  1. Morning. All right, open your Bibles.

  2. We are still in Romans chapter 8 on another page.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  3. We've made it past the halfway line.

  4. We're heading to the tail end. I want to dive straight in and

  5. read the portion from verse 24. The context, if we weren't here

  6. last week, we spoke about that day.

  7. Paul was talking about that day. He's saying there's comes a

  8. moment where you breathe your lost and then you as a born

  9. again believer, if you've surrendered your life to Christ,

  10. then you get the privilege of seeing him face to face.

  11. And verse 24 picking up on that comment, he says for in this

  12. hope we were saved, but the hope that is seen is no hope at all.

  13. Who hopes for what he already has?

  14. But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it

  15. patiently. In the same way, the Spirit

  16. helps us in our weakness. We don't know what we ought to

  17. pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans

  18. that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts

  19. knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes

  20. for the Saints in accordance with God's will.

  21. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those

  22. who love him who've been called according to his purpose.

  23. For those God fore knew, he also predestined to be conformed to

  24. the likeness of his Son, that he might be the first born among

  25. many brothers. And those he predestined he also

  26. called. Those he called he also

  27. justified. Those he justified He will also

  28. glorify and then love this land. What then shall we say in

  29. response to this? If God is for us, who can be

  30. against us? It's lovely on paper.

  31. Horrible in real life. I've never done this before, but

  32. I want to give a they call it a trigger warning.

  33. We're going to go to some dark places because the Bible says if

  34. God is for us, who can be against us for the world and

  35. your situation and the tears running down your cheeks might

  36. say otherwise. I want to read an account going

  37. to share some of my story. But I thought, yeah, we might

  38. not get there, but I thought reading an account we could get

  39. there. This is Tyler Stanton.

  40. He wrote in his book an incident that he had that I want to lean

  41. in on the back story to this. He's in the UK ministering and

  42. I'm actually going to read from the book.

  43. We'll have it up so you can follow.

  44. So large. It's a couple pages worth, but

  45. it says Kirsten. Now that's this is wife Kirsten

  46. is the strongest and most independent person I know.

  47. I could count on one hand the number of times she called me

  48. consecutively. So when my phone buzzed with her

  49. name for the second time, I feared something was wrong.

  50. Tyler, the doctor just called. Kirsten sounded frantic.

  51. There's something wrong with the baby's heart.

  52. She's talking. She was pregnant with the baby

  53. at the time. I flew halfway around the world

  54. first thing the following morning, and within 24 hours we

  55. were sitting together in the doctor's office as they

  56. performed an ultrasound for more than an hour, not saying a word.

  57. The silence was eerie, as if everyone else knew something,

  58. something that would devastate us, but no one wanted to be the

  59. one to have to say it out loud. Our youngest son was diagnosed

  60. with a heart condition seven months out from the delivery

  61. date. Not just any heart condition,

  62. but the most severe heart condition a developing infants

  63. can potentially survive. The tricky aspect of the

  64. diagnosis is that it has to do with the way the heart filters

  65. oxygen in the blood, meaning the infant develops healthily in the

  66. womb, but at the moment of birth, moment that's supposed to

  67. be joyful in a celebration. A clock starts ticking fast.

  68. Survival is a coin flip. And even those children who do

  69. survive, often seriously impaired, physically,

  70. cognitively, or both. The doctor explained all this to

  71. us, instructing us to prepare for the worst likely loss of

  72. life within the first few days after birth.

  73. I was in shock, not able to properly process the news.

  74. Kirsten was composed with silence throughout the

  75. appointment. I asked the questions, she just

  76. sat there taking it in. We walked back through the

  77. waiting room, scheduling the first of what sudden was

  78. suddenly many necessary follow up appointments.

  79. And when the elevator doors closed, at that very moment, the

  80. two of us alone for the first time, Kirsten erupted in a whale

  81. like I've never heard before or since she wept in agonizing

  82. screams I'll never forget. I want to preach today to those

  83. who know what it's like to whale.

  84. Kirsten erupted in a whale like I've never heard before since

  85. she wept in agonizing screams I'll never forget And didn't

  86. stop for hours. When we got home, I relieved the

  87. babysitter took our all the two boys to the playground in an

  88. attempt to shield them from seeing their mother in such

  89. grief. Kirsten never came out of our

  90. bedroom that night. After dinner, I brushed the boys

  91. little teeth, tucked them into bed, and then I had to face it.

  92. I had to be alone with nothing to busy myself with, no one to

  93. serve as a distraction from what I didn't know how to face.

  94. I had to ask my wife's permission to share some

  95. details, details we haven't shared publicly.

  96. While we're talking about. It's in the car.

  97. Suddenly realize, you know what, Actually, we don't have to go

  98. far to come across whaling in our ranks.

  99. Don't even have to go past the the front row.

  100. The elders having faced kidney failure, weeks in ICU, brain

  101. tumors, miscarriages, losing a child at birth.

  102. Our story, it was for those of you who've been around in three

  103. CR for a while, my, my youngest went into kidney failure in 48

  104. hours. It went from just a beautiful

  105. bouncing little girl to near death.

  106. And when it comes to whaling, what happened was she was in

  107. such a bad state that they had to try and stabilize her because

  108. they needed to take a biopsy. Because in that situation, some

  109. medicine can help, but that same medicine can actually harm if

  110. you don't quite know what's going on inside.

  111. So after a few days, we were able to stabilize her.

  112. The doctors weren't quite sure if the timing was right, but

  113. they couldn't wait any longer. And so she had the biopsy and we

  114. waited. And that horrible period where

  115. you're waiting for that death sentence, you've seen the

  116. evidence of what's going on inside, but you just don't know

  117. how bad this is. And so it just so happened that

  118. when the report came back, I was at home.

  119. I think I was prepping to preach that weekend.

  120. My wife was with my daughter at the hospital, and she phoned me.

  121. She said, hey, listen, apparently they've got through

  122. the report. The doctor's going to see us in

  123. a few minutes, if you can come. So I rushed through there and I

  124. arrived and I walked in and my wife has nowhere to be found.

  125. Because what had happened was instead of our doctor coming and

  126. giving her the news, a guy that if I had to find and meets in

  127. the dark alley that I'd end up burying his body.

  128. Because the surgeon came out and saw my wife standing there all

  129. alone, waiting for her husband to arrive, waiting for who knows

  130. what news from the doctor. And he saw her and he just told

  131. her everything without compassion, no bedside manner,

  132. no kindness, just dumped on her. A lady not knowing anything of

  133. the medical on goings on in in this situation, left her right

  134. there essentially with the news, sorry for you, your daughter's

  135. going to die. And he walked out.

  136. She's standing all on her own in reception wailing.

  137. And it seemed to be a little bit of a problem to the nursing

  138. staff because they ushered her into a glorified broom closet

  139. and closed the door and just let her meltdown on her own.

  140. And I come about 10 minutes later and I walk into this.

  141. What do you do in that moment? Where do you go in that moment

  142. when you have nothing? Verse 26 says the Spirit helps

  143. us in our weakness. We do not know, we do not know,

  144. we do not know, we do not know. But the Spirit himself

  145. intercedes for us that groans that words cannot express.

  146. And in the English it says helps, which is a very

  147. two-dimensional flat helps. So it's a short little word.

  148. The Greek is a very long word, senante lambano Mai, and it

  149. means to take hold of and to surround with strength.

  150. I don't know if you've shaken Bucky's hand as he comes into

  151. church on a Sunday. You know, you shake his hand,

  152. but he shakes your elbows like those hands are so big.

  153. That's the kind of the picture. And surround you with my

  154. strength. Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit

  155. in three very interesting ways, three different ways.

  156. He's telling the disciples there's wailing to come, but I'm

  157. going to give you 1 who's a counselor and advocate and a

  158. comforter. And if you're wailing this

  159. morning, we might literally be stopping for the 1 today.

  160. If you're wailing this morning, if you're online and you're

  161. wailing this morning, maybe you couldn't come here because

  162. you're in such a dark space. You couldn't be around Happy

  163. clappy, and you're home watching.

  164. I want to tell you about the counselor, the advocates, and

  165. the comforter. Verse 26.

  166. The Spirit helps us in our weakness.

  167. This is Him as a counsellor. We do not know what we ought to

  168. pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans

  169. that words cannot express. Now look at this verse 27.

  170. And he who searches our hearts, not the Holy Spirit, this is the

  171. Father, knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit

  172. intercedes for the Saints and according in accordance with

  173. God's will. So you got, you got the Father,

  174. you got the Spirit, and you got your heart.

  175. It's this trifector as He comes around you, surrounds you with

  176. the strength I need to come up with for Ed just a little bit.

  177. So I want to show you, I don't know if you know the Action Man.

  178. This is dating me, You know, while the girls were playing

  179. with the Barbie dolls. You guys can pop that up.

  180. I know, right? Yeah.

  181. Modelled after Eugene, actually. Yeah.

  182. This is what I grew up with. But there's something that

  183. Action Man had a GQ photo shoot, so you can show the next

  184. picture. Yeah, those deep, pensive eyes.

  185. But what I want you to see is I want you to see the scar on his

  186. face. You know, that that for me was

  187. what what the Action Man represented.

  188. You know, he's been to battle. He's come back.

  189. He's got, you know, chicks dig. It's kind of a thing.

  190. But what I discovered recently, because now they're bringing

  191. this, apparently they're bringing Action Man back onto

  192. the shelves, that that scar is trademarked.

  193. It's what's unique about this doll that sold millions and

  194. millions and millions around the world was that scar.

  195. And I was reminded of this this week, prepping for today.

  196. Because in the same way, your scar, whether it be internal or

  197. external, whether it be spiritual or emotional or

  198. physical, your scar is the trademark of a Christian life.

  199. It's like a sign of authenticity.

  200. And not only is it the trademark and a sign of authenticity of

  201. the Christian life, it's also the very place where God's power

  202. longs to rest. I want to show you something

  203. that I found that absolutely blew me away, that God leans

  204. into your weakness and your wounds.

  205. Look at 2 Corinthians 12 verse 9.

    2 Corinthians 12:9

  206. You've heard this one before. My grace is sufficient for you.

  207. You've heard that one, right? I didn't really like that verse.

  208. You know, it's almost like he's saying to Paul, hey, suck it up

  209. buttercup. You know, you're on your own.

  210. You've got my grace. What you whingeing about?

  211. Put your big boy pants on. That's not what he's saying at

  212. all, because take a look at the second-half of the verse.

  213. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in

  214. your weakness. That Greek word they've

  215. perfected means my power reaches its goal in your weakness.

  216. If you want to know the fullness of the Holy Spirit, all that He

  217. is, all that He wants to be, all that He presents himself to you

  218. and I, you know where you'll find that in your weakness, in

  219. the middle of your whaling. That's where you find the Holy

  220. Spirit in his fullness. I had, we were leading youth

  221. many years ago into a conference.

  222. I had the most remarkable story. Youth leader was sharing a

  223. tower. One of the guys in youth got

  224. himself into a really bad space, did a couple things deeply,

  225. deeply ashamed and struggling with guilt.

  226. And he was saying how he got to the point where he didn't know

  227. what to do. And he figured, actually, before

  228. my parents find out what I've done before that guilt and shame

  229. comes to light. He says, I'm going to end it

  230. now. Snuck into his parents bedroom

  231. in the middle of the night, stole his dad's gun and he's

  232. sitting at his his desk in his bedroom with the gun on the

  233. table trying to build up some resolve, genuinely thinking that

  234. when his parents come and find him, they're going to go, oh,

  235. wonderful. At least we've gotten rid of

  236. that issue. There's one in the morning and

  237. the phone rings and it's his youth leader and it's all to the

  238. state. He says, I don't know why

  239. answered actually picked it up thinking there's something wrong

  240. with her Youth leaders like hey, are you OK?

  241. He's like, no, no, I got are you OK?

  242. The youth leader shares the story and says he was busy

  243. playing Xbox, as all youth leaders do at 1:00 AM

  244. ministering. And this one of the the kids,

  245. this teenage boy, his name and face came to mind.

  246. And as it did, he just found himself weeping.

  247. So his mates looking at him like, what's going on?

  248. Sorry, excuse himself, went out into the garden.

  249. He's like, Lord, I don't know what's going on.

  250. And he really felt just to phone this guy.

  251. So he did. He picked up the phone and of

  252. course, he asked the teenage boy.

  253. He was sitting there with a gun on this table.

  254. Are you all right? And the answer is, yeah, I'm

  255. fine. So you're not fine.

  256. But so go and grab your Bible. This is the council of the Holy

  257. Spirit. So go grab your Bible.

  258. Open up to Psalm 5 and read Psalm 5 to me or read some of

  259. the lines that won't be on the screen.

  260. Starts by saying, oh Lord, hear me as I pray, pay attention to

  261. my groaning, listen to my cry for help.

  262. And he stops in the right there. He says, God wants to listen to

  263. your cry for help. He's not put off by your

  264. groaning. And he reads on.

  265. He says, because of your unfailing love, I can enter your

  266. presence. And he stops in there and he

  267. says, do you realize you can come to God not because you got

  268. a squeaky clean track record or because you're part of youth or

  269. because you've gone to church or because you're not behind on

  270. your Bible reading plan? No, no, no.

  271. You can go to God because of his unfailing love.

  272. And he's saying to this teenage boy, do you realize that there's

  273. nothing that can prevent you from getting there because his

  274. love is unfailing, sitting there alone. 1:00 AM.

  275. And then my favorite part of the Psalm 5, it says rescue me.

  276. All my enemies will conquer me. Make your way plain for me to

  277. follow on the new living translation.

  278. It says give me direction to get through enemy lines.

  279. I prayed that so many times prayed in the simmer.

  280. Father, give us direction to get through enemy lines.

  281. See the Spirit helps us in our weakness, helps Sanante lo bano

  282. my surrounds you with his strength and he will show you

  283. just the next step to take because he's our counselor.

  284. We don't know, but he knows not only counselor, but also an

  285. advocate. When you hear advocates, you

  286. often think of the legal side. And that is true that there's

  287. also a verb element to the Holy Spirit being an advocate.

  288. It means to champion, to uphold, to support or to promote.

  289. So let's look at those verses again just to see the fullness

  290. of his fight for you. Verse 26.

  291. The Spirit helps us in our weakness.

  292. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself

  293. intercedes for us with groans and words cannot express that

  294. intercedes means means to intervene.

  295. You know, like you're having that bar fox with a really big

  296. oak and your girlfriend steps in between.

  297. OK, wrong crowd. But hypothetically speaking, if

  298. you were, if you weren't from the bluff, you know, so like,

  299. yeah, you had one too many. You're really stupid.

  300. You don't realize you're about to die and you're mouthing off

  301. of this big oak and the girlfriend intervenes.

  302. That's that's the word. Yeah.

  303. Shut up, stupid. Get out.

  304. Go to the car. But the Spirit himself

  305. intercedes. He intervenes with groans that

  306. words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts

  307. knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes

  308. for the Saints in accordance with God's will.

  309. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those

  310. who love him have been called according to his purposes.

  311. He advocates, He intervenes, He works, He fights.

  312. He just says Let me at them, let me at the enemy.

  313. He had kids, he intervenes, he works and he fights.

  314. I don't know if you remember the story Raw shared a few years ago

  315. about a mate of his pastor friend was travelling and as one

  316. does, you often stay with with a lead couple when you're

  317. ministering into the church. And and he had done this, this

  318. guy who'll go unnamed and he's apparently he ate something

  319. funny, didn't agree with him, gave him like the proper runs a

  320. true story. And now you're in a strange

  321. home. They've gone to bed.

  322. And all the sudden. Oh, and he didn't, he didn't

  323. make it in time. Yeah.

  324. And then it just went from bad to worse because now you're in a

  325. strange home and the strange smells.

  326. And so he hatched the plan. Who knows why, what he was

  327. thinking, but he went into the backyard and buried his

  328. underwear. Yeah, he's like, because he

  329. couldn't leave it in the room. He couldn't, you know, stick it

  330. in your bag. So he went and he buried it in

  331. the backyard. Was able to go to bed, sleep

  332. peacefully until breakfast. Sitting at the breakfast table,

  333. having a lovely breakfast with this couple and walks Fluffy.

  334. Fluffy had smelled some wonderful smells and not only

  335. decided to go looking but decided to bring the treasure he

  336. has found right to the breakfast table and drop it at his masters

  337. feet. And before this pastor could

  338. feign ignorance, he looked down and he saw, oh those are the

  339. jocks that his wife so lovingly stitched his name in bold.

  340. See, the enemy loves to go digging in your past.

  341. Drag it out and splash it down in front of everyone so everyone

  342. can see. That's why your daughter's

  343. struggling with kidney failure. That's why your 6 year old

  344. drowned while you were having life group.

  345. True story. Someone here this morning.

  346. That's why you're going through this medical issue.

  347. You can't ask God to heal your cancer.

  348. You did this and that and that, but the Advocate intervenes

  349. between you and the bully, and the Spirit himself intercedes.

  350. Look at that first verse, 26. The spirit himself intercedes

  351. for us with groans that words cannot express.

  352. I don't know what you're going through, but he doesn't stand

  353. there judging and criticizing you.

  354. He groans. He aches, overwhelmed with

  355. compassion for what you are going through.

  356. He's our counselor, he's our advocate, and he's our comforter

  357. who always says when it talks about comfort, the Fort has

  358. come. And that's the picture here.

  359. The Fort has come. I read recently, you know, if

  360. you look at an old Atlas, if you go down to the various

  361. southernmost points of Africa, the older the Atlas, the more

  362. likely you'll find around the Cape that it says the Cape of

  363. Storms. Yeah.

  364. I didn't realize that That's what it was called.

  365. For centuries, it was known as the Cape of Storms.

  366. It was only changed when people made land, when they landed on

  367. solid ground for the Cape Storms behind them.

  368. They renamed it the Cape of Good Hope.

  369. That's what happens when the Fort has come.

  370. And that's what this verse is trying to say in verse 28.

  371. We know that in all things God works for the good of those who

  372. love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.

  373. We know that in all things God works for the good.

  374. God is good all the time. Life rubbish.

  375. You don't think so? I don't think so.

  376. God is good all the time. God is good when my daughter is

  377. dying. God is good when he had the

  378. ability to answer that prayer, but instead you had to endure a

  379. miscarriage. God is good all the time.

  380. At our absolute lowest. I hated that.

  381. I couldn't handle that. I know what you're trying to

  382. say. You're trying to say God is good

  383. all the time. The problem is he's not

  384. operating here. He's operating here.

  385. That doesn't look good to me and on your mind you're thinking of

  386. this, but actually right now you're telling me God is good

  387. even here. And I had to confront some of my

  388. friends and pull them aside and said listen, can I just ask you

  389. to please stop all your nonsense or your rubbish mumbo jumbo?

  390. You're the head and not the tail.

  391. Don't speak the name of the disease.

  392. You know God is going to heal her completely.

  393. I said can you please stop because God hasn't spoken to me

  394. yet. I don't know if I'm going to

  395. lose my daughter or not. And if I do, because God is God,

  396. if I lose my daughter, not only am I going to have to somehow

  397. find the strength to stand, I'm going to have to do that while

  398. caring for my family and for my children.

  399. And now you're going to add on to that the fact that I'm

  400. seriously worried that you're going to have a spiritual

  401. meltdown and go into crisis because you said God is good and

  402. now all of a sudden God has been that good.

  403. What do we do with it? And I don't know if you're

  404. there, but if you are, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

  405. I was cornered by a lady at a coffee shop recently and she

  406. asked me this. Is it OK for a Christian to

  407. despise God? And I told her the story and I

  408. took her through psalms. More than 60% of the psalms are

  409. psalms of lament. So God, you don't look good to

  410. me. Where are you because if you're

  411. going in there, if you're there, if you're not even here because

  412. you couldn't come and sit around people and saying God is God

  413. bless you and you're at home. This is what I found and it's

  414. right there in front of you. Put up verse 28, Romans 828.

  415. This is what God showed me. And we know that in all things

  416. God. But we know in all things God.

  417. When you hit rock bottom, you know who you find God.

  418. When it's falling apart and you've lost control and you

  419. don't understand God, God is enough.

  420. And it's not unique to me. The, the, the Jews found this,

  421. you know, the Passover, that moment when they sacrificed the

  422. lamb and put the blood of the lamb on the, on the doorposts as

  423. slaves in Egypt. And the Angel of death came and

  424. those who didn't put the blood on the doorposts lost their

  425. first born and then God released them from Egypt and then into

  426. the wilderness and eventually onto the, the promised land.

  427. They are called to celebrate the Passover and while they're doing

  428. this, in remembrance of being set free, they sing a song

  429. called Dayanu. And dayanu the the Hebrew word

  430. means it would have been enough. My language, God is enough.

  431. Good God would have been enough. I'm going to read some of the

  432. standards, like 15 stanzas. I've just copied and pasted a

  433. few of them for you. This is the song that they sing.

  434. If he had brought us out of Egypt and didn't judge our

  435. enemies, Dayanu, it would have been enough.

  436. Like wait, what if he brought us out of Egypt but didn't punish

  437. those who kept us in slavery for 400 years?

  438. That would have been enough. You know the understanding of

  439. the mights and the goodness and kindness of God.

  440. You have to have a hold off to say that.

  441. It goes on to say if he had judged our enemies, if he had

  442. judged them but hadn't split the sea for us, it would have been

  443. enough. Now that blows my mind because

  444. if you know the story that came out of Egypt and they were

  445. followed by the Egyptian army and they were cornered the back

  446. to the Red Sea, an army in front of them, the greatest army in

  447. the world at that stage and his moms, dads and kids.

  448. And they think that would have been enough.

  449. I mean, I abandoned my faith if I don't get my healing or my

  450. marriage doesn't get restored or I don't get that promotion.

  451. But they are saying like just the fact that you would

  452. condescend to our slavery and set us free would have been

  453. enough. Because somehow they know in all

  454. things God, if he had split the sea but not taken us through,

  455. die Enu. If he had taken us through the

  456. sea but not drowned our oppressors in it, Die Enu.

  457. We know that in all things God, if he had delivered us from our

  458. oppressors but not supplied our needs in the desert for 40

  459. years, die Enu. And it's this shout, it's this

  460. declaration. It's a reason why Job would say,

  461. though you slay me yet will I love you.

  462. How do you get there other than knowing in all things God,

  463. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego about to be cast into the fire.

  464. And the king says, just deny God and I'll set you free.

  465. If you don't, I'll throw you into the fire.

  466. And their words to him essentially was Diana.

  467. He's powerful enough to rescue us, but if he doesn't die in it

  468. would have been enough just to know in all things God.

  469. Now, you might be seriously, seriously offended by that.

  470. All I can say, if you are, you're not at a place of wailing

  471. yet. Those who are wailing, just know

  472. in that place God is enough. You will find him to be enough.

  473. I have found him to be enough. Tyler and Kirsten have found him

  474. to be enough. And He'll let no idol come

  475. between you and him, whether it be your demand for that

  476. promotion or your demand for the perfect bride or your demand for

  477. healing until he is enough. I want to close with just a

  478. moment of ministry. But to give you the backdrop,

  479. back in 2010, I don't know if you've seen the movie Deepwater

  480. Horizon. It's based on a true story where

  481. an oil rig platform exploded and there was something like a

  482. billion litres of oil all over the place.

  483. We've got a photo of it from almost 30,000 feet up The that's

  484. the oil spill. There's tiny little white dots

  485. or ships trying to rescue that mess.

  486. But I was reminded of this because there's one picture that

  487. I want to show you that I think often represents us in this

  488. moment when we're wailing. You can pop it up.

  489. It's a one guy trying desperately to clean up the

  490. mess. And if you're here this morning,

  491. and that represents your heart right now, you see behind them

  492. there's another wave of oil and another wave of oil.

  493. And you know, it's like it's not going to stop.

  494. There's no way out. You have lost control and you

  495. are wailing. I want to pray for that heart

  496. this morning. I'm not going to ask you to

  497. stand. I'm not going to ask you to

  498. raise a hand. But what I am going to do is I'm

  499. going to ask you, would you open your heart to the God who is

  500. enough, the God who comes, who wades into that mess, the God

  501. who wants to rescue and redeem. But first of all, sometimes he

  502. calms the storm. First of all, what he wants to

  503. do is calm his child, wrap you in his arms.

  504. So that's, that's you. I just want to pray the Psalm or

  505. this portion of Scripture from Isaiah 61 that Rob read earlier

  506. of us. The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord

  507. is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good

  508. news to the poor. Lord, you said that your Holy

  509. Spirit anointed Jesus because He would come to proclaim good news

  510. to the poor. We are poor and destitute.

  511. Father, I pray for those who are wailing.

  512. I pray, Lord God, that you would come and rescue.

  513. He sent me to bind up the broken hearted.

  514. Lord Jesus, would you do just that?

  515. Would you bind up the broken hearted?

  516. I think those sitting at home, their health not even allowing

  517. them to get out of bed this morning, or those who come here

  518. absolutely shattered from the news they've heard this week.

  519. Lord, your word says that you would bind up the broken

  520. hearted. You proclaim freedom for the

  521. captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.

  522. We will remember your name in the darkness.

  523. You're faithful. You're our counselor, our

  524. comfort. We pray and we proclaim the year

  525. of the Lord's favor over your people that you would comfort

  526. all who mourn. You provide for those who grieve

  527. and bestow in them a crown of beauty instead of ashes.

  528. Father, I know what it's like to face ashes.

  529. And for those here this morning, I pray, Lord God, that you do as

  530. you promised, that you'd bestow a crown of beauty instead of

  531. ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning.

  532. But we don't know how. We don't know how it's possible

  533. that you could do this. But you say you anointed Jesus

  534. to do just that. So Jesus, we call on you on

  535. behalf of those who are wailing. It might just be 1 here this

  536. morning. We know that you delight to stop

  537. for the one. We know that your power is made

  538. perfect in our weakness and in our wounds, and I ask for that.

  539. I ask Heavenly Father, that you'd show the fullness of your

  540. fatherhood to your children. Would you come?

  541. Would you rescue? Would you redeem?

  542. Instead of the spirit of despair, give us the garment of

  543. praise. We ask this in your mighty name

  544. because we have no one else who can Jesus name?

  545. Amen.
