Look Up, Listen Up, Shut Up

So the title of my message is look up, listen up and shut up.

So welcome. If you've bought your parents

here for the first time, it's nice to have you.

We're going to end by standing and putting our mouths over our

hands over our mouths and letting God.

Speak to us. This part of Ecclesiastes is

teaching us how to live a little bit.

The school that one of my children go to has just recently

had a bullying incident and one of the political parties found

out about it and then bought a whole lot of people and

petitioned and protested at the gate.

And I looked at them, I thought, but this is bullying.

It's a it's threatening everybody else who's.

Coming to the school. Because something happened in

the school, you think you can do it?

Outside the school and then I was.

Thinking quite a lot about just how schools work.

I don't know if you've ever been involved.

In schools. Most of us don't have an

educational degree. Or a sporting degree.

And yet we've. Got incredible perspective on

education and sport, don't we? It's the most amazing thing,

especially when we're paying fees.

We feel like the paying of fees give.

Us a right to. Speak into things we know

nothing about, and schools work very simply.

I mean very, very, very unbelievably.

Simply, you have a board with the chairman.

He's normally some very highly successful, either very rich or

very qualified guy. On that board.

There will be professors who have got an opinion on

everything, including who plays Lahore for the Springboks.

They also know about Donald Trump and the war between Israel

and Palestine. They are experts in the Russian,

Ukrainian involvement and they are highly educated on the

board. They're on the board because

they're successful. Then you have the leadership

team in the life of the school, the headmaster and his deputies

and a few people that go with it and they qualified.

Educationalists. Then you have teachers, That's

another rare breed who think they they know a lot.

And in the teachers, you have old teachers and new teachers.

The old teachers keep the traditions.

The new teachers have just come vastly and vastly, and they want

to change everything. So teachers, that's another

whole breed. Then you have the scholars

schools actually for scholars. Then you have the.

Scholars and. Some of them are really clever

and then some of them, like me, are really dwarf and you have RQ

tests and EQ tests and all sorts of tests and there's a whole

different ranks and then you've got the.

Parents, they're a very rare breed.

They are probably the most problematic members.

Of the Church Society. Especially if you go to Whipsaw

Pretoria Boys High and and and then you have the old boys and

the. Old girls.

And that's another whole rear bead and then you.

Have what we call. The Department of Education and

you think? Schools are simple.

And inside of that school you have the office, Macy's, Skinner

Club. They meet on most mornings in

the car. Park.

Or they go to Plato. But but they've got, they've got

a lot to say about a lot of things that happened in that

school. And they are world experts on

relational HR, bullying, discipline matters and the

direction of the school. They're unbelievably good at all

of that. Yes or no?

Yeah, you know that. And they stand on the side of

the field. I stood with two people in our

church who happened to go to the same.

School a couple. Of weeks ago, we're standing,

this was one of them and we're standing there and, and a guy, I

won't mention his name, but he comes from Sotcliffe School and

he knocked the ball on by two meters from my perspective, 2

meters, from his perspective, 2 meters.

And this guy said? Akhtar 2.

I thought, seriously, he's. He's honestly, he's being

truthful from his. Perspective, it's backwards.

I thought like I'm a Christian, Bruce that didn't go backwards.

Very there's no chance, Bruce. I served Jesus and now that same

group of people come into. The church and think.

Ah. The worship and the coffee.

The pasta. And the big screen, why they

spend so much? Money on the screen.

Let's read. Let's read and see how much we

actually know about God. All you experts in every field.

It's the most amazing thing you can play eight team.

Rugby at school, But decide how the rugby coach who's got a

training degree in physical science should pick his first

team rugby at the school. It's incredible.

Same in the church. So let's read this.

Steps when you go to the House of God.

Go near to listen rather than to office.

Offer the sacrifice of fools we do not know.

That they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth.

Of God I was. Reading this in my my

preparation, the short film James 3 portrays a family of

four getting ready for church on a Sunday morning.

Even though the viewer cannot hear what the family members are

saying, it is not hard to read their lips, or at least their.

Attitudes they wake. Up sleepy and grumpy, the dad

stumbles over the laundry and kicks it.

The older daughter argues with her mother about what she will.

Wear or not wear to church. I can't believe some of your

clothes are so expensive. There doesn't seem to be a lot

Wouldn't pay that much money for such a short skirt.

You know the story of a lady in this church whose squirt got

shorter. And shorter and shorter and

shorter in school until it was just.

Very, very, very short. She's here today.

Her dad is also here. And her dad said you must make

your skirt longer. She said no.

So her dad got dressed up in his Speedo.

He bought an ice cream. He drove to school.

He parked outside the front grate.

He leant on his bonnet, eating his ice cream in a Speedo.

He's sitting here today and the next day her skirt was longer,

said dad. How long are you going to do

that for? He said.

Until your skirt changes, darling.

The younger daughter spills her milk and cereal on her clothes.

Angry words are exchanged, especially when the dad slams on

the brakes while the mum is still trying to put her lipstick

on in the car as they get ready for church, no one in the family

smiles or exchanges even a friendly word until they walk

into church and it is time to put on a happy face.

The mum and their dad smile at the first people they meet.

Joyfully, they take their places in the sanctuary.

When they stand to sing, their eyes are closed in reverent

adoration. As the film ends, the sound

begins and we can hear what they are singing.

Praise God from whom? All blessings.

Flow friends are with the same people at home as the.

People who walk into the life of the church.

The way God has designed the temple.

Was you would come to the temple this.

Is guard your steps when you come to the temple.

Because the temple was very large.

And God wanted us to come from our lives, wherever our lives.

Are. He wanted us to come into the

temple and to look at the largeness.

To take the ours off ourselves and to start to look at God.

And the reality is the first thing.

That we do to worship. Is we have to.

Look up and probably every. Problem in this auditory.

Of today is because you're looking down or you're looking

around and God says you got to look up.

And the message of. Grace is the most unbelievable

message. Because God knows.

church, the Spirit of God spoke to him, said I lifteth.

helpeth cometh from it? Because his grandpa read it in

the King James. Bible, it doesn't matter.

What scripture? God reads it in friends 50

something years later when he was about to choose between life

and death. Because his grandfather had.

Taken him and. Stuck his eyes.

Into heaven his situation on earth changed friends if we're.

Going to change? This nation, if we're going to

change this world, don't come in here and just.

Or 8 hours a day you're caught by your eyes.

And So what the church has to do is we've got to.

Keep making. The production look greater to

keep attracting. People.

Friends. This thing is not.

Every morning early I don't. Do that but but I.

Given to us. Over 50 years of daily devotions

and she's going to record them and I'm going to hand them.

To my children and to my grandchildren.

Because the Bible says the secret.

God reaches down the scope into my heart and says, is he?

Is he caught me? Is he gripped me?

The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue to know the

word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning.

He wakens my ear to listen like 1.

Friends, you know what amazes me?

I get. Paid to study the Word of God

and to preach. I've been here for 12 years and

in those. 12 years, 90. 5% of the people who come here.

Never ever bring a notebook. Or anything to record.

I'm not doing this. For fun, I'm doing this to teach

you the ways of God, and I can. Tell you I've misguarded.

Many occasions. But in 12 years?

There must be at least 20. 5 or 30 times that.

I've actually heard the word of the Lord for you as a.

Church and most of you have not written it down.

I'm not being harsh, I'm just being truthful.

But because he wrote it down, he said.

I've not been rebellious. I've not been rebellious.

I've not drawn back. God spoke to him to build a high

school, his wife said. Over my dead body.

Unless God writes on the wall, we are not building a school.

And I just wrote down some of the.

Scriptures God gave to me. And I just handed her.

Across to her and she opened it and she started to weep.

I said, where are you from? She said I'm from Boxburg.

I said I'm from Pretoria. Isn't it?

Amazing that God can bring someone from Boxburg and

Pretoria to a market in Midrand so he can give us his word.

The word comes from the Bible, not from some hotshot prophet

walking around the place. Comes from the Bible pieces of

scripture. Pieces of Scripture Open your

ears, you know I am. I thought I was a really good

husband, you know? This most of you, because I've

told you I keep telling my wife my dad kept.

Saying I'm. Lucky.

I don't know how you got it, but I got it and.

After nine years I was in Australia, I was.

Preaching at a Christian conference and I felt like I

just felt this incredible sense of ordinariness over my life.

And I say this with you because the Bible says the secret.

Things belong to God, but the things He revealed to me belong

I want to tell you I've only heard God about 10 times in my

life. This is one of them and I want

to share it with you. And I've done hundreds of

marriages. And I only have 3 divorces.

I've less than 1% divorce of all the marriage.

I've done the marriage. The divorce rate in this

country. Is 50% the divorce rate from

people that have been married by me?

Is 1%? Am IA good marriage counsellor?

No I'm not. I'm an ordinary husband that

needed God to break in and that's the scripture he used.

So I thought well let me study it.

So I went and looked at Genesis 49 and it says Judah.

If you read your Bibles, if you had a notepad and took it down,

there'd be a little star next to Judah.

It says Judah. Your brothers will praise you.

And your hand will be on the neck of your enemies.

Judah means praise, say praise. Can we go to the next verse

please? Zebulun will live by the

seashore and become a haven for ships.

Say Harbour Issachar is a raw boned donkey lying down between

two saddlebags when he sees our good and pleasant in his

resting. Place and our pleasant in his

land. He'll bend his shoulder to the

burden and submit to forced labour.

So I'm an ordinary husband, I'm sitting in Australia, I'm doing

my devotions through the Book of Numbers and I feel.

God say to me, this is going to change your marriage.

And so I read. Genesis. 49 and God.

Just says 3 things to me. You must praise your wife.

I had. Clear picture in my mind on my

50th. Wedding anniversary of me

standing up in front of my children and my grandchildren

and honouring this woman and I felt God say Issachar is like a

raw boned donkey when it sees how good and pleasant is.

Its resting place. It will bend down and carry the

load. And I felt God say you must

serve her, you must carry the load, you must get up earlier

than her in the morning, and you must go to bed later.

Than her at night and you must carry the load in.

Prayer and you must serve her practically.

And you must serve her with your words, and you must serve her

with your time. And when she's got Mother's

group on the thing, you must serve her.

And yesterday morning. Which was my dad.

'S anniversary of my death when the Bible says we're not the.

Bible says we're the. Only we're thinking there's,

well, my wife must serve me because this is the day that my

dad. Died.

I got up early. I went down and made coffee and

I said bless you. I want to serve you for the rest

of my life. And Zebulun is a harbour and the

harbour. Protects when shipside.

And I felt God say this, if you will praise your wife and serve

your wife and protect your wife, you will live in the promised

land. I don't know how God spoken to

you about your marriage, but that's how God spoke to me about

my marriage. And I did not turn my ear away,

I opened my ear. My children can tell you this

woman lives under my words of life and every person that gets

counseled by me just get told three things.

Praise her, serve her, protect her.

Praise Him, serve Him. Protect him and if your marriage

is in trouble, it's. Because your language.

Is gone. Your selfishness has come in and

you're exposing them instead of protecting them.

And then I would go and park outside of churches in Durban.

I'd park outside of churches and I would start to praise God for

the church and for the ministry. I still do it.

I park outside of Coc. I praise you God for what is

inside you. I praise you for utpost of Lord

God. I want to serve this church and

pray. Lord God, I will protect the

reputation of these men. I do it at Choose Life.

I do. It at in.

Clearmoral letter. I do it at the Baptist Church

around the corner. I every single week I stop at

one church and I praise God for the church.

I serve them in prayer and I protect their reputation.

What's God said to you? Take it and share it with your

friends. Share it, share it, share it.

money. He had to open my ear to money.

Been in this church any length of time, you've never heard

that, You've never seen that. And I want to tell you, I've

been in the full time ministry for 35 years and I've never,

ever, ever, ever, ever been in a church that needs money.

That's why we don't have to ask you for it, but I'll tell you

why because God spoke to me. If you can put up Genesis 14

to me from this scripture because.

All I see. In the church is people standing

up and taking 25 minutes. To take.

Money out of people's pockets. So that the church.

Can somehow survive. Lord, can you speak to me?

And God said to me, this is how money works in the church.

This is how money works. You never have to ask people for

money. You just got to bring up the

bread, bring out the wine. You preach about Christ.

You set the people free. They will never give

reluctantly. They will never give under

compulsion. They will never give under

pressure. And every time that we've needed

finances, I just take a glass of grape juice and a piece of

bread, and I just stand like this.

And I say, Father, 35 years ago, you spoke to me from Genesis 14.

And that belongs to me and to my children, to the people that I

lead. And some of you grew up in

accountants homes, and your father's are accountants.

And you've got a whole perspective on theology and

finances. Shut your eyes, shut your mouth,

and open your ears. And some of you grew up in

abstract poverty. You've battled your whole life

to make ends meet. Shut your eyes, shut your mouth

and open your ears and let God speak to you about his

principles and his processes and his heart.

And I've travelled around the world and every church that

preaches this doesn't have to ask people for money.

He was priest of God most. High say God most.

High, I felt God say just give me the capital letters, capital

G, capital M, capital H, just give me the capital letters and

everything. Rory, your time, your

relationships, your words, and he blessed Abraham, saying

blessed be Abraham by God, most High creator of heaven and

earth. That word Creator means owner.

And blessed be God Most High Who?

Delivered your enemies into your hand.

his family were there. I said how's it going?

So no, we had a family business, we relocating to Stellenbosch.

I said this. Is an amazing church.

It's. One of our.

Friends and Say went there a few times and then he came back up

here, popped in here a few times.

I saw him and then about two. Months ago he sent me an SMS.

He said, hey Rory, I want to give money to the church.

Should I give it to three CR? Should I give it to the church

in Cape Town? What do you think?

I said. I'm in communion.

I'm I'm after supper. He took the bread and he broke

it and he said do this in memory of me for we are one loaf, many

parts took the cup said my blood is said for me.

You know what my heart. What did he say?

My heart want to say, please can you just give it to three CI?

But I would be rebellious. I would be fighting the Word.

And now our schools are battling to fill up.

Nico sent me a picture just two weeks ago.

Hey friend. Hey friend, we've just laid the

foundations for eight new classrooms.

Hey friend, for eight new classrooms.

Because God spoke to him many years ago.

I preached in Stellenbosch 2 weeks ago.

That man was sitting there. I said to my.

Friend, how's he doing? He said, or you won't believe

it. I said what?

He said he's just put a million Rand into our building fund,

1,000,000 Rand. I thought, can I just send that

SMS again or, or or or is this going to hold me?

Is this going to hold me? Put up Matthew 5 please.

Again, you've heard that it was said to the people long ago.

Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the

Lord. Guys, I've been in the church

long time. Honestly, I'm telling the truth.

Honestly. I'm telling the truth.

Well, either you're telling the truth or you're not telling the

truth. But honestly?

I'm telling the truth, I swear. To God on my.

Oath, I put it back. My oath to God.

But I tell you, do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is

God's throne, or by the earth, for it is His footstool, or by

Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one
