Welcome to Heaven Earth Church.
-
My name is Ross Stackhouse.
-
I'm the founding pastor of Heaven Earth Church.
-
From the beginning, our heart was to be a church for people who
-
don't fit neatly into church.
-
Our heart is to meet people where they are, to learn their stories,
-
to honor their stories.
-
Because in every human story is God's story.
-
In this podcast, you'll hear more about the people who now call
-
Heaven Earth Church home.
-
Their stories, in many cases of misfits who are discovering or
-
rediscovering faith.
-
If you want to know more about.
-
Us, you can go to heavenorthchurch.org Otherwise, we
-
invite you now into the story.
-
Hello, good people.
-
Brad Miller here, the producer of the Heaven Earth Church podcast.

Church Catholic community is our Sunday morning conversations
-
taught by founding pastor Ross Stackhouse.
-
You can watch and participate in the Sunday morning conversation
-
this Sunday morning, 9:30am Eastern time at YouTube.com heavenerthchurch.
-
The audio version of the Sunday morning conversation is available
-
here on the podcast, which you can find at Apple Podcasts, Spotify
-
and on the website, which is heavenearthchurch.org let's join
-
Pastor Ross Stackhouse in part two of the growing what is Good series
-
called Growing the Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers of the Spirit.
-
Lord, help us to hear something that we couldn't hear on
-
our own.
-
To see, to understand, to live your heart, our heart, your spirit,
-
our spirit, your kingdom, your will, in Jesus name, amen.
-
So this is going to be like a repeat.
-
Some of you have seen this before, so.
-
But it's important that I show it again today.
-
Look at that guy.
-
Got a nice chili bowl.
-
Can't smile yet.
-
Having trouble smiling there.
-
You know, Part of the good news is that middle school is pretty
-
tough, right?
-
Very tough.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
High school's pretty tough.
-
Yeah.
-
I mean, so I went from this fella who.
-
I don't.
-
I don't know what I'm doing there, but.
-
And then I went.
-
And then.
-
And then freshman year, it went the other way.
-
Like, I became like a bean pole, 145 pounds, braces.
-
It just.
-
It didn't get better.
-
And then here's part of the good news.
-
We are not yet who we are becoming.
-
We are not yet who we are becoming.
-
Is that good news for you today?
-
Maybe not.
-
Maybe you're like, no, I feel pretty good.
-
However, we are, here's the part I didn't hear as much in church
-
growing up.
-
We are already who we're becoming.
-
What did he just say, is this guy trying to be Yoda this morning?
-
Some of the things I had in my heart at that age and that awkwardness
-
are still here now.
-
Some of the things I went through at that age and in junior
-
high are with me now.
-
When I was 16 years old, 17, I'll never forget, I was standing
-
in the parking lot between Triton Central high school and Triton
-
Elementary.
-
My buddy David and I were getting our football pads out of
-
the trunk of my 1998 Gold Grand Prix with 198,000 miles on
-
it.
-
Let's go.
-
And I said to him as I pulled my shoulder pads out, I think I'm
-
going to marry this girl.
-
This girl was Angela.
-
I did marry her.
-
So, like, we're not yet who we're becoming, but we already are
-
who we're becoming.
-
I knew something at that age.
-
I was wise for a second.
-
I wasn't often wise in those times, But I want to talk about that
-
as we conclude this growing what is good series.
-
Because I'm honestly, like, Ross, you're saying the same things,
-
yet you're catching on.
-
I end up saying a lot of the same things in here.
-
But before I keep going, I want to.
-
I want to ask you, where do you feel that you are in your life?
-
Do you feel like you're.
-
You're not yet who you're becoming, or do you feel like when
-
you're more on the other side, you feel like, no, I'm actually.
-
I feel like I'm closer to, like, the person I'm made to be.
-
Do you feel like you're far away from the person that you were
-
made to be in God, or do you feel like you're pretty close?
-
Do you feel like you've grown up into it?
-
For me, it depends on the day.
-
Online, people.
-
Wake up.
-
Let's hear from you, too, Bobo.
-
So Bobo says she feels like she's right where God means for her
-
to be.
-
Bobo's entire life is recovery.
-
She's blessed us with that.
-
And now she works for I got to be a part of her meeting and share
-
with the young folks that are part of thrive.
-
And it's such a cool group.
-
So, yeah.
-
What about you?
-
You feel like you're pretty close to, you know, your destiny,
-
if you will, who God has made you to be, or you feel like, oh,
-
man, I just don't feel like I'm there yet.
-
I feel like I'm pretty far away from who God's made me to be.
-
Amanda.
-
Amanda added option D, which actually I agree with.
-
Which is, like, I feel like I'm where I'm meant to be, but also,
-
I'm never going to have arrived, and that's okay.
-
Yeah.
-
What about the rest of you, Dina?
-
I'm where I'm meant to be, but I'm still learning.
-
You guys are doing a good job with the sermon today.
-
Glad you showed up.
-
PT Hello.
-
Yeah.
-
So PT has talked about a couple seasons of his life where
-
he could see, like, where he was going and he got there.
-
But he feels like in this season, there's a.
-
It's transition time again, where there's a vision about, like,
-
maybe what he's supposed to grow into or a plate of people he's
-
supposed to be alongside or whatever.
-
He's trying to discern that.
-
Yeah.
-
But else Amanda for times two.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
She added option either.
-
Which is, like, maybe in some areas or spheres of our life, we're
-
who God's calling us to be, but maybe in other areas of life,
-
we're lagging, and maybe we're.
-
And that might be okay, too.
-
Yeah.
-
Yep.
-
Good question.
-
I'm not sure what the original question was.
-
I was basically saying, like, at that age, I was.
-
I wasn't who I was becoming yet, and yet I was like, so where.
-
Where do you feel you are?
-
Do you feel like you're close to, like, who you are in God?
-
Like, do you.
-
Do you feel like you've got.
-
You're in touch, you're aligned with who God has made you
-
to be?
-
Or do you feel kind of pretty far away from that?
-
Hmm.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
Constantly feel like you're falling short, Feel like you haven't
-
arrived.
-
I want to transition on that and just give a ditto to Amanda's
-
thought and what other of you said.
-
Actually, I think everybody.
-
I think these were really wise answers.
-
You're wise.
-
Cool.
-
Oh, Jason, go ahead.
-
Oh, Jason feels like he fits really well in the God world.
-
Like, that makes sense.
-
Ministry makes sense.
-
It's kind of the real world that doesn't make as much sense.
-
And he thought, like, maybe that means I'm supposed to be a pastor,
-
but I'd rather die than pray out loud.
-
So what's up?
-
Maggie's on her way.
-
Hi, Maggie.
-
Who said that?
-
Oh, hi, Allison.
-
She's pretty close, but she wants to be closer.
-
Hey, online people.
-
You ate your Wheaties.
-
We got another one.
-
Let's go.
-
Ooh.
-
I feel perfectly aligned, but hunger for more.
-
We have five discipleship essentials in our church, so I want
-
to transition on that.
-
I Don't know if this ties to the sermon today, so help me, Brad.
-
Our discipleship essential number two is be humble, hungry and
-
willing.
-
It's actually healthy and spiritually mature to believe that
-
you haven't arrived yet.
-
Being a disciple is signing up for never having arrived and always
-
being a beginner.
-
At Heaven Earth Church, we have zero experts, none.
-
Discipleship, we're all beginners.
-
That's what keeps people well and mature and yet, like, part of
-
what we believe, what we realize as we grow into our gifts,
-
as we grow with Jesus, we realize that even as we haven't arrived
-
yet, we are becoming.
-
We are part of something that is so much better, bigger than we
-
ever dreamed.
-
So the more we grow into our gifts and we grow into, like, our
-
calling, so to speak, it, we.
-
We have this awakening of, like, man, I am part of something
-
so big in Jesus, and that's what, like, who we are and what we
-
do can be completely joined up with the extraordinary new creation
-
of Jesus.
-
We've been talking about that for, like, seven weeks now.
-
We are made to be a part of this new harvest that began with
-
Jesus's life, death and resurrection.
-
He's invited us to be, like, formed and reformed into the people
-
that he has destined us to be.
-
We talked a lot about that in discovery.
-
1 Ephesians 2, 10 says, like, we are God's handiwork or masterpiece
-
created in Christ Jesus for good works.
-
So, Jason, it's okay, my man.
-
If you're.
-
If.
-
If that's making sense in one world, then I think you're doing
-
okay.
-
If you're growing up in your masterpiece, identity in your ministry,
-
and you're joining up with Jesus, I think you're doing okay.
-
Here's what I want to talk to you about.
-
I want to show you how I got mixed messages, though, as a kid,
-
and I think this is important.
-
I got mixed messages as I was growing up that kind of flew in the
-
face of this.
-
So I want to say something that's a little more theoretical,
-
and then we're going to end with really practical stuff.
-
Are you with me?
-
When I was growing up, there was this message that we'd read a
-
verse like this, which is an amazing, amazing perspective.
-
First Peter, chapter two.
-
Dear friends, since you are immigrants and strangers in the world,
-
Jason, he's talking to you and me, bud.
-
We feel like weirdos in this world.
-
I urge that you avoid worldly desires that wage war against your
-
lives.
-
There would be the.
-
We'd take verses like this in the Bible, and I'd hear things like
-
in my growing up years, everything here is temporary.
-
This world is a weird place.
-
It's temporary.
-
It's all perishing.
-
So just remember that and wait for heaven.
-
Like, just endure this temporary thing so you can get to
-
the thing that's not temporary.
-
Anybody else ever hear that?
-
Maybe it's just me.
-
This is all temporary.
-
Right now you're suffering, your life, everything's temporary.
-
Just get to the thing that's not temporary.
-
Don't waste your time getting upset about what's temporary.
-
Don't waste your time getting too happy with what's temporary.
-
Get to what's lasting.
-
But you know what the message was with that?
-
That I realized I struggled with growing up, that none of this
-
matters.
-
Monday at 9:30am doesn't really matter.
-
Wednesday at 5:00 clock doesn't really matter.
-
Your suffering doesn't actually matter because it's just
-
temporary.
-
Don't, hey, don't mourn.
-
So during much, put a smile on your face because there's this lasting
-
thing that's waiting.
-
Folks, listen to me.
-
That is not the Bible's message at all.
-
Instead, kind of like Amanda did.
-
Amanda cheated.
-
Imagine.
-
So, like, Amanda took a test.
-
A, B and C were options.
-
And she drew another bubble that was option D and then put an
-
answer there and then filled in her own bubble.
-
And then she got to the end of the test and came back and drew another
-
bubble for E and then filled in that bubble.
-
I'm doing the same thing right now.
-
Here's really what the Bible says everywhere.
-
Yes, this land is strange and this time is fleeting.
-
We currently live, like, in an age and a situation that is not yet
-
what it will be.
-
Are you with me?
-
We're in the theoretical part.
-
If your brain's hurting, stay with me.
-
Okay?
-
We are in a situation, a land, a time that is not yet what it will
-
be.
-
Full stop.
-
The Bible is, like, uniform on this.
-
All this stuff is, in a way, perishing.
-
None of this as it is, will last.
-
But instead of a period, where's Heather at?
-
There's a semicolon.
-
See?
-
A semicolon.
-
Grammar nerds are like, dude, this is going to be great.
-
Semicolon is a separation of two independent clauses that belong
-
together.
-
This guy's getting way too heady.
-
I told you we're gonna get practical.
-
Kurt Vonnegut says never use semicolons.
-
It just shows that you're arrogant and you went to college.
-
I think I just did that.
-
There are two things that belong together.
-
Here's the point.
-
Yes.
-
What we're experiencing is not what it will be yet.
-
It is fleeting.
-
It is temporary.
-
God has started a new creation in Jesus.
-
God is renewing all things.
-
This situation is not what it will be.
-
But this all matters so much.
-
This land and this time are also destined for a glory that will
-
be revealed.
-
A glory that has already partly been revealed in the resurrection.
-
Yes, this place will ultimately perish.
-
And yet the fruits we have grown will somehow endure.
-
I'm going to try to be simple.
-
I think that was too much.
-
Yes.
-
There are things about what we're doing right now on Sunday,
-
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, that
-
are going to fade away.
-
There are more eternal things to be a part of.
-
So be about those things.
-
But realize the eternal doesn't just mean something way over
-
there after this life, it starts right now.
-
That's the Bible's uniform message.
-
Eternal stuff has come here and now.
-
So when you bear the fruits of the spirit, the Bible has this weird
-
idea that the fruits of the spirit that you bear now, Debbie,
-
will be kind of like the fruits of which we eat in the eternal
-
kingdom.
-
It's.
-
It's like you're preparing the Kingdom of heaven banquet right now.
-
My dad is a great baker.
-
My kids know this.
-
If you want a pumpkin bread, go to this fellow.
-
He processes the pumpkin.
-
Like he doesn't go buy the store bought pumpkin stuff.
-
That's for amateurs.
-
No offense.
-
This guy processes the pumpkin, makes the best pumpkin pies,
-
pumpkin bread all the time.
-
Long after he's gone, I will remember that our lives are like
-
that.
-
What we bake right now with our lives, the spiritual stuff that
-
we invest in right here, right now, in this ordinary time, this
-
strange land is joined up with the later.
-
We're building the kingdom of heaven right here, right now.
-
We are not yet what we're becoming, and yet we are.
-
How's your brain doing?
-
So.
-
So.
-
All right, well, just here's the practical part.
-
Let's just do that.
-
Okay?
-
So Peter's like, well, what do we do in this time?
-
How do we like, be a meaningful part of this time while
-
realizing that this time ain't it?
-
Are you with me?
-
Maybe that's a simple way of saying it.
-
This time really matters, but it ain't it.
-
There, that's the sermon about seven words or so.
-
First of all, let's read this right here.
-
If this time didn't matter, there's no way Peter would write
-
words like this in chapter four.
-
If this time we're just like, just get through it, Melissa.
-
So you can get to the thing later.
-
Why would he write things that I'm about to show you?
-
You may as well just bunker down and wait for heaven.
-
No, it's not what he says.
-
He says this instead.
-
The end of everything has come.
-
Everything as we, as we've known it is over with.
-
The new creation has begun.
-
Therefore, be self controlled and clear headed.
-
So you can pray.
-
I have, listen, I have, I think four points that are practical
-
and we're going to end on these.
-
I think there, I think there are four, let me see.
-
There are four.
-
They're all practical.
-
Hang with me.
-
First of all, what you're going to see is how Peter is mapping
-
for us a way of living, a spiritual way of living that actually,
-
that is tangible and concrete.
-
It's an inside out way of life.
-
So listen, I'm going to tell you a story that I heard about 30
-
minutes ago.
-
I know this guy who loves to golf, he loves to golf and he went
-
to go golf by himself.
-
That's his sanctuary.
-
And the like, club pro or whoever, he shows up that day, they
-
know this guy and he says, the club pro is like, hey, can you take
-
this guy with you today?
-
And my friend, this golfer is like, oh my gosh, I'm going out to
-
my sanctuary.
-
I don't want to drag this fellow along.
-
I don't want to do that.
-
But luckily my friend who's a good guy, he's not a bad guy, he's
-
a good guy.
-
Wise guy, not that kind of wise guy, not like good fellows,
-
like a guy with wisdom is what I meant.
-
He goes up to this friend, it's important to have wise people
-
in your life.
-
He's like, man, can you believe what they did to me?
-
I came out to be a part of my sanctuary and, and they're making
-
me drag this guy along.
-
He stinks at golf, I don't wanna drag him along.
-
And this wise friend goes, he's gonna learn a lot from you today.
-
His friend didn't co sign his stuff.
-
Be like, oh yeah, that stinks man, that's awful.
-
No, he said, hey, he's gonna learn a lot from you today.
-
This guy, his wife's friend demonstrated a part of what we're
-
gonna see here.
-
He didn't just say that on the fly.
-
He shared something with my friend that came from the inside,
-
from spiritual wisdom that was growing within his life.
-
That guy, his wise friend thinks all the time about people
-
first and he offered the fruit of that.
-
He doesn't think about himself only he thinks about People.
-
So I want to show you.
-
Peter gives us a map for the inside out spiritual life that blesses
-
people and God.
-
Okay, four things and we'll end with this.
-
Number one, he says in here, first one is be clear headed.
-
Point one, here's why this matters.
-
I like to think that I go to pray to get clear headed.
-
Are you with me?
-
I think that I need to go to prayer to go get clear headed.
-
He says be clear headed so you can pray.
-
Whoa, that's weird.
-
He's going first to the inside of your spiritual life.
-
I think that if I'm like, if I'm experiencing tension in my prayer
-
life, it's because it's my prayer.
-
I'm not a good prayer.
-
There's something wrong with my brain.
-
But actually I'm realizing what this says is that prayer is
-
the seed and it has to be planted in soil that you've prepared.
-
So like if you're running around and you're not clear headed,
-
you're frantically going and you're constantly multitasking, which
-
doesn't actually exist.
-
I read an article about this.
-
There's no such thing as multitasking.
-
You just switch between tasks really rapidly.
-
You're training your brain to never be focused on one thing.
-
How many multitaskers in the room?
-
Woo.
-
You're not multitasking anything.
-
You're teaching your brain to shift rapidly between multiple things.
-
Fake news.
-
Heather just said she doesn't want to hear that.
-
Actually, what I realize is if I'm practicing being present and
-
clear headed in all areas of my life, it's a weird thing when
-
I go to this meditative space with God, I'm more connected.
-
I still have my distractions, I still have my troubles about being
-
present in prayer.
-
But I added this daggone app on my phone that attacks me all the
-
time.
-
It's called the Be Present app, which allows me to set intentions
-
for my screen time.
-
It attacks.
-
I got it this morning already.
-
If I'm on, if I have screen time for an hour, it goes like.
-
Social media executives appreciate your act of worship today.
-
They shame me into not doing it, but actually it's helping me
-
to be clear headed.
-
We teach this as discipleship essential one guys, we wanna be shaped
-
by an inside out relationship with God by being continuously present
-
with God.
-
So if you're running around multitaskers doing your thing all
-
the time and you're like, okay, now I'm going to sit down and
-
pray, you're making it hard on yourself.
-
You're asking your brain to like shift speeds.
-
It's too much practice, awareness and presence all the time.
-
So that when you go to the meditative space, the soil is prepared
-
to grow the inside out spiritual life.
-
All right, three more points.
-
We got to go fast.
-
No, we don't.
-
What am I saying?
-
I just said don't go fast.
-
Slow down.
-
The Pacers don't play today.
-
They already won.
-
All we got to do is just chill.
-
Are you being present right now?
-
Are you thinking about what you got to do?
-
Are you multitasking?
-
Are you fully present here?
-
Okay, he did it too.
-
He said he didn't just go with answer A.
-
People are doing that.
-
They're drawing in the next option and filling in their own bubble.
-
Okay, number two, make love the load bearing wall.
-
Not.
-
Yeah, nevermind.
-
You know what I was going to say there?
-
Build love as the load bearing wall.
-
Yes.
-
Look at this.
-
Above all, show sincere love to each other.
-
Why would he write these things if this time doesn't matter?
-
Bunker down, hide out and wait for heaven to come.
-
No.
-
Start with the inside of your spiritual life and you'll know that
-
your spirit is growing.
-
If the load bearing wall of your spiritual house is love, he
-
says if you knock down the whole house, but that wall stands,
-
the house will stand.
-
I know when I look at people who are calling themselves Christian
-
in this time, the greatest indictment I have against them is
-
that I can see love is not the load bearing wall of their lives.
-
I can see it.
-
But yet Jesus also asks me every day when I'm present and I'm
-
clear headed.
-
He asked me in some way or another, hey, Ross, is love, Is it
-
it for you?
-
Because that's it.
-
All the scriptures agree on it.
-
Paul has this big long chapter, chapter 12 in First Corinthians
-
on Spiritual gifts.
-
But he says there's one that's the most important.
-
It gets read at all the weddings.
-
First Corinthians 13.
-
It's not about like romantic love.
-
In spite of what I just said a few minutes ago.
-
It's about like above all things grow.
-
Like, build that wall up in your life with Jesus's help from
-
the inside out.
-
You can't graft fruit onto the tree.
-
Let's let him help you grow it from the inside out.
-
Point 3.
-
Are you with me?
-
Look at that.
-
We went fast.
-
People had money on me going over.
-
You're gonna lose.
-
Make hospitality a way of life.
-
What does that mean?
-
So the story I told you about the golfer, the golfer was like,
-
man, I got my thing to do today.
-
I'm going to my thing.
-
This other wise person in his life does this.
-
The way that he demonstrates love practically in his life is that
-
people are always the.
-
What did I say?
-
People are always the.
-
People are always the.
-
They're not projects.
-
They're not a means to your end.
-
Relationships are everything.
-
Welcome people into your life all the time.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
-
Don't treat people as inconveniences.
-
I'm not saying be codependent.
-
Right, Bobo?
-
Don't be an unhealthy enneagram too.
-
That was part of Discovery.
-
One, be a whole enneagram.
-
Two, a whole helper again.
-
Sorry, dad.
-
You get a little airplay today.
-
My dad?
-
Hey, he's a flawed guy, if you want to know.
-
I'll tell you some stories, okay?
-
Funny stories.
-
Great stories.
-
Man.
-
I watched.
-
I have watched him do this my whole life.
-
I wonder why.
-
Like, how do I know Jesus the way I do?
-
Because I watched him do this.
-
I had troubled friends in high school.
-
People from broken homes.
-
People who were drinking and doing drugs.
-
And they would sit in my father's living room with eyes bloodshot
-
and pupils dilated.
-
And he would sit with them like they were the only thing he
-
had to do.
-
What's wrong with me today?
-
It's because I know this is the heart of life.
-
People aren't an inconvenience.
-
They are the only thing.
-
God made you.
-
The only thing.
-
So go do it.
-
Likewise, be present, clear headed, pray.
-
Let the fruit of love grow from the inside out and make people
-
the point.
-
And lastly, I made it to point four.
-
Steward your gift.
-
He says it here.
-
We tried to talk about this in Discovery one, right here.
-
And serve each other according to the gift.
-
What's the next two words?
-
Serve each other according to the gift.
-
What?
-
Ross, are you saying every single person has a special gift
-
from God?
-
Yes, and steward it.
-
I could never be as hospitable as my father is.
-
He can't teach like I can.
-
I don't see people the way my dad does.
-
I wish I could.
-
I'm trying.
-
Not there yet.
-
You have a gift.
-
It is so special and wonderful.
-
Some of you are enneagram too.
-
Folks, some of you don't know what the enneagram is.
-
And that's okay too.
-
Mark Knudson.
-
I told you this story 800 times.
-
He sees himself as a Ninja Turtle.
-
That's his gift.
-
He's in the shadows helping people.
-
So he's gonna steward that gift.
-
God gave you something so dynamic, unique and special to grow
-
and cultivate and Share.
-
It's not just for you.
-
It is for you, and it's for other people.
-
So, Jason, you're doing a great job.
-
Okay, Angela, go ahead.
-
Great.
-
That's an amazing question.
-
Angela says, is there a standard way to identify that?
-
No church has tried so, so hard.
-
Take this Spiritual Gifts inventory.
-
Have you noticed there's a multiplication of personality tests
-
out there?
-
How many people love Enneagram?
-
You just love it.
-
How many of you have no idea what Enneagram is?
-
There you go.
-
Myers, Briggs.
-
Anybody love that one?
-
No.
-
See?
-
Anybody love strengths finders?
-
There's no standard way.
-
We asked in Discovery One, though, questions like this.
-
What's something that you do that when you do it, you just completely
-
lose yourself in it.
-
You lose track of time.
-
You stop worrying what's something that you did or you learned
-
that didn't take much effort.
-
You have to work at it, but you didn't have to work as much relative
-
to other things.
-
Again, I'm disappointing myself.
-
I had never preached a sermon until I preached an audition sermon
-
in 2012.
-
Relative, very little effort.
-
Being hospitable to people.
-
That's his.
-
It takes him.
-
No, my dad shows.
-
He wakes up in the morning ready to host 50 people.
-
I don't know how.
-
Dad, can you bake 50 pumpkin pies?
-
Yeah, I'll have them do tomorrow.
-
Like, he's just born to it.
-
So relative to other people.
-
Takes him.
-
All this effort to learn stuff for you, it didn't.
-
And you get energized by it.
-
It blesses you.
-
It blesses other people.
-
Go take a personality test, too.
-
But reflect on your life.
-
What do you do naturally?
-
What do you learn with little effort?
-
What do you pour out that energizes you, fills you up in return?
-
Those are some of the keys to finding out.
-
Adam, listen.
-
Adam, hold that thought.
-
Let the record show you're going over today.
-
All right, Adam, go ahead.
-
Yeah, you guys showed up today.
-
Adam asked like, so what if I'm stewarding my gift or I'm trying
-
to discover my gift that God has given me, trying to grow up in
-
it, share it with others.
-
But maybe people aren't always reciprocating that.
-
I feel like I'm giving, giving, giving, giving, giving, and
-
I'm not getting it in return.
-
This map.
-
Yes.
-
Lifelong, lifelong learning on that, my friend.
-
Especially for the record, people who've grown up in trauma.
-
I'm just going to throw that in.
-
Yeah, but this map, I can't answer.
-
Let's go get.
-
Let's go back to what Was it called Burger Poet?
-
We'll go back and talk about it some more.
-
This map is great that we've laid out today.
-
When that happens to you, go back to the inside, shore up your.
-
The inside life, the inner life.
-
Like, and maybe that's like, maybe your prayer sounds like God.
-
I'm sick and tired of feeling like I give and give and give and
-
I get nothing in return.
-
Maybe God will like, meet you there and speak with you and say
-
like, yeah, that's a bummer.
-
It's a bummer, man.
-
Like the Big Lebowski or something.
-
God doesn't sound like that, I don't think.
-
I don't know.
-
Maybe.
-
Anyways.
-
But be careful.
-
God may also hold you to account too, about how you've done
-
it too.
-
And then God is going to build back up with you and me that load
-
bearing wall.
-
Love for God has love for us.
-
We receive that and then we can give it back out.
-
Great question.
-
All right.
-
Okay.
-
You are going over today.
-
It's tough.
-
It's tough.
-
Yeah, go ahead.
-
We're all weepy today, man.
-
We got a.
-
It's Jason.
-
It's so good, man.
-
You're right where you're meant to be.
-
If online.
-
You need to hear this.
-
Jason applied for like one job in his life and I knew.
-
I know it's the per.
-
It was the perfect fit and he didn't get it.
-
It said everything.
-
But Jason Baker applied for this job and you didn't get it.
-
And so you could have experienced that as like an indictment
-
on who you are as a person, but instead you went back to the
-
inner life and God said, whoa, whoa, hold on.
-
Actually, this is who you are still.
-
And you're doing it with me.
-
And I've watched you do it.
-
I met Jason when we both were serving for Bridges alliance of Johnson
-
county in 2018, and Jason was showing up as an ally to people who
-
were growing in that program.
-
I've watched him do it.
-
He's doing his thing.
-
PT Say it again.
-
Music was his life, but not his livelihood.
-
That's a.
-
Yeah, it's a great at supplement to that, Kirsten.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
Yep.
-
Speaking of lifelong learning is.
-
Is like learning to give and be aware of your expectations as
-
you give.
-
I always share this line from aa Expectations are pre planned resentments.
-
So like part of growing in maturity, the inside out life with
-
load is the love bearing wall is being aware, clear headed about
-
your expectations.
-
When you give, are you giving so that somebody affirms you in return
-
because you're insecure are you giving out of a bounty which
-
you have already received?
-
That's what the inner life and that load bearing wall does for you.
-
We'd better have communion now, guys.
-
This is great stuff.
-
Praise be to God.
-
The Holy Spirit is in the place always.
-
It's just whether we're aware of it or not, we're going to eat
-
this last supper together.
-
It's the meal that Jesus ate before he died.
-
I'm not going to run up there and do the stuff, breaking the bread
-
and such.
-
You know how that goes.
-
Jesus did all these things.
-
His entire life was practicing presence with God.
-
His entire life was one big load bearing wall of love.
-
He was hospitable to everyone, but prioritized the people who hadn't
-
been welcomed.
-
And so when he ate this meal, those people were with him at the
-
table and he was offering himself, he was offering his life
-
to restore humankind, to deal with death, evil, sin, to like offer
-
his life the power of God's love in the face of these things,
-
to start a new creation.
-
And so we eat this meal to remember that he gave his life to
-
start a new life for all of us.
-
So today you will receive a piece of bread which is symbolically
-
like his body.
-
You'll receive a little bit of juice which is symbolically like
-
his blood.
-
We believe at this table Jesus is with us in a powerful way.
-
So invite you.
-
This is a time to be present with Jesus, to pray in whatever way
-
you need to pray, to ask for whatever you need to ask to give
-
gratitude.
-
So in just a minute, Brad is going to be serving the bread which
-
is gluten free today.
-
All of it's gluten free.
-
But I think it tastes good, I think, right?
-
Yeah.
-
Some people don't like the gluten free wafers anyways.
-
It's all gluten free today.
-
Brad's going to be serving that.
-
Debbie, could you serve the juice, do you think?
-
Okay, thank you.
-
It's right back there.
-
There's hand sanitizer too.
-
So when you're ready, you can come up and get a piece of bread
-
from Brad and some juice from Debbie and then hold it and we'll
-
all eat it together.
-
We're just sharing in the Lord's last supper together.
-
First let's pray.
-
Lord, will you pour out your holy spirit on this bread and this
-
juice that it would be for us, the body and blood, the presence
-
of Jesus, pour out upon us your love that restores all things
-
and renews all things.
-
Be present with us and help us be present to you at this table.
-
In Jesus name, Amen.
