  1. You're very welcome to today's Triumph Church podcast.

  2. We pray that you enjoy the message.

  3. Well, I'm really excited about today.

  4. This morning I'm going to be introducing a a new topic.

  5. We've been on the book of Ephesians for a lot of weeks.

  6. I actually don't know when we begin that, but we just finished

  7. that this past weekend. I hope it was a blessing to you.

  8. If there's some weeks that you missed, I really would encourage

  9. you to go back and listen to those because every week was

  10. just really power packed and it'll be a blessing to your

  11. life. This morning I wanted to reduce

  12. the topic of spiritual gifts. It's not really something that

  13. we've talked a lot about before in the church.

  14. There's just been a lot of other things that the Lord has had on

  15. my heart to talk about. And really we only have one

  16. service A A. Week.

  17. On Sunday mornings predominantly.

  18. So there's just so much what we can get through and I've been

  19. wanting to talk on this subject for a long time.

  20. And finally, the Lord is like, OK, talk about it, now's the

  21. time. But there are different ministry

  22. gifts. These are different.

  23. Sorry. Then the ministry gifts that we

  24. talked about in Ephesians chapter 4 and verses 11 and 12.

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  25. That's the apostle, the prophet, the teacher, the the evangelist.

  26. And I think I'm leaving one out there, the pastor, the apostle,

  27. the prophet, the teacher and the evangelist.

  28. But spiritual gifts are ministry gifts.

  29. The the, the other things are like a position.

  30. It's an office in the body of Christ, but spiritual gifts are

  31. for everyone. Those are those other things are

  32. ministry gifts in the body, but spiritual gifts are things that

  33. the Holy Spirit gives to everyone in the church.

  34. And we're going to talk about those things.

  35. And both the ministry gifts and the spiritual gifts, those are

  36. decided and distributed by the Holy Spirit.

  37. It's not something that you can decide one day.

  38. I'm going to be a pastor or I'm going to be an apostle, or I'm

  39. going to be a prophet or a teacher, or I'm going to walk in

  40. this spiritual gift or that spiritual gift.

  41. These are things that the Holy Spirit gives.

  42. He decides. All right.

  43. It's not like you can go. And you know, like my son Aiden,

  44. he's getting ready for university and he has to.

  45. Choose, you know, kind of what field that he wants to go and

  46. he's picking, you know what I want to go to university for.

  47. All right, but in the body of Christ, it doesn't work that

  48. way. God's the one that picks those

  49. things for us. He's the one that determines

  50. those things. But we're going to begin here in

  51. One Corinthians chapter 12. The Apostle Paul spent a a a lot

  52. of time in the book of Corinthians, his letter to the

  53. Corinth church talking about. Spiritual gifts really, because

  54. the. Church in Corinth was kind of a

  55. mess, all right. They had a lot of things going

  56. on. They were very excited about the

  57. things of God and and operating in the things of God, but they

  58. kind of did it recklessly and without order.

  59. And so the Apostle Paul. Spent a considerable amount of

  60. time in this first book of Corinthians addressing those

  61. issues in chapter. 1213 and 14 and it begins in one Corinthians

  62. chapter 12 and verse one saying this.

  63. Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about

  64. the spiritual abilities the Spirit gives us, I don't want

  65. you to misunderstand this. And it's really not that

  66. surprising that there are misunderstandings about

  67. spiritual things. It's not like something that we

  68. can we can see or or or really go to school.

  69. And and and study and see these things and experiment like we

  70. can with things in the natural right?

  71. Like it's easy to experiment with gravity.

  72. I can take this tissue box and I can drop it and see the law of

  73. gravity happened. It's something we all can

  74. observe, right? Well, spiritual gifts are a

  75. little. Different, but there's

  76. misunderstandings with spiritual things sometimes if they're not

  77. taught biblically or if they're not taught at all.

  78. And you have that happening in a lot of places where things

  79. aren't really taught biblically. In other places, they actually

  80. don't teach on those things at all because it's spiritual.

  81. There's some misunderstandings there, and it's something that

  82. people have a difficult time wrapping their mind around,

  83. right? But it's not something you can

  84. wrap your mind around. These are.

  85. Spiritual things, not natural things.

  86. It's easy to wrap. Ourselves, our minds around the

  87. law of gravity, isn't it because we see it, we can touch it, we

  88. can experience it how many of you have fallen that's the law

  89. of gravity happen right? But spiritual things are are

  90. different. So it's important that we.

  91. Stick with scripture, this is what God has given us as our

  92. manual. I can go to IKEA and I've done

  93. this a few times. Oh, this is going to be an easy

  94. enough piece of furniture to put together.

  95. I don't know how many times I do this.

  96. You think I'd learned my lesson, right?

  97. Go to IKEA, you know, and the, and the instructions are really

  98. simple. You don't have to read anything.

  99. It's just pictures, you know. It's pretty simple and easy.

  100. Right. But I don't know how many times

  101. that I started. It's just simple enough.

  102. I start putting something together, I get, you know, like

  103. through it a little bit, and then I realize I did that wrong.

  104. I probably should have just stuck with the manual, You know,

  105. don't have time to do it right the first time, don't have time

  106. to do it right the third time, but you have time to do.

  107. It right the you know the the third time, right?

  108. It's better just to do it right the first time.

  109. Just. Stick with the manual, right?

  110. Is there any other people that have?

  111. That same issue and and problem right?

  112. It's like I've got this one. Just stick with the manual,

  113. it'll save you a lot of time and energy.

  114. I just actually experienced this not too long ago.

  115. I put on some piece of a Kia furniture.

  116. I put the board on wrong and I'm like I have to.

  117. Go through an undo, you know, literally like 40 minutes of

  118. work to put it back together the right way.

  119. So let's just stick with the manual.

  120. It's the same thing with the things of God, all right?

  121. This is our manual, right? This is the beginning point.

  122. This is the end point, right? This is everything.

  123. This is what as Christians, we are supposed to live our lives

  124. by, right? This is what we stick with.

  125. If we don't stick with this. Then what are we putting our

  126. faith in, right? This is what we put our faith in

  127. because this is the word that God has given us.

  128. You know, don't put your faith in someone's opinion, right?

  129. It's OK if someone's opinion is founded on the word and it lines

  130. up with scripture, right? If their opinion differs from

  131. this. Then stick with the Bible,

  132. right? Don't stick with an opinion that

  133. isn't biblical, right? So here in the the New Testament

  134. church in Corinth, Paul is instructing this church in verse

  135. in chapters 12/13 and 14 in his letter and to every other church

  136. by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit on spiritual gifts.

  137. And it begins by saying, I don't want you to misunderstand

  138. spiritual gifts and I don't want our church to misunderstand

  139. spiritual gifts either. So we're going to spend some

  140. time talking about this. So to begin this topic, so there

  141. is no misunderstanding, we're going to talk about these three

  142. points today. First, we're going to talk about

  143. what are spiritual gifts. The second thing we're going to

  144. talk about is the box that Jesus operated within.

  145. And then the third thing is we're going to talk about the

  146. box that. We.

  147. Operate within. All right, so let's go to this

  148. first point. What are spiritual gifts?

  149. What the apostle Paul began to line out for the church in

  150. Corinth and for all future generations is he's lining out

  151. that box all right. He began to line out the the

  152. framework, the guidelines, the rules that govern these

  153. spiritual gifts. All right, Not to control them,

  154. not to suppress them, but that they would.

  155. Be a blessing to a. Church, you know, there's a lot

  156. of different, different churches that because there's either been

  157. some strange things that people haven't been responsible with

  158. spiritual things and have done different things and really they

  159. were acting naturally, not spiritually.

  160. There's been some churches that OK, we're just done with

  161. anything spirit. No spiritual gifts happening in

  162. in this church, right? But spiritual gifts are of God.

  163. Spiritual gifts are something that the Holy Spirit.

  164. Places in the body of Christ that places in each one of us,

  165. and its purpose as we're going to.

  166. See is to be a. Blessing to us.

  167. To help us, to encourage us. So to cut that off is to cut off

  168. a part of the Holy Spirit. Blessing and encouraging us.

  169. So we don't want to do that. Listen, I know there's a lot of

  170. weird. People out there, right?

  171. There's a lot of people that drive crazy.

  172. Does that mean that I'm not going to drive?

  173. Right. You just want to rely on public

  174. transportation the rest of your life.

  175. Good luck. It's a blessing, right?

  176. But sometimes it's just nice to drive somewhere, isn't it?

  177. So Paul's lining out some guidelines, some rules to govern

  178. these these spiritual things. Everything that God does all

  179. right has an order to it. Right.

  180. Everything that God does works within some kind of box.

  181. All of nature, everything we see.

  182. All right, has an. Order to it, a very specific

  183. order to it. If anything in nature operated

  184. outside of what it was specified to work within, life would cease

  185. to exist. On this planet, right, there's

  186. an order, there's a box that everything operates in.

  187. That's what God does. Scripture provides us with this

  188. guidance, beginning with the pastor and then the

  189. congregation, so that. We can keep.

  190. The church within a biblical framework so that everything is

  191. a blessing. To the church.

  192. Right, We want things to be a blessing.

  193. So Paul states the purpose of spiritual gifts in One

  194. Corinthians chapter 12 and verse 7.

  195. He says a spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can

  196. help each other. Do you know you all been given a

  197. spiritual gift? Whoa.

  198. I didn't know I'd been given a spiritual gift.

  199. I just found out this morning, Pastor Brad, that spiritual

  200. gifts are actually a thing. This is the first time I've ever

  201. heard about them. All right, well, the Holy

  202. Spirit. He gives you a spiritual gift.

  203. And that spiritual gift is for the purpose.

  204. Of helping each other to be a blessing, right?

  205. The gifts the Holy Spirit distributes to believers in the

  206. body of Christ are for the purpose of building his church

  207. up and advancing the. Kingdom of God, but what are

  208. those gifts? Pastor Brad, you're talking

  209. about these spiritual gifts. You've mentioned spiritual

  210. gifts, spiritual gifts, spiritual gifts.

  211. What are those spiritual gifts? Would you like to know?

  212. Paul lines these out clearly in one Corinthians chapter 12 and

  213. verses 8 to 10. He says, for one is given the

  214. word of wisdom through the Spirit to another, the word of

  215. knowledge through the same Spirit to another, faith by the

  216. same Spirit to another. Gifts of healings.

  217. By the same spirit and verse 10 to another the working of

  218. miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of

  219. spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another

  220. the interpretation of tongues. So there's nine different.

  221. Gifts listed here and there really can be grouped into three

  222. different categories. All right, you have the

  223. Revelation gifts. These are.

  224. God revealing something. This is the word of wisdom.

  225. This is the word of knowledge. This is the discerning of

  226. spirits. All right, it's God revealing.

  227. Something. And that's for the purpose of

  228. helping someone, isn't it? Then you have the.

  229. Power gifts. It's God doing something.

  230. This is the gift of faith. It's the gift of healings.

  231. It's the working of miracles. And again, that's God doing

  232. something to help. Isn't it to be a blessing?

  233. Then you have what's called the utterance gifts.

  234. This is God saying something to encourage, to exhort, to

  235. comfort. This is the gift of prophecy.

  236. It's the gift of tongues. It's the interpretation of

  237. tongues. You ever read this the book of

  238. Corinthians before? How many of you?

  239. Have ever heard. Any teaching on spiritual gifts

  240. before raise your hand? Yeah.

  241. How many of you have never heard any teaching on spiritual?

  242. Gifts. Yeah, few of you.

  243. Hey, I get it to introduce you a scriptural, biblical spiritual

  244. gifts. So this is a privilege.

  245. After listing these things, Paul gives a very important,

  246. important statement which is really key here to all of these

  247. spiritual gifts. He says in One Corinthians

  248. chapter 12 and verse 11, he says, but one in the same spirit

  249. works all these things, distributing to each

  250. individually as he wills. It's an important key there.

  251. That's in the new King James translation and the new Living

  252. translation. It says it is the one and only.

  253. Spirit who distributes all these gifts, He alone decides which

  254. gift each person should have, right?

  255. He alone decides, not me, not you.

  256. Not a personality test. Not some spiritual gifting quiz

  257. that you might have taken on some social media thing.

  258. The Holy Spirit alone determines what gift he gives you.

  259. And scripture says that he's given us all a gift, right?

  260. At least one, right? We're each of us the Holy Spirit

  261. gives us. When we become baptized in the

  262. Holy Spirit, He gives us at least one gift for us to operate

  263. in, to be a blessing to people around.

  264. US, it's he alone who decides that.

  265. And this is very important for us to keep in mind.

  266. We can't simply decide I'm going to operate in the gift of

  267. prophecy, right? Sounds really cool.

  268. I think I'm going to operate in this gift.

  269. No, it's the holy. Spirit who decides, right?

  270. We can't just decide I'm going to operate in the spiritual gift

  271. of the Word of Knowledge. It's the Holy Spirit that

  272. determines which gift that we operate in.

  273. He alone decides. They are given as He wills.

  274. And each of these gifts fall inside a framework.

  275. They fall inside a box that God intends for them.

  276. To. Operate within all right, and

  277. that box begins and ends. With Scripture and we'll go over

  278. some more more things here in Scripture, but the.

  279. All those spiritual. Gifts operate within Scripture.

  280. Scripture is what? Defines that anything outside of

  281. that is called unscriptural, right?

  282. You want to remain within the confines, the box of Scripture.

  283. This is where God. Those things are a blessing and

  284. are a help to people when people.

  285. Operate outside of Scripture. That's when things start to not

  286. be a help, not be a blessing to people.

  287. So that box begins in the framework of Scripture.

  288. All right. Now, the second point here is

  289. the box that Jesus operated within.

  290. It's kind of hard to picture Jesus operating within a box,

  291. isn't it? But he put.

  292. Himself in that box he came down from heaven and operated as a

  293. man in humanity right he operated within a box so let's

  294. look at John chapter 3 and verse 34 this kind of shows some

    John 3 chapter mention

  295. different things here John chapter 3 and verse 34 and it

    John 3 chapter mention

  296. says for. Jesus is sent by God.

  297. He speaks God's word, for God gives him the Spirit without

  298. limit. So Jesus was given the Spirit

  299. without. Limit.

  300. Isn't that amazing? Wow.

  301. Imagine having no limits on anything.

  302. Would you like to have like a debit card without?

  303. A limit on it right? Like.

  304. Anything. Everything you needed, wanted,

  305. you could just use it. Could never ran dry.

  306. It was without. Limit That would be amazing,

  307. wouldn't it? I'd.

  308. Like that kind of debit card? But Jesus, God gives him the

  309. Spirit without. Limit right now, soon as.

  310. Jesus begin his ministry is 30 years old and he was filled with

  311. the Holy Spirit. Scripture says that he operated

  312. in the Spirit without limit, but we'll see here that even Jesus

  313. operated his ministry within a box.

  314. So let's look at that box, all right, in John chapter 5, just a

    John 5 chapter mention

  315. couple chapters later, John chapter 5 and verse 19, it says,

    John 5 chapter mention

  316. then Jesus answered and said to them, most assuredly I say.

  317. To you all right, the Son can do nothing of himself but what he

  318. sees the Father do for whatever he does.

  319. The Son also does in like manner.

  320. Then a couple of chapters later here in John chapter 8 and verse

    John 8 chapter mention

  321. 28, then Jesus said to them, when you lift up the Son of Man,

  322. then you will know that I am. He, for I do nothing of myself,

  323. but as the Father taught me, I speak.

  324. These things I first noticed the the parameter of this box.

  325. Here I guess this. Is the box that Jesus is saying?

  326. This is the box, lads, that I operate in all right?

  327. I do nothing of myself. That's the first thing.

  328. Like he put a limit on himself. He was given the Spirit without

  329. measure, right? That's what Scripture says.

  330. That's what we. Read.

  331. But he says here that I do nothing of myself.

  332. He only ever did these things, what the Father directed him to

  333. do. That's the first thing.

  334. And what the? Father directed him to say.

  335. Right. That is the box that Jesus

  336. operated within. Whatever the father shows.

  337. Me, whatever he tells me, whatever he wants me to do that

  338. I'm going to do, I don't do anything outside of that.

  339. If he hasn't told me to do it, I'm not going to do it.

  340. And what the father tells me to say, those are the things that

  341. I'm going to say. If he has not told me to say

  342. these things, then I'm not going to say them.

  343. That's the box. That Jesus operated within,

  344. right? Do you see that now?

  345. Could he have done things outside of the Father's

  346. direction? He could have, right?

  347. That's a really. Good question, but what would be

  348. the reason and what would be the motives for him operating

  349. outside of what God told him to do and outside of what God told

  350. him to say? Why would Jesus do that right?

  351. Everything that the Holy Spirit does is to help people and to be

  352. a blessing to people. The Holy Spirit knows the

  353. perfect things to do to be a blessing to people.

  354. The Holy Spirit knows the perfect things to say to be a

  355. blessing to people, right? So we should want to stick

  356. within that box, right? Because we trust that the Holy

  357. Spirit has the perfect way to do the perfect things, to say

  358. anything outside of that, I'm not moving.

  359. If Jesus didn't move outside of those parameters, all right,

  360. then who am I to think that it would be OK for me?

  361. To operate outside of those parameters.

  362. I'm not. I'm following Jesus.

  363. Example. Right.

  364. He's who I'm emulating. He's who I'm following.

  365. So that's the box that Jesus operated within.

  366. Does that make sense? The third thing is the box that

  367. we operate within. All right, so let's look at this

  368. box because this box is smaller and it's tighter than Jesus box

  369. is Jesus was given the Spirit without measure.

  370. Jesus operated at different times in all of the gifts of

  371. the. Spirit in his ministry.

  372. Well, the Holy Spirit distributes us to at.

  373. Least one, but the odds of word? Probably not ever.

  374. Going to be operated in all of the gifts of the spirit in our

  375. life Jesus operated in those all the time right he was given the

  376. spirit without measure but we. Have it in measure all right so

  377. our. Box is is a little smaller and a

  378. little tighter, right? Jesus had this bigger box.

  379. The parameters that he operated within, well, ours is a lot.

  380. Smaller, I move this way, I move this way and that's the

  381. confines. That's where I'm supposed.

  382. To operate within, when we try to operate outside of that box,

  383. you know, maybe step into a spiritual gift that the Holy

  384. Spirit. Hasn't placed in our lives?

  385. Well, that's outside of our box. Let's not do that, OK?

  386. It never turns out good for the people that you're trying to

  387. minister to, and it never turns out good for you.

  388. Just stay within your lane. Stay in your box.

  389. Amen. So Paul kind of talks throughout

  390. chapter 12 about these amazing gifts, but ends this chapter

  391. with this. In One Corinthians chapter 12

  392. and verse 31 he says so you should earnestly decide desire

  393. the most helpful gifts, but let me.

  394. Show you a way of life. That is best of all.

  395. So all these spiritual gifts are amazing, right?

  396. But the apostle Paul says well. Let me show you.

  397. All right, the best way of all. And then he goes right into one

  398. Corinthians chapter 13 and verse one.

  399. All right, we put chapters and we put verses in here, so it's

  400. easy to find, right, If you're trying to thumb through

  401. someone's letter and find the exact place.

  402. You know, it can be kind of difficult.

  403. It's nice having easy reference points where we can just go to 1

    1 Corinthians 13 chapter mention

  404. Corinthians chapter 13, verse one.

  405. We can all. Go there really shortly, right?

  406. But this is a continual letter that the apostle Paul was

  407. writing. So in One Corinthians chapter

  408. 13, verse 1, he tells us what the best way of life is.

  409. He says. If I could speak.

  410. All the language of earth and of angels, but don't love others.

  411. I would be. Only a noisy gong.

  412. Not kind of funny, a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

  413. Now, if you're a drummer like my son is, you know, like most,

  414. most cymbals, most gongs, like it's a, you know, music to his

  415. ears. You know, he'd love to wake up

  416. to that every morning. He'd love to go to bed with

  417. that, you know, every night, you know, others of us.

  418. It's like, that's just annoying just to hear Dong Dong Dong

  419. Dong. My daughter, we went to the zoo

  420. yesterday and she got this, this, you know, new little

  421. stuffy, a bird, you know, and it's pretty cool.

  422. It's, you know, it's like looks like the actual bird and they

  423. recorded the sound where you push a button, you know, and

  424. it's the, and it's the sound that that bird makes and it's

  425. really loud, right? And it was really cute at the

  426. zoo. And I'm thinking I'm going to be

  427. listening to. This a lot coming up here like

  428. you know where I take her downstairs before church.

  429. We're going to Dunn's, you know, and she's doing it down the

  430. lift. We're walking through the the

  431. car parked in the basement, pushing that button, the birds

  432. making it sound we're going up. Going up to the shop, you know,

  433. making that sound, I'm like you might want to when we get in the

  434. shop, you know, just keep your bird quiet.

  435. You know, people are going to be looking around to see if there's

  436. a bird. Around, you know.

  437. Whoa, what was that? You know so, but sometimes

  438. things can just be loud and and obnoxious.

  439. That's not what we want to be. That's what we don't want, the

  440. spiritual gift that the Holy Spirit is having us operate in

  441. to be loud and obnoxious. Right, and so part of that box,

  442. all right, we, we have, you know, that's the same thing that

  443. Jesus whatever, you know, we see the Father do whatever he

  444. directs us, whatever he tells us to say, whatever he tells us to

  445. do. That's the box that we operate

  446. that within. But also it's the motive, you

  447. know, in there and it's love. Everything that God does is

  448. through the motive of love. Spiritual gifts operate through

  449. the motive of love. You have chapter 12, you know,

  450. the apostle Paul. Whoa, lad, you guys are a

  451. serious mess. You're like, you guys have some

  452. serious misunderstandings about spiritual gifts, right?

  453. Let's start, you know, trying to tighten this up.

  454. Let's start giving you some framework and some guidelines.

  455. And he starts giving, you know, those framework and those

  456. guidelines in in chapter 14, right?

  457. But in the middle. Of that chapter 13, it's all

  458. about love. Right, that's that cream, that

  459. cream feeling in the Oreo, right?

  460. You have those crunchy outsides, you know, but you have that, you

  461. know, like my my daughter, sometimes she'll take the Oreo

  462. part. She just eats the cream feeling

  463. and like discards the, you know, the crunchy part on the outside.

  464. You know, that cream feeling is nice.

  465. Well, what is that? Cream feeling in One Corinthians

  466. chapter 13. It's love, right?

  467. That's how everything is supposed to.

  468. Operate is through the motive of love and the apostle Paul is

  469. saying listen if you're. Not operating with that motive

  470. of the spiritual gifts operating through that, being filtered

  471. through that. Then it's just an annoying

  472. noise, right? Am I the only one that sees it

  473. in that light? That's how I, when I read that,

  474. that's how I see it, you know, So in chapter 14, Paul begins

  475. defining our our box further. This box is kind of getting a

  476. little tighter and tighter, isn't it?

  477. It's supposed to. In chapter 14, Paul begins

  478. defining our. Our box and he says that that

  479. box begins with order, right? Everything that the Holy Spirit

  480. does is to help is to be a. Blessing.

  481. And it has an order. All right.

  482. With that in mind, Paul gives us this instruction in One

  483. Corinthians 14 and at the end of that chapter in verse 40 he says

  484. this One Corinthians 1440. But be sure that everything is

  485. done properly and in order, right?

  486. Spiritual gifts should be operated in properly and in.

  487. Order and a massive part of doing everything properly and in

  488. order. Paul gives this rolling things

  489. back a few scriptures in one Corinthians 14 and verse 26, he

  490. says well my brothers and sisters, let's summarize.

  491. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach,

  492. another will tell some special revelation God had given them,

  493. one will speak in tongues, another will interpret what is

  494. said. But everything that is done must

  495. strengthen all of you. The apostle Paul has given this

  496. instruction because the Corinthian church was coming

  497. together and they were all wanting to give a.

  498. Song and all, wanting to give a word and it was just crazy and

  499. chaotic. Can you imagine if all of us

  500. came together and all of us came?

  501. I'm going to give a. I'm going to this morning, I'm

  502. going to have a song, I'm going to teach, I'm going to give

  503. someone a special revelation. I'm going to speak in tongues

  504. and I'm going to interpret right.

  505. Like if all of us. Came with that.

  506. This is going to be a crazy meeting, right?

  507. And it's going to go a long. Time, if you have your, if you

  508. have your roast in the oven, it's going to be burnt by the

  509. time you get home. This thing is going to go a long

  510. time, right? The apostle Paul is telling us

  511. that these spiritual gifts operate within a box.

  512. They operate in order, right? They're not disruptive.

  513. They're not going to detract. Or take away what the holy?

  514. Spirit is wanting to accomplish in a service, right?

  515. And, and every service can be different because we're bringing

  516. in different needs. We all, we all have different

  517. needs. We're all living complete

  518. different lives, right? And sometimes we need to hear

  519. something. We need to be ministered in a

  520. way. Sometimes the Holy Spirit may

  521. tailor and design a service for one individual and everyone else

  522. is like, wow, that was an amazing service.

  523. But one individual is like, Lord, that was that was for me.

  524. I needed that. Thank you.

  525. Right. But if we're coming together and

  526. we're just running this thing with no order, right?

  527. There's not going to be that ministry that's going to be able

  528. to take place. That's not going to be helpful

  529. to us. It's not going to be a blessing

  530. if it's chaotic. Right.

  531. Everything the Holy Spirit does has an order to it.

  532. A massive part of doing everything in order is, as Paul

  533. said in One Corinthians 1426, US doing our part in turn, right.

  534. You ever, you ever been to like an orchestra?

  535. You know, you have the the maestro, the the director of the

  536. orchestra stand up there. You know, they, they're not even

  537. playing an instrument. You know, sometimes you're like,

  538. what do they do? Actually, you know, they have

  539. this little wand. What are they like a magician?

  540. You know, like. What are they doing with that?

  541. With that thing, you know? Well, they're directing the

  542. entire orchestra, aren't they? They're keeping in time.

  543. You know, they're pointing sometimes to a section.

  544. Oh, our cues coming up, you know, pointing to another

  545. section. They're direct and everything.

  546. And sometimes if you watch a director, sometimes they're

  547. really into it. Like, aren't they?

  548. It's fun to watch them. I spend half the time watching

  549. them than the than the orchestra because they're like.

  550. Really into their their job, you know, but that's kind of like

  551. what, what a pastor does, right? There's the behind the scenes

  552. things that no one else has been seen.

  553. You know this. Isn't the first time the

  554. orchestra got together was the performance right They've been

  555. getting together a long time, they've been working out the

  556. parts, they've been working out different things well.

  557. Well, the director is the one that's directing that, so on

  558. the. Day of, he's just really helping

  559. them keep time and help keeping them in the place that they're

  560. supposed to be. They all know their parts,

  561. right? They all know what they're

  562. supposed to do. They practice it.

  563. You know who knows how many times before that performance,

  564. right? Well, that's what a pastor does,

  565. equipping you like right here in a church service, right?

  566. We're coming together, being equipped, and then you go out

  567. there in your life and you're doing your ministry, and I'm

  568. just standing here watching you. All right, All right, you do

  569. your part. Oh, spot on.

  570. He nailed it. All right.

  571. That's really good. All right.

  572. You nice? All right.

  573. Yeah. But it's all.

  574. With order, the Holy Spirit's amazing, right?

  575. We all do our part right. It's a.

  576. It's a really. Boring performance, you know, if

  577. only one, if only one instrument is playing.

  578. Well, why isn't all the rest of the organs?

  579. They're just sitting there, right?

  580. We all have a part. The Holy Spirit has given us

  581. each a part to play, all right, But all of these things have to

  582. be operated in responsibly and in order.

  583. All right, so I'm about ready to close here.

  584. But before we we close, there's something else that I want to

  585. get into. Then.

  586. This is really just an introduction to spiritual gifts.

  587. There's no way that you could really talk about spiritual

  588. gifts on just one Sunday morning.

  589. I promise this isn't going to be a 20 part series, all right, but

  590. we will talk about this. Some more and kind of go through

  591. those spiritual gifts because we listed, you know, gave the list

  592. of the 9 spiritual gifts there and kind of told a little bit

  593. about it. Well, OK, you told me there's a

  594. word. Of wisdom what is word of of

  595. wisdom right well, we'll get into some of those things but

  596. before I end this morning I want to zero in a bit on properly and

  597. in order within Triumph church all right I pastor Triumph

  598. church. I don't pastor another church.

  599. They may they're properly and in order may be a little different

  600. than our properly and orderly might be.

  601. You know, as long as it's scriptural, like that's cool,

  602. right? Like your personality is

  603. different than mine. If you.

  604. You know, like Sean's come up here and he's preached different

  605. times and he does a great job. He he preaches differently than

  606. I do, doesn't he? Right.

  607. And I enjoy listening to him because he is different.

  608. I don't want to look in the mirror and just listen to myself

  609. preach. I can do that at at home, right?

  610. Like I love listening to Sean preach.

  611. We'll have him minister again here soon.

  612. Or Pastor Amy, when she ministers, she ministers

  613. completely different than I do, right?

  614. Right, we, we each. Operate differently.

  615. Well, churches may have like a different flavor, a little bit

  616. different of a personality. And that's fine as long as it

  617. remains within that box of of Scripture, right?

  618. But it's the Holy Spirit. Who gives these gifts?

  619. And all of them are for our benefit and within the church,

  620. they come under the biblical authority of that church and

  621. within a church they're subject to. 1st the authority of the

  622. pastor OK, and then the authority of.

  623. The congregation, right? And it's everyone holding things

  624. accountable that make sure it lines up, that those things

  625. operating are scriptural and biblical.

  626. What does that mean, Pastor? Anything that's done under the

  627. umbrella of a church is subject to the authority of that church,

  628. all right? Because it represents that

  629. church, right? So if we have someone come, come

  630. in here who's never been here before, and they start going

  631. around and giving a prophecy to everyone after service, right?

  632. Well, people don't know. Like it's within.

  633. Triumph Church, right? And so if they're giving some

  634. things that are really strange, you know, spend everything on

  635. your, you know, credit card limit, you know, thus saith the

  636. Lord, and then you go out and spend your credit card limit,

  637. you know, and then you're like, well, Pastor Brad, you know,

  638. that was someone came in Triumph Church.

  639. And you know, yeah, that would be wouldn't be a blessing to

  640. you. It wouldn't be helpful, right.

  641. So there's things that operate under the authority, under the

  642. umbrella. Of a church in Hebrews chapter

    Hebrews 13 chapter mention

  643. 13 and verse 17 because we want spiritual gifts to be a

  644. blessing, right Hebrews chapter 13 and verse 17 says obey your

    Hebrews 13 chapter mention

  645. spiritual leaders and do what they say their work is to watch

  646. over your souls and they are accountable to God.

  647. I'm accountable. To God for you, dear Lord Jesus,

  648. help me. Just kidding.

  649. Just kidding because this next. Part, you know, give them reason

  650. to do this with joy. You guys are such a joy.

  651. Like really honestly, we have a really great.

  652. Congregation. But then he goes, and not with

  653. sorrow. All right.

  654. But really quickly, before we. Close I want to give direction

  655. for any anybody operating in a spiritual gift within Triumph

  656. Church. All right, Firstly, churches

  657. should desire that gifts of the Holy Spirit be present within

  658. our services because those things are to build.

  659. Us up. They're to encourage us, they're

  660. to help us. We want spiritual gifts in

  661. operation within Triumph Church. Right.

  662. And that means that all of us have been given.

  663. A spiritual gift. Not just me, not just Pastor

  664. Amy, not just Sean. All right, God's given.

  665. Our church, every person, every believer, a spiritual gift, and

  666. we're supposed to walk in those, but in that box because the Holy

  667. Spirit has a purpose. For them, all right, but that

  668. purpose is never going to violate the order and the

  669. authority of a church. So let me give you a few.

  670. Steps. Some guidelines, and I'm going

  671. to just use the word of knowledge, the Word of wisdom

  672. and prophecy as examples because you see these real commonly.

  673. The word of knowledge is the Holy Spirit revealing something

  674. to you either present or in the past.

  675. All right, that's what the word of knowledge is.

  676. The Word of Wisdom is the Lord revealing something to you in

  677. the future. OK.

  678. And then prophecy is a message. To edify, to build up and to

  679. encourage. The word of knowledge is the the

  680. Holy Spirit revealing something so.

  681. If you receive. Something from the Holy Spirit.

  682. It might be in a dream, it might be in a vision, it might just be

  683. that in your spirit you're, you're receiving something from

  684. the Lord. All right.

  685. A good rule of thumb for you to follow is never to act on that

  686. immediately, all right, Unless the Holy Spirit is.

  687. Telling you now you know. Otherwise you just sit on it and

  688. this is the first thing that you should do.

  689. The first thing is ask the Holy Spirit what he what does he want

  690. you to do with what he's revealing?

  691. OK, often times it's. Just that he simply wants you to

  692. pray to intercede. He's given you some information

  693. about something so that you're equipped to.

  694. Pray for that, all right? Sometimes he may have you take a

  695. step further. He may want you to.

  696. To tell. Someone, something all right,

  697. but the first step. Is we we take a step back and

  698. say, OK, Holy Spirit, what do you want me to do with this

  699. right because Jesus, how did what box did he operate it in?

  700. I only do what the father tells me to do.

  701. I only say what the father tells me to say.

  702. So we're. Operating within that box.

  703. Holy Spirit, what do you want me to do with this?

  704. Do you want me to say something? Do you just want me to sit on

  705. this? Do you want me to pray about it?

  706. What is that you want me to do? 2nd, if it's something major

  707. concerning someone within the church, you should consult your

  708. pastor, the Holy. Spirit likely has already been

  709. dealing with your pastor. About things.

  710. I pray for you all the time, right?

  711. The Holy Spirit reveals sometimes some things to me

  712. about you that you're going through that I pray for.

  713. Not to talk. To you about.

  714. That, you know, ring, ring, ring, ring.

  715. Hello, this is Pastor Brad. The Lord was telling me

  716. something. How?

  717. About we we meet up. For a coffee and talk about.

  718. No, it's for me to. Pray about right.

  719. I'm your pastor, right? Thirdly, if it's praying or

  720. speaking a spiritual word over someone within the church, you

  721. should have another trusted person with you.

  722. All right? Don't minister to someone alone.

  723. This is for the benefit of you and for the person you're

  724. ministering to. It's accountability.

  725. All right. We have some friends that pastor

  726. in a church in, in the States, and there's been a number of

  727. occasions where they've talked to Pastor Amy and, and myself

  728. where they have someone who's come in, they start coming to

  729. the church and they're going around and they have a word for

  730. everyone, right? How do you?

  731. How do we deal? With this like they're a really

  732. nice person and stuff, but they're going around and and

  733. giving a word to to every person that breathes in the church.

  734. Well, listen, the box that we operate in is if the Holy

  735. Spirit, if God, what are you telling me to do with this?

  736. I'm only going to do. What you want me to do, I'm only

  737. going to say what you want me to say.

  738. Right. But anytime someone comes into a

  739. church, all right, you're operating under that umbrella,

  740. the authority of that church, there's accountability there,

  741. right? You know, so it's, it's a good.

  742. Practice that if the Holy Spirit does have a a word, give us a

  743. word for someone. You know, if it's something

  744. major, like I said, come talk to the pastors about it, all right?

  745. If it's, if it's something that's that's not major.

  746. You know, and, and we love you and we, when we trust you and

  747. we're cool with you going around and, and giving words to people,

  748. then that's cool. But take someone with you all

  749. right? Because sometimes there might be

  750. someone who comes from the outside, right?

  751. They're not of Triumph Church. They don't have, they're not

  752. operating necessarily with the motive or love.

  753. They're not trying to be necessarily a, a help or a.

  754. Blessing to people in the church.

  755. And so if you see someone all right, who's not operating

  756. within that system, the buddy system, right?

  757. If you see. Someone from the outside OK,

  758. well, they're operating outside of the guidelines.

  759. The framework that we have that Pastor Brad is if if that's you,

  760. someone comes up and gives you a word and there's they're not

  761. coming with a buddy, you know, hold on, hold on a minute.

  762. Invite someone over, you know, or.

  763. If you have a word for someone, all right before you go over and

  764. give that word, invite someone with you.

  765. Hey, you know the Lord, I've been praying and Lord's given me

  766. something for this person, you know, can you come over with me

  767. while I'm ministering to them and praying for them?

  768. All right, like that's a blessing that's a help.

  769. There's there's trust in that right.

  770. Like it makes you makes you feel good because listen, another

  771. thing is the way we've been taught and I'm going to close

  772. with with this here is when someone.

  773. Gives you a word you know before we were traveling.

  774. But before we moved over to Ireland many years ago, in 2000,

  775. we were traveling around America and it was really interesting.

  776. You know, we'd stop and we'd meet different people.

  777. We were raising support to move over to Ireland and that three

  778. different places like some. Places gave us a a word.

  779. From the Lord you know they. They told us that.

  780. You know, it was going to be hard at first, but then it was

  781. going to be fun, right? And so Pastor Amy and I joke all

  782. the time, you know, Well, when's the fun part?

  783. You know, but it was like 3 different places right?

  784. Like was. That from the Lord, I don't know

  785. you know, but it's you know when someone gives you a.

  786. Word. It's I.

  787. It's going to do one of two. Things, you know, either it's

  788. going to bear witness with things that you've already been

  789. praying about and talking to the Lord about, and that is

  790. confirmation from the Lord. All right.

  791. If it doesn't, then you put it like in a metaphorically like in

  792. a jar and you and you put it up on on the shelf and you don't.

  793. Move on it, you know, and and you pray about it and you ask

  794. the Lord, you know. Well, if that was from you, you

  795. know, Lord, what should I do with that?

  796. You know, and if you don't get anything, you do nothing with

  797. it, you know? Right, that's good sound device,

  798. isn't it? But usually if someone if

  799. someone, someone has a word or something's for you, let me just

  800. give one more more example. You know, before Pastor Amy and

  801. I moved over to this part of the country, we were working with

  802. her, her parents in her church, her parents church, right?

  803. And a lot of you probably have heard this example before, but

  804. it kind of bears in line with this, you know, and over and

  805. that was like, I don't know, 2015, I think.

  806. And I always move really slow. I don't make quick decisions.

  807. I don't move really quick. I like to spend time praying.

  808. I like to make sure that it's the Lord that's leading us in a

  809. direction or telling us to do something.

  810. It's that box again, right? There's safety there.

  811. You don't have to make rush decisions, you know, unless the

  812. Lord says I need. You to move right then you move

  813. but we. Were kind of, we were kind of

  814. struggling because there was a lot of emotion.

  815. We were working with Pastor Amy's parents and we loved it.

  816. We loved Limerick. Where we were, we really thought

  817. that we would. Spend the rest of our lives

  818. living and ministering in Limerick, right?

  819. And so when the Lord told us, you know, we really felt like

  820. the Lord was leading us away from that.

  821. We're like, OK, Lord, what do we do with this?

  822. Like we were really struggling emotionally with it.

  823. The Lord. Didn't give us a lot of.

  824. Direction, you know on the. Way that we where we should go,

  825. what we should do. You know, so we were at this

  826. meeting and I don't know if you remember Pastor Sam, who was

  827. here in September speaking at our church, but he had a word

  828. from the Lord. He didn't know it.

  829. Who, who he was talking to, you know, but he was reading our

  830. mail the exact situation that Pastor Amy and I were in and he

  831. was saying if you don't move, you're going to miss the window.

  832. You feel like a square, square peg trying to fit in a, in a

  833. round hole. You know they're.

  834. Like, these are all exact words that I was talking to Pastor Amy

  835. about, you know? And as Pastor Sam was talking, I

  836. just felt the Spirit of the Lord.

  837. Come on me. Like such a thick.

  838. Presence. I've never, you know, it's only

  839. a handful of times that I felt the holy.

  840. Spirit like physically? Naturally, you know, like, come

  841. on me like that. And I just started bawling like

  842. a baby just crying uncontrollably.

  843. You know, I was thankful that I didn't like fall on the on the

  844. ground because I felt like it, you know, and I'm seated on the

  845. front row, right, crying uncontrollably.

  846. You know, Pastor Sam is probably like like here to Pastor Amy

  847. from me and I'm crying uncontrollably.

  848. He probably knew at that. Point who he was talking to, you

  849. know, it was to me, but I needed.

  850. That. All right, because we were

  851. dealing with a, a situation that was very emotionally difficult

  852. for us to do, to separate ourselves from her parents so

  853. that we could. Walk in the call of God that He

  854. had for us. Right.

  855. And so it was really difficult. I needed.

  856. That all right. So sometimes the Lord the Lord

  857. will minister to someone else. With a a word of knowledge, a

  858. word of wisdom, you know whatever it is so that you know.

  859. That's the Holy Spirit talking to me.

  860. I need to begin to. Move on this right?

  861. We didn't move that quick because of the next year.

  862. We went to this meeting and Pastor Sam was there again.

  863. He knew it was us now. He actually called us to the.

  864. Front right And he turned off his mic and just had a

  865. conversation with us. If you guys.

  866. Don't move, you're going to miss the Lord, all right?

  867. And the cool thing was all right.

  868. Like the Holy Spirit was trying to talk to us.

  869. I need you to start moving, you know?

  870. I know. You move slow.

  871. You want to follow me? Well, this is me.

  872. Hello. What do I need to do here?

  873. All right, you know, And it wasn't long before, you know,

  874. like too many. Years afterwards, all right, we,

  875. we moved over from Limerick, you know, stepped down from the

  876. church there, moved over here to the, the Dublin area to, to

  877. Klain here. And then COVID happened right.

  878. And we started the church after right after COVID.

  879. Well. We could have missed that

  880. window, right? Like if we didn't move, you

  881. know, COVID happened and we know what the lockdowns were here in

  882. Ireland. Like we had to move before

  883. COVID. The Lord knew that He started a

  884. process in 2015, right? Wow, Pastor Brad, you move slow,

  885. don't you? I do all right, but I needed

  886. that. All right, so these spiritual.

  887. Gifts are to be a help to you, to be a blessing to you, and

  888. when someone operates in them, all right, it's going to be a

  889. blessing to you if they're operating within that box, all

  890. right, and if they're operating through the motive of.

  891. Love. To help you and it's so good

  892. when a when a church body is operating like that.

  893. We need that all right. We want to not.

  894. Be just us four and no more. There is a lost world out there

  895. who needs equipped believers, right?

  896. Who are founded on God's. Word and know how to follow the

  897. Holy Spirit. In their life and ministry.

  898. That's so important. Amen.

  899. Well, I have gone long enough here, Children's.

  900. Workers are probably like Pastor Brad, when you going to end?

  901. All right, so I need to I need to wrap this this up here.

  902. Let's close our eyes. We're going to pray here.

  903. Definitely, Father. Lord, I'm so, so thankful for

  904. your word, so thankful for the the Holy Spirit.

  905. I'm thankful for all these members in our church, Lord,

  906. Father, who are being equipped, who are being sharpened, who are

  907. being prepared for the ministry that you've called them to and

  908. their lives. Lord, thank you for what you're

  909. doing through us at Triumph Church.

  910. Thank you for what you're doing through the the congregation at

  911. Triumph Church, Lord, and we just welcome you, Holy Spirit,

  912. to move in this church, to move in our lives.

  913. Lord, use us. Let us be a vessel that you used

  914. Lord Father, to reach those around us, whether it's our

  915. neighbor, whether it's our Co worker, whether it's someone on

  916. the street. Lord, help us to be sensitive to

  917. the Holy Spirit. Help us to walk through those

  918. doors with boldness that you open and help us to know not to

  919. walk through doors that are closed.

  920. Lord, we just give you all the praise and all the glory and

  921. honor. Jesus name Amen.
