singles ministry. Thank you for your
initiative uh to connect and to join us.
Uh we feel very encouraged uh that you
are here and we look forward uh to
creating connections and friendships uh
having a rhythm where we see each other.

So, estamos en el evangelio de Mateo y
llegamos ahora a un pasaje muy
importante y aprecio la bienvenida que
habló de mesas porque es exactamente
parte de la escritura que vamos a
estudiar hoy. Appreciate welcome
that is of God because that is what
we're going to be uh studying out here
today. Amen. [resoplido] So we've been
studying the Gospel of Matthew um and
every time we uh read a passage we try
to find Christian art uh that helps us
discern and see uh one the beauty of art
uh and also it's it's an intentional
move to try and see uh the artistry of
scripture uh rather than think of
scripture as this science and formula,
is this beautiful ongoing living story
of the living present God.
Not a scientific articulation of
existence and things like that. Though
that's there's a space for that. But the
scripture reveals who God is in stories,
in narratives, in poetry and says a lot
about who God is. Just like when you
tell your story to someone, you don't
explain formulas. Maybe you talk about
the weather, maybe you talk about ages
and things like that or what do you do
for work. But when it gets real, what do
you do? You tell your story,
you tell your upbringing, your
relationships. Because without story
there is no relationships. You can't get
deep without sharing one another story.
And so the living present continues to
reveal God to us through. Vamos a

Jesus and Peter. Vemos a Jesús y a Pedro
y después vemos a cinco hombres. Then we
see five other men. They're not dressed
like Jesus and Peter because they're
dressed in the way that people dressed
during the time of the paintering
artistic move that comes to us in every
generation every place every time.
Entonces vemos que Jesús y Pedro están

y Adán solo lo que tiene que hacer es
subir el dedito y toca a Dios y no lo
hace o sí lo hace, pero es porque tú y
yo tomamos esa decisión si aceptamos a
Dios o no. Pero Dios nos llama a todos.
Ve a los cinco.
Los dos de este lado
están viendo a Jesús.
Jesá
de Jesús.
Y si es Mateo, ¿a quién le está
apuntando?
a sí mismo
al otro.
El joven Mateo está colectando, que los
dos son Mateo y el otro, el más grande
es Mateo, el que recibe el llamado de
Jesús.
Sus pies, ¿en qué movimiento están?
Jesus.
or away from Jesus. To me, the one there
looks like he's going away from Jesus.
Matthew in the middle looks like he's
going towards Jesus.
And the other guy collecting coins, he's
just sitting there not moving.
You see all that? So, the beauty of of
storytelling, and look at Jesus's feet.
Where is he moving towards? I see him
walking out of the door because he calls
us and says, "What?

to what is the scripture saying? What is
it saying to me? Right? It doesn't mean
that whoever interprets whatever that's
your interpretation and that's true.
That's not what I'm saying. But it's the
curiosity of what is the living God
saying to all of us? And that is a
posture that we want to have in reading
scripture. Vamos a leer. We're gna read
Matthew 9 verse 9 Mateo 9 versículo 9.

Matthew 9:9

And as we read, antes a leer, vamos a
ver a dos
grupos nuevos en esta interacción.
Hemos visto a dos grupos antes.
puts the demons on the pigs that the
pigs fall into the ocean to their
spiritual death no longer to to uh harm
God's creation.
And so there's a lot of symbolism there.
Ocean represents the abys death. So
that's why they're sent there. So if
you're sentimental about the piggies,
you may miss point.
And then soon after when the town finds
out what Jesus did, they kick Jesus out.
They they plee with him. Please, please
leave us.
They don't ask anything. They just ask
Jesus to leave. So we like to use props
every now and then. So these are those
people garodes who just God came to
them, heal them, restore their
community.
Y esto representa a ese grupo que

So Jesus gets on the boat, they cross
the lake again and he they uh guys bring
a man who's paralyzed and Jesus says,
"Your sins are forgiven."
And there's no way of knowing if his
sins are forgiven or not. So what does
Jesus do? He heals this man and gets him
to walk so that if he's able to get this
man to walk, then what he said earlier
was true, which was what? your sins are
forgiven.
So that miraculous sign was to prove
that in fact Jesus can't forgive sins.
And then there's another group there.
They're called the scribes or the
teachers of the law. And they say,
"Blesshemy,
you're offending God. You should only
God can forgive sins. So, what did they
just miss?

sino a pecadores." Vamos a detenernos
ahí antes de continuar.

at the text collector's booth. Follow
me. He told him and Matthew what?
Got up and followed him.
While Jesus was having dinner at
Matthew's house, many tax collectors and
sinners came in with him and as his
disciples. When the Pharisees saw this,
they asked his disciples, "Why does our
Lord? Why does your Lord?" No, why does
what? You're a teacher that tells you a
lot about what they're discerning. Eat
with tax collectors and sinners. You're
not supposed to eat with them.
On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not
the healthy who need a doctor, but the
sick. But go and learn what this means.
I desire mercy, not sacrifice, for not
come to call the righteous but the
sinners."
Conocemos un tercer grupo. [resoplido]

And so we see this the phisee group
encounter.

ellos? Llegará el día en que se les
quitará el novio, entonces sí ayunarán.
Nadie remienda un vestido viejo con un
retazo de la tela nueva, porque el
remiendo
ah fruncirá el vestido y la y la rotura
será peor. Ni tampoco se echa vino en
nuevos odres viejos.
De hacerlo así, se reventarán los odres,
se dermará el vino y los odres se
arruinarán. Más bien, el vino nuevo se
echa en ordes nuevos y así ambos se
conservan.
Then John's disciples came and asked
him. So there's the fourth group. How is
it that we and the Pharisees fast often?
Tells you about the devotion of the
Pharisees.
But your disciples do not fast. Jesus
answered. How can the guest of the
bridegroom mourn while he is with them?
The time will come where the bright
groom will be taken from them uh
foreshading the assassination in the
cross. Then they will fast.
No one sews a patch of unschrunk cloth
on an old garment for that patch will uh
pull away from that garment making the
tear worse. Of course we don't really do
this anymore. We just throw it away in
Amazon on a ship another order. Need do
people pour new wine into old wine
skins? If they do, the skins will burst.
The wine will run out and the wine skins
will be ruined. No, they pour new wine
into new wine skins and both are
preserved. So conocemos al cuarto grupo.
So we group
John the Baptist.

En medio de estos cuatro grupos,
Jesus, el grupo de Jesús,
la mesa de Jesús, Lord,
mericia.
a table of second chances,
una mesa de segundas oportunidades
y depende cómo eres, de cuarta, quinta,
sexta, 12.
Una mesa que [carraspeo]
es totalmente diferente a estos cuatro
grupos.
una mesa que en realidad tiene mucho en
común con tres de estos cuatro grupos,

pero una mesa
donde está quién
Jesús.
No es una mesa donde hay obligaciones y
reglas,
es una mesa de relación.
Es una mesa de compartir. Es una mesa de
transformación.
Pero si es una mesa de altas
expectativas.
tiene expectativas más altas que estos
tres grupos.
Lord. Y no es fácil dejar tu grupo y tu
postura para ser parte de la mesa de
Jesús. Todos son invitados.
Pero no todos dejan su grupo para ser
parte de un nuevo grupo.
table. But more importantly,
I hope you can have a honest examination
of whether you're participating in the
Lord's table or not. God's desire for
you to be a part of it is not in
question.
God's invitation for you to be there is
not in question. That's ongoing
your heart to want to be there. That's
not in question.
Entonces no está en cuestión si queremos
ser parte, estás aquí. No está en
cuestión que Dios te invita. Lo que está
en cuestión, lo que debemos de evaluar y
examinar es si en verdad estamos
viviendo y participando
en la mesa de Dios o simplemente de
nuestro grupo observando.

El primer grupo, ¿qué hace?
Jesus,
por favor, lárgate de aquí, por favor.
Vete. No te queremos.
crédito a ellos son honestos, no están
pretendiendo,
no quieren ser parte de la comunidad de
Jesús. Y cuando Jesús cambió su
comunidad, ¿qué dijeron? No nos gusta la

Jesús,
no quieren cambio,
quieren control.

you like.
En cuanto Jesús dice, "Vete, vay." Le

You can't pretend in the kingdom. No
puedes pretender en el reino de Dios.
No puedes querer cambio y controlar. No,
no van. You can't have one change in
transformation.
Los maestros de la ley, teacher la

Y Jesús dice, Jesus says,
blasphemy.

So he just answered their question their
issue was authority. Jesus say son of
men which is a reference to Daniel it's
this. These guys are teachers of the
law. They're experts. Jesus just spoke
their language. He spoken that code. He
told them I'm the one.
Look what I did.
He's not showing off. He's reaching out.
But what do they do?
Yeah, but that doesn't fit into what I
believe.
I've been at this way longer than you,
young man.
And so they don't move. They actually
again have a lot in common with Jesus.
They only believe God can forgive sin.
Guess what? So does Jesus.
And he just showed him he's God.
But they refuse to move. And that could
be us
where we just go by our experiences,
our set beliefs.
The hard thing about that is
seldom. Are you motivated and inspired?
obligation.
Esos maestros de la ley tienen mucho en
común con Jesús. Creen que solo Dios
tiene autoridad. También Jesús, ¿por

These are traiters to their own people.
They're making profit
from people.
They have the phisees are very accurate
in questioning
why Jesus is eating with them. Those
guys are suspect.

era gente que estaba abusando y

Where did Jesus just come from? ¿De

What the Pharisees, let me sit in the

There's no curiosity as to why would
Jesus, why would this rabbi call people
like him?
And why would this guy then all these
tax collectors come to them? That was a
sign.
You're not real, dude. You have no
convictions.
You're probably a traitor, too. You
probably just want to get rich with them
as well.
I knew it.
The challenge again, not that those
things are bad. They make kind of
they're kind of logical, but they don't
ask Jesus. Yeah. And that's us when we
rely on going to others
and we become codependent.
We can't serve and walk with God without
someone yelling, raising their voice,
testing us and reminding us.
Or we can't seem to come to God if we're
not feeling guilty about something.
Or the biggest thing that overflows of
our heart is just criticism.
Amén.
Y este grupo solo se encarga de criticar
y no hablan directamente con Jesús,
hablan con sus discípulos tratando de
atrapar. Amén.

And so do we. Why? Because the Pharisees
were devoted to Godern
the presence of God.
They did all the right things.
Jesus to be lord of their lives.

So this could be us.
love God doing the right thing, but
you're waiting.
You're waiting to be spiritual.
You're waiting to make big decisions.
You're waiting to take those steps
because you're afraid
to take them. So, you want God to just
[carraspeo] make it clear.
But maybe
you're not the living present God is not
an absent God, but a present living
active God.
Entonces, están esperando, pero

want to live?
I'm sure you don't want to be this
group,
but if you live this way, you're kind of
this group.
Here's my boundary, God.
And then what Jesus say, ¿qué dice
Jesús?
Pues si tienen un vestido y se rompe.
Y nunca he tenido un vestido, pero he
visto que mi abuela y mi mamá tenían
vestidos y se rompían y lo cocían, ¿no?
Y algunos de ustedes eh crecieron donde
ibas a la escuela, pero tú ibas a jugar
fútbol, no a clase,
y llegabas a la a la escuela.
Llegabas a la escuela de la casa con tus
nuevos pantalones bien rotos y después
de que te pegaban
[carraspeo] los cosía y ahí andabas con
tus parches.
[risas]
No se rompía una camisa y un parche
y algunos de ustedes tienen ese trauma y
n más se siguen comprando, pero es otra
historia.
Pero le tenías que medir y lavar bien y
qué camisa y qué parche ibas a poner
porque aunque se lavaba en mano podía
encoger y todo eso era todo un arte.
nos identificamos más con eso que seas
con los odres o los skins. [tos]
No puedes poner nuevo vino
en viejos odres. Así se llaman odres.
W skin one odre uno.
Quiero cambiar pero quiero control y
mejor vete.
Puede ir el nuevo vino ahí.
No, nunca, never. Impossible.
El nuevo vino no va a venir.
Los maestros de la ley, teacher la
canit.

No, never. It's not going to happen.
This is the problem with pride. When you
know it all, oh my goodness.
Write a book
before you forget.
Ese
es el problema con el orgullo.
El nuevo vino no puede entrar un odre
lleno de orgullo. Es imposible. Y cuando
llega, ¿qué pasa? Ya ves, si lo logré.

dado Dios ya está regado.

que Jesús sea el Señor de sus vidas.
Y el nuevo vino que ya está aquí news

that happened to you

Y para estos es imposible recibir ese
nuevo vino. ¿Por qué? Porque evitan a
Jesús. Van a la iglesia, hablan con
otras personas, pero evitan la realidad
del llamado de levantarte
y ser parte de la mesa de Jesús.
Y el cuarto grupo, ay, pobrecitos.
Déjalo

to long. Cuando esperas mucho tiempo,
un poco crítico. Oye, pues nosotros acá
con hambre me gruñe la tripa. [risas]
Y tú ahí comiendo con esta chusma.
When are we going to have another John
the Baptist? The answer is never.
I remember when my ministry that was
great
and it lived and it was beautiful and it
gave fruit and now it's gone. It's 2026
and we're in [resoplido] a heat wave and
things are changing.
But living present active God is going
to make something new. That's right.
What are you waiting for? [carraspeo]
En veces estamos esperando como
víctimas. Ay, pues fíjate, ay, es que no
entiendes.
Y sí, hay que hay que doler y hay que
hay que tener duelo y todo, pero no hay
que hacernos víctimas.
Así es.
Porque después de mucho tiempo te haces
crítico y crítica
y nosotros acá

It's not a church.
It's not a minister's table. It's not a
ministri's table. It's the Lord's table.
No puedes reemplazar que Jesús es el
Señor de nuestras vidas con cualquier
grupo, sistema, programa.
La mesa del Señor es
mesa de misericordia.
Nuestro último movimiento.
¿Qué es misericordia?
Pensamos que misericordia es, si me
equivoco me va a perdonar Dios.
Y va atrás de nuestra conciencia.
Pues si me sigo equivocando,
pues puede haber más gracia
y puede haber más misericordia.
Y es que así soy y es que así somos.
Pero hay misericordia. Eso no es
misericordia, eso es abuso de la gracia.
Amén. Vamos.
Pero la misericordia
es reciprocal.

Jesus entering

and saying
follow me.
Verse 9
follow me. He told him directly from God
from Jesus.
And the second part of mercy, otherwise
it's not mercy. The second part of
mercy, it's Matthew.
He's in a fourth group. He gets up
and what? And he follows
mercy.
If Jesus called him,
but Matthew didn't get up, would Matthew
have participated in mercy?
No, that was just a calling that was
rejected. So mercy is when you not just
are included and invited and welcomed.
Mercy is what?
You participate. You You get up and you
follow Jesus.
That's the merciful way. The welcome
table, the Lord table
is not this permissive table. Then you
can do whatever you want and believe
whatever you want and live whatever you
want and please yourself how many ways
you want to. That's this.
That's this.
That's this. And this. Don't fool
yourself.

that doesn't mean you're eating from the
lord's
La mesa del Señor y la misericordia son
dos movimientos. Dios nos llama y si los
dejamos todo y lo seguimos, estamos en
la mesa de misericordia. Misericordia es
vive como tú quieras y siempre vas a ser
perdonado. No importa. Eso es de nuevo.
Eso no es lo que estás la mesa de
misericordia.
Puedes estar en uno de estos grupos y
saber exactamente qué está pasando en la
mesa y creerlo, pero no ser parte de
porque no puedes ser parte de esta mesa
si no te levantas y dejas tu odre
mesa de recaudar impuestos
y dices y yo
y sigues a Jesús.
Así es.
Al mirar los cuatro grupos y la mesa del
Señor,
¿dónde te ves más reflejado hoy?
Tomando distancia,
evaluando,
cuestionando
o esperándote o esperando o como Mateo,
levantándote
para seguir a Jesús.
¿Qué ves que Dios está haciendo en tu
vida ahora y cómo te está llamando a
responder?
You know which one do you relate to?
This is our service. It's going long.
Everyone's looking. Just know I think
God may be calling you to make some
decisions.
Can you consider how you've been
responding?
Can you consider the living present God
calling you to decisions?
Don't be afraid to get up and go. We're
going to say prayer tomor.
Let's pray.
