Will you first come to
-
church with me? And now, oh, you said
-
no. Okay, well, I'm kind of going to
-
back off the blessing. I'm going to back
-
off the niceness. The reality is is
-
position yourself. Get yourself in a
-
posture where I have to keep on
-
receiving because I'm already pouring
-
out. Otherwise, I'm going to find myself
-
pouring out nothing and I got just a
-
couple drops to give. What do I need? I
-
need more of him. And I don't got to
-
wait till Sunday.
-
He's available all the time. I want to
-
live my life in a position of overflow.
-
I promise you, you will be able to
-
receive more because you give more. I
-
receive more of the Holy Spirit. I
-
receive more of the word. The word will
-
come alive to you. I promise you. You
-
start putting yourself where you're
-
going, I am I I I am I'm got a someone
-
that I'm pouring into. I've got someone
-
whether it's not disciplehip, maybe I'm
-
new in my journey and I've just got
-
someone that is lost that I really hope
-
that they come and find the life that I
-
have found in Christ and I'm going to
-
position myself where I'm being
-
intentional. Maybe you'll tell them
-
straight and you're like forthright.
-
You'll just be like, "Listen, I want you
-
to know
-
I want you to discover the same hope and
-
the same faith that I have found. I'm
-
not going to make you. I'm not going to
-
force you. But I want you to know that's
-
on my heart because I love you that
-
much. I care about you in that way and
-
it's been a blessing to me beyond what I
-
can describe. [music] I believe that
-
Jesus will be a blessing to you beyond
-
what you can describe and you position
-
yourself for that. Do you want to know
-
how much living a life on mission makes
-
[music] you come alive? Do you the the
-
the best way if you want to if you want
-
to learn something, if you want to
-
retain something, do you know the best
-
way to learn something?
-
You teach it.
-
Every single Sunday I preach, [music] I
-
promise you, whoever was on stage and
-
preached the message got more out of the
-
sermon than you did. I promise you, the
-
best way to learn something, [music]
-
teach it.
-
Explain it. Talk to your kids. Talk to
-
someone else. This is what [music] I
-
learned at church today. That'll help
-
you to retain, that'll help you to
-
capture. And then you'll start saying
-
something and every once in a while, the
-
Holy Spirit will take over and you'll be
-
like, "That was really good. I really
-
needed that. They really needed that.
-
Holy smokes, that was amazing.
-
The best way to get more energy, man,
-
I'm always tired. I keep getting my
-
sleep and I just still always feel
-
tired. You want the best way know the
-
best way to get energy? Expend it. Work
-
out, exercise,
-
right? Do you want to know the best way
-
to get more money? Invest it. Want to
-
know the best way to get stronger? work
-
your muscles until they get little micro
-
tears in them and they're super sore and
-
you'll get stronger. The reality is is
-
the best way to give more is by to to
-
receive more is actually by giving more.
-
This works out financially. This works
-
out in in the way that God has designed
-
the body. This works out in the way that
-
that agriculture works. I want to have a
-
bigger harvest. Well, I've got to plant
-
more [music] seed.
-
>> I want to see this work. If I want to
-
see God move through me, then I've got
-
to make sure I've positioned myself for
-
even more impact than before. I'm
-
terrible at this, but you get the idea.
-
>> The whole idea is I want to position
-
myself [music] to see God move in and
-
through me. And I'm going to place
-
myself
-
like Jesus told his disciples [music]
-
to. And he said, "You are going to be
-
the church. You will go [music] and make
-
disciples." Who are the people that are
-
walking with Christ [music] today
-
because
-
partially because of the way that you've
-
lived
-
or the way that [music] you've reached
-
out to them? Who are the people that
-
their life is on fire or stronger
-
because of the way that you have [music]
-
ministered to them?
-
If you don't have anyone,
-
let's change that.
-
I promise you, living a life of overflow
-
will cause for you to find your
-
spiritual life on fire like never
-
before.
-
It's probably [music]
-
at least part of your next step of what
-
God is calling [music] you into. Whether
-
that's joining a team, whether that is
-
finding someone that you can start
-
pouring into and [music] discipling,
-
or whether that is I'm going to I'm I'm
-
going to find a couple lost people, a
-
group of friends, [music]
-
a mission field that I go, this is my
-
target. That coffee shop is no longer
-
[music] just a coffee shop to me. It's
-
my mission field.
-
I'm going to learn every barista's
-
[music]
-
name. I'm going to learn the name and
-
the drink of the regulars. I'm going to
-
I'm I'm going to buy drinks for people.
-
I'm going to get extra [music] snacks
-
and just hand them out and be a
-
blessing. I just want people when they
-
see me come in there, they go, "OH MY
-
GOODNESS, it's you. Yes,
-
I'm going to be a blessing.
-
I'm going to come at times that
-
intentionally maybe a little more dead
-
and I can just have [music]
-
conversation, right? Like what am I
-
going to do?" Start build your mission
-
field. And I want to encourage us to do
-
that. But the the the idea is that
-
[music] I don't want we have to
-
the vast majority of the time when I
-
have [music] conversations about growing
-
spiritually with someone. What's your
-
next step? How are you doing? How's your
-
walk with the Lord? 90% of [music] the
-
time, here's the next step. Uh I haven't
-
really been in the word that much. I
-
haven't [music] really been praying and
-
I need to get into that. Yes. Good. Yes,
-
that is that is your next step. Can we
-
please
-
Can we please [music] move past that?
-
Not get past it, like ignore it, but
-
continue to move on from that being our
-
problem.
-
I We need to be in a place where it's
-
like, well, duh. I'm spending every
-
[music] day with Christ. Like, I need
-
to, right? I I I may I may have missed a
-
day last week or last month. leg, but I
-
just I jump on and I feel so empty and I
-
feel so hollow and I feel so like what's
-
going on with me. Oh my goodness. That's
-
what it is, right? Like I we need to get
-
into a place where my time with the Lord
-
is good and now I'm living out and now
-
I'm having new problems. [music]
-
I got a new problem. I got this person
-
and they're asking me these questions
-
and I don't know how to answer them.
-
Good.
-
I got this person. They're struggling
-
with this AND I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO
-
DO FOR THEM. MY HEART BREAKS FOR THEM.
-
OH LORD, I JUST NEED FOR THEM TO GET THE
-
BREAKTHROUGH. WHERE WHERE IS IT? I'M
-
GOING TO GATHER MY FRIENDS TOGETHER and
-
we're going to be praying because I just
-
want to see them see this breakthrough
-
in [music] their life. THAT'S A GOOD
-
PROBLEM. That's the type of problem we
-
are created for. How can we get together
-
and be a blessing to that person?
-
Live a life of overflow. [music] Because
-
the reality is is we've got a bunch
-
the American church has got a [music]
-
bunch of really spiritually fat
-
Christians
-
all ready to receive, all ready to
-
consume, all ready [music] to give me
-
give me. I want to find the right church
-
that get that has the comfy seats that
-
has the [music] that has the music in
-
the way that I want it. I want to I want
-
to make sure to have all this stuff and
-
and finding the right I'm not I'm not
-
joking. finding the right church is so
-
important, but a lot of times we end up
-
instead of making it about him and
-
what's going to challenge and grow me,
-
we make it about which church is going
-
to make me most [music] comfortable.
-
And that's actually a way that you're
-
going to get stagnant. You're going to
-
get stuck. And the reality is is if I
-
come here and I go, that was good, but
-
that was probably for someone else.
-
If I go, I'm looking for a place that ah
-
I felt really convicted with that
-
conversation that that leader had with
-
me. I don't I don't like that.
-
I don't like them.
-
You know what? I don't like this church.
-
That's so common because I don't I don't
-
want to grow. I [music] just want to be
-
fed again and again and again and again.
-
[music] And I don't expend any of that
-
energy. Spiritually, we've got to get
-
spiritually fit. We've got to get some
-
action, [music]
-
some extending out of us. So, I want to
-
tell you, I promise you, living in
-
overflow, it's going to do a few things.
-
We're going to jump through this super
-
quick. Living in through overflow will
-
help you to experience [music] purpose.
-
I promise you, you will find that God
-
has created you for the work that he has
-
called you to. And [music] he has
-
created you to be bad at it in certain
-
ways and to be amazing at others so that
-
you have a gift that you're operating in
-
and a weakness that he is making
-
manifest [music] his presence in. Okay?
-
You will experience purpose. You'll
-
receive more of the spirit. I promise
-
you, you will go, I never knew the Holy
-
Spirit could be so alive in me. I never
-
knew that this could be. It expands like
-
a balloon. Like my capacity to hold him
-
[music] and to carry his spirit is
-
expanded. Uh, I learned more of the
-
word. The Bible will come alive to you
-
when you [music] start to walk through
-
it with other people. When you start to
-
get someone else's heart on your heart,
-
the word will come alive to you. You
-
will grow in compassion [music] for
-
others because you're going to have to
-
start working someone through sin,
-
someone that you love so dearly with a
-
sin that you have judged so harshly
-
before. And now you're like, I get it
-
kind of and I want to see them freed
-
from this. And I've looked at other
-
people that carried this sin and I'm
-
like, wow,
-
I don't relate to that one. That's an
-
ugly one. You're really messed up.
-
Suddenly, you're going to find this
-
compassion [music] for other people in
-
the same way that Christ had compassion
-
for people when he didn't give into any
-
of the sins that they were dealing with,
-
yet he had incredible compassion on
-
[music] their sins. Living a life in
-
overflow will set your spiritual walk on
-
[music] fire. I ask you to increase your
-
output.
-
Increase your output. For a [music] very
-
small percentage people in this room, I
-
believe
-
and I hear this. I hear this more than
-
it's actually reality. Oh, I need I need
-
I'm giving too much. I need to just sit
-
back and receive. Very very very small
-
[music] percentage. It's probably not
-
you.
-
If you think it is, come find me. I'll
-
help you to like find a leader. We'll
-
help you to discern that. So that it's
-
like, hey, is that because I hear a lot
-
of people say that and really it's an
-
excuse because there's something
-
consciously or subconsciously in my
-
heart I'm avoiding. The reality is is
-
most of us need to learn how to give
-
differently. It'll set your mission on
-
fire. It'll [music] set your purpose on
-
fire. I can give more because I'm
-
receiving more. I promise you, it'll set
-
you [music] ablaze. Be the light of
-
Christ wherever you go. Start serving.
-
Find someone that you're going to love
-
into the kingdom [music] of Christ. Find
-
someone that you're going to disciple
-
and set their spiritual walk on fire. If
-
you don't have all three of those areas,
-
if you don't have people that you're
-
inviting, if you don't have a mission
-
field, get one. [music] That's your
-
application today. Can we stand up?
-
And this is
-
the the only way to actually live a live
-
a life in [music] overflow. It's not
-
just don't don't don't get me wrong.
-
This is not just uh living
-
othersoriented. [music]
-
It's selfless.
-
I live a life that's for others [music]
-
because I've been emptied of self. I've
-
been filled with his spirit. I can't do
-
that. I absolutely [music] can't do
-
that. I can't just empty and make myself
-
disappear into nothingness.
-
I've got problems. I've got [music] sin.
-
I've got flesh. And the only way to do
-
that is to live a selfless life where I
-
actually capture [music] God's heart for
-
other people is to surrender my life.
-
Not to make it disappear, but to
-
actually put it [music] at the feet of
-
Jesus. [snorts]
-
And when I put my life when I crawl onto
-
the altar of Christ and and and I
-
[music] say I am now your living
-
sacrifice. I am yours. I am dead. You
-
use me however you want. That is where
-
you will discover the greatest purpose.
-
And there's [music] no way to be able to
-
do this. There's no way to be able to
-
give something that'll actually impact
-
people more than you can impact them
-
[music] without the Holy Spirit. So what
-
I want to invite us to do today is
-
actually practically figure out what
-
your what your out overflow is. Okay,
-
[music]
-
that's number one. But honestly, for the
-
majority of us in this room, we probably
-
need to just go, I need to start
-
receiving the Holy Spirit to a level
-
that I actually have something to pour
-
out.
-
And for some of you in this room, that
-
may be a first [music] time ever,
-
maybe the first time in a long time. And
-
I [music] want to invite you.
-
If you go,
-
I need Jesus. I need to receive him into
-
my heart. I need to [music] allow for
-
him to give me purpose, for him to give
-
me the life that he that Pastor Drew
-
keeps [music] talking about. Like, I
-
don't have that. I've still got all this
-
stuff weighing me. I I I need that. And
-
if and I need Jesus. I want to be
-
[music] filled. I just want him to fill
-
up my heart and my life so I can start
-
receiving and experiencing [music] that
-
that first filling so that I can start
-
to overflow.
-
Maybe for [music] the first time ever,
-
maybe for the first time in a long time,
-
you say, "I need Jesus and I want to
-
receive him into my heart." If that's
-
you, would you put your hand up real
-
quick just so I [music] can see? It
-
doesn't have to be super high. I just
-
want to be able to see. It's just you
-
and me. Come on. I see you. Thank you.
-
Who [music] else? Who else in this room?
-
I see you. Thank you.
-
I see you. Thank you. I I want to get
-
right over here. Right over here. Can we
-
[music] get some of our prayer team?
-
We're going to have our prayer team come
-
around. And what we want to do is we
-
just want to make sure that [music] you
-
get prayed for. You don't have to do
-
this alone. In fact, you're not created
-
to do this alone. In fact, I promise
-
you, I guarantee [music] you, you will
-
fail at this alone. It's bigger than
-
you. It's bigger than me. We have to do
-
this [music] in the body. We have to do
-
this. Anybody else? If you don't have
-
someone gather around you, I saw I saw a
-
hand over here. I saw a hand right here.
-
Can we get a gentleman [music] right
-
over here? I just want to make sure that
-
we are able to we're we're we're able to
-
give to you a blessing that you may go,
-
I don't necessarily [music] have it
-
myself. I promise you, we will bless you
-
in that. If that's you, go ahead and
-
throw your hand up as you see someone
-
walking down the aisle, one of our
-
prayer team [music] members walking down
-
the aisle. Just kind of wave them down,
-
flag them down. But I want to do a quick
-
prayer here. Can we do that?
-
Wave them down. If while everybody got
-
get your eyes closed, if that was you
-
and you responded, go ahead and wave
-
down a prayer team member right now. For
-
the rest of us, let's pray. Heavenly
-
Father, Heavenly Father, I'm sick of
-
living a life just to get more. When the
-
world says just receive more, you need
-
more. You're you you you need to just
-
get and give and get and get and get.
-
Lord, I pray that we would learn to live
-
a life that's built on purpose. we would
-
position ourselves [music] where we are
-
forced into a place of overflow. We are
-
forced into a place of dependence where
-
[music] we become desperate for you
-
because we are now in a position that we
-
cannot operate. We cannot [music] live,
-
we cannot do this without your spirit
-
FILLING US. FATHER GOD, I pray would you
-
allow for every person here at
-
Collective Church to have something that
-
opportunities to pour in and to fill us
-
up and [music] intentional opportunities
-
to overflow, to pour out, to give away
-
so that as we leak, [music]
-
as the enemy comes, as temptation comes,
-
as problems occur, as we experience
-
life, Lord, that we would still continue
-
to be filled and to fill others up,
-
Lord. Lord, I pray in the mighty name of
-
Jesus right now. I [music] declare that
-
the mission fields, the workplaces, the
-
coffee shops, the gyms, Lord, that the
-
places that these people go, their
-
friend groups, Lord, wherever it may be,
-
I declare in the mighty name of Jesus
-
that you begin to set your spirit in
-
their mission field, in their families,
-
in their homes, in their neighborhood,
-
with the right relationships, that you
-
would begin to stir in the in the
-
evangelism of the person that they're
-
praying would come into life with you.
-
Father God, I pray please would you go
-
before us? Would you go before us into
-
the conversations that these people
-
begin to build a curiosity? Lord, I pray
-
in spiritual relationships and
-
disciplehip relationships. Lord, we
-
would you begin to establish not just a
-
disciplehip or relationship, but the
-
right one [music]
-
where there's a spir a powerful
-
spiritual unity where there's a gifting
-
[music] and an ability to be able to
-
connect on a on a testimony, Lord, that
-
that that allows for each person to grow
-
and to be built off and [music] become
-
mutual encouraers of each other. Father
-
God, I pray that we would be a church
-
that pours out not just here in church
-
through serving, [music] but pours out
-
everywhere we go. Would you use us? You
-
have filled us. We ask for you to use
-
us.
-
Use us, [music] Father. Pour us out like
-
a drink offering to you. We give our
-
[music] whole selves in the mighty name
-
of Jesus we pray. Amen. Amen. Come on.
-
Can we give a hand for the word of the
-
Lord?
-
>> Hey, thanks so much for watching today's
-
[music] message. Our prayer is more than
-
the words that were spoken in the
-
message that you would remember the
-
things that God [music] spoke to your
-
heart.
-
>> Yeah. And no matter what it was that God
-
spoke to you, I know that part of your
-
journey is other people being in a
-

-
together. So, if you made a decision to
