  1. You're very welcome to today's Triumph Church podcast.

  2. We pray that you enjoy the message.

  3. When we read Scripture, it's really good for us to have an

  4. understanding of what's going on in that letter.

  5. You know, the apostle Paul is writing, you know, a letter.

  6. We call it Ephesians because he's writing to the church in

  7. Ephesus, right? And he's writing a lot of

  8. different things. And, and it's important for us

  9. to know a lot of different things about that.

  10. Like what is, what is the Apostle Paul writing into?

  11. What is the culture of the time? You know, these are things that

  12. help us be able to interpret accurately what it is that an

  13. author is writing and helps us, helps us interpret Scripture

  14. accurately. So we're not coming up with some

  15. really weird doctrine or, or theology, but understanding the

  16. culture of what's going on in a book like Ephesians, Colossians,

  17. Philippians, like wherever it is that we're reading,

  18. understanding the culture of the time that the author was writing

  19. to helps us interpret things accurately.

  20. So I don't want to take a a little bit of time because

  21. Ephesians isn't a really amazing book and we've been talking

  22. about a lot of just fantastic things that the Lord has done in

  23. Ephesians chapter, right? But when we understand the

  24. culture and what the apostle Paul is actually writing into

  25. things kind of take a a little different perspective and kind

  26. of come a little more to life. So let's look really briefly at

  27. some of the culture in Ephesus. All right, Ephesus was a well

  28. known center of Pagan worship, might not have known that it was

  29. home of a famous temple of Artemis, named after a goddess

  30. of fertility. And people travelled from all

  31. over to come and view this temple that was an

  32. archaeological just or architectural just masterpiece.

  33. It was beautiful. It's an amazing temple, you

  34. know, but it wasn't a good temple.

  35. It was named after a goddess of fertility in Ephesus was a

  36. center of demonic and religious activity and practices.

  37. Ephesus was fascinated with spiritual power.

  38. You know, things were happening there constantly.

  39. Regularly there's idle making was a thriving industry.

  40. Magic arts and occult practices were common.

  41. And spiritually, Ephesus was saturated with superstition,

  42. with fear of spirits and devotion to false gods.

  43. It was a place where demonic activity and practices were

  44. prevalent and feared. And when you read the books of

  45. One and Two Timothy, these were written to Timothy, who Paul had

  46. had instilled as the pastor of the Ephesian church, right?

  47. Did you know that One and Two Timothy, Paul was writing to

  48. Timothy, who he instilled as the pastor of the Ephesian church

  49. there? And you might recall Paul

  50. writing this in Two Timothy chapter 1 and verse 7.

  51. It's a great scripture says, for God has not given us a spirit of

  52. fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

  53. You ever read that before? Well, this is what the apostle

  54. Paul is writing into because here you have Timothy is, is

  55. pastoring this congregation and there's like really crazy

  56. demonic things going on in Ephesus.

  57. You know, people were, were bound by fear.

  58. Christians were, were intimidated.

  59. You know, it was a, it was just a, a crazy spiritual place.

  60. So the apostle Paul is writing Timothy, who's leading this

  61. church, saying you have not been given a spirit of fear, but

  62. you've been given a spirit of power and of love and of a sound

  63. mind. Paul's letter to the believers

  64. in Ephesus wasn't to sympathize with them, right, but to help

  65. them understand the incredible greatness of God's power towards

  66. those who believe. He prays in verse 17 that we had

  67. read earlier that God would give to them the spirit of wisdom in

  68. revelation in the knowledge of him and in verse 18 that that

  69. the eyes of their understanding would be enlightened.

  70. And the entirety of of chapter 1 really is Paul dropping this

  71. mother lode of what God has given us right and empowered us

  72. with through Jesus. We've looked at chapter 1 and

  73. verses one through 18 and this morning we're going to finish

  74. this chapter with verses 19 through 20.

  75. So if you brought your Bibles, you can turn to Ephesians

  76. chapter one, verse 19 through 23.

  77. We're going to read through those and they'll also be on the

  78. screen here. If you, if you don't have a your

  79. Bible or a device where you can look at that, Ephesians 119, it

  80. says, I also pray that you will understand the incredible

  81. greatness of God's power for us who believe him.

  82. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead

  83. and seated him at the right hand or the right, the place of honor

  84. at God's right hand in the heavenly realms.

  85. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or

  86. anything else, not only in this world but also in the world to

  87. come. God has put all things under the

  88. authority of Christ and he has made him head over all things

  89. for the benefit of the church. And in verse 23, and the church

  90. is his body. It is made full and complete by

  91. Christ who fills all things everywhere with himself.

  92. That's some amazing scripture, isn't it, man?

  93. You read through Ephesians chapter 1 and it's just like

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  94. just one thing after another, you know, it's just like these

  95. these massive waves coming in, hitting the shore.

  96. It's so amazing. But just like the the church in

  97. Ephesus, many of us may not realize like who we are in

  98. Christ in what he has given us. But when the eyes of our

  99. understanding is enlightened, when God's given us the spirit

  100. of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, you begin to

  101. realize really the immensity. And that's what the apostle Paul

  102. is presenting us here in Ephesians chapter 1, the

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  103. immensity of what Christ has done for you.

  104. And this leads us to our my first point this morning that

  105. you need revelation of the power already for you.

  106. God's power is ready for you just like he has that, you know,

  107. there was that vascular surgeon and its entire staff on standby,

  108. right? God's there.

  109. Just stand by just waiting, right?

  110. You need me. Yeah.

  111. OK, Bam, he's right there. You need revelation of the power

  112. already for you. So the first half of chapter 1

  113. is Paul sharing what God purposed to do and what he has

  114. purpose to give us through Christ.

  115. But then in verse 19, the apostle Paul drops this absolute

  116. bomb. Ephesians 119 says, I also pray

  117. that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's

  118. power for us who believe God is so invested into you that He

  119. predetermined to adopt you into his family, sending Jesus to

  120. open this door for you so that his power could be leveraged in

  121. your life. Just let that percolate for a

  122. minute. Here's what I want you to see

  123. this morning. It's first that God's power is

  124. for you, right put up. Verse 9 is still there.

  125. Yep, The incredible greatness of God's power is for us.

  126. His power is for you. For you.

  127. God's power, not my power, not your power, not your neighbor's

  128. power, not the government's power.

  129. God's power is for you. Let that sink in.

  130. The incredible greatness of God's power, it says, is for

  131. those who believe. This is why John says in 1 John

    1 John 4 chapter mention

  132. chapter 4 four. He says you are of God, little

  133. children, and have overcome them because he who is in you is

  134. greater than he who is in the world.

  135. God's power is for you, and it's greater than anything or anyone

  136. or any entity, any demon, any devil, any religion in this

  137. world. Nothing has greater power than

  138. God. The incredible greatness of

  139. God's power is for those who believe.

  140. And when you surrender your life to the Lord, who is it that God

  141. sent to abide in you to empower you?

  142. Jesus said this in John 14 verse 16 and 17.

    John 14:16

  143. He says, and I will pray to the Father, and He will give you

  144. another helper that He may abide with you forever.

  145. And in verse 17 it says the Spirit of truth, whom the world

  146. cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows him,

  147. but you know him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

  148. Jesus is talking about the born again experience, the Holy

  149. Spirit coming to abide within you.

  150. The Apostle Paul says in One Corinthians chapter 3 and

  151. chapter 6 that we have become the temple of the Holy Spirit,

  152. that he now dwells within us. And because He dwells within us,

  153. This is why John says greater is he who is in you than he who is

  154. in the world. You have the third person of the

  155. Godhead, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, right?

  156. You have the Holy Spirit indwelling you, abiding with

  157. you, living with you. And what comes with the third

  158. person of the Godhead? God's power for you.

  159. He's present in your life every single day and in every

  160. situation that you find yourself in, He's there and His power is

  161. for you. Paul says that in verse 19, that

  162. the incredible greatness of God's power is working for us

  163. who believe and listen. Faith isn't pretending or

  164. denying the truth, right? Faith is choosing instead to

  165. agree with what is true. It's aligning your thoughts and

  166. your words with the truth of God's Word, with God, instead of

  167. the natural circumstance you might find yourself in.

  168. It's believing that God, supernatural is well able to

  169. override and alter any natural situation that we find ourselves

  170. in in our lives because God is greater.

  171. Do you agree with that? God is greater, Greater is he

  172. who was in you than anything else that is in this world.

  173. Anything, anyone, any situation, whatever situation you find

  174. yourself in, the incredible greatness of God's power is for

  175. those who what believe. It's all it takes.

  176. You know, there's a great scripture, Mark 11, verse 22

    Mark 11:22

  177. through through 24, right? Jesus says begins by telling his

  178. disciples have faith in God, right?

  179. believe in God. And if you then speak to this

  180. mountain, what will happen? Well, some of us have these

  181. amazing massive mountains in our lives that we're facing.

  182. We're looking at and we're like, I don't know how God is going to

  183. be able to deal with this situation.

  184. Well, listen, that's none of your business.

  185. Don't try to be God for God. Let him deal with all the

  186. details of how that situation is going to be sorted.

  187. We just had this wonderful testimony this morning about how

  188. God is sorting out all these details that Natasha and Andre

  189. could not have been able to do on their own.

  190. Right. You ever been to the hospital,

  191. any hospital here in Dublin, Like things move at a snail's

  192. pace, right? Just try to get a room.

  193. We had this 80 year old guy, he had some, some health issues and

  194. he, he went to at our church in Limerick there.

  195. He went to the hospital there and they didn't have any space

  196. for him. They didn't even have space on a

  197. Gurney in a hall. You know where they put them.

  198. They put them in a broom closet on a chair.

  199. OK, It is a miracle that Andre was able to get right in, had

  200. staff waiting for him, right? Was able to get a bed, was able

  201. to get moved to the vascular ward and all these things just

  202. happening. Hello.

  203. God's incredible greatness of God's power is for you.

  204. This brings me to my second point this morning, that it's

  205. the same power that raised Jesus from the dead.

  206. In Ephesians chapter 1, verse 19, the apostle Paul tells us

    Ephesians 1:19

  207. just how colossal this this power really is.

  208. For you at the end of verse 19, you know all the, the, the

  209. chapters and the verses. You know this was originally

  210. written as a letter. You know, people put in the the

  211. chapters and the verses for easy reference for us, right?

  212. I don't think they really did it very well on on this one because

  213. the end of verse 19 really is part of a verse 20 there.

  214. But put up verse 19 there says this is the same mighty power in

  215. verse 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him at the

  216. place of honor at God's right hand in heavenly realms.

  217. This is so wild. Like really, Apostle Paul is

  218. saying that the power that is for you, the incredible

  219. greatness of God's power, that is for those who believe.

  220. He's saying that this is the same mighty power that raised

  221. Christ from the dead. That is the power that's for

  222. you. What circumstance or situation

  223. are you facing? Are you dead?

  224. If you're dead, raise your hand, all right?

  225. Because this is the same power that rose Christ from the dead,

  226. right? So if it can happen for Christ

  227. and can happen for you, right? No one raised their hand.

  228. It's good. It's hard to raise your hand

  229. when you're dead. Paul prays that you will

  230. understand the incredible greatness of God's power force,

  231. right? And then he says that this is

  232. the same power that rose Jesus from the dead.

  233. Paul's making a a very amazing connection here, isn't he?

  234. That the very same mighty power that rose Jesus from the dead

  235. and obliterated the devil's power over death, hell and the

  236. grave. That that very same mighty power

  237. is for you. Incredible greatness of God's

  238. power is for us who believe. I've talked about this word

  239. power before. It's been a little while.

  240. I love talking about it because it's just a fun word.

  241. Here again is the Greek word dunamis.

  242. Dunamis is the the word that we get dynamite from, right?

  243. It's explosive power, it's miraculous power, it's strength,

  244. it's violence. Have you ever witnessed an

  245. explosion? Have you ever been around an

  246. explosion? It's violent, isn't it?

  247. It's powerful. If you go to see like these,

  248. these firework displays, you know, sometimes, you know, like

  249. one day I'd, I think it'd be cool to go to London on New

  250. Year's Eve. It's probably a pretty crazy

  251. time to go. But the firework display is, is

  252. just fantastic. You see over the London Eye and

  253. everything just, and then they do the finale and it's just like

  254. this, just massive, Like it looks like hundreds of fireworks

  255. just going off. You know, if you've ever been

  256. around where fireworks are going off, sometimes you can feel like

  257. the, the explosion, you can feel it on your, on your chest, like

  258. right. Like it's powerful.

  259. The end of World War 2 ended with two violent explosions, 2

  260. violent bombs, right? And they were so violent, so

  261. massive, so powerful that no one wants to see anything like that

  262. ever again, right? This is that Greek word,

  263. dunamis, powerful, violent. The incredible greatness of

  264. God's dunamis is for you. There's nothing that can stand

  265. against that. Absolutely nothing.

  266. This really isn't a fair fight. Just to let you know everything

  267. like if you were to weigh things on a scale, all right, God's

  268. power, all right, and everything in the world, the devil like

  269. whatever it is, everything like on the other scale, like gods

  270. would just there is there like it's it's not even any

  271. comparison at all. There is nothing, no one,

  272. anything that is more powerful than God.

  273. In verse 21 through 23, let me say this really quick, this

  274. violence that Paul is stating, this power is dunamis.

  275. He's saying that the demonic power that the believers in

  276. Ephesus were encountering were no match against the incredible

  277. greatness of God's dunamis towards those who believe.

  278. So when you're reading in Ephesians here, like, you

  279. understand what it is that the apostle Paul is writing into the

  280. culture that he's writing into the things that the believers,

  281. the Christians in Ephesus we're having to deal with like every

  282. single day, fear and intimidation and demonic power

  283. being demonstrated in that city. And the apostle Paul is saying

  284. you have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power of

  285. dunamis. He who is in you, greater is he

  286. who's in you than anything going on around you in Ephesus or

  287. anywhere else in the world. So in Ephesians chapter 1 verses

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  288. 2021 through 23. And the last point is Jesus

  289. changes the way that we fight our battles.

  290. You know, we had done a a series on Ephesians chapter, chapter 6

  291. a little while back about the weapons of our warfare, the

  292. things that God has given us to fight these spiritual battles,

  293. right? But Jesus changed the way we

  294. fight before, before Jesus, no one had any way really to to

  295. fight these battles. We were trying to do it in our

  296. own power, in our own own own own ability.

  297. But Jesus changed everything in verse 21 it says, and now he is

  298. far above. Any ruler or authority or power

  299. or leader or anything else? Is there anything that's

  300. excluded there? Is there anything that you can

  301. think of that's more powerful than God?

  302. Does anyone have anything? He is now far above any ruler or

  303. authority or power or leader or anything else, not only in this

  304. world but also in the world to come.

  305. So he's saying, listen, as far in the future as you can think

  306. of, there will never, ever, ever, ever be anything more

  307. powerful than Jesus. He's been placed far above and

  308. verse 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ

  309. and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the

  310. church. And the church is his body.

  311. It is made full and complete by Christ who fills all things

  312. everywhere with himself. Now let me ask you, if I were to

  313. stand on something, I'm going to stand on my Bible, is that OK?

  314. Right. We're supposed to stand on the

  315. word, right? And that was so.

  316. I have my head right? I have my my body, right?

  317. And if this has been placed underneath the head, then where

  318. else is it underneath? It's underneath the body too,

  319. isn't it? Right where you're the body?

  320. Christ is the head, and you are the body.

  321. You've been placed through Christ by him, not by your own

  322. efforts, right, but by Christ through Christ.

  323. You've been placed far above anything else.

  324. What is it in your life that is above you?

  325. Any need, any attack, anything? Is that above you?

  326. No, it's not. You've been placed far above it

  327. through Christ. That's the position you're being

  328. positioned. Everything that that Jesus has

  329. done is about positioning you. You've been adopted into his

  330. family, right? You've been positioned in the

  331. family of God. And if the devil ever tries to,

  332. when he comes to try to steal, to kill and cause destruction in

  333. a life, he's picking on a family member of God, our heavenly

  334. Father. And the God our heavenly Father

  335. doesn't take that too kindly. You're his child.

  336. So when Paul says that Jesus is far above everything, far above

  337. means that there is no equal right?

  338. There is no rival power, no demon, no authority, no

  339. sickness, no disease, no need. Nothing outranks him.

  340. This is what the apostle Paul is saying.

  341. The incredible greatness of God's power for those who

  342. believe Jesus changes the way we fight our battles because as

  343. adopted children of God, we no longer fight in our power,

  344. right, but we are positioned in Christ that the incredible

  345. greatness of God's power is for us who believe.

  346. This is why the apostle Paul is in this prayer is saying, I pray

  347. that you would have the spirit of wisdom and revelation of Him,

  348. that the eyes of your understanding would be

  349. enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling,

  350. right? It's all about position, but we

  351. have to know where it is we are positioned.

  352. Christ is the head and we are the body.

  353. Greater is he who is in us than he who is in the world.

  354. Jesus is the King of kings in the Lord of Lords.

  355. Like that's not just a title. Jesus is the Lord of every

  356. earthly Lord. He is the king of every earthly

  357. king, every government, every power, everything.

  358. He is Lord and he is king. And no matter what this world

  359. tries to do and tries to rise up.

  360. I was just reading a a scripture the other day about how the Lord

  361. laughs at the world and these governments who are trying to

  362. rise up against him and cast him off, right?

  363. Like their Lord, like their king.

  364. And God just laughs, right? Because they have no power.

  365. They have no authority, right? None of them do.

  366. Jesus is given authority far above.

  367. He has no equal. He has no rival.

  368. I want you to have in your mind and understand there's that

  369. scripture in Psalm 23, right? Yeah, though I walk through the

  370. valley of the shadow of death. But I will fear no evil, right?

  371. How can you walk in that place? You're walking through the

  372. valley of death. That's a pretty wild valley to

  373. be passing through, isn't it? But while you're going through

  374. that kind of situation in your life, you can fear no evil.

  375. You have this peace that surpasses all understanding.

  376. Why? Because God is with you.

  377. The incredible greatness of His power is working for you on your

  378. behalf. If you'll just believe in Him,

  379. Believe in Him, trust Him, expect from him that as a child

  380. of God adopted into his family, right?

  381. And we talked about this a number of weeks ago, adopted

  382. into his family that there are rights and privileges that you

  383. now have through Christ. And the apostle Paul is

  384. presenting these all through Ephesians chapter 1.

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  385. And he has this prayer that he prays for the the church in

  386. Ephesus and for the broader church that you would have the

  387. eyes of your understanding would be enlightened that you would

  388. know what it is that Christ has done for you.

  389. The power that he's been given to you, the power that that is

  390. for you. When you have a revelation of

  391. that, you will start to like live your life completely

  392. different and everyone will take notice around you.

  393. Because when everyone else is freaking out, right?

  394. And you're just the picture of calm right?

  395. Here you are, Andre on a hospital bed and he's assuring

  396. the surgeon, right? Oh, you've got this.

  397. You're going to do a great job. She just like what you know.

  398. But when you're walking in the peace of God, that surpasses all

  399. understanding When you understand that the power of God

  400. is for you in any circumstance or any situation that you find

  401. yourself in. Man, we're so thankful that God

  402. intervenes on our behalf, aren't we?

  403. Because that incredible power, that supernatural can completely

  404. alter and overcome anything in our natural Amen.

  405. Do you believe that? So what scripture says in

  406. Philippians chapter 2, verse 9 and 10, we'll close with this

  412. take away this morning. The point of what Paul is saying

  413. in Ephesians chapter 1 is that you are far more secure,

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  415. revelation of this truth will completely change and alter your

  416. life. Amen.
