  1. All right, let's dive into deliverance, shall we?

  2. Yeah, let's begin here with Matthew 13, the Lord's Prayer.

  3. This then is how you should pray, Jesus said to his disciples when they asked

  4. him a question on how they should pray.

  5. And then he says, our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

  6. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  7. Give us today our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we

  8. also have forgiven our debtors.

  9. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

  10. Beautiful.

  11. So, As I said the word deliverance this morning, chances are across

  12. this room, people's minds have gone to all sorts of places, right?

  13. There'll be a gamut of different understandings around that word this

  14. morning, but what we can interpret and understand and infer from

  15. what Jesus teaches his

  16. disciples here on how to pray is that in some ways, shape or form,

  17. we all need deliverance from evil, and we all need it on the regular.

  18. Yeah, because this isn't just a one time only prayer, is it?

  19. This is a prayer that we are to pray each day.

  20. So there is a sense that deliverance is something that we all need as

  21. followers of Jesus on the regular.

  22. It's not a one time, dramatic event, but it is a life of learning how to live

  23. each in the light, in the way of Jesus.

  24. And we're going to tackle some of that as we go through this morning.

  25. So why are we diving into these waters?

  26. Well, we are doing a series on spiritual warfare, so, and this is a part of that.

  27. Part of the reason also for tackling this topic this morning is there's some

  28. really bad theology on this in the church.

  29. It tends to not be taught terribly well, this topic.

  30. It tends to be just grounded often just very experientially

  31. rather than biblically.

  32. So this really, this morning, is about helping you think biblically on

  33. this topic.

  34. Also too,

  35. you know, within this room, there's probably been a gamut of

  36. experiences and some of you, this might be quite triggering as well.

  37. Perhaps you've had

  38. quite a traatic experience around, something

  39. of the nature of deliverance ministry.

  40. And hopefully this morning might help you in that place as well.

  41. And if you haven't, hopefully maybe this morning will stop you from entering into a

  42. potentially traatic experience

  43. around this topic of deliverance.

  44. But really the key aim is to help us.

  45. Well, help us to think biblically around this topic.

  46. And so as we begin, I just want to touch on a few different scriptures

  47. and I want to just highlight the reality of the demonic realm.

  48. Okay.

  49. We don't like talking in these ways, do we?

  50. But scripture has a lot to say about it.

  51. What can we infer from what the new certain key New Testament passages have

  52. to say around the reality of evil forces that are at work in the world around us.

  53. So let's begin from Romans here, Romans 39.

  54. For I am convinced, writes Paul, that neither death nor life, angels, demons,

  55. present, future, or any powers, neither height nor depth, not anything else in all

  56. creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

  57. So what's the implication?

  58. A implication of what Paul is talking about here?

  59. There are forces, there are powers at work that are trying to get us to

  60. believe that we can be, or that we have been separated from God's love.

  61. That's a win for the enemy, right?

  62. If it can get us to believe that we have been or we can be separated from

  63. God, it puts us in a state of anxiety.

  64. Yeah?

  65. In various different forms.

  66. So next, 21.

  67. Do I mean then that food sacrificed to idol is anything

  68. or that an idol is anything?

  69. No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God.

  70. And I do not want you to be participants with demons.

  71. Again, what is something that we can infer that is relevant for what we are talking

  72. about this morning from this passage?

  73. That we can be participants with demonic forces.

  74. Oh, that's fun.

  75. Isn't it?

  76. All right.

  77. So these are things for us to think about that We would learn to think well about

  78. what scripture has to say on this topic All right Next one corinthians 12 verse

  79. 10 To another and talking about spiritual gifts here to another miraculous powers to

  80. another prophecy to another distinguishing between spirits and To another speaking

  81. in different kinds of tongues and still to another the interpretation of tongues.

  82. So distinguishing between spirits, implication here, that

  83. is a part of being the body.

  84. We need those who are able to discern the source of influence

  85. that's operating in people and in a community because it is not always

  86. good and it is not always obvious.

  87. So the Holy Spirit comes and graces and gifts and empowers certain people to

  88. be able to discern where the source of power Within a person or a community

  89. is coming from we need this gift in operation If you think you have this

  90. gift, I would love to hear from you.

  91. Okay, because I would not say here at red door I know all the people

  92. who are operating in a discerning of spirits gift space But some of you

  93. here will have been graced by god in that way And this body needs you.

  94. All right, 11.

  95. Anyone

  96. you forgive, I also forgive.

  97. And what I have forgiven, if there was anything to forgive, I have forgiven in

  98. the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us.

  99. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

  100. Okay, implication here, Satan is trying to outwit us.

  101. And forgiveness really, really matters in this.

  102. Tempting us to hold on to unforgiveness is one of Satan's key strategies.

  103. Spiritual Warfare 101, Forgiveness.

  104. You know, we want all the bells and whistles, the dramatic stuff, the,

  105. you know, get out in Jesus name and the manifestations, you know.

  106. You wanna walk in Spiritual Warfare, walk in Forgiveness.

  107. Forgiveness is massive.

  108. It is massive.

  109. It is a massive scheme of the enemy to convince us that we are

  110. okay walking in unforgiveness.

  111. Oh, we are not, my friends.

  112. Okay, 2 Corinthians 10, 3 5.

  113. Oh, no, 4, sorry.

  114. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.

  115. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

  116. So the implication here, there are demonic strongholds.

  117. That act as fortifications in our lives that stop us from living according to

  118. the truth and therefore prevent us from living in obedience and in freedom.

  119. All right, Ephesians 4, 26 to 27.

  120. In your anger do not sin, writes Paul.

  121. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry and do

  122. not give the devil a foothold.

  123. Implication here.

  124. Very clear.

  125. We can give demonic forces access to our lives when we walk in unrepentant sin.

  126. Don't just get, don't think it's just anger that gives the enemy a foothold.

  127. That's not really the main point here.

  128. Point is, is that when we walk in in obedience to the ways of

  129. darkness, then we are opening doors.

  130. We're giving access to the enemy in our lives to have influence in our lives.

  131. Okay, 1 Timothy 4 verse 1.

    1 Timothy 4:1

  132. The Spirit clearly says that in latter times some will abandon

  133. the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

  134. So the demonic is so good and convincing and can teach people doctrine that

  135. will cause them to abandon their faith.

  136. The demonic isn't stupid, it's clever, it's tricky, and we can be fooled for

  137. its teaching, fooled by its teaching, if we're not wise to the enemy's schemes.

  138. James 4 verse 7, Submit yourselves then to God, resist

    James 4:7

  139. the devil, he will flee from you.

  140. 1 Be alert of sober mind, the enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring

  141. lion looking for someone to devour.

  142. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.

  143. So, what's the implication here?

  144. That the devil needs resisting.

  145. He wants access to your life.

  146. He wants to devour your life.

  147. And is consistently at work trying to gain that access.

  148. Why?

  149. Because his agenda is to steal, to kill and to destroy.

  150. Alright, let's define some terms here.

  151. Fun?

  152. Good?

  153. Let's go.

  154. Alright.

  155. Oh, actually, just take that down for a second Mal.

  156. Let's talk about a moment what we actually mean by the word deliverance.

  157. And the word deliverance in and of itself in its simplest terms just means rescue.

  158. It is the action of being rescued or set free.

  159. But what we're dealing with today is specifically the area

  160. of deliverance from demonization.

  161. Alright, I'm going to explain that in a moment.

  162. Often when we think deliverance we think it's about possession.

  163. Okay, demonic possession.

  164. I don't find that.

  165. Phrasing to be terribly helpful, because possession implies ownership.

  166. You are owned by God, you are not owned by Satan.

  167. And to make deliverance all about possession actually discounts a whole

  168. gamut of deliverance that we all actually need to participate in and walk in, right?

  169. And, so I find a more helpful word is, is the word demonization.

  170. So let's have a look at what we mean by this.

  171. It's important to define our terms so we're all on the same page.

  172. So demonisation means to be demonised.

  173. That sounds like not a very good time, does it?

  174. Alright, so what do we mean by this?

  175. Any level of influence that demonic forces can have over an individual Can range from

  176. mild influence to more severe oppression, where a demon influences someone's

  177. thoughts, behaviors, or emotions.

  178. It's a part of spiritual warfare.

  179. It requires prayer and discernment and spiritual authority to overcome.

  180. And believers can experience degrees of demonic oppression, but through

  181. faith and spiritual intervention, they can resist and overcome it.

  182. Amen.

  183. All right, so then just get, let's just define a little more clearly what

  184. we mean by deliverance, because what we mean is more than just the casting out

  185. of demons when we're using this word.

  186. So the process through God's power by which a person is set free from the

  187. influence or oppression of demonic forces.

  188. It's a form of spiritual healing that it can involve prayer, confession,

  189. and the exercise of spiritual authority to break the hold that

  190. these forces have on a person's life.

  191. So it's not just about a one time dramatic event, but part of an

  192. ongoing journey, it can be part of an ongoing, can be a one time.

  193. You know, dramatic event.

  194. Some of you, have, you know, have seen that in action, that kind of, situation.

  195. But it can be part of also an ongoing journey of spiritual growth where

  196. people experience freedom from fear, freedom from addiction, from

  197. destructive behaviours, emotional or psychological burdens that are caused.

  198. They have a demonic, origin to them.

  199. So deliverance is a holistic process that involves both spiritual

  200. intervention and practical stir.

  201. steps towards healing and wholeness.

  202. So I just want to say at this point, right, and I touched

  203. on this, my first

  204. message in this series, we can tend towards one of two extremes when we're

  205. dealing with this, this particular topic.

  206. We've got the bury your head in the sand.

  207. Yep, this, this, la la la.

  208. This, this isn't, this isn't a thing.

  209. I'm just not going to think about it.

  210. I'm just not going to pay any attention to it.

  211. Thank you very much.

  212. Or we go, swing to the other end and everything's a demon.

  213. And that's so convenient, isn't it?

  214. You can blame all your bad behavior on a demon.

  215. No, sometimes it's just you my friends and your disobedience to the Lord and as much

  216. as it would be so nice to say it was a demon's fault, it's actually you just need

  217. to pray, repent and get before the Lord.

  218. And this is why community in this is so important, discernment is really,

  219. really important because as much as we can go to either extremes,

  220. there is a reality in this too.

  221. We can come under the influence in varying degrees.

  222. of intensity of evil and demonic forces.

  223. And so what are the different ways demonic forces can manifest in our lives?

  224. Again, you know, just, just have a degree of wisdom.

  225. Okay.

  226. When we, when we say these things, so deception is a key way that Demonic

  227. forces, operate, leading, leading individuals to believe lies about God, or

  228. identity in Christ is a big one, false beliefs, heretical teaching, that kind

  229. of thing.

  230. Temptation

  231. is another way that demonic forces work in our lives, influence

  232. behaviour, accusation and condemnation.

  233. This is a great one.

  234. Demonic forces.

  235. It's one that we, you know, that the average Christian

  236. will often come up against.

  237. Accusation and condemnation.

  238. Demonic forces working by accusing and condemning believers, trying

  239. to undermine their confidence in God's grace and God's forgiveness.

  240. So this comes through as persistent feelings of guilt and

  241. of shame and of unworthiness.

  242. Oppression is the next one.

  243. So it can oppress people by exerting pressure on their

  244. minds, emotions or bodies.

  245. This can include feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, hopelessness.

  246. Now, you know, when I say say these things right, what we gotta

  247. be, what are we gotta be aware of?

  248. You can have feelings of intense fear, anxiety and depression that can have a

  249. demonic origin, but you can have these feelings that doesn't, that don't as well.

  250. Not every sad or bad feeling that you have you can, can you attribute to a demon?

  251. Okay, this is, this is This is again, discernment, discernment in this space.

  252. Influence on behaviour, so demonic forces can influence a person's

  253. thoughts, decisions and actions, leading them to engage in destructive

  254. or self sabotaging behaviour.

  255. So things like addictions, uncontrollable anger, or other behaviours that

  256. harm relationships and the wellbeing

  257. of people.

  258. Physical manifestations, Convulsions,

  259. strange physical phenomena

  260. like superhan strength.

  261. I know some people have seen that

  262. firsthand.

  263. This is often

  264. associated with Bible describes as more of like that possession kind of

  265. understanding of being demonized.

  266. A real severe demonic

  267. influence.

  268. Where the,

  269. where the, where the demonic has so much position they are controlling

  270. a person's, really controlling a person's paper and giving them

  271. abilities beyond their natural ability.

  272. We're good?

  273. All right, great.

  274. Spiritual

  275. blockages.

  276. Demons can

  277. create spiritual blockages that prevent individuals from experiencing the

  278. fullness of God's presence and power.

  279. And this might manifest in inability to pray, worship, read scripture, you

  280. know, I've heard multiple testimonies of that, people just unable to read the

  281. word until they've actually had a moment of deliverance through prayer where

  282. whatever this thing has that has been harassing them, They have been delivered

  283. from that and suddenly they're like, Oh my gosh, I can actually come before

  284. my word.

  285. Now that

  286. being said, you might be struggling with reading your Bible, and that

  287. could just be because you're lazy and you just need to apply yourself again.

  288. All right.

  289. So,

  290. excuse me.

  291. Alright, and finally disturbances in sleep or mental

  292. clarity.

  293. Yeah, this

  294. is a fairly common one.

  295. Sleep disturbances, nightmares, mental fog, making it hard for a person to

  296. find peace or maintain a clarity of

  297. thought.

  298. So, we had an

  299. interesting conversation this week, and this

  300. came up, through an

  301. email that someone sent, but also Thursday mornings Adam has a pastor's prayer

  302. here with a nber of different

  303. pastors and leaders in this

  304. area and I was just

  305. asking the question around, you know, what do you guys all believe about deliverance?

  306. But it came up this

  307. topic of, can an object

  308. be

  309. demonized?

  310. Yeah?

  311. So Adam had

  312. some fun conversations with his past friends.

  313. Are we okay?

  314. Good, fantastic.

  315. Just to go back before I talk about that subject matter real

  316. quick, is that remember the enemy that we have is threefold, right?

  317. There's the, there's the flesh, the world, the demonic, the, the, the satanic.

  318. Does it make sense?

  319. So understand, as Dale talks about these, Phil Baker wrote a great

  320. book, Weird Christians I Have Met.

  321. Does anyone remember that book?

  322. And the chapter outline was like, each chapter was like a

  323. caricature of an extreme position.

  324. And the one that's funny is the guy called Demonic Dave, where everything is a demon.

  325. You know, and Pentecostal Pamela, and Prosperity Pete, and End Time

  326. Ed, you know, all these guys.

  327. And, and so the, But the call here is to, in the midst of highlighting

  328. this dynamic, is also to remember that the approach is not just always this

  329. demon is at the background of this.

  330. Does that

  331. make sense?

  332. So just so

  333. you know, pastorally, when I'm approaching a

  334. pastoral matter, we don't jp to that

  335. conclusion straight away.

  336. I actually approach pastoral response in relationship to like mind, body, spirit.

  337. So we talk about actually, what are you believing?

  338. What is your space in your, do you need to renew your mind to the way God

  339. thinks, like a mental conversation?

  340. Do you need to confess sin?

  341. There's things that happen in the emotions and in the mind

  342. that need to be addressed first.

  343. And then body is more like obedience dynamics, you know, so do you

  344. actually need to make some decisions about how you're going to behave?

  345. You actually need to stop doing these particular types of activities.

  346. And people can find complete and utter freedom and breakthrough

  347. just by doing either one of those first two, but sometimes not.

  348. And so therefore, we go into this spiritual dimension.

  349. So the question at hand is, can an

  350. object be, possessed

  351. by a satanic force?

  352. And the answer, my friends, is yes and no.

  353. It's great, isn't it?

  354. It's great.

  355. Are you clear now?

  356. This is the problem with this particular arena of conversation,

  357. is that there is confusion.

  358. When I say yes, any object you can give a foothold, right, in your life, okay?

  359. So I have seen where someone has been unaware they have had an object

  360. in their house that has been not something that doesn't honour God.

  361. And so in that object, I've seen it, they were unaware, I pointed

  362. it out, we should take that away.

  363. Praise the Lord, they were like, yep, cool, let's get rid of it, got rid of

  364. it, and suddenly there was a little bit of a shift in the atmosphere of

  365. their home.

  366. One funny

  367. story was one lady was trying to sell her house, we got rid of this thing and the

  368. house sold the next five minutes later.

  369. I was, it was, it was quite silly.

  370. But the answer is also, No, in the sense that if you're aware that you

  371. have something, the brain gives, like for instance, like the superstition,

  372. the Asian cultures have a lot of this dynamic in relationship to holding on

  373. to a belief that this object has power.

  374. Right?

  375. So, but it's the belief of that object.

  376. Does that make sense?

  377. And so sometimes you've got to, yes, remove an object, because

  378. yes, but also because you actually have created that in your internal

  379. thinking, which needs to be broken.

  380. And so the wonderful question is, is if you've got an object and you

  381. are reluctant to let go of it, or reluctant to remove it, then there's

  382. a good question to ask, right?

  383. Why?

  384. You should.

  385. No, I can't.

  386. Well, it's actually got a hold on your life.

  387. More importantly, the demonic force has got a hold on your life.

  388. Does that make sense?

  389. Very good.

  390. So the answer is yes and no.

  391. Fantastic.

  392. Well done.

  393. Thank you.

  394. Yeah, I mean

  395. there's a reason I think, you know, second commandment, you

  396. shall have no graven images, right?

  397. We are so prone to wanting to empower the created things, right, and

  398. worship them rather than our creator.

  399. And God knows this.

  400. So he puts it as the second commandment.

  401. You shall have no graven image.

  402. You'll have no object that you are going to subscribe power and

  403. worth to, looking to,

  404. to be some kind of savior in your world.

  405. It is your relationship with me.

  406. And you can't make a idol of a relationship, can you?

  407. Because.

  408. It's

  409. intangible.

  410. Alright.

  411. I want to give you now the four main models for deliverance.

  412. Alright, this is a little bit of a teachy kind of thing.

  413. But I just found this incredibly helpful in understanding how

  414. different people approach this topic.

  415. How they engage in the ministry of

  416. deliverance.

  417. And so different

  418. faith

  419. t , oft hold

  420. to one of these four, I'll say from the get go, there is

  421. wisdom in each of these four.

  422. We're not going to get to the end of the go, and this is the

  423. right one that you all must

  424. adhere to.

  425. Each has

  426. its strengths and each has some pretty significant

  427. weaknesses, as well if

  428. you make that particular model the whole thing.

  429. And so the gospel model, I mean, that's an interesting one there.

  430. These

  431. are your, your branches

  432. of

  433. the church, that you

  434. would call cessationists.

  435. So that believe that the gifts of the spirit are no longer needed.

  436. It ended with the apostles.

  437. And so the belief here is the gospel model

  438. is that, Christians

  439. cannot actually be demonized, that the answer, the, the, The deliverance

  440. that everybody needs is the gospel.

  441. And once you have been saved, once you've heard the gospel, responded

  442. to the gospel, professed faith in Jesus for your salvation, professed

  443. him as Lord, you are delivered.

  444. And then the demonic then can no longer have any foothold in your life.

  445. So the Gospel is the answer.

  446. So the argent here is

  447. that the Holy Spirit and the demonic spirit can't occupy the same space,

  448. can't occupy the same person.

  449. Once the Holy Spirit sets up shop inside a person, then there

  450. can be no, the demonic

  451. can't occupy that same space.

  452. But nowhere in the epistles do you see, this is an interesting point that they

  453. make, nowhere in Like the letters after the gospels, do you see any commands

  454. or instructions to cast out a demon?

  455. Cause the actual casting out of demons we only see happening in the

  456. gospels.

  457. So that is

  458. an interesting observation here with the

  459. gospel model.

  460. So therefore

  461. you just preach and apply the gospel and look to the spirit for growth

  462. in righteousness and you resist any other temptation just by standing on

  463. the word.

  464. All right, so that's the gospel model.

  465. Then we got the power encounter model.

  466. This is probably the one we're more traditionally kind of

  467. associate with deliverance.

  468. So this is where there is a direct confrontation between demonic

  469. force and the authority of Jesus.

  470. So in this model deliverance happens when believers Using the name and the power

  471. of Jesus they command demons to leave or stop influencing a person's life The

  472. emphasis is on spiritual authority and warfare where the goal is to bring freedom

  473. by casting out breaking the power of an evil spirit So it involves, you know,

  474. commanding a demon to manifest itself.

  475. It's really it really engages the demonic which is the I'm not a massive fan.

  476. I think this has its place sometimes, but it really requires engaging

  477. demonic forces, binding them

  478. in the name of Jesus, getting information from them, what's your

  479. name, what's your ground, the ground you're standing on, your place of

  480. attachment.

  481. So breaking

  482. bonds, cancelling ground by confessing of sin and casting

  483. out.

  484. So, Yeah, so,

  485. often this can manifest in very dramatic ways.

  486. This is why I'm not a massive fan of this because it often

  487. leaves a poor person quite

  488. traatised.

  489. And I don't

  490. think it's actually necessary for a person to experience deliverance for

  491. it to be, this.

  492. you know, very, dynamic, you know,

  493. often it's

  494. very shouty.

  495. Some reason

  496. people, Christians can sometimes think the demonic are deaf.

  497. So I've got to actually like yell at them.

  498. And really what that is, that's just a posture of trying to stir up

  499. your own authority really, isn't it?

  500. And because if you're truly grounded in the authority of Christ and you

  501. know, he has defeated every evil force, you don't need to get shouty.

  502. They're

  503. not deaf.

  504. You know,

  505. this

  506. a brings up the topic of

  507. corporate deliverance.

  508. Some of you might have seen that

  509. happen where in a, say

  510. in a space like this, somebody will get up to deliver an entire group

  511. of people from a specific daemon.

  512. Not to say that there can't be deliverance experience in those spaces, but again

  513. I, Our approach would not advise that.

  514. Don't think it's very pastorally caring for people in that space.

  515. Can be

  516. quite traatic.

  517. Again,

  518. not just for somebody who might be delivered in that moment, but for those

  519. watching on, particularly

  520. with the nature of certain, the sin that might be required

  521. to be renounced in that space.

  522. And so if a person is confessing some

  523. deeply traatic sin,

  524. and it's like, you just don't know what that's going to trigger for

  525. those around, it just seems very

  526. Wild West.

  527. Very cowboy,

  528. just, just, yeah.

  529. We didn't see Jesus

  530. modeling, that kind

  531. of

  532. approach.

  533. But again,

  534. I do think there are times where the demonic power has such a hold on

  535. somebody and they are such a danger to themselves and others that this

  536. direct encounter could actually be what

  537. is needed.

  538. Still means

  539. you can still go in that gracious, authority of Jesus and not, you

  540. know, pull out your six shooters and start firing all over

  541. the place.

  542. All right.

  543. Then there's the truth encounter model.

  544. Now as a teacher, this is naturally the one that I am going to

  545. lean into.

  546. So, the Truth

  547. Encounter Model believes that, you know, Christians can fall prey to deception.

  548. They can yield control to

  549. demonic forces.

  550. So the truth

  551. that Christians are rescued out of dominion of darkness into the

  552. kingdom of Christ, and all sin has been forgiven at the cross.

  553. It actually cancels all demonic rights over a believer, but we can still yield

  554. through disobedience, through unbelief,

  555. through, sin.

  556. submitting

  557. to false teaching, we can

  558. still yield, to the influence

  559. of the demonic.

  560. But overall, all demonic rites have been cancelled over us

  561. through the work of the cross.

  562. Amen.

  563. So in this model, deliverance isn't primarily about casting out demons, but

  564. it's about exposing deceptive beliefs or thoughts that give evil forces access.

  565. So the core idea is demonic influence often takes hold through lies.

  566. And the way to break that power is by embracing and living out God's truth.

  567. It's the renewing of the mind.

  568. Be transformed by coming before

  569. the truth.

  570. It, so this

  571. model involves helping people identify areas of their lives where they've

  572. believed lies about themselves, about God, around the world, about

  573. the world around them, and guiding them to understanding and acceptance.

  574. in those areas.

  575. So it's a much more of a discipleship focus, yeah?

  576. So, it's about bringing people into alignment with

  577. the truth.

  578. That they

  579. continue then walking in alignment with that truth.

  580. So

  581. in this, model of

  582. deliverance, it involves talking with the person and not demonic forces.

  583. You're not paying them any

  584. attention at all.

  585. It's helping

  586. the Christian personalise the truth of their identity in Christ

  587. and overcoming the deceptions that they've fallen prey to.

  588. So it involves confession and forgiveness,

  589. renouncing, beliefs or

  590. unholy behaviours, attachments, those kind of thing, and then

  591. a recommitment, a rededication

  592. to Jesus.

  593. And then

  594. finally there's the deep healing model.

  595. So this is a very therapeutic approach, and this is dealing really

  596. with things like, where there's

  597. deep, traa, unresolved

  598. pain, harmful patterns that are creating a vulnerability to demonic forces

  599. there.

  600. So, this is a

  601. really holistic

  602. approach and this would

  603. probably be, you know, quite in line, you know, with what we do here on

  604. a Wednesday with prayer ministry is probably this you know, more deep

  605. healing model where it's that real space to explore where are the deep wounds

  606. that perhaps demonic forces have got

  607. permission, deep traas in your

  608. life, deep patterns of sinful behavior that have come through

  609. your family that are strongholds in

  610. your life.

  611. And so it

  612. is, it is, it is takes time, but it's gentle

  613. and it's,

  614. And it's a space for that deep healing to take place.

  615. Alright, so there are

  616. the four, key models

  617. there.

  618. Adam just wants to add something.

  619. Are you

  620. enjoying this, combination

  621. approach here to the seat this

  622. morning?

  623. So, having that

  624. list still up there, can you

  625. see that, There's a

  626. tendency for someone to experience breakthrough in one of those

  627. four things, and what happens?

  628. Welcome to

  629. being a han.

  630. We think

  631. this is the ultimate truth of this ministry.

  632. And see what the body does?

  633. The body of Christ, globally, will attach themselves to one of

  634. those four things as their primary thought around deliverance ministry.

  635. And guess what that creates in the body of Christ?

  636. Division.

  637. And so, let me say to you, our Red Door family, do not let this conversation

  638. become a divisive conversation.

  639. Do you hear me?

  640. This is the playing into the enemy's schemes.

  641. What's his scheme?

  642. Division.

  643. See what I'm saying?

  644. Like, it's sort of self evident

  645. in a way.

  646. Where did

  647. my notes go?

  648. Oh, okay.

  649. Cool.

  650. Don't put deliverance ministry in the middle.

  651. Put the ministry of Jesus in the middle.

  652. Does that make sense?

  653. It's a part of this, but it's not in the middle.

  654. And the

  655. reason why hans put it

  656. in the middle is because when you see a breakthrough in somebody,

  657. man, it's awesome, right?

  658. You know, this must be it.

  659. We've found the secret.

  660. And then suddenly we put it in the middle and it actually shouldn't be there.

  661. Jesus, the ministry of Jesus should be in

  662. the middle.

  663. And just

  664. one little thought on spending 16 hours trying to get information from a

  665. demonic Like something on the inside of someone is a waste of time because why?

  666. They serve the master of lies, right?

  667. And so this requires discernment Because it can be very confusing And

  668. so we need discernment to know how to handle this and walk through it with

  669. with love and grace in Jesus name

  670. beautiful one picture

  671. I'll just give you which it might be helpful to understand

  672. perhaps.

  673. Cause I think

  674. it's a good point the gospel model brings up.

  675. Is that, well can a person who has the Holy Spirit, how can God's presence and

  676. evil forces dwell in the same space?

  677. Well, you know, go read the Book of Job.

  678. Apparently they can.

  679. Cause, you know, the Satan, you know, goes and has a chat

  680. with God.

  681. But I think

  682. one helpful picture is actually the picture of

  683. the temple.

  684. So if you

  685. picture the, the, the temple, you've got the Holy of Holies, right?

  686. Now nothing can reside in the Holy of Holies except the presence of God.

  687. Yeah?

  688. You, if you're a believer in Jesus, are now that temple, right?

  689. However, in the outer courts of the temple, and we saw the Israelites

  690. doing this, all other manner of

  691. things can be, gathered

  692. in the outer courts.

  693. And as that, if that's a picture of our life, you can, all sorts

  694. of weird and wonderful idols that are occupying your thinking,

  695. your understanding, your worship.

  696. You know, Adam talked about objects, right?

  697. One of his first things he did when he came to Christ, he threw

  698. out a truckload of objects.

  699. What were those objects?

  700. They were CDs, right?

  701. It was music that did not honour God.

  702. Now, was there any inherent power in the actual object?

  703. No, no, no.

  704. But these were, these were things that were cluttering his temple, that

  705. were not bringing glory to God, yeah?

  706. And that, cause, a source of demonic access into his life, if he was

  707. to continue feeding on this stuff.

  708. And I think, I don't know, I have, I found that a helpful way of framing,

  709. maybe forming a mental image of how demonic forces can gain access.

  710. Even this morning, I'm sitting in my, sitting in my little prayer space at

  711. home, and I'm going, you know what, there's a very big difference, right?

  712. I can, I, if, if, if a demon was to come and occupy residence in our house,

  713. Now, he would be exerting quite a significant degree of influence in the

  714. culture of our home, wouldn't he, right?

  715. We go, okay, well, hopefully I've got enough smarts to not

  716. be allowing that to happen.

  717. But even if there was a demon that was running around the outside of my

  718. house, banging on the windows, right?

  719. He can't come in.

  720. But gee, he's an almighty just intimidating distraction.

  721. Yeah?

  722. And so, not even, so, that's where the more harassment kind of form of demonic

  723. influence can come, is like banging on the windows of your house, the house

  724. that is your inner world, your mind, your heart, and bringing harassing thoughts

  725. and accusations and condemnations.

  726. That just derail you, or

  727. unsettle you, and perhaps

  728. some of you can resonate with that.

  729. You go, oh yeah, we can take influence, we can take authority over these things.

  730. We don't just have to sit there and go, oh, you know.

  731. We stand up, and the authority we have in Jesus, and we take authority over

  732. those things.

  733. In prayer,

  734. and if we're not sure how, we say, hey.

  735. Come see us.

  736. You know, I've got this stuff going on.

  737. It's really harassing the living daylights out of me.

  738. Can you help me?

  739. Yes, of course, we can absolutely help you.

  740. All right, so I will say this, if you're

  741. here and some of this stuff is like, oh gosh, I feel like perhaps

  742. there is a really strong source of demonic influence in my life.

  743. There's like addictive patterns.

  744. You are really in.

  745. you're stuck in.

  746. There's, there's condemning thoughts that just seem to have

  747. to be demonically animated.

  748. We all have negative thoughts, right?

  749. Yeah.

  750. And we all can, can fall prey to our own unhelpful self talk, but

  751. sometimes there are those thoughts that are just demonically animated

  752. and they are just so vicious and

  753. accusing.

  754. And again, like, just come and talk to us and let us pray with you.

  755. And perhaps prayer ministry might be something helpful

  756. for you.

  757. You know

  758. what, I do need, I probably do need to touch on this too.

  759. You know, we live in a age and an era and a space that is, you

  760. know, ever heightening awareness of issues around mental health.

  761. The church does a horrible job of dealing with the realities of mental health

  762. when we just make it all about demons.

  763. And we just, cause some poor person is presenting with

  764. some mental health challenge.

  765. And we go, well we just need to cast the demons out of you.

  766. Just don't do that, okay?

  767. It's not helpful.

  768. You know, it

  769. might be, but it might

  770. not be either.

  771. And if you're not actually qualified to diagnose, just don't diagnose.

  772. You know, how

  773. about that?

  774. How about

  775. just pray for the person, with the person and allow the Lord to be their deliverer?

  776. Not you.

  777. And if you're not sure, just, you know, encourage them to, you know,

  778. come and talk to the leadership of the church here, or to actually go see

  779. somebody, who actually

  780. has some qualifications in that space.

  781. Because we can really, we can do real damage when we just go, Oh, it's a demon.

  782. And you just, you know, just go all Wild West on the person.

  783. It can be, so we've got to walk with such careful discernment in this space.

  784. And as we bring this to a close, I want to touch on this.

  785. All right.

  786. The message of the cross, and this all must come back to Jesus.

  787. We don't engage in deliverance because we need to scratch

  788. and itch for the spectacular.

  789. Yeah?

  790. We gotta be really careful of that.

  791. The message of the cross is the message of our deliverance.

  792. And it is the message of Passover.

  793. And I wanna say this, what is the message of Passover?

  794. Jesus is the Passover lamb.

  795. That's what he demonstrated when he went to the cross.

  796. What is the message of Passover?

  797. The story of Passover, the original Passover, was deliverance.

  798. Yeah, we make the cross often all about atonement.

  799. What do I mean by that?

  800. My sins are forgiven?

  801. Well, I'll go on off and do whatever I like.

  802. Right?

  803. Because my sins are forgiven, praise the Lord, and I've got my ticket to heaven.

  804. Okay.

  805. Yes, your sins are forgiven by the blood of Christ that was shed on

  806. the cross, and He was your perfect sacrifice, covering your sin, past,

  807. present, future, now, and forevermore.

  808. But He was the Passover Lamb.

  809. Which means he is the one that through his act of death and

  810. resurrection, he is your deliverer.

  811. He is the one that rescues you from evil, from darkness, and brings

  812. you into his kingdom of light.

  813. The Israelites, they weren't just rescued out of Egypt, were they?

  814. They were rescued into the promised land.

  815. Same for us.

  816. We're not just rescued out of something.

  817. We're not just delivered out of.

  818. We are delivered into.

  819. We are delivered into a life of faithfulness to Jesus Christ.

  820. That's our promised land.

  821. Yeah?

  822. Our promised land isn't just this holding pattern until we go die and

  823. be with Jesus in the sweet by and by.

  824. It's horrible theology right there.

  825. We are delivered into the promised land now that we would walk in faithfulness

  826. to Jesus now, so we pursue deliverance for ourselves and one another.

  827. We pursue freedom from demonic forces for ourselves and one another so

  828. that we can walk in faithfulness to Jesus in the here and now.

  829. He is not a therapist.

  830. And sometimes that's what we turn him into.

  831. He's just here to be therapy for people.

  832. He's just here so they can go to therapist Jesus and then live their

  833. best life now for their own sake and their own freedom and their own glory.

  834. No.

  835. It is all about living faithfully to Jesus, so that we can be

  836. conduit for heaven to come on earth in the here and now.

  837. We can participate in the mission of Christ now.

  838. So we pursue deliverance and rescue for people, so that they can

  839. join in with the work of Christ.

  840. Yes, so they can be free, right?

  841. That matters to God.

  842. He is a compassionate good father.

  843. We're not just his slaves, right?

  844. He cares about us in our places of bondage.

  845. It breaks his heart that we would be enslaved to demonic and evil forces.

  846. He deeply desires our freedom, but then we are called to something so much more.

  847. We are delivered from, we are delivered in to faithfulness to Jesus.

  848. And that's the end game here.

  849. Yeah.

  850. Beautiful.

  851. All right.

  852. Team, how

  853. about you come on up?

  854. Let's

  855. speak Jesus.

  856. Yeah.

  857. Yeah,

  858. and one final thing I will say as the team gets

  859. prepared,

  860. for me personally, my greatest moments of deliverance has actually come from

  861. just living a confessional lifestyle.

  862. Are you practicing confession?

  863. Because you know that is Spiritual Warfare 101.

  864. Yeah, if you're just living a confessional life where you have

  865. people around you when you can say, Man, I am, you know, I did this the

  866. other day.

  867. And you can

  868. confess your sin one to another, that you would be forgiven.

  869. healed.

  870. Yeah.

  871. Sometimes we want, we pursue things like prayer ministry.

  872. We pursue things like, you know, more, I guess, dynamic forms of

  873. deliverance because we just, we want the McDonald's drive thru version.

  874. You know, we just, we want the bit that doesn't actually cost

  875. us that it doesn't cost us the lifestyle of obedience to Jesus.

  876. It doesn't cost us being deeply, profoundly vulnerable on the regular with

  877. those around us as we confess our stu sometimes seemingly stupid sins, right?

  878. That we can be so ashamed of.

  879. that stops us confessing those sins, is you could have deliverance, but if

  880. you have, your mind's not being renewed and you're not learning how to walk

  881. in faithfulness to Jesus, you're just going to open up those doorways again.

  882. So this is why discipleship has to be so central around this topic

  883. as well.

  884. So are you

  885. practicing confession?

  886. Because yeah, as much as we can talk about these wonderful aspects of spiritual

  887. warfare, the real profound work is done in the simple, faithful acts of things

  888. like confessing our sins one to another.

  889. Amen.

  890. Alright, church, how about you stand and let us worship.
