Hey, what's up, everybody?
-
Welcome to One Church.
-
So good to see you.
-
Thank you for being here.
-
Those of you here in person, everybody online.
-
My name's Greg.
-
I'm gonna get right into the message.
-
Uh, make sure I'm a good steward of your time so that we can get you out of the parking lot quickly.
-
I want you to know we are working logistically to try to get this parking thing as best we can.
-
We literally have a guy, a leader in the church that goes up every week on the roof of the church and he times the exiting.
-
All right, because we're trying to get as good as we can to serve you well so you can beat the Baptist of the buffet.
-
Come on, can I get a witness?
-
Can I get a witness?
-
Okay.
-
All right, that had nothing to do with God or scripture or anything.
-
That was just uh just good stuff.
-
All right, well, we're gonna uh jump in.
-
We're we started a series a few weeks ago called Interrupted, talking about what do we do with life's interruptions.
-
They happen.
-
Uh C.S.
-
Lewis, I started with a quote from him.
-
He says, Um, you know, many of much of what we call interruptions are actually one's real life.
-
He said, What we call real life is actually a figment of one's imagination, that it's often actually the interruptions where uh, you know, we change direction, or uh it's just part of a big part of our life.
-
So we have to embrace it.
-
We have to have an expectation that we will be interrupted.
-
And I think there are times that maybe in the moment we don't appreciate being interrupted, but we look back and go, actually, it was probably good that that happened.
-
I'll say, here's one little one.
-
Like, have you ever been like on your phone?
-
Okay, you're reading some article, which leads to another article, which leads to another article.
-
Next thing you know, you've been on your phone reading articles for like two hours, and some you were one of your kids, or somebody comes in and interrupts you, and you're like, what?
-
And then and then and then you're like, oh yeah, it's probably good I should put this down.
-
You know, I really was into an article.
-
It didn't really matter that much, and this matters a lot more.
-
Sometimes you got to kind of be snapped out of it.
-
And uh, and I think sometimes life interruptions have a way of taking the things we thought were important, the things that we thought were worth our time, and sometimes it's the interruption that causes us to even re-evaluate our priorities and what's more important and what should get my focus.
-
We're looking at Mark chapter 5.
Mark 5 chapter mention
-
So if you have your Bible, you can you can go there if you don't know the Bible really well.
-
Start in the middle and go right.
-
All right, it's right after Matthew.
-
So if you see Matthew, it's Mark is the next one.
-
And uh Mark chapter 5, we see Jesus interrupted multiple times, and we're learning from him what to do about it.
Mark 5 chapter mention
-
Um, in the beginning of Mark 5, he uh cast demons out of a man, uh, and the man goes from being in tremendous bondage to now tremendous freedom.
-
Of course, he's really excited about being free because he knew what it was like to be bound.
-
By the way, when you have lived in bondage, you appreciate freedom more.
-
When you've been sick, you appreciate health more.
-
When you've been broke, you appreciate a little bit of money more.
-
And so often it's the areas where we've struggled or suffered and we know bondage, that when we find freedom, we number one appreciate the freedom more, but number two, become very passionate about others living in freedom as well.
-
So this man says, Hey, Jesus, I'll I'll be your wingman, I'll go with you wherever, I'll help you out.
-
And Jesus says, I got a better idea.
-
Go home and be a blessing to your family.
-
Go home, be a testimony to your community, to your neighbors and your neighborhood, and let them see this man that was once in bondage, now living in freedom, and maybe they'll have hope that even though they may have a different kind of bondage, it's still bondage and they can be free too.
-
So Jesus sends him on, and then he goes to the other side of the lake, and once he gets there, a bunch of people show up, and he is interrupted by a guy named Jairus, who interrupts him for good reason.
-
He says, Jesus, my daughter, my little girl, is on her deathbed and she's about to die.
-
Time is of the essence.
-
So Jesus squares away and he begins walking with Jairus to his house, and as he does that, they are interrupted again.
-
And it's by a woman who has been bleeding, menstruating for 12 years incessantly nonstop.
-
And it says in Mark 5, verse 28, she thought to herself, If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.
-
Immediately the bleeding stopped.
-
So she fights through a crowd of people, she touches Jesus and she stops bleeding.
-
It says she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.
-
And Jesus realized that once the healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around to the crowd and he asked, Who touched my robe?
-
And his disciples said to him, Look at this crowd pressing around you.
-
How can you ask who touched me?
-
But he kept on looking around to see who had done it.
-
And look at this, verse 33.
-
The frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done.
-
And he said to her, Daughter, the only woman in all of the gospels that Jesus calls daughter, daughter, your faith has made you well.
-
Go in peace.
-
Your suffering is over.
-
We have a tendency when you read something like that, and when you read Mark 5, the story transitions away now from this woman with the issue of blood, and now transitions back to gyrus.
-
And when you end on a line like your suffering is over, we have a tendency to roll the credits or to put up, you know, and then she lives happily ever after, uh, that her suffering was over and it's now this ultimate happy ending.
-
And the reality is when Jesus said her suffering is over, he meant the physical pain and suffering that you have in relation to your 12-year hemorrhage is done.
-
What he wasn't saying is that you will never suffer again.
-
Because her challenges, she had many challenges that were still in front of her.
-
Jesus does this miracle and this healing very publicly, and when you look sort of at the nuance of what he does, when he stops and he talks to this woman and he calls her out, he could have just healed her on sort of a walk by, drive-by, you know, and thumbs up and all this.
-
But he stops and he does a lot, and he he draws attention to her.
-
She's kind of hiding in the crowd, and he finds her and he brings her out, and she's somewhat embarrassed because she has broken the rules and she's broken the law and she's been unclean.
-
And by the way, for 12 years, she's been an outcast.
-
So when you've been an outcast for 12 years, and now everybody's looking at you, and there's been attention drawn to you that's overwhelming.
-
And so Jesus draws attention.
-
Why does he do it?
-
Not to humiliate her, not to embarrass her, not to just make her uncomfortable, but a few things.
-
One, he wanted to announce to everybody this woman's healed, so she didn't have to go out and prove it to everybody.
-
Okay, it's proven she's healed.
-
Number two, he's making sure that people know that she didn't make him dirty, he made her clean, and he's making a big statement about who he is and what he's about.
-
Number three, he's talking to her about her faith because she was not uh a passive character in her healing, she was an active participant.
-
Okay, she didn't just lay in bed that day and Jesus walked by and waved at her house and she got healed.
-
This woman got up, got herself dressed, fought through a crowd, reached out, touched Jesus, and had the faith to believe that she would be healed.
-
If she had stayed in bed that day, she would not have been healed.
-
And so Jesus essentially, in his language, gives her all the credit.
-
Your faith has healed you.
-
Now we know the reality.
-
Nothing happens without God's power.
-
It's in him we live, move, and have our being.
-
So, so so he woke you up today.
-
He put breath in your lungs today, he kept your heart beating today.
-
All of that is the power of God.
-
But he says, hey, don't think that healing happens with your passivity.
-
You cared enough to get dressed.
-
If you didn't get dressed and you didn't get up and you didn't get after it today, and use everything you had to get to me today, you would still be bleeding.
-
So he's introducing, he's introducing her as an active participant.
-
Then he's making a statement to the community because healing happens in community.
-
Damage often happens through people, and healing often happens through people.
-
And the community was gonna need to be a part of her healing because 12 years she's been an outcast, she's gotten pretty good at being an outcast.
-
What's gonna happen when she goes back into the synagogue?
-
What happens when the friend she hasn't been able to sit on their couch for 12 years, she knocks on the door to re-enter society, to put in a job application, to go back to the family function, to come out of hiding.
-
And so Jesus says, Hey, that faith that you had that got you up and dressed today, you're going to need it when you go back to the synagogue.
-
You're gonna need more healing.
-
There's more to this.
-
Because when Jesus caused her bleeding to stop, it didn't mean that she would never bleed again.
-
Today's message is called the period after the healing.
-
You see what I did there?
-
Did you get that?
-
Yeah, yeah.
-
Um, according to my research, periods last about six days.
-
Is that true?
-
anybody?
-
Seven.
-
Anyone have seven?
-
Nobody.
-
Seven?
-
Eight.
-
Do I hear nine?
-
Feel like an auctioneer up in here.
-
Anybody ever had a nine?
-
So we're at eight right now.
-
Going once, going twice, sold to this sister right here.
-
Make sure we pray for her after serving.
-
This woman, now let's think about, let's think about the concept of a cycle.
-
Let's think about what menstruation is.
-
A cycle is you a woman has an egg that is an opportunity.
-
The egg is an opportunity to be fertilized.
-
And yet the reality is, even in a healthy woman, many more eggs will go unfertilized and will die than the ones that will be fertilized.
-
Even if you have 10 babies, 12 babies, whatever, you're really fertile.
-
You will have more eggs die.
-
So every month, and I again I'm I'm I'm walking with caution here because I understand for a man to stand up here and talk about the blessing of menstruation is a bit in poor taste.
-
But what I do want to say is it's really an amazing thing if you think about the macro picture of what happens in the body of a woman every month, is that you have an opportunity emerge, an egg that could be fertilized, and if it's fertilized, it comes to life and it grows.
-
But if it doesn't, it dies, and there's grief and there's pain and there's blood.
-
It's worth noting that not every opportunity in your life is meant to be fertilized.
-
Some, even in a healthy person, some eggs are meant to die and bleed, and for there to be a period and a state of mourning and grieving, but weeping may endure for a night.
-
A new egg will come in the morning, a new joy will come in the morning, a new opportunity will come in the morning.
-
So it's okay to grieve a relationship that died, it's okay to grieve an opportunity that died, it's okay to grieve a job or a dream that died, but you have to mourn not as those who have no hope, but those who do have hope that God's going to bring something new, a new opportunity.
-
And that blood, when it stops, is letting you know that a new opportunity is on the horizon.
-
Now, for a woman who was stuck in something that was meant to cycle, she didn't experience new hope and new opportunity.
-
She experienced nothing but death day after day, month after month, year after year, just death with no new opportunity over and over again, to the point that now her reality, her life is 12 years of death.
-
12 years of death, 12 years of no new opportunity, 12 years of outcast, 12 years of isolation, 12 years of not having something new be born, or even to have an opportunity.
-
So this has become her normal.
-
Okay, Jesus didn't say you'll never bleed again.
-
He said, Your suffering is over related to this issue.
-
What happens next month when she bleeds again?
-
Because there is a certain amount of suffering and death and pain and bleeding that comes with being healthy.
-
To feel traumatized.
-
This reminds me of that.
-
This feels like that.
-
And what happens often is when something like this that happens, even in a healthy way, the cycle returns.
-
Now the blood reminds me of 12 years of being stuck, and now my mind starts to get away from me.
-
And I start to question, was I even healed at all?
-
At the first evidence of blood, the mind games of here we go again.
-
Here we go again.
-
It's just the beginning of another 12 years, and how real that would be versus being instead of being able to really grasp the fact that you know what, this thing, although it might remind me of 12 years, this is actually part of being healthy, and I'm going to embrace it and to actually take that healing and move to a new healing.
-
Here's the reality suffering and issues.
-
Issues often lead to other issues.
-
Issues often lead when issues don't heal, they lead to other issues.
-
One issue leads to another issue, and they often compound.
-
This is why Jesus says to her, your faith has healed you, you need to know, because you're not done healing.
-
It could be for a woman who's been hiding, it could be as scary.
-
Bible says, by the way, she was trembling and was afraid when he healed her.
-
She was afraid.
-
Afraid of what?
-
Well, we're not totally sure.
-
Maybe she was just afraid because she was overwhelmed at all the eyes being on her, or maybe there was a little piece of her that went, oh my goodness, I loathed the bleeding for 12 years, but I've I've gotten comfortable with walls.
-
I've gotten comfortable in isolation, I'm good at outcast.
-
Now I got to go back to the synagogue.
-
Now I've got to re-enter.
-
What do I do?
-
She's trembling, she's afraid.
-
And Jesus understood that if she didn't see herself as an active participant in her healing when she now needed to heal emotionally, and she now needed to heal relationally, she was gonna need the same faith where she had a physical healing to take into her relational and emotional healing.
-
And especially when she started to bleed again, even in a healthy way.
-
Issues often lead to other issues.
-
Let me let me give you a hypothetical situation, okay?
-
Imagine for a moment, and maybe this is your reality, but I'm not thinking of anyone, so uh, but think of it like let's not make it an issue of blood, let's make it a different issue.
-
Let's pretend like you were adopted, okay?
-
So at some point you get old enough that you become aware of the fact that your first set of parents, your biological parents, gave you up for adoption.
-
And so that's gonna hit you in some way, that's gonna affect you.
-
You're gonna go, man, that like I wasn't wanted, you know.
-
Uh that will hit there.
-
We have a core need and desire to not be abandoned and to be wanted and desired.
-
And so that may mess with you.
-
So let's pretend like it really messed with you.
-
And and now you're adopted by a family, and maybe they mean well, good intentions, they want to give a child a home, and yet that relationship's complicated.
-
And sometimes uh children that know they were put up for adoption maybe will test their adopted parents, go, but how in it are you really?
-
How committed are you really?
-
What are the you know, what's your tap-out point, what's your tipping point?
-
And and so they might push boundaries and push buttons, and and maybe that family isn't so good at handling that, and at some point that relationship now is fractured.
-
So my first issue spills over into my second issue.
-
It's not all them, it's not all me, it's some combination, but now I've lost not one set, but two sets of parents.
-
And now all of the future eggs or opportunities for relationship, I'm affected by my 12-year issue of blood.
-
I'm affected by where I've been.
-
And so now that issue, that that relationship, and now two failed parental relationships now affect how I feel about romantic relationships or about marriage.
-
And so maybe there's part of me that really wants to get married because I don't want to be alone.
-
And I do want some proof that somebody wants to stay with me and somebody wants me around, and somebody desires me, and somebody chooses me, and somebody won't leave me, and so I get in, but yet I still have a little bit in my mind of some proof that it's me against the world.
-
Because foundational relationships have not worked out for me, they've crumbled.
-
It's not a firm foundation.
-
And so here I am now, and I've I'm I I've got my defense mechanism.
-
So I'm doing things like I'm being as marketable as I can, and I'm getting as educated as I can, and I want to make sure that that I always have a fallback and that I always have a place to go.
-
So I'm developing survival skills.
-
And and by the way, I now have some unique conflict skills.
-
Okay, when those conflict, when I start to get evidence that this person, are you gonna leave me to?
-
And I start to feel rejected, or I start to feel like I don't have any value, I start retreating into this hobby, or I start retreating into this behavior, I start doing that, and I'm passive aggressive, or I'm aggressive aggressive.
-
Every personality type can bring dysfunction into a relationship.
-
So now that's affecting this, which then also affects do I even want to have kids?
-
Would I want to have kids?
-
I'm not here to talk you into kids, but do you want you go, do I want to have kids?
-
Maybe I do, maybe I don't.
-
What what if what if then you start thinking it out, okay?
-
Because I've been left twice, two sets of parents, my marriage is not going so good.
-
She might leave, he might leave.
-
And then I go, well, what if I have kids?
-
What if I blow that relationship up too?
-
What if I lose two sets of parents, a marriage, and my relationship with my kids are all shattered?
-
That might be too much to bear.
-
So you're dealing with one issue affecting the next.
-
Issues tend to affect and create other issues.
-
But the same is true of healing.
-
Issues often create other issues, but healings often create other healings.
-
As God heals you in this area, often it will spill over into this area.
-
So let's let's imagine the woman with the issue of blood, same concept.
-
You come to the to the feet of Jesus, you come to his garment, you get yourself dressed, you fight through the crowd, you get to Jesus and you have a breakthrough, and you realize, you know what, I'm not going the right direction.
-
And maybe it happens after your first adopted uh parents are lost, or your second.
-
At some point, you have this defining moment.
-
And in this defining moment, you have a breakthrough and you see things differently, and you have a revelation of God, and you now have new hope and new belief, and and in a sense, you're, I mean, maybe there were tears and there were deep conversations and a lot of good things.
-
There was some purging and some some, I mean, it was deep.
-
And so now you're here and you have a new optimism.
-
Nobody can talk you out of.
-
You have joy, and things are going well, and those healings can can can actually latch onto the other healings, and you are you are an active person in this, an active participant.
-
One of the things we learned from the woman with the issue of blood is that she was part of it and she would need to be a part of the next part of it.
-
But you it what happens though?
-
What happens when something happens in that relationship that reminds you of the last one?
-
What happens when there's blood?
-
Even within the healthy menstruation.
-
You come out of an unhealthy 12-year issue relationship and you head into a new one.
-
What happens when you get in an argument?
-
What happens when you feel not valued?
-
What happens when something happens that kind of reminds you of that?
-
Do you go backwards or do you continue to fight from healing to healing to healing?
-
And you can't just sit back and hope it happens.
-
These are things you have to fight for.
-
You have to fight for truth, you have to fight for for uh new belief, you have to you have to take thoughts captive.
-
Look, look what the apostle Paul says in uh Philippians 3, 13 and 14.
-
He says, one thing I do, forgetting what is behind, straining toward what is ahead, I press toward the goal.
-
I love how Paul says this one thing I do, and then he says three things.
-
Hello.
-
He says, This one thing I do, forgetting what is behind.
-
What does he mean by that?
-
Forgetting what is behind.
-
He's not saying I have no memory of what's behind.
-
He's not saying forgetting what is behind isn't that I have no memory of the past.
-
12.
-
Years.
-
He's not saying I have no memory.
-
He's saying I'm taking the past and I'm putting it in the past and I'm not focusing on it.
-
I'm not taking my 12-year past and imposing it on my future when I feel when I have my next period after my healing that I'm going, that's in the past.
-
And so he says, forgetting what is behind.
-
And look how proactive this language is.
-
And straining, he says, straining toward what is ahead.
-
I press, he says, I press toward the goal.
-
So this is active, active.
-
This isn't I just lay back and Jesus heals me and I, you know, uh I don't do anything about it.
-
No, this is a fight, scrap, straining, pressing, pushing to the past of the past.
-
And where it gets very difficult is when I'm seeing blood that looks oh so familiar.
-
And my mind starts to get away from me.
-
And friend, the same faith that you had at the breakthrough, you're gonna need in the next period.
-
And the one after that, and the one after that, the healing is still being worked.
-
The physical thing changed, but now I'm in a healthy amount of suffering.
-
Now I gotta take faith and apply it to my emotions, and I gotta apply it to my mind.
-
I gotta apply it to everything that I do.
-
Um, healing from the past does not exempt me from all future pain.
-
Just because I've been healed from the past doesn't mean that I'm healed from all future pain, even as it relates to the issues where I've been hurt, even as it relates to the issues where I've been damaged or I've had the 12 years, whatever, whatever that means for you.
-
So let's think about this.
-
What would this be like in our lives, okay, beyond the issue of blood?
-
What would this represent?
-
This could represent this could represent a relationship.
-
This could represent a um a dream that died, right?
-
An ambition that you had that was that that was there was suffering in it, that you were uh going for it, and then there was a failure.
-
Maybe you failed in some way, maybe it wasn't like a big moral failure.
-
You just took a big swing, it didn't work out, there it is, and it's it's there.
-
Forgetting what is behind.
-
Now, instead of every opportunity that feels anything like that, I just go, it must be that, I press toward.
-
I I walk in faith.
-
Um, maybe it is something moral.
-
Maybe there was a sin or something that you you did where you violated your own conscience, you did things that that weren't right, and it's there, and it keeps wanting to jump in your future every time you have temptation, every time you have a moment of weakness, every time you have some kind of relapse, or you do something that that that you shouldn't do, that you go, there I am again.
-
There I am again.
-
It's only a matter of time before I fail.
-
Uh, instead of understanding that you know what, just because I feel what I used to feel doesn't mean I am who I used to be or I am where I used to be.
-
It's different.
-
It's different.
-
I want you to think of, I want you to think of the concept of taking thoughts captive.
-
Because let's think about this woman.
-
Think about this woman.
-
12 years of constant bleeding.
-
12 years of constant bleeding.
-
Your suffering's gone.
-
Jesus doesn't say, your suffering's gone.
-
And make sure you're emotionally ready for your next period.
-
He doesn't say that, he just walks on.
-
And yet we know that next month the bleeding starts.
-
And now she's got to start thinking about it.
-
And now she's got that feeling and that thought, here we go again.
-
What this tends to do, and we've talked about this before, what the enemy loves to do in our lives is to take a micro truth and turn it into a macro lie.
-
So the micro truth might be you didn't do very good in school.
-
The macro lie is you're dumb.
-
No?
-
You didn't you didn't thrive in that context.
-
It doesn't mean you're dumb, you have a native genius.
-
Hey, everybody who I've dated, everybody who I've been married cheats on me.
-
That might be true.
-
That's a micro truth.
-
The macro lie is you're not worth being faithful to.
-
That's a macro lie that the enemy gives you inside of a micro truth.
-
What's the micro truth of this woman?
-
She's bleeding again.
-
I'm bleeding again.
-
And guess what?
-
Guess what?
-
According to the law, when she was bleeding again, she had to isolate.
-
So now I can't go to the synagogue for six days.
-
Now I can't go sit on my friend's couch.
-
Now I can't go to work.
-
Now I can't go re-enter society.
-
Now I can't do this.
-
So she now has to do six days of what she used to do 12 years of.
-
And isn't it amazing?
-
Although you had the grit to fight through 12 years, when you get a bit of relief and then you get some blood, that there's something in you that goes, I'm out, I'm done, I've got nothing left in me.
-
I'm burnt out, I'm fried, I'm frazzled, I'm quitting, I'm I'm finished to lose all hope altogether.
-
Because the feeling is familiar, and the feeling will tell you the macro lie that it's now back to 12 years, and you're gonna just bleed the rest of you.
-
All your life is gonna be is death, no new opportunities, nothing but death.
-
And that's a lie.
-
So what do you do?
-
That's a thought that turns into a feeling.
-
It's a thought that turns into a feeling, and we are so easily duped by these thoughts and feelings that take us right back to the think this is this, this is this.
-
No, it's not.
-
This is not that.
-
Yeah, there's blood, but it's not that, it's different.
-
So, what if instead of buying that and allowing it to cause us to waves of discouragement and actually cascading doubt around was I even healed at all, that we do it different?
-
What if we think different?
-
What if when I bleed in my healthy cycle, when I bleed, instead of assuming and allowing the thought and the feeling to make me afraid that I'm back to 12 years, that I actually go back to the place, maybe physically, maybe mentally, where I intersected with Jesus.
-
And I hear him call me daughter again.
-
And I come back and I think about how it felt to touch the hem of his garment.
-
I think about what I was wearing that day that I put on to mask my issue to fight through that crowd.
-
I think about how hard it was to weave my way through to get to him.
-
I think about that moment and the healing and the transformation, and I think about the breakthrough.
-
And I think about that, and I come back and go, no, no, no, no, no.
-
I thank God for that.
-
Now it creates a gratitude and an optimism, and I go back there.
-
I go back there to go, this isn't the same.
-
You know, we let thoughts put us on trial, we need to start putting them on trial.
-
The thought puts you on trial.
-
No, no, you get on the witness stand.
-
And by the way, when I get done with you, I'm gonna walk out and let Jesus cross-examine you for a little bit.
-
Because sometimes if it's just me and I'm putting the thought on the witness stand, I run out of stuff and I go, yeah, it probably is gonna be that.
-
I need to get out and let Jesus come in and start cross-examining my thought and giving me a new vision and reminding me of what he did and who he is and what the combination of his power and my faith, what we're capable of.
-
So, so take go back to the moment.
-
Go back to the moment.
-
Don't let doubt cascade.
-
The second thing is this.
-
Second thing is this.
-
What if we, instead of going, oh, it's just the same, what if we take a moment to actually go back and chart the progress?
-
To chart the progress.
-
Yeah, there was a relapse, yeah, there was a fallback, yeah, there's a familiar feeling, but just because I feel something I used to feel doesn't mean I am who I used to be or I am where I used to be.
-
So to step back and go, hold on a second, hold on a second.
-
Yeah, this fight feels familiar.
-
Yeah, this pain feels familiar.
-
Yeah, I had a visceral reaction that reminds me of 12 years.
-
But before I just let my thoughts and feelings get away from me, I'm gonna stop and I'm actually gonna go, what is different?
-
I know what's the same about this and this.
-
I know what's the same.
-
What's different?
-
What's different?
-
What's different?
-
What's different about me?
-
What's different about how I think?
-
What's different about who I'm with?
-
What's different in my life than was before?
-
So that I don't just allow my issue to turn into another issue.
-
It would have been very easy.
-
I would say, maybe likely, somebody who goes through 12 years of this, for this to find its way into your future.
-
And Jesus doesn't just heal a woman physically, he wants to make sure she knows the power that's in her.
-
Because yeah, her suffering was over in a sense, but in some ways, new suffering was going to begin very, very, very, very soon in her heart, mind, strength, neighbor, all of it.
-
And friend, I gotta tell you, the same power and the same faith that shows up in intersecting moments with Jesus and things that happen in a lightning type of moment, in a powerful moment, in a revelation moment, that's great.
-
But that same power is there for you when your first period hits in a month and you start feeling triggered again.
-
When you're confused in the next relationship, is this what is wisdom and what is PTSD?
-
When I start to see familiarity between the one I'm with now and the one that left me, what is wisdom in noticing a pattern and what is just me when I see a little blood and I don't even know what healthy suffering looks like.
-
Lord, show me.
-
Come in, cross-examine my thought.
-
Help me see clearly.
-
Because it's an improper expectation for me to think I'm never gonna bleed again, I'm never gonna cycle again.
-
But it's not God's will that you would stay stuck in death all your life.
-
There's a healthy amount of death, there's a healthy amount of blood, and there's a healthy amount of new opportunity and new life.
-
And this is the journey that we take with Jesus.
-
You see, this woman had her life interrupted, and she had it interrupted twice.
-
She had it interrupted the first time when the issue began and created a lot of complication and a lot of isolation, and she got good at being an outcast.
-
But the second interruption, the one she had been praying for, the one she had been paying for, the one she had been trying to get was healing.
-
And the reality is healing in its own way was an interruption.
-
It was an interruption to what had been normal for her, and she had to decide in that moment.
-
I had enough faith to get me to hear what I am gonna do with my faith next when the blood comes back, when the pain comes back, when there's a challenge in front of me, and my life's now been interrupted with health.
-
Sounds good on paper, but when you go from 12 years of something to health, there's an adjustment and there's dimensions of healing that need to happen.
-
So Jesus left her with don't undersell your faith, it's a big deal, and you're gonna need it because you're not done healing.
-
So today I want to give you an opportunity, whatever has brought you in here today.
-
I want you to think through what does this represent for you?
-
What is this 12 years of 12 years of bleeding, 12 years of of issue, and to think about what happens from here?
-
Jesus shows up in your life and he takes away your suffering and he gives you, you feel that new life coming to you, new hope, new opportunity.
-
But maybe today for you it's to reset your expectation that you're not exempt from all future pain, that there is a healthy amount of blood and and and grief that happens in a healthy life, and to embrace that and to not allow yourself to be triggered back to your past.
-
And to make a decision today, instead of going from issue to issue and stacking issues, I'm gonna start stacking healings.
-
I'm gonna stack healings, I'm gonna let this healing, okay, in my relationship with God, or this healing in my relationship with my family, or relationship with a friend, I'm gonna let this healing now spill into this and this and this and this.
-
And today, I maybe God brought you here just to remind you that just because you're experiencing a feeling that's familiar doesn't mean that you are where you used to be or you are who you used to be.
-
Maybe today is about cross examining the thought and letting Jesus cross examine the thought and getting your bearings of where you are and not just what's the same, but what's different.
-
God's brought you a long way, and He's gonna take you a lot further.
-
But you are not a passive character, you're an active participant.
