  1. Come on, grab your Bibles as we get

  2. ready to make our confession today.

  3. Whether you have a paper Bible,

  4. electronic Bible, whether that's a phone

  5. or tablet, whatever it is that you have,

  6. come on, lift it up. And we make our

  7. confession. Say, "This is my Bible.

  8. >> This is my word.

  9. >> It is God's word.

  10. >> It reveals to me."

  11. >> It reveals

  12. >> God's will.

  13. >> Therefore,

  14. >> it's the final authority.

  15. >> The final

  16. >> to which I submit

  17. >> to settle all the issues

  18. >> all the issues

  19. >> of my life.

  20. >> It's the standard

  21. of my conduct

  22. >> of my conduct

  23. >> and the basis

  24. >> of all my expectation

  25. >> of all my expectations.

  26. >> Shout it out. I am

  27. >> I am

  28. >> what it says I am.

  29. >> what it says.

  30. >> I possess I

  31. >> what it says I possess.

  32. >> It says I

  33. >> and I can do

  34. >> I can do

  35. >> absolutely everything.

  36. >> Absolutely everything.

  37. >> It says I can do.

  38. >> It says I can do

  39. >> I'm a believer.

  40. >> Not a doubter.

  41. >> I'm a doer.

  42. >> Not just a hearer.

  43. >> In my life.

  44. >> My everyday life.

  45. is the better

  46. >> is the better

  47. >> after having heard

  48. >> after having

  49. >> the word of faith

  50. >> faith comes by hearing

  51. >> and hearing

  52. >> and hearing by

  53. >> the word of God word let's ride you may

  54. be seated in the presence of the Lord

  55. Amen

  56. chapter 9

  57. Mark

  58. chapter nine 9.

  59. For those who may not know, you are

  60. joining us today. We are in the midst of

  61. our 40-day fast. We in the short rows

  62. now.

  63. >> Yeah, we we we in the short rows now of

  64. the fast. And we have been journeying

  65. through the book of Mark every day, even

  66. on Sundays. And so, we're excited about

  67. continuing in that same path. Mark

    Mark 9 chapter mention

  68. chapter 9

  69. uh verse 42. I just want to read verse

  70. 42. And uh it says, "But whoever causes

  71. one of these little ones who believe in

  72. me to stumble,

  73. it would be better for him if a

  74. millstone were hung around his neck

  75. >> and he were thrown into the sea."

  76. >> My God. Jesus. He said, "It would be

  77. better for him if you cause one of these

  78. little ones who believe in me to

  79. stumble. It would be better for him if a

  80. millstone were hung around his neck and

  81. he were thrown into the sea." I want to

  82. preach to us from the subject today from

  83. millstones

  84. to stepping stones.

  85. >> From millstones

  86. to stepping stones.

  87. You know, this past Wednesday

  88. was our devotional where we were in this

  89. very same passage

  90. >> in Mark chapter 9.

    Mark 9 chapter mention

  91. >> And we were talking about identity

  92. protection.

  93. >> And immediately after devotional, Pastor

  94. Christie uh text me and said, "Pastor

  95. Trey, you can't let this one go so fast.

  96. I believe there's still some meat on the

  97. bone." Yeah.

  98. >> I don't know if you ever been to the if

  99. you're from the country and you ever

  100. seen anybody who eat chicken and they

  101. didn't eat it quite right.

  102. >> And if you from the country, you got a

  103. little attitude with them because

  104. because they left some meat

  105. >> on the bone. And she said, "Pastor Trev,

  106. I don't think we're done with this." And

  107. I had to agree. And God drew my

  108. attention back to this text for today

  109. because on Wednesday, we lean in on

  110. Jesus's conversation with his disciples

  111. as he raises the seriousness of the

  112. impact their sin has on others and

  113. themselves.

  114. We heard Jesus use some of the most

  115. shocking and violent language in the

  116. entire New Testament in verses 43, 45,

  117. and 47, saying, "If your hand causes you

  118. to sin, cut it off.

  119. >> If your foot leads you into sin, cut it

  120. off.

  121. >> And if your eye leads you into sin,

  122. pluck it out."

  123. Now Jesus is not prescribing physical

  124. selfmutilation.

  125. >> Amen.

  126. >> This is Jesus telling both the disciples

  127. and all who are following him that our

  128. identity as kingdom citizens is so

  129. precious

  130. >> and our influence on others is so heavy

  131. that anything threatening it must be

  132. handled with deliberate action. Amen.

  133. >> However, the reason that I have been

  134. drawn back to this text today is if

  135. we're not careful, we can walk away from

  136. this text thinking that we are the ones

  137. who have to fix ourselves.

  138. >> [clears throat]

  139. >> In his book, Invitation to a Journey,

  140. Robert Molhan writes, "Spiritual

  141. formation is a process of being

  142. conformed to the image of Christ for the

  143. sake of others."

  144. Notice that he does not say that it is a

  145. project that you conform yourself.

  146. >> It is a process of being conformed.

  147. Somebody shout being conformed.

  148. God is the one doing the work in you

  149. >> while he walks with you.

  150. >> H Isaiah 3:18 reminds us that and

    Isaiah 3:18

  151. therefore will the Lord wait that he may

  152. be gracious unto you. See, God isn't

  153. standing over you with a scapel waiting

  154. for you to fail.

  155. >> He is the great physician waiting for

  156. the opportunity to be gracious to you.

  157. Philippians chapter 2:13 says, "For it

  158. is God who works in you, both to will

  159. and to do according to his good

  160. pleasure."

  161. >> Understand something. You don't have to

  162. find the will to change on your own.

  163. >> YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIND THE WILL to

  164. change on your own.

  165. >> God provides the desire and the power.

  166. Amen.

  167. >> You and I just have to be obedient when

  168. he tells us what it is we need to do.

  169. >> Yeah. See, the question we must ask

  170. ourselves today is, how do I work in c

  171. in cooperation with the Holy Spirit for

  172. what needs to be cut off?

  173. See, the spirit not only shows us what

  174. to cut, but also empowers us to take the

  175. deliberate action. trusting that God's

  176. grace will sustain us through the

  177. process.

  178. >> Boy, that's good.

  179. >> Yeah. The spirit not only shows us what

  180. to cut, but also empowers us to take

  181. deliberate action trusting that God's

  182. grace will sustain us through the

  183. process.

  184. >> Ah, the first question I I want to pose

  185. and I think we need to answer today is

  186. how do I cut cut it off?

  187. uh how do I cut it off? Understand to be

  188. an effective witness for Jesus, we must

  189. identify exactly what needs to be cut so

  190. that our testimony remains sharp.

  191. >> Uh-huh.

  192. We must we must ask Holy Spirit

  193. to show us what needs to be cut so that

  194. our testimony will remain sharp. We

  195. cannot point people to the healer while

  196. we're holding on to the infection.

  197. >> Ah yeah. See and see while we often on

  198. the visible infections in our lives like

  199. substance abuse, lust and fornication.

  200. Yeah. In case you like me and grew up

  201. for a long time in church not knowing

  202. what fornication was, just hearing the

  203. saints say it. Fornication is when you

  204. have sex with anybody that you're not

  205. married to. Amen.

  206. >> So that means if you're not married, you

  207. shouldn't be having no sex. I'm I'm

  208. sorry. That's my girl. I love her. She

  209. saved the marriage now.

  210. BUT MOST TIMES WE JUMP ON THESE THE THE

  211. OUTWARD infections and we should BECAUSE

  212. THEY AFFECT OUR WITNESS.

  213. >> YEAH. We we we need we don't need to be

  214. sleeping around because that that

  215. impacts our witness.

  216. >> Amen. We don't need to be stealing and

  217. lying because that impacts our witness.

  218. WE SHOULDN'T BE CARRYING OUR NEPHEW AND

  219. OUR TAXES, ESPECIALLY IF THEY DON'T STAY

  220. WITH US BECAUSE IT IMPACTS OUR WITNESS.

  221. >> Bishop taught us years ago that our

  222. witness is the only thing we have to win

  223. the loss.

  224. >> So, we must protect our witness at any

  225. cost.

  226. >> Amen. See, but the Holy Spirit goes

  227. deeper, revealing and addressing not

  228. just outward infections, but inward

  229. infections.

  230. >> The often undetectable sin that we also

  231. need to cut. See, just because others

  232. can't see it doesn't mean God has

  233. approved of it.

  234. >> Yeah, maybe you hide it from me, but it

  235. doesn't mean God has given you a green

  236. light to partake in it.

  237. >> Yeah. the inward infections. INWARD

  238. INFECTIONS LIKE LIKE BITTERNESS and and

  239. unforgiveness.

  240. >> Yeah. Just sit there. I'll be done when

  241. I get finished. Yeah. BITTERNESS AND

  242. UNFORGIVENESS ARE TOXIC heart conditions

  243. that stem stem from unresolved pain,

  244. >> unmet expectations

  245. or perceived injustices.

  246. >> Yeah. Yeah. Re re resentment, bitterness

  247. and and unforgiveness. It shows up in

  248. things like resentment over unmet

  249. expectations. You feel bitter because

  250. someone didn't meet your expectations,

  251. whether it was a spouse or a friend or a

  252. coworker, and you hold that against

  253. them.

  254. >> Somebody shout, "Cut it off."

  255. >> Cut it off.

  256. >> Cut it off BY ACKNOWLEDGING THAT PEOPLE

  257. ARE IMPERFECT.

  258. >> JUST LET ME STOP RIGHT THERE. PEOPLE ARE

  259. IMPERFECT.

  260. >> That people are imperfect.

  261. and release them from the unrealistic

  262. expectation of always meeting your

  263. needs.

  264. >> IT'S AN UNREAL IT'S AN UNREALISTIC

  265. EXPECTATION TO THINK THAT people going

  266. to always meet your needs.

  267. >> You don't always meet their needs.

  268. >> You looking for grace when you fall

  269. short.

  270. >> THEN YOU AND I MUST GIVE OTHERS THE SAME

  271. GRACE. Not if, BUT WHEN THEY FALL SHORT.

  272. [applause]

  273. Because if we don't, bitterness will set

  274. in

  275. >> and we'll WALK AROUND SHOUTING AND

  276. PRAISING AND RUNNING OVER TOP OF

  277. UNFORGIVENESS.

  278. >> I know ain't nobody going to say

  279. nothing.

  280. >> You and I must cut out bitterness and

  281. unforgiveness. It shows up when we

  282. compare our pain to others.

  283. >> Yeah. You feel bitterness because you

  284. believe others have it easier than you

  285. or haven't suffered as much as you have,

  286. leading to resentment toward them and

  287. even toward God.

  288. >> Somebody shout, "Cut it out."

  289. >> Cut it out.

  290. >> Yeah. You and I must cut it out BY

  291. SHIFTING OUR FOCUS TO gratitude

  292. >> for God's GRACE IN YOUR LIFE AND TRUST

  293. his plan even when you don't understand.

  294. >> See, IT'S EASY TO TRUST GOD WHEN

  295. EVERYTHING IS GOING WELL. BUT CAN YOU

  296. AND I TRUST GOD WHEN WE HAVE TEARS IN

  297. OUR EYES and pain IN OUR HEART?

  298. >> CAN YOU AND I TRUST GOD WHEN WE HAVE

  299. MORE QUESTIONS THAN WE DO ANSWERS?

  300. >> This is where this is where it meets us.

  301. BECAUSE YOU AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO

  302. HARBOR AND HOLD ON TO BITTERNESS AND

  303. UNFORGIVENESS. SOMEBODY SHOUT, "CUT it

  304. out."

  305. >> You and I must cut it out. You must we

  306. must cut out bitterness AND

  307. UNFORGIVENESS. BUT CATCH THIS. Here's a

  308. second ONE THAT WE DON'T TALK ABOUT

  309. OFTEN. WE HAVE TO CUT OUT COVETING.

  310. >> COVETOUSNESS. YEAH. WHAT IS COVETING?

  311. COVETING, catch this, is an intense

  312. selfish desire for something that

  313. belongs to someone else.

  314. >> Uhhuh. It's not merely admiring or

  315. wanting something, but rather it's a

  316. sinful longing that stems from greed,

  317. resentment, or discontentment.

  318. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You and I covenant.

  319. The Bible warns us not to covet, NOT TO

  320. WANT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE.

  321. >> YEAH. You can admire what they have. You

  322. can appreciate what THEY HAVE. BUT YOU

  323. AND I MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO WANT THAT

  324. WHICH somebody else has.

  325. You got to be careful because this thing

  326. IS SNEAKY.

  327. >> YEAH. IT SHOWS UP WHEN YOU RESENT A

  328. friend's success.

  329. >> Yeah. You see a friend get a promotion

  330. or achieve a milestone and instead of

  331. celebrating with them, you feel bitter

  332. and wish it had happened to you instead.

  333. >> This is not just admiration. It's a

  334. selfish longing that is rooted in

  335. discontentment with your own situation.

  336. Cut it out.

  337. >> Somebody shout, "Cut it out."

  338. >> Cut it out.

  339. >> Yeah. YOU AND I MUST CUT OUT COVETING.

  340. YEAH. WHAT IS COVETING? WHEN YOU ENVY

  341. SOMEBODY else's relationship.

  342. >> Talk, Holy Ghost.

  343. >> This is YOU DESIRING SOMEBODY ELSE'S

  344. SPOUSE,

  345. >> somebody else's significant other.

  346. >> Not just wishing for a loving

  347. relationship of your own,

  348. >> BUT SPECIFICALLY WANTING THEIR PARTNER.

  349. It's fueled by jealousy

  350. >> and dissatisfaction with your own life.

  351. >> See, THIS KIND OF STUFF IS SNEAKY.

  352. >> AND YOU AND I MUST ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT

  353. TO RUN A PSALMS 139 VERSE 23 AND 24.

    Psalms 139:23

  354. SEARCH ME, OH GOD.

  355. >> TRY ME AND KNOW MY HEART. AND IF YOU see

  356. >> any wicked way in me, lead me in the way

  357. everlasting.

  358. >> Woo!

  359. >> You and I MUST WATCH COVETING BECAUSE IT

  360. SHOWS UP AS JEALOUSY over material

  361. possessions.

  362. >> Yeah. A neighbor buys a new car or

  363. renovates their home and instead of you

  364. being happy for them, you feel

  365. resentment and and an intense desire to

  366. have what they have,

  367. >> believing that you deserve it more than

  368. they do.

  369. >> Somebody shout, "Cut it out."

  370. >> Cut it out.

  371. >> And I don't know why the Holy Ghost lead

  372. ME THIS WAY, BUT I JUST need to JUST

  373. RIDE WHILE I'M RIDING. THAT'S WHY YOU

  374. AND I MUST IN TERMS OF OUR GIVING must

  375. be led by the Holy Ghost.

  376. LET GOD WHEN YOU DOING FOR PEOPLE, BE

  377. LED BY THE HOLY GHOST BECAUSE THERE ARE

  378. SOME OF YOU WHO ARE LISTENING TO ME. YOU

  379. HAVE GIVEN and given and done and done

  380. for people and it's still not enough.

  381. >> AND CAN I TELL YOU, YOU CANNOT SATISFY

  382. SOMEBODY'S SPIRIT OF COVETOUSNESS.

  383. >> I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU GIVE. I DON'T CARE

  384. WHAT YOU DO. IF THEY'RE OPERATING OUT OF

  385. THE SPIRIT OF COVETEDNESS, THEY CATCH

  386. THIS. THEY DON'T WANT WHAT YOU GIVE

  387. THEM. THEY want what you have.

  388. [cheering]

  389. >> THAT'S WHY WHAT YOU GIVE THEM DON'T

  390. SATISFY THEM BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT

  391. WHAT YOU GIVE THEM. YOU KEEP FLIPPING

  392. THEM $20. THEY DON'T WANT THE $20. THEY

  393. WANT WHAT YOU HAVE.

  394. >> God knows I'M PREACHING.

  395. >> SOMEBODY SHOUT, "CUT IT OUT."

  396. >> IF MY EYE OFFENDS ME, CUT IT OUT.

  397. >> STOP WATCHING ALL THESE SOCIAL MEDIA

  398. INFLUENCES. IF IT'S CAUSING ME TO BECOME

  399. DISCONTENTED WITH MY LIFE, CUT IT OUT.

  400. >> I CAN'T GO AROUND THE CROWD. IF YOUR

  401. FOOT IS LEADING YOU AROUND CROWDS THAT

  402. IS CAUSING YOU TO BE JEALOUS, CUT IT

  403. OUT.

  404. >> I CAN'T GO AROUND THEM. I'M NOT MATURE

  405. ENOUGH TO BE AROUND IT.

  406. >> You and I have to cut it out. Understand

  407. something. Comparison is the thief of

  408. calling.

  409. Comparison is the thief of calling. I

  410. CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE

  411. MISSING THEIR CALLING BECAUSE THEY ARE

  412. COMPARING THEMSELVES WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

  413. >> OH, THEY CAN'T EVEN BE WHO GOD HAS

  414. CALLED THEM TO BE BECAUSE THEY ARE

  415. COMPARING THEMSELVES WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

  416. THEY'RE SCROLLING AND WATCHING HOW

  417. EVERYBODY DOES WHAT THEY DO AND THEY

  418. CAN'T STEP OUT AND DO IT THE WAY GOD HAS

  419. GIVEN IT TO THEM. THEY'RE COMPARING

  420. THEMSELVES WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND IT'S

  421. KILLING THEIR CALLING. [cheering]

  422. AMEN.

  423. >> Jesus said

  424. >> in Luke 12:1 15, "Take heed

    Luke 12:1

  425. [clears throat]

  426. and be on guard against covetousness."

  427. He said, "For one's life does not

  428. consist in the abundance of things that

  429. he possesses."

  430. >> Somebody shout, "Cut it out."

  431. >> Cut it out.

  432. understand that when the Holy Spirit is

  433. calling us to cut these things, he's

  434. calling us into partnership

  435. >> and he's calling us into partnership

  436. into a surgery to cut these things out.

  437. >> It's only half the battle.

  438. >> The other question on the table is why

  439. should I cut it out?

  440. Point number two,

  441. >> why you need to cut it out

  442. is because God has called you to be a

  443. stepping stone, not a stumbling block.

  444. >> See, see, the reason behind cutting it

  445. off is simply because, catch this,

  446. you've heard this before. Found people.

  447. >> Found people. Find people. Yeah. Found

  448. people. Found people. We aren't cutting

  449. off sin just to feel better about

  450. ourselves. I need you to hear me. We are

  451. doing it because someone is standing

  452. right behind us trying to see Jesus.

  453. >> I don't know whether you got that OR

  454. NOT. WE'RE NOT JUST CUTTING OFF SIN AND

  455. CUTTING things out of our lives THAT

  456. CAUSE US AND others to stumble just to

  457. just to cut it out. We're cutting IT OUT

  458. BECAUSE THERE'S SOMEBODY around us,

  459. somebody behind us who is trying to see

  460. the Jesus we serve.

  461. >> Woo.

  462. Listen to what Jesus said in Mark

    Mark 9:42

  463. chapter 9 verse 42. He says, "But

  464. whosoever

  465. causes one of these little ones who

  466. believes in me to stumble,"

  467. interesting verbiage.

  468. Whoever causes one of these little ones

  469. who believes in me to stumble,

  470. no, they didn't fall today,

  471. >> but they stumbled.

  472. >> Yeah, they may be still coming coming to

  473. church, BUT BUT BUT but something we may

  474. have done could have caused them

  475. >> to stumble.

  476. Yeah, they still on their feet today,

  477. but you don't even realize how much

  478. they're tripping mentally because of

  479. what they're watching us do.

  480. >> See, when Jesus is talking about one of

  481. the little ones in our text,

  482. >> he's talking about the new immature.

  483. Yeah,

  484. >> those who are new, those who are

  485. immature, but are highly vulnerable

  486. believers who are watching the lives of

  487. mature Christians

  488. >> to see what following God should look

  489. like.

  490. >> Understand something. They are also not

  491. just not just new believers, but also

  492. people who haven't even come to Jesus

  493. yet

  494. >> are watching us to see what followers

  495. should look like.

  496. So when we walk around not speaking and

  497. refusing to forgive each other, we are a

  498. stumbling block to other people.

  499. [cheering]

  500. >> When they see us CUSSING AND TALKING

  501. CRAZY ON SOCIAL MEDIA, WE ARE A

  502. STUMBLING BLOCK. I KNOW AIN'T NOBODY

  503. GOING TO SAY NOTHING. WE ARE A STUMBLING

  504. BLOCK. [applause and cheering]

  505. WHEN WE GET DOWN IN THE COMMENTS AND GET

  506. DOWN IN OUR CONVERSATION, WE ARE A

  507. STUMBLING BLOCK.

  508. >> When we see

  509. believers partaking in activities and

  510. SITTING IN PLACES THAT BELIEVERS SHOULD

  511. NOT be

  512. >> talk, Holy Ghost.

  513. >> Yeah. WHEN WHEN WHEN THEY SEE BELIEVERS,

  514. THOSE WHO ARE FOLLOWERS OF Jesus in

  515. places

  516. And in activities

  517. >> THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE,

  518. >> WE BECOME A STUMBLING BLOCK.

  519. [applause]

  520. >> THEY KNOW Y'ALL DATING, BUT WHEN YOUR

  521. NEIGHBORS SEE YOU COMING OUT THE HOUSE

  522. AT HER HOUSE AT 1:30 A.M., YOU BECOME A

  523. STUMBLING BLOCK.

  524. >> I know ain't nobody going to say nothing

  525. right there. I'M GOING JUST KEEP

  526. PREACHING. YOU A STUMBLING BLOCK.

  527. CATCH THIS. AND BEFORE YOU START TALKING

  528. TO ME AND RUNNING DOWN YOUR LIST OF YOUR

  529. RIGHTS

  530. AND YOUR FREEDOMS,

  531. >> LET ME REMIND YOU OF WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

  532. IN 1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 8:9. PAUL

  533. WRITES TO THE CORINTHIAN CHURCH. HE

  534. SAYS, "BUT BEWARE,

  535. >> lest somehow this liberty of yours

  536. >> BECOMES A STUMBLING BLOCK TO THOSE WHO

  537. ARE WEAK."

  538. >> Talk Bible.

  539. >> SEE, YOU AND I MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO

  540. HARP ON OUR FREEDOMS SO STRONGLY

  541. >> AND SO QUICKLY.

  542. >> THAT'S A PART OF WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR

  543. COUNTRY RIGHT NOW IS THAT EVERYBODY

  544. WANTS TO BE ALL ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS. AND

  545. WHAT IT IS THAT THEY CAN DO. DISCARDING

  546. THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO ARE NOT

  547. ABLE TO EAT. [cheering] AIN'T NOBODY

  548. GOING TO SAY NOTHING TO ME in here

  549. BECAUSE WE'RE SO ALL ABOUT OUR RIGHTS

  550. AND WHAT I can do.

  551. >> But I heard

  552. Dr. Alicia Brit Scholley say to me, "Can

  553. does not always equal should.

  554. [applause]

  555. >> JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DO IT,

  556. DOESN'T MEAN YOU should do it.

  557. >> Let me make this statement from the

  558. other day. Your liberty ends

  559. >> where your brother or sister's stumbling

  560. begins.

  561. >> Your liberty ends

  562. >> where your brother or sister's stumbling

  563. begins.

  564. Now, maybe you maybe you got a

  565. revelation on the scripture where it

  566. says a little wine for the belly.

  567. >> Y'all ain't going to say nothing to me.

  568. Let me just Yeah.

  569. >> Is that the organ?

  570. [music]

  571. >> Why is Chandler Moore in the middle of

  572. my sermon?

  573. That is good to me. [cheering]

  574. >> [cheering]

  575. >> Maybe you have some sort of revelation

  576. and you know you you you you know you

  577. take your little sip.

  578. But if your if your brother or sister

  579. stumbles at the sight of you

  580. >> with the glass,

  581. >> then then that's not the time to harp on

  582. your freedom.

  583. >> Because what love really say, the Bible

  584. says that the strong ought to bear the

  585. infirmity

  586. >> talk Bible of the weak. Which means that

  587. if if it's going to offend you or cause

  588. you to stumble or cause you to question

  589. or cause YOU TO DOUBT THAT I love you

  590. enough to refrain from it.

  591. [applause]

  592. >> Why? Because God has called us to be

  593. stepping stones,

  594. >> not stumbling blocks.

  595. >> H you and I have been called to be

  596. stepping stones in the kingdom. God has

  597. called us to be stepping stones. What is

  598. that? helping others to reach heights

  599. that they could never reach on their

  600. own.

  601. >> We see this throughout the Bible where

  602. people acted as stepping stones helping

  603. them to get to Jesus.

  604. >> In John chapter 1 verse 45, write it

    John 1:45

  605. down. Verse 45 and 46, Philip brings

  606. Nathaniel to Jesus. The Bible says in

  607. verse 45, Philip found Nathaniel and

  608. told him, "We have found the one Moses

  609. wrote about in the law and about whom

  610. the prophets also wrote that Jesus of

  611. Nazareth, who's the son of Joseph."

  612. >> And the Bible says, "Nathaniel replied

  613. to Philip's invitation."

  614. >> Nazareth,

  615. >> "Can any good thing

  616. >> come out of Nazareth?"

  617. >> And look AT PHILIP'S RESPONSE. PHILIP

  618. SAID, "COME and see.

  619. AH, SEE, PHILIP DIDN'T EVEN ARGUE TRYING

  620. TO CONVINCE NATHANIEL OF ANYTHING. HE

  621. LET NATHANIEL SAY WHAT IT IS HE WANTED

  622. TO SAY. HE JUST GAVE HIM THE INVITATION

  623. AND TOLD HIM TO COME AND SEE. CAN I TELL

  624. YOU THAT WHEN WE START HANDING OUT THESE

  625. INVITATIONS, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRY TO

  626. ARGUE WITH NOBODY.

  627. >> You don't have TO TRY TO FUSS WITH

  628. NOBODY. ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS HAND THEM

  629. THE CARD AND WHEN THEY START DOUBTING,

  630. JUST TELL THEM, "COME AND SEE.

  631. YOU MEAN TO TELL ME YOU BELIEVE JESUS IS

  632. ALIVE AND HE MOVED by his power?

  633. >> Come and see.

  634. >> You mean to tell me I CAN COME TO THIS

  635. CHURCH AND REALLY FIND REAL PEOPLE WHO

  636. LOVE GOD AND FIND REAL COMMUNITY?

  637. >> Come and see. You mean TO TELL ME THERE

  638. THERE'S A CHURCH THAT WILL LOVE YOU AND

  639. HELP YOU ALONG AND WON'T JUDGE YOU

  640. BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE EVERYBODY MATTERS

  641. TO GOD.

  642. >> YOU AIN'T GOT TO ARGUE WITH NOBODY. JUST

  643. TELL THEM COME AND SEE.

  644. PHILIP WAS A STEPPING stone

  645. >> to help Nathaniel get to Jesus.

  646. >> Yes, sir.

  647. >> Look at Naomi. Naomi was a stepping

  648. stone for Ruth.

  649. >> Ruth chapter 1:1 16. The Bible says Ruth

  650. said, "Entreat me not to leave you or to

  651. turn back from following after you. For

  652. wherever you go, I will go AND WHEREVER

  653. YOU LODGE, I WILL LODGE. YOUR PEOPLE

  654. SHALL BE MY PEOPLE AND YOUR GOD WILL BE

  655. MY GOD. LOOK AT NAOMI WAS A STEPPING

  656. stone for Ruth. RUTH DIDN'T KNOW

  657. ANYTHING about Jesus.

  658. >> SHE SHE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT GOD.

  659. And the Bible says that Ruth ends up

  660. being

  661. >> in the lineage of Jesus. Can I tell you,

  662. you don't know who you going to be

  663. witnessing to. [cheering]

  664. >> YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO YOU GOING TO BE

  665. HANDING THAT CARD TO.

  666. AMEN.

  667. >> You don't even know who you inviting.

  668. >> You don't know how God's going to use

  669. them.

  670. >> My mother, thank God. Mama, I see you

  671. watching. I love you, girl. My mama was

  672. invited to church some what am I 45 some

  673. 47 48 years ago by a teenager.

  674. a teenager invited her to church and and

  675. and she told her that she was coming and

  676. then she didn't go

  677. >> and the teenager saw her again and she

  678. said, "Miss Faith, you told me you were

  679. coming."

  680. >> And my mama said the conviction hit her

  681. so hard that she said, "You know what? I

  682. can't disappoint this girl. I got to go

  683. to this church."

  684. >> She went to that church and let me tell

  685. you something. Was Saints Temple Church

  686. of God in Christ. They got in there, got

  687. the shouting and dancing and the power

  688. of God was moving. AND MY MAMA SAID

  689. BEFORE SHE KNEW IT, SHE WAS STANDING TO

  690. THE FRONT.

  691. [laughter]

  692. That teenager had no idea

  693. that that lady she invited

  694. >> would one day birth a son who would be a

  695. pastor of a church.

  696. SHE HAD NO IDEA THAT THAT SAME WOMAN

  697. WOULD BIRTH A CHILD THAT WOULD IMPACT

  698. YOUTH ALL ACROSS THE STATE OF NORTH

  699. CAROLINA USING HER GIFT. SHE HAD NO

  700. CLUE.

  701. >> She was just a stepping stone.

  702. >> Somebody say, "I'm a stepping stone."

  703. >> You and I are called to be stepping

  704. stones. God wants to use our invitation

  705. to help somebody believe again.

  706. >> He wants to use our invitation to help

  707. somebody live again,

  708. >> to trust again,

  709. >> to dream again,

  710. >> to serve again.

  711. >> God wants TO USE US AS STEPPING STONES.

  712. >> Y'all know I got something, don't you?

  713. Only the people who are probably up

  714. under 5'6 knows what this is.

  715. My wife is 5'2. I ain't throwing no

  716. rocks.

  717. You know, just the other week, my wife

  718. beat me to the punch. Amazon just steals

  719. all your ability to be a good husband.

  720. >> [laughter]

  721. >> cuz I wanted to buy her a stepping stone

  722. tray. I mean step a stepping stool, you

  723. know, cuz there's some there's some

  724. there's some things in the kitchen.

  725. [laughter]

  726. >> You know, I walk I walk in the kitchen

  727. and open the cabinets and wonder why

  728. none of the third row

  729. I ain't reaching. I can't reach it.

  730. So I was going to buy her a stepping

  731. stool. She already got one. But what the

  732. stepping stool does, the stepping stool

  733. doesn't make the things in her in the

  734. kitchen hers.

  735. >> They already they already belong to her.

  736. >> I wish you hear me by the Holy Ghost.

  737. >> It already belongs to her,

  738. >> but she needs some help

  739. >> accessing

  740. >> what already belongs to her. CAN I TELL

  741. YOU THAT JESUS ALREADY DIED ON THE CROSS

  742. and shed his blood and THERE ARE THINGS

  743. THAT BELONG TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW IT.

  744. IT ALREADY BELONGS TO THEM.

  745. >> They just need some help.

  746. >> REACHING WHAT IT ALREADY BELONGS TO

  747. THEM. AND WHAT I'M TRYING TO TELL YOU IS

  748. THAT GOD WANTS TO USE YOU.

  749. >> He wants to use your life.

  750. >> He wants to use your testimony. He wants

  751. to use your invitation

  752. >> as a stepping stone

  753. >> to help people reach

  754. >> what already belongs to them.

  755. >> THE DREAMS ALREADY JESUS DIED FOR THEM

  756. TO HAVE IT.

  757. >> THE FREEDOM JESUS DIED FOR THEM TO HAVE

  758. IT.

  759. >> THE CLARITY OF MIND, JESUS DIED FOR THEM

  760. TO HAVE IT.

  761. >> All they need is a stepping stool.

  762. All they need is somebody

  763. >> to stop caring about their schedule long

  764. enough

  765. >> and stop caring about how people see

  766. them long enough

  767. >> to go out on a limb and invite them

  768. >> to say something to them.

  769. >> He's called us

  770. >> to be a stepping stool.

  771. >> Let me I'm going on this. Let me read to

  772. you exactly what God told me to say.

  773. See, because

  774. he's calling us

  775. from being millstones

  776. to stepping stones.

  777. >> Cornia, there's a there's a weight of

  778. glory.

  779. >> Yes, sir.

  780. >> That God has for us in this assignment.

  781. as we are moving into going to invite

  782. people to God's house that we're passing

  783. out, making 30,000 personal invitations.

  784. >> There's a weight of glory resting on us,

  785. a divine empowerment for the assignment

  786. that God has given us to go get them.

  787. >> Catch this. I want to read it just like

  788. I wrote it. In Mark 9:42, Jesus warned

    Mark 9:42

  789. of the crushing weight of a millstone

  790. for those who cause others to stumble.

  791. >> But today, the spirit of God says,

  792. "Cornia, you will not wear the weight of

  793. a millstone. I've called you to carry

  794. the weight of my glory.

  795. >> I've called you to carry the weight of

  796. my glory." God is smearing us with his

  797. love,

  798. >> with his spirit and with his presence so

  799. that when we step out and begin to

  800. invite people, we're not stepping out in

  801. our own power.

  802. >> We're not stepping out in our own

  803. strength.

  804. >> We're not stepping out in our own

  805. charisma. The Bible says in Zechariah

    Zechariah 4:6

  806. 4:6, "Not by might,

  807. >> nor by power, but by my spirit, saith

  808. the Lord." You and I have a smearing of

  809. God on us.

  810. >> Somebody asked the other week, "What

  811. what should I do with that anointing oil

  812. that I got in my communion bag?" Put

  813. some oil on your head

  814. >> RIGHT BEFORE YOU ANOINT YOURSELF

  815. >> before you get out.

  816. TAKE YOUR STACK OF CARS AND TAKE A

  817. LITTLE OIL. NOW, DON'T GREASE THEM DOWN

  818. so they they can't it slide out the

  819. hand, BUT ANOINT THE CARS. I KNOW THEY

  820. SOUND OLDFASHIONED,

  821. >> BUT I BELIEVE

  822. >> I STILL BELIEVE.

  823. >> ANOINT THAT CAR. SAY, "GOD, I THANK YOU

  824. >> THAT YOUR POWER AND YOUR PRESENCE REST

  825. ON THESE CARS." AND THAT GOD, WHEN I

  826. HAND IT TO THEM, LET YOUR POWER AND YOUR

  827. STRENGTH AND YOUR ANOINTING ARREST THEM.

  828. >> DON'T LET THEM REST UNTIL THEY COME TO

  829. THE HOUSE. BREAK UP EVERY PLAN. DISRUPT

  830. EVERY BOOTY CALL UNTIL THEY FIND YOU.

  831. GOOD GOD.

  832. >> OH, I BELIEVE IT still works.

  833. Woo.

  834. I'M TALKING TO SOMEBODY WHO KNOW WHAT

  835. I'M TALKING ABOUT. WHO HAD A PRAYING

  836. GRANDMAMA AND YOU WENT OUT AND GOT DRUNK

  837. ONE NIGHT AND THAT HENNESSY DIDN'T HIT

  838. THE SAME BECAUSE SOMEBODY HAD BEEN

  839. PRAYING FOR YOU.

  840. >> I'm telling you, there's a weight of

  841. glory on us.

  842. >> HE BY THE HOLY GHOST, THERE'S A WEIGHT

  843. OF GLORY ON US. THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE

  844. THAT GOD WILL SEND YOU BACK TO

  845. >> WHO SAID NO IN ONE SEASON, BUT YOU GOT A

  846. WEIGHT OF GLORY ON YOU IN THIS SEASON.

  847. >> That's what I come to tell us.

  848. We're moving from we will not wear the

  849. weight of a millstone. Amen.

  850. >> We will not wear the weight of a

  851. millstone by causing other people to

  852. stumble because of our lives.

  853. >> We will not wear the weight of a

  854. millstone because we've missed

  855. opportunities to invite people to Jesus.

  856. >> No. God has called us to be stepping

  857. stones.

  858. >> To break past the discomfort,

  859. to break past the feeling of I don't

  860. know. I get it. But take a moment and

  861. pray

  862. >> and say, "Lord, I thank you. I thank you

  863. for the people that you used in my life

  864. >> as stepping stones. And Father, help me

  865. to be to somebody else what somebody

  866. else was to me. I

  867. >> I'mma close. I'm gone on this." But I

  868. was just sitting back thinking about the

  869. stepping stones in my life and and I

  870. thought about a old name.

  871. >> Some of the old saints will remember

  872. this guy. This guy JJ McQueen.

  873. JJ McQueen was a football player at ECU

  874. and this bag of God this I graduated 98

  875. so 9798

  876. JJ McQueen was working he was a ECU

  877. player but he was a member of Cornia

  878. but in the summertime he was working at

  879. the Boys and Girls Club in Aiden

  880. and so all of us you know just thought

  881. he was the greatest thing since sliced

  882. bread 6'4 look like somebody chiseled

  883. pull him out a rock, he could shoot a

  884. basketball.

  885. And I can remember he would he would get

  886. us all in and we'd be playing

  887. basketball, be beating us up, knocking

  888. us down, the whole nine, having a great

  889. time. But then when we got a chance to

  890. sit down, he would invite us to this

  891. place called Cornia.

  892. >> He said, "Y'all, I want y'all to come

  893. and and visit my church. It's a place

  894. called Cornelia." We like corner what?

  895. He said, "Cornia,

  896. it's a cool place. The the pastor can

  897. preach. You need to come and you need to

  898. pull up." I'm a senior in

  899. [clears throat] high school.

  900. >> Who knew?

  901. [applause]

  902. >> Who knew?

  903. >> He didn't know. My God,

  904. >> he was just being a stepping stone.

  905. >> Who knew?

  906. >> What I'm telling us is you don't know

  907. >> who God is sitting across your path.

  908. >> You don't know

  909. >> who God's going to have you put that

  910. invitation in their hands.

  911. >> And they were considering killing

  912. themselves or giving up on God

  913. >> or just being like, "You know what?

  914. Forget it.

  915. I'm telling you that God has called us

  916. to be stepping stones.

  917. >> And this week, we're getting ready to

  918. go, but this as we get ready to leave

  919. today, we're going to those we're going

  920. to receive a stack like this. Now, let

  921. me just say this.

  922. I want everybody to do it. Somebody

  923. shout, "Everybody."

  924. >> Everybody.

  925. >> I want everybody to grab a stack. But I

  926. only need you to grab one if you're

  927. going to commit to handing it to a

  928. person.

  929. >> Okay? Just let me be clear. Uh we're not

  930. going to windshield these.

  931. >> You know what I mean by windshield? Go

  932. just stick them on a bunch of cards.

  933. We're not going to do that.

  934. >> No, we're we're going to sew this into a

  935. person.

  936. >> We're going to plant the card into a

  937. person. We want, hey, I want you to I

  938. want you to come and be be a part of my

  939. our church is having a service on Easter

  940. Sunday, April 5th. I want you to come

  941. and be my guest.

  942. >> Look them in the eyes and hand it to

  943. him.

  944. >> That's all.

  945. >> Look them in the eyes and I would love

  946. for you to come. We believe everybody

  947. matters to God

  948. >> and you matter to us. Will you come and

  949. be my guest?

  950. >> Hand it to him.

  951. >> Amen.

  952. >> Invite them.

  953. >> On the front it says, "Be my guest." and

  954. it has the the worship encounter times

  955. 7:30, 9:30, and 12:30. And then on the

  956. back, it has our regular service times

  957. >> and the times of our circles on

  958. Wednesday because what I believe is if

  959. they don't come on the 5th,

  960. >> you put a rock in their shoe.

  961. >> And we want to have these in place,

  962. >> I want this card to be there for them

  963. WHEN LIFE HAPPENS.

  964. WOO.

  965. >> I wish I knew some people who didn't

  966. take the first invitation that somebody

  967. gave you.

  968. >> Yeah. Yeah. I I didn't take the first

  969. invitation somebody gave me.

  970. >> But I remember when life started beating

  971. my behind

  972. and I felt like Chris Rock in New Jack

  973. City. Do you got any more of that Jesus

  974. you were talking about? [laughter]

  975. You got any more that that prayer?

  976. [laughter]

  977. >> God is calling us y'all

  978. >> to be millstones.

  979. >> I mean to be stepping stones.

  980. >> We will not be millstones.

  981. >> We will be those

  982. who will walk in a way that will honor

  983. God. That's not being perfect.

  984. >> It's being obedient.

  985. >> And we will take every opportunity and

  986. every advantage that we have to invite

  987. somebody to his house.

  988. >> Let's pray.

  989. [applause]

  990. >> Our father and our God, we thank you for

  991. this day. Lord, we thank you for what

  992. you are doing through us.

  993. Father, we are grateful for everything

  994. you've done for us and that you continue

  995. to do for us, but Lord, you are calling

  996. us

  997. in this season

  998. to go get [music] them. Father, we will

  999. not just be those who bask in the safety

1000. of our salvation, but Lord, we will be

1001. those who are grateful for what you have

1002. done in us that we'll go and say

1003. something to somebody else and invite

1004. them and be a stepping stone, bringing

1005. them one step closer to you. Father, we

1006. thank you for the smearing, the

1007. anointing, your love that you have shed

1008. abroad in our hearts. Father, I thank

1009. you that as we will receive our stack of

1010. cards and move forward into this week

1011. that Lord, we'll do it with boldness,

  1012. with a passion,

1013. with a appreciation for all that you

1014. have done in our lives.

1015. And Lord, we won't, like you told

1016. Jeremiah, we will not be afraid of their

1017. faces for Lord, you'll be with us to

1018. deliver us wherever we go. And so we

1019. thank you for it now in Jesus name.
