  1. All right, if you have a Bible or an

  2. app, let's go ahead and open it up. We

  3. are back in the book of Acts. Acts chap

  4. 11. We're going to be closing out

  5. chapter 11 by looking at verses 27

  6. through 30. We are in sermon number 34

  7. over the book of Acts. And let me just

  8. remind you why it's been so important

  9. that we're spending several weeks

  10. looking at this book in the New

  11. Testament. This details to us the

  12. history of the New Testament church. And

  13. I've often said throughout this series,

  14. it's very easy for us to read the

  15. history and the narrative that takes

  16. place in the book of Acts and to remove

  17. ourselves from those stories

  18. historically. And indeed, they are

  19. history, but there are history. You'll

  20. recognize that there is no official

  21. conclusion to the book of Acts. And

  22. that's done purposefully because we are

  23. a continuation of what God began

  24. centuries ago through a small group of

  25. believers who we read in the beginning

  26. of the book of Acts gathered in an upper

  27. room and experience an outpouring of the

  28. Holy Spirit in their lives. And that

  29. outpouring empowered them, moved them

  30. and equipped them to go and take the

  31. gospel to the world. And we are living

  32. breathing testaments of that. For those

  33. of us who have placed our faith in

  34. Jesus, we have done so because someone

  35. told us about Jesus. Someone took the

  36. time to pray over us and to be used in

  37. the ministry of the gospel and we heard

  38. the gospel proclaimed and we felt the

  39. conviction of the very sin that once

  40. identified us and we repented of our

  41. sin. We placed our hope, faith and trust

  42. in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and

  43. we have never been the same. And God

  44. continues to do a transforming work in

  45. our life. God doesn't just save us. The

  46. Holy Spirit doesn't just fill us and

  47. then leaves us to our own devices to

  48. figure it out on our own. But that

  49. becomes the first step of a life that

  50. should be rich and flavorful and deeply

  51. intimate with our creator who is in

  52. heaven. This is what we find all

  53. throughout the book of Acts. Their story

  54. is our story. Their history is our

  55. history. Their mission, church, is our

  56. mission. And so as we continue this

  57. morning by looking at the closing verses

  58. in Acts 11, remember we have already

  59. seen a tremendous outpouring of God's

  60. hand and God's power, not just in the

  61. life of the Jewish nation, not just in

  62. the life of the Israelites, but God is

  63. clearly demonstrating that his power and

  64. salvation is available to anyone who

  65. would call upon the name of Jesus. If

  66. you've been with us over the last couple

  67. of weeks, we've looked at this story

  68. between Peter, a Jewish leader in the

  69. church, one of the 12 disciples of

  70. Jesus, and a Roman centurion by the name

  71. of Cornelius, who both received visions

  72. from the Lord. It was this divine

  73. appointment that God brought to their

  74. lives and to their hearts where they

  75. were led to one another to experience

  76. this truth that salvation that the

  77. gospel that Christ being our Lord and

  78. our savior is available if you will turn

  79. from your sin and receive him as Lord.

  80. Well, what happens after

  81. that? What becomes of the church? What

  82. becomes of a Christian? someone who has

  83. now given their life to Jesus, what

  84. changes, what transforms in their home,

  85. in their marriage, and the way they

  86. engage in work and in the community?

  87. Well, that's what we see here in Acts

  88. 11. And the way that we see that is

  89. through the act of generosity. And so,

  90. what I want to do this morning is I want

  91. to talk to you about generosity. I

  92. actually read this quote this week. I

  93. thought it was um pretty interesting as

  94. it really defined what biblical

  95. generosity is. It says generosity is a

  96. movement of the soul. Your soul, son or

  97. daughter of the most high God. It's a

  98. movement of your soul when you are

  99. pierced by the recognition of another

  100. soul's need. That's what biblical

  101. generosity is. It's recognizing that

  102. there is another soul in need, another

  103. individual who bears the image of God.

  104. the same God who saved you, who is

  105. saving you, who is transforming you, who

  106. is using you in service and in the work

  107. of his kingdom. When we recognize that

  108. need in another human being, we are

  109. pierced to our soul and we can't but

  110. help to operate from the overflow of

  111. generosity that has been poured into us

  112. by Jesus Christ himself.

  113. Have you ever known someone who was just

  114. overly

  115. generous? I'm in my 21st year of

  116. ministry. And when I began 21 years ago,

  117. God had me um at a small church here in

  118. South Texas serving in the youth

  119. ministry. And what was real neat is

  120. there was this really neat restaurant

  121. called the Railroad Seafood Station.

  122. Anybody know what restaurant I'm talking

  123. about? Um over in ODM, Texas. And it

  124. just so happened that several weeks in a

  125. row, we just decided after Sunday

  126. church, we would go over to the railroad

  127. station and we would enjoy lunch. Well,

  128. it turned out that there was another

  129. church family there enjoying lunch as

  130. well. And they ended up paying for our

  131. lunch. Well, that was one week. Praise

  132. God for that. Well, the second week, we

  133. ended up going to that restaurant as

  134. well. And wouldn't you know it, that

  135. family was there as well. And again,

  136. they paid for our lunch. I thought, man,

  137. two weeks in a row. How awesome is this?

  138. Well, wouldn't you know it, we went a

  139. third time and that family was there

  140. again and they paid for our lunch. And

  141. so, at that point, it started becoming a

  142. running joke between my wife Crystal and

  143. I and we kept saying, "Where is Brother

  144. Olegel going to go to church?" Uh, going

  145. to go have lunch today. And so, the

  146. saying even to this day, we we'll just

  147. throw it out there, man. Praise the Lord

  148. for brother Oleggo. He recognized a need

  149. for us families in their young 20s with

  150. a newborn baby and and he

  151. provided. That sounds like a small need

  152. maybe, but it spoke deeply to us. We all

  153. know someone who is generous, who is

  154. overly generous. And maybe when you

  155. think about generosity, you think about

  156. the sacrifice that's involved. you think

  157. about the call and the challenge to step

  158. outside of your comfort zone in order to

  159. be there for someone else. And I think

  160. oftent times it is things like that that

  161. really keep us from being generous. Or

  162. maybe you're like me and you think about

  163. generosity and you think, well, if I

  164. only had more money, then I'd be more

  165. generous. If if I only had more time,

  166. then I'd be more generous. And this is

  167. not original. I heard a preacher preach

  168. on this one time. He said, 'If you are

  169. not generous with what you have

  170. now, what makes you think you'll be

  171. generous if your situation changes? And

  172. it reminded me of what Jesus tells us in

  173. his gospel ministry that if you can be

  174. trusted with

  175. little, then you can be trusted with

  176. much. And so often we look at generosity

  177. and we think generosity is only the

  178. outpouring and the overflow of much. But

  179. what we'll come to discover here in

  180. Actsap 11 in just a moment is that

  181. generosity has nothing whatsoever to do

  182. whether you have little or much, but has

  183. everything to do with where your faith

  184. and your heart

  185. rests. So if you have your Bible or your

  186. app open, let's go to Acts chapter 11.

    Acts 11 chapter mention

  187. We'll begin in verse

  188. 27. Here's what Dr. Luke writes. He

  189. says, 'Now in these

  190. days prophets came down to Jerusalem,

  191. from Jerusalem to

  192. Antioch, and one of them named Agabus

  193. stood up and foretold by the spirit that

  194. there would be a great famine over all

  195. the world. This took place in the days

  196. of Claudius. In your Bible, you'll often

  197. find that last sentence in parenthesis.

  198. What is Luke doing here? Luke is rooting

  199. this moment, this event in the life of

  200. the church. He's rooting it

  201. historically. This took place under the

  202. reign of the Roman emperor Claudius. You

  203. can even look at extra biblical

  204. historical records and you can find that

  205. indeed in the year 46 AD there was a

  206. famine that struck the land of Judea in

  207. the Roman Empire. Verse 29. So the

  208. disciples determined upon hearing this

  209. this prophecy that there was going to be

  210. a famine. The disciples determined

  211. everyone according to his ability to

  212. send relief to the brothers living in

  213. Judea. And they did so sending it to the

  214. elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

  215. And all God's people said, "Amen." Lord,

  216. would you bless your word? Holy Spirit,

  217. would you stir our hearts this

  218. morning?

  219. Amen. So, what strikes you from our

  220. passage this morning? Well, if you're

  221. like me, you are immediately drawn to

  222. this individual, this prophet by the

  223. name of Agabus. What does he do? He

  224. brings a prophetic word to the people of

  225. Antioch. He's been given this

  226. prophecy from God himself. And what is

  227. that prophecy? It is about an upcoming

  228. famine that will strike the land of

  229. Judea. And we read what their response

  230. was. It wasn't

  231. fear. Notice, let's contextualize this.

  232. It It wasn't hoarding. They weren't

  233. going to the nearest grocery store and

  234. stocking up on toilet paper. But what

  235. did they do? They responded in

  236. generosity. They responded in

  237. obedience. How different would our world

  238. be? our culture be our life be. When we

  239. heard of impending doom, that our first

  240. step was not something that would serve

  241. self, but our first step forward was a

  242. step of generosity that would serve

  243. others. Not for the sake of clout, not

  244. because we want to be seen as better

  245. than, not because we want to make a name

  246. for ourselves, but because we want to be

  247. obedient to the scriptures. We want to

  248. be one who is recognized by a life that

  249. is set apart for the glory of God's

  250. kingdom and the goodness of his

  251. church. Generosity, what we find is it

  252. isn't momentary, at least not here

  253. biblically. It's not a momentary

  254. feeling. When we step into biblical

  255. generosity, what we discover is that it

  256. is spiritfilled. It's kingdom producing.

  257. It's this heart and this mindset that

  258. overflows into our lifestyle. So, what

  259. does a generous Christian look

  260. like as we come to celebrate and lift up

  261. the influential women in our lives? As

  262. we seek to be generous to them, as we

  263. seek to live a life that is generous to

  264. others, what does that look like? Well,

  265. let's go back to our passage and I want

  266. us to see three markers of generous

  267. Christianity. So, if you're taking

  268. notes, here's the first marker that we

  269. see. We see that a generous Christian

  270. listens to the

  271. spirit. It's been once said that

  272. generosity doesn't begin with the hands.

  273. Generosity begins with the

  274. ears. What is influencing us? What is

  275. directing and guiding our behavior? Go

  276. back with me to verse

  277. 27. It says, "Now in these days,

  278. prophets came down to Jerusalem from

  279. Antioch. And one of them named Agabus

  280. stood up and foretold by who?

  281. Fore that there would be a famine all

  282. over the world." This took place in the

  283. days of Claudius. Now, I want to pause

  284. here for just a moment because I want us

  285. to recognize something very special

  286. here. The reason they were able to

  287. receive the word of God as told through

  288. the prophet Agabus is because the people

  289. in Antioch had been positioned to hear

  290. the word of God. So often we miss out on

  291. what God is doing, what God is saying,

  292. how God is working, and how God is

  293. moving because we've not positioned

  294. ourselves to hear the voice of God. Do

  295. you remember where we finished last in

  296. Acts chap 11 last week that Barnabas and

  297. Saul had come to Antioch and had spent a

  298. year with the Antioch church to raise

  299. them up in spiritual disciplines and

  300. understanding what it means to mature

  301. and grow in the gospel seed that had

  302. been planted so that that gospel seed

  303. would bear fruit in their lives. And I

  304. think so often gospel seed is planted

  305. and maybe we placed our faith in Jesus

  306. and maybe we can look back to a moment

  307. in history where we were baptized and

  308. and God indeed did a work but there has

  309. never been fruit or witnessable fruit in

  310. our lives where others can see that we

  311. have positioned ourselves to hear from

  312. God to be used by God.

  313. And so what happens

  314. here? The people of Antioch, their

  315. devotion to the Lord, their

  316. intentionality with what God was doing

  317. put them right where they needed to be.

  318. Their ears and their heart were prepared

  319. to hear from God. Here's the challenging

  320. question for us this morning. Are we

  321. prepared to hear from

  322. God? Maybe you're stepping into a new

  323. season of life. Maybe you're coming out

  324. of a very difficult season of life.

  325. Maybe you find

  326. yourselves, so to speak, like a ship at

  327. port, ready to set sail. But you are

  328. just looking for the winds to change

  329. direction. You're looking for a plan.

  330. You're looking for something that is

  331. telling you you need to you need to

  332. raise anchor and you need to set sail.

  333. Here's the thing. When we step out in

  334. faith and trust and in full obedience to

  335. God, it is then when we position

  336. ourselves to begin to hear from God. And

  337. this is what we see here in Actsap 11

  338. that the mark of a generous Christian is

  339. one who listens to the

  340. spirit. The spirit stirred a need, a

  341. very obvious need that historically we

  342. can go and read about. and they

  343. responded with

  344. obedience. Now, I I think it's worth

  345. mentioning about the subject of

  346. prophecy. The subject of prophecy is not

  347. something traditionally that we're

  348. comfortable hearing about in the Baptist

  349. tradition or even in the Baptist church.

  350. But here's what we discover. Prophecy in

  351. the New Testament functions as a way of

  352. edifying and guiding the church. This

  353. was Paul's purpose in bringing up the

  354. gift of prophecy in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 14 chapter mention

  355. chapter 14. He's bringing clarification

  356. to what it's about. And Agabus's word

  357. was clear. Did you recognize that his

  358. word was spirit

  359. authenticated? Because Luke himself

  360. makes it a point to tell us, the reader,

  361. the recipient, that the prophecy of

  362. Agabus was a prophecy that was filled

  363. with who? with the spirit. Not doomsday

  364. predictions, not Bible codes, not

  365. looking at the latest headlines and

  366. predicting what would happen, but this

  367. was spiritfilled authentification. Which

  368. is why Luke will reference the reign of

  369. Roman Emperor

  370. Claudius. So that we this side of the

  371. story could look back historically and

  372. say not only was it authenticated by the

  373. spirit himself, but this is

  374. authenticated in

  375. history. Not only that, prophecy is

  376. often confirmed by the fruit it

  377. produces. Well, what was the fruit of

  378. this prophecy? a famine actually

  379. happened. But more than the prophecy,

  380. what's generated here? Unity in the

  381. church and generosity from

  382. believers. You know, true God-honoring

  383. generosity starts with spiritual

  384. sensitivity. And I think so often that's

  385. what we

  386. miss. We miss being marked by a heart

  387. that is sensitive to the spirit of God.

  388. We say, "Well, Roland, how do I position

  389. myself to have a heart of sensitivity?

  390. How do I position myself to hear from

  391. God? And once I hear from God, to not

  392. just sit on it, to not just rest on it,

  393. to not just sit on my high horse as if

  394. I'm set apart from everyone else because

  395. I hear from God and they don't, but but

  396. how can I take God's command, God's

  397. word, and use it as a catalyst so that

  398. what God does in here overflows out

  399. there?" That's what generosity is.

  400. That's what generosity does. Generosity

  401. isn't just something that we feel on the

  402. inside. Generosity is something that is

  403. demonstrated on the outside, but it

  404. first begins by being positioned to hear

  405. from God. By being sensitive enough to

  406. hear from God. And and let me just

  407. clarify it this way. It isn't as if God

  408. is speaking a new word to

  409. us. Let me be absolutely clear. There is

  410. no new revelation from God. God has told

  411. us all that we ever need to know right

  412. here in his holy word. And if anyone

  413. ever declares that they have new

  414. revelation outside of what God has

  415. already revealed, then that is not

  416. spirit authenticated. That is not

  417. something we receive. As a matter of

  418. fact, that's something that we reject

  419. and we flee

  420. from. So Roland, how do I position

  421. myself to hear from God? I'll tell you

  422. how you position yourself to hear from

  423. God. Know his word.

  424. This is how God speaks. This is how God

  425. chooses to reveal himself more and more

  426. into the hearts and the lives of

  427. Christians and his

  428. children. You can't know the God of the

  429. word if you don't know the word of God.

  430. This is how God is revealing himself to

  431. us. And when we step into this spiritual

  432. sensitivity to God's voice, we are

  433. stepping into, don't miss this, a

  434. conversation that has already

  435. begun. A conversation that started way

  436. back when in Genesis 1 when the

  437. scripture declared, God said, "Let there

  438. be light." We are stepping into an

  439. already existing conversation. Maybe

  440. you've heard us phrase it this way. When

  441. we come to worship God, we're not

  442. stepping into anything new. We're not

  443. creating new platforms or avenues of

  444. worship. What we are stepping into is an

  445. already

  446. existing worship where the scripture

  447. declares is happening in the throne room

  448. of heaven as the angels and the

  449. multitudes are declaring, "Holy, holy,

  450. holy is the Lord God Almighty who was,

  451. who is, and is to come." Generosity

  452. begins by listening to the spirit. So,

  453. real quick, ask yourself

  454. this. Where is God calling me to meet a

  455. need? Because generosity is going to

  456. grow when our heart and our ears are in

  457. tune with the voice of God. And what if,

  458. just what

  459. if, what if your next generous act,

  460. whatever that may look like, God is

  461. already

  462. preparing by positioning you and

  463. creating in you an intentionality and a

  464. purpose of being right where you need to

  465. be. The question is, will you pause long

  466. enough to recognize

  467. it? Here's the second mark that we see.

  468. A generous Christian gives what they

  469. can. It's right here in verse 29. What

  470. does Luke write? So the disciples

  471. determined, here's the key. Everyone

  472. according to his

  473. ability to send relief. Here's what I

  474. love in particular about that phrase

  475. that that Luke with purpose writes

  476. according to his ability. I read that

  477. and for me it is such a freeing fa uh um

  478. phrase. It is so so loving and so

  479. spiritfilled of the Christian to

  480. recognize needs that are being filled

  481. for those who are in deep circumstances

  482. who are going to face famine like the

  483. people of

  484. Judea. That that need is being met by

  485. what each one in the relief they send in

  486. accordance to their own ability. Here's

  487. what this means. that no one gave beyond

  488. their means. No one gave to impress.

  489. They simply gave what they

  490. could. I love this. It's some may have

  491. given

  492. sacrificially, others from their

  493. surplus, but but here's here's the point

  494. of what Luke is saying that the generous

  495. people in Antioch, they didn't

  496. give out of obligation.

  497. They gave willingly and out of

  498. obedience. And we talked about this

  499. several weeks ago when we looked at the

  500. subject of giving. God will do

  501. more with a little that is given from a

  502. heart that is

  503. allin that is saying yes. Use this for

  504. the goodness of your people and for the

  505. glory of your kingdom. than he will from

  506. a begrudging heart that gives what we

  507. might consider a

  508. lot. You say, Roland, how do you know

  509. this? Well, we see this as a pattern all

  510. throughout the

  511. scriptures.

  512. Jesus honors the widow's might. You

  513. remember that story in the

  514. Gospels because she gave out of her

  515. poverty. She gave willingly and

  516. obediently. She gave sacrificially. Paul

  517. his later teaching in 2 Corinthians 8

  518. says this for if the readiness is there

  519. it is acceptable according to what a

  520. person has not according to what he does

  521. not

  522. have. God doesn't measure the size of

  523. the

  524. gift. He measures the obedience of the

  525. giver. This is why

  526. generosity is such an incredible act.

  527. This is why we'll again read later in

  528. the New Testament that it is better to

  529. give than it is to receive. God does

  530. something unique from an obedient heart

  531. that gives because they want

  532. to. And

  533. here's here's what we need to know. You

  534. don't have to be rich to be

  535. generous. You just need to be faithful.

  536. Be faithful with what you have. Whether

  537. that's a college student giving from a

  538. part-time job or a retiree giving from a

  539. fixed income, the Lord honors both if

  540. they give as the Lord leads. If they're

  541. generous as the Lord leads. So here's

  542. another challenging question. What's in

  543. your hand? Figuratively, what's in your

  544. hand? And are you holding on to

  545. this tighter than you're holding on to

  546. the faith that rests in the heart?

  547. Right? That that that's that's that's

  548. the marker of true generosity. or if

  549. what I have in my hand I I'm willing to

  550. open up in service to the kingdom of God

  551. for the good of his people out of the

  552. overflow of the generosity God has shown

  553. to the sinner to a sinner such as

  554. I. But

  555. generosity, right? It it it it isn't

  556. just from peerto-peer.

  557. When we step into this this type of

  558. generosity, what do we read here at the

  559. end? It becomes

  560. missional. It begins to move the kingdom

  561. forward. Right? This is what we find.

  562. Here's our third marker. A generous

  563. Christian gives to build the

  564. body. Notice right here back in verse

  565. 29. What does it say? To send relief to

  566. the brothers living in Judea. And they

  567. did so, sending it to the elders by the

  568. hand of Barnabas and Saul. Let me focus

  569. on that last portion before we get into

  570. that first portion. Sent at the hands of

  571. Barnabas and Saul. Previously, what do

  572. we know about

  573. Saul? He was not a very good individual

  574. prior to becoming a Christian. He sought

  575. to silence the gospel, approving of the

  576. persecution and the murder of believers.

  577. He was a man who had a reputation for

  578. imprisoning those who would attempt to

  579. preach the gospel. So much so that after

  580. Saul was saved, after Jesus transformed

  581. his heart, he goes to spend three years

  582. in the deserts of Arabia growing in his

  583. understanding of what the gospel is and

  584. the mission God is calling him to. He'll

  585. then go spend uh years in Jerusalem with

  586. Peter. And even then, the people begin

  587. to look at him and say, "I don't believe

  588. he's a Christian. I don't believe his

  589. life has been transformed." Anybody ever

  590. been in those shoes before? Maybe you've

  591. been the one pointing fingers and

  592. questioning someone's salvation. Or

  593. maybe you've been the recipient of

  594. someone questioning your salvation. Let

  595. me just say

  596. this. Your heart and your savior is just

  597. that, your heart between you and your

  598. savior. Don't listen to people that

  599. would question what God has legitimately

  600. done in your

  601. life. And and church, let's not ever be

  602. a people that question what God has

  603. legitimately done in someone else's

  604. life. God moves. God works. And what we

  605. see here when Luke is saying that it was

  606. sent to the elders by the hands of

  607. Barnabas's and Saul, what what what Luke

  608. is setting up in in in a short sentence

  609. is this understanding that Saul though

  610. he was once questioned and his salvation

  611. was once questioned um has now grown

  612. enough, been discipled enough, become

  613. spiritually mature enough where now

  614. people are trusting him and they

  615. recognize a change in his life. They

  616. recognize that God has done a

  617. work. And here's what's beautiful about

  618. this, about this generosity that's

  619. building up the body. It isn't just

  620. giving to the poor. It's that, but

  621. there's so much more that's happening

  622. here. It's Gentile

  623. believers giving to Jewish believers.

  624. If you've been with us the last couple

  625. of weeks, we've learned how incredibly

  626. radical that

  627. is. Especially in a moment in time when

  628. Judaism was set apart. They were seen as

  629. the elect. They were seen as the

  630. important ones. They were seen as God's

  631. special people. Which is why they

  632. questioned Peter when he went to

  633. Cornelius's house. Why would you go to a

  634. Gentile's house? Why would you risk your

  635. cleanliness and your uh you being pure

  636. uh pure in in the face of ceremonial and

  637. temple laws and now risking all of that

  638. to go and meet with a gentile, someone

  639. who was looked down upon, someone who

  640. was considered an outcast, someone who

  641. according to tradition and culture would

  642. make you impure and

  643. unclean. And we see here that God has

  644. absolutely bridged the gap.

  645. And so the unclean now providing for the

  646. clean, so to speak. Two groups that

  647. didn't historically mix, but now under

  648. the banner of Jesus helping one another.

  649. And what becomes the bridge? Not just

  650. the gospel, but the overflow of the

  651. gospel, which is generosity. And we see

  652. this pattern that is unique to the New

  653. Testament

  654. church. And so what does that tell us?

  655. That tells us several things. It it

  656. tells us that when we are positioned to

  657. hear from God, that means that that we

  658. are walking in such a way that we're

  659. obedient to spiritual disciplines. We're

  660. obedient to the call and the path that

  661. God has laid before us so that we can

  662. discern his voice. Remember, I remind us

  663. of this often, there are multiple voices

  664. speaking into your life. Parents know

  665. this all too well with our kids.

  666. multiple voices speaking into their

  667. life. And what is our job? Our job is to

  668. raise our kids up to know the truth of

  669. God's word so that when the world comes

  670. screaming at them, they're able to

  671. discern the lies of the world versus the

  672. truth of God. They're able to discern

  673. what is evil, wrong, and sinful versus

  674. what is holy, righteous, and true. This

  675. is what we are called to do. But that's

  676. not just parents to their children.

  677. That's for you as well.

  678. And when you are sensitive to the

  679. spirit, you're able to discern right

  680. from wrong. You're able to discern what

  681. God would have next for your life. And

  682. and and let me just let me just put it

  683. this way. Some of us, we're living in

  684. sin. And because we're living in sin and

  685. there's a refusal to repent of the very

  686. sin that we're living in, we feel that

  687. that we are in this walk with God where

  688. where he's quiet and where he's silent.

  689. And let me just say this, God is never

  690. quiet and silent when it comes to

  691. repentance and your salvation. God is

  692. always calling you forward, calling you

  693. to turn from the wickedness, to turn

  694. from whatever addiction, to turn

  695. whatever to turn from whatever vice

  696. would shackle you and enslave

  697. you and make you a servant of the devil.

  698. We don't often hear it phrased that way,

  699. but that's what sin does. Sin makes us a

  700. servant of Satan.

  701. But when we repent of our

  702. sin and we discern the voice of the

  703. spirit to turn from sin and turn to the

  704. Lord and embrace his forgiveness,

  705. embrace his grace, embrace his love, and

  706. to then be positioned to hear what your

  707. next step is, what my next step is, what

  708. us together as a church is our next

  709. step. I'm I'm I'm kind of going um um

  710. off Mark here, but but let me just say

  711. this.

  712. This is why it's so important that as

  713. individuals, we're walking in obedience

  714. to the Lord. Because if you call the

  715. Grove your home, that means that you're

  716. part of this church family. And as a

  717. family, when someone hurts, then we're

  718. all hurting. Right? Paul likens church

  719. family to the body. If if my hand hurts

  720. and my body can't operate the me the way

  721. it was meant to operate. I started

  722. wearing glasses when I was uh 35 years

  723. old, so six years ago. They're really

  724. reading glasses and I can see you guys

  725. fine. But I see a little bit of fuzz

  726. around each of y'all. Maybe that's the

  727. spirit just glowing. But when I put them

  728. on, boom, it's like HD. It's like

  729. 4K. And so when my eyes go bad, I can't

  730. operate the way that I need to operate.

  731. You You guys understand what I'm saying?

  732. So So the whole body when one of us is

  733. not walking in the spirit, then guess

  734. what? we can't operate the way that

  735. we're called to

  736. operate, which is why it's so important

  737. to be in tune with the spirit, right?

  738. And

  739. so we need to ask the

  740. Lord this moment as we express our

  741. generosity as as we lay down our lives

  742. as we crucify the flesh for the sake of

  743. the kingdom and for the glory of the

  744. name of

  745. Jesus to unify

  746. us to use us and to help us

  747. overcome that which would shackle us and

  748. hold us

  749. back. This foundation of

  750. generosity, right, it brings unity

  751. across the church ethnically and

  752. culturally to send relief to the

  753. brothers living in Judea. And let me

  754. just close with

  755. this again. All of this is an overflow

  756. from the greatest act of generosity that

  757. we've been shown. And you guys know

  758. where I'm going with this. That the God

  759. of

  760. creation would look down into my

  761. life. He would look at my past sins, my

  762. present sin, my future sin. He would

  763. look at my thought patterns and my

  764. perspective and my focus. All of it that

  765. was in rebellion to God

  766. himself where I attempted to set myself

  767. on the throne of my life rather than to

  768. humble myself before the God of creation

  769. that he would look at that and out of

  770. his great love for me would send Jesus

  771. Christ to die on Calvar's cross in my

  772. place. This is how personal the gospel

  773. is. It's not just some generic message

  774. that said God died for the world. Yes,

  775. that may get the point across, but I

  776. want you to know God died for insert

  777. your name. God died for

  778. Roland. And I don't activate the

  779. benefits of any of that until the Holy

  780. Spirit awakens faith in my

  781. life. That's the greatest act of

  782. generosity the universe has ever known.

  783. And it's out of that generosity that

  784. fills me, that changes me, that saves

  785. and rescues me from

  786. me. When that

  787. overflows in my thoughts and in my

  788. actions, not only does it unify us as a

  789. body of believers, not only does it

  790. extend a helping hand to people who are

  791. in need, but what does it do? It

  792. reflects the generosity of the father.

  793. It shows his goodness, his mercy, and

  794. his grace. And my hope and my prayer

  795. today is that if you don't know the

  796. generosity of our father who is in

  797. heaven, that today would be the day for

  798. you. Would you pray with

  799. me? Heavenly Father, we are

  800. grateful for

  801. salvation. Thank you for the cross.

  802. Thank you for grace and for

  803. mercy. And we thank you that your

  804. righteousness covers my

  805. sin. Lord, I pray this

  806. morning for the one who does not know

  807. you. Lord, you call your people your

  808. very own. And maybe today, this

  809. morning, for the first time, the Holy

  810. Spirit is awakening someone to the

  811. realization that they are called

  812. yours. Spirit, would you draw us to you?

  813. Would you create in

  814. us a deeper sense
