Welcome to the Word of the Lord, the weekly television
-
broadcast of Living Word Christian Church, proclaiming
-
the good news of the gospel of the Lord Jesus
-
Christ. Pastor Mark Clements, in -depth, relevant
-
biblical teachings will help you in life and
-
living in today's world. Now, let's join Pastor
-
Clements in the service already in progress.
-
We're just a little short on time. We won't do
-
this. We won't do this. But what I'd like to
-
do is have some of our young people come up and
-
take their Bibles and just take a verse and just
-
go through all of these. Now, we did last week,
-
and I had them leave them on the whiteboard,
-
put the whiteboard back up there. And if you
-
can swing over to that whiteboard with one of
-
our cameras, there it is. And I want to do that
-
for your sake who are watching and who are streaming
-
with us and who are viewing. I'm going to leave
-
it up there on the screen for just a few more
-
seconds so that you can take your phone and you
-
can take a screenshot of what's on the screen
-
right now. And what we're streaming, those of
-
you viewing this later, obviously you can pause
-
yours and your device. And then you've got that
-
list of all those scriptures we gave you. It's
-
not inclusive of all scriptures in the Bible
-
that communicate to us the Bible truth, the eternal
-
truth, that there's only one way to heaven. There's
-
only one way to God. There's only one way to
-
eternal life. There's only one way to salvation.
-
And his name is Jesus. It's not a series of do's
-
and don'ts. It's not a code of conduct. It's
-
a person. It is God Himself designated as the
-
Son who came to earth. Who came to earth. Now,
-
think about the wisdom of God and the foolishness
-
of all of God's enemies. In the foolishness of
-
all of God's enemies, they believed that this
-
was some kind of a fight, that it was some kind
-
of a wrestling match, that it was some kind of
-
competition between Jesus and the devil, and
-
the devil won. It was some kind of a competitive
-
match, and they rejoiced in that they had taken
-
the Son of God, and that they had killed the
-
Son of God, and that they had stymied the entire
-
plan of God. and that they had won. They didn't
-
realize everything that happened was the plan
-
of God. It's always the plan of God. The plan
-
of God was for God to leave heaven, strip himself
-
and lay everything aside and descend down into
-
earth and be born as one of the weak. Feeble,
-
frail human beings, susceptible to cold and heat,
-
susceptible to hunger and thirst, susceptible
-
to sickness and infirmity and disease, susceptible
-
to pain and agony, susceptible to loneliness
-
and solitude, susceptible to temptation and therefore
-
sin, and become a human, a little lower than
-
the angels, needing sleep and rest. And God would
-
become a human. Less than the angels. And born
-
into sin. Although He was not born into sin,
-
and nor did He ever sin, but He was tempted every
-
way like we are. And it was always the plan of
-
God that He would be turned over to the hands
-
of sinners, that He would be rejected of men,
-
that He would be crucified, that He would be
-
smitten, that all would leave Him and forsake
-
Him, that He would be alone, that He would die.
-
Always was it God's plan that He would descend
-
and for three days and nights there would be
-
darkness and hopelessness, but on the third day
-
He would rise again. It's always been the plan
-
of God that 50 days, after the Passover, 50 days
-
after the crucifixion, there would be a celebration
-
which all the way back through the Old Testament,
-
through Deuteronomy, through Numbers, through
-
Leviticus, all the way back to Exodus. The day
-
of Pentecost, 50 days after the Passover had
-
always been celebrated as the Feast of Weeks.
-
celebrating the harvest of God and the fulfillment
-
of the 49 days, seven days of seven, 50 days
-
after Passover, they always celebrated and came
-
together to offer their thanks with a sacrifice.
-
On that very day, the Lord Jesus, who had received
-
the Holy Spirit when he sat down at the right
-
hand of God, poured out and he came surging into
-
planet Earth. It's not an afterthought. Hey,
-
they're all joined together down there and they're
-
in that upper room. We should do something for
-
them. It's always been the plan of God. Always
-
has it been the plan of God that he would then,
-
he would then, until the fullness of time, until
-
time had been fulfilled, go to heaven and sit
-
at the right hand of God. But then on that day,
-
the last trumpet would blast and he would come
-
and return. And we'd meet him in the air. It's
-
always been the plan of God that there be a thousand
-
-year millennial reign right here on planet Earth.
-
And that He and He alone will be exalted as head
-
over all. It's always been the plan of God that
-
there be a new heavens and a new earth in the
-
next chapter, in the next phase of what it is
-
that our God's going to do. Always. Always. Now,
-
we got that off the screen now. These are all
-
the verses that we looked at last week. We're
-
not going to repeat it. Every single one of these
-
verses, every single one of them, and then more
-
in our Bible, more in our Bible, point to this
-
Bible fact that there is no other way to salvation.
-
That Jesus is the door and there isn't a second
-
door. That this nonsense that's preached even
-
in Christian churches, and I'm sure is being
-
preached again somewhere right here in our nation
-
this morning, that there are many paths up the
-
mountain, and it doesn't matter which path you
-
take to find God. All those other paths are washed
-
out. All those other paths have no bridge. All
-
those other paths are dead ends. There's only
-
one path that leads to heaven. Jesus said, I
-
am the door. Anyone who comes in through me shall
-
be saved. And he didn't say, and there are a
-
couple of others, and if you're lucky, you'll
-
find him. He didn't say that. He didn't say that.
-
He said, I am the way, the way, the way. Only
-
one path, the way. I am the way. Only one way
-
to get there. Only one way to get there. We live
-
on a dead end. Our road is a dead end road. And
-
if you don't turn off of one of our particular
-
county highways onto our road, you are not going
-
to get there, at least not by vehicle. There's
-
only one path. And we live right toward the end
-
of the dead end, and then we have one driveway
-
that goes up to our house. No second driveway.
-
There's only one path to get to the Clements
-
residence. You don't get there by accident. Only
-
one path. And no one is going to get to heaven
-
by accident. There is only one path. Jesus said
-
it, John 14, 6, I am the way, the truth, and
-
the life. No man comes to the Father except through
-
me. Now, how people can claim the title of Christian,
-
claim to be even born again, call themselves
-
evangelical, say they are a Bible person, but
-
then say, but there are other ways to heaven
-
besides Jesus. Who says? Who says? Is that what
-
God says? Is that what Jesus said? Is that what
-
the Holy Spirit inspired any of the writers of
-
Scripture to say? So all it is is you. It's just
-
you said it. That's it. No, no, no. I've got
-
70 % of other Americans that say it. Okay. Okay.
-
See, my Bible and your Bible, our Bible talks
-
about this. Jesus said this is the master parable.
-
And if you don't get this one, you won't get
-
any of the parables. When the word of God is
-
preached, there are four types of heart conditions
-
where it lands. And the first one is hard and
-
it doesn't even penetrate, just trickles off.
-
And the second are those who wilt because they're
-
not in the majority and people persecute them
-
and mock them and make fun of them. And their
-
friends and their family members question them.
-
and they have no backbone, and they aren't resolved.
-
I find it a whole lot easier just to say, this
-
is the Word of God, and I believe it, than just
-
to say, well, parts of it might be true, and
-
there are some things in here we're not sure
-
of, and some of it's outdated and needs to be
-
updated. You just be uncertain and unsecure and
-
unsure and always bobbing up and down. And I
-
find it, personally, Just a whole lot easier
-
just to be stable. Get up every morning and say,
-
yep, that's my Bible. It is the Word of God.
-
It's inspired in its entirety. It's eternal in
-
its duration. It is to be believed and embraced
-
and lived by everyone that claims the name of
-
Christ. Amen. And it says there is no other way.
-
I realize what the articles say. I realize what
-
your internet says. I realize what the other
-
preachers say. I realize what even in other churches
-
right here in our city say. But the Bible, the
-
B -I -B -L -E. Yes, that's the book for me. Yeah,
-
that's the book for me. It says there is only
-
one way. All right. So for today, today, today.
-
we're going to be looking at John chapter 3 to
John 3 chapter mention
-
start with. John chapter 3 says that you must
John 3 chapter mention
-
be born again. Now again, there are a fair number.
-
I gave my articles away already to be mailed
-
to one of our viewers who asked if she could
-
have them. So I don't have the articles in my
-
possession anymore. They're right over here.
-
But one of them gives the actual number of born
-
-again people who believe that God will recognize
-
your good works and you can come on merit, what
-
you've accomplished and what you've done. And
-
if you lived a good life... and you were nice
-
to other people, you were a good neighbor, then
-
God will take all that into consideration, and
-
He'll allow you in because you were good. I'll
-
just have you listen, then I'll give you the
-
address. Ready? Okay, two people over here. I'll
-
just preach to you. Anybody over here? You ready?
-
If I am right with God because of what I do,
-
then Christ died for nothing. If I'm right with
-
God because of what I do, then Christ died for
-
nothing. That's Galatians 2, verse 21. I do not
-
frustrate the grace of God, for if righteousness
-
comes by the law, that's what I do, then Christ
-
died in vain. He died for nothing. See, if I
-
could live a good life, and if I could be sweet,
-
listen to me out there, you watching this morning,
-
if you could live a good life, and if you could
-
be nice and kind and sweet, you ought to be all
-
those things, and you certainly oughtn't to live
-
a bad life. You ought to be a good neighbor.
-
You ought to be a good employer or a good employee.
-
You ought to be a good friend. You ought to be
-
a good sibling. You ought to be a good parent
-
or a good child or a good grandparent. You ought
-
to be honest. You ought to keep your word. You
-
ought to be truthful. You ought to do what's
-
right. But if that is all it took to get to heaven,
-
Jesus could stay right up there at the right
-
hand of God, never had to come, didn't have to
-
die on the cross. Well, he did for the bad people.
-
How about this? Well, you're one of them. How
-
can you say that, Pastor? It's really easy. The
-
Bible says, for all have sinned and fall short
-
of the glory of God. Romans 3 .23. And since
-
all have sinned, all we have is good sinners
-
and bad sinners. We have good people who sin
-
and bad people who sin because all people have
-
sinned. All have sinned and fall short of the
-
glory of God. And since all have sinned, then
-
all are worthy of death because Romans 6 .23
-
says the wages of sin is death. The wages of
-
sin is not heaven because you're a good person.
-
The wages of sin is death and all of sin, so
-
the wages for all is death. And so then God steps
-
in and says, but the gift of God, gift is unmerited,
-
gift is unearned, gift is undeserved. This week
-
was my birthday. Thank you all, by the way. Had
-
a celebration here on Wednesday night. Had a
-
celebration all day with Paula on Thursday. Had
-
a celebration with some of our family members
-
on Thursday night. And even talked my dad into
-
coming out. Glory to God. Morning, Dad. And thank
-
you all. Thank you all for your cards and notes
-
and for your gifts. I didn't earn any of them.
-
I didn't earn one of them. I didn't do anything
-
for them. Our staff presented a gift to me before
-
service. I didn't do anything to earn that. It
-
was a birthday present. It was a gift. You don't
-
do anything to earn a gift. I feel almost embarrassed
-
sometimes. I said it on Thursday night. I said,
-
I didn't bring you all here to get stuff from
-
you. I mean, I brought you here to eat meatballs
-
and cheesy potatoes and birthday cake. I don't
-
know, Bishop, I don't know how I feel about this.
-
I don't want to start, you know, I don't want
-
to start anything this morning, but I can't find
-
anything in the Bible about celebrating birthdays.
-
There's only two people in the whole Bible that
-
we have record of that celebrated their birthday.
-
I should just leave it right there and let people
-
just do their own Bibles, shouldn't I? Only two
-
people in the whole Bible ever celebrated their
-
birthday. So I don't know how I feel about it.
-
Celebrate them. I really don't. Pharaoh and King
-
Herod. Only two people in the whole Bible that
-
it ever says anything about them celebrating
-
the day of their birth. I just throw that in
-
for free. Some of you, I might as well just close
-
right now because you won't hear another word.
-
Was he saying that? Oh, I didn't say anything.
-
Blow out your candles. Eat your cake. I think
-
you're okay. The point is, you get gifts. And
-
you don't earn them. If you get a paycheck, you
-
earned it. That's why you go. That is why you
-
do what you do. You go to work, you get a paycheck.
-
You earned it. You earned it. No one will earn
-
heaven. It was earned for you, and you have to
-
receive it as a gift. Now, this verse... These
-
verses, I should say, we'll read the third chapter
-
of John here, and then we might just have to
-
close. But that's okay. We get to come back next
-
week. If the Lord tarries. I'll paraphrase just
-
the first couple of verses so we can make our
-
way through. John chapter 3, this man named Nicodemus
John 3 chapter mention
-
came to Jesus, and he said, we know you've come
-
from God. And Jesus answered him and said, And
-
this is really important, because what Nicodemus
-
says is, we know that you are a teacher come
-
from God. No one could do the miracles that you
-
do unless God be with him. So listen real carefully
-
to what's happening. This man comes to Jesus.
-
To Jesus, he's in the flesh. He's manifested
-
on planet Earth in human form. And he says to
-
him, we know you are come from God. No one could
-
do what you do unless God was with him. So he
-
confesses right here, Jesus, you've come from
-
God, and you've done miracles. God is with you.
-
And Jesus said that's not enough to make it to
-
heaven. Not enough to believe in Jesus. Not enough
-
to believe he came from God. Not enough to believe
-
he did miracles. Apparently that's not enough.
-
Because Jesus looked at him and in the next sentence
-
said to this same man who just confessed, I believe
-
that you came from God. And he said to him, verily,
-
verily. Now what does the Bible mean when it
-
says verily, verily? Truly, truly. It means pay
-
attention. Whenever he says verily, but when
-
he says verily, verily, that means like, that
-
means like. Okay, don't be distracted right now.
-
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the
-
kingdom of God. Now, Nicodemus, he's naturally
-
minded. Not that anybody today isn't, but he
-
was more naturally minded. He wasn't born again.
-
He didn't have the Spirit of God on the inside
-
of him to help him. You and I do. And he immediately
-
says, Born again. See, the easiest way probably
-
to understand this is what Jesus said, you have
-
to be born a second time. If you're only born
-
once, raise your hand if you were born once.
-
This is not a trick question. This is not a trick
-
question. Being born again means you have to
-
be born twice. Twice born. Twice born. That's
-
Bible vernacular. You have to be twice born.
-
And so Nicodemus says, we know you're a teacher
-
come from God. No one could do these miracles
-
unless you came from God. And Jesus looked at
-
him and said, unless a man's born again, he'll
-
never see the kingdom of God. Unless a man is
-
twice born, unless you have been born a second
-
time, you cannot go to heaven. Well, if you think
-
naturally, you're in trouble right here, right
-
now. And that's exactly what Nicodemus does.
-
He backs up. He says, what? How could I crawl
-
up into my mother's womb and be born a second
-
time? That's what he says. Next verse. How shall
-
a man be born a second time, twice born, born
-
again when he's old? Can he enter a second time
-
in his mother's womb and be born? Can you imagine
-
Jesus when he talks to people? How long must
-
I tolerate you? And he said, you have to be born
-
twice. You have to be born twice. See, the Bible
-
talks about two births and teaches two births
-
and two deaths. One birth is natural. The second
-
birth is spiritual. It's a spiritual rebirth.
-
or your physical, the outward you. The new birth
-
comes by the Holy Spirit, and it's the inside
-
you. It's the eternal you. The spiritual and
-
eternal part of your being is reborn. The exterior,
-
the natural part of your being, isn't. It retains
-
all the same characteristics, shape of your face
-
and your eyes and your hair color and your height.
-
None of that changes. Everything changes on the
-
inside. On the inside. The Bible also teaches
-
two deaths. And if you're only born once, you're
-
going to die twice. The natural death where you
-
breathe out your last and your body gets still
-
and starts to cool instantly. And eventually
-
rigor mortis sets in and we bury it. But you've
-
left that body. You depart. If you're a Christian,
-
you depart to be with Christ, which is by far
-
the best. You depart into the everlasting presence
-
of God. Matthew 25 says, if you aren't, and if
-
your name is not written in the Lamb's book of
-
life, you descend into everlasting torment, prepared
-
for the devil and his race. That's the second
-
death. That is the second death. Want to see
-
that in Scripture? Okay, I'm going to have to
-
keep you here. That all right? Turn to the last
-
page of the Bible. Turn to Revelation chapter
Revelation 21 chapter mention
-
21. Oh, I don't even have time to do all this,
-
but I'll just give you a couple of verses, okay?
-
All right. It's talking about the thousand -year
-
reign of Christ in those first five verses of
-
Revelation chapter 20. And verse 5 says, The
Revelation 20 chapter mention
-
rest of the dead live not again till the thousand
-
years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
-
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the
-
first resurrection. On such the second death
-
has no power. The second death has no power.
-
Look at verse 14. Ready? Verse 14. And death
-
and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This
-
is the second death. And whoever's not found
-
written in the book of life was cast into the
-
lake of fire. There's a first death, and there's
-
a second death. And everyone who's died once,
-
everyone who's... Life has ceased, no matter
-
at what stage, no matter for what cause. Awaits
-
judgment day. And only then will it be determined
-
whether or not they will die the second time.
-
And that's plunge into the lake of fire forever
-
and ever and ever. But if you've been born twice,
-
you won't die twice. If you've been only born
-
once and never been born again, you'll die both
-
those times, naturally and then eternally. But
-
if you're born twice, twice born, born once naturally
-
through your mother, that's the only way to get
-
into this planet, the only way to get into the
-
human race, the only way, irrefutable. I don't
-
even know if some of these unbelieving believers
-
don't believe that. You come through your mom.
-
And he says, how can I crawl up in my mom's womb
-
again and be born a second time? And Jesus, back
-
to John 3, and we'll close. Jesus says, verse
-
5, except a man be born of water, that's the
-
natural birth, and born of what? Born of the
-
Spirit. He cannot enter the kingdom of God. That
-
which is born of human parents, that which is
-
born of the flesh, is flesh. That which is born
-
of the Spirit... is spirit. Your parents gave
-
you that outward encasement. They gave you that
-
set of legs and set of feet and set of hands,
-
and they gave you that pretty face, and they
-
gave you that posture. That all came from your
-
human parents. The Holy Spirit doesn't change
-
that. That which is born of the Spirit is your
-
spirit. Look up here at the screen. We won't
-
turn to it. Get my piano player up here. That'll
-
help me. even know I'm wrapping up. 1 Thessalonians
-
5, 23. Remember this verse? Remember this verse?
-
Paul is writing, it says, the very God of peace
-
sanctify you entirely. And I pray God that your
-
whole, now watch this. I pray God, I need three
-
men up here. You three will do. Yep. And I pray
-
God, and I pray God, and I pray God. That's your
-
whole spirit. Remember, this is just one person.
-
Get closer. Get tight. Get real tight. Okay,
-
you pull out in front here. No, not you. Not
-
you. You're a spirit man. You're the hidden man
-
of the heart. Your soul. Your body. Now, which
-
one can you see? Exclusively. Which one can you
-
kind of sort of see a little bit of? Soul. That's
-
the personality. That's mind, will, emotions.
-
That's what makes you the person that you are.
-
What can't you hardly notice at all? Now, let's
-
switch them around. Let's make you the spirit.
-
Let's make you Hulk, Hogan, the body. Now, that's
-
how it is most of the time right there. Yep,
-
spirit, soul, and body. And the only reason that
-
the Bible does this is so that we can identify
-
that we truly have been made in the image of
-
God. After His likeness. God is three parts,
-
spirit, soul, and body. We are Father, Son, Holy
-
Spirit. He is. And He said, I'm going to make
-
this man, and we're going to make him in our
-
image and after our likeness. Read Genesis again.
-
God didn't say, I'm going to make him in my image
-
and my likeness. He said, we're going to make
-
him in our image and in our likeness. And he
-
made Adam a living soul. He took his body from
-
the dust of the earth. They can still take your
-
body, any hair, bones, any organ, skin, anything.
-
And it's only made up of the elements that come
-
out of soil. Bishop, stand up. I want everybody
-
to see how much darker my complexion is than
-
Bishop Augustine. See? See? They call me white.
-
Am I white? No. No. Every pigmentation of every
-
human being somehow mimics some soil that's on
-
planet Earth. It's either a little more yellow
-
or a little more red or a little more dark or
-
real dark or brownish. Every human being's complexion,
-
their skin, somehow reflects the elements of
-
the planet because that's what we're made out
-
of. A great, great majority of the percentage
-
of our outward being is water. Just water. H2O.
-
And the rest of it's a little bit of magnesium,
-
a little bit of copper, and a little bit of riboflavin.
-
I don't even know what that is. Vitamin A and
-
vitamin C and iron and niacin. It's just elements
-
out of the soil. And you put one of these bodies
-
back in the soil, what does it become? From the
-
dust you were taken and to the dust you shall
-
return. That's the body. That's the body. But
-
our God wants us to see that there is an outward
-
man and there's also an inward man. And the inward
-
man is made up of the Spirit and the soul. And
-
the only thing sharp enough to divide the two
-
is the Word of God. Hebrews 4 .12 The only thing
-
sharp enough to divide asunder between soul and
-
spirit is God's Word. Otherwise, you can't divide
-
them. They're like linked. They go together.
-
The eternal part of you is spirit. And you have
-
a soul. And they're never separated. The soul
-
makes you who you are. The individual qualities
-
of every human being, that's the soul. And then
-
you live inside of a body. And the only part
-
of this three -part being that your parents gave
-
you was the bod. Was the body. God is the Father.
-
of all spirits. The Father of spirits. Shall
-
we not be in subjection to the Father of spirits
-
and live? And he's placed this being together,
-
a body, with a soul, and a spirit. And he takes
-
1 Thessalonians 5 .23, pulls them apart, pulls
-
it out, lays it in front of you, and says, this
-
is who you are. This is every human. You are
-
a spirit. You're not a body. You're a spirit.
-
You have a soul. You have a body. And the Holy
-
Spirit, when you're born again, Nicodemus, doesn't
-
mean your body has to somehow get birthed a second
-
time. It's not your body that gets birthed. It's
-
your spirit that gets reborn. Your spirit gets
-
reborn in the nature of God. In the nature of
-
God. And you're a new creature. See, going through
-
a class doesn't make you a new creature. Following
-
a set of rules and a code of conduct doesn't
-
make you a new creature. Getting dipped in water
-
or having water poured on you does not make you
-
a new creature. Joining a church does not make
-
you a new creature. Giving money into a project
-
doesn't make you a new creature. The only thing
-
that makes you a new creature, a new creation,
-
and that's what 2 Corinthians 5 .17 says, if
-
any man be a Christ, he's a new creature, a new
-
creation. This part of your being, the spirit
-
part of your being, the eternal part of your
-
being is recreated. A Greek lexicon will tell
-
you that word, creature, means a brand new creation
-
that has never existed before. A brand new creation
-
that's never existed before. Now, if this is
-
what existed before, and you get born again,
-
this old creature has to leave because it's a
-
brand new creation. Brand new creature that...
-
Now, I should have picked someone else. Come
-
here, Mary. Because I want to flip people out.
-
I want them to turn their head sideways and say,
-
what did he say? Your spirit doesn't have a gender.
-
Your spirit doesn't have a gender. So, you know,
-
it looked like one before, but that old one passed
-
away. It's a brand new creation that never before
-
existed, and now you get to be the... Spirit
-
man. Kind of tucked in there, right behind the
-
soul. And the soul you recognize as people's
-
personality, what they're like, their mind, their
-
will, their emotions. That's all in their soul.
-
And your spirit doesn't have to be renewed anymore.
-
Your spirit's already been recreated. Your mind
-
has to be renewed. The saving of your soul is
-
what James chapter 1 verse 21 says. Receive with
-
meekness the engrafted word which is able to
-
save your soul. Your soul isn't saved yet. Still
-
got stinking thinking. Still are carnally minded.
-
Still have things that need to be renewed and
-
changed. But your spirit? Already changed after
-
the image of God. Perfect. That's a one -time
-
instant event. Renewing your mind is a lifelong
-
process. And what about my body? Oh, thank God
-
for the 8th chapter of Romans that says the day
-
is coming when the last trumpet blows. 1 Corinthians
1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention
-
chapter 15 says when corruptible puts on incorruption
-
and imperfect becomes perfect and temporal becomes
-
eternal. And on that day, our body will be redeemed.
-
The redemption of our body. You know, all the
-
people that have gone to heaven, that's their
-
soul and their spirit that's there. Their body
-
still awaits that moment when they're resurrected
-
and changed. And then and only then will our
-
whole being, thank you all. Thank you. Thank
-
you. Only then will our whole being and our whole
-
body be redeemed. And we'll be able to stand
-
then in the presence of God because Flesh and
-
blood cannot stand in God's presence. That's
-
what it says. Neither does corruption. Corruption
-
put on incorruption. It's still corruptible.
-
It still ages. It still can be tempted. But one
-
day, whether you leave your body behind and go,
-
and it'll catch up, or whether you're changed
-
in the twinkling of an eye, we'll all be changed
-
and redeemed. What about those people, Pastor?
-
What about those people who went to church? What
-
about those people who trusted in their infant
-
baptism? What about those people who went to
-
class? What about those people who came to your
-
church? What about those people who watched and
-
virtually joined you and streamed? What about
-
those people? Verse 7, marvel not that I say
-
to you, you must be born again. You must be born
-
again. I don't care how many classes you take.
-
It doesn't matter how much money you give. It
-
doesn't matter how many songs you sing. It doesn't
-
matter how many people you help across the street.
-
Your spirit remains dead until you're born again.
-
And then you're reborn. And that's a work of
-
the Holy Spirit. And that's a subject for next
-
week's service. Let's stand. That's enough for
-
today. We're covering our statement of faith.
-
And our statement of faith here in this particular
-
church just absolutely does our best to conform
-
to God's Word, the Bible. And number 10 on our
-
list, on our statement of faith is, you must
-
be born again. You must be born again. Pastor,
-
you spoke disparagingly about giving and baptism
-
and going to class and learning things. No, no,
-
I don't mean to speak disparagingly about any
-
of them. I'm just saying I said it and I'll say
-
it again. I'll continue to say it. That's not
-
what causes you to be born again. The Spirit
-
of God has to do a work. on the inside of you
-
and the eternal part of you. And that comes when
-
you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and put
-
your whole faith and trust and hope and confidence
-
and reliance on Him and what He did for you on
-
Calvary's cross and in dying and in God raising
-
Him from the dead. You have to make Him the Lord
-
of your life. Exclusively your Lord. And confess
-
with your mouth His Lordship. It's what our Bible
-
says. It is what our Bible says. When I read
-
those articles that I had here earlier this morning,
-
and it says, what makes you think you're born
-
again? And over and over and over and over, 77
-
some percent, I believe it said, say, well, because
-
I confessed my sins and asked to be forgiven.
-
I don't read that in my Bible. Because I asked
-
Jesus into my heart. You know what? I don't read
-
that in my Bible. I think there'd be a lot of
-
people be turned away from the gate. And they're
-
going to say, but I thought, but I thought, but
-
I thought, reminds me of Matthew 7, when they
-
said, but I thought we prophesied in your name.
-
And we've done miracles in your name. And we
-
cast out devils in your name. We did many wonderful
-
things in your name. And he's going to say, I
-
never knew you. I never knew you. See, there's
-
one major religion in the world and in America
-
that tells people that they receive Jesus when
-
they take the element of communion. That's receiving
-
Jesus. Maybe we should talk about that. Because
-
my Bible says that we're saved by faith. Not
-
by eating and drinking something. By faith. For
-
by grace are you saved through faith. That not
-
of yourself, that's a gift of God. Not of anything
-
that I do, lest I should boast. Oh, I hope to
-
have another opportunity to serve God by serving
-
His Word to you. I hope I get one more opportunity.
-
If I do, it'll be Wednesday night here. And if
-
we get to finish this, one particular aspect
-
of what we believe, it'll be next Sunday. And
-
short of the Lord returning, I'll be here. Hope
-
you will be. Praise God. Thank you for watching.
