  1. Who is this? A Wisdom Bible church?

  2. The Church of a distant Christian narration.

  3. We have been on this journey for the last 13 weeks, praise the

  4. name of the Lord. And it's looking like the issues

  5. that keep on coming up will not be exhausted.

  6. And it has to be so because the true definition of life is

  7. relationship. And the cheapest of all,

  8. relationship is friendship. Take relationship out of life.

  9. What is left? You will just discover that life

  10. will be so boring. Loneliness with SO make you get

  11. fed up about life and it's not going to be something you want

  12. to continue with. So the true definition of life

  13. is relationship. Then even faith, our faith in

  14. Christ Jesus, our work with God. The true definition of it is

  15. relationship. So everything about the fake

  16. life is relationship. The the royal law is about love

  17. God have a perfect smooth cordial relationship with your

  18. maker. And then the second is like it.

  19. Love your neighbor as yourself. All of this is about

  20. relationship, so the true definition of life and of faith

  21. is what relationship and the achievements of relationship is

  22. friendship. So I won't be surprised that we

  23. have to stay this long dealing with the topic and except we

  24. take the liberty of the Holy Spirit to quit the topic, that

  25. will still be more and more issues to deal with.

  26. So without be labouring the matter, you will discover that

  27. we have made it very clear in our previous studies that

  28. friendship is the highest form of interpersonal relationship.

  29. I said that over and over again and by now you, your spirit

  30. should have agreed with it and buy into it that the cheapest of

  31. all form of relationship or the highest form of interpersonal

  32. relationship is friendship. And so it is not enough to be a

  33. busy servant. Last week we parallel the

  34. service level of relationship with the friendship level of

  35. relationship. And so it's not enough to be a

  36. busy servant which was aspire to attain the status of a faithful

  37. friend in our work with God. Now walk with God.

  38. We should do our best to attain the status of a faithful friend

  39. in our work with God. I will study the scripture and

  40. we discover that only few people rose to that height.

  41. May grace be given to us to rise to that height in the name of

  42. Jesus. So service level relationship

  43. where you are valuable to be used by God, it's not the

  44. ultimate that is available in our work with Christ, the

  45. service level of relationship. It's not the ultimate level of

  46. relationship that is available in our work with Christ.

  47. We should upgrade in our work with Christ to that friendship

  48. level of relationship. So, and that is going to be the

  49. summary of the issues we have dealt with in this subject.

  50. Now, what are we taking out of this subject that has taken us

  51. 13 weeks to look like? OK, if you don't come to that

  52. level whereby you aspire to outgrow the service level and

  53. come up to the friendship level, then you have not profited,

  54. profited enough from the topic. So attaining friendship level

  55. relationship that we are now talking about cannot happen

  56. spontaneously. We said that repeatedly.

  57. It cannot happen spontaneously. If you look at it spiritually,

  58. you look at it practically, you will discover that friendship

  59. level relationship does not follow cultural lineage.

  60. We said a lot about that last week.

  61. We mentioned that it's an institution born out of well

  62. established relationship, well established relationship such

  63. that is characterized by faithfulness and loyalty.

  64. You know it was at a period of evaluation after a long period

  65. of interpersonal relationship of being disciples under the Lord

  66. Jesus Christ that you now look at the disciple in Gospel come

  67. to Saint John chapter 15, verse 15.

    John 15:15

  68. Henceforth I no longer regard you as servant.

  69. Now you are my friend because you have known as you ought to

  70. know, you have learned as you ought to learn, and you have

  71. demonstrated integrity in relationship to be brought into

  72. the level of becoming my confidence.

  73. And that was the reason that led me to especially further on that

  74. same issue last week, that apostleship status is easier

  75. attained than friendship status. The word apostles means one that

  76. is sent, one that is given assignments.

  77. Hello. So to be called, to be sent, to

  78. be given an assignment OK is at the discretion of God.

  79. There is not much OK you do to impress God, to give you

  80. assignment, to send you an error, but there's a level of

  81. responsibility maturity that you must demonstrate before you can

  82. assume the friendship level. Am I talking to somebody so they

  83. are positive status is easier at 10 and that was why they didn't

  84. stay too long with him before I call some of them, OK, just like

  85. somebody doing a short time intensive training, looking for

  86. a new recruit and then you assign assignment.

  87. That was what he did with them when he decided them as opposed

  88. to in March Chapter 6. Am I talking to somebody?

  89. But they have to stay long enough with him gaining maturity

  90. along the line, demonstrating their cordiality and

  91. faithfulness as you know, establishing themselves in

  92. integrity. And I said now you people can

  93. perfectly associate with me, I will not bring reproach to my

  94. name and I'll call you friends. So the apostleship status is CCI

  95. attain that the friendship status it was not long that

  96. disciple came to Jesus that it designated them apostles because

  97. of what apostleship is service based.

  98. Apostleship is a service based relationship and I use the word

  99. apostleship to cover all segments, all aspects of

  100. Christian service can be a pastor be an evangelist what OK,

  101. so so that is the sense which I am using the word apostleship.

  102. So it's easier attained because it is service based.

  103. It is service based, so once you are available it may suffice to

  104. make you an apostle. Once you are available, that may

  105. survive to make you an apostle. However, you will require

  106. proving that reliability to become a friend.

  107. Proving reliability to become a friend in in the Scripture we

  108. are in asset I no longer call you servants.

  109. You are now my apostle. You will discover that it

  110. followed a period of long time staying with Jesus, taking up

  111. responsibility and delivering excellent results.

  112. So availability. It's enough to make you an

  113. apostle, but you will require proof of reliability to become a

  114. friend. So if you are available, you

  115. must be equally reliable. A lot of people are available,

  116. but they are not reliable. So if you are available, you

  117. must be equally reliable. So Jesus waited until it was at

  118. the tail end of his ministry before he designated them as

  119. friends. But the journey was not too far

  120. into the ministry when he decided them as apostles.

  121. But he waited until almost the tail end of his ministry before

  122. he designated them as friends. We still put the study further

  123. on how the largest of Christ structure their faith progress

  124. before you eventually qualify them for the friendship ranking.

  125. You will notice from that John chapter 15, if we take the

    John 15 chapter mention

  126. reading from verse 9, that the journey started as a journey of

  127. mutual love. It's a journey of mutual love,

  128. but it didn't stop at just love alone.

  129. So in other words, love is needed to sustain a

  130. relationship, but love alone cannot nourish law and cannot

  131. nourish relationship to its deepest level.

  132. Are we following me? We're still probing into the

  133. Jesus Christ model of friendship, whereby it's not

  134. just about or something kind of friendship.

  135. We are colleagues to colleague age group to age group is easily

  136. warm up to each other as friends, but we are talking

  137. about a relationship whereby even the one that is up there is

  138. comfortable with your sense of responsibility as to make you a

  139. friend. That was why the Lord Jesus

  140. Christ, you know study his disciple, how they accepted his

  141. training, how they demonstrates I sense of responsibility and

  142. reliability. And then I said now you are my

  143. friend. But we are probing further to

  144. see how they progress from one level to the other before they

  145. attend that level. And the first stage in the

  146. journey of your relationship that we graduate into friendship

  147. is love. And that should not be difficult

  148. for you to understand if the definition of life and of our

  149. faith work with God is relationship.

  150. OK? What kind of relationship?

  151. Relationship that is born out of love.

  152. So the journey we always start as a journey of mutual love.

  153. And we saw that in the relationship between Jesus and

  154. his disciple. But before it graduated to the

  155. friendship level, OK, it's so clear that it was not just love

  156. alone. So love is needed to sustain a

  157. relationship but love alone cannot nourish a relationship to

  158. a deepest level. OK.

  159. So even among couples, OK, when they start to have issues and

  160. they cannot resolve the issue, you will discover that the

  161. either the man or the man will say I still love her, I still

  162. love him. The love is there but that the

  163. love is is almost becoming a place in handling the issues

  164. that are coming up and creating problem.

  165. Am I talking to somebody? So you want to nourish a

  166. relationship to its deepest level.

  167. You will need love, but you are going to need love.

  168. Plus cross back on to Saint John chapter 15 from verse 9.

    John 15 chapter mention

  169. As the Father had loved me, I said everything about the faith

  170. work in this Kingdom is about relationship, a relationship

  171. that is love this as the Father had loved me, so as I love you

  172. continue here in my love and what we think that would be all

  173. to our relationship with God. Love God and hence it there but

  174. first time if you keep my commandment, you shall abide in

  175. my love. So you can't be flouting God's

  176. commandment and remain in His love.

  177. You can't continue doing the things that displace the person

  178. you love. OK And you think they love OK.

  179. We satisfy its obligation in the relationship.

  180. Am I talking to somebody? If you keep my commandment, ye

  181. shall abide in my love. So what will help your love to

  182. produce the desired result? The design result is the keeping

  183. of commandment. Even as I have kept my Father's

  184. commandment and abide in His love, He said as the Father had

  185. loved me, I didn't just say because the Father loved me, I

  186. can leave it there or start to misbehave.

  187. I played my part. This is Jesus talking here.

  188. He played His part and He played it well.

  189. And what was the part that he played?

  190. He ensure that he stayed in the Father's commandment.

  191. That's why I'm worried about the modern day approach to the

  192. preaching of the message of grace, whereby you give people

  193. the liberty to misbehave. And he said grace, cover it and

  194. abide in His law. These things have I spoken unto

  195. you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be

  196. full. So these are the thing you enjoy

  197. when the relationship is cordial, when the relationship

  198. is honourable, when the love of God is not abused, when the love

  199. of God is supported by obey the commandment of God so that love

  200. can be sustained and relationship remain perfect.

  201. This is my commandment that you love one another.

  202. Everything about life is relationship, a relationship

  203. that is love based. So Jesus has talked about the

  204. one between him and his Father. You now talk about the one that

  205. should occur between US and Him. Then he progressed to the one

  206. that should also occur between US and our fellow man.

  207. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have love

  208. you. Greater love had no man than

  209. this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

  210. Now verse 14 is very instructive.

  211. It explain all that I've been struggling to analyse.

  212. Ye are my friends. Friendship is conditional.

  213. Hello, now we can talk about unconditional love.

  214. We will always have to talk about conditional friendship.

  215. Am I talking to somebody talking about law you can come to the

  216. nowhere. We're talking about

  217. unconditional love, but you can't talk about unconditional

  218. friendship. Jesus, Jesus, here in verse 47,

  219. ye are my friends If you do whatsoever I command you.

  220. So the moment you start to do against the things he commanded

  221. you, them friendship hands. Sorry.

  222. So friendship is a responsibility.

  223. Friendship does not allow for carelessness.

  224. Friendship does not allow for taking your friend for granted.

  225. Irresponsibility to ensure that you play your part.

  226. Irresponsibility to ensure that you are not the one doing the

  227. things that displaces your friend.

  228. Yeah, my friend, if you do whatsoever I command you.

  229. So just love, which has been well oversized from verse 9 to

  230. 13, was not enough to make the disciple his friend.

  231. So the other serious condition that qualified them to be

  232. regarded as bonifed friend of Jesus was that they were obeying

  233. His commandment. Then verse 15.

  234. Henceforth, now that you have fulfilled the condition for

  235. friendship, I call you not servants.

  236. For the servant knew it not what is not doing.

  237. But I'll call you friends. For all things that I have heard

  238. of my Father, I have made known unto you.

  239. So in spite of the fact that they remain disciples, OK, Jesus

  240. raised the bar of his respect for them that He not

  241. accommodated them into a circle whereby he decided them friend.

  242. So essentially we're saying in Jesus mode of discipleship about

  243. friendship, it is allowed that friendship can occur not only

  244. horizontally, it can also occur vertically whereby people of

  245. different social gradients can still maintain a cordial level

  246. of relationship. And to attain this vertical

  247. dimension of friendship level of interpersonal relationship, the

  248. relationship is not going to be defined by just love.

  249. That is what the scripture I just especially on is making us

  250. to realize that when we are going to operate in the

  251. practical dimension of friendship, the relationship is

  252. not just going to be defined by love, It will, in addition to

  253. love, be defined by discipline and maturity.

  254. What do I call it? Discipline and maturity.

  255. Discipline and maturities. So the disciples, as we

  256. mentioned earlier, were not regarded as friends by Jesus

  257. right from the onset. He forced groomed them.

  258. Then he watched them grill onto the status of that nobility

  259. called friendship. So in friendship, love is

  260. fundamental but it is not a stand alone factor that

  261. determines friendship. It's fundamental but you cannot

  262. stand alone. So in friendship, love must be

  263. supportive to discipline and vice versa.

  264. Discipline must accompany love. Do you understand?

  265. Discipline was what accompany love.

  266. In that case, not everybody can be your friend.

  267. If you understand the concept of friendship in the light of what

  268. Jesus was saying to his disciples, you are my friend if

  269. you keep my commandment. It means not everybody can be

  270. your friend. So your friend must be people

  271. that have, by commitment to common discipline, aligned with

  272. your core values. The reason they were

  273. accommodated into friendship with Jesus was because over time

  274. they have aligned with Jesus core value.

  275. They have aligned with the standard by which Jesus was

  276. living his life and operating his ministry.

  277. So you are already deceiving yourself if you keep around you

  278. people who don't share the same core value with you so freshy

  279. that you claim to have when you have not defined your core value

  280. is a mockery of the concept of for friendship.

  281. When you have not defined your core value and you say it's my

  282. friend, maybe for lack of appropriate nomenclature to

  283. define other kind of contacts that we have here.

  284. And there's a reason you call some relationship friendship.

  285. We are not friendship in the real sense of the definition of

  286. friendship as espoused by the Lord Jesus Christ in his

  287. relationship with his disciples. So any friendship that you are

  288. involved in and it has to do with people that don't share

  289. your core value or where you yourself have not divide your

  290. core value is a mockery of the true concepts of friendship.

  291. Such a friendship that you engage in when you have not

  292. divide your core value. We either end gradually or

  293. appropriately. It will dissolve with time to

  294. dissolve with time. You are just wasting your time.

  295. You get to a point cover that you got a time.

  296. You will discover that if you keep on like that, OK, you will

  297. not end up in the right destination.

  298. Am I talking to somebody? Am I talking to somebody?

  299. Father is a death. I pray that your people we come

  300. to that depth so that they can grow better in you in the name

  301. of Jesus. So when you keep company of

  302. friendship with people that don't share your core value, you

  303. are into a mockery of the concept of friendship.

  304. Or when even yourself, you are yet to divide your core value

  305. and you say you are into friendship is a mockery of the

  306. concept of friendship. Because such a friendship

  307. naturally, naturally it will gradually dissolve with time,

  308. and sometimes it may happen abruptly.

  309. So you will discover that with time as you become more mature,

  310. as you become more disciplined, you will migrate out of

  311. friendship that are not based on discipline.

  312. Hello, everything we discussed is about green.

  313. But this simply assessing am I talking to somebody?

  314. Every time there is no any adapting we discuss other than

  315. we can gown where there are more issues OK of destinies to be

  316. discussed am I talking to somebody?

  317. So you discover that with time, as you become more mature,

  318. become more disciplined, either nature or realities of life will

  319. make you or force you to graduate out of freshy that are

  320. not based on discipline. So it takes maturity to walk

  321. away from unprofitable relationship.

  322. For you to walk away from unprofitable relationship, it

  323. will take maturity. So.

  324. So when you see people engaging in unprofitable relationship,

  325. what they lack is maturity. By that maturity setting, you

  326. will not preach it to them. Am I talking to somebody?

  327. Oh, preaching to them. So maturity is also required to

  328. consolidate a profitable relationship into friendship.

  329. So the value you place on people OK will be determined by

  330. maturity. So maturity is required to

  331. consolidate a profitable relationship into friendship is

  332. the reason you grow to a degree and that's all realization.

  333. Come on you OK and your uncle that every time you meet.

  334. How is your study? What was your last grade?

  335. You know, when you were not mature, uncle is coming, you

  336. dodge because we ask about your school grade and that's a

  337. profitable relationship for you. But when you are not mature, you

  338. run away from that uncle. Am I talking to somebody?

  339. But as maturity set in, OK, you will not discover that that is

  340. kind of relationship. You must consolidate because

  341. it's a profitable 1. You will not discover that that

  342. uncle you hate so much because you will always query your

  343. academic performance. Now become the one you love

  344. most. You know, I appreciate that

  345. person. So it takes maturity to

  346. appreciate good people. It takes what's maturity to

  347. appreciate good people? Actually those that are showing

  348. serious concern, genuine concern about your destiny.

  349. So growth is a factor that determines the longevity or

  350. expiry date of friendship. Growth, growth.

  351. Growth is a factor that determines either the longevity

  352. or the expiry date of a friendship.

  353. Even a marriage union where only one partner is growing is an

  354. endangered home. Where only one partner is

  355. growing. OK, Such a relationship is an

  356. endangered relationship. So with time, as you mature, are

  357. you embrace the various disciplines that growth demands.

  358. You know that growth demand discipline growth it demands

  359. what discipline? The measure to which we increase

  360. in discipline OK is the standard by which your growth can be

  361. accurately measured. So as you embrace the demands of

  362. growth, which I call discipline, you will discover that it is not

  363. everybody that you love that can be your friend.

  364. Did you hear that the Father loved me?

  365. I love the Father, the love did not fire, the love is still

  366. there. That is Jesus talking, are we

  367. together? He said the way the Father love

  368. me, I have love you the love continue.

  369. You know I said love other people also like yourself.

  370. Are you with me? But people you love, the only

  371. condition upon which they can be called your friend is that you

  372. share Common Core value. If you obey my commandment, then

  373. you are my friend. So not everybody that Jesus

  374. love, OK, Is Jesus friend in the same manner, not everybody you

  375. love to be your friend. Am I talking to somebody?

  376. So with time, as you mature and you embrace the various

  377. disciplines that grow demands, you will discover that it is not

  378. everybody that you love that can be your friend.

  379. So there are great people that will reject your companionship.

  380. I begin to worry, what is the problem with me?

  381. They reject your companionship not because they hate you, but

  382. because you are not going to match their standard of

  383. discipline. So even in the workplace

  384. setting, are you with me? You just discovered that no

  385. matter what you do, even in the way and manner you serve, you

  386. just discovered that this boss is not looking your direction.

  387. And then those who are cooked to put the label of spirituality on

  388. everything we say, it is so quiet.

  389. Kalonjae or secular way, oh nilu or secular way.

  390. You have to upgrade in discipline, you have to upgrade

  391. in maturity. And as you upgrade in maturity,

  392. you will discover that you will be honour and you are going to

  393. be welcome into the circle of nobility.

  394. Am I talking to somebody? So there are great people that

  395. will reject your companionship not because they hate you, but

  396. because you are not growing to match their standard of

  397. discipline. If discipline is a cause a guni

  398. give us a good of India, a goody of India, Renee.

  399. AM I talking to somebody?

  400. So indiscipline is a curse. It's a plague that any

  401. responsible person should avoid. It's a plague.

  402. If you are a disciplined person, your love will be available for

  403. everyone, but your friendship will be reserved for special

  404. people that embraced your type of disciplined lifestyle.

  405. Are you learning something? If you are a disciplined person,

  406. your love will be available for everywhere, but your friendship

  407. will be reserved for special people that embrace your type of

  408. disciplined lifestyle. So without your guru pastor,

  409. your guru are you with me? You want to go to embrace his

  410. discipline lifestyle? OK Uburu, you want to go?

  411. I say it again, if you are a discipline person, your love

  412. will be available for everywhere or your friendship with the

  413. reserve for special people that embrace your type of discipline

  414. lifestyle. These disciples that Jesus said

  415. I no longer call you servant, you are my friend.

  416. They are not the only set of people in Jesus circle.

  417. The multitudes are there, the five hundreds are there, the 72

  418. are there, but you look at the select group, I no longer call

  419. you servant, I call you my friend.

  420. Then you also said to them, don't take this matter for

  421. granted. You liberty to remain as my

  422. friend. The conditionality upon you wish

  423. you would repair as my friend is if you do my commandment, if you

  424. stay within the bracket of my type of discipline lifestyle.

  425. That's what Jesus was saying essentially, am I talking to

  426. somebody? This is so because discipline is

  427. needed to correct what is wrong. But which love may condo?

  428. Love can be so permissive. That's why the scripture was

  429. very clear about it. To the degree that things that

  430. need to be corrected, you will see love condoning it.
