  1. if you have your Bible take it and turn

  2. with me to Luke chap 15 as we consider

  3. as we continue our study of the prodical

  4. son if you don't have a sermon outline

  5. there's some guys that are coming

  6. forward to give one to you if you're new

  7. to us this morning we study the Bible we

  8. study it in an expository way um that

  9. means we work through it and we we

  10. notice what is there we expose what is

  11. there well last week we um were focusing

  12. on the burdens of the lost and I I began

  13. with this picture of lost people um or

  14. of people the crowds of the world um and

  15. you know very often when you hear a

  16. mission's

  17. sermon there is the problem of our sin

  18. and there's the problem of condemnation

  19. from that sin and there's the lostness

  20. that is all around us that we we see we

  21. talk about lost people those who have

  22. not been found in Christ and very often

  23. it's a very

  24. burdensome motivation that we should

  25. look at we we see that Jesus looked out

  26. upon the crowds and he had compassion

  27. Jesus went up to Jerusalem and he wept

  28. over

  29. Jerusalem's Rebellion this is a very

  30. real aspect of the need for us to be

  31. involved in missions it's because of the

  32. great lostness of the world the burden

  33. there's the command for us to take the

  34. gospel there's the the the great hope

  35. that people need of heaven but I want us

  36. to see this morning in this Parable that

  37. we've already studied under the burdens

  38. of the lost I want us to also see the

  39. joy of the found I want us to see the

  40. joy of the found and I am not afraid to

  41. look at a mission's message and present

  42. to you an appeal to Mission an appeal

  43. for you to pray about God's kingdom in

  44. the world an appeal for you to possibly

  45. go as far as your front yard or around

  46. the world some of you God is calling you

  47. to give your life to missions much like

  48. he did with Marcy and me when we left

  49. and we went overseas we thought it was

  50. forever um you know the early uh

  51. missionaries when they went they would

  52. pack their clothes in a coffin and they

  53. would get on a ship and they would be

  54. going off to India or they'd be going

  55. off to Asia and the Very coffin that

  56. shipped all of their stuff over was

  57. assumed that it would be the coffin that

  58. would ship their body

  59. back that's

  60. commitment but in the modern world that

  61. we live with air travel and everything

  62. else it's a little bit more fluid than

  63. it used to be and by God's grace even

  64. though Marcy nearly died and she almost

  65. came home in a coffin she came home

  66. alive and that is what God brought us

  67. back home to but when we left we had we

  68. had left with the great hope and the

  69. motivation of bringing the gospel

  70. through the joy of Christ to those who

  71. so desperately need it I want us to see

  72. here the background and review and this

  73. is a little bit from last week and I

  74. want us to see it very quickly look what

  75. it says here um this is often called the

  76. parable of the what parable of the

  77. prodal son and we talked about a prodigy

  78. means something really big and if you

  79. play that out about that little bit we

  80. see that this prodical son when we read

  81. the story we see that he was living

  82. large we often hear that living large

  83. what does that mean the idea of you're

  84. living big you're living beyond your

  85. means you're taking it all in you're

  86. doing it all blowing it all out notice

  87. this but the story is really about two

  88. rebellious sons and their what loving

  89. gracious father if you're new to us this

  90. morning you didn't read this last week

  91. you're going to be amazed at this

  92. Parable you've heard it before probably

  93. mentioned in the news or mentioned in a

  94. story mentioned in a movie we always

  95. talk about oh I was the prodal or this

  96. person was the prodal well what does

  97. that mean we we see it here you see

  98. number three last week we recognized

  99. the burdens of the Lost we saw this

  100. prodal son in all of the pain that he

  101. went through look with me here we saw

  102. the

  103. shamelessness he wasn't ashamed to ask

  104. for it all right now and then we see the

  105. shame that he brought upon his family he

  106. leaves with everything and he goes out

  107. into another country probably selling

  108. the family land and the family riches in

  109. order to be able to leave Eve and you

  110. can imagine the Scandal that it was for

  111. his

  112. family but we also saw the insanity of

  113. it it says that he went and he went

  114. after it so hard that it all was

  115. gone the foolishness the insanity of

  116. blowing it all you know that that's the

  117. point where we said sin you guys help me

  118. out here in the life of our church we

  119. say this often sin will make

  120. you stupid let's say that out loud

  121. together sin will make you stupid say it

  122. again sin will make you

  123. stupid you remember the guy in the

  124. tinted house for termites with his mask

  125. and his snorkel

  126. on just sin will make you

  127. stupid sin will take the the setup the

  128. tea up for a great life and destroy

  129. it and so what we see here is that this

  130. young man in the pursuit of his own lust

  131. and the pursuit of his own life and his

  132. pursuit of his own joy and happiness he

  133. loses his sanity and he then he comes to

  134. desperation we saw the desperation of

  135. the Lost he's saying that I wish I could

  136. just eat with the pigs eat and if I

  137. could just go home I would go home and

  138. just be a servant in my father's house

  139. but we not only saw that lostness but we

  140. also saw the selfish angry Envy of the

  141. other brother cuz he had a wicked heart

  142. too he was angry that when his son came

  143. home his loving gracious father received

  144. him and so let's read this and let's

  145. remember and then I want us to see some

  146. important things from it this morning um

  147. Luke 15 and: 11 it says and he said this

  148. is Jesus speaking Jesus is teaching he's

  149. teaching to every the crowds around him

  150. including a lot of religious leaders

  151. that were in the crowd that's what Luke

  152. 15 and verse one says that there were

  153. people that were opposing him all around

  154. and so Jesus gave some Parables that's

  155. Luke 15 he gives some Parables look what

  156. it says and he said there was a man who

  157. had two sons and the younger of them

  158. said to his father father give me the

  159. share that is coming to me see that's

  160. Shameless and he divided his property

  161. between them not many days later the

  162. younger son gathered all that he had and

  163. took a journey to a far country so he

  164. sells off the property he he brings

  165. Scandal on the family he is this is

  166. shameful

  167. behavior and there he squandered his

  168. property in Reckless living that's

  169. Insanity verse 14 and when he had spent

  170. what everything that's

  171. Insanity a severe family famine arose in

  172. that country and he began to be in need

  173. so he went and he hired himself out to

  174. be one of the citizens of that country

  175. who s to one of the citizens of that

  176. country who sent him into his fields to

  177. feed pigs verse 16 and he was longing to

  178. be fed with the pods that the pigs ate

  179. and no one gave him anything verse 17

  180. and when he came to himself he said how

  181. many of my father's hired servants have

  182. more than enough bread but I

  183. perish here with Hunger I will arise and

  184. go to my father and I will say to him

  185. father I have sinned against heaven in

  186. before you I am no longer worthy to be

  187. called your son treat me as one of your

  188. hired

  189. servants verse 20 and he arose and came

  190. to his father but while he was still a

  191. long way off his father saw him and felt

  192. compassion

  193. passion and ran and embraced him and

  194. kissed him and the son said to him

  195. father I have sinned against heaven and

  196. before you I am no longer worthy to be

  197. called your son verse 22 look what it

  198. says but the father said to his servants

  199. bring quickly the best robe and put it

  200. on him and put a ring on his hand and

  201. shoes on his feet and bring the fatted

  202. calf and kill it let us eat and

  203. celebrate for this my son was dead and

  204. is alive again he was lost and he is

  205. what he's found and they began to what

  206. Cate

  207. celebrate now his older son was in the

  208. field and he came and Drew near the

  209. house and heard the music and dancing

  210. and he called one of the servants and

  211. asked what these things meant and he

  212. said to them your brother has come home

  213. your father has killed the fatted calf

  214. because he has received received him

  215. back safe and sound verse 28 but he was

  216. angry and refused to go

  217. in his father came out and entreated him

  218. but he answered his father look these

  219. many years I have served you and I've

  220. never disobeyed your command yet you

  221. never gave me a young goat that I may

  222. celebrate with my friends but when this

  223. son of yours came who has devoured your

  224. property with prostitutes you killed the

  225. fatted calf for him wow and he said to

  226. his son son you are always with me and

  227. all that is mine is

  228. yours it was fitting to celebrate and be

  229. glad for this your brother was dead and

  230. he's alive he was lost and he is

  231. found

  232. now this morning as we look at this I've

  233. underlined and highlighted some verses

  234. for us to see another part of the story

  235. not just the foolish

  236. Brokenness of what it means to run from

  237. God and ignore God and leave God but

  238. what it means to have the

  239. joy of a loving gracious father after

  240. we've royally messed up our lives I want

  241. you to see this notice the precursor

  242. fill that in notice the precursor to the

  243. joy of the prodal return so there's

  244. something that comes before the joy and

  245. I want us to see it and it comes and we

  246. see it in verse 17 can you read the

  247. first line of 17 the the first phrase

  248. there of verse 17 out loud with me look

  249. what it says in verse 17 read it out

  250. loud but when he came to himself stop

  251. right there but when he came to

  252. himself it's like he was out of his mind

  253. he was out of his head and we know later

  254. from Romans and a lot of other passages

  255. that when we come to ourselves when we

  256. come to the what's the other way that we

  257. say that when we come to our

  258. senses when we come to our senses this

  259. is the grace and the mercy of God Amen

  260. working in our lives to help us to see

  261. reality

  262. because you see he wasn't living in

  263. reality he's blowing it all out he's

  264. taking it all in he's squandering

  265. everything that he has that's not

  266. reality that's not going to go on

  267. forever but Satan lies and we get

  268. deceived and our lust takes over and

  269. whether it's through workaholism or

  270. whether it's through sexuality or

  271. whether it's through anger or whether

  272. it's through unforgiveness or whatever

  273. it

  274. is

  275. we run

  276. from sanity in insanity and here we see

  277. that he's calling him God brings him

  278. look what it says when he came to

  279. himself he said and then he began to

  280. realize this so the first part is here a

  281. sinner realizes his rebellious desperate

  282. situation this is part of what happens

  283. when somebody gets saved they

  284. realize that they are lacking before God

  285. they realize that they're in trouble

  286. they realize that they have a

  287. problem I've shared with you many times

  288. that when I was in seminary I had a

  289. professor in fact he was the president

  290. of our Seminary his name was Dr Gray

  291. Allison and Dr Allison would he would

  292. teach a class on personal evangelism and

  293. he taught that class personally because

  294. he said this is perhaps the most

  295. important class in our school is that if

  296. you are teaching pastors to be pastors

  297. and you're not helping them have a

  298. burden for lost people and helping them

  299. know how to share the gospel with lost

  300. people then you're wasting your time we

  301. have plenty of pastors that lose the

  302. vision of the need for people to come to

  303. Christ so Dr Allison would teach that

  304. and he would look at us in his Louisiana

  305. accent and he'd say boys you got to get

  306. them lost before you can get them saved

  307. amen

  308. what does he mean by

  309. that you got to get them lost before you

  310. can get them saved what does he mean by

  311. that we have to realize that we have a

  312. problem we have to realize that we are

  313. sinners we have to realize that we have

  314. an offended we have offended a holy God

  315. we have to

  316. realize who Christ is and who we are

  317. not and so a sinner has to come to

  318. realize this now there are some there

  319. are some in this room that are running

  320. in their sin and they think they're just

  321. okay they are

  322. living without repentance before God

  323. with a hard

  324. heart maybe even look like a Christian

  325. smell like a Christian sort to act like

  326. a Christian but in their heart of hearts

  327. they know they're not surrendered to

  328. God and

  329. I pray that maybe through this message

  330. and through these passages of scripture

  331. that you would realize that you

  332. desperately need to come to grips with

  333. where you are or where you are not

  334. before

  335. God you need to come to the realization

  336. of who he is look what it says here um

  337. not only does he realize that but a

  338. sinner

  339. repents of his sin against God in others

  340. he repents of his sin against God and

  341. others and it's not just against God but

  342. it's against others don't flip the page

  343. yet I want you to look at this look what

  344. he says there in verse

  345. 18 I have sinned against

  346. heaven and before

  347. you now let me share with you a very

  348. personal aspect of this in my

  349. life when I was a senior in high school

  350. and I had grown up in this

  351. church I came under the conviction that

  352. I was not walking with

  353. God I was not living in submission to

  354. God seeking

  355. God and the Lord in his grace began to

  356. convict me of that reality that I was

  357. not living as a child of God for him and

  358. as that became more and more apparent

  359. that I had a heart

  360. problem I remember that I started to

  361. realize that it wasn't only against God

  362. that I was sinning but I was also

  363. sinning against everybody around

  364. me I started to realize I was sinning

  365. against clel and D Coleman my dad and my

  366. mom

  367. and as God convicted me of that and as I

  368. started to just by his grace come before

  369. God and say God I don't want to be this

  370. way I don't want to have such a hard

  371. heart I don't want to hear the gospel at

  372. Sheran Hill Sunday after Sunday after

  373. Sunday and see God moving in other

  374. people's lives and I don't want to be

  375. cut off from you in my

  376. selfishness and I just remember as I

  377. wept before God eventually

  378. I wept before my dad and I said dad I

  379. have sinned against

  380. you I've pushed back against

  381. you and Lord I and Dad I need your

  382. forgiveness too you see when we sin

  383. against God we're also sinning against

  384. others when we sin against others listen

  385. we are sinning against God Amen and so

  386. this is we we see this young man's

  387. coming to repentance and it's a very

  388. real repentance he recognizes he has

  389. sinned against Heaven God and he sinned

  390. against Earth now I want us to turn the

  391. focus here you can turn the page and see

  392. this this morning we come to also see

  393. and notice the theme of

  394. joy in this number two notice the theme

  395. of joy and I have a couple of long

  396. points here usually my points are pretty

  397. short but these are a little bit longer

  398. I want you to get into it I want you to

  399. read it I want you to get the whole

  400. point here notice the theme of joy that

  401. is repeated throughout Jesus's

  402. response to his hard-hearted religious

  403. listeners now do you have your Bible

  404. open look with Mary look with me there

  405. in um Luke 15 in Luke 15 notice that the

  406. whole chapter is devoted to speak

  407. speaking to this look at Luke 15 verse1

  408. now the tax collectors and sinners were

  409. all Drawing Near him are you in Luke

    Luke 15:1

  410. 15:1 look at verse two and the Pharisees

  411. and the scribes they did what they

  412. grumbled they grumbled saying this man

  413. receives Sinners and eats with

  414. them so Jesus is speaking to very

  415. religious people and he's declaring the

  416. kingdom of God to them and he uses

  417. Parables to help them see what he is

  418. saying and so here he starts off with a

  419. parable but notice this uh Point number

  420. two here is notice the theme of joy that

  421. is repeated throughout Jesus's response

  422. to his hard-hearted religious listeners

  423. they were sinfully prideful and

  424. self-righteous with fill it in no care

  425. they had no care that Sinners would

  426. repent and join the ranks of the

  427. redeemed

  428. Jesus was revealing the True Heart Of

  429. God towards Sinners it is his great

  430. joy when they are returned to him now

  431. the first Parable in this chapter fill

  432. it in is the parable of the lost sheep

  433. and you can read that in Luke 15: 1-5

  434. there's a Shepherd he has his whole

  435. flock but he realizes one of the sheep

  436. is missing and he says which one of you

  437. as a Shepherd would not go after the one

  438. you would go after the one you'd make

  439. sure that they're in an open field that

  440. they're they're safe here for a while

  441. and he's going to slip away and go look

  442. for this

  443. sheep and when he finds the Sheep I want

  444. you to look with me in Luke chapter 15

    Luke 15 chapter mention

  445. do you have your Bible open look at with

  446. me in verse 5 and when he has found it

  447. Luke 15 verse 5 and when he has found it

    Luke 15:5

  448. he lays it on his shoulders doing what

  449. reing rejoicing

  450. and when he comes home he calls together

  451. his friends and his neighbors saying to

  452. them Rejoice with me for I have found my

  453. sheep that was lost now look at verse

  454. seven just so I tell you there will be

  455. more joy where in heaven over one sinner

  456. who repents than over 99 righteous

  457. persons who need no repentance now the

  458. Jesus is saying here he's not giving

  459. giving leag to anyone who's saying well

  460. I don't need to repent we all need to

  461. repent we're sinful but there's a bunch

  462. of people who don't think that they need

  463. to repent that's who he was talking to

  464. and maybe some of those people are in

  465. this room too you know Baptists are real

  466. good like being self-righteous just like

  467. Jewish people from the first

  468. century we can look down our nose at a

  469. world that is lost we can look down our

  470. Lo nose and only

  471. condemn with no

  472. compassion but here we see Jes Jesus is

  473. pushing back against that and he's

  474. saying the father has a heart to save

  475. the father has a heart to rescue so

  476. there's not only the lost sheep that's

  477. in this chapter but also in this chapter

  478. there's the Lost coin it's the Lost coin

  479. a coin that was lost and look with me

  480. it's it's it's a very short one it's

  481. right after that in verse eight it says

  482. or what woman having 10 silver coins if

  483. she loses one coin does not like a lamp

  484. and sweep the house and seek diligently

  485. until she finds it and when she has

  486. found it she calls together her friends

  487. and her neighbors and says Rejoice with

  488. me for I have found the coin that I lost

  489. just so look what the verse 10 says just

  490. so I tell you that there is Joy before

  491. the angels of God when

  492. what one sinner who

  493. repents you see that this message that

  494. today as we're talking about Joy there

  495. is joy in

  496. missions there's tremendous joy in local

  497. missions there's tremendous joy in

  498. global missions because this is God's

  499. heart and then we've just

  500. read The Prodigal or the Lost filad in

  501. the lost

  502. son we see that this father is so

  503. Overjoyed he runs to his son he embrace

  504. rces him he kisses him he brings a ring

  505. to put on his F on his finger and a robe

  506. on his back now Jesus the perfect

  507. Creator God preacher is showing us this

  508. a ring represents Authority and the seal

  509. the Seal of God it's it represents the

  510. the representation of a covenant

  511. relationship and so for those who are

  512. married in this room you have a wedding

  513. band and it's the it's the ring it's the

  514. Seal of that Covenant so I want you to

  515. see here that here we see this father is

  516. saying this is my son as when we come to

  517. Faith in Jesus Christ we receive the

  518. Seal of the Holy Spirit and not only

  519. that but he says come and bring him the

  520. robe and put the robe on him you know

  521. Jesus talks about clothing us with a

  522. robe of

  523. righteousness and so the father of

  524. Heaven takes Sinners of Earth he clothes

  525. them with a robe of righteousness that

  526. comes from his son and he seals them

  527. with the Ring of the Holy Spirit

  528. declaring these are mine so this is a

  529. beautiful beautiful picture of God's

  530. rejoicing in his salvation look at with

  531. me at number three it is important to

  532. remember that parables are typically

  533. intended to teach teach one or two main

  534. concepts with all three of these

  535. Parables the lost sheep the Lost coin

  536. the lost son with all three of these

  537. prominently portraying the joy of read

  538. these three words out loud rescuing

  539. finding receiving that's what he does

  540. he's celebrating the rescue the finding

  541. the

  542. receiving that which is lost or was lost

  543. it is clear that Jesus wants us to

  544. vividly see the heart of joy that God

  545. has in fill it in

  546. regaining what is

  547. his he made it he created it he created

  548. you sin has poisoned it sin has pulled

  549. it away but when Jesus comes and he dies

  550. on the cross for our sins and when

  551. Sinners hear his voice repent of their

  552. sins and believe God is regaining what

  553. he has and the heavens

  554. Rejoice this is what God does and he has

  555. a heart of joy for it so you don't need

  556. to go into missions and think about

  557. missions with just a burden for the Lost

  558. listen you need to go with the joy of

  559. the

  560. father it's not only the burden of the

  561. lost it's the joy of the father it's

  562. knowing and looking into the eyes of

  563. people and seeing what they so

  564. desperately need

  565. and that the joy of the father can be

  566. theirs well how does he regain them it

  567. says that he was regaining what is his

  568. number four notice here how does Jesus

  569. regain them he regains them by he does

  570. this he redeems them and what does he

  571. what does it mean that he redeems them

  572. that means he buys them

  573. back and so missions is about the fact

  574. that Jesus has bought back his

  575. own look at this he purchases them with

  576. his own blood this is what the Messiah

  577. did he comes to buy us

  578. back from Satan and our

  579. sin look at First Peter 1: 18-19 and by

  580. the way there's several other passages

  581. there that say something very similar

  582. it'd be a great thing for you to do this

  583. week to go back and meditate on these

  584. passages look what it says there as he

  585. purchases back in verse 18 it says for

  586. you know that it was not with perishable

  587. things such as silver or gold that you

  588. were what redeemed from the empty way of

  589. life handed down to you from your

  590. ancestors verse 19 but you were

  591. purchased with the precious blood of

  592. Christ a lamb without blemish or

  593. defect this is what he does he redeems

  594. us

  595. in his great

  596. love notice number five notice the great

  597. motivation of Christ endurance in

  598. suffering and sacrifice on the cross you

  599. see it was for the joy of his coming

  600. glory and our Salvation now there's a

  601. key passage here that is Hebrews 12: 1

  602. and 2 this is such a key passage for for

  603. any Christian to understand and see

  604. notice this in verse one the writer of

  605. Hebrews writes therefore since we are

  606. surrounded by so great a cloud of

  607. witnesses let us also lay aside every

  608. weight in sin which clings so closely

  609. look what it says let us run with

  610. endurance the race that is set before us

  611. looking to who to Jesus look at verse

  612. two looking to Jesus the founder and the

  613. perfector of our faith and then here it

  614. is who for the

  615. joy that was set before him endured the

  616. cross endured the cross despising the

  617. shame and is seated at the right hand of

  618. the Throne of God now I will I will just

  619. never

  620. forget the day that that verse two

  621. finally hit home to

  622. me I was in Seminary and I was studying

  623. Hebrew by the way um as you look at the

  624. book of Hebrews it's written to people

  625. that are from a Hebrew background but

  626. it's also translated into Aramaic and

  627. it's also in Greek and it's in Latin and

  628. as I started to study this and look at

  629. this I started to see that what this is

  630. saying is is that

  631. you if you're in Christ are what was on

  632. his mind

  633. when he went to the

  634. Cross when he went to the Cross he was

  635. thinking

  636. about your salvation and listen to this

  637. his glory in Saving you you see he

  638. receives glory in Saving you so it's a

  639. it's a two-way thing here he is

  640. glorified and you are

  641. saved this is amazing and so even though

  642. he as the sinless Son of God humbles

  643. himself ultimate humility to where he

  644. lays down and allows nails to be driven

  645. through his feet and his hands in even

  646. though this sinless son of God is being

  647. lifted up as a representation of sin and

  648. he takes the sin of the world upon

  649. himself he

  650. endures the most

  651. mindblowing confusion the most mind

  652. mind-blowing illogical thing in the

  653. world that a holy God would become

  654. sinful he endures the cross for his

  655. glory and you're

  656. good I want you to see this here fill it

  657. in his great joy is to save sinners from

  658. sin thereby

  659. revealing his

  660. love grace and

  661. mercy you see this reveals just how

  662. loving he is this reveals just how

  663. gracious he is this reveals just how

  664. merciful he is his

  665. love grace and mercy lastly I want us to

  666. see

  667. here if this is God's joy if this is

  668. God's joy then it should also be our joy

  669. does that make sense if it's God's joy

  670. to save people and to work in that

  671. shouldn't it be our joy when God is

  672. saving people amen now you we can't say

  673. if it's God's joy to save people then it

  674. should be your joy to save people well

  675. the problem is you can't save

  676. anyone occasionally some well-meaning

  677. person will come to me um after starting

  678. point and being here a few weeks or

  679. whatever and maybe they come to Faith In

  680. Jesus because they've heard the gospel

  681. and I'm it's happened right here and

  682. it's happened in other place happened

  683. over at the church office somebody comes

  684. up and says well Pastor I'm so glad um

  685. since you saved me everything has been

  686. really very very different and and I'm

  687. like whoa you know I'm like stepping

  688. back I don't want lightning to

  689. hit I didn't save anybody I can't even

  690. save

  691. myself there's only one

  692. Savior and that's the sinless Son of God

  693. who died on the cross for our sins

  694. right the only one and so but the

  695. well-meaning person is saying

  696. Everything's changed and and so when we

  697. look at what God is doing and saving

  698. people shouldn't that be our

  699. joy you don't have to look at missions

  700. you don't have to look at praying for

  701. Mission you don't have to look at giving

  702. toward missions as an

  703. obligation merely as a command but we

  704. should begin to see here that this is

  705. the joy of God to save the world

  706. this is the joy of

  707. Christ that Hebrews passage for the joy

  708. set before him he endured the cross for

  709. the joy of God's glory can you live your

  710. life even though sometimes we're dealing

  711. with broken bones and we're dealing with

  712. mistakes that we've made and we're

  713. dealing with hardness and we're dealing

  714. with all kinds of things that we

  715. struggle

  716. with we can live for him notice this and

  717. fill this in in the parable of the

  718. Prodigal Son the son's

  719. Joy comes from the father's Joy I want

  720. you to think about that the son who

  721. finally comes

  722. home he comes home repentant and sad he

  723. comes home realizing that he has sinned

  724. against heaven and he sinned against his

  725. father and then what does he see he sees

  726. the joy of the father he sees the grace

  727. listen the grace the forgiveness of the

  728. father and as he sees the joy and the

  729. grace and the forgiveness and the

  730. blessing of the father how does he begin

  731. to

  732. feel

  733. joyful I mean this is what happens

  734. there's there's over and over and over

  735. again when people have come to Faith In

  736. Jesus one of the things that they talk

  737. about is the great burden I felt lifted

  738. off my shoulders when I no longer bear

  739. my sin but I realize that Christ bore it

  740. for me that he has forgiven me he's

  741. cleansing me he said I remember this no

  742. more you're mine

  743. now you see the son's Joy comes from the

  744. father's

  745. Joy what if the father had not was not

  746. glad to see him return what would that

  747. be

  748. like imagine his shock to see his father

  749. run to him with tears of

  750. joy and gladness

  751. well do you remember the other brother

  752. in the

  753. story what was his attitude toward the

  754. father's

  755. Joy the other brother resented the

  756. father's joy in saving them you know we

  757. could call this the Jonah effect do you

  758. remember the little prophet Jonah Jonah

  759. was told go preach to the people at

  760. Nineveh your enemy and Jonah didn't even

  761. say no he just ran down to the Sea got

  762. on a ship headed the opposite direction

  763. of n

  764. he didn't even give God the courtesy of

  765. saying I don't want to do that or I'm

  766. not going to do that he just ran well

  767. God can take care of everything Jonah

  768. gets thrown in the water and fish comes

  769. and gets him takes him over there and at

  770. the end of Jonah's life Jonah is still

  771. still

  772. resentful he said God if you sent me to

  773. preach to my enemies knowing you you'd

  774. probably grant them forgiveness and

  775. repentance and that they would be saved

  776. you see Jonah was like the second

  777. brother

  778. friends we shouldn't be like the second

  779. brother we shouldn't be like

  780. Jonah when God puts us on a

  781. mission we should fulfill that

  782. mission we should

  783. obey his call and we should do it listen

  784. to this with the joy of the

  785. father we should gladly give our lives

  786. we should L gladly give our talents we

  787. should gladly give all that we

  788. have for his joy in saving people

  789. because this is what he has done finally

  790. notice here the

  791. application my prayer is may we share

  792. the Heavenly father's

  793. Zeal and gladness for the Salvation of

  794. Sinners I mean there should be nothing

  795. that excites us

  796. more you know occasionally occasionally

  797. um someone will come to Faith In Jesus

  798. here and um and one of the pastors or

  799. myself somebody will say hey this is

  800. really really great and we'll we'll call

  801. somebody over and say you're not gonna

  802. believe what just happened hey would you

  803. like to tell these people what happened

  804. um yes I just received Christ as my Lord

  805. and Savior I I've just repented of my

  806. sins and I I I did it and occasionally

  807. somebody from Sheron Hills would go oh

  808. that's

  809. nice and then where do you where are you

  810. guys going for

  811. lunch we should

  812. rejoice when people get

  813. saved the heavens are rejoicing the

  814. angels are rejoicing God is rejoicing

  815. does it matter to you that people get

  816. saved I mean well we should share God's

  817. joy in that notice the next part here

  818. may we faithfully and joyfully join him

  819. in his work of saving

  820. sinners now again we can't save them but

  821. we can tell them and he can save them

  822. that's our job he's told us to go and

  823. tell if you'll go and tell I'll save

  824. them and so that's what we are called to

  825. do maybe it's putting a little stand of

  826. Bibles in front of your street and when

  827. God starts to open a door because I'm

  828. sure that there'll be opportunities as

  829. the years go by that God opens the door

  830. as we pray as we talk as we live before

  831. our I know that many of you have many

  832. family members that do not know the Lord

  833. and you've shared with me with others

  834. our pastors and other people in your

  835. community group how hard it is to be a

  836. Christian in your family

  837. and you're praying for them I want to

  838. just say to you we We join God in his

  839. work in family and friends work

  840. neighbors maybe it's across the

  841. world finally for those of you in this

  842. room maybe maybe came here for the first

  843. time today if you have never come home

  844. to God like this prodical son did if you

  845. have never come home to God by

  846. repentance faith I invite you to do that

  847. today I invite you to humble yourself

  848. before God and this is what you can say

  849. to him when we

  850. pray Lord God in heaven I have sinned

  851. against you and I have sinned against

  852. others and God I

  853. ask that you would forgive

  854. me and have me back as your son or as

  855. your

  856. daughter friends God has called us to

  857. rejoice in what he's doing amen would

  858. you stand with me for prayer
