  1. all right if you have a Bible or an app

  2. let's open it up We are back in the book

  3. of Acts as we tackle week 28 of our

  4. sermon series and we're going to be in

  5. Acts chap 11 We're going to be looking

  6. at 18 verses Now because we have our

  7. ministry fair I am going to try rather

  8. hard to keep my sermon to 20 minutes

  9. although I probably will not I can't

  10. promise you that I can We're going to

  11. look at an incredible picture that we

  12. have seen multiple times if you've been

  13. with us over the last couple weeks as we

  14. look back on Acts chapter 10 for example

    Acts 10 chapter mention

  15. where where Peter receives this vision

  16. from heaven It's a vision of a sheet

  17. that is descending from heaven We'll

  18. read as Peter recounts his vision and at

  19. the same time tens of miles away there

  20. is a Roman centurion by the name of

  21. Cornelius who likewise receives a vision

  22. from God And what you have happening

  23. here is this

  24. divine orchestration of God bringing two

  25. people who are polar opposite of one

  26. another from different belief system

  27. different cultures different traditions

  28. bringing them

  29. together under the banner of the gospel

  30. So as we look here at Acts chap 11 Peter

  31. begins to recount his vision We'll begin

  32. here in verse one Says "Now the apostles

  33. and the brothers who were throughout

  34. Judea heard that the Gentiles had

  35. received the word of God." Now mind you

  36. this is before Peter has made his way

  37. back and yet word is traveling fast

  38. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem the

  39. circumcision party criticized him saying

  40. "You went to uncircumcised men and ate

  41. with them." But Peter began and

  42. explained it to them in order Now what

  43. we have happening here in verses 5-1 17

  44. is going to sound pretty familiar to us

  45. because we've already read it back in

  46. Acts chap 10 Peter is recounting this

  47. vision He is explaining to them the

  48. story of God giving him a vision It's

  49. not any vision It's not a random vision

  50. It is a vision with purpose What's that

  51. vision Peter begins to say in verse 5 I

  52. was in the city of Japa praying and in a

  53. trance I saw a vision something like a

  54. great sheet descending being let down

  55. from heaven by its four corners and it

  56. came down to me Looking at it closely I

  57. observed animals and beasts of prey and

  58. reptiles and birds of the air And I

  59. heard a voice saying to me this is key

  60. right here These words that Peter hears

  61. from heaven Let me tell you why this is

  62. so important Because remember Peter is

  63. Jewish His entire life has been molded

  64. formed and shaped by Jewish laws by

  65. Jewish purification and and ceremonial

  66. rituals Jewish culture and tradition And

  67. when Peter hears this voice from heaven

  68. it is

  69. shocking because Peter has not been

  70. formed and shaped by a belief system

  71. that would allow him to eat anything

  72. that is unclean Let's see how it plays

  73. out This voice from heaven said "Rise

  74. Peter kill and eat." Peter responds "I

  75. said by no means Lord for nothing common

  76. or unclean has ever entered my mouth."

  77. But the voice answered a second time

  78. from heaven "What God has made clean do

  79. not call

  80. common." This happened three times

  81. That's very significant We'll get into

  82. that later on this morning And all was

  83. drawn up again into heaven And behold at

  84. that very moment three men arrived at

  85. the house in which we were sent to me

  86. from Cesaria And the spirit told me to

  87. go with them making no

  88. distinction Who are the men sent by They

  89. were sent by Cornelius who is Roman To

  90. put another biblical phrase on that who

  91. is a gentile We've heard this phrase

  92. before A gentile is an umbrella term

  93. that defines anyone who is not

  94. Jewish You were either a Jew or you were

  95. a non-Jew If you were a non-Jew you were

  96. a Gentile You did not hang out with

  97. someone who was not from your

  98. neighborhood who didn't go to the same

  99. church who didn't think like you thought

  100. who didn't eat like you ate who didn't

  101. dress like you dress You did not hang

  102. out with them lest you be considered

  103. unclean And now Peter has these men who

  104. according to Jewish rich and deep Jewish

  105. tradition and history their boss has

  106. received a vision just like Peter They

  107. go to summon Peter And

  108. Peter makes no distinction between Jew

  109. and Gentile This created an issue Did

  110. you pick up on that What issue did it

  111. create Back up in verse three It says

  112. "You went to uncircumcised men and ate

  113. with them." More on that here in just a

  114. moment These six brothers verse 12 also

  115. accompanied me and we entered the man's

  116. house He told us how he had seen the

  117. angel stand in his house and say "Send

  118. to Japa and bring Simon who is called

  119. Peter He will declare to you a message

  120. by which you will be saved you and your

  121. household As I began to speak the Holy

  122. Spirit fell on them just as on us at the

  123. beginning It's a reference to

  124. Pentecost And I remembered the word of

  125. the Lord how he said "John baptized with

  126. water but you will be baptized with the

  127. Holy Spirit If then God gave the same

  128. gift to them as he gave to us when we

  129. believed in the Lord Jesus

  130. Christ Don't miss Don't miss what Peter

  131. says Who was

  132. I that I could stand in God's way I'm

  133. jumping the gun here but I want to

  134. challenge us with this this morning

  135. So often we will not recognize a

  136. movement of God because our selfish

  137. preferences stand in the way Because our

  138. own desires stand in the way Because we

  139. operate under a kingdom mentality of

  140. self rather than a mentality of God's

  141. kingdom And God is always working God is

  142. always moving And God is always

  143. orchestrating things to bring about his

  144. plan his purpose and his will And it

  145. could be that today the reason you are

  146. not recognizing God's movement in your

  147. life is because you are standing in the

  148. way Verse

  149. 18 When they heard these things they

  150. fell

  151. silent and they glorified God saying

  152. "Then to the Gentiles also God has

  153. granted repentance that leads to life."

  154. And all God's people said "Amen." Lord

  155. would you bless your word Holy Spirit

  156. would you stir our hearts this morning

  157. You know if you're like me then maybe

  158. you are a person who loves to have a

  159. rhythm that is uninterrupted in your

  160. life Maybe you're very organized Maybe

  161. you wake up and your day is already

  162. ordered out And when something shifts or

  163. takes you off rhythm and and throws your

  164. entire order offkilter it could create

  165. some frustrating moments maybe emotions

  166. of anger or doubt And although God

  167. indeed is a God of order did you know

  168. that God often does not work according

  169. to your plan and my

  170. plan Often what we find is that the God

  171. of the scriptures most often is a God of

  172. interruption What does that mean God

  173. will interrupt your rhythm in order to

  174. point you to his greater purpose God

  175. will interrupt your plans in order to

  176. demonstrate the power of his plans As a

  177. matter of fact the scripture is filled

  178. with references to this The Psalms and

  179. the Proverbs will declare things like

  180. this Many are the plans in a man's heart

  181. but it's the purpose of God that

  182. prevails Elsewhere we'll read that there

  183. is a way that leads to life that's found

  184. in Christ But there is also a way that

  185. leads to death and that has a life that

  186. is addicted to sin evil and

  187. chaos God is a God who many times will

  188. do unexpected things in our life And

  189. when we look here at Acts chap 11 we

  190. find God doing exactly that God moving

  191. in

  192. unexpected ways and he does unexpected

  193. things in order to point us to his

  194. greater

  195. purpose If you're taking notes this

  196. morning I want to show you four scenes

  197. that play out in our passage this

  198. morning Four scenes that will move the

  199. people of God from criticism to

  200. worship from doubt to joy As Peter

  201. begins to explain a movement of God that

  202. happened in the most unexpected way if

  203. you're taking notes here's the first one

  204. Don't resist the work of

  205. God I've said it before Often times God

  206. is moving and God is working And the

  207. reason we don't recognize it is because

  208. we stand in the way Go back with me to

  209. verse one

  210. Now the apostles and the brothers who

  211. were throughout Judea heard that the

  212. Gentiles had also received the word of

  213. God So when Peter went up to Jerusalem

  214. the circumcision party criticized him

  215. And what did they say They brought this

  216. accusation against Peter And the

  217. accusation is this You went to

  218. uncircumcised men and ate with them

  219. You know in some way we've all

  220. experienced this criticism or we've

  221. experienced this resistance to God's

  222. work Maybe we've been on the side of the

  223. one who's been critical of the one who's

  224. resisted a movement of God for whatever

  225. reason mainly because of the sin in our

  226. own life Or maybe we've been on the

  227. receiving end where someone has not

  228. believed a movement of God in our life

  229. They've pointed to past They pointed to

  230. former sins and they've not recognized

  231. God's work in our life if they become

  232. skeptical But this unexpected movement

  233. of God has now begun to spread far and

  234. wide It went from Cesaria to Jerusalem

  235. to Japa to the neighboring regions And

  236. instead of joy instead of celebration

  237. what did they do They criticized

  238. Not for preaching heresy not for Peter's

  239. lack of faith but because Peter went to

  240. someone's

  241. house You went to uncircumcised men and

  242. ate with them What we find here is this

  243. is a major heart

  244. issue Peter was crossing religious

  245. boundaries He was crossing social

  246. boundaries He was operating now outside

  247. of culture history and deeprooted

  248. traditions And it upset people How often

  249. can we relate to

  250. this They didn't recognize the miracle

  251. because they were too focused on the

  252. method They didn't recognize a movement

  253. of God because they were too focused on

  254. selfish preferences Those people don't

  255. look like us Peter They don't act like

  256. us They don't dress like us They don't

  257. vote like us They don't watch or listen

  258. to the same things as us Peter how in

  259. the world could you go to

  260. them And I love how Peter

  261. responds Peter doesn't give a

  262. defense Peter doesn't give his opinion

  263. What does Peter do Peter simply shares

  264. the story I received a vision from God

  265. And so here's here's the takeaway from

  266. this

  267. You can either resist what God is doing

  268. or you can rejoice at what God is doing

  269. You can complain at the way God is

  270. moving in the lives of his people Or you

  271. can choose to step into praise and

  272. worship on how God is moving in the

  273. lives of his people They missed the

  274. miracle because they were focused on the

  275. method So what about

  276. us What about you Are there areas in

  277. your life where you are resisting

  278. God Maybe turning from him simply

  279. because it doesn't fit into your plan I

  280. get it You've planned out your day

  281. You've planned out your year You've

  282. planned out your weeks Maybe some of us

  283. we have the next 5 to 10 years planned

  284. out for

  285. us Let me tell you right now it will

  286. never go according to your plan

  287. It will always go according to

  288. God's And the quicker we step into that

  289. truth the quicker we step into what God

  290. is doing and how he is moving the better

  291. off we will be Circumstances may not

  292. change Your season of life may not be

  293. any different But I'll tell you what

  294. will change Your

  295. heart the way you think about it the way

  296. you perceive it your focus and your

  297. perspective begins to shift And here in

  298. just a moment we'll learn about the

  299. shift of the uncircumcised party as they

  300. now glorify God As they now recognize

  301. that the same spirit that saved them and

  302. filled them on the day of Pentecost is

  303. the same spirit that indwells all

  304. believers And another question to

  305. confront this morning is does that

  306. spirit dwell in you

  307. Let's never let the

  308. method allow us to miss the

  309. miracle Let's not be so committed to our

  310. plan that we resist the purpose of God

  311. This this goes right into segus right

  312. into the next scene that we see here in

  313. our passage and that's this that we are

  314. to trust God's will I think of all the

  315. scenes that we see here in our passage

  316. This is my favorite one because for

  317. Peter it was very easy to trust God's

  318. will He literally saw a sheet descending

  319. from heaven He literally heard a booming

  320. voice from the sky And so if you're

  321. anything like me you read this and it

  322. creates a tension for you Sure if I had

  323. a vision of a sheep descending from the

  324. sky and if I heard a booming voice from

  325. heaven telling me what to do then I

  326. would absolutely trust God's will

  327. Here's the reality though God's will

  328. sometimes is displayed to us very

  329. clearly Other times and oftentimes it's

  330. displayed to us very

  331. subtly The question is not why won't God

  332. clearly show me what to do next The

  333. question is will you obey

  334. just as long as God shows you the next

  335. step

  336. He may not show you the full picture

  337. Often times he doesn't But he'll show

  338. you just enough so that you can take the

  339. next step of obedience Go back with me

  340. Starting in verse four Peter began and

  341. explained to them in order I was in the

  342. city of Japa praying and in a trance I

  343. saw a vision He begins to share the

  344. story He's not defensive He's not being

  345. opinionated He is saying "Hey this is

  346. the reason I was there I saw a vision

  347. And then notice in verse nine what Peter

  348. says that the voice says "What God has

  349. made clean do not call

  350. common." Peter's sharing God's purpose

  351. God's plan here for the salvation of

  352. nations We've been saying it often

  353. throughout the last couple of weeks in

  354. this series the fulfillments of what the

  355. prophet Isaiah declared that salvation

  356. will go to the ends of the earth It's

  357. not a salvation of a particular nation

  358. of a particular people group of a

  359. particular political party It is

  360. salvation of all people And what does

  361. that mean That means every people group

  362. every tribe every language every culture

  363. every ethnicity will be represented in

  364. the kingdom of God There's a beautiful

  365. mosaic a tapestry of his creative people

  366. the ones that he breathed life into His

  367. imagebearers joined

  368. together under the banner of his glory

  369. to praise and worship him for all

  370. eternity This should move us into

  371. greater trust of God's will But notice

  372. here what Peter highlights in verse

  373. 10 Peter said this happened three

  374. times Now if you're familiar with the

  375. pattern scripture this is a pattern we

  376. see that's really prevalent throughout

  377. the Old Testament and New Testament The

  378. number three is an indicator of

  379. wholeness of completion of of finality

  380. to to hear something once you might

  381. believe it you might not To hear

  382. something twice is is added emphasis and

  383. credibility To hear something three

  384. times in Jewish culture and in Jewish

  385. tradition was to say this is absolute

  386. truth And when Peter declares this

  387. happened to me three times it signified

  388. that this confirmation from God was even

  389. stronger that that God wasn't just

  390. working on Peter He wasn't just working

  391. through Peter but but likewise God was

  392. also preparing Cornelius Now now let me

  393. pause here and and let me focus on this

  394. for just a moment as God is working in

  395. you right now Whatever it is

  396. maybe may maybe God has a promotion at

  397. work for you Maybe maybe God's working

  398. through your finances Maybe he's working

  399. through your health Maybe he's working

  400. through relationships Maybe you you are

  401. in a season where you feel God is

  402. working I want you to know that whoever

  403. else is involved in what God is doing in

  404. your life whoever else is on the path

  405. that God has laid before you God is

  406. working in that and through that as

  407. well We serve a God of the

  408. orchestra who is commanding and

  409. declaring every tone every melody every

  410. note to be played He has your life

  411. planned

  412. out And the scripture says that no

  413. matter what is on that path no matter

  414. how that plan plays out in your life it

  415. is for his glory church it is always for

  416. his glory And watch this It is for the

  417. good of his people Which is why the

  418. brother of Jesus James could say that

  419. through trial and tribulation I discover

  420. a joy that's

  421. unspeakable That's why Paul could

  422. declare to the church in Rome that it's

  423. through trial and suffering that that

  424. hope is magnified Why Because I know

  425. that the God who saved me and the God

  426. who works through me he has finished the

  427. story And that story is one of victory

  428. one of salvation one where we will be

  429. with him for ever and ever And so Peter

  430. arrives He arrives to Cornelius home

  431. What does he find He finds a man who is

  432. ready to receive the message He has

  433. already been prepared God's will is

  434. coming to pass Two individuals from

  435. separate sides of the track from

  436. different traditions histories and

  437. cultures both trusting in God's will to

  438. bring about

  439. what The truth that God's spirit is for

  440. you It's for me It's for everyone who

  441. calls upon his

  442. name Now again I I I get that we don't

  443. have this Peter

  444. moment We don't experience Moses moments

  445. with the burning bush We don't

  446. experience Elijah moments with booming

  447. voices from the

  448. sky But I tell you what we do have We

  449. have the written word of

  450. God In these last days God has spoken to

  451. us through his son Jesus And let me tell

  452. you Jesus is more than

  453. enough Jesus is all that we will ever

  454. need Let me tell you why faith is so

  455. important The scripture declares

  456. "Blessed are those who have not seen and

  457. yet

  458. believe." Did you know in the ministry

  459. of Jesus right throughout his gospel

  460. ministry the people were so

  461. hardarted against the ministry of

  462. Christ that this was declared even if

  463. someone was resurrected from the grave

  464. you still wouldn't believe

  465. It's a clear example of a Paul writes to

  466. the Corinthian church that there is this

  467. veil of sin that blinds you from God at

  468. work So what do you do You don't resist

  469. the movement of God You step into a

  470. movement of God You rejoice at the

  471. movement of

  472. God No matter the method you rejoice in

  473. the

  474. miracle You trust in God's will You

  475. trust in God's plan

  476. And the question isn't will God make

  477. this clear enough The real question is

  478. am I ready to

  479. obey even if he only shows the next

  480. step God confirms his will sometimes

  481. clearly sometimes slow but always enough

  482. for

  483. obedience Let's look at the third

  484. picture we see here in our passage It's

  485. this God gives the same spirit to all Go

  486. with me to verse 15

  487. Peter says "As I began to speak the Holy

  488. Spirit fell on them just as on us at the

  489. beginning." This is

  490. critical What is Peter declaring

  491. Peter he's saying this is not a lesser

  492. version This is not a different spirit

  493. There's not a different plan for them

  494. The same God who saved us The same God

  495. who spoke creation into existence is the

  496. same God that dwells in those who were

  497. once considered our

  498. enemies The ones who were once

  499. considered unclean The ones that we

  500. would turn our backs on The ones that we

  501. would declare have no business in the

  502. kingdom of God God is clearly

  503. demonstrating that the same spirit that

  504. has saved them that descended on them in

  505. Pentecost that erupted in manifestation

  506. of tongues is the same spirit that saves

  507. others that saves

  508. all And then

  509. Peter Peter he declares "If God gave

  510. them the same gift as he gave to us when

  511. we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ who

  512. was I that I could stand in the way?"

  513. Right That's the

  514. question Who are we that we should stand

  515. in the way of God's plan God's power and

  516. God's purpose I'm a firm believer in

  517. this I've experienced it in 20 plus

  518. years of ministry I'm a firm believer

  519. that that churches are often halted and

  520. stopped against the type of outreach and

  521. the type of impact they can have in the

  522. communities in which they exist Not

  523. because of exterior factors but because

  524. of interior

  525. turmoil Maybe you've heard it this way

  526. before We are our greatest enemy

  527. You know I've been in a tension over the

  528. last couple of weeks I don't know what

  529. God is doing in my life I I don't know

  530. what God is stirring in me But but but

  531. there's been a a tension of of

  532. dissatisfaction And as I was as I was

  533. thinking this week this term came to

  534. mind a holy

  535. dissatisfaction And not that I'm

  536. ungrateful for what God has done And I

  537. am I'm

  538. absolutely thrilled and continue to

  539. remain in awe of how God moves in this

  540. place through our church through your

  541. lives and in our community But but

  542. there's something in me that just craves

  543. more of

  544. God And so I've been going through

  545. particular spiritual disciplines trying

  546. to to pinpoint what it is And then I had

  547. this epiphany I was able to verbalize it

  548. with friends able to verbalize it with

  549. staff And I and I had this epiphany this

  550. this this Holy Spirit moment where where

  551. God just revealed to me that that often

  552. times where we experience the greatest

  553. parts of his presence is when we just

  554. sit in the

  555. tension And maybe right now you're

  556. sitting in the tension of

  557. something Maybe a relationship maybe

  558. marriage maybe maybe family related

  559. workrelated maybe you're sitting in the

  560. tension of something and you're wanting

  561. to know God's next move What is his plan

  562. behind this

  563. God speak to me clearly And and though

  564. it may often feel like God is silent

  565. church let me tell you God is never

  566. silent The best way I've heard it

  567. explained before is when a parent is

  568. teaching their child to walk what what

  569. what does a parent do as that child

  570. begins to take their first step their

  571. second step their third their third step

  572. What does a parent do The parent begins

  573. to draw back The parent begins to draw

  574. back Not because the parent wants to

  575. distance

  576. themselves in some chaotic or evil way

  577. from their child but the parent distance

  578. themselves in order that the child would

  579. draw

  580. nearer that the child would recognize

  581. and gaze upon the beauty and the glory

  582. that exists in front of them And what is

  583. there when that child makes it to mom or

  584. dad There's rejoicing And and often

  585. times in the tension what what we can

  586. experience is that moment where where

  587. God is pulling us in He is drawing us in

  588. And what do we do in that time We trust

  589. God's

  590. will We be filled We are filled with his

  591. Holy Spirit We don't resist his work And

  592. sometimes because of selfish

  593. preference we're not surprised by what

  594. God does We're offended by what God

  595. does This is what Peter's bringing to

  596. light here when he says "Who was I to

  597. stand in God's

  598. way Who was I to gatekeep the

  599. truth Who was I to say there's there's

  600. there's only one way for these things to

  601. be done?" We're no strangers to that are

  602. we

  603. not For some of us there's only one way

  604. to get a water

  605. burger right Number five mayo no mustard

  606. extra bacon a whole jalapeno on the side

  607. spicy regular ketchup Amen Right there

  608. There's only one

  609. way for us to do

  610. things And when something else is

  611. introduced to us we criticize we scoff

  612. we stand in the way But here's what God

  613. wants to do for us

  614. God wants to stretch us God wants to

  615. stretch our categories stretch our

  616. preferences stretch our pretenses He

  617. wants to confront our

  618. biases We're not

  619. gatekeepers in that we only share the

  620. gospel with people who we think should

  621. hear the gospel This is what was

  622. happening here They did not believe that

  623. God's spirit was for

  624. all But it

  625. is let's look at the fourth picture here

  626. is that God's work leads to worship Did

  627. you recognize that Did you recognize the

  628. shift that took place from verse one to

  629. verse 18 Let me read it When they heard

  630. these things they fell

  631. silent I love

  632. how how Luke is sharing this picture I I

  633. think of course this is this is just me

  634. thinking Luke wrote the Gospel of Luke

  635. right You all should have knew that Luke

  636. wrote the Gospel of Luke Luke was a

  637. gentile And so Luke who's writing the

  638. history of the New Testament church I

  639. can imagine the the joy and the angst

  640. and the excitement that he's feeling as

  641. he gets to share this Because later on

  642. we'll learn in our series in Acts

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  643. chapter 15 this is going to be very

  644. profound This is going to be the case

  645. study for the Jerusalem Council in Acts

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  646. chapter 15 as they finally declare that

  647. Gentiles are part of the kingdom That

  648. the same spirit that filled the Jews is

  649. the same spirit that fills everyone else

  650. who calls upon the name of Jesus And so

  651. when they heard these things they fell

  652. silent and they glorified God

  653. Silence is often a precursor to

  654. glory So don't feel

  655. ashamed Don't give

  656. up Press against your doubt if you are

  657. in a silent season because God's glory

  658. is on the way God's glory is coming

  659. And what is

  660. said then to the Gentiles also God has

  661. granted repentance that leads to

  662. life from critic to

  663. worshipper The gospel's

  664. advancing They were skeptical But now

  665. they began to celebrate They realized

  666. that they were witnessing something big

  667. Bigger than themselves bigger than their

  668. categories bigger than their traditions

  669. bigger than their preferences They were

  670. witnessing this firsthand And when God

  671. works in unexpected ways right Here's

  672. here's the question Do you worship Do

  673. you

  674. rejoice Or do you

  675. withhold Do you

  676. criticize because your favorite song

  677. wasn't

  678. sung because you didn't like what the

  679. preacher

  680. wore because maybe the coffee wasn't

  681. good What preferences Right This is

  682. hitting close to home Here's the reality

  683. Every single one of us have preferences

  684. in this room We have preferences of what

  685. a church service should look

  686. like When those preferences aren't met

  687. do you so glorify

  688. God If not you're worshiping an idol An

  689. idol of your own making You're

  690. worshiping a god that is not in the

  691. scripture It's a god of your own making

  692. A kingdom of

  693. self Now don't get me wrong Preferences

  694. can be a good thing wants desires can be

  695. a good thing God has granted us emotions

  696. and and feelings But but when those

  697. emotions and feelings become the only

  698. thing worthwhile is when we get it wrong

  699. Remember I've said it often Good things

  700. can become bad things if the good things

  701. become the greatest things We never want

  702. to live life that way We want to live

  703. life in tandem with who God is with what

  704. he desires for us And one of the ways in

  705. which we do that is we recognize and

  706. step into how he's moving and how he's

  707. working And let me just close with this

  708. Do you know how we do that We do that by

  709. crucifying the

  710. flesh When the spirit is moving in your

  711. life the flesh wants to fight

  712. back Our default setting is sin It is

  713. natural for us to rebel against the God

  714. of creation Which is why we constantly

  715. need to be filled with the spirit We

  716. need to be filling our hearts our minds

  717. our being with the things of God which

  718. is why prayer is so vital Reading the

  719. scriptures is so vital Following

  720. spiritual disciplines is so vital

  721. Serving in ministry is so vital Because

  722. the more we fill our things with the

  723. things of God the less we're being

  724. filled with the things of this world And

  725. the more we are filled with the things

  726. of God the more we recognize how God is

  727. moving And this box that we've created

  728. this box of preference prejudice and

  729. pretenses that says God can only fit in

  730. this box and people who honor God can

  731. only fit in this box those boundaries

  732. begin to explode And we realize that

  733. God's kingdom is limitless Don't limit

  734. what God has declared

  735. limitless And so this is not just a

  736. turning point for Peter This is a

  737. turning point for the

  738. church So let me just ask you this What

  739. what have you been

  740. resisting

  741. today Have you been resisting the

  742. unexpected work of

  743. God because maybe his plan doesn't

  744. follow your plan or his purpose follow

  745. your

  746. purpose And may we be like

  747. Peter who boldly declares after sharing

  748. the truth of what God had did in his

  749. life and the life of Cornelius and his

  750. family and by extension the gentile

  751. world May we be like Peter that says

  752. "Who am I Who am I to stand in God's

  753. way?" Would you pray with me

  754. Lord thank you for your

  755. word Thank you how we are

  756. reminded that you are a God at work that

  757. you are a God who

  758. moves that you are a God who

  759. speaks May we never take for

  760. granted the things that you call us

  761. to And Lord sometimes the greatest

  762. challenge is just stepping outside of

  763. ourselves so that we can step into what

  764. you're doing Lord I pray that those

  765. shackles of preference pride and

  766. selfishness that today in the name of

  767. Jesus would be

  768. broken Holy Spirit would you fill this

  769. place And would we not leave here until

  770. whatever it is that is holding us back

  771. has been released at the foot of your

  772. throne In Jesus name we pray All God's

  773. people said "Amen
