Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to After the Message Live.
-
We got our live studio audience in here.
-
For those of you listening or watching, whatever camera I'm supposed to be looking at for that part of it, this is the Celebration Church Orlando podcast.
-
And if you are stumbling along this upon this, this is uh just a segment of our podcast we like to call After the Message.
-
And it's a continuation of the previous Sunday sermon.
-
In this case, more like a continuation of theology in general.
-
You know, our summer school series is upon us, and so we decided to have a component of this.
-
But for the first time, we wanted to invite people from our church to be a part of this, and so we're so glad that you guys are with us and joining us.
-
And hopefully you came uh prepared to ask a few questions tonight.
-
Yes, no?
-
Did someone yes, we came prepared.
-
Okay, that's what I like to hear.
-
Jessica Harder did not come prepared, and that's on the internet forever.
-
Before we jump into questions, um Vinny, talk a little bit about we kind of uh well, I guess I kind of impromptu uh asked you to lead the charge on the summer school series, but I think you've done a phenomenal job leading us through this.
-
But when we came up with that this idea in planning last year, it was to kind of create a little bit more of a classroom feel and to just cover a few different topics.
-
We knew that it was going to be different communicators um throughout the month of June.
-
And so instead of sometimes it's it's hard if you if you get boxed into like, okay, you're preaching on First Corinthians chapter five, you know, and so it's a little bit easier if you go, hey, here's here's what we're going for.
-
And so here are some ideas of topics that you could preach or teach on.
-
Um so that was kind of the idea behind it when we were doing our planning meeting.
-
But since then, when we started the the planning of it in this year, can you talk about uh just the initial approach, some of our ideas for this, and how you feel like the series has gone so far?
-
Yeah, absolutely.
-
Um since the beginning, our idea was to have something more teachy than preachy, nothing wrong with the pre-preaching inspirational type of sermons.
-
We all love that, but we wanted to bring back this idea of okay, I'm going to church and I want to learn something new today.
-
Yeah.
-
But not only that, not only learning something new, but also, and the most important thing, I'm learning something new that I am able to put it into practice tomorrow.
-
Yeah.
-
Um, so that was the main idea.
-
And then, of course, we were like, okay, so should we just choose one topic from theology out of five thousand out there, and we just break into five weeks, or should we just, you know what, you choose whatever it's burning in your heart and you teach about that, and then we decided that that was the best idea.
-
Yeah, so of course, we have Pastor Nate on the first week sharing a little bit of soteriology, the the process of salvation, and then I was there on this on the second week to talk about the name of God, and then we have Pastor Chris Brooks to talk about soul on the third week, Pastor Lindsay yesterday, or last Sunday, uh preaching about uh worship history.
-
I think that was amazing.
-
And then this next Sunday or this upcoming Sunday will be our last um Sunday in this series.
-
Um, I'll have the privilege to preach again on a topic that of course I'm not telling them.
-
They need to go to church to know what that is, but I think it will be very practical.
-
Yeah, and uh I'm excited.
-
I send an email to to the staff members today asking then.
-
So I'm I'm thinking about covering covering this subject, and they were all very absolutely with that, so I'm excited.
-
And then Saturday night you'll change it and be like, listen, guys.
-
Probably probably, yeah.
-
Um if if people have questions and they want to uh get in the queue at they as they would say across the pond, feel free to do that.
-
But one more question for you, Vinny.
-
Um uh what were some uh you mentioned like some of the ideas that we had.
-
What what were some of the other ideas?
-
I can't remember.
-
Well, soteriology was one of days.
-
So each week covering a different element of salvation.
-
So reconciliation, forgiveness, adoption, sanctification.
-
Um that was one idea.
-
The other idea was covering the name the names of God, but one name on on each week.
-
Um what else?
-
Um Ephesians 5, was that it?
-
Yes, I think so.
-
We talked about maybe we cover one week what what it means to be an apostle, what it means to be a master, what it means to be an evangelist, what it means to be um uh a prophet.
-
Yeah.
-
Um, so that was a great idea.
-
Um and uh the good thing is we have all documented, so next year if we decided to do this again, we already have ideas.
-
Yeah, we'll be good.
-
Okay, if no one's gonna jump up and ask a question first, we can ask um ask a question that we actually got in the question jar in the rotunda, if you want to do that.
-
Sure.
-
Okay, let me scroll down here.
-
So this person asked, uh, Jesus says he came to fulfill the law, not change it.
-
But how can it be explained?
-
Um, but it can be explained and some sometimes look uh contradictory, uh like when Paul had the dream and God said that uh it's not it's okay to eat animals and they're not there's no such thing as unclean anymore, but you know, then Jesus goes on to say, like I haven't come to abolish the law.
-
So how do those how do those two passage, how do you reconcile those two?
-
One looks like it says, okay, there's no more law anymore, and the other one says, Jesus says, Well, no, the law's not going anywhere.
-
What is what does that mean?
-
We will need 70 minutes just for that question.
-
Okay.
-
So you know.
-
But uh I think the confusion in in in in this is when we when we read Jesus saying that he's coming to fulfill the law, we automatically change this word fulfill to obey.
-
And I I I don't think Jesus came to obey the law.
-
I think one passage that that's very familiar to all of us is when that woman was caught in adultery, adultery, yeah.
-
And then everybody is ready to stone her, right?
-
Because that was in the law, right?
-
Yeah, then Jesus comes to the picture and he goes, Hey, if you have not seen, be the one to throw the first rock.
-
And then everybody's like, Okay.
-
But if we think about Jesus is also saying that to himself, he had no sin, right?
-
So he had the right to stone her, not only the right because he had not sinned, but he also had the right because he was covered by the law.
-
So the right thing to do, since he has no sin, and since he was living under the law, was okay, boom.
-
He didn't do that.
-
So everybody's looking at him and thinking, okay, you're disobeying the law right now.
-
And that's exactly what he was doing.
-
And the law is like, okay, on a Saturday, you cannot do such and such.
-
And Jesus is like, guys, leave me alone.
-
I just want to do what God's put it in in my heart.
-
So I think the confusion is thinking that Jesus came to obey the law.
-
Jesus came one to bring the right interpretation of the law.
-
That's the very first thing.
-
Okay.
-
So they they were angry at him because he was not doing what they thought was the right interpretation of the law.
-
Okay.
-
But it was a very limited vision.
-
Um, they had a very limited vision of what God was trying to communicate to Moses and Sinai.
-
Um, so they read that.
-
They were, they were like, okay, I think what God is saying here is we cannot do anything on Saturday.
-
Then Jesus comes and he goes, No, let me let me explain this better to you.
-
And they are just angry at him.
-
So the very first thing is he came to bring the good interpretation of the law, but the fulfillment part, I believe, is a prophetic.
-
Um it's it's prophetic.
-
In the Old Testament, we see in a tabernacle, pretty much everything that Lindsay said yesterday, that everything was pointing to Jesus.
-
Right.
-
Everything was like, okay, look at this guy, look at this guy, look at this guy.
-
So when the Bible says that Jesus is the fulfillment of the law, I believe what it's saying is everything in the old testament was pointing to him, and now he's right here.
-
He is the personification of law and grace.
-
He's the upgrade, and you guys are just thinking that he's coming here to obey what do you guys think it's the right interpretation of the law?
-
No, he's here because the prophets said and and and prophesied about him.
-
Now he's here to show to you guys the law and grace walks together in this new interpretation called the new covenant.
-
Um, just to wrap this, um I think one mistake that it's very common is thinking, okay, so if Jesus is the fulfillment of the law, there is no more law.
-
Yeah.
-
And and I don't think this is correct.
-
Yeah.
-
Um, because in Romans chapter 10, verse 4, Paul says, I am under Christ's law now.
-
I am under his correct interpretation of the law.
-
Now the difference is in the Old Testament, the law used to work as a way of having relationship with God.
-
The law, it's a way of showing the world I belong to God.
-
Okay.
-
So that's why I do this, I do this, I do this, I don't do this.
-
And then we we we take this model and we bring to the New Testament, and and that's a crazy mistake.
-
That's religion.
-
That's when religion goes to you.
-
So, based in our interpretation of the Old Testament, the good way of having a good relationship with God right now is you don't listen to Beyoncé, you don't wear to this type of clothes, you cannot go to this type of places.
-
No, yeah, yeah.
-
The new law in Christ is all about love and relationship, okay, and not a list of things I need to do or don't or don't do.
-
Okay.
-
So there is grace in the old testament, but there is law in the new testament.
-
But the law is based on love, not based on a list of things I need to do or don't do.
-
Yeah.
-
Really quick.
-
Is that clear?
-
Yeah, it is.
-
Is that clear?
-
It is.
-
But just uh and maybe this will take another 70 minutes, but how do how does one how does one not abuse that, right?
-
I think we always struggle with that, right?
-
Okay.
-
I think that's um that's something we all we always struggle with.
-
Yeah, this is what I do in my personal life.
-
If I am not a hundred percent if I should do something or not, I don't do it.
-
Yeah.
-
Just in case, you know?
-
Yeah.
-
Um, and also something that we cannot ignore, and and maybe that's the most important thing we need to we need to keep in our minds.
-
We have the Holy Spirit, right?
-
Right?
-
Yeah, Lindsay mentioned this verse yesterday, 1 Corinthians.
-
Paul is just saying, don't you guys realize that you are the temple and the Holy Spirit is in you?
-
So I'm pretty sure we all have in situations that we're about to do something, and the Holy Spirit is like, Shh, are you sure?
-
That's when the Holy Spirit's polite.
-
With me, it's more like, oh, what are you doing?
-
Right?
-
Or the opposite is also true.
-
Sometimes you're just leaving your life, and then the Holy Spirit goes, I want you to go do something very specific.
-
Do you go?
-
Do you guys know what I'm talking about?
-
Yeah, that happens with you guys, yeah.
-
So I think that's God leading us and figuring out how to live a life that honors God and grace.
-
Yeah, God is not buck boxing me right in.
-
Well, and even the scriptures talk about I'm gonna write the law on your heart.
-
Exactly.
-
You know, it's it was on stone tablets, but now, because of the gift of the Holy Spirit, it's written inside of us, yeah.
-
And I think one last thing to wrap this up is also understanding that yes, the Holy Spirit will reveal, the Holy Spirit will tell you things, but something that the Holy Spirit is asking you to do or asking you to stop doing, the Holy Spirit is asking you, is asking you that, not everybody.
-
So I have a couple of things in my life that I do or don't do, but I cannot go on stage and say, I think you guys should stop doing this, yeah, or I think you guys should start doing this, yeah, because that was a revelation to myself.
-
To make this very clear, uh in an example that I think will be easier to understand, I don't drink alcohol.
-
Vinny, why?
-
Because in my relationship with God, I understood that this was the right thing for me to do.
-
If you drink alcohol, I won't be the one saying stop doing this.
-
God doesn't want you to do that.
-
Because what God revealed to me, He revealed to me.
-
Right.
-
Paul would say, if you if you practice the Saturday, or if you decide to take Saturday to rest, let's put that way, you don't judge if somebody don't do that.
-
Yeah.
-
If you eat some type, some some types of food, you don't judge people.
-
So so the two keys here is one, ask God and the Holy Spirit.
-
Two, once you have the revelation, mind your own businesses.
-
Amen.
-
Paola has got a question.
-
Let's give it up for Paula, our first question of the night.
-
Thank you.
-
All right.
-
Thank you.
-
Okay, so I think in this She has a notebook.
-
I think I do.
-
Um, so I think in this message we've mentioned in this series, we've mentioned a few times just how even back then when scripture was written, people were misconstruing the word of God, even in the smallest ways.
-
For example, when we had the lesson about um the names of God and misconstruing do not take the Lord's name in vain.
-
Um, and even right now in this question, we've had a bit of misconstruing with what it means to fulfill the law versus obeying it versus abolishing it.
-
Um, what is one thing that you feel like is a misconstruction in the like in today's church that if we understood what God was really trying to tell us, it would change the way that we live everyone.
-
Oh my gosh, that's such a great question.
-
I love that.
-
Go ahead.
-
Oh my gosh.
-
I think I need to think a little bit.
-
I definitely need to think a little bit.
-
That's a great question.
-
So something that we're misinterpreting, you're saying, uh, but it's it's actively practiced or accepted in the church.
-
Yeah.
-
You got something, Yoli?
-
Uh-huh.
-
That's exactly what they're trying to do with the Yeah.
-
Yeah, so for those listening who I don't know if the room might pick that up, but Yoli's basically saying when you were referring to Grayson Law, um, the man wasn't brought into the picture as well as the woman you're saying.
-
Okay.
-
And you're saying that sometimes we can do the same thing in the church.
-
Got it.
-
I I I I think I do have an answer for your question.
-
I think it's two answers actually.
-
I think the first one it's not necessarily a misunderst understanding, but it's more like I wish we all could understand more about the concept of redemption.
-
And I had a privilege to preach about this two two years ago in our church.
-
I think when every time the Bible talks about redemption, we understand redemption as salvation only, but redemption is way more than this.
-
Redemption is buying a property.
-
Um, understanding that when I accept Jesus, it it it's uh it's transactional.
-
Redemption is transactional.
-
It's he it's Jesus buying me for him.
-
I think this is very powerful, and it will take not only 70 minutes, but four editions with 70 minutes each, so we can unpack that.
-
But I would love us all to have a uh a bigger revelation of redemption.
-
But a second one then that and and I think that one is a little bit more practical, especially here in the US, and I I can I'm taking a risk of being unfair here, but I would love us all here to uh understand better how important it is uh to have a legit relationship with the Holy Spirit.
-
I think sometimes we treat him like uh God, absolutely, Jesus amazing, the Holy Spirit, eh and and if we just you know invest in his relationship, if if we invest in seeking the gifts like Paul and First Corinthians uh you know advise us to do, if we uh seek God so he can produce in us the fruit of the spirit, if we are just walking in the spirit, if we understand what being baptized with the Holy Spirit is, I think that will change everything.
-
Um so I think that would be my answer, Paula.
-
I would love us all uh to realize, oh my gosh, yes, Paracletus, he's available, he's available to us, he wants to guide, he wants to comfort her, but he also wants to develop a lot of things inside of us that can change our our lives, our family, our city, our nation, right?
-
So I think that would be my and I also had an opportunity to preach a little bit about this in our church.
-
I call I title the message More Than Just an Experience because when we think about the Holy Spirit, we think, oh, it's just an experience.
-
Oh, the Holy Spirit touched me, and experiences with the Holy Spirit, amazing.
-
I love them, but there is way more than just experiences.
-
Yeah, I think I think for me, I've been thinking a lot recently, even had a conversation with someone in our church today.
-
Um, but it's along the same lines as just the ownership of the body to realize what part they play, because even when we were talking about the Ephesians 5 and the certain gifts, you know, the the the staff, full-time vocational ministry staff model is a very contemporary and mainly Western idea.
-
Um, you know, there's there's definitely people that the majority of the world who are pastors are bivocational pastors.
-
You know, I mean that's just the reality of the majority of the world.
-
So I count it a privilege and an honor, obviously, to to be able to do what I do.
-
But if I'm honest, the best thing that could ever happen to the church as a whole is for me to be worked out of a job because we've all taken responsibility of of what acts really looked like, you know?
-
Um and I think yeah, there should be there should be apostles and prophets and and pastors and evangelists, like all of those things should matter, but I don't know if it should rest on the shoulder of, and depending on the size of your church, a certain amount or a certain percentage.
-
Does that make sense?
-
So being able to look and this is something that I'm still trying to figure out how to best lead in that, but being able to activate people, and maybe it is back to the Holy Spirit, like letting them know, like, hey, this is actually available to you, and and you're not we're not teaching, I guess, how to access that properly, or even letting it be known that that is available.
-
Does that make sense?
-
Absolutely.
-
So I think that would be one thing.
-
Um yeah, and and it kind of comes down to also uh the serving aspect of our church.
-
I love the fact that so many of us, even in this room, are on a team and we serve, and but a lot of times that can and even for me, it can just be like an added thing.
-
Like this is something I do as opposed to this is something that overflows from me just because of my relationship.
-
But like I ha I want to serve, I want to be, you know what I'm saying, as opposed to this is just another aspect of my responsibilities or a just another part of my life, and and being a little bit more compartmentalized as opposed to wanting it to be more holistic and as a part of my approach to ministry, even if I'm not paid.
-
Does that make sense?
-
Absolutely.
-
So yeah, I think this this model that Paul um decided to share with us, I think it is so perfect if we think about that.
-
It it works so well together.
-
Yeah.
-
Um I don't know if you guys know well the difference between them, so I can spend three minutes touching that.
-
But Paul, he says that God called some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, some to be pastors, some to be masters.
-
Um and there's a couple more things in a verse.
-
And then sometimes we it's just hard for us to understand the distinction, the distinction and how that works.
-
But let's think about let's think about our church for one second, and let's let's think about God bringing Nate to be the apostle.
-
This is not a uh what's the word?
-
Um hierarchy.
-
Thank you.
-
It's it's not the apostle is not more important than the master, or vice versa.
-
It's just it's beautiful when it works together.
-
But in this example, let's say Nate is our apostle.
-
His responsibility is pretty much taking care of the church and the expansion of the church.
-
He's taking care of what's happening in a church, he's taking care of ministries, he's taking care of maybe we're gonna open more churches.
-
He's he he has the the bigger picture.
-
In his example, he will be our thumb.
-
That's a thumb?
-
Yeah, thumb.
-
Why?
-
Because he touches every other, he touches all fingers.
-
So he has a close relationship with this, with this, with this, and with this, and I'll tell you what it is in a second.
-
But let's say in his church, I am the prophet.
-
The prophet is the finger index.
-
The prophet always points where we're going.
-
Um, in my church in Brazil, the lead pastor, he's a prophet, and it's amazing how it's easy for him to understand.
-
In this season, I think what God wants us to do as a church is this, and then he will tell the apostle, and the apostle will facilitate how we're gonna do that.
-
Got it.
-
Is that simple?
-
Yeah, is that easy to understand?
-
Yeah, what about this guy?
-
Careful with that one.
-
Yeah, I'm this is the evangelist.
-
Why is that?
-
Because he's the biggest one, he goes longer, he goes outside of the church to invite people to come.
-
And wait, when they come, they will see there is a church knowing where to go and somebody taking care of that of that.
-
What about this guy?
-
This is the pastor, because he is married with the church.
-
So when the evangelists bring people, who will take care of them?
-
Right.
-
Pastor, yeah, it will be pastor, I don't know how pastor, I don't so I forgot the microphone.
-
Pastor, I don't know how to fix my marriage.
-
Pastor, I don't know.
-
I'm struggling with depression.
-
And the little one, the pinky, is that it is the master.
-
Why?
-
Because he's going to talk about little things that no nobody wants to talk about.
-
He's going to teach, he's going to so think about this.
-
The apostle, he takes care of everything, he touches every single one.
-
The prophet points the way.
-
The evangelist go and find people and bring people so the pastor can take care of them and the master can teach them.
-
Can you imagine a church working like this?
-
How amazing that would be.
-
Now, sometimes it's very easy to think like, oh, I think God called me to be a master.
-
So preaching for my neighbors is the evangelist's responsibility.
-
Of course, that's not it.
-
God called us to spread the gospel, God called us to take care of people every day.
-
I'm talking about a specific assignment.
-
I'm talking about a mindset.
-
For me to go out of my way to preach the gospel at a gas station, it requires a lot of me.
-
But I have friends that it's extremely easy.
-
They are like at Publix, and then the lady asks, Did you find everything you were looking for?
-
And they go, Have you found Jesus?
-
Because it's it's part of who they are.
-
Yeah, it's easy for them to do that.
-
Yeah.
-
Not so much for me.
-
For me, it's easier to take Hebrews 10 and break down every single verse in that chapter.
-
So a church who understands that this is a great model, it's just a method.
-
It's it's a very strong church.
-
And and yeah.
-
It's Ephesians 4, by the way.
-
Four, four, yeah.
-
Yeah.
-
You should have said something.
-
I know.
-
I was I was not sure if it was four or five.
-
It's four.
-
Good to know.
-
All right.
-
Who's got a question?
-
It's gonna be a really short podcast.
-
Go.
-
Yeah, it's all good.
-
Just just for the audio purposes.
-
Yeah, okay.
-
So when you were talking about um activating people in the church, do you believe that has something to do with the lack of discipleship and leadership to push people toward the next step that kind of inhibits that process of people identifying themselves in those different elements that could work together with the church?
-
Yeah, good question.
-
I think it has to do, yes, so definitely take responsibility as leaders in that too, but I think it's um it's sort of a modern phenomena, and at least in our circles, or the way that I've been trained, um that was the way, right?
-
Like you, okay, we need someone to do we need someone to do missions.
-
Let's hire someone to come in and do missions, we need someone to do outreach, let's hire someone to come in and do outreach, you know.
-
So I think that's one aspect of it is kind of relearning, and I think we're we're definitely on the right track with that.
-
Um and yeah, there's probably a teaching component that that could be had there as well, but particularly here, I think, you know, I haven't been across the world that much, but I think here in America the idea of church is very consumeristic, and um, you know, we have admittedly we've probably perpetuated that a little bit, and again, that's just because that's what we know, and um, but I do believe since 2020 there has been some eyes open to that reality, um, especially in the disciple.
-
I mean, since that time, discipleship making has been I mean, you look anywhere, it's podcasts, it's books, it's every pastor's preaching about discipleship, you know, whereas before it was more so like bring all your friends to this church and get them saved, right?
-
And then, but like what Vinny was talking about, then what?
-
What then what do they do?
-
And so it's I don't necessarily I think God works in all of it, and I think he's definitely not surprised by any of it, but I I do think that there has been a shift over the past four years too.
-
Well, wait a second, what about what about the Great Commission and what about some of the final words of Jesus?
-
Like a lot of times we stop at and baptize them, you know, go and make disciples and baptize them, and we don't read on to and teach them everything that I've commanded you, and so um, but I do believe that that is shifting, and um, so yeah, I I hope we continue to to refine our processes definitely here at celebration.
-
I don't know if you have anything.
-
I think that's perfect.
-
Yeah, okay, cool.
-
I agree with that a hundred percent.
-
Yeah, but I also think that um I was having a conversation with my neighbor the other day.
-
Um great guy.
-
Um he attends um the family attends a church not not far from here, and then I asked him, How is church?
-
And then he said, Um it's great, I guess.
-
And then I said, What do you mean?
-
And then he said, I've I'm not, and and this is what he said.
-
I'll be honest with you, I love playing soccer, but the only day I can play soccer is on Sunday.
-
So I'm not going to church, I'm going to play soccer.
-
And then the congregants will point the church and say, What are you guys doing to disciple?
-
What are you guys doing to activate people?
-
What are you guys doing to lead us?
-
Yeah.
-
And I think a question we need to ask is how many times you go to church in a year?
-
We need someone to lead our missions department.
-
We need someone faithful.
-
And then if there is 56 Sundays in one year and you go to church and 13, you are telling us we cannot count on you.
-
Yeah.
-
Um so I think we the church needs to understand how important discipleship is and activate people.
-
So when I see you, for example, and we we met years ago, and when I see you, and you start by being a voc vocalist, and then you you lead worship, and then you are taking care of OCC, and now you are um um opportunities, and this is not only do you doing more things, this is you maturing in your faith.
-
Yeah, this is you putting in front of your church the fruits of your relationship with God.
-
But do you know why this is happening with you?
-
Because you are always there, yes, because you are faithful.
-
Yeah, so the church is investing in you because you are invested in church, exactly.
-
So I think this is what sometimes we miss.
-
Yeah, as a church, we can guarantee for you guys and for everybody who attends celebration church, what we want is activate you guys to do amazing things.
-
We just need to know from you, okay, I'm here with you guys.
-
Is that is that is that clear?
-
I I think that's a really good point because a lot of times when we do look for leaders in certain aspects, uh, Netflix is on.
-
But when we do look for certain leaders, we're looking at the same people, the same names, you know, and so well, she's over here doing this and this and this and this, and then he's over here doing this and this and this, and you know, and a lot of you are in even in this room, like we can pretty much count on before we even release something like this, for example.
-
Like, I can name five names who I know is gonna be there.
-
Exactly, and they're already doing 12 different things.
-
You know, I was texting someone today about being a group leader, and I know he serves on Saturday, I know he serves on like three teams on Sunday, I know he's already in another group, you know what I mean?
-
So um, so yeah, we play a part, but also we and I mean all of us, we have to take ownership also of our own relationship with God.
-
So and and just a disclaimer so you can go, Corey.
-
When we we also need as congregants to understand the seasons of our lives, yeah.
-
Before Serena, I was way more available.
-
Um so things changed, and then maybe you are here and you go, Vinnie, I understand what you're saying, but you have no idea how my life looks like, and we understand that absolutely a hundred percent.
-
We're not asking you to give something that you don't have.
-
That's not what we're saying.
-
What we're saying is when the ch the season of your life changed and you are more available, we will be here to activate you according to what you can give.
-
Is that is that clear?
-
Yeah, very clear.
-
Corey, can you ask a question while I try and get this graphic back on the screen?
-
Sure, I'll distract everyone.
-
Um, so the question goes out to both of you.
-
Um, you're both newly fathers, well, not newly, but fathers.
-
And one of the things I've noticed as obviously a kid is that when we addressed our fathers when we were younger, we say, hey, dada, and as we mature, daddy, so forth, and then as we get older, just dad.
-
We know their real names, but hopefully we'd never call them to their face by their real name.
-
That's disrespectful.
-
Um so I was wondering, as new Christians, as they, you know, come into understanding God, is it the same natural progression that first we understand God by his name, which is just God, but as we go more and more into our beliefs, we understand the different names of God.
-
And do we how do we use that to address them, whether it's through praise and worship or just prayer?
-
I love that question.
-
No, it's all you, you love the question.
-
You love it.
-
No, you said you love the question.
-
Um I feel I'm talking a lot.
-
Huh?
-
I feel I'm talking a lot.
-
That was the plan.
-
Okay.
-
Corey, let me give you a personal answer to that question.
-
I think there's two lenses we can look at at this.
-
I think the first one, it will be based on Ephesians chapter 3, starting on verse 14 or 1 Corinthians 13, um, or 1 John, and they all say it's expected for you as a child of God, for you to be in this path of maturing.
Ephesians 3 chapter mention
-
Um and honestly, lately I've been reading these passages thinking more like God expects me to grow not only spiritually but emotionally too.
-
Um I think it goes together.
-
So the things I I used to struggle when I was a kid in my faith, I have a better understanding now.
-
Um I'm just maturing in my relationship with God.
-
So, yes, I think it is expected from us to progress, pretty much what what you said.
-
So that's one way of looking at this.
-
The other way of looking at this, and this is more the romantic side of me speaking.
-
I need to, I talked about John, Ephesians, 1 Corinthians.
-
So I'm talking about Paul and John, but we can also look at this through the lenses of Jesus when he's saying, let the kids come.
-
So the romantic side of me thinks that's exactly the relationship I wanna have with him, where I'm just a kid, a hundred percent dependent.
-
That's Serena.
-
She's a well, not anymore, but uh she's she's growing so fast, but so dependent.
-
Um sometimes I just look at her and I think, oh my gosh, she knows nothing.
-
And she asks me 300 questions a day because she knows or she thinks I know.
-
And sometimes I don't do that with God.
-
Sometimes I do the opposite.
-
I do you know nothing, I know.
-
So I think I think there is an invitation for us to mature in our faith, and an invitation from Jesus to, as we mature in our faith, keep the heart as like we're kids.
-
So I'll be honest with you guys.
-
Sometimes during the worship moment, I feel I'm being very honest, okay?
-
Don't judge my expressions of faith.
-
But maybe you guys have seen me in moments of worship just blowing kisses to God.
-
I do that a lot.
-
And the other day, someone from celebration asked me, Why do you do that?
-
And then I just told her, Because that's my relationship with my father.
-
That's what I do, that's how I express that I love him.
-
And again, this is the romantic side of me that I love him, that I, you know, I just want him closer.
-
I'm not telling you to blow kisses to God.
-
That's my relationship with him.
-
But this is me trying to keep my heart as a kid when I'm facing trials.
-
I want to run to my father.
-
I don't want to play the adult thinking, I'm not calling, I know better.
-
You know what I'm saying?
-
Yeah, you see the difference, the difference in the posture.
-
Um, so I think that that will be my answer.
-
I need to mature in my faith.
-
Ephesians 3, 1 Corinthians 13, 1 John.
-
And as I do that, I need to figure out a way of keeping my heart innocent, dependent as a kid.
-
How you will do that in the expression of your worship and faith, that's between you and God.
-
But I've I told Nate once that sometimes I ask God, what should I wear today?
-
And maybe an adult will say, Are you crazy?
-
God is so busy with you, Ukraine right now, and you are just asking him what you should wear.
-
Yeah, I understand, but he's my father.
-
If Serena is asking me, What should I wear?
-
I'll just tell her, let's go there and figure out.
-
I'm just involving him in every single aspect of my life because I want to put myself in this situation of I am a hundred percent dependent while I grow in my in my faith and maturity.
-
Does that make sense?
-
Yeah.
-
I have a tendency to uh to look at God like if I'm facing a trial or perhaps I'm um you know reverting back to old patterns or old ways of of living, to look at God and go, He's probably so frustrated with me right in right now, instead of running to him, you know what I mean?
-
And it's not so much saying like I know better than you, it's just more so me, it's just more so me feeling like if I was the dad, I would be going, You should know better.
-
Like, what do you what are you doing?
-
I've taught you this so many times and be just being really frustrated.
-
So I definitely can can uh empathize with that.
-
Sam's got a question.
-
Nice.
-
Before you go, does this make sense to you guys?
-
Yes, okay.
-
So maturing in faith, but still keeping a posture of a child.
-
Absolutely, understanding more about who God is, what what I'm called to be, you know.
-
I think Pastor Chris said this, and I was like, Oh my gosh, this is so profound, and so it's short and profound.
-
He said, God wants to.
-
To father you.
-
Yeah.
-
I was like, okay, in order for God to father me, I need to be the kid.
-
Yeah, for sure.
-
I need to, I he needs me to go, all right.
-
Yeah.
-
Tell me what to do.
-
Yeah, for sure.
-
Help me with my puzzles.
-
That's what I do with Serena with her princess puzzles every week.
-
Okay.
-
Um, this is a question two-parter.
-
So the first one, yesterday in group, we were talking about agape, like love, and what that looks like.
-
And then, so if you guys can kind of touch on that, and then also we're called to love as Jesus loves us.
-
How do we love like that when we are human and imperfect and we get hurt or we hurt others?
-
How do we love as God wants us to love?
-
Good question.
-
You take the agape part, I'll take the second part.
-
Amazing.
-
The second part I will cover a lot in my message Sunday.
-
Okay.
-
But I'll take the hopefully I don't say anything that will contradict what you say.
-
I'm sure you won't.
-
Um, pretty much in the New Testament we have three words for love.
-
Um, do you guys know this?
-
Yes?
-
So we have Phileo, um, we have um um forgot.
-
Oh, eros and agape, right?
-
Or agape as you guys say.
-
Um so Phileo is pretty much um it's it's the Greek word for the love we feel for for each other.
-
It's it's a love of a sister, of a brother, um, of a dad.
-
That's that's phileo.
-
Eros it's it's it's more like the the passion type of love, the desire type of love, um, the sexual type of love that's eros in the Bible.
-
And agape, it's it's the unconditional type of love, the sacrificial type of love, the love that God or Jesus showed to us in the Bible.
-
I think a passage that it's that encapsulates that very well is that weird conversation that Jesus had with Peter at the beach uh towards the end of the uh Gospel of John.
-
Bible Bible says that Peter is fishing, and apparently he's naked.
-
I guess he's naked.
-
God knows why.
-
But Jesus and I'll I'll tell you why he's naked, because Jesus is in the beach, and Peter sees him, and then the Bible says that Peter put his clothes on and he decided to swim to the beach to find Jesus.
-
That's exactly what he did, and then Jesus is just cooking a fish, and then and then they start a conversation, right?
-
And then Jesus asks Peter, Do you love me?
-
Right three times.
-
Now, what's amazing about this passage is every time in our Bibles we see, do you love me?
-
Do you love me?
-
Do you love me?
-
But in the original Greek the words are very different there.
-
So what Jesus asked Peter is, do you agape me?
-
Do you love me unconditionally?
-
And and Peter answered, I fillel you.
-
I love you like a brother.
-
So a good translation for for this passage would be Jesus asking, Do you love me unconditionally?
-
And Peter replying, I kind of like you.
-
And then the second time, Jesus asks, Do you agape me?
-
And then Peter says, I fill you.
-
On a third time, and this is mind blowing, Jesus changed the question.
-
Jesus asking, So do you fill me?
-
And then the Bible says that Peter got sad because of his questions, because Jesus changed the word right there.
-
So on a third question, Jesus said, So what are you telling me is what you have is Philel?
-
And Peter says, Yes, it's Phil.
-
And then Jesus says, It's fine, it's fine, because your love will grow, and you one day with your life, you will show that you love me, Agape.
-
And then we know that Jesus denied, Peter denied Jesus three times when the love was just Philel, but the tradition says that Peter died on a cross later, saying Jesus was the Lord because his love changed from Phil to Agape.
-
How beautiful that is! And that's Jesus telling him, I understand what you have to give me right now, but I'll help you to get there.
-
So agape is unconditional, it's sacrificial.
-
Is when we go, who wants to go to Zimbabwe?
-
I don't want to go.
-
I want to stay here, AC family.
-
Yeah.
-
Do you know why do you go?
-
You go out of love.
-
It's sacrificial.
-
Agape.
-
Um, I think we all need to grow in that area.
-
Yeah.
-
And I think that's a even a great segue.
-
And just to just to make sure I'm understanding, Sam, over there, you're basically saying, how do how is it how do I love difficult people to love type thing?
-
Yeah.
-
So it's kind of it's a little bit of what I talked about on in the first um Sunday of the series, uh, the progressive part of sanctification.
-
You know, there's the positional part where we're we're sanctified in that moment, but the progressive part is when the Spirit of Jesus continually works on me throughout my process.
-
And I never arrive, right?
-
Like I never actually get to the point where like, okay, I'm as good as I'm gonna get.
-
Like there's there's always more.
-
And I even have a belief that, you know, I used to have this thing as a kid where I thought, like, well, once I'm in heaven, then I'll just be totally perfect and have everything for I I think that eternity is actually spent continuing to be sanctified and continually to know, know God on on a deeper level as well.
-
So, but I say all that to say that it goes back to even what we were talking about with the law, like Jesus not only fulfills it, but he also he also almost one-ups it.
-
And I think you even typed this out in your response to that person who asked the question, like, you've heard it said this.
-
Yes, but I actually want you to do this, you know.
-
So, or he talks about um, you know, if someone, if someone asks uh for your tunic, give him your cloak, as well, you know what I mean.
-
He's asking you to go above and beyond.
-
Um, and so the reason I say all that is I know how difficult that I am to love, and so I try to think back to that.
-
And whenever I'm having difficulty loving someone who's difficult, I remember that um that God sent his son for me while I was still a sinner, Christ died for me, right?
-
And so I always I always try and think back to the fact that that God displayed this first and foremost, and for me to to bear his image requires me to do that, but knowing that my journey isn't over yet and I still am progressing in my sanctification process, so having love and grace for myself when I kind of mess up on that.
-
Does that make sense, Sam?
-
Does that help you at all?
-
No?
-
Okay.
-
I'm just kidding.
-
What you got?
-
Okay, so I think a majority of us in the room, I would hope.
-
Um, I would hope because that way you guys understand what I'm saying.
-
Yeah.
-
Um, we've all like felt that conviction of like, man, I have not been spending enough time in in scripture.
-
Or I I really feel like God is calling me to grow.
-
Um as somebody who is very feeling-based, I think lately God has been challenging me in spiritual maturity that he won't always allow me to have that feeling.
-
And so I'm going through a time right now where I don't feel convicted for not being close.
-
I don't feel this urge to like read scripture and get closer, but I know I know that I'm not close.
-
I know that I'm not doing what I need to do and what I want to do.
-
Okay.
-
So how do you deal with that?
-
I don't know.
-
I uh the only thing I I think I can share that I don't think it will be helpful, but hopefully brings you a little bit of peace, is I feel the same way.
-
Um sometimes I just feel like, oh my gosh, you know what?
-
And and I am in this season right now.
-
I'm so hungry.
-
Um I'm I'm ready to, you know, I want to fast, I wanna read my Bible, I want to and sometimes it requires it's almost like seasons that it it requires it doesn't require discipline from me.
-
It's more like this is exactly what I want to do.
-
I don't I don't want to spend two hours on Netflix, I want to spend two hours with God.
-
That's not the majority of my days, friend.
-
The majority of my days it's exercising discipline.
-
I don't want to read, but I understand it's the best for me.
-
Sometimes I don't know, I don't want to pray, sometimes I don't even know how.
-
And sometimes my prayer is just very quick quiet, but I'm still exercising my discipline.
-
Um so I don't have I unfortunately I don't have an answer for you because I think we all go go through phases.
-
I something that I wish well or let's put that way, something that I pray a lot is God, I would love to be more disciplined.
-
Like Nate is, for example.
-
I am I am not this is I am disciplined, you know, to go watch League of Legends, absolutely.
-
Now, to go to to the gym, oh my gosh.
-
So something I've been doing lately, I shared that with uh Rachel, and she told me that what what did you tell me?
-
Did you say that Well you said you were going to the gym, and whenever you think about going to the gym, you just do it.
-
Exactly.
-
I'm not I'm not giving myself any space to question what I need to do.
-
I don't know if it will last because again I have no discipline, but what I'm doing is okay, I need to go to the gym.
-
I don't I don't stay there wondering.
-
I just get up and go.
-
So whenever I think Bible, it's it will be right now.
-
Um that's a practical thing I do.
-
But yeah, I every time I pray for myself, God, I need to be more disciplined, I will include you in that prayer too.
-
So God will make us both more disciplined.
-
Like Nate.
-
You don't need to pray for that.
-
Come on, dude.
-
Your prayer should be, God, whatever I have, share with some of the best advice I ever got on that was start to start with five minutes.
-
Because I was I was in a pla I grew up in church, I've been around it my whole life, but I never really had those the core spiritual disciplines, Bible, prayer, silence, and solitude.
-
And some a friend of mine just encouraged me, like, hey, tomorrow start five minutes.
-
And eventually that hunger, and you're like, uh five minutes wasn't enough.
-
Ten minutes wasn't enough, thirty minutes wasn't enough, an hour wasn't enough, you know.
-
And a lot of times we want to I think it's culturally too.
-
We we want to get in the gym and lose 30 pounds tomorrow.
-
When in reality it took you 14 years to get yourself into this shape, why would you think it's gonna take you 30 days to to get out of it or to get stronger?
-
So I think it it applies spiritually as well, like and just just see what God does in your own life too, and uh also when our routines and rhythms change, whether it be through you know, jobs, marriage, kids, or whatever.
-
I had a a mentor tell me just a couple weeks ago, because I was sharing something similar with her, and she was like, Why don't you start looking for the moments with God that aren't necessarily what you would classify as a spiritual discipline?
-
So that's great.
-
When you're interacting with your son, start thinking about the interaction that, like we were talking about earlier, that the father has with you, and just start communing with him even in those moments as well.
-
That's amazing.
-
I think a lot of times we um we compartmentalize and we kind of put labels on this.
-
Now we can we can abuse that and go, well, this is my time with God, you know.
-
So we have to be careful that we're inviting the spirit into every aspect of it.
-
But again, start with five, and and again, I I have a tendency to look at God and go, you're not doing enough, like God's pointing his finger at me when all he's trying to do is just invite me in absolute closer to him, anyways.
-
Everything we do is a spiritual.
-
Yeah, if it's spending three hours in prayer or eating pizza, a lazy moon, it's a spiritual if you are spiritual, right?
-
Yeah, so I I agree with that a hundred percent.
-
Yeah, I think what what you just said, like taking the risk of considering you know, I'm uh I am on YouTube for three hours, and then if somebody asks, I would just say I'm just spending time with the Lord.
-
You are not, yeah, because even though what you're doing is a spiritual, because you are in a spiritual being, I think there is an invitation for God telling you, can can we have a one-on-one?
-
For sure.
-
And and I couldn't agree with you more.
-
Sometimes we have this impression, oh, so I need to read five chapters every day.
-
I need, and then sometimes what you need is just meditate in one verse that will change your life forever.
-
Yeah, that happens with me a lot.
-
Sometimes I sit down and I read 30 chapters, and sometimes I sit down thinking I'm gonna read 10, and I get stuck in one verse and I stay there for days because God is still so there is no rules, friends.
-
Let's not allow religion to dictate what we need to do to invest in our relationship with God.
-
Let's allow Jesus to tell us what to do and invite us to moments like this.
-
Our new book that we have with our Bibles, too.
-
If anybody wants it, I don't know if we have any here at the office, but on Sunday, if you want it, it talks a lot about this relationship aspect with Jesus and what it what it looks like to to walk with him as opposed to try and work for him or do things for him, you know.
-
So value ready?
-
Okay.
-
Is that the last one?
-
What last question?
-
Or you feel we we still have time?
-
Uh it depends on how this goes.
-
So, Vita, you had mentioned earlier that something that needed to be done, I guess here in America specifically, was like activating personally with the Holy Spirit.
-
What are some practical steps or like things to do to start that or to maybe you've like had that, but you kind of feel like you've lost it and kind of reigniting that again?
-
Yeah.
-
Val, I I I'll I'll just say something very simple, and I think I touch on that.
-
I think the very first thing is erasing this stigma that having a relationship with the Holy Spirit means having an experience, a supernatural experience with the Holy Spirit.
-
So if I don't pray in tongues, if I don't shake, if I don't I'm not having you know, yeah, I think having having having the Holy Spirit more involved in the aspects of your life, I think it's great.
-
I think it's way easier for us to call a friend when we don't know what to do than stop one second and ask the Holy Spirit, can you please guide me here?
-
So I think using and abusing of this privilege is something that sometimes we just forget to do.
-
And I think we could we could be very honest right now and ask ourselves, when was the last time you just asked the Holy Spirit, hey, I don't know what to do right now.
-
I don't know how to deal with Andrew, I don't know how to answer, I don't know how to my when I say A, my wife understands Z.
-
I don't know how to fix this.
-
Holy Spirit, would you mind helping me?
-
I think it's so much easier for us to go to the counselor, go to the therapy, buy a new journal, write our thoughts, listen to a podcast, buy a new book, do whatever.
-
And I'm not saying we need to stop doing those things.
-
I think what I'm saying is there is the Holy Spirit is available for us to ask questions and wait for him to lead us.
-
And sometimes we just go, no, I don't need you because I have my therapy, my my therapist.
-
Keep your therapist, but but invite the Holy Spirit to be part of your of your life.
-
And big and this is the second thing, Val.
-
I'm under the impression that we use the Holy Spirit almost like a golden card, only when it's very important decisions.
-
Should I move to Minnesota or stay in South Dakota?
-
Oh, let's pray so the Holy Spirit.
-
Is there is there such a thing as South Dakota?
-
Okay.
-
Yes, there is.
-
Oh, okay.
-
I'm gonna pray for the Holy Spirit so he can guide me.
-
Should I marry this girl, Joanne, or should I marry Elizabeth?
-
Oh, I'm gonna pray so the Holy Spirit can should I go to FSU or should I go to UF?
-
And then we go, oh, I need the Holy Spirit.
-
But for the details in our lives, we are under the impression we don't need him.
-
We are full, we need him for everything, for everything.
-
100% dependent.
-
I wish just for one second God could reveal to us how many times the Holy Spirit is working us, through us, around us, and we have no idea how would be life if he's not present, and sometimes we just leave ignoring that he is the helper.
-
The helper.
-
I don't know about you, but I need help in lots of areas.
-
So if he's the helper and I need help, for me he sounds like a neat match right there.
-
Yeah.
-
For me, a lot of times it's just a personally, it's a decluttering, an opportunity to declutter my life in order to make I have no idea what that means.
-
Uh yeah, to make room for him.
-
You know, because I'm filled with so many other things.
-
Absolutely, yeah.
-
Even if they're, you know, spiritual things, right?
-
I mean, at the end of the day, um, you know, we have to make room for it, right?
-
And so a lot of times I'm I'm so full or bogged down or overloaded with stuff that I don't even have room for him.
-
You're right.
-
And and to wrap this up, something that might shock you, I've been in full-time ministry for 18 years now, and I think Nate, Lindsay, Rachel, they will agree to what I'm going to say.
-
Sometimes we need to make room for the Holy Spirit, and sometimes the ministry is taking the majority of the room, and the Holy Spirit is just outside thinking, I would love to jump in, but you don't let me.
-
Because you're just busy with ministry, you're just busy with the next lesson we'll teach, we're just busy with the next set list, we're just busy with the next slide we're gonna put up, we're just busy with the next mission strip, and they are all amazing, and we need to be thinking about that.
-
But there we need also to put a stop on a ministry to make room for the Holy Spirit, and then He will lead us on how to do ministry.
-
Does that make sense?
-
Yeah, that's a challenge for me.
-
I feel sometimes God slap me, slap me in my face saying, I thought you were your God, but apparently is the ministry your God.
-
And then I need to repent and go, Oh my gosh, yes.
-
Yes, yeah, you need to he needs to be the center, absolutely.
-
I'll make room for the rest, but for him it needs to be priority.
-
We got time for one more if anybody's got one more.
-
Go ahead, Reese.
-
Okay.
-
Serena too, my daughter.
-
She's being asking a lot a lot lots of questions about that.
-
Becoming okay.
-
I understand how it like become okay with that reality.
-
How do I let that like live my life?
-
And accept that like an object, but also not like take over the object.
-
Fear.
-
Like how do we do that?
-
Fear of dying or fear of all of it.
-
All of it.
-
Losing myself.
-
Losing my loved ones, losing my family, my friends, you know, losing my future kids, like things like that.
-
Like how do we do that?
-
Yeah.
-
Um, just for the for the podcast sake, Reese is asking about um she's been thinking a lot about death recently and how to how to how to almost justify that, right?
-
And how to even how to approach it and how how there's so much fear involved with it, um, specifically when we're losing loved ones, family members, and even losing our own life.
-
Did I kind of uh summarize that well?
-
I think my initial reaction is um to not be okay with it because it's not how we're not designed to die.
-
Yeah, I agree with that.
-
Um as eternal beings or beings that are gonna live on, it doesn't register with us, no matter and you can put Bible band-aids and scripture platitudes on it all day long, but it's not built into us to to for death.
-
Like it's a it's a part of the curse of sin, and it will never, I don't think it will ever click or justify or will ever come to you know, sometimes you hear people say that they're at peace with the fact that maybe someone who's a little bit older on in life, they're at peace or they want to go.
-
You may hear that, but that's just a that's just due to suffering, right?
-
Or that's due to to being tired and not necessarily the fact of I want to lose my life.
-
And so I think that's my initial reaction into it, because then the promise of the gospel is to be resurrected, you know, just like Christ was.
-
And I even think we see Jesus when he interacts with death, he's very upset by it.
-
Yeah, um, and so that's my that's my first thought on it.
-
I think that's great.
-
I I agree with that 100%.
-
I think you are not alone, Reese.
-
Yeah, I think I think at least in two people who thought the same thing, one being Jesus, one being Paul, when Jesus is just saying, if it's possible, praying to God, I don't want to face this.
-
Um, because this concept of dying is not natural for us.
-
Paul said saying, Well, one day I'm gonna go be with Christ, which would be great, but right now I would love to be with you guys.
-
And and um, so this concept of dying, it's not it's not easy for us uh to digest.
-
So I don't know how we how we make peace with it inside of us.
-
What I I was having this conversation with Serena last night at 1 a.m.
-
when we were driving home, and um she was just asking me, so you are going to die one day, and then I said yes, and and and then she said, uh, and I will die one day, yes.
-
And then she and then she goes, and and then then we're going to heaven.
-
I said, I guess we're working for it, and then she and then she said, and and how many days we're gonna stay there?
-
Because a concept that it's weird for us is death, but eternity is a weird concept too, right?
-
And then I told her, because I I was like, okay, this will this will be mind-blowing to her because it is to me, and then I said, We're gonna be there forever, and then she started crying, and then she was like, forever, and I was like, Yeah, and then she said, but forever is a lot, and then I said, Yes, and then she said, 'Well, I don't want to die, but I don't want to live there forever.
-
How confusing this is, right?' And and I I don't think she's alone, no, not at all, right?
-
All of us, yeah.
-
So I don't, unfortunately, I don't think I have something to help you with that.
-
The only thing that brings peace to my heart is one day I'll be with my Lord, and He's the person I love the most.
-
And I have so many questions.
-
I can't wait to have an after the message with Jesus, Paul, Abraham, Moses, and let's just invite Habakkuk, just and and and having so many questions.
-
I have so many questions for then.
-
And so when I think about dying, the only part that brings me peace is thinking, okay, one day I'll be with my Lord, and that will be amazing.
-
And two seconds later, I think, but what about Serena?
-
What about Juliana?
-
What about Paula that will cry for 30 days, hopefully?
-
Uh so I don't know, friend.
-
Yeah, I think we always struggle with this.
-
Um, if you ask me right now, do you love Jesus absolutely?
-
Do you want to die and be with him?
-
No way.
-
No way.
-
So, how do we put the same two feelings in the same equation?
-
I think it I think it's impossible.
-
Now, what I will tell you is the Bible tells us that we were not made to live under fear.
-
So, even though I think we all understand that thinking about dying is not common for us, it's not natural for us, leaving thinking or living out of fear of dying, it's something that God doesn't want us to do or to, you know, God doesn't want us to leave by fear of something that uh is going to happen.
-
For Neagrand Sixes, that's a that's a problem.
-
They are they have fears every day, but usually I try not, and this is a lazy answer, but usually I try not to think about it.
-
I try to instead of thinking of not dying, I just try to think of live.
-
And Lindsay told me something at the beginning of the year.
-
We we had lunch at uh Black Bean, which by the way, I went there yesterday and the prices increased.
-
Oh geez, bro.
-
And then Lindsay, and hopefully it's fine.
-
Lindsay, I'm sharing this, but she told me that a child a challenge or something that she wants to practice this year is trying to find happiness or or or uh delight in the moments she's in.
-
And then sometimes I'm just helping Serena with the bell puzzle, and I am thinking I can't stand it anymore.
-
We we we've done this together 300 times already.
-
But at the same time, if I recognize that this is a moment of life right there, it's a moment I can invest in her, it's a moment that I can tell her how amazing Belle is, I guess.
-
It's a moment that I can just be with her laughing.
-
So instead of thinking of death, why I don't spend time thinking of life, enjoying the moments I'm in right now.
-
Um like this moment, for example.
-
Yeah, this will pass in 30 years.
-
We'll look back and we'll go.
-
It was a great night.
-
It was just a moment of life for myself.
-
We're gonna leave death with God one day, but right now I just want to be focused on leaving.
-
Yeah, yeah.
-
And I think that's it.
-
Yeah.
-
And time too, just the even the idea, the construct of time and space, like we won't I don't really think we'll have the same reaction to it in ret in eternity.
-
I mean, absolutely.
-
Yeah, everything will change.
-
We won't interact with time like we do now, you know.
-
A thousand years is like a day, a day is like a thousand years, so it'll it'll be way different.
-
Everything will be amazing.
-
Yeah.
-
I asked my uncle one time, I said, Hey man, do you think uh you think we'll be able to spend one-on-one time uh with Jesus uh when we when we get to heaven?
-
And he he said, I'm betting my life on it.
-
And to me, Bro, but I every time I think about that and thinking about God being everywhere, I don't know what system they will have because I can imagine me walking with Jesus towards a waterfall, yeah, and you coming back with Jesus from the waterfall.
-
Yeah, right?
-
The apostle will take care of that.
-
The apostle, yeah.
-
You'll be in there like, ah, Jesus has got a 3:30 today.
-
It's worth it.
-
Hey Courtney, you have a Skype with Jesus at 30.
-
It won't be like that.
-
Do you want to do virtual or in person?
-
Guys, thank you so much.
-
Let's give it up for everybody in here.
-
Uh obviously the the questions don't end.
-
This is a lifelong journey, and we're here to to walk alongside you in every area.
-
And whether it's you know, advice on next steps or comfort in moments of distress, whatever it may be, just let us know.
-
And then uh yeah, we hope to share this as well with the rest of our church next week when we post it online.
-
So feel free to share that with them.
-
But for after the message live, it's a wrap.
-
Yeah, well, just one disclaimer okay.
-
We we don't know everything.
-
We said that we share with you our personal experiences, the way we read and interpret our Bibles, and we just hope that was a blessing for you.
-
Yeah, but this is not a substitute for you to seek the Holy Spirit, read your Bible, and if you have questions or if you agree or don't agree, let us know.
-
And you have your Bible, we have ours, and we just come to a common ground together.
-
Amen.
-
Good.
-
Thank you, Vinny.
-
Appreciate you, man.
-
Thank you, Nate.
-
Awesome.
