ReCALIBRATE | Live on Purpose

Well, we've been uh in this series called Recalibrate, and uh thank you for following along with that.

I hope it's been encouraging for you.

We're taking uh a few weeks and we're going through the book of Philippians.

And one of the few we've we've had a lot of context around this book.

We've we've learned that Paul is writing this book, this book that is incredibly encouraging, that is honestly called a book.

I mean, it's called the Book of Joy in the New Testament.

And and when you learn that Paul writes this from prison, he's wrongfully imprisoned, and yet he's writing such an incredibly encouraging letter to the church, and honestly, the church is, it's it's it's humbling to know to hear that from somebody in that sort of context, in that sort of place.

That's called the moral high ground.

You know, when somebody's in that situation and they're telling you about how to face adversity with joy, you just go, okay, maybe they know what they're talking about.

You know what I'm saying?

You're just like, okay, maybe what I'm going through ain't that bad.

Like that, okay, I'm gonna listen to Paul.

And so that's what we've been doing.

We've been going through this.

And so it's a letter written to the church of Philippi, but uh, but it's in our Bible.

And so the way we read that, and this is the way we because the Bible is our final authority, we go, it's not just the letter written to the church in Philippi, it's also written to the Freedom Church in Williston, North Dakota.

And so we're gonna we're gonna read it that way.

And so we've been through chapter one, and this morning we're gonna go through chapter two.

We're gonna get through the first part of Philippians chapter two.

And so if you got your Bibles, you can open those up, or you can follow along on the screen behind me.

And I think the best way to do this this morning, I'm just gonna read it.

And we'll read all 11 verses to you, and then uh and then we're gonna go from go from there.

Sound good?

Okay, let's read this chapter two, verse one.

Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.

Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interest of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.

By the way, these next few verses I'm gonna read, many scholars, many people, including myself, consider this the one of the most some of the most profound verses in the entire Bible, at least, especially the New Testament.

This is unbelievable, these next few verses.

This is Jesus, the mindset of Jesus Christ, who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.

Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.

Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

I think we we say this a lot, context is king.

In fact, if you want to, oftentimes scripture doesn't hit us the way it should because we don't we're not really understanding the context in which it's written.

And when you can understand who and where and how and some of the circumstances around it, there's just a there's just a punch to it.

I think one of the things that you need to understand is you need to understand part of Paul's story to really catch some of the weight that we just read.

You know, Paul wasn't always Paul the apostle.

He used to be known, he's got another name, he has two names in the Bible, Paul and Saul.

No, his name did not change because he got saved and Jesus changed his name.

That's not what he had a his name was Saul.

That's a that's a if you're a Bible nerd, the rest of you don't care.

This is for the Bible nerds.

Saul is a Hebrew Semitic name, okay?

So he went by Saul.

A lot of his Jewish friends would have known him as Saul.

Paul is a Greco-Roman name.

His name in the Bible shifts.

We see him referred to Paul when his ministry shifts from from Israelite, from Hebrews to Gentiles.

He goes by his Greco-Roman name.

Anyway, there you go.

That's just a little fun fact for you, okay?

So if you don't care, that's fine.

Moving on.

All right, here we go.

So he was not always known as Paul the Apostle.

He used to be known as Saul, the persecutor of the church.

He wasn't always he wasn't always on team Jesus.

In fact, if you go back and you read it, we know for a fact that he was at the very least complicit in the first martyr's death.

His name was Stephen.

He was at least complicit.

We have every reason to believe he was complicit in many other killings, most likely, at the very least, beatings and false imprisonments.

This is this is Saul, this is Paul, this is Paul the persecutor of the church.

And some of you know the story.

You go to Acts chapter 9, he has this moment where he's going down the Damascus Road, Jesus meets him, bright light, boom, knocks him to the ground.

Acts 9 · chapter mention

He's blind.

Paul, why are you persecuting me?

What in the world?

Who are you?

I'm Jesus.

He's like, oh my goodness, I missed him.

The king of the universe was there the whole time, and he missed him.

And he realizes, oh my goodness, I'm on the wrong team.

So he gets on Team Jesus.

And Paul, Paul's type A.

Paul's a type A personality.

Paul's the kind of guy you want on your basketball team.

Come on, you want him on your team.

Yeah, because Paul's the kind of guy, he's a winner.

You tell him what the goal line is, you tell him what the finish line is.

Paul goes and he gets it.

So Paul's like, I'm on Team Jesus now.

So he goes in there and he gets a sight back, and there's a whole story around that.

And so he wants to gather with the church.

He's ready to gather, he's ready to preach.

He's he's fired up, he's been born again.

He's a Jesus follower now.

I don't know about you, but when I hear Saul, the persecutor of the church, wants to come and hang out with us, I think I'm just gonna skip church that weekend.

How about you?

I think, I think I'm gonna go into a new church.

Can we get a can you like pay me where Paul is where he's gonna be?

Because I'm gonna go somewhere else.

Like it's just like I don't know if I believe.

I don't know if I believe him yet, right?

Understandably so.

Understandably so.

And then and then somebody else shows up on the scene.

A guy named Barnabas shows up.

Barnabas shows up.

Barnabas, Barnabas sees something in him that nobody else saw.

He sees something.

He comes along and he begins to advocate.

He advocates for Saul.

He he becomes uh the champion.

He said he sees something that nobody else saw.

I I have to believe, and the Bible doesn't say, but this is just this is Jason right here.

This is what I see.

I have to believe that that Saul also, not only was he, there's suspicion surrounding him, I have to believe he carried a level of guilt at the same time.

We see that in his writings.

He says, I'm chief of sinners.

Chief of sinners.

I have to believe that not only did when the suspicion came and it was heavy, I not only I imagine he carried a level of guilt at the same time, because after all, he was the persecutor of the church.

There's no way of denying that.

And yet here comes Barnabas, and Barnabas advocates for Barnabas sees something in him.

He pulls something out.

Today, here's what I'm talking to you about today.

I'm talking about live on purpose.

Living on purpose.

How do I live on purpose?

How do I live in a way where it's purposeful, it's kingdom-oriented, I'm partnered with Jesus and I'm building his kingdom.

How do I do that?

Some of you have a false idea.

You think in order to do that, you need a platform.

Some of you think that you need your social media followers to be at a certain level.

You think that you need to use your voice and preach the gospel and teach all the time.

You think that's the only avenue to make a difference in the kingdom of God.

And I'm here to tell you that's not actually true.

For some of us, that's our calling, but not for all of us.

Did you know that you can be just like Barnabas?

You can be an advocate for somebody else.

How many would say, I know there's many of you in here, you had somebody in your life, maybe it was a parent, maybe it was a coach, maybe it was a teacher who came alongside of you.

Come on, I'd like to see some hands who said, I see something in you.

Nobody else, when nobody else did, somebody goes, I see something in you.

What?

I mean, listen, this isn't even a Bible, this isn't just Bible knowledge, this isn't just Bible truth.

Even psychology shows this and proves this out.

To have one person in your life who believes the best in you can make all the difference in the world.

Look what look at the opening line.

We just read it.

He says, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, did you know Barnabas' name means the son of encouragement?

I don't think any of this is an accident, by the way.

His name means son of encouragement.

Barnabas is living his life on purpose.

He had no idea that this Paul Saul individual would write the majority of the New Testament.

He had no idea who he would become.

He just saw something and he advocated.

He was on his team.

He saw something.

He followed Jesus in a way even when it didn't make sense.

And I'm just telling you, you can do that anywhere.

That's living on purpose.

You can do that.

You don't you don't have to have this in order to live on purpose.

You can advocate and champion for the people around you when nobody else sees the best in them.

I don't care if you're fixing cars, pushing paper in an office.

I don't care if you're on a rig somewhere.

I don't care if you drive a truck.

I don't care.

That's not actually the most important thing about your life.

The most important thing is you can actually be like Jesus and live on purpose regardless of the context in which you find yourself.

By the way, this is doesn't even this includes your age.

I don't care.

I don't care if you're in fifth grade.

I don't care if you're in your 70s and your 80s.

You can live on purpose.

You can do this.

How do we do that?

It doesn't happen on accident.

I'll just tell you that right now.

You gotta be on purpose, it's gonna it's gonna have to be on purpose.

I'm gonna give you four things.

I don't have a ton of time.

Well, let's see if we can do it.

We got 16 minutes.

Let's see if we can address all four.

That's four minutes apiece.

All right, that in theory that should work, right?

We'll see.

Okay.

All right, here we go.

We're gonna live on purpose.

There's four things we're gonna have to address, okay?

I'm gonna tell you all the four.

Are you ready?

You're gonna have to address your heart, your hands, your head, and your hope.

Here's the first one.

We got to address your heart.

We see this.

We just read this.

I'm pulling this out of what we just read.

If we're gonna live on purpose, your heart.

Look at verse one.

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, by the way, maybe you didn't have that person in your life.

Maybe you didn't have the parent like you should have, the coach like you should have, the teacher like you should have.

If you go, I didn't have anybody.

Let me tell you something.

When you're united with Christ, he can be that for you.

He gets he sends you his Holy Spirit.

Did you know part of his name means he is the advocate?

He's the one that wants to champion you for you.

Like he can do that.

Hey, you can do it.

You don't even need a person.

You can do that in, you can have that in Jesus.

He says, any encouragement united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the spirit, any tenderness and compassion.

I love that word compassion.

Because it's one of the first words God uses to describe himself, full of compassion.

Compassion.

Compassion.

Compassion isn't a head thing.

You don't just decide to have compassion for somebody.

It doesn't work that way.

You you you that's a heart thing.

That comes out of your soul level.

Did you know?

If you're in Christ and you see people who are experiencing hardship, you will experience compassion.

It's just part of it.

The Joel says that he takes your heart of stone, your hard heart, and he replaces it with a heart of flesh, a soft heart, something that's malleable, something that's sensitive, something that can actually hear and receive from Jesus.

Now, there might be a couple of some of you like, well, I don't really, that's not really my thing.

Listen, compassion is not a personality trait.

I think some of us think that we're like, well, that's really not my personality type.

I'm not much of an encourager.

That's not really my wife, my friend.

No, no, no, no.

That's not a personality thing.

That's just called living on purpose, regardless of your personality.

So some of you go, well, I think, you know, well, I don't I don't have any compassion for people.

You know, we come on, we've all, I'm sure we've all had seasons like that.

Some of us are like, I've never had compassion.

Let me tell you right now, I'm gonna give you two reasons why you might not have compassion for people.

One, you're just not in Christ.

I'm just just tell it like it is.

I'm just telling you, Jesus, only Jesus, you can't change your heart.

We live in an era where we think we have full control over ourselves.

We can do it.

No, you know you don't.

You can't change your heart.

You can't only Jesus can change your heart.

If you lack compassion, there's a good chance you may need to reconsider is my life actually surrendered to the Lord Jesus?

Is he actually Lord of my life?

Or is church just the fun thing that I do on weekends so I can have friends and because good people do this?

Or is my life surrender to him?

I mean, I'm just saying, here's the second reason you go, well, I'm in Christ, and I still don't have a lot of compassion.

Here's the second reason: Jesus softens your heart.

You and I, we can harden our hearts.

How do we do that?

I always think of the Grinch.

Well, the Grinch Christmas movie, I think that's what it's called.

I don't even know what's called, the Jim Carrey one.

Anyway, you know what I'm talking about?

I think it's hilarious.

He has that when his heart comes, he's just like, oh, he's like, what is this?

It's like, it's a heart, man.

That's how you're right, it's like it's like the Grinch got born again.

That's what that's what that scene is right there.

So you're like, you get born again, you got Jesus in your heart, and then you got a little glimmer of light, you're like, oh my goodness, what is it?

It's called compassion.

It's like breaking through just a little bit.

And you have a choice in that moment.

Do I have compassion toward other people, or is it gonna make me look weak?

I'm unfamiliar with it.

I never saw my dad do that.

My grandpa never did that.

That's not what it looks like to be a man.

So we just sort of shut it down.

You shut it down long enough, you'll harden your heart.

Now I got good news for you.

You you you can harden your heart.

You can you can you can stop hardening your heart.

You can you can repent and you can you can invite Jesus to begin to soften your heart.

And you, when you have those moments, you can lean into them.

Okay, your your heart.

Here's the next one: your hands, your hands.

Verse three, do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, rather in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interest.

Look at the key words.

Look at what we're reading, not to your own interest, but each of you to the interest of others.

Skip down to verse six.

Who's talking about Jesus?

He's being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.

There's key words here.

His own advantage.

Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, a servant, and being made in human likeness.

You get around in some Christian leadership circles, and people love to talk about servant leadership.

Oh man, I'm a servant leader.

I know that that's great.

I I get it.

I understand where that comes from.

I'm not like opposed to that.

Servant leader.

I love when people they say it like it's something profound, like when we never heard that before.

It's just like, oh, I want to talk to you about servant leadership.

And it's like, oh, that's right, yeah, but that's great.

I love that.

I'm a servant leader.

I'm a servant leader.

I love that.

Yeah, I absolutely that's that's how I like to model.

Do you know how to test whether or not you're really a servant like Jesus?

Because we like to think that we are.

Let me tell you, because there's a real test.

This is real.

This is how you test it.

This is how you know whether you're actually a servant like Jesus.

Ready?

How do you respond when somebody actually treats you like a servant?

Whoa, how dare you! Who do you think you are?

Oh, well, see, we just revealed something.

You see that?

Look at the words to your own advantage, to the interest of others.

You know, we have to admit that the most of what we do is to build our kingdom.

And I'm not saying I'm opposed to that.

I most of what we do, most of what we put our hands to and our effort to are for our own interest.

We build our own kingdom.

Uh most of what we do, I'm talking about our work and our careers, most of the things that we're doing.

There's a contractual agreement for transaction to happen.

I do this in exchange for something.

By the way, we're not opposed to that.

I hope you win in your market in the marketplace.

I hope you win in your jobs.

I hope your prosperity raises the prosperity of everybody around you.

I'm not opposed to any of that.

Like, let's go.

I want you to win in your life.

But I think we have to acknowledge that most of what we do is for our own interests.

We hope other people win around us, but it builds our own kingdom.

There's very few things that we do that are genuinely selfless and don't guarantee some transaction on the other side of it.

By the way, you need to know this.

This is why we have a serve team in our church.

You're like, well, that's the church game that everybody plays.

Gotta have your volunteers, and then next he's gonna talk about giving, and then we all attend, and it's the program of church that we all got on as a robot.

We all gonna go through it.

No, no, no, no.

I'm just telling you right now, it's way it's way deeper than that.

It's way bigger than that.

There's very few places that you will go where you have an opportunity to put your hands to work after and focus on the interests of other people.

I look around, there's many of you here.

Your life has changed here.

You got born again here.

You met Jesus in this place.

Jesus transformed your life in this place.

I want to tell you, that's not by accident.

That's because somebody else, and not just me, and not just Bethany, there are other people in here.

They decided to be selfless, to look to the advantage of you, to look to your advantage, to look out for your good.

I'm just telling you, I'm gonna tell you, you can't display dismiss this.

I look in the back over there and I see Micah over here in the back.

You may not know Micah.

Micah, I remember him 15, 16 years old, showing up at my house when we only had like five students showing up to church.

And he's in the back of my living room.

We're like going through videos and it was weird and it was awkward, and he still kept coming.

Here he is, he's 20.

I think you're 20 now.

He's sitting there back there running production.

Just he's a volunteer, he's doing this.

Why?

And he's told me before, his life has changed here.

I'm just telling you.

I came here this morning.

I got here early this morning, and I walked through, not as early as some people, because we got some incredible serve team members here.

And I walk through the doors back here, and I walk back there, and I see my friend Taryn.

Taryn's on our hospitality team, and she's back there on all fours, and she's over there organizing all the food, and I had to do a double take because I look down and I see her little baby Revy strapped to her chest right there, and she's just on all fours.

By the way, that baby's teething right now on top of that, and she's back there just getting after it, organizing it for who?

Herself?

No, for other people.

There's no what's the transaction?

There isn't one.

That's how you do it.

That's what it looks like.

Let me tell you the irony of all ironies.

Ready?

There is absolutely not your time, your your towns, your treasure, there's absolutely nothing that you can give to God that he doesn't already have.

Nothing.

So why is he asking this from me?

Because God can't be anything less than who he is.

And when you get close to him, he owns there's only one way that things flow.

And that's out of him and to you.

He's a giving God, he's a blessing God.

He actually asks these things from you because he actually wants more for you.

That's the irony of all.

No, no, no, I gotta protect my time.

I gotta protect my calendar.

I gotta protect my energy.

I gotta protect my talent.

I gotta protect my money.

Why?

Oh no, he's going, no, no, no, no, hold on a second.

You get close to me, you get close to me, this is that.

You think that you're you think that you're giving up in order to move closer to me and other people.

You got I got news for you.

He goes, it's actually, I actually have way more for you than you ever thought.

The exchange that you'll end up receiving isn't even fair.

That's right.

It's not proportionate.

Very true.

I hope you can get a hold of that.

We need to recalibrate our hearts.

We need to recalibrate what we're doing with our hands.

All right, here's the next one: our mind, our head.

Heart.

This is you know you're winning as a pastor when all your words begin with the same letter.

That's a win right there.

Heart, hands, head, hope.

Woo! I was on fire this week.

Okay, here we go.

Head, verse three or two, here it is.

Uh, make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Skip down to verse five.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.

This is such a popular theme throughout scripture, throughout the New Testament.

Mind, focus your mind, renew your mind, have the mind of Christ, guard your mind, think about these things.

I'm just telling you that what you do, the things you think about, these this is incredibly important.

You need to recalibrate where your thoughts go.

I'm gonna give you quick three things you need to recalibrate on.

What are your thoughts?

What do you think about God?

This is a big one.

What are your thoughts?

Some people say it's the most important thing about you.

Why?

Why would it be the most important thing about what your thoughts are about God?

Because whatever you think about God is gonna determine how you approach God.

If you think God's like your earthly father and you're just like, I don't really know what side of the bed he woke up on today, I don't know if he's in a good mood, bad new mood, you know, maybe he'll answer my prayers, maybe he won't.

God's not like that.

God's consistent, he's the same.

That's what we read today, that's what we sang today.

Like he's the same, he doesn't change.

You can count on him.

And if you don't know that about God, it'll affect your life.

I can hear it in your prayers.

Our prayers reveal our reveal us, our prayers reveal us.

What we think, if you think God is distant and kind of wishy-washy, oh, his ways are above ours, his thoughts are above, that's true.

His will, nobody can know he's so mysterious.

No, no, no, no.

We know part of his will.

He's revealed part of his will.

We know he already told us that death and stealing and destruction are not his tools.

He already let us know that's the tools of the enemy.

His ways are not so mysterious that we don't know some of his ways.

He's told us some of them, just not all of them.

And I'm just telling you, there's a theology out there that says, well, they died a horrific death.

Maybe that was God's will.

No, it wasn't.

God's not the killer.

I'm just gonna tell you right now, we don't have to get into theodicy in the depths of the origins of evil, but I'm gonna tell you right now, when God's got way better tools in his toolbox than that.

Way better.

What do you think about God?

I'm gonna tell you right now, I'm gonna tell you what I think about God, what I know about God.

I know God is a God who can do anything.

I know God is God, He's a God who's for you.

I know He's a God who wants to bless you.

I know He's a God who's not who's not against you, not against me.

That's who God is.

I believe God can do anything.

Guess what?

He shows up in my prayer life.

And I'm gonna tell you, who do you want praying for you?

Who do you want praying for?

You want somebody who's got that kind of faith.

I'm just telling you what you think about God.

Who do you think about others is the second one.

What do you think about others?

You would you go and drop$20,000 on a piece of junk?

I don't know what it is.

Would you pay that kind of money for something that is not valuable?

Accidentally, though, right?

Not on purpose.

Yeah, you know, like you didn't know it was junk, you just found out later, right?

Come on, everybody's got a story like that.

You don't do that on purpose.

Why?

Because if you're gonna dole out that kind of money, you want to do it for someone that's valuable.

I got news for you.

There is no higher price to be paid than the Lord Jesus Christ laying his life down for you.

Do you know what that means?

It means you're valuable, it means others are valuable.

Some of us need a revelation.

And I'm not talking about your friends that you love and your family that you love, your coworkers you love.

I'm talking about your enemies.

I'm talking about the people that are opposed to you.

I'm talking about the people that you would go, if we didn't have them around, our country would just be way better off.

I'm talking about those people.

You need a revelation about how God sees other people.

They're valuable.

Jesus didn't just die for you, he died for them.

We need to revel, here's the th, here's the third one.

You know, you need to recalibrate your thoughts about God, your thoughts about others, and your thoughts about yourself.

Yourself.

I want to be a little vulnerable with you.

I've already I've told you my medical stuff.

I mean, my goodness, what if I feel like we really know each other now, so I might as well tell you more here, okay?

I I had this happen in the in the recent years.

Um, my my personality type.

I'm not I'm not one to talk about, oh god, neck, bro.

I don't, that's not me.

I don't talk about stuff like that.

I'm the kind of guy, like I got stuff going on.

I don't take medicine typically.

I'm just like, I get up and it's just like, let's just tackle the day.

That's my and I know I can see some of y'all are smiling at here.

You're just like that.

You're just like, I just gonna go on with it.

Aches, pains, I'm a little bit of sickness, no big deal.

You just kind of move on with your life.

Come on, you I can see it, you you know what I'm talking about.

That's how I've lived a lot of my life.

And and I haven't really taken a lot of time to address my own personal health a lot over the years.

And I had an individual, you know, imagine this.

I didn't figure this out on my own.

This is a word for somebody.

I didn't see it myself.

This is called a blind spot.

I had to have somebody else outside of me point this out to me.

And they looked at me and they said, Jason, could it be, could it be that you're like that because you don't think you're valuable enough to give that sort of attention to?

And I was like, get thee behind me, Satan.

That's what that was like, that was my first.

I was like, yeah, get out of here.

You know, like, what are you talking about?

He's like, uh like I don't know about I don't know about that.

And then and I actually made a joke just like that.

I actually did that's it, really did.

I made a joke to him.

And he goes, and you've made a habit of using humor to hide behind it to mask it at the same time.

I was like, you can leave now.

Like, why goodness, man?

You know, right there.

Like, I gotta read a guy's mail like that, you know.

And um, and he was right.

He was right.

And it's not that you gotta think about yourself all the time, you gotta go, I'm amazing.

You gotta like this take on this boastful posture that elevates yourself because you think you're better.

That's not what we're talking about.

We're just talking about, you know, humility is thinking about yourself less often, but it's definitely not going, you know what, I'm just a worm, I'm nothing, I'm just nobody before God.

I can't believe you would save somebody like yes, you know what?

I can't believe you would save a sinner like me, but I'm not that anymore.

Listen, he says you're the righteousness of Christ Jesus.

He says that in him, he's gonna raise you up with them.

I'm just telling you right now, like you, you, you need to elevate yourself.

Some of you, you believe lies from your childhood, you believe lies from long ago, you have a bad self-perception.

If you have a bad self-perception, you will not love other people well.

You need to have an understanding of who you are in Christ.

God loves you, God cares for you, God's for you, he's not against you, he wants what's best for you.

He believe it or not, he likes you, he wants to be with you, he wants you to know him better.

He knows you inside and out.

He knows the darkest parts of your life, he knows the highest and the best parts of your life, and he loves you anyway.

That's what he thinks.

You gotta recalibrate that.

All right, here's the last one.

Okay.

When it comes to your mind, you gotta recalibrate what you think about God, others, yourself.

Okay, we're talking about our heart, our hands, our head, and the last one is our hope.

Is the last one.

Let's read this verse 9.

Therefore, God exalted him, talking about Jesus, to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Hope.

So you need to recalibrate your idea of hope.

We've talked about this, we talked about this in recent weeks.

Paul seems to continually go back to this idea of hope.

What is that?

Hope.

You're gonna live on purpose, you're gonna be like a Barnabas, you're gonna be like a Paul who from prison has now taken on, taken on a role of advocating and championing the cause of other people, even at the lowest, even in jail.

That's living on purpose, and you can live on purpose, but you're not gonna live on purpose if you don't recalibrate hope in your life.

Our hope is not in this right here.

Our hope is not that our circumstances will get better.

My hope isn't in that my back will start hurting, hurting, and my neck will stop hurting.

That hope isn't in that.

My hope isn't in whether this person lives or dies.

My hope is that one day on the other side of eternity, every tear will be wiped up.

There will be no pain.

Come on, yeah.

Some of y'all are getting a little older, and it's just like, imagine you're gonna wake up one day, no pain whatsoever.

It's gonna be a good day.

The one the loved ones you've lost.

I'm not negating the pain you've experienced and are experiencing.

I'm just saying we don't mourn like the unbeliever.

You will be reunited.

It's not over.

It's not over.

You can have hope.

You need to recalibrate your hope.

If you can do that, it'll change the way you encourage others and yourself.

My goodness, Paul says in 1 Corinthians, he says that the power that God used to raise Christ from the dead, he said he's gonna raise you and me with him at the same time.

He's gonna raise us with them.

It's an amazing thing.

It's an amazing thing.

Hope.

You need to raise the bar, recalibrate, get a hold of that.

Let's just pray.

Father, we need help with this.

Give us, I pray that you would give each of us revelation, drop it in our hearts right now.

To recalibrate, to begin to recalibrate our hearts, to begin to experience compassion for your people, the people you died for.

Help us to recalibrate our hands.

What we put our hands to.

That it wouldn't that our life wouldn't be marked by building our own kingdom, but we would be people who are passionate about building yours.

Help us to recalibrate our heads and our minds and what we're thinking about.

Give us revelation about just how good you are, church.

Even those of you that think you think you believe God's good, let me just tell you right now, however good you think he is, he's better.

He's better.

Help us to get a hold of that.

Help us to see others the way you see them.

Help us to see ourselves the way you see us.

And help us to recalibrate our hope.

Our hope is in you, Jesus.

It always has, in it's in you and it will be forever.
