[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, man, good morning church.

[SPEAKER_00]: I say good morning.

[SPEAKER_00]: His resurrection day, how many sighted that the grave is empty in Jesus is alive this morning, amen?

[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, today's a great party because we're going to party today like death has been defeated because it has actually been defeated now and forever more.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the church says, grab your Bible, go to John chapter 20, the gospel of John chapter 20.

[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that you this morning that you are here for more than just a good photo up.

[SPEAKER_00]: you aren't here just because grandma made you come to church and drug you and before you can eat ham you got to show up to church like you do the three times a year.

[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that you, I know that you are here for more than just making your wife happy because you want to come to church with her today.

[SPEAKER_00]: I believe this, that you are here today on divine appointment, and I believe the spirit of God has something to say to you today, and I believe resurrection is going to flow into your life this morning in a new way with new revelation and with new power, amen?

[SPEAKER_00]: John chapter 20, then we're going to go to Roman chapter eight directly after that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, get this, and remember this, while it was still dark.

[SPEAKER_00]: and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciples whom Jesus loved and said to them, they have taken away the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have laid him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Peter therefore went out and the other disciple and they were going to the tomb.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they both ran together and the other disciple outran Peter, quick interjection.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love that in the middle of John's gospel here because John is the other disciple.

[SPEAKER_00]: that John just goes aside, he goes, by the way, Peter was slow and I beat him to the tomb.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 5.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he's stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he did not go in.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb and he saw the linen cloths lying there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the handkerchief had been around his head not lying with a linen cloths but folded together in a place by itself.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then the other disciple who came to the tomb

[SPEAKER_00]: believed.

[SPEAKER_00]: He saw and believed that the tomb was empty and Jesus was alive.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now Romans chapter 8 says this, but if the spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies, who His spirit who dwells in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: that raised Christ Jesus from the dead is in you and it will quicken your mortal by this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Pray this morning, Father, thank you for this word.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thank you that even on this resurrection day, you have something good to say to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thank you, Father, you will annoy my tongue as out of a ready and skillful writer to speak forth your words of life, exhortation, edification, and comfort to your people.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thank you for all of us in this room this morning.

[SPEAKER_00]: You'll annoy our ears to hear our hearts receive and our spirits to respond to what you're saying to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: In Jesus' name, and everybody says, Amen.

[SPEAKER_00]: Amen.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love a great story.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anybody love a great story in here?

[SPEAKER_00]: Where are my movie people that?

[SPEAKER_00]: We got any movie buffs in the house this morning?

[SPEAKER_00]: 19 of you.

[SPEAKER_00]: The rest of you all are like nope.

[SPEAKER_00]: Straight to hell, praise God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Go to the movie house, the movie house.

[SPEAKER_00]: One of my talking about, you go to the theater, straight to hell.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just even alive when they call to movie houses.

[SPEAKER_00]: Straight to hell, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly none of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a movie guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love movies.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love stories.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love good stories that are told.

[SPEAKER_00]: And every great story has a moment where it looks like everything is over.

[SPEAKER_00]: where the hero is down, where he's against the ropes, where he's beat up, where he's battered, where it looks like the battle is lost, and just when you think it is finished, plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the game changes, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: So, I say plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite examples of this, I'm a Marvel guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have either Marvel, people in the room this morning.

[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, praise God.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a Marvel guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love the MCU, I love all the Marvel movies.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a Marvel person, like me, you went on journey from like 2008 all the way to 2018.

[SPEAKER_00]: We started with Iron Man and Captain America and Thor, and all that.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then they just kept adding more weird superheroes in.

[SPEAKER_00]: They said we got talking raccoons and everything else.

[SPEAKER_00]: But at the very end, we go and we see the movie Infinity War, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Avengers Infinity War.

[SPEAKER_00]: The end of Infinity War, y'all didn't know y'all gonna be hearing about Marvel this morning on Easter Sunday.

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of y'all like praise God.

[SPEAKER_00]: This place, I feel, I feel God in this room.

[SPEAKER_00]: When Infinity War and Ian's Thanos is victorious, the villain wins, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: He snaps and half of existence is gone.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we have to wait a year.

[SPEAKER_00]: which is the longest year of your life, if you're a fan.

[SPEAKER_00]: The go-to see the story end.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we go see Avengers in-game, a tour of the end of Avengers in-game.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thanos is still kind of like running the show.

[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing's looking great.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Captain America is the only one left standing in all of Thanos forces are on one side.

[SPEAKER_00]: And on the other side, it's Captain America with his battered shield.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he picks it up and he faces off against the against Thanos and his armies.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then suddenly, when all hope is lost and everything looks bad, suddenly, Captain America standing there here's on your left, and you're spying tingled in the theater, and everyone started shouting, some people louder than they do in church, I'm gonna preach that this morning, but we'll do that some other time.

[SPEAKER_00]: And next thing, you know, all the other heroes show up and they defeat Thanos and they vanquish him because why?

[SPEAKER_00]: When it looked dark, there was suddenly a plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: When it looked like the end was actually just a setup.

[SPEAKER_00]: Can I tell you today that the resurrection is the greatest plot twist in all of history, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Avengers in-game on your left and got nothing on the empty tomb.

[SPEAKER_00]: The greatest plot twist in history happened 2000 years ago where it looked like death had won.

[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like the grave was victorious.

[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like Jesus was dead, but

[SPEAKER_00]: plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: All of a sudden there's an empty tomb and he arises in victory and in triumph forever and ever the resurrection is the greatest plot twist in all of history.

[SPEAKER_00]: But every plot twist requires to set up.

[SPEAKER_00]: And for our story this morning the cross was the set up.

[SPEAKER_00]: The enemy thought

[SPEAKER_00]: But the cross was just the set up for the plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: He thought he had won.

[SPEAKER_00]: Death thought it had sealed the story, but God was writing a plot twist the whole time.

[SPEAKER_00]: God was the author of the story and he would also be the finisher of the story.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I want you to understand something.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to even this morning or celebrating the resurrection, but like Dad already said, there's victory we can find in every single day.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to understand even Friday wasn't defeat.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to look at the cross a little bit differently this morning because if you're like me grew up in church, you grew up, you know, especially in the American church, in Protestant evangelical culture, the way that the way that we were taught often times to look at the cross was like Jesus was overcome by death and death got Jesus, but the story was going to change.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here to tell you this morning, death never got Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: But death never got Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Death never had victory over him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because for death to have victory over him, means that some external force would have to change him.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he is the same yesterday, today, and for ever he is immutable and he is unmovable.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hear me hear me hear me.

[SPEAKER_00]: Death didn't change Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus changed death.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to hear me this morning.

[SPEAKER_00]: Death did not change Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus changed death because everything that Jesus touches and everything that Jesus encounters, he changes.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're not the same as you used to be, you know why?

[SPEAKER_00]: Because you encountered Jesus and your life didn't change Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus changed your life.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whenever death came at Jesus, death didn't get Jesus, Jesus, God, death, death didn't change Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus changed death, not just for him in that moment, but for forever death was completely swallowed up in victory and in triumph because of what Jesus did.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus defeated

[SPEAKER_00]: death, he defeated sin, he defeated the curse, he defeated everything sin brought.

[SPEAKER_00]: So next time you look at a cross, I don't want you to look at it and go, oh, poor Jesus, and what he experienced, I want you to look at it and go, through that cross, Jesus changed the power of death forever.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus broke the power of the curse.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus changed my life, because when death came at him, he changed death.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus brought justice in his death, and he made things right again, because of a fall in a garden and death had authority, which I don't have time to preach this this morning, maybe I'll preach it next year, but it's really interesting, because a fall happens in a garden and resurrection happens in a garden.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have time.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's not the message.

[SPEAKER_00]: Next year, death had dominion.

[SPEAKER_00]: Humanity was enslaved

[SPEAKER_00]: But when Jesus died on Saturday, he stepped into death itself.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hell had dominion, but whenever he went, he didn't go as a victim.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus was never a victim in this story.

[SPEAKER_00]: On Friday, He's not a victim.

[SPEAKER_00]: On Saturday, He's not a victim.

[SPEAKER_00]: And on Sunday, He's not a victim.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because you can't victimize Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whenever you come at Him, He still has all authority.

[SPEAKER_00]: And He still has all power.

[SPEAKER_00]: And He still conquers.

[SPEAKER_00]: And whatever you try to throw at Him, He just transforms it.

[SPEAKER_00]: He changes it.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what's happening is on Saturday,

[SPEAKER_00]: While all of Earth is silent, Jesus is waging war against sin death and hell.

[SPEAKER_00]: When everybody else thinks the story is over, he's crafting the plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is why in Revelation chapter 1, we see what Jesus, actually if you back up what we see is that Jesus, on Saturday, the sins into the realm of death, he strips its of his power.

[SPEAKER_00]: He kicks in the doors of death.

[SPEAKER_00]: He holds captivity captive.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a great piece of art, there's a great piece of art that has this actually portrayed beautifully.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Jesus is in that realm, and actually he's got Adam and Eve by the wrist, and he's lifting them up.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because what had put them down, Jesus has now shown up to lift them up out of.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hear me, what the curse put on you, Jesus came to lift you up out of.

[SPEAKER_00]: What the enemy tried to inflict to you with, Jesus has come to pull you up out of.

[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to live in that place all the days of your life.

[SPEAKER_00]: He came to pull you up out of death, sin, and hell.

[SPEAKER_00]: He goes his king, and he takes the keys.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is why he declares revelation chapter one.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the one who was dead, but now I'm alive.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not only in my life, but I have the keys of death, hell, and the grave.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, keys denote ownership.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right?

[SPEAKER_00]: How many of you have ever bought a car or a house or something like that?

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you ever, some of y'all are homeless and have no cars.

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you have ever bought a house or a car.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wave at me, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Probably everybody in this room is some point is about either a house or a car, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And you go into an office, you go somewhere, and they give you paperwork.

[SPEAKER_00]: They give you legal paperwork to sign, and you sign that legal paperwork.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then at the end, what happens?

[SPEAKER_00]: You get the keys, right, and you close on a house, I give you a big key to take a picture with half the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: You got the title company on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then you get the keys, why?

[SPEAKER_00]: Because you now legally and rightfully own that house.

[SPEAKER_00]: You now legally and rightfully own that car.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the picture that's being painted for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: The picture that is being painted for us by Jesus and Revelation 1, where he says, I'm the one who is dead, but now I'm alive, and I have the keys of death held in the grave.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is saying, death doesn't own me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I own death.

[SPEAKER_00]: The grave doesn't own me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I own the grave.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, these hell doesn't own me.

[SPEAKER_00]: I own it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Are you with me this morning?

[SPEAKER_00]: You have to understand what Jesus is showing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Is it has no authority, it has no power?

[SPEAKER_00]: That means this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus owns the keys and death can't rearrange the furniture.

[SPEAKER_00]: That means Jesus owns the keys and hell can't take his car on a test drive.

[SPEAKER_00]: He owns it and he has all authority and he has all power and death that used to hold humanity.

[SPEAKER_00]: But now Jesus holds the power of death.

[SPEAKER_00]: Death used to own our future, but now Jesus owns our future.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Jesus now has locked death out forever.

[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, oftentimes, I think what we do, especially if once again, if you're like me raised in church around this, you've heard the story again and again and again and again.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the 41st Easter I celebrated in my life.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot of Easter's.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then you've heard this story, you've heard this account.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if we're not careful, what we will do is start viewing this as some set point and just remembering a night story.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, praise God, they crucified Jesus and that was sad.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then Saturday, we don't do anything because we don't know anything what's going on in what's happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then on Sunday, we're going to put on our nice clothes.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to go to church because it's what we do to remember that a grave is empty.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to let you know

[SPEAKER_00]: that the resurrection is not just some fixed point in history.

[SPEAKER_00]: The resurrection is a kingdom reality that is still flowing today.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is why we can sing songs today.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're not three days away from an empty grave.

[SPEAKER_00]: Another stone is rolling.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because I believe this morning, there are stones that are going to roll in your life.

[SPEAKER_00]: I believe this morning, the cosmic reversal that Jesus set in motion two thousand years ago, whenever Jesus broke the power of death is for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: You have to understand that Jesus didn't just escape death.

[SPEAKER_00]: The resurrection is not the great Houdini act of the first century, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't even heard people preach it so I will Jesus escaped death.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's stupid.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus didn't escape death.

[SPEAKER_00]: He conquered it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus didn't just wiggle his way out of the situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: He completely obliterated the power of hell in the grave.

[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to stop thinking this as like Jesus was able to dodge and juked the guard enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like he was a wide receiver for your favorite football team.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus didn't just escape the grave, Jesus conquered the grave, and those are two very different things.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus didn't just escape sin, he conquered sin.

[SPEAKER_00]: He broke its very power, and with that everything changed.

[SPEAKER_00]: The resurrection is not just a nice overcoming story and a point in history.

[SPEAKER_00]: Resurrection is present power.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is why Romans 8, it does not say if you go back up to Romans 8, you can't let me come to the screen for me.

[SPEAKER_00]: But if the Spirit is Him who raised Christ, Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal body to His Spirit who dwells in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't say He dwells in you, but that same power dwells in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Presidents, that means this, the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead didn't retire.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is still active.

[SPEAKER_00]: And you know where it's moving in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know where it's moving in me.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's still moving.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's still working.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's still raising.

[SPEAKER_00]: The resurrection is not a fixed point in some historical account that we remember.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is the hinge that all of history swings upon.

[SPEAKER_00]: What happened in tomb in that tomb is still happening in hearts today.

[SPEAKER_00]: What happened in the garden is still happening in lives today.

[SPEAKER_00]: The, I mean, this, this is why what you hear me really well.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is why the, the message of the gospel is not a message of just do better.

[SPEAKER_00]: The message of the gospel is this, you don't need improvement, you need resurrection.

[SPEAKER_00]: The message of the gospel is not I need to rearrange some things in my life and tweet some things to be better.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, you need new life.

[SPEAKER_00]: The message of the gospel is not if you try hard enough, the message of the gospel is Jesus conquered death, so you don't have to keep walking in the way that you walked before.

[SPEAKER_00]: For a lot of us in this room, there are points in our lives where the enemy thought our story was finished.

[SPEAKER_00]: He thought it ended in addiction.

[SPEAKER_00]: He thought it ended in failure.

[SPEAKER_00]: He thought it ended in brokenness.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the enemy is pretty stupid.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's a dumb devil.

[SPEAKER_00]: Second Corinthians chapter two, Paul says this.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says that the rulers of this age knew they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let me put it to you this way.

[SPEAKER_00]: He misread the moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: And some of you, the enemy, looked at you on Friday, and he misread the moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: He saw a Friday moment in your life, and he misread the moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because he thought that you were finished, he thought that you were done, he thought the grave was sealed, but what he didn't know is God was writing the plot to us in your life.

[SPEAKER_00]: What he didn't know is God was setting the plan in motion for things to turn around and shift and change, and never be the same again.

[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, everybody, he did, then he will do again in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: For a lot of you, the enemy said, I got him on Friday, but he forgot that Sunday happened a long time ago, and that same power is in me, and that same power is in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: You were not defined by what buried you, you were not defined by who raised you, you were not defined by what happened to you, you were defined.

[SPEAKER_00]: by what happened 2,000 years ago, and the same spirit that raised Jesus from the death, it is in you and this moment, and it will quicken your mortal body.

[SPEAKER_00]: You are not a slave to sin, you are not a prisoner of death, you are a carrier of resurrection power.

[SPEAKER_00]: That means when hell came against your life, it ran into the same spirit that raised Jesus from the death.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whenever it threw its best shot at you, it ran into the same spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: They raise Jesus from the death.

[SPEAKER_00]: That means, whenever death trying to overcome you, the same spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: Plot twist.

[SPEAKER_00]: And everything looked different.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know we're shouting about resurrection.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of us are living in resurrection.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know some of you in this room, your life is going great.

[SPEAKER_00]: And God's doing powerful and mighty things.

[SPEAKER_00]: And praise God for that.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I know we're declaring victory, we're going to keep declaring victory.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to just for a moment, talk to the other side of the room.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because not everyone here is winning right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not everyone that's in this room, everything's just coming up roses and daisies and you'll never have problems again.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can be saved and still feel like you're in a Friday moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can love Jesus and still feel like you're in a Friday moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can be faithful to church and still feel like you have Friday moments.

[SPEAKER_00]: And as we close, I want to just paint a picture for you, because this is the way a lot of you feel right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of you may feel like you're in that Friday moment, where you feel like your heart is beating, but you're barely hanging on.

[SPEAKER_00]: You feel like your breath is slowing, and you don't know what's happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: You feel like reality is slipping away, and everything you've stood for, everything you believe for.

[SPEAKER_00]: Everything you've prayed for, everything that you've known to be true.

[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like it's just out of reach, and nothing is going right, and everything feels broken.

[SPEAKER_00]: And in those moments, we have those times where we wonder, is this what it is?

[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the end that I come this far to just for it to end like this?

[SPEAKER_00]: What in my life has gone awry to bring me to this moment, and this time, and for it to be just like this?

[SPEAKER_00]: And in those moments, it feels like darkness.

[SPEAKER_00]: And in those moments, they can feel silent.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they can feel like death.

[SPEAKER_00]: These are the moments like when divorce papers are served.

[SPEAKER_00]: These are the moments where your kids are wayward.

[SPEAKER_00]: These are the moments when you go to the doctor expecting one thing, but you get a diagnosis that's crushing.

[SPEAKER_00]: These are the times in the moments where your marriage is fractured, and you don't know if you're gonna make it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's dark, and it's ominous.

[SPEAKER_00]: You prayed, and you believed, and you stood, and you still feel like it's so far away.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you go back to our scripture in John chapter 20, it's very clear, it says, while it was still dark, Mary showed up at the tomb, and what she didn't know was that whenever it was dark, God was moving, that when it was dark, something was happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: And in that moment when she showed up, she didn't know that life had already come back into a lifeless body.

[SPEAKER_00]: that virtue had already sprung forth, that there was a power that was released in Jesus to overpower the power of death, and that same spirit that was in Jesus is now in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm here to tell you this morning, and I'm here to prophesy to you this morning, that it might look dark, and it might feel like death, and you might feel like you're overcome.

[SPEAKER_00]: But your story isn't over yet because there's a plot twist that's coming where you're gonna go from death to life We're fried eight turns into Sunday and you are gonna stay defeated and you are gonna stay down and you are gonna stay broken Because Jesus has the keys of death hell and the grave and he is going to emerge in victory and Entry up in your life in every situation if you believe it can you give him one more shout this morning
