  1. Good morning, Messiah West. My name's Adam. Actually, I'm coming to you from Calvary Baptist Church. I'm not a pastor there. I'm part-time staff, though. I'm the small groups director there. And it's a pleasure to be with you again.

  2. And we were here last summer when Pastor Daniel was on break. And I have the pleasure of joining you and filling in for him one weekend then. And it's a pleasure to be with you again this morning.

  3. My understanding is that you guys are doing a series on the fifth book of the Psalter, the Book of Psalms. And the fifth book is the last book.

  4. And it's usually associated with a period of time where the exiles returned to Israel and looked forward to the restoration of Israel and the fulfillment of God's promises to David.

  5. The Psalms were the songbook of Israel, songs that they sung to worship God.

  6. At our house, we often sing from a hymnal. And I try to explain slowly what the language means.

  7. Because often these older hymns, they have language that's out of date.

  8. Sometimes even in hymns I know and love, I come across words or sometimes even entire verses where I need to guess or Google what the meaning is.

  9. And I think today's Psalm, Psalm 110, would have been kind of like that for the Israelites.

  10. I invite you to turn there now.

  11. Psalm 110.

  12. It's a Psalm Nisa read just now.

  13. My Bible has very sticky pages, so if you'll excuse me.

  14. Psalm 110.

  15. It's written by King David, who's looking forward in this Psalm to the Messiah, the Savior of Israel.

  16. It celebrates the Messiah and celebrates his future victories.

  17. And that's clear.

  18. But as we go through each verse, I suspect that for the Israelites even, things would have been confusing, even to that original audience.

  19. Part of that's the expectations that Israel would have had.

  20. When the Psalter was compiled, the Israelites would have been looking forward to a kingdom with sovereignty and prosperity like they had under King David.

  21. But God's plan of salvation was greater than that.

  22. God's plan of salvation was perfect, promising a king and a kingdom that went far beyond Israel's expectations.

  23. God's plan of salvation is fulfilled in Jesus.

  24. And today I'd like us to see what this Psalm says about Jesus and to worship Jesus for his greatness and perfections.

  25. I've got five points if you've got your liturgy handout and you want to fill them out.

  26. Five points.

  27. First, Jesus is greater than a human Savior.

  28. He's greater than a human Savior.

  29. Second, Jesus is a perfect king.

  30. So he's a perfect king.

  31. Point three, Jesus is the perfect way to God.

  32. He's the perfect way to God.

  33. Point four, Jesus will bring about perfect justice.

  34. He'll bring about perfect justice.

  35. And point five, Jesus will come in perfect victory.

  36. So he's greater than a human Savior.

  37. He's the perfect king.

  38. He's the perfect way to God.

  39. He will bring about perfect justice.

  40. And he will come in perfect victory.

  41. Before we start, why don't I pray for our time in God's word.

  42. Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing yourself to us.

  43. Thank you for revealing Jesus to us.

  44. Thank you that you are a God who speaks.

  45. Thank you for your Holy Spirit.

  46. And may he be illuminating your word to us this morning.

  47. May he help us to understand what it says and delight in Jesus Christ.

  48. We pray this in Jesus' name.

  49. Amen.

  50. So point one is Jesus is greater than a human Savior.

  51. So King Charles III is the current king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

  52. And his wife Camilla is the queen consort.

  53. From my understanding, in formal situations, Prince William and Princess Catherine must refer to queen consort Camilla,

  54. who's their stepmother, mother-in-law, as your majesty.

  55. But when Charles passes away, William will be king.

  56. At which point, Camilla will refer to her stepson and stepdaughter-in-law as your majesty.

  57. That seems funny to me.

  58. It seems odd to refer to your stepson as your majesty.

  59. And here in our text today, there's something similarly odd.

  60. Look at verse 1.

  61. Verse 1, it says,

  62. The Lord says to my Lord,

  63. Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.

  64. In this first verse, we've got two characters.

  65. There's the Lord with it being in all caps L-O-R-D.

  66. That's referring to God.

  67. When you see that L-O-R-D, that's God's covenant name, the I am who I am.

  68. So God is speaking.

  69. And he says to my Lord, someone who David refers to as his Lord.

  70. This is a psalm about the Messiah, the Davidic king promised to David in 2 Samuel chapter 7,

    2 Samuel 7 chapter mention

  71. where it says in verse 12,

  72. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers,

  73. I will raise up your offspring after you,

  74. who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

  75. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

  76. So, in 2 Samuel, it says that the Messiah was to be the son of David.

  77. Of course, King Solomon, Solomon's David's son and successor,

  78. he would go on to have a great time of great prosperity and build a physical temple in Jerusalem.

  79. But Israel's understanding and hope was that a future king in the line of David

  80. would come and establish an eternal kingdom.

  81. And it's that king, that savior, that God is speaking to in verse 1,

  82. and who David refers to as Lord.

  83. The word there, Lord, is often used to refer to God,

  84. and it's also used to refer to human beings when they occupy an important position.

  85. But in the Bible, referring to someone as Lord means that the person is greater than you.

  86. And so, if the Savior is David's son, it's striking and odd that David would refer to him as Lord.

  87. Now, that's not just my opinion.

  88. That was Jesus' opinion.

  89. Jesus asks the people in Jerusalem in Mark chapter 12, verse 35 to 37.

    Mark 12:35–37

  90. If you want to turn there, Mark chapter 12.

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  91. Verse 35.

  92. So, Jesus is talking in Jerusalem, and he says,

  93. How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?

  94. David himself and the Holy Spirit declared,

  95. The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.

  96. Jesus asks, David himself calls him Lord.

  97. So, how is he his son?

  98. Jesus wants us to see that David knew that this Messiah would not only be from his family tree,

  99. but would be much greater than him.

  100. On top of that, on top of how striking it is that David calls the Messiah Lord,

  101. it's striking that God tells the Messiah that he will sit at God's right hand.

  102. The right hand is a position of great authority.

  103. So, is this right hand just referring to the throne in Jerusalem?

  104. The author of Hebrews doesn't think so.

  105. In Hebrews chapter 1, talking about how Jesus is much greater than angels,

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  106. the author asks in Hebrews chapter 1, verse 13,

    Hebrews 1:13

  107. And to which of the angels has he, has God ever said,

  108. Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?

  109. So, God telling the Messiah to sit at his right hand was more than just a call to a normal position of authority.

  110. The Messiah is here prophesied to be the one who will somehow be the son of David,

  111. but greater than David, and the king of God's people,

  112. but also occupy a position of even greater authority.

  113. How can that be?

  114. The New Testament tells us the Messiah is God.

  115. He is both truly God, God become flesh,

  116. and truly man, born in the family tree of David.

  117. He lived a perfect life, died and rose again,

  118. and as we declared, he ascended into heaven,

  119. and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.

  120. The right hand is not just the throne in Jerusalem, but the throne in heaven.

  121. Turn to Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  122. At Pentecost, David declares, verse 32 of Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  123. This Jesus God raised up, and of that we are all witnesses.

  124. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God,

  125. and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,

  126. he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

  127. For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,

  128. The Lord said to my Lord,

  129. Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.

  130. Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain

  131. that God has made him both Lord and Christ,

  132. this Jesus whom you crucified.

  133. People of Israel were looking forward to another David,

  134. but in Psalm 110, God tells us that the Messiah

  135. will not just be another David, but greater than David.

  136. What about us?

  137. What kind of Savior are we looking for?

  138. Do we find ourselves looking for mere Davids?

  139. Or are we worshiping and trusting the greater David?

  140. There are so many, to use Tim Keller's language,

  141. counterfeit saviors that we are tempted to put our trust in.

  142. Whether it's political figures, celebrities, or spiritual leaders.

  143. We have to know that there's only one true Savior, Jesus Christ.

  144. And Jesus calls us to believe in him.

  145. He said to his disciples in John chapter 14, verse 1,

    John 14:1

  146. before he died, he said,

  147. Let not your hearts be troubled.

  148. Believe in God.

  149. Believe also in me.

  150. And today, church, may we stop looking for Davids,

  151. but worship and trust in the greater David.

  152. Jesus is greater than a human Savior.

  153. Point two, Jesus is a perfect king.

  154. King David's reign was a golden age in the time of Israel.

  155. It was marked with great prosperity and many victories over Israel's enemies.

  156. However, his reign was not always a happy one.

  157. As an example, at one point, David's son Absalom,

  158. it says in the Bible,

  159. he stole the hearts of the men of Israel

  160. and started a rebellion,

  161. which resulted in a battle which took out the lives of 200,000,

  162. no, 20,000 men in Israel,

  163. including David's own son.

  164. David's reign, while very impressive, was imperfect.

  165. Jesus' reign is perfect,

  166. and he is the perfect king.

  167. What does a perfect reign look like?

  168. Well, we don't have a king here in...

  169. Well, we do have a king in Canada,

  170. but we also have...

  171. The governing is done by the government.

  172. And not to get too political,

  173. but I'm sure our prime minister, Mark Carney,

  174. would love it if his...

  175. He had success in the midst of his opposition,

  176. if he had cooperation from others,

  177. and an energetic tenure.

  178. He'd love it if he was able to govern successfully,

  179. despite threats from the opposition parties

  180. and conflict with other countries,

  181. if he had cooperation from his caucus,

  182. from the provinces and the general public,

  183. and if his work as prime minister

  184. was seen as energetic and productive.

  185. Well, here in Psalm 110,

  186. David describes the Messiah's reign.

  187. Look at verses 1 to 3.

  188. It says,

  189. The Lord said to my Lord,

  190. Sit at my right hand

  191. until I make your enemies your footstool.

  192. The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter.

  193. Rule in the midst of your enemies.

  194. Your people will offer themselves freely

  195. on the day of your power.

  196. In holy garments from the womb of the morning,

  197. the dew of your youth will be yours.

  198. Translators and commentators

  199. find a lot of the language difficult to interpret,

  200. but the general picture

  201. is of the Messiah reigning with success,

  202. a perfect king.

  203. He has victory over his enemies.

  204. Verse 1 says that God will make the Messiah's enemies

  205. his footstool.

  206. He'll put them under his feet.

  207. And verse 2 says that his reign will extend from Jerusalem.

  208. The scepter will go out from Zion.

  209. And David says to the Messiah,

  210. Rule in the midst of your enemies.

  211. So the Messiah's reign will not be stopped by opposition.

  212. Also, the Messiah will have complete allegiance from his people.

  213. Verse 3 says that the people will offer themselves freely to the Messiah.

  214. One commentator describes it as a host of volunteers rallying to their leader in a holy war.

  215. And the Messiah himself will reign with youthful vigor.

  216. Verse 3 says that in holy garments,

  217. in holy garments from the womb of the morning,

  218. the dew of your youth will be yours.

  219. So,

  220. the New Living Translation paraphrases it,

  221. you are arrayed in holy garments,

  222. and your strength will be renewed each day

  223. like the morning dew.

  224. The picture is of a king who reigns

  225. with vitality,

  226. with energy,

  227. and with vigor.

  228. So that's victory,

  229. allegiance,

  230. vitality.

  231. Is that what we think of when we think of Jesus?

  232. When we think of Jesus' reign?

  233. We Christians today live in what

  234. the theologians call the already,

  235. but not yet.

  236. So we look forward

  237. to a day when every knee will bow

  238. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

  239. and when we'll live with Jesus,

  240. who will be the light that fills

  241. the world

  242. forever and ever.

  243. But,

  244. in the meanwhile,

  245. before eternity,

  246. it can be tempting to think

  247. that Jesus is not in control,

  248. that his enemies are winning.

  249. We look at wars around the world

  250. and bad influences

  251. around us

  252. and around our children

  253. who attempt to draw us away from Jesus.

  254. We're tempted to believe that

  255. maybe Jesus is sleeping,

  256. or at least unproductive.

  257. But King Jesus reigns,

  258. and he works,

  259. and he's for us

  260. in this age right now.

  261. All authority in heaven and on earth

  262. has been given to Jesus,

  263. and he is with us always

  264. until the end of the age.

  265. If you are troubled today,

  266. may you know that Jesus is king,

  267. that Jesus reigns.

  268. As he says in John chapter 16,

    John 16:33

  269. verse 33,

  270. I've said these things to you

  271. that in me you may have peace,

  272. in the world you will have tribulation,

  273. but take heart,

  274. I have overcome the world.

  275. So church,

  276. let us take heart,

  277. and then in response,

  278. let us offer ourselves freely

  279. to Jesus to do his work,

  280. to live lives that glorify him,

  281. lives of worship.

  282. And while we pray

  283. that God's kingdom come,

  284. Jesus is king right now.

  285. Jesus is greater than a human savior.

  286. He's the perfect king.

  287. And point three,

  288. Jesus is the perfect way to God.

  289. David's son Solomon,

  290. he built a temple

  291. where the priests offered sacrifices

  292. on behalf of the people.

  293. But here in Psalm 110,

  294. we get glimpses of what will be revealed

  295. when the Messiah comes.

  296. Look at verse four.

  297. Verse four, it says,

  298. the Lord has sworn

  299. and will not change his mind,

  300. you are a priest forever

  301. after the order of Melchizedek.

  302. Notice three things.

  303. The Messiah will not just be a king,

  304. but will be a priest king

  305. who acts as a mediator

  306. between God

  307. and man.

  308. Also, the Messiah will be

  309. an eternal priest.

  310. His priesthood will have no end.

  311. And finally,

  312. he won't be

  313. a Levitical priest.

  314. Israel already had priests,

  315. priests from the tribe of Levi,

  316. who would offer sacrifices

  317. to the Lord.

  318. God here says,

  319. I'm going to give you

  320. a better priest

  321. after the order of Melchizedek.

  322. To understand the reference

  323. to Melchizedek,

  324. you'll need to understand

  325. in at least a little bit

  326. Genesis chapter 14.

    Genesis 14 chapter mention

  327. You guys can turn there now.

  328. Genesis chapter 14.

    Genesis 14 chapter mention

  329. Abraham's nephew, Lot,

  330. settled in Sodom

  331. and he found himself

  332. in the middle of a war.

  333. And the enemies take him captive,

  334. so Abraham goes and rescues Lot.

  335. And later,

  336. the king of Sodom

  337. goes to greet Abraham

  338. and a man named Melchizedek joins.

  339. It says in chapter 14,

  340. verse 18,

  341. it says,

  342. And Melchizedek,

  343. king of Salem,

  344. brought out bread and wine.

  345. He was priest of God most high.

  346. And he blessed him and said,

  347. Blessed be Abram

  348. by God most high,

  349. possessor of heaven and earth.

  350. And blessed be God most high,

  351. who has delivered

  352. your enemies into your hand.

  353. And Abram gave him

  354. a tenth of everything.

  355. everything.

  356. This is really weird.

  357. We see very early on

  358. a priest of God

  359. who is also a king

  360. whose origin and lineage

  361. is not identified.

  362. Which is very strange,

  363. especially for the book of Genesis.

  364. God says in Psalm 110

  365. that the Messiah

  366. will be like Melchizedek.

  367. Verse 4 says that

  368. this is an oath from God.

  369. The author of Hebrews

  370. explains this

  371. in Hebrews chapter 7.

    Hebrews 7 chapter mention

  372. You guys can turn there.

  373. Hebrews chapter 7.

    Hebrews 7 chapter mention

  374. Verse 22.

  375. Verse 22.

  376. It says,

  377. This makes Jesus

  378. the guarantor

  379. of a greater covenant.

  380. The former priests

  381. were many in number

  382. because they were prevented

  383. by death

  384. from continuing in office.

  385. But he holds

  386. his priesthood

  387. permanently

  388. because he continues

  389. forever.

  390. Consequently,

  391. he is able to save

  392. to the othermost

  393. those who draw near

  394. to God

  395. through him

  396. since he always

  397. lives to make

  398. intercession for them.

  399. See,

  400. the old system

  401. of priests

  402. and animal sacrifices

  403. could never remove

  404. our sin.

  405. And that's the point.

  406. The point of the system

  407. was to point us

  408. to our need

  409. for salvation

  410. and our need

  411. for a greater savior.

  412. In the old system,

  413. priests just kept

  414. on offering sacrifices

  415. over and over

  416. and over again.

  417. Jesus Christ,

  418. the priest king

  419. in the order

  420. of Melchizedek,

  421. offered himself

  422. as a sacrifice

  423. once for all.

  424. He was raised

  425. from the dead

  426. and he's now

  427. our living

  428. great high priest

  429. continuing

  430. to intercede

  431. on our behalf

  432. before the Father.

  433. The old system

  434. was meant

  435. to point us

  436. to a greater way

  437. to God

  438. and Jesus

  439. through his priesthood

  440. and his sacrifice

  441. offers a greater

  442. covenant with God.

  443. Jesus is the way,

  444. the truth,

  445. and the life.

  446. Jesus is

  447. the perfect way

  448. to God.

  449. That's what David

  450. is trying to tell us

  451. in Psalm 110.

  452. The Messiah

  453. will be this perfect

  454. way to God

  455. and today,

  456. like the author

  457. of Hebrews,

  458. I urge you

  459. to put your trust

  460. in no other way.

  461. Do not put your trust

  462. in your good works,

  463. in your religious rituals,

  464. in some kind

  465. of sacramental system.

  466. Our relationship

  467. with God

  468. is secured

  469. through the work

  470. of Christ alone,

  471. received through faith

  472. alone.

  473. And because Jesus

  474. is the perfect way

  475. to God,

  476. we can worship him.

  477. Jesus takes

  478. away our sins

  479. as far as

  480. the east

  481. is from the west.

  482. And that's great news

  483. because,

  484. point four,

  485. Jesus will bring about

  486. perfect justice.

  487. Someone I know

  488. heard him say

  489. that they want

  490. to follow Jesus,

  491. but they find it hard

  492. to read the Bible

  493. because it's so violent.

  494. And it is hard.

  495. Look at verse five.

  496. Verse five and six

  497. says,

  498. Lord is at your right hand.

  499. He will shatter kings

  500. on the day of his wrath.

  501. He will execute judgment

  502. among the nations,

  503. filling them with corpses.

  504. He will shatter chiefs

  505. over the wide world.

  506. The psalmist now,

  507. David,

  508. turns to the work

  509. of the Messiah.

  510. The Messiah

  511. at the right hand

  512. of God the Father

  513. is a wrathful king.

  514. And he is described here

  515. as destroying

  516. his enemies,

  517. executing perfect judgment

  518. and filling the nations

  519. with the bodies

  520. of his enemies.

  521. This is supposed

  522. to be good news.

  523. We're very blessed

  524. to be in a time

  525. of relative peace,

  526. peace not enjoyed

  527. by people all around

  528. the world

  529. or by those

  530. who came before us

  531. in history.

  532. And so usually

  533. we find it hard

  534. to understand

  535. how you could celebrate

  536. the slaughter

  537. of your enemies.

  538. But David,

  539. during his days,

  540. was surrounded

  541. by enemies

  542. who posed a serious

  543. threat to him

  544. and his people.

  545. And because of this threat,

  546. Israel was better able

  547. to see the seriousness

  548. of sin

  549. and the goodness

  550. of justice.

  551. Justice is good

  552. if there's a terrorist

  553. or a school shooter

  554. and he's taken out

  555. before they can kill people,

  556. that's cause

  557. for celebration.

  558. So we should worship God

  559. because of his justice

  560. and his wrath.

  561. We should worship him

  562. that he will ensure

  563. that evil is punished.

  564. We can also acknowledge,

  565. though,

  566. that justice is scary

  567. because we're all sinners.

  568. You know,

  569. if we think about it,

  570. we know the evil

  571. in our hearts.

  572. We know that we are,

  573. by nature,

  574. God's enemies

  575. and that we deserve

  576. to be treated

  577. by him as such.

  578. And justice should,

  579. therefore,

  580. make us appreciate

  581. grace all the more.

  582. Grace is what God

  583. offers us in Christ.

  584. Instead of hell,

  585. God offers us

  586. eternal life.

  587. Instead of punishment,

  588. he offers us

  589. his blessing.

  590. Instead of his wrath,

  591. he offers us

  592. his love.

  593. The other week,

  594. influential pastor

  595. John MacArthur

  596. died and he went

  597. to be with Jesus.

  598. And back in 2005,

  599. he was on the Larry King

  600. show on CNN

  601. on a panel

  602. about the afterlife

  603. and he was asked

  604. where we go

  605. when we die.

  606. He said,

  607. one of two places,

  608. either outside

  609. of the presence

  610. of God forever

  611. or into the presence

  612. of God forever.

  613. And if it's into,

  614. he said,

  615. only through faith

  616. in Jesus Christ.

  617. So Larry King

  618. asked,

  619. so a bad guy

  620. believes in Jesus

  621. and he goes to heaven

  622. and a good guy

  623. who doesn't

  624. goes to hell.

  625. He said,

  626. that doesn't sound

  627. just.

  628. MacArthur

  629. responded,

  630. Larry,

  631. we don't want justice.

  632. Justice sends

  633. everybody to hell.

  634. We need grace.

  635. We need forgiveness.

  636. We need mercy.

  637. friends,

  638. if any of you

  639. do not know

  640. God's grace,

  641. he offers it

  642. to you this morning.

  643. The day of wrath

  644. will come

  645. and all who have

  646. faith in the Messiah

  647. and Jesus Christ

  648. will be saved.

  649. Turn from your sins

  650. and believe in Jesus.

  651. If you want to talk

  652. more about

  653. what it means

  654. to be saved

  655. from your sins,

  656. please talk to me

  657. after the service

  658. or talk to one

  659. of the leaders

  660. of this church.

  661. For those of us

  662. who are Christians,

  663. may we rejoice

  664. that Jesus is the

  665. Savior of true justice

  666. and may it remind us

  667. of how great

  668. his love and mercy

  669. is towards us

  670. who have been shown

  671. amazing grace.

  672. Jesus is greater

  673. than a human Savior.

  674. He's the perfect king.

  675. He's the perfect way

  676. to God.

  677. He will bring about

  678. perfect justice.

  679. And finally,

  680. Jesus will come

  681. in perfect victory.

  682. In the Old Testament,

  683. David defeated Goliath

  684. and then he was

  685. returning back

  686. and he was greeted

  687. with singing

  688. and dancing.

  689. But if you recall,

  690. this victory

  691. over the Philistines

  692. did not lead to peace

  693. for David

  694. or for Israel.

  695. It actually began

  696. a conflict

  697. between David

  698. and the king

  699. at the time,

  700. King Saul.

  701. It also didn't end

  702. the conflicts

  703. between Israel

  704. and the Philistines.

  705. The very next chapter,

  706. we see David

  707. being sent out

  708. again to fight

  709. against the armies

  710. of the Philistines.

  711. And he kept fighting them

  712. his entire reign.

  713. As king,

  714. David did not,

  715. David did bring

  716. many victories

  717. over the surrounding peoples.

  718. But here in Psalm 110,

  719. we see that David

  720. looks forward to

  721. a Savior

  722. who will have

  723. even greater victory.

  724. Look at verse 7.

  725. Verse 7 says,

  726. He will drink

  727. from the brook

  728. by the way,

  729. therefore he will

  730. lift up his head.

  731. So this verse

  732. shows us

  733. the Messiah

  734. pausing to drink

  735. from brooks

  736. and then lifting up

  737. his head

  738. refreshed

  739. with vigor

  740. and power.

  741. Commentators

  742. differ on whether

  743. this is,

  744. this seems to be

  745. in the context

  746. of a battle,

  747. but it's unclear

  748. whether this is

  749. before or during

  750. or after.

  751. But it's clear

  752. that the Messiah

  753. is a king

  754. who will be mighty

  755. to save

  756. and who will conquer

  757. over his enemies

  758. and bring true victory.

  759. The New Living Translation

  760. paraphrases it,

  761. but he himself

  762. will be refreshed

  763. from brooks

  764. along the way.

  765. He will be

  766. victorious.

  767. The Messiah

  768. will be victorious.

  769. Jesus will come again

  770. in perfect victory.

  771. He's already declared

  772. that it is finished

  773. on the cross

  774. and he bowed his head.

  775. He rose again

  776. on the third day

  777. and declared

  778. that all authority

  779. in heaven

  780. and on earth

  781. had been given to him.

  782. And in Revelation

    Revelation 19 chapter mention

  783. chapter 19

  784. it says in verse 11,

  785. then I saw

  786. heaven opened

  787. and behold

  788. a white horse,

  789. the one sitting on it

  790. is called

  791. faithful and true

  792. and in righteousness

  793. he judges

  794. and makes war.

  795. verse 15

  796. it says,

  797. from his mouth

  798. comes a sharp sword

  799. with which

  800. to strike down

  801. the nations

  802. and he will rule them

  803. with a rod of iron

  804. and he will tread

  805. the winepress

  806. of the fury

  807. of the wrath of God

  808. the Almighty.

  809. On his robe

  810. and on his thighs

  811. he has a name written

  812. King of Kings

  813. and Lord of Lords.

  814. Jesus will come back

  815. in perfect victory

  816. and we can look forward

  817. to his return

  818. when peace will reign

  819. and where we will be free

  820. from the presence

  821. of sin and death

  822. forever.

  823. And we can cry out

  824. we can cry out now

  825. Maranatha

  826. come Lord Jesus.

  827. And in the meanwhile

  828. in the already

  829. but not yet

  830. there is victory

  831. available

  832. available to us today.

  833. Victory over death,

  834. victory over

  835. the punishment of sin

  836. over the power of sin

  837. and that should lead us

  838. to worship Jesus

  839. worshiping him

  840. as King of Kings

  841. and Lord of Lords.

  842. There is victory

  843. in Jesus now

  844. and more

  845. in the future.

  846. Jesus will bring about

  847. perfect victory.

  848. Jesus is greater than

  849. a human savior.

  850. He is the perfect king.

  851. He is the perfect way

  852. to God.

  853. He will bring about

  854. perfect justice

  855. and he will come

  856. in perfect victory.

  857. Now those who

  858. initially sang

  859. David's psalm

  860. or sung it

  861. when the psalter

  862. was compiled

  863. did not get to see

  864. the appearing

  865. of the Messiah.

  866. But now we can see

  867. and hopefully have seen

  868. today in scripture

  869. how Jesus Christ

  870. came

  871. and how his

  872. greatness

  873. and perfections

  874. fulfill

  875. this psalm.

  876. So may it cause us

  877. to worship him

  878. with hearts

  879. that rejoice

  880. in the revelation

  881. of his perfections.

  882. Let's pray.

  883. Heavenly Father

  884. thank you for Jesus.

  885. We thank you

  886. for how great he is

  887. and how perfect

  888. salvation he has brought.

  889. We thank you

  890. that he is

  891. the perfect savior.

  892. Thank you that

  893. through him

  894. death has been defeated

  895. and we can through him

  896. know eternal life.

  897. May we trust in him

  898. and him alone

  899. and may we worship you

  900. with hearts full of thanksgiving.

  901. We pray this in Jesus' name.

  902. Amen.
