  120. God

  121. what a glorious glorious truth we've

  122. just sung We just sung the Gospel of

  123. Jesus Christ he comes and he joins us

  124. it's pierced for us and then we get to

  125. sing his praise forever more amen amen

  126. you may be seated I am so thankful for

  127. you on this January morning lifting your

  128. voice in hearty praise to God we often

  129. say here in the life of Sheron Hills we

  130. want to pay attention to what we're

  131. singing We carefully select the songs

  132. that remind us of the gospel and I heard

  133. someone say just the other day um the

  134. people around me when they sing it's

  135. like they're singing sometimes to me

  136. because this person was kind of

  137. struggling and a little bit down and she

  138. said when uh the people around me are

  139. singing it helps me so sometimes we're

  140. singing to the Lord sometimes we're

  141. singing to each other and sometimes

  142. we're also singing to who ourselves

  143. right well praise the lord we welcome

  144. you my name is name is Andrew Coleman

  145. I'm one of the pastors here at Sheran

  146. Hills we welcome you here uh to worship

  147. with us some of you are here for the

  148. very first time and I would like to ask

  149. our home folks to welcome those who are

  150. here for the first time would you please

  151. welcome

  152. them one of the couples and families

  153. that is here for the first time is the

  154. chipwood family and so we welcome Paul

  155. chipwood president of our IMB and

  156. Michelle and their precious daughters um

  157. we are so thankful that they are with us

  158. and uh in just a little while Dr

  159. Chitwood is going to bring the message

  160. from God's word to us and uh we really

  161. look forward to that Marcy and I've had

  162. the privilege of just spending the last

  163. couple of days with them um we've been

  164. through um we caught some Snapper that

  165. was kind of fun we went through a storm

  166. with Michelle saying I think it's time

  167. to go back to the dock um so but it

  168. turned out to be pretty good so well I

  169. want to say also welcome home to Alex

  170. and uh Robin Pinto vidall where are they

  171. they're right here glad you're home guys

  172. we love

  173. you missed you um they are prolific

  174. having babies and all that good stuff so

  175. thankfully they look like Robin um but

  176. um anyways good good times um many of

  177. you helped um Friday night tear down all

  178. the elaborate Christmas decorations and

  179. thank you for coming and doing that and

  180. then you went out and set a bunch of

  181. trees on fire the fire department was

  182. here neighbors were calling it was

  183. exciting in fact I heard that neighbors

  184. came into the sports field just to hang

  185. out and we got to talk to a bunch of

  186. them so that's really cool you never

  187. know what um that will bring but I'm

  188. super thankful for that you know today

  189. we are going to celebrate the entry into

  190. heaven of one of the great Saints of

  191. Sheran Hills um Ted capella was a man

  192. who served in the life of our church for

  193. many years and uh taught the Bible uh in

  194. several different ways listen to this

  195. Ted capella when he retired um he said I

  196. want to do more and so he started just

  197. saying pastors who do you want me to

  198. call and welcome them from being here so

  199. many of you who came to Sheran Hills

  200. with the next Monday or Tuesday you got

  201. a phone call and it was probably from

  202. Ted capella uh Ted capella has served in

  203. the life of our church listen Ted would

  204. be in the hospital during the week

  205. receiving chemo or um in great Peril and

  206. then over the last two years if there

  207. was any way possible for him to be

  208. sitting right here on this aisle he was

  209. there um some of y'all get a sniffle in

  210. your nose and go oh I think we need to

  211. stay home today

  212. I am so proud of Ted capella and his

  213. example to us as a church he served

  214. Faithfully as a servant leader in our

  215. church and today we're going to

  216. celebrate uh the salvation of him we're

  217. going to celebrate his life and how God

  218. made him and how God saved him and uh

  219. his blessing to us so Robin we love you

  220. and we want you to know that we hurt

  221. with you as you've lost your your

  222. husband but we are so thank thankful as

  223. a church family to have been ministered

  224. to by him so at 1:30 um we will be doing

  225. that I will ask the capella family

  226. everybody who's in the family to head

  227. out during our prayer time at the end of

  228. the service so they can slip out and get

  229. a bite to eat and uh then everybody will

  230. be able to come back at 1:30 so

  231. community group Christmas Gatherings

  232. have been really really great very proud

  233. of you guys for getting together and uh

  234. loving one another reaching out to one

  235. another if you haven't organize yours go

  236. ahead and do that um that'll be

  237. important as we get the year started I

  238. want to remind you that next Sunday is

  239. starting point starting point begins

  240. it's a class that I teach on the life of

  241. the church um this is amazing we fix a

  242. big breakfast for you so I think we have

  243. already um 37 people signed up for

  244. starting point and uh maybe you your

  245. name needs to be on that list I invite

  246. you to come and to be a part of that for

  247. the next few weeks you'll be blessed and

  248. uh this is a time for the pastors to get

  249. to know you this next uh slide shows you

  250. seminars some new seminars that are

  251. beginning in addition to the ones that

  252. we're already doing the levitic

  253. Leviticus effect is going to be begun

  254. first Samuel this is a great study of

  255. one of the great narrative scriptures of

  256. the Old Testament great storytelling in

  257. the book of Samuel and we'll be studying

  258. that um and an over view of the new of

  259. the New Testament is also available some

  260. of you are wondering how the New

  261. Testament fits together um Dr chipwood

  262. and I were talking yesterday about how

  263. he came to convictional Faith that God's

  264. word is true and it was amazing how both

  265. of us we just we're just talking about

  266. once we came to realize that Jesus truly

  267. is our savior and the gift of faith is

  268. given to our heart and we believe and

  269. then as we start to read the scripture

  270. we we start to realize this whole thing

  271. fits together it fits together like lock

  272. and key it's not a bunch of random

  273. writings um there's a there's a cohesive

  274. measure from Genesis 1 to the end of

  275. Revelation God's word is Rich and true

  276. and as we often say here in the life of

  277. our church your whole Bible fits

  278. together it's a matter of us studying it

  279. learning how it fits together and God

  280. does a great work of that so overview of

  281. New Testament is a great study in that I

  282. want to encourage you to sign up for one

  283. of those today and uh you'll be ready

  284. for next week so that allows us to know

  285. how much of the materials to print so if

  286. you would go ahead and you can go to the

  287. app and do that um and uh or you can go

  288. to the computers in the back pizza with

  289. pastors next week for anybody who's

  290. never anybody that's new to us over then

  291. the last month we've not had a chance to

  292. get to know you we do 20 minutes of a

  293. bite to eat after the service I want to

  294. encourage you with that also want to

  295. encourage you if you're a winter guest

  296. and you're coming back a little bit we

  297. haven't seen you we invite you for that

  298. so you say well I was here last year or

  299. the last 20 years during the winter we

  300. want to see you so you're invited to

  301. come back so the winter guest we'd love

  302. to have you that sharkfest is this

  303. coming Saturday this is a big deal

  304. excuse me next Saturday not this

  305. Saturday but the next Saturday this is a

  306. big deal there'll be over a thousand

  307. people here this is a great Outreach

  308. from our school um Everybody in the

  309. church Hamp family is invited um it is a

  310. great time in the Grove um and it's a

  311. fundraiser for our school so um the

  312. lunch and everything else is part of

  313. that but it's a it's a rich time of a

  314. lot of fun invite friends and family to

  315. that and they get to learn about our

  316. school ministry as well well Pastor

  317. Jason is going to pray for us today he's

  318. going to lead us in prayer and uh I want

  319. to invite you to um be ready to pray uh

  320. reme remembering this that Jason is is

  321. going to voice our prayer but you are

  322. going to pray with him um Jason is uh

  323. one of the trustees of the international

  324. Mission board so it's appropriate that

  325. we ask him to come and to do that I want

  326. to encourage you uh to stand with me to

  327. your feet and he's going to lead us in

  328. prayer and then we're going to sing

  329. again and when we sing I want to

  330. encourage you to sing with all of your

  331. heart so Pastor Jason come and leave us

  332. in prayer this

  333. morning let's go to the Lord in

  334. prayer God we come before you

  335. today and Lord we want to give you the

  336. praise that you

  337. deserve God you've been a gracious God

  338. to us you provided salvation for us even

  339. while we were Sinners separated from you

  340. you reconciled us through the Precious

  341. Blood of your son and God we thank you

  342. for that we thank you for how gracious

  343. you've been to us Lord many of us have

  344. endured difficult things through these

  345. last few weeks and months but God you

  346. have continued to show us Grace not only

  347. Grace at Salvation but Grace in every

  348. single aspect of our lives and God we

  349. thank you for that God you are worthy of

  350. our praise and Lord we just want to

  351. honor you

  352. Lord this morning as we think about

  353. various people in the life of our church

  354. we ask for you to continue to love and

  355. show your great love for

  356. Robin God thank you for the life of Ted

  357. capella thank you for how he served in

  358. the life of the church how he was

  359. faithful to you all the way through his

  360. life God thank you for his willingness

  361. and desire to diligently study your word

  362. Lord I pray that the Legacy that he's

  363. set here would continue on with others

  364. here in the life of the church that we

  365. would all be diligent students of your

  366. word Lord we pray for the chaplain

  367. family God we pray for the poor family

  368. and all these families that are grieving

  369. loss of loved ones Lord we pray that

  370. your great love

  371. would fill their hearts a peace that

  372. passes all understanding would fill

  373. their hearts and lives and God that they

  374. would know

  375. you and rest in that love and peace that

  376. you give God thank you this morning for

  377. the opportunity to hear from Dr Chitwood

  378. we thank you for his service in the life

  379. of the international Mission board we

  380. thank you for how he leads and how he

  381. seeks to support support 3,000 plus

  382. missionaries that are overseas sharing

  383. the gospel and God I pray for him I pray

  384. for he both he and his family Lord that

  385. you would continue to guide them and

  386. lead them as he seeks to lead the

  387. international Mission board I pray that

  388. today as he comes here and as he

  389. preaches the truth of your word and as

  390. he talks about the greatest problem in

  391. the world I pray that all of us would

  392. listen intently and God not only just

  393. listen but God go from this place and

  394. think how can I address this great

  395. problem Lord I Thank you for

  396. opportunities that you give us to share

  397. with our relatives and our neighbors and

  398. those that we go to school with and

  399. those that we work beside and Lord I

  400. pray that as we Faithfully share your

  401. truth with people that don't know you

  402. that many would be pricked at the heart

  403. and trust in you you and you alone for

  404. salvation God we thank you that we can

  405. rest in our Salvation knowing that you

  406. love us that you care for us and God

  407. that you have provided for us the

  408. privilege of being called your

  409. children and so God I pray that as we

  410. sing again and remind ourselves of the

  411. truth of this glorious news of the

  412. Gospel that we would just praise you all

  451. fast we thank God for that great truth

  452. that he holds us fast you may be seated

  453. and as you're seated some men are coming

  454. forward to offer to you a sermon outline

  455. if somehow you got in here without one

  456. just simply lift your hand and they will

  457. give one of these to you you will need

  458. that this morning Dr chipwood is going

  459. to be preaching from God's word as we

  460. always do here in the life of the church

  461. and we're looking at several important

  462. passages and they will be there Dr

  463. Chitwood has served our International

  464. Mission board for the last 6 years but

  465. he's been involved in the life of the

  466. Mission board as a trustee for many many

  467. years before that so he has a very

  468. unique um prep preparation for his

  469. presidency he was part of the overseeing

  470. of the board for many years was very

  471. well acquainted in fact I sent him an

  472. email before I had ever met him after I

  473. had been through security training I was

  474. leaving a city in the Middle East headed

  475. back back to North Africa and as I was

  476. flying back I had been through several

  477. days of contingency security training

  478. because we lived in a part of the world

  479. that was a uh very very possible uh that

  480. you would come into a problem and uh I

  481. remember as I was going back I was so

  482. thankful to God for the training I had

  483. received because it brought great peace

  484. to my heart now they said if this

  485. happens you'll know to do this if this

  486. happen you'll know to do this if this

  487. happens you'll know to do this I

  488. remember writing an email Somewhere over

  489. the Mediterranean Sea to uh Dr Chitwood

  490. and to uh the president of the board at

  491. the time Dr Ranken and just saying thank

  492. you very much for providing this kind of

  493. resource to our missionaries and so um

  494. just so thankful for that Dr Chitwood we

  495. welcome you in the Name of Christ this

  496. morning we ask that God would speak to

  497. us each one through your words this

  498. morning and so church family would you

  499. please give a hearty welcome to Dr Paul

  500. chickwood thank

  501. you well thank you Church uh for that

  502. warm welcome thank you Pastor Andrew and

  503. Marcy for the warm welcome you've given

  504. us over the last few days my wife

  505. Michelle and two of our daughters Kai

  506. and Lillian are here with us and we've

  507. been treated like royalty since we

  508. showed up in South Florida I mean it was

  509. enough for us to just escape the snow

  510. and ice of Richmond Virginia this week

  511. uh but the bonus of being with wonderful

  512. people and worshiping with a wonderful

  513. church this morning uh is certainly uh

  514. cherry on the top of the whipped cream I

  515. have been looking forward to this time

  516. for a few reasons and one of the reasons

  517. was to get to know Pastor Andrew and

  518. Marcy better they have such a tremendous

  519. reputation at the naal Mission board

  520. from their time of service uh but also

  521. from the way they've continued to serve

  522. the Great Commission uh as uh a pastor

  523. at your church and here in partnership

  524. with your church and so getting to know

  525. them better has been a privilege and

  526. thank you for allowing me to Steward

  527. this Pulpit today uh I do not take that

  528. lightly but it's also uh been a cause

  529. for me to look forward to being here

  530. just to

  531. say thank you

  532. Church uh of all the churches across the

  533. Southern Baptist convention uh more than

  534. 45,000 of them uh this is one of the

  535. most deeply invested uh generous and

  536. strongly partnering churches that we

  537. have and I thank God for the rich

  538. missions Legacy of this church going

  539. back to the earliest days uh now I think

  540. you're in like your 62nd year uh but

  541. also to realize uh how today more than

  542. ever through the leadership of your

  543. pastors and through the convictions of

  544. this congregation uh there is more Great

  545. Commission work going on through

  546. Sheridan Hills uh then throughout your

  547. history so to see the church continue to

  548. grow in that commitment I want to say

  549. thank you on behalf of 3600 IMB

  550. missionaries and the 3,000 missionary

  551. kids who are part of those families

  552. thank you for your prayers for them

  553. thank you for your generosity in

  554. financially providing for their needs

  555. thank you many of you for going on on

  556. those volunteer mission trips and

  557. serving alongside of them thank you for

  558. being great advocates in the Great

  559. Commission work that we do

  560. together then there's one more reason

  561. I've really been looking forward to

  562. being here and that is because I have

  563. actually been given permission by your

  564. pastors to use this as a recruiting

  565. opportunity while you have missionaries

  566. serving on your behalf in 155 countries

  567. of the world through the

  568. IMB today there is a greater need than

  569. ever before in the history of the world

  570. for the gospel to get to more people

  571. around the world and that means we need

  572. more people to Proclaim that gospel to

  573. be willing to take that gospel so I want

  574. to speak to you today just for a moment

  575. first if you're a student I've already

  576. met some students this morning who have

  577. taken advantage of opportunities like

  578. this already but there are opportunities

  579. for you to spend

  580. a summer or a semester or even a briefer

  581. period of time a longer period of time

  582. like a gap year you can spend it with

  583. the IMB serving with one of our teams

  584. overseas and we would love the

  585. opportunity to talk with you about that

  586. Doug medin one of my uh team members is

  587. here today and he or I or any of the

  588. pastors would love to connect you with

  589. some of those opportunities and the

  590. chance to learn about those uh young

  591. people you can go out fully funded

  592. through our journeyman program uh if you

  593. finished your uh studies whatever that

  594. looked like you finished up college or

  595. maybe you didn't even go to college the

  596. journey program is a fully funded

  597. two-year opportunity to serve on one of

  598. our teams

  599. overseas we'd love to talk with you

  600. about that uh we need more career

  601. missionaries and the opportunity to see

  602. more being sent out from Sheridan Hills

  603. I know you have sent out several over

  604. the years and more are in the pipeline

  605. now but there there are chances for you

  606. uh to go if God is calling you to serve

  607. with the IMB and then to not leave a

  608. generation out of this we have just

  609. relaunched our master's missionary

  610. pathway what is that well if you are

  611. nearing retirement or in your retirement

  612. years and you would be willing to give

  613. maybe two to three years of those

  614. retirement years to make an eternal

  615. impact among the

  616. Nations we would love to talk with you

  617. about that there's opportunities for you

  618. to go fully funded or you say hey I've

  619. got a good retirement I don't need the

  620. funding that's okay too but to use the

  621. gifts God has given you the skills that

  622. you've built in your life and career

  623. over the years and it really doesn't

  624. matter what that background has been uh

  625. we can use a retired school teacher we

  626. can use a retired pastor we can use a

  627. retired health care worker uh we can use

  628. a retired farmer we can use retired

  629. military personnel retired police

  630. officer

  631. uh we could you listen we can even use a

  632. retired attorney at the IMB so whatever

  633. uh your work has been in life there's a

  634. place God could use that to make an

  635. eternal impact among the Nations and we

  636. would love the opportunity to talk talk

  637. with you about what that would look like

  638. so I don't think I've left anyone out

  639. maybe the bad babies but they can come

  640. with mom and dad every generation has an

  641. opportunity to take the gospel to the

  642. Nations this morning

  643. I want our Focus to be from God's word

  644. on why this work is so

  645. important why is the work that this

  646. church has been investing in since the

  647. very launch of your church and now more

  648. than

  649. ever why is this so vital we're looking

  650. to the Book of Romans chapter 3 and you

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  651. have the outline hopefully there in

  652. front of you scripture passage will

  653. probably be on the screen but certainly

  654. there in the handout uh as you're

  655. pulling that together and turning uh

  656. your eyes toward scripture this morning

  657. let me give a little bit of the context

  658. for the primary passage I'm preaching

  659. from Romans chapter 3 if you have much

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  660. familiarity with the book of Romans you

  661. know that is a theologically rich and

  662. deep book it gives such great clarity to

  663. us uh just on a basic understanding of

  664. the Gospel on the role of the church on

  665. what God is doing throughout salvation

  666. history

  667. but one of the matters that is taken up

  668. in this book as God through the Holy

  669. Spirit speaks through as God is the

  670. author of scripture speaks through the

  671. Apostle Paul who pin his

  672. word one of the things is very personal

  673. to the man who is pinning as the word as

  674. the Holy Spirit was giving him those

  675. words and that is the Apostle Paul Paul

  676. was an

  677. Israelite Paul was a Jew

  678. and Paul at this point in his life

  679. having uh come to Christ having been

  680. saved have been called to be a

  681. missionary and leader in the church uh

  682. Paul had great concerns about those

  683. among his

  684. people who had not believed the

  685. gospel who did not affirm that Jesus was

  686. the

  687. Messiah Paul shares concerns that really

  688. take him back and many of the writings

  689. that you will find from the Apostle Paul

  690. in the New Testament to the promises of

  691. God in the Old Testament we know that

  692. the Old Testament is chucked full of

  693. promises that God makes to Israel his

  694. Covenant people and Paul will ask

  695. questions like will those promises be

  696. kept since so many of the Israelites

  697. have rejected Jesus as the Messiah

  698. ultimately he will conclude yes God's

  699. promises to Israel will be kept because

  700. God keeps every promise God has ever

  701. made God is not a liar God always does

  702. what he says he will

  703. do but the scriptures also make clear

  704. and Paul will also make clear in the

  705. passage we're looking at

  706. today that God's promises to a

  707. people do no way in no way excuse any

  708. individual

  709. person for their responsibility before

  710. God their accountability before God for

  711. their

  712. sin and their need to put their personal

  713. trust in Jesus as the

  714. Savior so that's the

  715. context as we pick up here in Romans 3

  716. beginning in verse 9 Paul ask what then

  717. are we Jews any better off again knowing

  718. we're the Covenant people of God are we

  719. somehow better

  720. off no not at all for we have already

  721. charge that all both Jews and Greeks are

  722. under sin and is it is written none is

  723. righteous no not one no one understands

  724. no one seeks for God all have turned

  725. aside together they have become

  726. worthless no one does good not even

  727. one their throat is an open grave they

  728. use their tongues to deceive the Venom

  729. of asps or of snakes is under their

  730. lips their mouth is full of curses and

  731. bitterness their feet are Swift to shed

  732. blood and their paths are ruin in

  733. misery and the way of peace they have

  734. not

  735. known if those words aren't condemning

  736. enough here Verse

  737. 18 there is no fear of

  738. God Before Their

  739. Eyes sobering

  740. words strong

  741. words convicting

  742. words Paul makes it clear in these words

  743. God makes it clear as he speaks through

  744. Paul that regardless of our ethnicity

  745. our background our family our people our

  746. place we all have the same

  747. problem and Paul focuses

  748. in as he's addressing this matter with

  749. his own people

  750. the

  751. Jews on what really was the greatest

  752. problem in the world in his

  753. day but it's an even greater problem in

  754. our

  755. day if we I were to ask you this morning

  756. to think with me for a few moments about

  757. some of the biggest some of the greatest

  758. problem facing our world

  759. today what things would come to your

  760. mind your your mind may go to some of

  761. the headlines that you read this week or

  762. a news C that you saw you you may be

  763. aware uh of the the magnitude and the

  764. spread and the threat of war and Wars

  765. around our world today the seemingly

  766. endless war in Eastern Europe and the

  767. incredible consequences and Devastation

  768. that has taken place in the war in

  769. Ukraine the awareness certainly that

  770. this church has and rightfully so that

  771. we as people of Faith have of the attack

  772. upon Israel on October 7th of last year

  773. now here before last and and the war in

  774. the Middle East that has spread and

  775. threatens to spread further and all of

  776. the lives the millions of lives being

  777. impacted not to mention the Lesser Wars

  778. uh like what is going on in the Sudan

  779. and other places that that we don't even

  780. see newscasts about but but if I were

  781. asking you what is the greatest problem

  782. facing our world would War be the

  783. greatest

  784. problem you may or may not be aware

  785. because we don't see much of it on the

  786. news our world is facing a greater

  787. hunger crisis than we've seen in more

  788. than four

  789. decades as many as two billion people

  790. around the world today will struggle to

  791. have a single meal to

  792. eat while I'm trying to get rid of my

  793. excess eating in the

  794. holidays people are going

  795. hungry and in fact we are told that as

  796. many as 345 million people around the

  797. world today on the verge of starving to

  798. death those overwhelming numbers aren't

  799. they an overwhelming problem Global

  800. hunger is it the world's greatest

  801. problem you may or may not be aware of

  802. the fact that there are more slaves in

  803. our world today than any point in human

  804. history 50 million people around around

  805. the world today live as forced laborers

  806. slaves more than ever

  807. before is that but what other Global

  808. problems I mean our world is filled with

  809. problems what else comes to mind so many

  810. other things but none of the things I've

  811. referenced is the greatest problem

  812. facing our world today as great as those

  813. problems are as overwhelming as those

  814. problems are they don't even rival what

  815. I believe to be the greatest problem in

  816. our world what the scripture teaches us

  817. is the greatest problem in our world and

  818. that problem in a word

  819. is

  820. lostness spiritual

  821. lostness it's the problem Paul is

  822. addressing here in Romans 3 it's the

  823. condition of human beings before our

  824. creator as we have sinned and fallen

  825. short of the glory of God and our

  826. relationship with the one who has made

  827. us has been

  828. broken by our wrongdoing our Rebellion

  829. our

  830. sin but is it fair to

  831. suggest while people are literally

  832. fleeing for their lives from bullets and

  833. bombs while people are starving to

  834. death while people are living as slaves

  835. or victims of human trafficking or abuse

  836. or is it fair to suggest that a

  837. spiritual problem is the greatest

  838. problem facing our

  839. world indeed it

  840. is as to why well I could give you a

  841. long list of reasons why this is indeed

  842. the world's greatest problem we focus in

  843. on two this

  844. morning and the first is

  845. this lostness is the greatest problem in

  846. our world because it's the only problem

  847. that

  848. lasts every other problem think think

  849. about the problems in your life

  850. all of the problems in life are

  851. temporary in the sense that when you die

  852. that's no longer a problem I mean what

  853. kind of problems are you facing in this

  854. new year problems with your bank

  855. account problems with the balance in

  856. your checking account problems at work

  857. problems in your

  858. marriage problems in your

  859. family health problems lower back

  860. pain uh

  861. who's going to make this Championship or

  862. that playoff

  863. or here's the thing you can be assured

  864. of all of those problems and in fact

  865. every problem in your life ends the

  866. moment you

  867. die

  868. unless you die

  869. lost the real magnitude of that problem

  870. in fact only sets in the moment you pass

  871. from this life into

  872. death and what does that look

  873. like the Bible says that God is

  874. love what would it be to spend in

  875. eternity separated from love the source

  876. of love no one to love you no one to

  877. love the scriptures say that the Holy

  878. Spirit the spirit of God is our

  879. comforter I like to be comfortable don't

  880. you

  881. but what would it be like to face

  882. forever with no Comfort no source of

  883. comfort no one to comfort

  884. you the Bible says that Christ is our

  885. joy and so what would it mean to face

  886. eternity with no joy and no source of

  887. joy and nothing to be joyful about the

  888. Bible says Jesus is your

  889. life and what would it be to face

  890. forever separated from the one who is

  891. life and the source of life

  892. the scriptures give us description of

  893. all of

  894. that the Bible tells us that separation

  895. from God in eternity hell is not a place

  896. of love it is a place of Anguish and

  897. hatred hell is not a place where we are

  898. comfortable and comforted is a place

  899. where we suffer hell is not a place

  900. where we know Joy is a place of sorrow

  901. and grieving hell is not a place of life

  902. it is the place of Eternal

  903. death being separated from God because

  904. of our sin and to die lost is the

  905. greatest problem any human being could

  906. face and the greatest problem in the

  907. world because it is the only problem

  908. that lasts and it lasts

  909. forever it's an

  910. eternal

  911. problem there's another

  912. reason we focus in on the this morning

  913. really this is what Paul hammers home in

  914. Romans

  915. 3 loss this is the world's greatest

  916. problem because it's everyone's problem

  917. it's a universal problem no less than

  918. nine times in just the first few verses

  919. that we've read here uh Paul states that

  920. restates it and restates it again in

  921. different ways and in different language

  922. but saying the same thing let let me

  923. highlight for you these nine occurrences

  924. Paul in verse 9 has asked what then are

  925. we Jews because we're the Covenant

  926. people of God are we are we better off

  927. Paul says no not at all for we've

  928. already charged that all there's the

  929. first occurrence all both Jews and

  930. Greeks are under sin whether you're a

  931. Jew or not this is true of all of us we

  932. are all under sin verse 10 as is

  933. written none is

  934. righteous know not one verse 11 no one

  935. understands no one seeks for God verse

  936. 12 all have turned to side together they

  937. have become worthless no one does good

  938. not even

  939. one nine

  940. times Paul

  941. stressing this is everyone's

  942. problem but where there have been a

  943. reader in his day or someone who's

  944. hearing scripture read in our day and

  945. you're thinking to yourself now I grant

  946. you this is a problem for a lot of

  947. people there are some bad people in our

  948. world I'm just not one of

  949. them Paul's going to use an

  950. illustration uh to close the

  951. argument interestingly it's the same

  952. illustration that James will use in

  953. James

  954. 3 or James in James 3 and Paul here in

  955. Romans 3 essentially will say this oh

  956. you don't think you've ever sinned and

  957. fallen short you don't think you've ever

  958. offended God you don't ever think you've

  959. ever done anything wrong why don't you

  960. consider just for a moment moment

  961. your

  962. words your

  963. tongue if Paul's with us today he might

  964. say take that device out of your pocket

  965. push record carry it around for a while

  966. play it back and then you'll

  967. know it's your problem too because it's

  968. everyone's problem sin is a

  969. universal

  970. problem this fascinating article that I

  971. read in the Atlantic magazine a few

  972. months ago I actually saw it posted

  973. online I thought to myself when I saw

  974. the title of the article that's

  975. clickbait but I clicked it I clicked it

  976. because the title was just so intriguing

  977. the article is entitled why the past 10

  978. years of American Life have been

  979. uniquely

  980. stupid I've

  981. wondered so I clicked the article and I

  982. was fascinated from the get-go it's not

  983. a spiritual article the author Jonathan

  984. hate h d t uh smart guy not necessarily

  985. a committed Christian but but I was

  986. fascinated because as I began to read

  987. the article and his opinion of of why

  988. the past 10 years of American life been

  989. uniquely stupid that he began to use a

  990. Bible

  991. illustration he began to reference a

  992. passage from the Old Testament the

  993. record of the Tower of

  994. Babel you remember

  995. that where the people of the Earth have

  996. come together determined to make a name

  997. for

  998. themselves and they've decided that the

  999. best way they can do that is through a

1000. building project they're going to build

1001. a tower higher than any other tower that

1002. ever been built a tower that would reach

1003. the heavens a tower that would reach to

  1004. God but if you

1005. remember that record of scripture then

1006. you'll recall that this effort that

1007. brought them together didn't turn out

1008. the way they thought it would because

1009. ultimately what brought them together

1010. ended up driving them apart the people

1011. were separated God even confused their

1012. languages they couldn't even communicate

  1013. with one

1014. another well the author of the article

1015. used that as an illustration to make his

  1016. point about social

1017. media he says like the Tower of Babel

1018. was supposed to bring people together

1019. and it drove them apart that's what

1020. social media is doing to our country our

  1021. culture our

1022. society it was supposed to be a place

1023. where we could come and have an online

1024. community and a sense of

1025. belonging a place where we could could

1026. uh be encouraged to uh find friends we

1027. we call them Facebook friends

1028. right but what an unfriendly place it

1029. has turned out often times to

1030. be but I was disappointed while much of

  1031. what he said

1032. resonated and social media like most

1033. things in life can be used for good or

1034. ill and it can bring us together or

1035. drive us apart I was disappointed when I

1036. got to end the article and realized

1037. no Jonathan hate you missed the whole

1038. point because the problem was never

  1039. social

1040. media the problem is not the platform

1041. whether it's Facebook or X or insta or

1042. whatever social media tool out there the

1043. problem was never uh the device whether

1044. it's posting from your phone or on your

1045. laptop or the problem was always a lot

1046. closer than any of that the problem was

  1047. in fact here

1048. the problem is a problem of heart the

  1049. sinfulness of our

1050. heart because the words whether they're

  1051. spoken or

  1052. posted simply

  1053. reveal what's in our

  1054. hearts the

  1055. sin in our

  1056. hearts the hateful things

1057. we say or communicate about others

  1058. simply reveal

  1059. the hate in our

  1060. hearts Jesus made that

1061. point in a conversation with a group of

  1062. religious

  1063. leaders the

  1064. Pharisees Matthew

    Matthew 12:34

  1065. 12:34 records his comments it's

1066. interesting he he begins with a little

  1067. name

1068. calling speaking to the Pharisees Jesus

  1069. says you brood of

  1070. vipers you bunch of

1071. snakes how can you speak good when you

1072. are evil listen for out of the abundance

1073. of the heart the mouth

1074. speaks the words coming from your mouth

1075. simply flow from your heart they reveal

  1076. the sinfulness of our

1077. hearts it's fascinating to me that in

1078. Romans 3 Paul uses the very same imagery

1079. that Jesus uses here in speaking of the

  1080. Pharisees in Matthew

  1081. 12 I I I want to highlight that for you

1082. Paul says in verse 13 again of Romans

  1083. 3

1084. uh it says their throat is an open

1085. grave they use their tongues to

1086. deceive the Venom of asps snakes

  1087. vipers is under their

  1088. lips

1089. Jesus assessing the Pharisees based upon

1090. the words and the S us their heart as a

1091. brute of vipers a bunch of snakes Paul's

1092. saying the same thing is true of all of

1093. us anyone have a good snake

1094. story I grew up in the mountains on the

1095. Tennessee Kentucky line lots of snakes

1096. there I've got lots of

1097. stories but my best one comes from my

  1098. teenage

1099. years it was between my seventh and

1100. eighth grade year i' heard about a

1101. summer camp experience that that

1102. intrigued me I'd always loved the

1103. outdoors hunting and fishing and that

1104. kind of thing and and I'd heard about a

1105. Conservation Camp uh where you could go

1106. and learn about the outdoors and hunting

1107. and fishing and all of that kind of

1108. thing and and I was interested in I

1109. thought maybe I'd want to go to that

1110. camp uh over the course of the summer

1111. and and then there were some specific

1112. things I heard about Conservation Camp

1113. that intrigued me for example I heard

1114. that at Conservation Camp you get to

  1115. dissect the

1116. beaver the mind of a teenage boy I can't

1117. explain it really but but I thought that

1118. would be cool what I did did not know is

1119. that the beaver would be Frozen and they

1120. would have to thaw it out in the bathtub

  1121. in my

1122. cabin but we thought the beaver out in

1123. the bathtub and we dissected the beaver

1124. and it was a good time the uh the

1125. bathtub was pretty greasy the rest of

1126. the week but what's a teenage boy care

1127. right so but but but another thing I'd

1128. heard at Conservation Camp was that you

1129. get to have rattlesnake for supper and I

1130. never tasted rattlesnake I thought that

1131. would be cool and that tastes like

1132. chicken but two things made Conservation

  1133. Camp just

1134. legendary one was called the snake

1135. Roundup and the other was the snake bike

1136. club now the way the snake Roundup

1137. worked all of the kids had come to this

1138. camp on school buses I'd ridden a school

1139. bus from the mountains of Eastern

1140. Tennessee for 9 hours to get over to

1141. this Camp way out in West Tennessee on

1142. the Mississippi River 9 hours on a

  1143. school bus is survivable I don't

1144. recommend it but on the night of the

1145. snake Roundup all the kids got back in

1146. the buses that brought us to Camp they

1147. drove us out to a swampy area just off

1148. of the Mississippi River and and they

1149. set us out and our assignment was to

1150. spend the night waiting through the

  1151. swamp catching

1152. snakes now can you imagine Pastor Andrew

1153. how that'd go today I me you wouldn't as

1154. much as get the kids on the bus somebody

  1155. file a lawsuit they'd shut that

1156. operation down but I'm here to tell you

1157. as God is my witness in 1983 you could

1158. literally feel school buses full of kids

1159. and dump them in the

1160. swamp and get away with it and that's

1161. what they did and we spent the night

1162. waiting through the swamp catching

1163. snakes and we had the best time but the

1164. next day was the day we had all been

1165. waiting for because it was the next day

1166. that one of the camp counselors took

1167. some of the the nonvenomous the

1168. non-poisonous snakes we caught the night

1169. before and he put them in a

1170. pillowcase and he carried them all

1171. around camp and gave any camper kid the

1172. opportunity volunteer if they chose to

1173. do so to join the snake bite

1174. Club it was a simple

1175. process put your hand in the pillowcase

  1176. you're

1177. inducted but the problem I had was when

1178. the camp counselor with a pillowcase

1179. full of snakes finally got down to my

1180. cabin it was all the way at the end of

1181. the row of cabins where we had thought

1182. out the beaver in the

1183. bathtub I guess the snakes were tired

1184. because I finally mustered up the

1185. courage or you may be thinking to

  1186. yourself no the

1187. idiocy to go out and to put my hand in

  1188. that

  1189. pill but when I

  1190. did nothing

1191. happened and so I'm sitting there I'm

1192. looking at the counselor I said like

1193. nothing's going on in there what do I do

1194. he said well pull one

1195. out so I fish around for a moment and

1196. finally grab hold of one that turned out

1197. to be a kind of a fat long water snake

1198. and I pull it out and and it hangs there

1199. from my hand hand about as disinterested

1200. in me as my teenage

1201. daughter it doesn't care a bit and so I

1202. looked at the counselor again I said

1203. what I do now he said well slap

1204. him I'm going to give you advice you

  1205. don't

1206. need snakes don't like to be

1207. slapped because when I slapped him he

1208. slapped me back it was a toothy slap

1209. right on the back of my hand and that's

1210. the true story story of the day I joined

  1211. the snake bite

1212. Club I need to quickly make uh two uh

  1213. qualifying

1214. statements the first is this that was

  1215. not church

  1216. camp I'm from the mountains I ain't that

1217. kind of Baptist some of you know what

1218. I'm talking about we we we we literally

1219. had snake handling churches in the

1220. community where my wife and I were

1221. raised I did not attend never attempted

1222. to never wanted to never did that wasn't

1223. Church camp that was Conservation Camp

1224. but the other thing that I need to

1225. confess to you is that I was actually

1226. already a member of the snake bite

  1227. Club in

1228. fact I was born a member of that

1229. club born a member of the snake

1230. B interesting how many references there

  1231. are in Scripture

  1232. snakes

  1233. vipers

  1234. asps

  1235. serpents it's a recurring

1236. theme the first reference comes

  1237. early you remember that

1238. one the serpent comes into the

1239. garden to tempt the woman and the man

1240. Eve and Adam to do what God has

1241. explicitly told them not to

1242. do we call that sin

  1243. and they did

  1244. it at that

  1245. moment snake

1246. bit the consequences of their sin well

1247. they had walked in perfect fellowship

1248. with their creator that Fellowship was

1249. broken their relationship with God was

1250. broken spiritually they were lost but

1251. the consequences weren't just for

1252. them the consequences were felt through

1253. all of creation we we call it the

1254. fall and even as God speaks the curse

1255. upon The Serpent and the woman and the

1256. man God speaks to the generations that

  1257. are to

1258. come Genesis 3 14 and 15 God speaks of

1259. the enmity that he would put between The

  1260. Serpent and the woman's

  1261. Offspring

1262. lostness the consequences of sin will

1263. not just be felt for you Eve for you

1264. Adam no they will be felt for the

1265. generations that are to come in fact the

1266. scripture say that as human beings the

1267. seed of Adam we are born dead in our

1268. trespasses and sin we inherit Adam's

1269. sinful nature we inherit the

1270. curse but we also know

1271. that we have chosen to sin ourselves

  1272. have we

1273. not you see the consequences in the Next

1274. Generation as the son of Adam and Eve

  1275. murders his

1276. brother lost us being the greatest

1277. problem in the world for that generation

1278. and track through the generation of

1279. scripture you see it in every generation

1280. in fact track through the generations up

  1281. into our

1282. generation and you will see that

1283. lostness is an even greater problem in

1284. our generation than it has ever been

  1285. why would I say

1286. that population on the planet last year

1287. crossed 8 billion people will hit an

1288. estimated 8.2 billion this year more

1289. people on planet than ever before and

1290. more spiritually lost our research team

1291. at the IMB updates a statistic for me

1292. each year that grows every

1293. day it's the number of people around the

1294. world who die who pass away either

1295. having never heard the gospel or having

1296. heard it refused to believe it they die

1297. lost that number will be larger today

1298. than on any day upon which the sun has

1299. risen or set in human history the

1300. average over the course of this past

  1301. year is

  1302. 174,50

  1303. 17422 what 174,00

1304. people who every single day die around

1305. the world having given no indication

1306. that they've heard the gospel or if

  1307. they've heard it that they've believed

  1308. it they die

1309. lost there is no greater problem in the

1310. world than that problem no other problem

  1311. even

  1312. begins to

  1313. rival that

1314. problem but praise be to God

  1315. there's a solution to the

1316. problem and if you were to ask me if

1317. you're member of uh this great church

1318. shid Hills why why our church is here

1319. today I would tell you in the simplest

1320. of terms your church is here doing what

1321. you've been doing now for 62 years and

1322. and doing it better maybe than ever

1323. you've done it before your church is

1324. here sharing the gospel in this

1325. community getting the gospel ends of the

1326. Earth because you know that the gospel

1327. is the solution to the greatest problem

1328. the world has ever faced you are here

1329. this church exists to share the solution

1330. to the world's greatest problem if you

1331. were to ask me why is the international

1332. Mission board exists I'll tell you the

1333. same thing the IMB exists because this

1334. is how your church and other Baptist

1335. churches around the country work

1336. together to address the world's greatest

1337. problem because we know the

1338. solution that solution is made clear to

  1339. us in

1340. scripture it's fascinating that when

1341. Jesus is in conversation with Nicodemus

  1342. it's recorded in John chapter 3

    John 3 chapter mention

1343. fre and Jesus trying to help Nicodemus

1344. understand the gospel Jesus trying to

1345. help Nicodemus understand who he Jesus

1346. is and why he is come and what he's

1347. going to do for Nicodemus and for the

1348. world Jesus told Nicodemus you need to

1349. be born again Nicodemus is struggling to

  1350. understand what that

1351. means be B what an old man go back into

1352. his mother's womb what are you talking

  1353. about Jesus no no

1354. no and to give Clarity to

1355. what is the gospel and what Jesus is

1356. about to do for Nicodemus and for the

1357. world Jesus references another passive

  1358. scripture in the Old

  1359. Testament regarding

1360. snakes it's from the time the Wilderness

  1361. wanderings

1362. and that generation of the Israelites

1363. like every generation before and since

1364. had rebelled and sinned against

1365. God God has sent judgment upon that

1366. generation in the form of deadly snakes

1367. deadly V ERS that had come into the

1368. camps of the Israelites and they're

1369. biting the people and the people are

1370. dying and the people seeing the

1371. consequences of the sin the scripture

1372. say the wages of sin is death they begin

1373. to cry out to God for

1374. mercy and God who is a merciful

  1375. god provides a

1376. solution you remember what that was God

1377. said to leader of people he said to

1378. Moses Moses fashion a serpent a snake

  1379. out of

1380. bronze and put it on on a pole and set

  1381. it up in the

1382. camp If anyone among the Israelites is

1383. bitten by one of these deadly

1384. snakes if they would simply go and look

  1385. upon that Serpent of

  1386. bronze they won't

  1387. die they'll

1388. live and like that the problem is

1389. solved referencing that Jesus says to

1390. Nicodemus again to help Nicodemus

1391. understand who he who Jesus who Jesus is

1392. and what he has come to do for Nicodemus

1393. for the world Jesus says to Nicodemus

  1394. Nicodemus just as

  1395. Moses John 3: 14-

1396. 15 just as Moses lifted up the bronze

  1397. serpent in the

1398. wilderness so must the son of man be

  1399. lifted

1400. up that whosoever believes in

  1401. Him may have eternal

1402. life and he was lifted

  1403. up on the cross

1404. where he died for Nicodemus

1405. sin and your sin and my sin and the sin

  1406. of the

1407. world the Bible says if you believe

1408. that if you're willing to put your trust

1409. in Jesus in his death and Resurrection

  1410. we call that

1411. faith and if you are willing to turn

1412. from your sin and turn to Jesus as the

  1413. Savior we call that

1414. repentance and you're willing to confess

1415. Jesus as Lord because he

1416. is the Bible says at that very moment

  1417. your greatest problem is

1418. solved at that very moment the death of

1419. Jesus on the cross and the price he paid

1420. for sins applied to your sin at that

1421. very moment the gift of Salvation as a

1422. result of the gift of faith is coming to

1423. your life that very moment your eternity

1424. is changed no longer destined to be

1425. separated from God in hell but welcomed

  1426. into his

  1427. kingdom of heaven

1428. God has done everything that's necessary

  1429. to solve your greatest

1430. problem and he did it in Jesus who died

1431. on the cross for our

1432. sin and by faith and

1433. repentance and surrendered to the

  1434. lordship of

  1435. Christ you can be

1436. saved and so can anyone in the

1437. world because you see the gospel is the

  1438. solution

  1439. to the world's greatest

1440. problem if you're here today

1441. and you came on to this church campus

1442. still carrying around the world's

  1443. greatest problem is your

1444. problem know that the gospel is the

1445. solution and by putting your trust in

1446. Christ repenting of your sin and

1447. confessing Jesus Lord of your life you

1448. can be forgiven and saved that problem

  1449. can be solved

  1450. you say

  1451. well I'm already a

  1452. Believer I trust in Christ I I embrace

  1453. the

1454. gospel well then the Lord has left you

1455. here on Earth a little while longer for

  1456. a

1457. reason he's left you here to become a

1458. part of the solution you know the

1459. solution to the world's greatest

1460. problem just as I shared my testimony

  1461. earlier

1462. today about two men in a b Church

1463. knocking on a door of a rental house

  1464. where I was a four-year-old boy inside

1465. and my dad was Raising uh three boys on

  1466. his own

1467. and a couple of men from the church out

  1468. visiting invited him to

1469. church dad took them up on it and we

1470. started going to church and we heard the

  1471. gospel

1472. and time of hearing the gospel we

  1473. trusted Christ and were

1474. saved you wouldn't have to go far out of

1475. the parking lot of Sheridan Hill

1476. to find a broken family lost man woman

  1477. boy or

1478. girl still carrying around the world's

1479. greatest problem you know the

  1480. solution and that's why you're here

1481. you're here to go out

1482. there and to share the good

1483. news get on a plane with us at the IMB

1484. we'll show you billions of people like

  1485. that church don't

  1486. forget why you're here

1487. let's pray together this morning father

  1488. thank you for the

1489. gospel thank you for love so great for

  1490. the world even its

1491. lostness that you would send your only

  1492. begotten

1493. son to Bear the weight of our sin upon

  1494. the

1495. cross thank you Lord Jesus for your

1496. obedience for a love so great that your

1497. life was poured out willingly for

1498. us thank you Lord for now letting your

1499. church and your people be a part of the

1500. solution by carrying the good news to

1501. the ends of the Earth and Lord we know

1502. that that news is more needed today than

  1503. ever before I

1504. pray that you would Find Us

1505. Faithful as Witnesses of the

  1506. Gospel in Jesus name

1507. amen some of you this morning are

1508. saying I finally understand my great

1509. problem you thought it was your marriage

1510. you thought it was your

1511. addiction you thought it was the thing

  1512. that happened so long

  1513. ago but

  1514. it's our separation from

1515. God by which He sent

1516. Jesus to call us home the solution to

  1517. our

1518. problem this morning I want to invite

1519. you to respond to that in every way Dr

1520. Chitwood has beautifully shared with us

1521. the condition of our world and maybe the

  1522. condition of our

1523. heart and maybe some of you would be

1524. saying this so burdens me I sense God

1525. calling me to take more action in my

  1526. life than I

1527. am God may be calling you to go share

  1528. that

1529. solution in a very very very overt way

  1530. maybe he's calling you

  1531. to

  1532. respond to his spirits

  1533. prompting to

1534. go cuz there's somebody out in India

  1535. waiting on

  1536. you there's somebody in

1537. Africa that God has an appointment for

  1538. you with them

  1539. will you

1540. go this morning I want to invite you to

1541. stand and as we stand I want to invite

  1542. you to

1543. respond we're going to sing the

1544. gospel and we're going to

1545. say let the Nations be

1546. glad because there's a solution to the

1547. problem as we sing this morning I want

1548. to invite you to say Lord

1549. take me use my life make me who you want

  1550. me to

1551. be use my words my

1552. time some of you your whole life is in

1553. front of you you're young some of you a

1554. lot of your life is behind you

  1555. you're not

1556. young you can't even say it can

1557. you but God will use the rest of your

1558. life would you not tell him maybe or

1559. later this morning I want to invite you

1560. to come and say yes to him over here on

1561. this side the samaras's are going to be

1562. there the penas are going to be there

1563. and the Riveras are going to be there

1564. all of them are going to be there ready

1565. to just pray with you over on this side

1566. I see uh the catcher sides they would

1567. love to pray with you about decisions

1568. that you you need to make this morning

1569. and so let's sing let the glory of the

1570. Lord forever be our joy May Redemption

1571. be the theme of Our Song for by Grace we

1572. have been saved and by Grace we shall

1573. Proclaim to what to the corners of the

1574. earth that what Christ has come the

1575. solution to the problem would you

1576. respond to God's call this morning let's

1577. sing together and you come and pray with

1578. these if you need to come and pray with

1579. these let's sing with all of our hearts

1580. this morning all of our voice and you

1581. respond but the glory of the

1582. Lord forever be our joy May Redemption

  1583. be the

  1629. Nations

  1630. be amen

1631. amen you may be seated I just want to

1632. say that these folks over here the

1633. Riveras and over here at the catcher

1634. sides they're going to be there after

1635. the service and I know a lot of times in

1636. this present day and time maybe God has

1637. been dealing with you and while we're

1638. singing that seems overwhelming for you

1639. to go forward to talk to somebody and

1640. just say I just need you to pray with me

1641. about something I want to say to you

1642. that they're going to stay there after

1643. the service so if God has been prompting

1644. you and and I will tell you that as a

1645. late high school student sitting over

  1646. here in this

1647. area God was really impress pressing

1648. upon me that he was calling me

1649. to give my life for the purpose of

1650. telling people that a savior has died

1651. and I didn't know what to do with that

  1652. at

1653. first but um I remember coming forward

1654. and asking someone to pray for me on

1655. that that was my step of faith for the

1656. first part so I just want to say to you

1657. however old you are wherever you are

1658. whatever decision is it is that you need

1659. to make come and pray with somebody take

1660. that step of faith and let God begin to

1661. do a work in you you may not have it all

1662. figured out but I can guarantee you one

1663. thing the Lord does he knows what is

1664. best for you he knows what he's calling

1665. you to do well um this morning would you

1666. please say thank you to Dr Chitwood for

1667. bringing the word amen thank you

1668. brother I'll just say to you you know in

1669. these modern times a large organization

1670. working around the world there's a lot

1671. of weirdness that happens and Dr

1672. chipwood came into a lot of

1673. circumstances that were very hard as the

1674. president and he has handled them with

1675. wisdom and Grace and I know that

1676. personally you guys know we have a lot

  1677. of friends with the

1678. IMB and um I praise God seriously I

1679. praise God that he raised up Paul for

  1680. this time

1681. and um the IMB is getting healthier and

1682. healthier and healthier and I'm just

1683. thankful because the world I believe is

1684. waiting on us to go and the Lord is

1685. using us now the Lord doesn't need us he

1686. can do whatever he wants amen but we are

1687. privileged to go and Obey and so Dr

1688. chipwood thank you for that um I'm so

1689. thankful you all know the lmon Christmas

1690. offering we make a big deal of that and

1691. um our goal is $80,000 and you know

1692. praise the Lord do you do you know I

1693. mean um we're not going to show it yet

1694. to you but I will say this the $80,000

1695. was met Dr chipwood would you come up

1696. here we have um something Dr or uh Jason

1697. has something for you this morning and

1698. um I am excited about this uh this

1699. morning turn that thing around Jason and

1700. hand that to Dr shwood wow

  1701. that's

  1702. incredible praise the

  1703. Lorden thank you thank

1704. you thank you thank you thank you Pastor

  1705. for your

1706. leadership and the way you model what it

1707. means to serve and give your life for

1708. this cause I thank you Church family for

  1709. your

  1710. generosity uh

1711. we let me let me see this when I came

1712. into my role six years ago we had

1713. 300 applicants wanting to serve with the

  1714. imv as of last

  1715. Friday there were

  1716. 1,464 prise

1717. God the only question mark is will the

1718. resources be there will the generosity

1719. be sufficient to send them and if every

1720. church steps up like sherid and Hills I

1721. can assure you yes it the resources will

1722. be there so thank you for leading the

1723. way and setting the example thank you

1724. for this sacrificial off praise the Lord

  1725. praise the

1726. Lord now he is he and Michelle and Kai

1727. and Lillian are running to the airport

1728. Unfortunately they have to live I can't

1729. wait to see him get on the plane with

1730. that so no um you know let me just

1731. remind you that I mean Marcy and I give

1732. the lmon Christmas offering every single

1733. month so we give to Sheran Hills getting

1734. ready for that offering every we don't

1735. want to mess it up in December so we

1736. give every single month I don't know

1737. what your plan on giving is but I want

1738. to encourage you to give to the

1739. Fulfillment of the Great Commission Now

1740. you say well don't I give to the church

1741. yes and every single week we give to the

1742. Cooperative program that also supports

1743. it's the other half of the annual budget

1744. of the IMB so we give every month um or

1745. every week but I want to encourage you

1746. to make the Lan Christmas offering your

1747. largest gift of the year I really do it

1748. is worth it now don't give your tithe to

1749. that you'll come and there'll be no

1750. lights on or air conditioning this is

1751. over and above and it is worth it and

1752. Jesus is worth it and uh there are

1753. people waiting to hear and so praise the

1754. Lord for that we are so thankful for

1755. this um I want to remind you that this

1756. Wednesday night um all activities resume

1757. and I think Pastor um Ben has a few

1758. announcements for us but before we stand

1759. and before we go Pastor Ben share with

1760. us what's coming up all uh Wednesday

1761. activities resume that's aana and that

1762. is youth Bible studies as well as

1763. recharge uh don't miss that uh we also

1764. have a Clarity Camp info meeting that's

1765. for parents of the youth that's January

  1766. 22nd our I serve Covenant members

1767. meeting is January 26 this is the

1768. kickoff and this is important for you to

1769. be there because we're going to start

1770. talking about and praying about our

1771. church budget for the next year as well

1772. as some other issues in the life of the

1773. church membership as well as our

1774. strategies for Community groups and what

1775. that's going to look like this year with

  1776. Evangelistic Outreach in our

1777. neighborhoods also we have a missions

1778. fundraising lunch that's Sunday March

1779. 2nd save the date for that that's going

1780. to be in um on a Sunday after church and

1781. so we have live and Silent auctions to

1782. raise money for Missions so if you have

1783. items that you would like to donate to

1784. the church so that we can raise support

1785. for Missions that would be for live and

1786. silent auction um you can drop those off

1787. at the church office anytime the

1788. deadline is February 16th we'll send an

1789. email out as well to notify you of that

1790. so I mean if they have a diamond ring or

1791. if they have a condo or a car or just an

1792. extra one they can donate to the church

1793. and we will auction it we'll take

1794. whatever's valuable and that can be

1795. resold or that can be um bid for and

1796. we'll do that and all that money will go

1797. 100% overseas to missions so that's what

1798. we're trying to raise money for this

1799. doesn't mean clean out your garage and

1800. bring it to the church okay we don't

1801. know your 1975 hair dryer don't do that

1802. that but unless it's like a antique okay

1803. you got to say that so yeah you know

1804. what's an antique and what needs to be

1805. thrown up all right uh we also have some

1806. devotionals the book of of the week uh

1807. is devotionals and we have a 365 daily

1808. Bible reading plan it's so important to

1809. be in God's word this year like it is

1810. every year so we have books available in

1811. the center Anna and her team have put

1812. those have curated those books for you

1813. uh there's four ways to give as Pastor

1814. Andrew mentioned um you have those

1815. numbers in your bulletin every Sunday

1816. you can do that online you can do that

1817. through the app you can drop your

1818. offering in the boxes or you can give by

1819. mail and at at this time I also want to

1820. remind you that Ted Capella's memorial

1821. service is today at 1:30 so please um go

1822. go to lunch come back and we will

1823. celebrate Christ as we remember Ted's

1824. life amen thank you um I'd like to ask

1825. you to stand and the capella family if

1826. you guys while I pray if you guys would

1827. just go ahead and head on over to the

1828. ministry Center that would be great so

1829. please allow them to slip out so that

1830. they can go and let's bow for prayer and

1831. just ask God's blessing on this week

1832. father we thank you we thank you that

1833. you have allowed us to not only know

1834. your name but to know your heart thank

1835. you Father for giving us Jesus we thank

1836. you that your salvation is the greatest

1837. solution to our greatest problem and so

1838. Lord I pray that as we leave here today

1839. that we would leave here actually

1840. encouraged and edified by your spirit I

1841. pray that we would be empowered by your

1842. Holy Spirit to do all that you've called

1843. us to do this week Lord I pray for

1844. gospel conversations I pray that you

1845. would open the door that we would be

1846. able to share the mystery of Christ Lord

1847. I pray that people all over South

1848. Florida would hear of Jesus because we

1849. leave this place today so Lord do it

1850. even now Divine appointments father I

1851. pray that you would bring them to us and

1852. that you would cause us to Be watchful

1853. and take the opportunities that you've

1854. given us to share Christ and Lord I pray

1855. for those who are feeling called to the

1856. mission field I pray God that they would

1857. not say well maybe or delay Lord I pray

1858. that today that they would take a step

1859. of faith and say is is God calling me

1860. and ask somebody to pray with them so

1861. Lord I pray for this and I pray that you

1862. would do Great and Mighty things we ask

1863. your blessing upon this afternoon as we

1864. go in jesus' name amen the two-minute

1865. rule greet somebody that you do not know

  1866. right

  1867. now for
