The Victory is in the V

and we'll talk a little bit about all sorts of things.

And then we're just, we'd really just get under your skin Worm

and Kenny and, and the, the people who really be offended

aren't there anywhere they instill by so, so they'll be

watching online. But I thought I'd get under the

Afrikaner skin. And then I thought I'd have a go

at the black eyes. I, I would just get there a

little bit to talk a bit about apartheid and then maybe your

Indian Oaks can come into it. I'll see your parents are gone.

So you've taken their chairs now.

I can't check. That's how your Indian oaks

work. OK, OK, now I can check that.

So, so I thought we would offend the Afrikaners.

Then we would have fed the black oaks and the Indian oaks, and

now you're all very uncomfortable.

And. I trust, like you, my family

have been away this week, that you've searched the scriptures

and look deep into your hearts. And I want to speak about the

victory being in the V and I want to talk about absorbing.

Insult. And and how we.

Absorb insults. And I don't think we did really

well. And so I'm 37 years into my

Christian journey, and I realized there's still a lot of

Rory left. But a day like this, we have to

look at ourselves, and we have to follow our Savior.

Into. Down into the depths of what he

did so that we can somehow tap into resurrection.

Life. And so I'm not really here to.

Offend you? I'm here.

To take you on the journey of Christ and to.

See if we can. Find some victory in the steps

of Jesus. So welcome.

If you're from out of town, it's great to have you.

If you're visiting your children, it's magnificent to

have you. If you're online, if you're

outside, we are live streaming. We're people watching all over

the world. It's great to have you.

So we're going to look to Matthew 27, which Maggie would

not have known I was preparing. On and.

We're going to look at verse 32. As they were going out, they met

a man from Cyrene named Simon and they forced him to carry

the. Cross.

They came to a place called Golgotha, which means the place

of the skull. There they offered Jesus wine to

drink mixed with gall, but after.

Tasting it, he. Refused to drink it.

When they crucified him, they divided up his clothes.

By casting lots. And sitting down, they kept

watch over Him. There above his head, they

placed the written charge against them.

This is Jesus, the King of the Jews. 2 robbers were crucified

with him, one on his right and one on his left.

And those who passed by hurled insults.

At him. Say that hurled insults.

What I've done now is just make a few jokes about different.

Cultures and different races. Just made a few jokes, but they

hurled. Insults.

Have you ever seen a guy hurling who's had too much?

To drink like. Projectile vomit I grew.

Up in the Rugby World. And so I've seen lots of

projectile vomiting. When I look at this word, I

think of this. Stuff that comes hurling out of

their mouths, just hurling out of their mouths.

Just this vomit. That comes hurling towards.

Christ, if you watch the riots that happened a couple of years

ago, you. Saw people hurling stuff.

Rocks and fire bombs, you just saw them hurling.

And you see Jesus on the cross and people just hurling stuff at

him. And yet, the moment.

That we get offended, we respond.

He could not everything inside of him because of the human

nature every time that we get attacked.

The first thing we'll do? Is try and defend, that's what.

Happens in our lives. The first time, if you get

caught naked, you'll try and cover.

Your nakedness. If you get caught on your guard.

You will lift up your fists. Whatever.

Whenever we get attacked, we go straight.

Into defense mode and Jesus couldn't because he was pinned.

And that's the message of Good Friday, is that he took.

That full? Brunt, so that you and I can

actually learn how to handle insult so that resurrection life

will start to kick into our bodies.

Amen. Those who passed by, those who

passed by. They weren't even.

Part of the they just passed by. It's like when you're doing your

thing and somebody just passes by in the traffic.

They're just passing by. I think I've never met you in

your life. You don't know who I am.

You don't know I've been married for 32 years.

You don't know the way I've brought up my children.

You don't know how I've loved Jesus.

And you cut me off and you zapped.

Me and you're just passing by, but you just think you've got

the right to just freak me out and you've got the.

Right on Good Friday to absorb it.

And saying they hold the insults.

Shaking their heads. Horrible.

Thing, huh? Did a teacher shake your head at

you? Horrible thing to have somebody

shake their head at you. I don't think to have a parent

shake their head at you. Somebody in authority shake

their head at. You.

I remember a girl who sinned. And I old say as young.

Girl 14 year old girl walked into my office.

She was absolutely petrified because she thought I was going

to shake my head at her. And saying you are going to

destroy this temple and build it in these three days.

Save yourself, come down from the cross if you are the Son of

God. In the same way, say, in the

same way, insulting and shaking their heads.

In the same way. In exactly the same way,

the chief priests. Now these are not.

Passersby. These are guys inside the church

in the same way, the chief priests, the teachers of the law

and the elders. Stephen and Rory and Clint.

The guys who are meant to be leading us in the ways of God in

the same way when we. Send in the.

Same way they mocked. Him insiders.

You were here last week, 2 1/2 thousand people.

We stopped the service for one girl called.

Amanda, she said. On the stage and you said what

is that all? About whenever we do anything

for God, we. Will be mocked.

We will be insulted, people will not understand.

And many of you grew up in churches with stained glass

windows. And now you come and say, oh.

Why did you paint it black? Why have you got?

Screens now we like, we like. TV Why have?

You got screens. You know what?

My heart does for. 37 years I've responded and as I look at

things, just absorb it. It's going to keep coming.

From passers by. It's going to keep coming from

insiders. It's going to come.

From outsiders. It's going to come from thieves,

it's going to come from religious people.

It's going to come. Friends this day.

We learn how to die. We learn how to stay pinned to

the cross instead of reacting out of our flesh, because if it

happened to Christ, it's going to happen to us.

How are we doing? He saved others, I said, but he

can't save himself. He's the king of Israel.

Let him come down now from the cross and we'll believe in him.

He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he

wants. For he said, I am the Son of God

in the same way. In the same way what?

Ah, you Afrikaans in the same way, in the same way, insulting

and shaking their heads in the same way, the robbers who were

crucified with them also heaped, say heaped.

So you've got hurled insults and now you've got.

Heaped insults and. Some of you want to leave us.

I'm not ever going to go back to that English guys church.

Suck it up. Absorb the insult.

Absorb the insult. So I want to.

And then I must absorb that too. Because for a young black girl

There's had to be some absorption that's taken place.

I'm tall. She's not so tall.

I'm male, she's female. She's educated with the Bcom

master's degree. I'm not educated.

She's a mother. I'm a father.

But we. Stand here somehow having.

Absorbed the insult of our community so we can serve.

God together. And if we're going to build

something that lasts in this. Nation if we're.

Going to build something that is going to change our country,

then you've got to absorb the thing that is different to you.

You've got to absorb it and not respond to it.

And God is busy with you. He has.

Been for a long time, you and your four daughters.

This beautiful man, God is busy with you, but he's called you to

preach, giving you a tongue to speak the life of God to people

you have been absorbing for a long time.

Keep absorbing. Don't respond, don't react,

don't make a first. God's working.

You know, friends, one of the great reasons why we absorb it

is because just a little bit later, it says the same thing in

Matthew. It says the same thing in, in

Mark. In, in, in Mark, but in Luke.

Oh, sorry, in Luke. No, in Luke, in Luke 27, don't

put it up. But in Luke, somewhere along the

line, these two robbers, I mean, Can you imagine 2 robbers don't

know what they've stolen? Maybe from Prasa, maybe from

SAA, and some of you have lost your job sitting here in this

auditorium today. You lost your jobs at SAA

because of what went on at SA. There's pilots sitting here,

qualified pilots that have lost their job.

You say, Rory, you don't understand.

Now I fully understand. They're robbers on either side

of us and they're both insulting Christ.

And then one of them has a change of heart, and he looks.

At Jesus. And he says, Jesus, Jesus,

please. Today, when you get to.

Heaven, will you Remember Me if. Jesus had been insulted.

He would have closed the door to salvation if Jesus had been

insulted, said no, you. Insulted me 20.

Minutes ago you insulted. Me.

But Jesus said, I tell you today you'll be with me in paradise.

One of the greatest. Reasons why absorbed insult

friends is because insult absorbed leads.

To salvation and sometimes it's 20 minutes and sometimes it's.

20 years. As the insiders and the

outsiders and the robbers insult you, there are people sitting

here today. One of them I met in the door.

His name is George, one of my dear friends.

George. And this is what they said to me

about George. You, George Shadow, will never.

Ever see the inside? Of your church.

And he had a lot to say about this church, and he had a lot to

say about the leaders. But one day, the shadow of

George fell across the entrance of this church.

Now, George. Doesn't miss a Sunday and.

Maybe your name is? George.

I want to tell you friends, the moment we start absorbing

insult, we will start attracting.

George and his mates to church, are you with me?

Let's keep. Reading and then we.

Reading in the scripture and I know it's quite deep, but this

is not. The celebration day.

This is. The day that we die, this is

the. Day you go home and say sorry,

this is a day you go home. And the thing that.

You've been holding. On to dearly you let it go

today. From the 6th hour until the 9th

hour, darkness came over all the land.

About the 9th hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice.

Eloy, Eloy la maisa bakhtani, which means my God, my God, why

have you? Forsaken me.

I got a letter this week from a little girl. 10 years old.

Just say, dear pastor, why does? God not answer my prayers, love.

Let's go to Psalm 22. Thousands of years before.

Thousands of years before. Read the first line 123 written

2000 years before 2000 years before my God, say my God, my

God, my God, God, you're my God, I'm Rory, I'm the son God you're

my God. Why have you forsaken me?

So Jesus prayed because on this day in Pretoria East in three CI

is a 10 year old girl, says pastor.

Why doesn't God answer? My praise?

Said. You're going to have to follow

Jesus, young girl. You're going to have to follow

Jesus and realize that. Jesus had to take.

Abandonment from the Father so that you never feel abandoned in

your life. And some of you are sitting here

thinking, why doesn't God answer my prayers?

Jesus knows what you feel like. My God, give me a minute.

My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?

There will be many people sitting in your auditorium,

Rory. You feel forsaken.

And on this day, I'll show them that this forsakenness takes us

to death, and this death results in resurrection life.

He's not abandoned you, he's just taking you on a journey.

My. God, my God, why?

Have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving

me, so far from the words of my groaning?

Oh God, I'm crying out to you. Why God?

Why God are you so far from my groaning?

Friends, you know that I live with a brain tumor.

I had a brain operation that sent that took me to Christ.

That's what got me to Christ. And while I was preaching the

gospel, it grew back in my head. I lived with headaches most of

my life. And for years.

I like God. Why cannot you hear my crying?

I'm groaning to you. My head is sore.

I'm trying to serve. You.

I need to kill you, Rory. I need you to die.

I need you. To go.

Down to the bottom. Because the Church like the

world. Says that the pinnacle is at the

top and I want to teach you that the pinnacle is at the bottom.

And when you get to the bottom you will realize how I want to

build the church. Not with fancy past the titles

and flying over all the world and becoming celebrities.

God is not looking for celebrities, He's looking for

people at the bottom. I don't believe God caused my

brain to you. But I know this.

He's used it to start to kill me.

I'm still alive. I'm still too much of me, but

sometimes I feel. God is so.

Far away from me when I'm trying my.

Best to get close. To me feels so far, but it's the

journey of Easter Friday, it's the journey of the cross, it's

the journey of absorption. This is my cry to you, 3 CI.

Die well, die well on this day. Cry if you need to, cry if you

need to. Yet you're enthroned as the Holy

One, you're the praise of Israel, and your Father's put

their trust. They cried to you and were saved

and you were trusted. You're not disappointed, but I'm

a worm and not a man scorned by men and despised by the people.

All who? See me, mock me.

They hurl. Their insults shaking their

head. Hill heap shake, Hill heap

shake, Hill heap shake. And he absorbed it.

For time's sake, let's go to verse 12.

Many bulls surround me. Strong Bulls.

Of Bashan encircle me roaring. Lions tearing their prey.

Open their mouths. Wide.

Against me. I'm poured out like water and

all my bones are out of. Joint my heart has.

Turned to wax, it is melted. Away within me my.

Strength is dried up like a potsherd.

And my tongue. Sticks to the roof of my mouth.

You lay me in the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me.

A band of evil. Men has.

Encircled me they have. Pierced my hands and my feet.

Verse 20. Deliver my life.

From the sword my. Precious.

Life from the power of the dogs. Rescue me from the mouths of the

lion. Save me from the.

Horns of the wild oxen. Can you put that picture please?

If you saw any one of those walking towards you, what would

you do? What would you do?

I'm not sure if you had we in your pants first, then run or

run and we in your pants, but what would you do?

Look. Look at them.

Look at them. Jesus.

Saying. Actually, you know what?

This is like. This is like.

Bulls surrounding me. This is like being pierced with

the horns of a bull in the very deepest plates of my heart.

I don't I, I, I think I'm quite secure.

But we stopped a meeting of two. And a half thousand people

because I feel God wants to speak to a girl.

Called Amanda and somebody comes and says what was all that?

About that is like. A horn going straight.

Through my heart. I'm a sensitive guy.

But in the past I would have. Tried to defend myself but on

this Easter front I'm saying Lord please help me to absorb

this. May I absorb the horn?

So I must learn the lesson of Good Friday.

All these marks on my hands are from a dog that bit me.

And you know, I don't like dogs. But I do.

Like the Psalms and I don't. Know how God's worked it out,

but every. One of my neighbors got one of

those. Dogs, and I've spoken about

those dogs and some of my neighbors are here.

I'm going to report you today. And I'm not.

You can ask my wife. We've got a neighbor's dog that

barks every night at 12:00. I'm an insomniac.

When I wake up, I don't go back to sleep.

But I can tell you this, I've said to the Lord over this last

18 months of my life, Lord, let me hear the barking of the dogs

and let me absorb it. Let me absorb it somehow.

So please, you'd release a resurrection life inside of me.

I can bear the sound of the dogs because of Psalm 22.

Can you bear the roaring lion? Can you bear the Raging Bull?

I will. Show you a picture of one of our

staff members that got one bite from a dog.

Let's keep it up. Louis, can you come here,

please? There's a beautiful man, there's

one of my friends, this man and the guy called Andrew with the

team of the guys, they look after this property, make it

look so beautiful. Doesn't get much recognition in

the church. There's a lot of background

work. But in December you're sitting

next to one of his friends dogs. That's one bite, just one bite.

There's one bite. We nearly lost it.

One bite. There's another man here, a

friend of mine. I met him on the beach down in

the tell. We got became friendly on the

beach and next minute he arrived in church.

I said what you doing here? He said I thought you were quite

interesting on the beach. He also got one bite of a dog in

his face, got pock marks in his head.

That happened in December. This happened in January,

December as well. One bite of a dog.

Now, what do you want to do when that happens to you, friend?

What do you want to do when the dogs surround you and the lions

surround you and the bulls surround you and they're

absolutely ripping you apart? This is what I say to you.

Absorb it. Absorb it like Jesus did on the

cross and God will heal and God will redeem and God will make

right and God will justify and God will give you a future and I

hope he will protect you in Jesus name.

Who being in very. Nature God did not.

Consider equality with God. Something to be grasped.

Friends, I know I've done this before, but for those who are

visiting, take your hands like this and.

Close it like that. And take the hand that has been

locked and try and open it. Can't open it?

Force it open. It's absolutely impossible.

Change your hands around and see if you can open it.

And it's physically impossible. And what the Bible says, your

attitude should be the same as that of Christ, who being in

very nature God, who being in very nature Afrikaans, who being

in very nature women who being in very nature black who being

in very nature black. When you're under pressure,

don't close your. Hands.

That's not what. Jesus did keep him open.

Don't grasp it, don't grasp your male hood, don't grasp your

leadership position already because your very nature, my

nature, I'm an 8 type personality, I'm extroverted,

I'm strong, my very nature has to grab it and God says you want

to save these people properly. And have to keep your hands

open. Your attitude must be the same.

And people call you all sorts. Of things.

And sometimes we've got to go against, not, not.

Living unnatural life, we start to live supernatural.

That's how. We do it no friends with.

We don't do it like that anymore.

Our. Attitude is the same.

As Jesus, we don't act in our nature.

We start acting supernaturally. Then God starts taking a short

black lady with a Bcom master's degree and a tall, white, loud

guy who doesn't have a degree, and he starts to build the

church together. And then he takes an Indian man

called Dennis and Annie, and he says you must just sit behind

the pastor every Sunday. Dennis came to me when I came to

Pretoria. He said, Rory, I'll sit behind

you and I look after you, Dennis and Annie.

I know Dennis is in Durban. I know what Dennis would have

done. He would have phoned his son and

said, hey boy, you better get to church early and sit behind Rory

just so that he feels OK and God gave him this beautiful lady to

Lisa got married on this property.

Did your dad phone you? He didn't.

And all of a. Sudden they they.

Instead of gripping positions, we start to open our hand.

Where's my Bible? But he made himself.

Nothing taking the very nature of a servant.

And be made in human. Likeness say the nature of a

servant. Friends, you've heard me say

that you. Can go to a.

Restaurant you can see a lady in a in in a waitress outfit.

All she wants is a tip, and you can see a lady that serves you.

When you come here, you should be come here to be served.

We should serve you, the elders should serve you.

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and

became obedient to death, even death on a cross.

Therefore say therefore, whenever you see the word,

therefore something has gone before.

Therefore God exalted him and gave him the name.

Please put that little diagram up. the V, The right hand side

is how the whole of Pretoria works.

It's a whole of the world works. It's how the whole of society

works. You're going to spend the rest

of your life climbing to get to the top, and when you get to the

top, everybody's going to worship you.

It happens in business and it happens in the church.

But the reason that Good Friday exists and the reason that

people held their insults at us, outsiders, insiders, close

people, family members, is to help us get down to the bottom.

And when we get down to the bottom and we become obedient to

death. Therefore, God exalted him and

gave him the name that is above every other name.

The resurrection life of God starts to kick into us.

And I want to tell you here, friends, there's lots of flesh

that needs to die on Easter Friday.

There's lots of tension, there's lots of arguments, there's lots

of personality. There's lots of English them,

there's lots of black them, there's lots of Afrikaner them

that has to die today so that you can tap into resurrection

life. Amen.

Jesus knew that if the cross was going to happen on Good Friday,

He had to keep his hands open so that the nails could go in his

hands. I want to say to you, Sir,

whether you're a medical specialist or an advocate or a

father or a friend or a brother or a cousin who an aunt and you

have got unfinished relationships, open your hand

and let the King of Kings strike a nail through.

Them and you will understand that you're blessed.

Blessed are you. When people insult you,

persecute. You and falsely say.

All kinds of evil against you because of me.

Rejoice and be glad. Wow, God, I just want to.

Block some people. That's the swear word.

I'm sorry. Rejoice.

And be glad, because great is your reward.

In heaven for in the. Same way they've persecuted the

prophets who were before you. You're the salt of the earth.

Etcetera, etcetera. Great is your reward.

In heaven, say that, and what insult does?

It brings us to a very finite point in which we have to spend

years defending our position instead of letting it go and

trusting God for the future. Amen.

leaving you an example that you should follow.

I've been serving God since I was 20 years old. 57 this year.

The greatest desire in my heart. So I want.

To know Christ, I want to know Christ I've never.

Asked God for a big church. I've never asked God for

profile. The prayer that I pray.

I want to know you Jesus. I want to know Christ.

I want to know the forgiveness of Christ.

I want to know the cleanest of Christ.

I want to know the generosity of Christ.

I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and

the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in

His death. My headache comes and my

headache goes and it weeks and months.

I have no headaches and the days that I have.

Terrible. Headaches and I think Jesus, you

had bulls all. Around you, you had.

Lions all around you. You had dogs barking

continuously. At you.

You were stabbed in your side. You were beaten in your.

Back your head was smashed and that nobody.

Could recognize you've got Please will you take these

sufferings and just teach me about yourself becoming like him

in his death and so somehow to attain to the resurrection from

the dead. Not that I've already obtained

all this or have already been made perfect, but I press on to

take hold of that for it's Jesus Christ took hold of me.

You will never, ever, ever participate in the resurrection.

Power of Christ. Unless you share in the

sufferings of Christ on the cross.

Good Friday, my dear friends, is to kill you.

Is to die to. The flesh.
