>> Joshua.
-
>> The book of Joshua.
-
Let me just get to verse seven and then
-
we'll make our way. Joshua chapter 1
-
verse 7 in the NIV. It says, "Be strong
-
and very courageous.
-
>> Be careful to obey all the law my
-
servant Moses gave you. Do not turn from
-
it to the right or to the left that you
-
may be successful wherever you go. Keep
-
this book of the law always on your
-
lips. Meditate on it day and night so
-
that you may be careful to do everything
-
written in it. Then you will be
-
prosperous and successful. Have I not
-
commanded you? Be strong and courageous.
-
Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged,
-
for the Lord your God will be with you
-
wherever you go.
-
So Joshua ordered the officers of the
-
people
-
>> go through the camp
-
>> and tell the people, "Get your
-
provisions ready.
-
>> 3 days from now, you will cross the
-
Jordan here to go in and take possession
-
of the land the Lord your God is giving
-
you for your own."
-
>> Uh for the next few moments, I want to
-
preach from the subject Let's ride.
-
Let's ride.
-
>> Bump the person next to you. Say, "Let's
-
ride."
-
>> Transitions.
-
>> Transitions can be challenging.
-
Whether it's moving to a new city or
-
starting a new job or stepping into a
-
new role, transitions often bring
-
feelings of uncertainty,
-
>> feelings of discomfort.
-
>> And if we be real honest, sometimes
-
feelings of fear,
-
>> transitions require us to leave the
-
familiar and to step into the unknown.
-
>> For some, it's the fear of failure. For
-
others, it's the weight of new
-
responsibility.
-
And yet, transitions are also
-
opportunities.
-
>> Yes, sir.
-
>> Yeah. Opportunities to grow,
-
>> to become,
-
>> to trust God more deeply
-
>> and to see his promises fulfilled in a
-
new way.
-
>> Life is filled.
-
>> Oh, I hear my himno talking to me. Life
-
is filled with swift transitions.
-
>> Yeah. graduating from school, getting
-
married, becoming a parent, or even
-
saying goodbye to a loved one. Each of
-
these moments mark the end of one
-
chapter and the beginning of another.
-
Today, as we gather on this New Year's
-
Eve, we stand on the brink of a
-
transition,
-
>> not only into a new year,
-
>> but also into a new season of leadership
-
for our church.
-
>> After 37 years
-
>> of faithful, consistent, tireless,
-
loving service, our beloved bishop has
-
retired.
-
or if we put it in her words,
-
restructuring.
-
>> And we have humbly stepped into the role
-
of pastor
-
>> in three days. On Saturday,
-
>> Saturday,
-
>> y'all heard, bishop, on Saturday,
-
>> January the 3
-
>> is the official pastoral installation.
-
>> Hallelujah.
-
This is a moment of transition.
-
>> Not just for the Evans and the Joneses.
-
>> That's right.
-
>> But for all of us.
-
>> Oh yeah. Let me just sit there for a
-
minute. Not just for us, but for us.
-
>> Yet the transition is not just for us,
-
but it's for us.
-
>> THE ELEVATION IS NOT JUST FOR US. It is
-
for
-
>> us.
-
God is so faithful
-
>> cuz just a few weeks ago while at the
-
retirement I'm standing in the back
-
parking lot and one of the veterans of
-
our church comes up to me and he tells
-
me he says pastor Trev you know in the
-
military there's a there's a scripture
-
that is read often especially when
-
there's a change of leadership
-
>> I said well what is that he said it's
-
Joshua chapter 1 verse 9
-
>> it says says in the King James, it says,
-
"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong
-
and of a good courage. Be not afraid,
-
neither be thou dismayed, for the Lord
-
thy God is with thee, whethersoever thou
-
goest." What a powerful reminder that
-
even in the midst of change, God's
-
presence remains the same.
-
Woo.
-
>> Although transition brings change, there
-
are some things, beloved, that remain
-
the same.
-
>> These unchanging truths gave Joshua the
-
confidence to respond to the people with
-
a bold declaration of let's ride.
-
>> In our text, we find Joshua standing at
-
a pivotal moment in Israel's history.
-
>> Moses, the great leader who had brought
-
the Israeliites out of Egypt. out of
-
bondage and through the wilderness was
-
now dead.
-
>> The mantle of leadership had passed to
-
Joshua and the task before him was
-
daunting.
-
>> He was to lead the people across the
-
Jordan River and into the promised land.
-
>> This was a moment of transition.
-
>> But it was also a moment of opportunity.
-
>> That's right.
-
>> Yeah. In the middle of transition, God
-
reminded Joshua of three unchanging
-
truths.
-
>> That the mission is still the same.
-
>> That the mantle is still the same.
-
>> And that his message to them is still
-
the same.
-
>> Yeah. Although Moses was gone, number
-
one, the mission God had given them was
-
still the same.
-
>> Look in verse two. It says, "God tells
-
Joshua, Moses, my servant, is dead.
-
>> Now then, you and all these people get
-
ready to cross the Jordan into the land
-
that I'm giving to them
-
>> to the Israelites." Verse three, I will
-
give you every place, listen to this,
-
where you set your foot
-
>> as I promised Moses, your territory will
-
extend from the desert to Lebanon
-
>> and for talk Bible and from the great
-
river, the Euphrates to the
-
Mediterranean Sea in the west.
-
>> Now, I know that doesn't mean anything
-

to Deuteronomy chapter 11.
Deuteronomy 11 chapter mention

Deuteronomy 11, this is God talking to
-
Moses.
-
>> He says in VERSE 24, "EVERY PLACE,

MOSES, WHERE YOU SET YOUR foot
-
>> will be yours.
-
>> Your territory will extend." Listen,
-
from the desert of Lebanon,
-
>> and from the Euphrates River to the
-
Mediterranean Sea, no one will be able
-
>> to stand against you.
-
Yeah, HE TOLD JOSHUA THE same thing he
-
told Moses.
-
>> THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GOD GIVING JOSHUA
-
THE SAME mission that he gave to Moses
-
is PROFOUND BECAUSE IT REMINDS US CORNIA
-
THAT GOD'S PLANS ARE NOT DEPENDENT on
-
one person.
-
>> OH, GOD'S PLAN IS NOT DEPENDENT on one
-
person.
-
>> Not on me, not on you. AS MY GRANDMAMA
-
WOULD SAY, NO, NOT ONE MONKEY. NOT ONE
-
MONKEY.
-
>> One monkey,
-
>> don't stop the show.
-
I remember Bishop about 20some years ago
-
telling us at Hust and Ward. She would
-
look at us right square in the face and
-
she would say, "This ain't O'Neal
-
Tabernacle."
-
>> That's right.
-
>> This is God's church.
-
>> And the church of God is moving on.
-
>> That sounded harsh then,
-
>> but I understand it now.
-
>> That's right.
-
>> That one monkey don't stop no show.
-
>> God's church is moving on. Woo!
-
>> Leaders may change,
-
>> but the mission remains the same.
-
>> For Cornia, I need you to hear me. Our
-
mission does not change.
-
>> OUR ASSIGNMENT FROM God does not change.
-
>> WE ARE STILL CALLED TO EQUIP THE
-
BELIEVER,
-
>> to grow,
-
>> to build, to serve, and to share.
-
We're still called to equip the believer
-
>> to grow,
-
>> to build, to serve, and to share.

WE'RE STILL CALLED
-
>> TO EQUIP THE BELIEVER

>> to grow, to build, to serve, to share,

to grow, to build, TO SERVE, TO SHARE,

CHURCH

>> grow to build to serve TO SERVE

>> the mission is still the same.

>> Yes sir.

THE ASSIGNMENT FROM God is still the
-
same
-
>> that God has equipped us to grow
-
>> in his word
-
>> because the GRASS WITHERS,
-
>> THE FLOWER FADES,
-
>> BUT THE WORD OF OUR GOD SHALL stand
-
forever.
-
>> WE'RE CALLED TO BUILD real relationships
-
>> BECAUSE WE'RE STILL NOT MADE.
-
>> WE'RE CALLED TO SERVE WITH PURPOSE.
-
God has called us to serve because it's
-
our serving that makes impact in the
-
lives of other people.
-
>> I'M NOT JUST CALLED TO GET. I'M CALLED
-
to give.
-
>> I'm not just called TO CONSUME. I'M
-
CALLED TO CONTRIBUTE.
-
>> That's right.
-
>> We're called to grow, to build, to
-
serve, and to share our faith.
-
>> Because there still is a heaven to gain
-
>> and a hell to shun. God has given us the
-
same mission. The mission has not
-
changed.
-
>> And can I just insert this? Neither has
-
the method.
-
>> Yeah. In in verse three, just let me
-
just let me get that a little bit in. In
-
verse three, God says, he says, "Every
-
place that the sole of your foot shall
-
tread upon, that I have given to you."
-
>> Understand something. The promise that
-
God has made in your life is not
-
passive.
-
The promises that God has made in your
-
life is not passive. If he's telling you
-
you're going TO HAVE ABUNDANCE, YOU
-
GOING TO HAVE TO go after it. If he tell
-
you your family's GOING TO BE SAVED, YOU
-
GOING to have to go after it. If he said
-
BETTER HEALTH IS YOURS, YOU GOING TO
-
HAVE TO GO AFTER IT.
-
>> He told them to put their foot ON IT.
-
>> HE TOLD MOSES, "PUT YOUR FOOT ON IT."
-
>> HE TOLD JOSHUA, "PUT YOUR FOOT ON IT."
-
HE TOLD THEM, "PUT YOUR FOOT ON IT." BUT
-
CORNELIA, HE'S TELLING US, PUT OUR FAITH
-
ON IT.
-
>> FOR WE WALK BY FAITH
-
>> AND NOT BY SIGHT. THE JUST SHALL LIVE
-
>> by faith. Let me tell you something.
-
EVERYTHING THAT CORNIA HAS DONE, IT HAS
-
BEEN DONE BY FAITH.
-
>> EVERY PERSON THAT HAS BEEN FED HAS BEEN
-
FED BY FAITH. EVERY BOX OF CHICKEN
-
THAT'S BEEN GIVEN HAS BEEN GIVEN BY
-
FAITH. EVERY BAG OF GROCERIES THAT'S
-
BEEN HANDED OUT HAS BEEN HANDED OUT BY
-
FAITH. EVERY BUILDING THAT HAS BEEN
-
BUILT HAS BEEN BUILT BY FAITH. EVERY VAN
-
PAID FOR HAS BEEN PAID FOR BY FAITH.
-
>> AND WE TOO MUST WALK BY FAITH.
-
>> We're too we too are going TO HAVE TO
-
ASK GOD FOR WHAT we want.
-
>> Yes, sir.
-
>> BELIEVE GOD FOR WHAT WE WANT.
-
>> WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CONFESS WHAT WE
-
WANT. THEN WE HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT
-
IT IS WE'RE BELIEVING FOR.
-
>> THEN WE HAVE TO EXPECT
-
>> WHAT IT IS WE'VE ASKED FOR.
-
>> THEY DON'T LIKE THIS ONE, BISHOP, BUT WE
-
GOING TO HAVE TO FORGIVE.
-
>> WE GOT TO WALK BY FAITH.
-
>> Pump your neighbor and say, "The mission
-
is still the same."
-
>> The mission still
-
>> and the method hadn't changed.
-
>> The method has changed.
-
>> The mission is the same. The method is
-
the same. But number two, the mantle is
-
the same.
-
Not only did God give Joshua the same
-
mission,
-
>> but he also gave him the same mantle.
-
>> In verse 5, God says, "As I was with
-
Moses," God help me. Don't get stuck
-
here. "As I was with Moses,
-
>> SO SHALL I BE WITH YOU.
-
>> AS I WAS WITH MOSES,
-
>> SO SHALL I BE WITH YOU. AS I WAS WITH
-
MOSES, SO SHALL I BE WITH AS I WAS,
-
>> SO SHALL I BE.
-
>> AS I WAS, SO SHALL I BE. AS I WAS, SO
-
SHALL I BE. MAMA MAY BE GONE, BUT AS I
-
WAS, SO SHALL I BE.
-
>> THE MANTLE OF GOD'S PRESENCE
-
>> WAS STILL THE SAME.
-
>> God said, "I'm still with you." STILL
-
WITH
-
>> YOU. YOU GOT THE MANTLE OF MY PRESENCE
-
WITH YOU.
-
>> AND CORINIA, CAN I TELL YOU THAT THAT
-
THAT THAT THAT WE HAVE THE MANTLE OF OUR
-
BISHOP ON US STILL?
-
>> SHOUT OUT LOUD. SAY, SAME GRACE.
-
>> WE GOT THE SAME GRACE, THE SAME MANTLE
-
OF OUR PASTOR OWNERS.
-
>> YET TO HAVE REAL JOY IN SERVING JESUS.
-
I'M NOT SAD ABOUT SERVING.
-
>> I'M NOT MAD ABOUT SERVING. I'M NOT
-
MUMBLING AND GRUMBLING ABOUT SERVING.
-
BUT I GOT AN AUTHENTIC JOY TO SERVE
-
JESUS. BUMP YOUR NEIGHBOR. SAY, "SAME
-
GRACE."

>> Same grace TO MAKE TO HAVE FAITH TO MAKE
-
REAL IMPACT.
-
>> I'M SO GRATEFUL TO BE IN A CHURCH THAT'S
-
MAKING REAL IMPACT.
-
NO. SEE, SEE, if you didn't GROW UP IN
-
CHURCH, IT AIN'T NO KNOCK TO NOBODY
-
ELSE, BUT JUST LET ME JUST let me tell
-
you, if if you have ever been in a
-
church where you was doing and doing and
-
doing and doing and you wasn't sin,
-
like, what's the point?
-
>> I I KNOW IT. I KNOW IT. JUST LET ME GET
-
THROUGH HERE. YOU YOU YOU DON'T KNOW
-
WHAT IT'S LIKE
-
>> TO REALLY BE IN A PLACE NOW THAT WHAT WE
-
DO MATTERS.
-
>> THAT WHEN I SHOW UP, IT MATTERS. THAT
-
WHAT I DO MAKES THE DIFFERENCE IN
-
SOMEBODY LIFE. IT MATTERS.
-
>> That's the grace on us
-
>> that we have A FAITH TO IMPACT PEOPLE'S
-
lives
-
>> to change THEIR ETERNITIES.
-
>> WHAT WE DO IS NOT JUST FOR TIME.
-
>> BUT WHEN PEOPLE CLOSE THEIR EYES ON THIS
-
TIME,
-
>> THEY'LL OPEN THEIR EYES IN THE PRESENCE
-
OF THE LORD.
-
>> Touch somebody. Say it matters.
-
>> God the mantle. The mantle. Catch this
-
y'all. WE STILL WE GOT A MANTLE to live
-
better and die better.
-
>> We got a mantle to live better and die
-
better. We got A MANTLE TO GO AFTER
-
everything that's in our hearts to do.
-
>> That's right.
-
>> Woo. AIN'T THAT WHAT THEY TOLD HIM IN
-
SAMUEL? DO ALL THAT'S IN YOUR HEART.
-

IF GOD HAS TOLD YOU TO START THE

BUSINESS, START THE BUSINESS.

YOUR EYES ON this side,

>> that you can lay back and kiss everybody

around you and said, "It's been a good

ride."

>> AND I CLOSE MY EYES ON THIS SIDE and

open them in the presence of God.

>> I live in a way. I forgive the people
-
that have hurt me. YEAH,
-
>> I'M NOT DRAGGING THAT THING INTO 2026.
-
NO, NO, NO. I'M GOING TO FORGIVE.
-
>> I want to live better.
-
>> So I can die better.
-
>> Woo.
-
>> Touch your neighbor. Say, "Same mantle."
-
>> Oh, God. Same mant. Not only is the
-
method the same, not only is the mantle
-
the same, but the message is the same.
-
>> Yes, sir.
-
>> Finally, God gave Joshua the same
-
message. He gave it to him over and over
-
again. Can I just tell you? Anytime God
-
repeats himself, you and I got to pause.
-
>> ANYTIME GOD REPEATS HIMSELF, YOU AND I
-
HAVE TO PAUSE. HE TOLD JOSHUA, he said,
-
"Be strong
-
>> and courageous
-
>> in verse six."
-
>> Be strong and very courageous in verse 7
-
>> AND BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS IN VERSE 9.
-
GOD IS repeating himself.
-
>> YEAH. WHY IS GOD REPEATING HIMSELF?
-
CATCH THIS. BECAUSE HE KNEW JOSHUA AND
-
THE PEOPLE WOULD FACE CHALLENGES and he
-
wanted them to be reminded that courage
-
is needed.
-
>> Courage is still needed in what it is
-
that he's calling them to do.
-
>> Be strong.
-
>> Be strong
-
>> and courageous.
-
>> DON'T WAIT UNTIL YOU FEEL IT BEFORE YOU
-
GO AFTER IT.
-
>> BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS.
-
IT REMINDED HIM THAT COURAGE IS NOT THE
-
ABSENCE OF FEAR,
-
>> but the presence of faith.
-
>> Come on.
-
>> MY COURAGE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF FEAR.
-
>> Pump your name and say, "Do it scared."
-
>> Do it scared.
-
>> Yeah. Do it scared.
-
>> Do it nervous.
-
>> DO IT UNSURE OF YOURSELF. BUT IF GOD
-
TOLD YOU TO DO IT, GO DO IT.
-
>> HALLELUJAH.
-
>> AND CAN I TELL YOU, CORNELIA, THE
-
MESSAGE IS STILL THE same for us. that
-
Jesus
-
>> is still Lord,
-
>> that Jesus still saved.
-
>> THAT THE BLOOD STILL WORKS.
-
>> THAT'S OUR MESSAGE TO DYING MEN AND
-
WOMEN, BOYS AND GIRLS, THAT JESUS STILL
-
SAVED.
-
>> Touch your neighbor. Say it's still the
-
same message.
-
>> IN THEIR TRANSITION WITH CHANGE ALL
-
around them,
-
>> God reminded them that the mission is
-
still the same. the mantle of his
-
presence is still the same
-
>> and that his message to them and to
-
others is still the same.
-
>> Joshua remind Joshua responds to God's
-
command and his reminder in verse 10 and
-
11.
-
>> Boy, it's 11:58.

JOSHUA RESP RESPONDS TO GOD'S COMMAND
-
and his REMINDERS
-
>> BY TELLING THE OFFICERS,
-
>> "GO THROUGH THE camp
-
>> and tell the people,
-
>> GET YOUR PROVISIONS READY."
-
>> Oh yeah.
-
>> GO THROUGH THE CAMP. GET YOUR PROVISIONS
-
READY.
-
Go through the camp. Get your provisions
-
ready. IN OTHER WORDS, GOD SAID,
-
>> "Let's ride." TOUCH THE PERSON BESIDE
-
YOU AND SAY, "LET'S RIDE."
-
HERE COMES 2026. LET'S RIDE. BYE-BYE.
-

CHIN UP AND DECLARE, "Let's ride."

>> IF YOU BELIEVE GOD, IT HAS A SOUND. IT'S

BUT IT'S CONFIDENCE IN THE ONE THAT'S AT
-
THE HELM.

>> SEE, understand something.

>> WHEN I SAY LET'S RIDE,

>> SEE, RIGHT NOW, THIS IS HOW MANY OF US
-
ARE.

>> WE'RE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT.

BUT I'M BELIEVING GOD THAT BY THE TIME
-
YOU LEAVE HERE THAT YOU'LL GET OUT OF

THE DRIVER'S SEAT,

tell Jesus, "Take the wheel

and let's ride." I'm not driving, I'm
-
riding. I'm not worried, I'm riding.

Let's ride.
-
TO THE MISSION IS STILL THE SAME. LET'S
-
RIDE.
-
WILL WE GROW IN GOD'S WORD?
-
>> Will you serve with purpose?
-
>> Will you build real relationship?
-
WILL YOU SHARE YOUR FAITH?
-
Will we feed the hungry? Will we
-
remember the forgotten? WILL WE STILL
-
HAVE DAD? OR HOW ABOUT PRESENTATION OF
-
FAMILY? Will we still pray? Will we
-
fast? Will we give? SOMEBODY SHOUT,
-
"LET'S RIDE.
-
The mission is still the same, but the
-
mantle is still the same.
-
I DON'T KNOW WHAT 2026 HOLDS, but I know
-
but I know who holds 2026.
-
Yes, Lord. Somebody tonight needs TO GET
-
OUT OF THE DRIVER'S seat and let Jesus
-
take the wheel.
-
>> My bishop reminded me.
-
>> Yes, sir.
-
that when you are riding
-
you have a whole different temperament.
-
