The Amazing Resurrection | Luke 24 | Pastor Andrew Coleman | April 20, 2025

we're going to go straight into the

title of the message today And I want

you to see this um as you hopefully have

a sermon outline in your bulletin There

is a sermon outline So go straight into

the title of the message today um about

Jesus and the resurrection So this

morning we're going to be looking at one

whole chapter of the Bible and it's the

message is entitled the amazing

resurrection Now I love this message I

love this message Um I have preached it

before um to a group of students and um

the reason I love this message

especially at Easter time is we get to

catch not only the resurrection but that

first Easter day and the whole day um

that we see with the disciples there and

um I hope and pray that this is a true

blessing to you um as we come this

morning now once again as we oh here's

my notes I was about to say we're we're

uh four for four Okay Or Okay Um I do

have my

notes This morning as we come to this

Easter

day there was a darkness that came

before this

time Jesus observed the Lord's supper He

observed the last Passover supper And

then he left that supper and went to the

garden of Gethsemane to

pray And it was there in that garden of

Gethsemane the greatest anguish that the

world has ever known was

experienced by the son of God

It was there that the task before him

was so great and so

dreadful that even the second person of

the

trinity in submission to the father

asked if this

cup would be delivered from him

Lord let this cup pass from me but

nevertheless not my will but thine be

done So we see within the trinity the

father son and the spirit We see within

the trinity the perfect

relationship The father submitting and

loving the son submitting him to the

world the son submitting to the will of

the father the spirit empowering the son

This is a beautiful picture But this was

Thursday night of Holy

Week Then what happens at the end of

that prayer time they stand up from

praying and here comes

who

judas Judas with Roman soldiers He is

delivered into the hands of the Romans

And that night is a very very long night

where he is tortured He is taken from

palace to a courtroom and he is harassed

and

heranged And then we would also see that

he is betrayed by all of his followers

Not one stands with him The one that

would have been closest one of the ones

closest to him Peter James and John

Peter was standing at a distance and

Peter denied that he even knew him

cursed and denied that he knew him I

hear a few son cell phones going off If

you would go ahead and take out your

cell phone right now Would you please do

that go ahead and take out your cell

phone and make sure it's silent Can you

do that go ahead and take it out Take it

out Make sure it's silent Go ahead and

do that If you don't know how to do that

put it under your heel and just smash

it That would be a help for us You know

every time when you come into this room

it's good to just take out your cell

phone and silence it My mom and dad said

"We don't know how to silence it so we

leave it in the car." So you know we're

here for God There's nothing more

important

So

Thursday the next day on Friday after

the trials and the

mockings Jesus Christ is crucified for

our

sins He hangs on a Roman cross

It begins

at 9:00 in the morning the third

hour and it continues until the 9inth

hour which is about 3:00 in the

afternoon And it says that he cries out

"It is

finished." And he gives up his life

Now what's very interesting to

me is that at the third

hour do you know what was going on in

the temple just a few meters

away the final Passover

lamb was being slain in the temple

Thousands and thousands of animals would

have been slain as people brought their

sacrifices to the temple every Passover

But then there was the final Passover

lamb that was slain

So the religious system was busy doing

their

thing in all of their eventual

misunderstanding while the real thing

was dying outside the city

gates on a Roman cross

Jesus was taken down from the cross by a

rich man named Joseph of

Arythea And Joseph put him in a tomb

that was there very close by just not

far from the hill of

Goltha And it was there inside that tomb

that Jesus was laid And there he laid

through the day on the evening of Friday

through Saturday And then we come to the

events of Luke 24 Do you have your

outline there take your pen and be ready

with me I love these images I've

included these images to help us this

morning to take in this chap this

chapter And I believe that you will be

blessed as we do the resurrection Look

at verse one with me But on the first

day of the week at early dawn they went

to the tomb taking the spices they had

prepared Now who is they it's a group of

women We're about to see them listed

here in just a minute Verse two And they

found the stone rolled away from the

tomb But when they went in they did not

find the body of the Lord Jesus While

they were perplexed about this behold

two men stood by them in dazzling

appearance Verse 5 And they were

frightened and bowed their faces to the

ground in the mid said to them "Why do

you seek the living among the

dead he is not here but has risen."

Remember how he told you while he was

still in Galilee verse 7 that the son of

man must be delivered into the hands of

sinful men and be crucified and on the

third day rise Verse eight and they

remembered his words and returning from

the tomb they told all the things to the

11 and to all of the rest Now it was

Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the

mother of James and the other women with

them who told these things to who to the

apostles So the first passage that we

started this service with Pastor Jason

read it You saw it on of course this

screen over here the the first passage

talked about when Peter and John got to

the tomb Well guys that's that's a

little bit later than this text So these

women go and tell the apostles he's not

there And Peter and John go "What what

do you

mean?" And if you read the text and John

Peter and John are going and John was

younger He runs on ahead

He gets there and finally Peter gets

there and they stick their heads in and

that's what we read at the beginning of

the service Now we see what had happened

before that So notice that there with

me and now verse 10 And now it was Mary

Magdalene Joanna and Mary the mother of

James and the other women women with

them who told these things to the

apostles But these words seemed an idol

tale and they did not believe

them But Peter rose and ran to the tomb

stooping and looking in he saw the linen

cloths by

themselves And he went home marveling at

what happened Can you circle that word

marveling marveling at what happened do

you see do you see the title of the

message today what are we what are we

calling this what kind of resurrection

the

amazing revel

resurrection When we think about

marveling when we we think about

something being marvelous that means it

causes you to consider it

deeply It causes you to be amazed by

it It's a wonder

It's like it's how could this be

true this is very often we would also

associate with something positive that

it's too good to be true But

again thank God that is not There's many

things that we could get from these

first 12 verses but I just want to give

you two Can you look over there at the

right hand side underneath that picture

of those women whatever it would have

looked like Um but but we see at first

and in other places Mary Magdalene Mary

mother of James and Salomi um are

mentioned Joanna is mentioned but but

notice this in verse 6 and 7 I want us

to notice something It says these are

the two these are angels in dazzling

appearance These are the two men in

dazzling appearance telling them in

verse 6 he is not here but he has re

risen

Remember how he told you

This is amazing Remember how he told you

See what I want us to see here The first

thing is notice that this was all God's

plan Fill that in This was God's

plan The whole plan of salvation was

God's plan and it was before the

foundation of the world But notice here

with me Jesus foretold his

death numerous times He foretold his

death and his resurrection But just in

Luke alone we see it in Luke 9:21 Luke

Luke 9:21 Luke 9:43

9:43 Luke

Luke 18:31

18:31 Luke is telling that he is going

to die He said Jesus is telling that

he's going to die Luke records it But

what's interesting is Matthew and Mark

also record all three of those

foretellings of his death

You see there's some people that come to

the Bible with some misunderstanding of

something along the lines of open

theology The idea that God is figuring

all this out as we are He's just doing

it in his godly way No friends listen

God is not figuring anything out God has

a plan And that plan was before the

foundation of the world that he would

show us what love looks like And he

would show us that in our need he has

this plan In Revelation chapter write

this down Revelation

Revelation 13:8

13:8 It says before the foundation of

the world God had determined his eternal

plan to sacrifice the son In Acts 2:23

Acts 2:23

write that down Acts 2:23 and Acts

Acts 2:23 Acts 4:28

4:28 Over and over again we see that

before the foundation of the world

before this was all started it was God's

plan to show us his love by redeeming us

through the

Messiah So this is this is just as

amazing as the resurrection itself that

God has a great and glorious plan He has

a plan for your life

And I pray that you will listen to his

voice and hear his plan Number two I

want us to see something interesting And

it's in verse 11 Do you see verse 11

over there on the side it says "But

these words these words that the angels

had spoke to them these words seemed to

them what does it say there

an idol tale." So the

apostles are hearing the women say "His

body is gone Um he's risen And there's

they're telling "We saw these two dudes

in white dazzling appearance They told

us,"Wh do you seek the living among the

dead he's not dead He's alive." And the

apostles are just looking and

listening They're amazed by

this And look what it says But these

words seemed an idol tale Underline that

and they did not believe

them You'd say "Wow great

apostles Those are the guys that you

know changed the world through

Jesus." Yeah You see number two is this

Unbelief sometimes comes before

belief Unbelief sometimes comes before

belief There's two ways in which this is

important for us right now There are

some in this room that have never come

to the place of believing in Jesus as

the Messiah as the son of God who pays

for the sins of the world That all who

would come to him and place their trust

in him that he would be their savior be

because he was crucified He was laid in

a tomb and he rose again overcoming sin

and death And all who place their trust

in him who believe in him can have

eternal life There's some in this room

that say "I just don't buy it

I've not come to that place I have too

many

doubts Can I say that in a in a

gracefilled

way it's

okay The apostles felt that way

too Even the

apostles felt that way

too Even the apostles who had seen him

do all this

stuff had felt that way too

They had heard him warn them "I'm going

to be crucified." They heard him say

"I'm going to be put to death." They had

heard him say "I will be crucified but I

will rise again." And yet they still did

not

believe We're going to see something

very powerful in a few more verses from

here but I just want to say to you

unbelief often comes before belief

And I pray that you'll see that and hear

that this morning and allow God to work

in your mind and your heart Well we come

to scene number two and this is

something called the road to Emmas Now

Emmas is interesting It's a town um not

too far away from Jerusalem In fact I

want you to see on our one side over

here Um I'm always wondering should I

use this screen or should I use this

screen and now I know which screen to

use So Jerusalem is here Um not far from

the Dead Sea not far from the

Mediterranean Sea Um in the news Gaza is

down here Gaza Strip is down on this

side Um but here we see Jerusalem And

here is Bethl Emmas And you see this

road that's right here Now what's really

interesting about this road it's about 7

and 12 miles long which means it's about

a 3-hour walk um that is there Remember

that Jerusalem is on a mountain It's not

a like a big mountain like even a North

Carolina mountain It's it's a it's a

large hill But whenever you read in the

Bible it says we're going up to

Jerusalem That's not talking about north

or south That's talking about elevation

And so the temple of God was up on the

hill up on the top of the hill This was

Mount Mariah This is the place of

sacrifice This is the place of worship

And Jerusalem was built on that holy

hill But so notice this They're up on

that So they're going down They're going

north but they're going down to Bethl

Emmas That road right there And this is

interesting is if you go to the Holy

Land today and you walk on some of the

roads that are there when you get just

outside of Jerusalem and you're walking

on the Emmus road you're walking on the

original Roman stones that the Romans

had cut and laid for that road And it is

safe to say if you go from Jerusalem any

part of it along that line if you go on

any part of that and you walk on those

stones you're literally walking on

stones that Jesus did walk

on It's kind of

cool Marcy and I have walked on the

Emmas road before and um it's uh it's a

neat thing to think that Jesus walked on

this road with these two men Let's read

the story here This is verse 13 So this

is a little bit later in the same day

And notice what it says That very day So

what is that this is resurrection Sunday

That very day two of them So two of

these that had been following Jesus Two

of them were going to a village named

Emmas about 7 miles from Jerusalem And

they were talking with each other about

all the things that had happened While

they were walking talking and discussing

together Jesus himself drew near and

went with them But their eyes were kept

from recognizing him And he said to them

"What is this conversation that you are

holding with each other as you talk as

you walk?" And they stood still and sa

looking sad Then one of them named

Cleopus answered him "Are you the only

visitor in Jerusalem does not know the

things that have

happened there in these days?" So

they're walking along and Jesus says

"Why are you guys talking about this

stuff why are you sad?" And they

stop They sto it says they stood

there and they turn and they look at

this guy and they go "Are you the only

person around here that doesn't know

what just happened?" I mean because all

of Jerusalem was it on Palm Sunday all

of Jerusalem was saying "Hosana hosana

to the King of Kings Lord of Lords." And

then just a couple of days later all of

those who seemingly believe because they

were looking for an earthly Messiah And

when Jesus apparently wasn't going to be

the earthly Messiah and he apparently

now is about to be crucified what do

they they think "Oh he's a fraud Crucify

him."

And so the crowd so quickly and fickle

turns upon Jesus But there were

some who were going

"No I something's wrong here I I saw

what he did I know I listened to him I

followed him I saw him raise that little

girl from the

dead This can't be true." So they're

walking along They're in anguish They're

trying to figure out what

happened Passover is over and they're

going back to

Emmas Verse

19 And he said to them "What things?"

And they said to him "Concerning Jesus

of Nazareth a man who was a prophet

mighty indeed and a word before God and

all the people." Well you see they they

largely had

it They they saw it Verse 20 And how our

chief priests and rulers delivered him

up to be condemned to death and

crucified

him Verse 21 But we had hoped that he

was the one to redeem

Israel Yes And besides all this it's now

the third day since these things

happened

Moreover some women of our company

amazed us They were at the tomb early in

the morning And when they did not find

his body they came back saying that they

had even seen a vision of angels who

said that he was alive Some of those who

were with us went to the tomb and found

it just as the women said but him they

did not

see And he said to them "Oh foolish ones

and slow of heart to believe all that

the prophets have

spoken Was it not necessary for the

Christ that means Messiah the chosen one

was it not necessary for the Christ

should suffer these things and enter

into his glory?" So that's the first

part of this walk that I want us to look

at here Before we turn the page notice

this Number one notice that God comes

and walks with us in our sorrow struggle

and doubt I believe that part of the

reason that the gospels include the Holy

Spirit inspired Luke to include the

story of the Emmas road is so that we

could see that in our struggles in our

pain in our doubt sometimes Jesus is

walking alongside us and we don't even

realize it's

him We don't realize he's there We kind

of don't don't see And sometimes it

could be like a

literal certainly an angel of some sort

or God's orchestration of a set of

events that you don't realize are from

him But surely by his spirit he is with

us in our doubt He is with us in our

sorrow And we see that idea in this text

You see this is a very important piece

of real estate in the Bible I mean this

is the last chapter of the book of Luke

This is the last part of it And this is

important enough to be included by the

Holy Spirit for us to see that Jesus

took out his time This is how he planned

to spend part of his resurrection day In

fact a large portion of his resurrection

day was going to go be with those who

didn't

understand and that were in

sorrow and that were toying with doubt

And as only Jesus could do in his

prophetic way in his bold

way he says "Oh foolish ones," look at

verse 25 "Oh foolish ones and slow of

heart to believe all that the prophets

have spoken Was it not necessary that

the Christ should suffer these things

and enter into his glory?" You see part

of what he's saying is is that hey guys

you don't understand You really don't

get it You still haven't seen and

listened to God You haven't listened to

what he said in his word the Messiah is

going to come and

suffer This is powerful for us Number

two

um look at verse 21 Look at verse 21 The

guys are speaking and they're explaining

this to Jesus And they they explain in

verse 20 how our chief priests and

rulers delivered him up to be condemned

to death and then they crucified him And

then look at verse 21

But we had hoped that he was the one to

redeem

Israel Now in a way what they hoped for

was right but in a way it was

wrong What they had in their mind is

what everybody else had in their mind

was "We hate the Romans We want to get

rid of the Romans We want the Romans to

no longer rule over

us and we want to be delivered in this

earthly

affair But that's that's not what God

God's plan is so much bigger than the

Romans God is saying your real problem

is not the Romans Your real problem is

your sin and your rendevous with hell if

you don't have a

Messiah What God is saying is you have

the Romans are nothing

The one that you should fear is

me whom

after you are dead I can separate you

forever You say "Well that that's

abrasive to me That's Listen it's just

the reality of the scripture and it's

the reality of God's plan that he really

does come to save us He really does

offer to us eternal life." And so we see

here that sometimes we hope for the

wrong things Just fill that in Sometimes

we hope for the wrong things They were

looking for an earthly

deliverance Some people are hoping that

God will make them

wealthy Some people are hoping that God

will make them

healthy Some people are hoping that God

will give them back something that they

lost And they're looking to the things

of this world When the Bible and all of

the gospel is calling us to lift up our

eyes to eternity to lift up our eyes

beyond this 60 70 80 90 years and to

look to the things that really

matter for all of eternity And this is

why sometimes we hope for the wrong

things Oh he did come to redeem Israel

but he didn't come just to redeem Israel

He came to redeem Israel and all of

those who are grafted in in the family

of God to the people of God and to

deliver them for eternity from their

sins not

from a group of Roman

oppressors Number three we see something

else that I think is important for us on

this Easter Sunday Number

three Christ suffered for our salvation

He suffered for our salvation And he

suffered unlike anyone has ever suffered

in this room because he who is holy had

the sin of the world laid upon him Don't

turn the sheet over Look here at the

bottom of page 26 I mean the verse

26 He says in verse 25 "Oh foolish ones

and soul of heart to believe all that

the prophets have spoken." And then he

asks a question as he so often does

Verse 26 Was it not what is that word

there

necessary Can you circle the word

necessary was it not necessary that the

Christ should suffer these

things and enter into his

glory well why was it necessary it was

necessary because this goes back to the

point number one and scene one This was

the plan of God the plan in order for us

to see his love for

us to see what grace and mercy look

like that the perfect one would come and

die for the sinful ones Can you flip the

sheet let's go on with the story of

these guys with

Emmas What it says after he said that is

did you know do you do you not see that

was this was necessary look what goes on

Luke says in verse 27 "And beginning

with Moses." Now by that Moses put up

there above that that is the first five

books of the Bible So that's Genesis

Exodus Leviticus Numbers and Deuteronomy

That's called Moses All right so that's

the first five books of the Old

Testament That's the law You can put up

there the law Okay and beginning with

all of all of Moses's words in the law

And then look at the next part and all

the

prophets He interpreted to them in all

the scriptures the things concerning who

himself This is

amazing And if there's possibly any part

of the teaching that Jesus that the

Bible tells us that Jesus taught while

on the earth if there was any part of

the teaching I would love to have heard

it probably would have been this talk

where Jesus is walking and we don't know

when this happened in the course but how

long is the walk over three hours

They're walking for three hours So it's

possible that for hours they heard

Jesus tell them "Don't you know that the

Messiah is in the Old Testament here the

Messiah is here The Messiah is here The

Messiah is here The Messiah is here This

is this is what was happening This is

what God was doing all through This is

why the Old Testament is so important to

you You should not write off the Old

Testament Sure there's parts of it that

are thick and sure it requires a little

bit of ramp up But I want to say to you

if you will begin to see how the Old

Testament

fits you will be

blessed Notice this as we go on You

see number four is this The Old

Testament all points to

Jesus The Old Testament all points to

Jesus Now I I want us to go on and I

want us to see what happens here Look at

verse 28 They're on their walk So he's

talking all this time explaining to them

how the Messiah is throughout the Old

Testament and and being revealed Verse

28 So they drew near to the village to

which they were

going He acted as if he was going

further That's so strange Verse 29 But

they urged him strongly saying "Stay

with us for it is toward evening and the

day is now far spent." So he went in to

stay with them And while he was at the

table with them he took the bread and

blessed it and broke it and gave it to

them Verse 31 read it out loud And their

eyes were opened and they recognized

him That is so

cool And then look at the next

part And he vanished from their sight

Boom And you know they're looking at

each other and they're like "I knew it

I knew it I I I you know but they didn't

know it until he opened their

eyes And here's the reason We see this

in verse 32 I love this And they said to

each other "Did not our hearts burn with

us while we while he talked to us on the

road while he opened to us the

scriptures?"

For the Christians in this room does

God's word sometimes burn within you are

you just amazed by it

are there some times when you're reading

the scripture and you go "That is so

amazing That is so

beautiful That is so

convicting Oh the beauty of the way God

works and what he does within

us." Look at that Did not our hearts

burn within us while he talked with us

on the road while he opened to us the

scriptures Verse 33 And they rose that

same hour and returned to Jerusalem Now

what do we know about that same hour

they were sitting there having dinner

What did they already say it's getting

dark You know the day is gone They've

had dinner with Jesus And so it's safe

to say that these guys are getting on

the road and they're heading back to

Jerusalem to all their friends What does

that mean they're walking in the dark

That is something you did not do in that

day and time There were no sodium ver

sodium sodium vapor mercury lights or

whatever um lining the road to

Emmas It was dark and they were so

excited They they said "We're going

back." Verse 33 And they rose that very

hour that same hour and returned

Jerusalem And they found the 11 and

those who were with them gathered

together saying look at verse 34 The

Lord has risen

indeed and has appeared to Simon Then

they told what had happened on the road

and how he was known to them in the

breaking of the bread

You see all of the Old Testament points

to Jesus And we're going to see another

point in that that is also down here So

we're going to come back up there in

just a

minute So they go back They're back in

Jerusalem And then look what happens

Verse

36 And as they were talking about these

things Jesus himself stood among them

and said to them "Peace to you." Now

it's a really good thing that he said

peace to you because they're all sitting

there talking about this under candle

light and lanterns The upper area where

they are is probably packed with people

In other gospels it says that they were

meeting together and they were afraid

because they didn't know what was going

to happen with the Romans They didn't

know what was going to happen with the

Jews They they weren't sure exactly

about all of that But here they were the

apostles all together with some of the

women and they're gathering together

These two guys come in from Emmas It's

late at night and they're saying it's

really true We saw him And then all of a

sudden just as he had vanished from

Emmas I don't know where he went during

that time We can ask him when we get

there Boom He he pops back in Now he

wasn't doing this kind of thing while he

was in his earthly

ministry But now that he has died and

risen again we start to see that he is

now more reflecting the traits of the

Holy Spirit though still in bodily form

He is Jesus in this But we start to see

the way he's working and the way he's

going to work in their lives through the

spirit

Notice what it says there He says "Peace

to you." Um but they were startled and

frightened and thought they had seen a

ghost a

spirit Verse 38 And he said to them "Why

are you troubled and why do doubts arise

in your heart see my hands and my

feet that it is I

myself Touch me and see For a spirit

does not have flesh and bones as you see

that I have And when he had said this he

showed them his hands and his feet And

while they still

disbelieved for joy and were marveling

he said to them "Have you anything here

to eat?" And they give him gave him a

piece of broiled fish And he took it and

he ate before them Look at this verse 44

Then he said to them "These are my words

that I spoke to you while I was still

with you that everything written about

me in the law of Moses and the prophets

and the psalms must be what fulfilled."

And so the law of Moses the prophets and

the psalms were all pointing to the fact

that he

would be the sacrifice for our sins That

he would

die Verse 45 I love it Can you read it

out loud then he opened their minds to

understand the scriptures Oh that

God would open your mind to understand

the scripture

I want you to see here number one over

there to the

side God opens hearts and minds to

believe in him

This is a sovereign act of God

This is put it down there below that

This is the

gift of

faith You see you can't even claim your

great faith because it didn't come from

you It came from God Even faith is a

gift from

God This is how good God is We It's not

just that we're drowning in the pool

We're on the bottom And he comes and

brings us up to the surface and he gives

us life He gives us

faith We see it in verse 31 and 32 up in

with the road to Emmas Guys look up the

top up there in verse 31 Do you remember

with me they're at the table He blesses

it He breaks the bread in verse 30 And

he gave it to them Verse 31 You had read

it just a minute ago Look what it says

and their eyes were opened and they

recognized

him You see that's what God does He

opened to them the scriptures And here

we see that he tells them down in verse

45 that he is the one who opens our

minds to the scriptures Look with

me in verse 46 And he said to them "Thus

it is written that the Christ should

suffer and on the third day rise from

the dead and that," look at verse 47

"and that repentance for the forgiveness

of sins should be proclaimed in his name

to all

nations." Wow There's the great

commission and there's the great call to

repentance That repentance for the

forgiveness of sins

You see some people will never be

forgiven because they will never repent

of their

sins They will never come to the place

of turning away from sin and self and

turning to Christ and saying "Christ you

and you alone not me and not what I want

but what you

want." There's some who love their sin

too

much to do that There's some

who

refuse submission to

Christ They will not

repent God calls us to repent My friend

I would say this to you today If you

hear his voice this morning saying "Come

and repent and believe." Johnny Perez

gave a testimony that uh at the beach

his was and he usually sits right over

here with these guys He was over here on

a Wednesday

night and the message that we were

preaching we were preaching about some

various issues and one of them was

something that touched on his heart and

he realized at that moment I must repent

of this and come to

Christ My friend don't turn those calls

away when you hear God's voice calling

you to repent

repent and believe because that's where

faith begins is God gives the grace to

repent In Romans it says "Do you not

know that it is the kindness of God that

leads you to

repentance?" It's the kindness of God

that leads you to repentance Why would

you turn him

away look what it says

there And to believe in him because

that's what Jesus came teaching in Mark

Mark 1 · chapter mention

chapter 1 Jesus said "Repent and believe

the gospel." I'll I'll just share this

with you Um three or four years ago um

we did the Easter sunrise service And I

was there and I we we sang the gospel Uh

we heard somebody give a testimony and I

preached the gospel and I quoted from

Mark and I was saying "Friends I call

you to repent of your sins and turn to

Christ believe on the gospel Well by the

time I got back here to the church I

received a long email and somehow I had

checked my email and it was somebody who

said "It's too bad Pastor Coleman that

you preached a false gospel at the

beach You're saying that repentance is

necessary for

salvation It's only grace It's just

grace It's grace and grace alone There's

nothing else There's nothing that is

there And there you It's only grace that

can save us I hope you will stop telling

people that they need to

repent And I said "My friend you need to

go read Mark chapter 1 and Jesus's first

Mark 1 · chapter mention

words of preaching the gospel."

The first thing that Jesus preached

was repent and

believe You

see the kindness of God leads us to

repentance So when you start to see your

sin and start to see that you need to

turn away from it you turn away from it

and you turn to God And that is the

grace of God It is God's grace in

leading you to

repentance And it's God's grace that

gives you the faith to believe But my

friends there is no

salvation without repentance of

sin So if there's no repentance in your

heart then you need not wonder If

there's been no repentance in your heart

you do not know Jesus

Christ and you are still in your sins

So the beautiful thing is is that he

leads us to

repentance and he calls us to believe

and when we repent of our sins and

finally come to that place of offloading

all of the weight and the guilt of our

sin and recognizing that it's on Jesus

that we rejoice And that's where this

leads to I want you to see this here in

verse 48 It goes on It says "And you are

witnesses of these things and behold I

am sending the promise of my father upon

you." You know what the promise of his

father is this is the Holy Spirit The

spirit is promised to come to us I'm

sending the promise of my father upon

you but stay in the city until you are

clothed with power from on high Put down

there to the bottom the Holy Spirit

That's what was about to happen The Holy

Spirit was about to come from come to

them

And so Jesus is perfectly telling us

listen the Bible fits together like lock

and key Don't believe the people on

YouTube that are all confused about that

They don't know They haven't studied it

They don't really know what it says But

when you start to put together how

beautiful God's grand and glorious plan

both logically and scripturally and when

you start to study and see what it

actually says it fits together like lock

and key

You can trust

it Look at verse 50 We come to the

ascension Verse 15 And he led them out

as far as Bethany lifting up his hands

he blessed them Verse 51 While he

blessed them he parted from them and was

carried up into heaven Verse 52 And they

worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem

Read it out loud together They returned

to Jerusalem with great joy and were

continually in the temple blessing God I

want you to see that the whole gospel

ends up in this that God's salvation

brings great

joy God's salvation will give you a joy

that the world can never give you Those

things young per people that you think

that you got to have in your life that

you want to build in your life the

sports or the money or the education or

the relationship Listen there's nothing

that's going to fulfill you and satisfy

you like the joy of knowing

God through Jesus

Christ Friends this is what Easter

Sunday is about This is the reason

there's joy

Not only can he give you

joy in eternity but listen he can give

you joy

now He can give you victory now
