  1. Hey, welcome to the City Point Church podcast.

  2. Thanks for joining us. Every day is an opportunity to

  3. take hold of. So we hope this message inspires

  4. you and build your faith that it helps you have more of a God

  5. perspective for your day. Enjoy.

  6. Is there faith in your bones this morning?

  7. Could you declare out loud today?

  8. My heart is open, my ears are alert to grow and change and

  9. never be the same. Amen.

  10. Amen. Once you be seated and today's

  11. message, you know it's Father's Day and I love the honor to be

  12. able to speak into the the lives of the fathers of the house.

  13. And I'm pretty experienced in this realm.

  14. So it is worth listening and, and, and, but today's message

  15. isn't just for fathers. Like everyone's going to get

  16. something from it. I've got, I've got 3 points and,

  17. and three tips today for everyone and for you to take

  18. home and have conversations in the cafe after the service.

  19. But mums of the house, women, man of the house, youth, young

  20. adults in the house, kids in the house, you've got something to

  21. listen and lean into today. And before we get around our key

  22. scripture with which is in the book of Deuteronomy and the last

  23. book of the Torah and the 5th book of the Bible, Deuteronomy

  24. 6, if you want to open your Bible to chapter 6 of that, I

  25. just want to give you some context.

  26. Now in your Holy Scriptures, the book of Deuteronomy was written

  27. when Israel was on the opposite side of the Jordan to the

  28. promised Land. So Israel's on this side of the

  29. Jordan. They've won a few battles and

  30. they're about to crossover into the promised land that they've

  31. been walking towards for 40 years.

  32. And I don't know if you've ever had promises in your life from

  33. God or you've read the scriptures and it's like the

  34. scriptures have spoken to you about your, your future, you,

  35. your, your destiny, your life, your purpose.

  36. And it feels like you've been going around the desert for 40

  37. years. Let me tell you, the purpose of

  38. that is, is your learning, It's your, it's your sacrificing,

  39. it's your surrender. And because God had, when God

  40. has something greater for your life than where you are now, the

  41. same, you can't go into the greater realm.

  42. And so God needs to prepare us and mold us and shape us.

  43. And this is done through surrender.

  44. And so the more Israel was able to surrender of themselves,

  45. their desires, their their wishes and wants and of the

  46. things of the past, OK, the the more they were able to do that,

  47. the closer they got to their promised land.

  48. Now here we are on the opposite side, just opposite Jericho.

  49. Do we all remember the story about Jericho?

  50. They marched around the walls and the walls foot fell down.

  51. Well, that was the first city that Israel talked when they

  52. entered the promised land. So here we are before they do

  53. this. And Moses delivered his feet,

  54. farewell speeches. He delivered and reiterated

  55. God's law to the new generation of Israel.

  56. And this is where we pick up today's text in general

  57. generosity. There's a good message, Matt.

  58. Wasn't that incredible, man, I was inspired.

  59. I nearly went home. Hey, I thought today's over.

  60. This is awesome. Matt nailed it.

  61. Fantastic. Matt, you got a real gift on

  62. your life. You know that.

  63. And you're called and anointed. You're a storyteller, and I know

  64. someone out who was a storyteller and he went a long

  65. way and Jesus heads up and you're following in these

  66. footsteps. Well done, good man, good young

  67. man. And I'm Deuteronomy 6 versus one

  68. to seven. It says this now this is the

  69. commandment, and these are the statues and judgments which the

  70. Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe

  71. them in the land which you are crossing over to possess.

  72. That you may fear the Lord your God to keep all His statues and

  73. his commandments which I commanded you, you and your

  74. grandson, and your son and your grandson, all the days of your

  75. life, and that their days may be prolonged.

  76. Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it

  77. may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the

  78. Lord God of your Father's has promised you a land flowing with

  79. milk and honey. Hear, O Israel, the Lord our

  80. God, the Lord is 1. You shall love the Lord your God

  81. with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your

  82. strength. Let me say that again.

  83. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all

  84. your soul, and with all your strength.

  85. Now listen to the verse 6. And these words which I

  86. commanded you today shall be in your heart.

  87. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk

  88. of them when you sit in your house.

  89. You shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk

  90. by the way, and when you lie down.

  91. And when you rise up, listen, you shall talk of these things

  92. when you do the action of sitting down in your house, when

  93. you walk by your way in your daily life, when you lay down at

  94. night, and when you raise up in the morning.

  95. There's keys for us here today. As Moses is preparing Israel to

  96. enter the Promised Land, his greatest concerned is not the

  97. lands. His greatest concern for you is

  98. not even the promise that He has for you.

  99. His greatest concern for your life is not how well you perform

  100. and fulfill the promise that He has for your life.

  101. His greatest concern is not the land, but the next generation's

  102. faithfulness. His greatest concern was the

  103. children, fathers, mothers in the house.

  104. Today, God's greatest concern is what you leave to the next

  105. generation, to your children and the generation in the world

  106. around us. He reminds fathers and families

  107. that God's Word must not be heard only but be lived and be

  108. passed down. This is the heartbeat of

  109. Christian parenting and fatherhood.

  110. Is that your your faith not be just heard but be implemented

  111. into your children's life. I think this, sometimes we are

  112. just too concerned with the greater mission and not

  113. concerned enough with the immediate mission.

  114. It's one thing for me to stand up here and charge the whole

  115. church to the mission of the community.

  116. If I'm neglecting my own children #1 mission is my

  117. children. I love you, Church, but my

  118. children are #1 they're me. And God has placed into my

  119. direct care my children. Here's the thing about my

  120. children. They were there since the day

  121. they were born in my life. And they will be there in my

  122. life, in my memory, in my heart, in my action, in my motive, till

  123. the day I go to heaven. And then when I'm in heaven,

  124. I'll be judged upon the legacy that I left into the life and

  125. heart of my children. So in your life, whether you're

  126. a spiritual parent here today, just just a member of the

  127. church, someone new today, a father or a mother or even a

  128. child, we need to understand that our legacy has an immense

  129. importance from God and the commissioning from God.

  130. So .1 this morning is God's word must first live in the hearts.

  131. God's word must first live in our hearts.

  132. Verse six said these words shall be in your heart.

  133. Listen, faith is caught before it's taught.

  134. I've had to learn this. I've I've experimented with this

  135. and I I thought that I could teach just by telling people.

  136. And I've learned that my life matters more than what I say.

  137. Listen, my behaviours matter more than what I say and what I

  138. say reinforces the truth of my behaviour.

  139. Now what you say can RIP a person down, but what you do

  140. will lift the person back up. I've learned this.

  141. I can RIP a person down with my words, but I don't.

  142. I can't build them up just the same with my words.

  143. I build people up by getting under them and lifting them

  144. physically by them seeing my number one concern by the fruits

  145. of my life, the actions of my life and my behaviour.

  146. My kids learn more from me by what they see of their dad than

  147. what dad tells them to do. You know the old saying, we have

  148. this joke in our house. I think we're joking.

  149. We're joking. I'm we're pretty sure.

  150. I'm pretty sure it's a joke. It's a joke to me.

  151. It's no, it's a it's a joke. It's a joke in our house, right.

  152. But we, we often, we often say, do what we say, not what we do,

  153. but it's completely it's a joke. It's a judge me drink of water.

  154. You guys are harsh. The reality is as we say that

  155. because we know the truth is, is do what we do and let what we

  156. say reinforce that and bring strength to that.

  157. Does this make sense? And so, so faith is taught,

  158. caught before it's taught. Children follow what they see

  159. lived out, not only what they hear.

  160. They follow what they see the behaviour of our life, not just

  161. what we say. Why would you follow someone

  162. that says something that doesn't do it, that that discounts what

  163. they say because they're saying something, but there's no real

  164. value in that because they wouldn't do it in the first

  165. place. Does that make sense?

  166. And so people see the value in what you do.

  167. And then when you say it, it has strength to it and truth wrapped

  168. up in it. Psalms 119 Eleven says your

  169. word. I have hidden in my heart.

  170. And so sometimes we see that and we go, yeah, it's the word of

  171. God. No, no, no.

  172. It's what you do with the words, it's what you do with what mum

  173. and dad are saying or parents. It's what you you train your

  174. children to do with their action of what they do with what you

  175. say. It's hidden in my heart.

  176. Proverbs 423 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of

  177. out of it springs the issue of life.

  178. It's just interesting that what is in our heart, what we

  179. actually apply into our lives, out of that will spring out the

  180. issues of life. So we are to hide His word in

  181. our heart and keep putting it in us.

  182. So Father's Day tip #1 for the fathers, before you can pass on

  183. faith, you must know God personally.

  184. Your daily walk with Jesus will leave your a greater impact than

  185. your words will leave. Father's Day.

  186. Tim point #2 Fathers are called to impress God's word on their

  187. children. This is our #1 mission and call

  188. from God. In verse seven, the first part

  189. of verse 7, it said you shall teach them diligently to your

  190. children. The word teach means to sharpen,

  191. engrave and shape. In other words, we shape our

  192. children with the word of God. Does this make sense?

  193. There's more than preaching at there's a shaping behavioural

  194. thing that we do with our children.

  195. Passing faith is not automatic. It takes takes intention,

  196. consistency, and repetition. It takes intention, consistency,

  197. and repetition. It takes intention on being

  198. intentional right now, consistency on being consistent

  199. right now, and repetition. I'm repeating myself is because

  200. I I want it's not automatic that you're going to hear what I'm

  201. saying, but through intention, consistency and repetition, you

  202. will remember those three points.

  203. Does that make sense? So This is why we want to have

  204. intention and consistency and repetition in what we do in our

  205. life. Proverbs 22 six says train up a

  206. child in the way he should go. Keywords Frame.

  207. Is there any? Is there any athletes in the

  208. house? My hands down.

  209. There's no athletes in this house.

  210. Man, we got to work. We got one down the front.

  211. Can we put our hands together for Robin this morning?

  212. Leading the way. Yeah, I've learned this.

  213. I tried to run 5 KS with my amazing wife.

  214. He just runs it and she's running, she's talking, she's

  215. probably planning on her phone and and I unfortunately for for

  216. me, I, I just one K and I'm pretty wrecked.

  217. I can walk 5 KS. I've learned and and it takes it

  218. takes a lot of training, right? And so we are prepared to train

  219. when it comes to doing the park run every Saturday, you know,

  220. we're prepared to train how to understand the world of

  221. computers, mostly because we want to shop and get cheap

  222. prices online. And, and so we train for things

  223. in our life. When you get a job, you've got

  224. to train for that. But the reality is, is if you

  225. want your children to walk in the ways of God, we've got to

  226. train our children. We'll train ourselves, but we

  227. will train our children. And, and that might sound

  228. simple, but I, I can see that I live in a world where children

  229. train children and the parents are absent or working on

  230. training themselves. But let me tell you, because of

  231. your age, you have something to teach.

  232. Because of your life experiences, you have something

  233. to teach and so teaching or, or is it requires more than just a

  234. saying something? We've gotta train our children

  235. and fathers. I know you do an amazing job in

  236. this, but I reckon we can lift the ante in this church and we

  237. can just go. You know what, I'm not, I'm not

  238. going to pre chat my children so much.

  239. I'm not going to just tell them things so much.

  240. I'm going to be the example of this so that I can train them in

  241. the ways of the Lord and in faith.

  242. Amen Mothers, you can do the same.

  243. It will be good for all of us to do it.

  244. Unity in the house is a good thing.

  245. And so Ephesians 64 says, fathers, do not provoke your

  246. children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and

  247. Admiral, the big word there is, is it on the screens.

  248. There we go. You just read it.

  249. You read it yourself of the Lord.

  250. Proverbs 27 the righteous man walks in integrity.

  251. His children are blessed after them.

  252. It doesn't said say the righteous man talks with

  253. integrity. He said you can tell the

  254. righteous man because of the way he walks.

  255. He walks with integrity. And then what happens?

  256. Well, then the children are blessed.

  257. And if you're looking at your family dynamic or just being

  258. roaring and honesty, if you're looking at your family dynamic

  259. and wondering where the blessing, the real question is,

  260. is where is the example of integrity and fathers in the

  261. house today? I know that every single father

  262. in this house and mother in this house has it deep inside of you.

  263. You can rise up to this new way of walking with integrity so

  264. that your children will walk in your blessing.

  265. Amen. It's one thing to pray the

  266. blessing of God over your children, but God says, but I

  267. have blessed you through salvation in Jesus Christ that

  268. you now walk a different way. You walk by faith now and not by

  269. sight. You don't walk by what you see,

  270. but you're walking is exampling who he is and the

  271. transformational work. And when you know what I love

  272. the one of the greatest, I just cut myself off.

  273. It's weird when you do that right?

  274. But I, I just love seeing people when their lives are, are

  275. drastically transformed by the love of God.

  276. Like we just get this example so much in our in our church.

  277. Their lives get transformed and then they live so radically

  278. different, but they're so far from what we might call perfect

  279. or or they're so far from even the Christian living and life

  280. experiences that I have yet in an instant, because of their

  281. dramatic transformation, they example that they they shout it,

  282. but their life just they dress different.

  283. They change things at home. They throw things out and they

  284. tell us about it, but they don't just tell us we get to see it.

  285. Have you has anyone in this church seen people like this

  286. walking around the church right. And we it's just so beautiful

  287. for us to watch. You know, for me, being a

  288. lifelong Christian, I watch that and it stirs my faith to ways

  289. that Chris can't stir because Chris has been a Christian for a

  290. long time. And when I see these guys come

  291. in it, it's a new stirring of my faith of come on grain.

  292. Where is your example of trance with God has done so many things

  293. in your life for you to testify. But to show the world around

  294. this is this is where Miracle Services came out of.

  295. It's like my way to show the world.

  296. I'm like, well, you've given me a church.

  297. God, let's use this ship and, and, and, and just make a way

  298. for the world around to see the transformation that God has done

  299. in our lives because we want to share in their lives.

  300. Amen. Father's Day tip #2 Father's

  301. teach your children through regular conversations, prayer,

  302. reading of scripture together. Teaching is not only with words,

  303. but with constant example. Point #3 This morning faith is

  304. lived out in everyday life. Your faith is not a Sunday

  305. thing. Your faith is not a it's

  306. definitely not a secret thing. Your faith is not just a

  307. personal thing. Your faith is to ooze out of who

  308. you are, the love of Jesus Christ and everything He has

  309. done in your life. Verse 7, the second-half of that

  310. verse says talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk

  311. by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up.

  312. You know, I was praying about this message this morning and I

  313. believe God highlighted this to me.

  314. And he said that people focus on the talk of them, the talk of

  315. them, but the talk of them is not the full stop point.

  316. The talk of them is not how we do it.

  317. The the talk of them is literally words.

  318. It's the talk of them when you do the action.

  319. Sit in your house when Dad is home.

  320. I talk to my kids when you walk, by the way, when I walk to work

  321. through my workplace, wherever I go, I'm, I'm talking, I'm

  322. testifying, I'm declaring what God has been doing.

  323. You know, let me just throw out a challenge because I know that

  324. this can be really difficult for some.

  325. But I really believe that you have what it takes within you to

  326. just let this come out. And as you do the first and the

  327. second, the third time, you're actually going to find fun in

  328. this. But when you're at work, why

  329. don't you tell people about what happened at church on Sunday?

  330. When when people say how was your week, don't focus on

  331. Wednesday, focus on Sunday because Sunday set up your

  332. Monday to Saturday right it. This is what church is the the

  333. Saints come together, we rejoice, we testify together and

  334. there's the edification of the Saints.

  335. This is scripturally what what we get together for.

  336. And so on Sunday we are edified as the Saints of God in the

  337. mission and the purpose that God and the call and the the worship

  338. and our our connection with God. Let that be what how was your

  339. week this week? Oh man, it started on Sunday.

  340. Can I just tell you what happened at church?

  341. Here he goes again. And then you tell them.

  342. And let me tell you, by the end of it, they just be like, wow, I

  343. never get this in my life. Well, you can, you know, And

  344. then maybe on Wednesday you're not telling them about Monday.

  345. Maybe on Wednesday you'd be leaving, leading them to the

  346. Lord. Or maybe Wednesday's

  347. conversation would be an invite and Friday's conversation.

  348. But as you walk into the car to celebrate that great, great

  349. week, well, instead of spending all your money this week, why

  350. don't you come to church on Sunday?

  351. You know what I mean? It's so we can reshape our world

  352. so that there's not empty word, but there's words with action

  353. and behaviour into into wine together.

  354. Does this make sense? So people follow a transformed

  355. Christian. They don't follow Christians who

  356. just speak about transformation. I don't know about you, but I've

  357. seen a lot of people that speak about the goodness of God and

  358. the things of God. But then I'll watch their lives

  359. and they don't tithe. I watch their lives and they

  360. don't pray with their children. I've watched how they discipline

  361. and I've gone. Where's the grace and the love

  362. of God? And I've seen the example and

  363. the example hasn't lined up with the words.

  364. I don't like to follow words. I like to follow people.

  365. And this church is a church full of leaders, right?

  366. Could you just lift your hand up right now in the air?

  367. Just everyone lift your hand up. Lift your hand up.

  368. Yeah. Just everyone.

  369. Just just the whole lot. Let's just be crazy for a

  370. moment. Lift our hand to judge.

  371. That's awesome. OK, leaders, put your hands

  372. down. So passing on faith happens in

  373. the ordinary rhythms of life. God's word is not for one day,

  374. the Sunday, but for all of your life.

  375. Lift your hand if God loves you on Thursdays.

  376. Yeah, I thought so. I thought so.

  377. This is good. This is good.

  378. Joshua 2415. And As for me in my house, yeah,

  379. the youth, the youth know the Scriptures.

  380. Psalm 78, four. Does anyone, can anyone quote

  381. that one? So could you read out loud

  382. Second Timothy one verse 5? Oh, read it out, read it out.

  383. You should take as long as I take when I'm ready.

  384. Where did Timothy's faith come from?

  385. Through his mother and his grandmother's example, That's

  386. where Timothy's face. So Father's Day tip #3 father's

  387. at the table. Share what God is doing on the

  388. road. Talk about God's guidance.

  389. At night, pray over your children, and in the morning,

  390. begin with gratitude. Can I just give you, it's not my

  391. notes, but it's a really good example, a conversation.

  392. I can't even remember the conversation.

  393. Come on, God, come on, God, give me a conversation.

  394. I was driving in my my son's car just two weeks ago and I can't

  395. remember the conversation. It's coming though, right?

  396. Anyway, it's so we're driving in the car and Bobby and I were

  397. just talking. It was just him and me in the

  398. car and we just started talking about there we go.

  399. It's coming, it's coming. You know, there's a lesson in

  400. that. Hey, can I give you the lesson

  401. or day-to-day you don't you just keep talking the story.

  402. No lessons this morning. And so and so Bobby and I were

  403. just chatting and Bobby, I just said, how's youth going?

  404. And Bobby and any other music directors in the youth group?

  405. And, and I was just saying, how is youth going?

  406. How's your leadership going? And he said, you know, Dad, I'll

  407. just, I'll just watch you on Sundays.

  408. This is good dad moment right now.

  409. And he just said, I'll watch you on Sundays and I'll watch how

  410. you lead the dream team. And so I've just been doing that

  411. at youth and that's how I've been leading and it's been

  412. working. It's been good.

  413. And I said, yeah, yeah, yeah. Keep leaning into Dad, Bobby.

  414. He knows what he's doing. And learn, learn from my

  415. failures because I've done all the mistakes, right?

  416. I'm still doing some at the moment.

  417. But as I learn, you know, if your children can follow in your

  418. footsteps, they build upon our mistakes into a greater future.

  419. Amen. Let me tell you, there is no

  420. mistakes in the mistakes that you've made in your life.

  421. Now some people in this room, they're like, whoa, Pastor Gray,

  422. that's a massive statement. You, you don't really understand

  423. what I've done. Let me tell you, I understand

  424. the Redeemer and what he has done and what he does.

  425. Your mistakes with God or without God, you still did them

  426. all right? So they've happened.

  427. But he turns all things together for good.

  428. And when the Scripture says he turns all things together for

  429. good, he doesn't mean, but that he means absolutely anything

  430. that you would bring to him. He will turn it together for

  431. good. Every time you've slept with

  432. someone, he will turn that together for good.

  433. Every time you've pulled someone down, he will turn that together

  434. for good. He will take these things and he

  435. will turn them around to be examples that your children will

  436. learn from so that they do not have to fulfil what you you

  437. fulfilled in your life. Amen.

  438. You can tell them the right thing, but when they see God

  439. redeem you and I form the wrong thing and see our reactions to

  440. that, that them is the greatest examples of faith that they

  441. could ever have in this world. And you know what I think?

  442. I think this world talks just too much.

  443. I'm not talking about the church.

  444. This world talks so much and with their words of you should

  445. do this, 5 minutes later YouTube says you should do that, 6

  446. minutes later Facebook says you should do that.

  447. And there's so many examples and, and untangible words and

  448. examples and instructions out there that our generation or

  449. this generation thinks that the words and, and what people say

  450. holds truth. But when the church comes along

  451. and we example the transformational power of God in

  452. our lives, the world goes whoa. And it blows their minds because

  453. they don't see the positives of transformation.

  454. They only see the negatives of when people follow empty words.

  455. Does this make sense? And so as the church in as as

  456. you being part of the church fathers in your house today,

  457. when you example what God has done in your life, that isn't

  458. just a good thing. It's a mind blowing world

  459. changing thing to this generation.

  460. This generation has been built on words, but it's going to be

  461. transformed through the power of God that transforms people's

  462. lives. Amen.

  463. Do you accept that this morning as as like a bit of a

  464. commissioning over your life that I am more than what I say,

  465. but I am what I do and what God has done through my life?

  466. Let me just bring one more Scripture this morning from the

  467. apostle John. The apostle John wrote in three,

  468. John one to four in the amplified version.

  469. I have no greater joy than this to hear that my spiritual

  470. children are living after they're living their lives in

  471. the truth. It doesn't say I have no greater

  472. joy than this to hear what's on the mouth of my children.

  473. It says. But to see, to hear my that my

  474. spiritual children are living their faith.

  475. They're not speaking about faith.

  476. Yeah, God can do it, but they are living it.

  477. Look what God has done. Amen.

  478. And I think sometimes when we read the scriptures, we stop at

  479. the hearing, we stop at the the speaking and the stop at.

  480. But we, we need to see that that is always uplifting A behaviour.

  481. It's always uplifting what the transformational truth of the

  482. word of God is. So three things to remember

  483. today. Number one, let His word live in

  484. your heart #2 and press it on your children.

  485. Don't just say it and press it on the stampum, right?

  486. And #3 teach it daily in ordinary life.

  487. Listen, your faith today shapes your children's tomorrow.

  488. Your faith today shapes your children's tomorrow.

  489. Amen. You receive that today when we

  490. close our eyes here this morning.

  491. Let me pray Father, I just want to pray a blessing, Lord God,

  492. over all the parents and spiritual parents and foster

  493. parents and grandparents, father and over the dads.

  494. Father, I just want to thank you for this honour of being a

  495. father to children that you've given, You've given me and all

  496. of us men such a great responsibility.

  497. It's a great responsibility. It's big, it's great.

  498. And Father, I thank you for that.

  499. You would see us as worthy as being the man of houses, being

  500. husbands and being fathers. And so, Father God, I just pray

  501. a blessing right now over all the fathers of the house, that

  502. Father, that you would strengthen us as you

  503. strengthened your son, that you would gift us as you've gifted

  504. your son Jesus, That you would empower us continually as you've

  505. empowered your son Jesus. And that you would help us walk

  506. out the truth of who you are as we saw example in Jesus.

  507. And Father, I just pray this blessing over all the fathers of

  508. the house today and the strength that I know is in US.

  509. I call it out today. Lord Godfather, people from

  510. broken marriages. Father Godfather, I just thank

  511. you for your your faith right now to just infuse all these men

  512. and all the women as well. Lord God, the the brokenness is

  513. not a brokenness between you and us.

  514. But Father, in that you said that when we are weak, then you

  515. are strong, You're always strong.

  516. But we get to see it in that moment.

  517. So Father, all the single dads in the house, I thank you for

  518. them and I pray an immense blessing upon them.

  519. Lord God, amazing man and women, but amazing men today, Lord God

  520. that would rise up and say, you know what, I'm going to example

  521. what it is to live with Jesus Christ in spite situations and I

  522. thank you for a strength in them all gone.

  523. And Father, I just thank you for what you've done in all of our

  524. lives in Jesus name, you know.
