Thank you so much for that kind and warm both uh metaphoric and literally welcome.

Uh so good to be with uh my family here in Orlando.

If we haven't met before, hey, uh my name is Dan Lee Ann.

I would love to give you a hug or a high five.

Love to hear a little bit about your story a little bit later on.

If you're a little confused right now, let me explain.

Uh my name is Dan Lee Ann.

I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia.

That's the reason I sound this way.

Uh my mother and father are Chinese, that's the reason I look this way.

Uh my soul is actually Puerto Rican, that's the reason I dress this way.

But nine years ago, my family and I moved to Anderson, South Carolina.

Uh that's the reason uh I have type 2 diabetes.

I drive a I really actually do have type 2 diabetes.

Uh drive a truck, take college football way too seriously, and I get to serve at a great church called New Spring Church where I am a teaching pastor, but I also get to travel around this blue rock God made talking about Jesus.

I've done that for the best part of 30 years now, and uh as you travel around, you get to come across uh especially beautiful things and beautiful people.

And I think it was way back in 2014.

Uh I'm trying to, I'm gonna check my I'm gonna go back to my photo album and find out.

When I first met uh pastors Keith and Megan uh in Jacksonville, Florida, I was, and uh, and we just connected.

And uh you have a great pastor, you have someone who loves people, teaches the gospel, um, has a heart to see uh the kingdom come here in this region, and I can't help but sense that you are on the precipice of something beautiful and new.

Even as I was worshiping God in song sitting there, I couldn't help but sense that the prayers you've prayed, the songs you've sung, the steps of faith you've taken have all been good seed that you all have planted into the ground, and you will see a day where your family, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers, the people you study with, people we haven't seen for a long time, will fill the chairs around you.

And it might be in this building, it might be in another building, but your family and your friends are going to be impacted in the most beautiful, powerful, and positive way because of celebration church.

Can someone say a good amen to that?

Come on, you can clap so good.

Um, I've also got uh a word stirring for the second service.

So listen to this one.

There might be a different message uh coming to you in the second service.

Uh, and as I minister this morning, I would want to challenge you uh to maybe ask the Holy Spirit is there someone in your life who you know who may need a healing or a breakthrough in the area of anxiety?

I I'm just believing that at some point today, Holy Spirit is going to minister a powerful gift of freedom from anxiety.

Okay, so that's for the second service.

Uh, but in this service, we're gonna talk about time.

Life is short, man.

Even just talking to Pastor the night before, trying to recount the steps to work out when we first connected.

Either way, we're talking in decades now.

Time flies, life is short.

You get no replay, there are no guarantees.

You get this moment would you make the most of your time?

It is indeed the most precious resource that God affords to man.

It is not the money in your bank or the stocks that are appreciating, it's not the gold in your vault.

It is the time you are given to do something unto the glory of God that resonates for all eternity.

You get these minutes, they're gone.

They never return.

This indeed is a precious resource.

Make the most of your time.

I've been thinking so much about time lately because I got old this year.

I turned 50 in February gone by.

I know I don't look 50, but you know how they say black doesn't crack?

Well, Asian don't raise in, you know what I'm saying?

And I'm I'm aging well, but trust me.

Any MRI of my knees will show a man who's done 50 laps of the sun.

Everything about my life is letting me know that I've got old, old.

Every morning I wake up, I'm reminded that I'm old, old.

Because I'm at that age where I'm waking up with injuries I didn't go to sleep with.

Come on, any men here in the room, remember that feeling you lay in bed at night, feeling good about yourself?

You didn't hurt anything at the gym, you didn't pop anything on the run.

You wake up to find that you tore a hamstring, had a vigorous dream, and now you're hobbling around all day long.

I'm old old.

I'm making those noises every time I bend over and pick something up and stand up again.

Come on, any man here with me, you know that feeling.

There are times I'm dropping something on the ground.

I don't even want to bend over to pick it up.

I ask myself the question: do I really need that thing?

Sometimes I'm just kicking along the road until someone picks it up for me.

I'm that old, I don't like even bending over anymore.

I'm old, I got a 22-year-old daughter.

And she got married two months ago.

Oh my woman.

No, I don't clap.

It was terrible.

It's like the movie taken and unfolded before my eyes, and somehow I got left with a check.

It feels like yesterday that I was a young, sprightly, 30-something, running around this blue rock God made, talking about Jesus first meeting, the celebration family here in Orlando, and I blinked twice and I took two breaths, and here I am with wrinkles on my face, less hair on my head, more pain in my body, knowing that I have less days ahead of me than behind me.

Life is short.

Time flies.

What are you doing with your time?

I've been thinking so much about time lately, and the Bible makes it clear you should too.

Multiple times in the Psalms, the psalmist would make this reflection.

Oh God, grant us a heart of wisdom so that we may number our days, understanding how limited life is.

It is but a breath that is here in a moment and gone the next.

We have no say in the first breath.

We have no say in the last.

You get an opportunity in that little space in between.

Make the most of your time.

It's not just for the old people in the room who are nodding their heads about those painful knees, it's for the young people in the room as well.

Looking at me all smug and arrogant, like you have years ahead of you.

But, ma'am, can I just warn you?

Yesterday I was you, and tomorrow you'll be me.

For all of us, we are knit together by this common thread.

We are given this precious gift called life from the hand and the breath of God.

What will you do with these fleeting moments?

Make the most of your time.

So here's the question okay, big Asian guy who obviously does a lot of upper body work in the gym but neglects his legs.

How?

You're right.

Time has flown by.

It feels like it's going quicker than ever.

It's like someone in heaven bumped the fast forward button.

Because it feels like yesterday we were celebrating Happy New Year and tomorrow is September.

I I I some people recognize that even in the last six, seven years, that that we've been stuck in some kind of weird time continuum where the days are hurtling past and we don't know where we're really going and if we're really achieving what God has put us on earth to us.

There's so many people who are wrestling with the same thing that I wrestle with in my soul, asking the question, okay, cool.

You're right.

Life is short.

Time does fly.

No replays, no guarantees.

How do we make the most of our time?

Well, the good news is every time you have a question, you can go to the Bible.

The Bible isn't an archaic piece of literature from back in the day.

The Bible is a living, breathing conversation that God wants to have with you every day.

And as I have wrestled lately with this idea of the brevity of life and the short amount of time I have left, I have felt such consolation and such conviction as the Bible challenges me to reorientate my life towards what really matters for eternity.

This is how you make the most of your time.

If you have your Bibles, would you go with me to the book of 2 Timothy chapter 4?

And if you have just joined in on this faith journey with these Jesus people around you, you may not understand that a lot of the New Testament was written by a man filled with the Holy Spirit, inspired by the Holy Spirit named Paul.

And he wrote a lot of the instructions that we lean into regarding how to do church, how to build church, how to preach the gospel, Paul's life magnified King Jesus.

And we have leant into a lot of his writing in the New Testament.

But what's fascinating about this text in 2 Timothy is that this most scholars believe was Paul's farewell letter.

This was his final goodbye.

This wasn't written to a church or a region trying to give instruction on how to build the kingdom of God.

This was a spiritual father saying goodbye to a spiritual son.

His breaths were limited.

He understood that his time was near.

The apostle Paul says, For I'm already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near.

I fought the good fight.

I have finished the race.

And I have kept the faith.

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day.

And not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

There were other times where the Apostle Paul would talk about himself as a preacher of the gospel, an apostle, albeit the least of apostles, a co-heir with Christ, a co-laborer in the kingdom.

But here in this context, he calls himself a drink offering that was poured out, a splash of wine on the altar.

Here one moment evaporated the next.

He knew that the time for his departure was near.

He has put off boarding this plane for as long as possible.

The final boarding call is beaming on that LCD screen, and he had to take his seat.

But there is a tone of satisfaction and contentment in his soul because of the way that he spent his time, and that would also turn into a challenge and a poking into the chest of his spiritual son Timothy, and by default, us as well, to make the most of ours as well.

And this is what Paul did with his time.

He fought the good fight, he ran his race, and he kept the faith.

If you're writing down notes, you can pull out your leather-bound journals and your pens right now and scribble a few things down.

I'm not saying that you need to take notes to get to heaven.

I'm just saying, why take a chance?

You know, might say get to the end, might be your open book quiz, might be some extra credit.

That's not true.

That's not don't write, please, ma'am, don't write.

That's heresy.

That's so bad.

Sorry.

I've got nothing for you.

For the rest of your friends, for the rest of our time together.

Because you mess up our group text with your green bubble energy.

It's very invasive, very presumptuous.

You know what I'm saying?

We all on the same page.

We're all making plans.

It's in cooling blue.

There's a flow, there's a rhythm, boop, boop, boop, and shazam, the whole thing gets hijacked because Homie over here couldn't fork out enough money for a real device.

Found himself a little discount at the Verizon at the strip mall, walking around with a Samsung.

Messing around.

You can write some stuff down too, Sean.

This is how you answer that question.

Starting in this moment.

Starting this week.

This is how we rest in our soul knowing that we have redeemed our time.

First and foremost, we ask the question Have I fought the good fight?

Fight the good fight.

Now when you look at that phrase, what what sticks out to you is the word good.

The assumption is that you're gonna fight, but not every fight that you fight is necessarily a good fight.

I know you're gonna fight, because you all are Americans.

You're a Floridian American.

Man, I've gotten to this crazy little rabbit hole in YouTube of watching like body cams and people getting arrested at airports.

Just, you know, entitled passenger, you know, that it's always one of those things.

I'm telling you, 70% is at FLL, at Palm Beach, and there's always something that'll let MCO.

I know you're gonna fight.

The question is, what kind of fight is your life going to be engaged in?

What are you fighting for?

Who are you fighting with, and what are you potentially gonna win if you win the fight?

These are really good questions to ask.

Because you're gonna fight, you're Americans.

That's the reason you all have the most combatitive national anthem on planet Earth.

Think about it.

I'm from Australia.

Our national anthem is literally about a beach.

Australians, let us all rejoice, for we are young and free.

It's all about um we have wealth in our soil, and we get return for our toil, and our whole land is GERT or surrounded by sea.

It's literally about a beach.

Then Australian national anthem is yo, we got a beach, grab a coconut, chill out.

Not America.

You all got bombs and guns and flares, and there's a guy in a jail somewhere looking through a window, there's a star spangled banner, boys don't let it touch the ground.

You know what I'm saying?

And I love it.

I love the combatitive energy in America.

That's the reason we moved here, and by the grace of God, we want to stay here because this is a country set up in such a way it gives you the freedom to fight for a better future for you and for your family.

As you define it, you get to fight for it.

Now I know that there are issues and there are problems, there's no perfect society or culture, but really, comparative to the rest of the world, America is very unique in the sense where we are encouraged to fight for something that is important to us, and we have the carrot dangled in front of us saying, if you fight long enough and hard enough, and if you get lucky enough, you might actually win what you are fighting for.

So we're living in a country which actually encourages that combatitive fighting energy, and I'm down for it.

The only question is, what are you fighting for?

Who are you fighting with?

And if you actually win what your life is fighting for, is that something you will feel comfortable standing before Jesus one day showing off?

We all fight.

Your Facebook proves it, your social media proves it, your content consumption proves it.

We all love to fight, but what are you fighting for?

I have committed the rest of my life.

I'm 50 right now, um I eat pretty well.

Um I I think I'm gonna squeeze another 30 out of this deal.

If God gives me 30 by his grace, and if it's less or if it's more, I want the I want the rest of my life to be connected to a fight that my King Jesus fought and led for himself.

In fact, I've made a rule right now: if Jesus didn't bleed for it, I ain't gonna bleed for it.

So I'm not gonna fight for a particular point of view if it doesn't bring people into the kingdom of God.

I'm gonna allow the people in my life to see the world differently.

But I will fight over your understanding that you have an eternal soul, that you're loved by God, and you have to respond to Jesus Christ at some point.

Just make a good decision to make that response today before you don't get a choice.

I've made it a point that I've stopped fighting for the approval of man so I can flex on some kind of social media platform so people that I don't know and I don't care about can think that I'm kind of cool.

I'm gonna spend my money, invest my resources, pour out my time to make more of my friend Jesus, and to make sure that this church that he said he's returning for is more beautiful and is bigger and is brighter than it is today.

That's what I might I want my life fire to be about that.

And that's the reason this gathering right now is so especially beautiful.

Because there were a million other things you could be doing in this part of Florida at nine o'clock on a Sunday morning, but you fought every urge just to stay in bed and catch it online later.

And you made your way out, you got yourself dressed, you got your kids dressed, you got your husband dressed, and you got here to church.

Come on, I know the real Jesus lovers are here at this service.

I'm just gonna encourage you to let that grow in intensity into every part of your life, and you just make sure that when you find yourself one day truly evaluating what your life was about, that it would tell the story that you saw what Jesus came to achieve, and you focused your life, you fixated your life on achieving that same goal.

News flash Jesus is not gonna be talking about your stock portfolio one day.

He will not be talking about your follow account, he will not be talking about that time he went viral.

He will not be talking about how many houses you own, the cars that you drove, the vacations that you went on.

He will not care.

But did you fight?

Come on, the good fight.

The second thing I want my life to be about is I want to run my race.

I want my life to be about a kingdom fight, a gospel fight, an advancing the Church of Jesus fight, and I want to run my right race.

He said, I finished the race.

I ran my race and I finished my race.

Do you know that God has a race for you to run?

Get your mind around that.

Hebrews chapter 12 tells us that Jesus Himself marked out a race for each and every single one of us to run.

What a mind-blowing, breathtaking, skin-tingling concept that the same hands that flung stars into space took time to scratch out a deliberate race for us to run.

How dare we not run it?

How dare we get crippled by comparison and competition in the light of what everyone else is doing and not engage in our race daily?

You have a race marked out for you to run.

How dare we not run it with passion and vigor and energy?

How dare we not complete it?

My son is 20 right now, and uh, but we moved here when he was 11 years old.

So he's technically the most American out of all of us.

He has spent nearly half of his life in the United States of America.

He eats the most fried food for breakfast.

He played every kind of sport in middle school and high school because we kept getting asked when we first moved here.

What sport does he play?

What sport does he play?

We thought it was a part of our immigration agreement.

So we just made him play every sport.

So he played some football, he played some basketball, ran a season across country, and ran a season a track.

Anyone run track here before?

Anyone done track?

Oh my, I'm telling you now.

My son, he joined the track team.

He's uh my wife is taller, so he's taller, and and uh and they put him in the 400-meter hurdles.

Horrible event.

Kid has never run 400 meters in his life, kid has never seen a hurdle in his life.

But they said, we're putting you into this 400 meters hurdle.

So we're going along on the first track meet.

I'm really nervous for Josiah because again, never seen a hurdle, never run a full lap.

But I thought to myself, hey, a summer of training, he he might have discovered something.

Maybe this coach identified something in him that I've missed the whole time.

Maybe this is some kind of supernatural skill that he has that that needed to be unleashed by the belief of an older gentleman, and this might he might be amazing at this.

I'm starting to get hyped in my heart.

So I get along there, I'm sitting in the stands there at T.L.

Hannah High at in Anderson, South Carolina, and before I know it, his event is called up.

Bang! The starter's gun goes off.

And my son takes off as fast as he can.

No form, no efficiency.

He's leaping over these giant hurdles, but after 100 meters, my son is winning.

And I'm going, wow, this is a freakish skill that we have now unearthed.

This is gonna be D1 college offers for sure.

I'm like Googling, where is the summer 2028 Olympic?

I'm like, kind of, this is amazing! But then by the 200-meter mark, he was starting to slow down.

Uh his lack of form had emptied his gas tank.

And by that 300-meter mark, he didn't even have the strength anymore to jump over the hurdles.

He was doing this.

Boom, he was kicking them.

By the last straight, the last 100 meters, he didn't have the strength to lift his leg to kick over the hurdles, he was doing this.

Now I don't know who won that race.

I'm pretty sure I made the kid who came last in the race.

But I am 100% sure because there's a video of on my phone.

That there was a Chinese guy with an Australian accent on his feet in the stands, screaming at the top of his lungs, I love you, buddy! I'm so proud of you, change.

Keep on going, buddy! Stay the lane! Just finish the race, buddy! Now, if I would do that for my son, how much more does your perfect, loving Heavenly Father boom in your direction?

I made you, I know you, I've got a race for you to run.

Come on, run that race.

I don't know, sometimes we trip and we scrape our knee.

And I know we get gassed.

And I know it's easy, especially in this day and age, with social media to see how impressive everyone else's form seems.

But I was only looking at one kid.

My kid.

And our father in heaven looks at his kid.

You're his kid.

So let that just build, come on, a sense of joy and expectation and faith in your heart.

That as a people of God, every day we get a decision to make.

So let our effort and our energy, our resources and our experience be poured towards fighting for the things that Jesus bled for.

People far away from God and this church that He's returning for.

And we get to run our race.

The third and the last thing I want to do with my time is I want to keep the faith.

Now, when you see the word keep the faith, that word keep jumps out.

Because the strong insinuation is when I'm asking you to keep something for me is that you can misplace it, you can mistreat it, you can lose it, you can let someone steal it, you can devalue it.

But he's saying no, no, no, please, please, please, whatever you do, keep the faith.

That mountain moving, sea splitting, dead man rising, sick, healing, best is yet to come, the clouds are gonna break, the sun will shine again, kind of faith.

Keep that kind of faith.

I know that in my journey I've seen the ebbs and the flows.

I came to Christ when I was 17 years old.

I was a freshman in college, and I was chasing a pretty blonde girl who looked great in jeans, and we should hang out on the weekend.

She goes, Well, I go to church.

I said, Well, I go to church too.

I love church.

The praying and all that.

I love it.

So this greasy, long-haired, then Asian guy shows up at Clayton Church of Christ, and I'm trying to hang out with this girl named Krista.

She would become my wife four years later, but I would hang out here and I'm there, and and uh, and something happened to me because I'm in this church, and I felt something I had never felt before.

And it was it was hope.

And it was peace.

And then I met Jesus by a lake, hanging out at this church, and a group of guys were going on a camping trip.

And the camping trip was code for the youth pastor taking a bunch of boys away to tell them about Jesus, and if they didn't accept Christ, they got left out on the camping trip.

But I met I met Jesus, and then I and I caught fire.

I was a madman, legitimately.

I was studying economics as my undergrad, and so I'm hanging out at this great school, and I bought myself.

Remember the old days?

Remember with the old people at remember the uh at Christian bookstores.

Remember Christian bookstores before?

You got no idea what a Christian bookstore is.

You just say it's Amazon and kind of his.

I'm saying you look young, man.

I went to the Christian bookstore in in my town and I bought the biggest cross that they had, and it was made out of nails, legit nine-inch nails crossed over welded together.

So I put this cross, I can't believe I stole it.

I went, I put, I put this cross on, and I would go to school every day.

And I just try to fight people in the most loving Jesus kind of way.

And I was faithful, I honored my dad, and uh I finished my undergrad, but on the day that I finished, um, I made an appointment at his office, and um he owned an accounting firm.

That's the reason I did economics, and and I remember making an appointment to go see him, and with a degree in hand, I asked him if he would fund my postgrad studies.

And at that point, he already seen my fire for Jesus, and I remember him telling me that if you came and worked for me, that this business would be mine in a couple of years' time.

And I don't know why he said this.

He says, You could finally get that Porsche 911 that you've always wanted if you come and work for me, and I like me a night, a nice Porsche 9-11.

I even even had the license plate in my head, it was gonna be mad CPA.

But I didn't care because I just wanted my life to be one that was marked by getting out of the boat and walking on water, water faith.

In so many of my 20s, as a young married guy, Christa and I would live that kind of life, that exhilarating faith kind of life.

But then you get comfortable.

And stepping out of the boat is not as attractive as staying on the couch.

Doing the bare minimum seems so much more feasible than surrendering all.

My tithe becomes what I can spare that week.

My service is based on the time of year it is and whether it's an encroaching on other social activities.

That's just a full confession.

And I'm here to testify to you that I'm grateful for the Spirit of God that has shaken me out of my slumber time and time again, and I have held onto by the grace of God onto this wild faith desire.

Keep the faith.

Don't let someone steal your faith and swap it out for a religious formula.

The boxes you check, the things that you do, so God will stay on your side.

No, keep the faith.

No, seriously, don't let faith be swapped out by fear.

So many people living by fear in this day.

Christian people should never be fearful.

Feeling fear, natural, but living fearful, not a child of God trait.

I hear it all the time as a past.

Dan, do you hear about what happened in the news?

Did you hear this?

Did you say this?

I was watching the news the other day, and then I yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Well, I've got some news for you as well.

It's called good news that my king is still on the throne, he's still on my side, he has never left.

But we all live so fearful nowadays.

Keep the faith.

Amen.

We will meet again, and God's getting ready to do a new thing here at Celebration Orlando.

And the Jesus lovers in this service are going to be leading the charge.

As you fight the good fight, run your race and keep the faith.

Can someone say a good amen to that?

As we wrap our time, I just want to do two simple things.

I want to pray for someone in the room who doesn't have an everyday relationship with Jesus.

That's all Christianity is.

It's not about rules or regulations, it's not about being a good person who gets his sins together.

It's not it's about the fact that God loves you so much that he sent his son Jesus to find you where you are and present to you a way forward.

A way that you couldn't make for yourself.

That's the reason over the last 36 minutes, some of you have felt this weird tapping at your heart's door.

Like God's trying to get in.

That tapping was God.

And I would love to give you the words to pray to open up that door.

Is that cool?

So with every eye closed but every heart open, if you heard God tapping at your heart's door and you simply want to say yes to Him, would you allow me to lead you in a prayer that heaven will hear?

And I promise you it changes everything.

With every eye closed but every heart open, you're saying, Dan, I heard that tap.

I want to say yes to Jesus today.

When I count to three, lift your hand where you are.

Are you ready?

One, two, three.

Just lift your hand where you are.

If you felt that knock today, wonderful.

So good.

I want you to pray this prayer out loud after me.

Let's pray out loud, all together.

Dear Jesus, I surrender my life to you.

Open my life to you.

I repent, I turn from my own way, I turn your way.

Now fill me with your spirit.

Help me live for your glory.

Amen.

Can you put your hands together for the people who lifted theirs?

So cool.

If you lifted your hand or if you prayed that prayer in a fresh and a new way, I would love to meet you.

I'm going to be hanging out by the connection tent, which is where connections happen.

That's why it's called the connections tent.

And I would love to meet you.

One last thing, with every eye open and every head raised, and everyone looking around in a judgmental manner.

I do this all the time because the Bible says God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

And there's nothing as humbling as saying, that's me with people watching.

I literally want to put Jesus into a situation this morning where he has to keep a promise for your life.

I want you to have an opportunity to with humility say, you know what?

I need to make more of my time.

That word was for me.

My life needs to be about the good fight, it has to be about running my race.

And I've exchanged my faith for a whole bunch of things.

I want to keep this mountain moving, soul-winning faith.

So with every eye open and every head raised and everyone looking around, if that word was for you today, would you lift your hand high in the sky right now?

Okay, so you're not alone.

Lift it.

Keep it up in the sky.

It's early in the day.

Your deodorant will hold.

Lord Jesus, we love you.

Father God, we exalt you.

Holy Spirit, we ask you, seal what you have started and help us be men and women who make the most of our time.

In Jesus' name.

And everyone said, Amen.

Come on, thank God for what He's done.

But specifically, if you um if you know someone in your life who wrestles with constant worry or an unshiftable weight of anxiety, I want to open up the scriptures and I want to bring something that God is stirring in my heart for the second service.
