Honour Up Down and Around

Thank you for listening to the Colonel Christians that our podcast.

Our desire is that today's method and more connected.

Moments today, I like to say you do make a difference.

We are so grateful to have uh so many beautiful mothers in our congregation today.

Um, and we I think we'd be amiss just to not recognize you.

If you're a mother, grandmother, stepmother, uh single mother, come stand up.

And so we just want to celebrate you today.

Stand up, tall, stand up.

Let's celebrate our mums today.

Oh wow.

It's so great to be in uh in the house there with uh so many.

You know, mums they bring the atmosphere, and uh they set the atmosphere, the tone in the home.

And we're just so grateful to have you in the house today.

Um Mother's Day uh started actually 103 years ago, and Mother's Day actually began.

A woman named Anna Garvis spearheaded the movement that brought about the current Mother's Day, and it became a proclamation in America that Mothers would be celebrated in America, but now it's recognized actually all over the world.

And what's interesting is that Anna, the one who started this Mother's Day, never married and was never a mother, but she had significant honor and a desire to honor her own mother that she actually announced she wanted this day to be a special day of recognition to moms.

So moms and kids all around, they can thank Anna.

And 103 years later, was we're still honoring moms today.

We love our moms.

You make a difference.

So let's give them another round.

I have uh a sample here of, you know that also Mother's Day is actually an example of uh a day when the largest number of cards are purchased second to Christmas.

Cards are purchased here, and 139 million cards will be purchased on Mother's Day.

And I just have a sample, Hunter.

If you could throw up, uh it's a little farther down the slides there, a sample of some of my favorite cards.

This is Mom, thanks for raising me.

That's a dad joke for moms, and then the other one is I'm irritable, exhausted, stressed out, I won't sugarcoat it.

You have kids.

We get it.

So we just love you guys, and or you women, uh, not guys, that's in a few months.

Uh, we love you and uh we're so grateful for you.

Today I'd like to share, um, continue sharing uh on what makes KCC operate and move at its best.

And I'm gonna start by just uh reading a portion of scripture from Mark chapter 6.

Uh and you can read along with me with the Bible in the sky if you want to follow on screen, or if you want to read in your own Bible.

It says this Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples.

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogues, and many who heard him were amazed.

They said, Where did this man get these things?

They asked.

What's this wisdom that's been given to him?

What are the remarkable miracles uh what are these remarkable miracles he's performing?

Isn't this the carpenter?

Isn't this Mary?

Her son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon, aren't his sisters here with us?

And they took offense at him.

And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his own hometown, among his relatives and in his own home.

And he could not do any miracles there except lay his hands on a few people who were sick and healed them.

And he was amazed at their lack of faith.

Would you just uh bow your heads and we're just gonna open this time today in prayer?

This message today.

Father, we thank you for your word.

We believe your word is holy, we believe that your word can transform lives.

Lord, your you one word from you can change our life, can change our family's life, can change generations' lives.

Father, today we just lean on your word.

We lean on the instruction in your word.

We we acknowledge today that we're gonna be better if we fall in line with it, if we trust it today.

So we open up our hearts to receive from you in the name of Jesus, and everyone said, Amen.

Amen.

We've been in a collection of talks for the last few weeks called At Our Best.

We've talked about the things that cause us to operate at our best.

And it's important to know what you actually value because what you value often dictates where you spend your resources, where you spend your time.

It indicates where your energy goes, it determines where your resources go.

We've been talking for the last number of weeks and highlighting these values of KCC.

The first being that Jesus is first.

It's all about his mission, it's all about his message.

What he says is important, what he does is important, Jesus needs to be first.

Secondly, people belong.

We believe that people are our privilege.

Look next to your neighbor and say, it's a privilege to be sitting next to you today.

It's a it's awesome to be beside you today.

We value you today.

Our privilege, they're our purpose, they're why we're here for people, and they're our passion.

We also believe in generosity.

Amen?

We believe in generous living and generous giving, generous in our lifestyle, generous with our resources.

We ask the Lord uh what we can do with our life to better influence the rest of the world.

We believe that we're spirit-led.

We believe that we need to look to the Holy Spirit to lead us, and we need to make the operation of the Holy Spirit in the world today a contemporary model.

And it should be contemporary, but it should be powerful.

You and I are walking around with dynamite inside of us because the Holy Spirit is with us today.

And so today we'd like to talk about honor.

It's super fitting that on Mother's Day today we can talk about this value of honor.

Honor is our privilege as well.

It's a privilege, it's our culture that we want to cultivate in KCC.

We believe KCC was built on a culture of honor, and we believe that KCC needs to remain cultivating that same spirit of honor.

We want to live in a in a life that is flowing with the miracles that God has for us, and it will only happen when we operate and we live with honor in our own hearts.

So we believe, and and uh I've I've heard this said and I believe it to be true.

We need to we need to honor up, we need to honor down, and we need to honor all around.

A lot of people just like to honor up.

But what happens when you're honoring up is it's it's about your own advantage.

How can I flatter?

How can I suck up a little bit to be able to advance my own life?

And a lot of people only look at honoring up, but we want to look at not only honoring up, we want to look about at honoring down, look at the next generation below us, look at those who are actually coming up, and I love seeing Brooklyn Hush singing up here, and I just want to honor her today for worshiping, exercising her gift and her talent.

We want to honor up, we want to honor down, we want to honor all around because we believe that when we live in a culture of honor, we're all going to be blessed.

We're all going to be blessed.

God has potential inside of each person that is here today.

There's a seed of potential.

Now, you can believe that God uh God has this incredible purpose for you in your life, but God doesn't create insignificant things.

God creates small things, but everything that God creates is significant.

And small things in God's hand are significant.

A seed is small, but that seed has significance inside of it.

That inside that seed is an orchard.

It may be small, but don't ever despise the small seed.

Each of us, we believe, has a seed inside of us.

Now, what will set that seed to life, I believe, is honor in the house.

When there is honor in the house, that seed can be placed in the soil and then tended and cared for and cultivated to be able to grow.

But without honor, that seed won't will not will not produce if it's dishonored in any way.

So let's look at what this word honor means.

Because looking at chapter 6 in Mark, we recognize that honor is important.

Jesus was amazed at their lack of faith.

He was amazed at their unbelief, and he couldn't do the things he wanted to do because there was a lack of honor.

So honor is important.

If you don't know how to honor, then you're missing out on what God has available for you.

So when we honor, we esteem highly.

We esteem highly, or another word means we put weight on.

Now, this now we're honoring mums.

It's probably not the message we want to say.

We want to put weight on you, moms.

You know, moms are like, no, this is not the message, okay?

I couldn't title it today, honor.

To, you know, never mind.

I'm not gonna go there.

But the idea of putting weight onto something is actually a biblical analogy.

It means when you payments were made in the uh in the biblical days, is when you were paying for something, it would indicate its value based on the weight of the coins that you were using to pay for an item.

And the as things were as as your coins were weighted, that was the value that they had.

So honor is adding weight, is adding value to someone, something, even God.

You're giving that individual value.

You're adding weight to that individual, you're putting weight upon them, and the moment you place value on something is the moment you care about it, is the moment then you can receive from it.

You cannot receive from that which you do not honor.

You cannot receive from that person who you do not value.

So when we look at our culture today, the culture of KCC, we're looking at becoming a place where each person is valuing each other.

Now, how do you do that?

You cannot receive from that which you do not honor.

And this is what happens in life, and I believe it's somewhat natural, but it's something that we need to resist, is that in life we start to become too familiar with people, and this is what Jesus was dealing with in Mark chapter 6 a spirit of familiarity.

And what will happen is even if you become familiar with people or or even God, you can stop the greatness that is on that person from impacting your own life.

Now, how many of you want to have an open door to heaven, an open window to heaven, then we honor God.

Honor must be our lifestyle.

If we want to have an open door to to God and and to others becoming great in our lives, then there needs to be honor towards one another.

This is what happened with Jesus in Mark chapter 6, is that he's in town, and at first everyone's going, Wow, that's amazing! Wow, you're incredible! How do you get to do such wonderful things?

And what ended up happening is that as soon as they were saying that, the next side of it was, oh, that's Jesus, the carpenter's son.

Doesn't he have a bunch of brothers, a few sisters?

And immediately they it shut down and it closed the door from God being able to do miracles in their midst.

A lack of honor because they became familiar with Jesus.

They had become too familiar to him, and now that spirit of familiarity had turned not from honor but to dishonor.

And the scripture warns us, the scripture says that, and Jesus actually warns us, he says, listen, a prophet is without honor in his own hometown.

In other words, the place where you have to be most careful is in your own home.

Kids, in your own home, do you honor your mother and father?

Husbands, do you honor your wife?

Do you honor the people that are sitting in your community in your church?

Is there that spirit of honor?

He wasn't ordinary.

Jesus wasn't ordinary, but they treated him as ordinary, and because of that, they could only experience a return of ordinary results.

If you want to experience a return of the extraordinary, you have to treat that person with extraordinary honor, extraordinary value, extraordinary weight.

Honor is a lifestyle.

Your blessing could be in this room today.

Your blessing could be in this room today, but you won't be able to receive it because of your familiarity.

Your blessing could be in worship today, but you may not experience it because it's just ordinary.

You don't experience it because it's just the ordinary.

But if you had someone come up on stage who's like, throw out a worship leader.

Carrie Joe, all of a sudden it's like, wow, this is amazing.

This is because you put weight on that individual, you will begin to experience the re the return of that weight.

Well, let me also tell you this that your blessing could be in this room this morning, and you will receive it because you carry a spirit of honor.

Your blessing could be with the person that you're sitting next to this morning.

Amen?

If the spirit of honor is there, the spirit of value is there, if the weight is placed on this individual, you may be able to receive what you need because of the value that you're carrying in your heart towards that individual.

So at KCC, we believe that everyone deserves honor.

We don't want to just be regular people or regular with people.

We believe we need to treat people extra regular.

We need to place extra value on you.

Extra love should go towards the per people in this place.

Where every person you connect with, there ought to be an honorable response towards them.

Where you value the barista, you value the person at the till, you value the people that are in our lives, the teacher, the spouse, you value them because we believe in valuing each other.

It is the key to unlocking the supernatural in your life.

I believe in the supernatural.

I want this church to believe in the supernatural, to unlock the supernatural, to unlock miracles in our church.

Honor needs to be resurrected, it needs to rise up.

That this is such an honoring place.

You walk in, there are hugs, there's value, there's people looking at ways they can serve each other, not just on Mother's Day, but every day.

Amen.

Honor is the key.

And so we do this by cultivating it every moment of our day with our gestures, with our language, with our service, with our time, with our love, with our physical attention, with our eye contact.

We're honoring each other.

Honor by nature restores people to their true calling.

My grandpa, it was such like so many lessons from a simple man.

His one prayer was that we wouldn't grow up to be as tall as he was.

He was only like this tall.

And his prayers, his prayers uh proved true.

But he had a way of living a lifestyle of honor.

And he brought it everywhere he went.

He'd go to a garage sale and he'd kind of play it down, he'd have two bits.

It's what he called a quarter, and he'd have two bits, and he'd buy this saw for two bits, or a knife, or something like that.

Then he would take it home and he'd place value on that knife or that saw.

He'd file that saw down.

Each tooth was filed down.

That when I inherited that saw, and I'm people are like, Yeah, bring out the skill saw.

I'm like, no, no, no, I'll bring out my grandpa's saw.

Right?

And I just pull out, I had to like, like, we had to clean his place.

There were like 12 saws.

Uh I took like six of them.

And that saw one glide apart across a uh a two by four, and it was like almost through, it would cut through like butter.

He brought value to items, he brought value to things, and it was an example of him actually valuing the things he valued were actually an example of how he valued everyone that he was with.

He valued his vehicles, his house, his tools.

He brought value to those things.

We need to, when we live our lives honorably, we're restoring people to their true calling.

We're helping them reach their true calling.

And I don't know what's exciting about being a pastor isn't actually the work.

It's what I get to see.

It's like, which is part of the work.

But it's not like I used to mow lawns for summers and 20.

Minutes, something that looked really ugly looked really nice and neat.

Now I work with people, and it's like 20 years later, you get to see something.

It's like, wow, that's awesome.

Finally, you came to your potential, right?

But I if it's everybody doing the job, then everyone, the work becomes exponential.

It becomes exponential.

I what's exciting is I don't know what's in you, but it's my joy to help you discover it.

It's my joy to help it elevate in you.

I don't know what's in Kyle, but I'm working at it, and what I'm seeing is exciting.

I don't know what's happening in people in this house.

Rich McClennan, awesome.

Teresa awesome.

And I love to see, I love to see what's coming out of Teresa in worship and in song.

And I love to see it.

We want to be a people of honor.

So people say this, well, Brody, what if people don't deserve honor?

And the answer is this: you don't have to, or you don't give people honor because they deserve honor.

You give people honor because you yourself are honorable.

I am a person who goes about depositing honor wherever I go.

I put value, I drop value everywhere I go.

I as best as I can, and I'm asking the Lord each day, how do I become a more honorable person to more and and and increase my opportunity to give honor, to bless, to uh to actually see the return of that honor.

So we live here and we believe the honor is the key to unlocking people's greatness in or unlocking greatness in people's lives.

So be careful because dishonor will disable your faith, but honor will enable your faith.

And we want to be people of honor.

So today, how do we honor our mums?

We honor them by hugging them affectionately.

Amen?

Amen.

I love my wife was away for a few days uh at a conference uh in the States, and she came home and she just was excited to wake up this morning because the kids were gonna give her a hug.

And I guys just don't quite get it, but you can honor your mom today by hugging her affectionately.

You can you can love your mother unconditionally.

Amen.

Whether they're young or they're older, you love them unconditionally.

Whether they have a lot to offer or little to offer, you love your mother unconditionally.

You understand her sympathetically, you listen to her attentively.

I love in 2 Kings chapter 4, uh, a man is out in the field with his son.

2 Kings 4 · chapter mention

As the story goes, and the son falls over, he goes, My head, my head, my head.

And the dad in the scripture just says, get up, go to your mother.

Ethan, as back, as far back as that was written, they still understood.

Man, like you could be bleeding out.

Go see your mom, she'll fix you up.

And the mom will be like, Okay, triage happens at that moment.

Dad, it's like you're in the way, the TV, you know, you're you're out of the way.

Help her cheerfully.

People know when you're there to actually help out out of coercion, but a way you can honor your mom is help her cheerfully.

I get to help fold laundry, I get to help wash dishes, I get to help be with you, I get to be there.

This is a cheerful way of giving yourself to another.

And number six, remember her gratefully.

Remember her gratefully, and lastly, remind her of how much she's needed and do it constantly.

I love you, I care for you, you're so awesome, you're great.

I haven't given that much eye contact to my mom here on the front row, but we we we we don't know where we would be without you.

And so we celebrate mums this morning.

Uh, I believe that a mom, one of the best ways we can, uh, the best gifts a mom can have is the gift of actually having children serving the Lord.

Best gift any of our us can have.

And a mom's love for her children, there's stories about this, but the power of prayer, and the power and the ability of a mother to actually continue to press in and pray.

And I love what Katie said on the video, and Brian said in the video about their mom, Linda, and how her prayers really reached out into the next generation, and she continued through prayer to honor.

And I do believe in the power of prayer, and today we have with us uh Sean Lalonde, Pastor Sean.

And before we close today, I'm just gonna invite him to come on up and uh if I could have a microphone.

And uh I've just uh we've talked about through Trisha, through your second your assistant, uh she said uh you had a few things you wanted to share today to the church.

And we just want to honor you and we want to honor Val and your family today.

So would you share?

Okay.

Uh I just wanted to uh talk about I'm gonna get emotional because I always do.

Um I'm gonna talk about my wife.

Um we've gone through a lot of stuff uh over the last six months, and uh I don't know how you women do it, but you have some kind of extra engine.

Some reserve, you have this reserve tank.

Guys don't have a reserve tank.

We s we like a clicker in the TV.

But uh you women have this reserve tank, and my wife has really um been amazing during all of this.

Uh I don't know if you know me, but I I've been sick.

I and uh and it's been really hard for our family, but um, I just want to just celebrate all you women here today and uh thank you.

Um you know a lot of you out here have have helped us out, a lot of you moms have helped us out as well.

And uh I just wanted to just uh bring a thankfulness today for for my wife and um all the women here.

So let's just give them a round of applause.

I I just want to take this opportunity as well just to thank everyone here for your prayers and support.

Uh I just want to just give a shout out to God and uh just for uh the little miracles.

You have to uh be looking, um, because life's hard, right, sometimes, and uh whether it's through you know sickness like I have or job or life or relationship with your spouse, but uh if you just take a moment and think and just watch God work the little miracles, yeah.

And and if you start celebrating the little ones in your life, especially if you're going through difficulty as a in a as a couple, if you could just look at the small things that God is doing, it it grows.

And and it and and when when Brody's talking about the Holy Spirit today, I'm just like so relieved that we we we are talking about the Holy Spirit.

If you if you've never experienced what it's like to have Christ in your life, it's it's it's amazing.

You just get this spark of the Holy Spirit, and I don't know.

Um so if you just build on that and and just watch God move, and I I could give you testimonies, and maybe someday I will.

But uh God has just totally blessed us every step of the way.

So thank you for your prayers.

We want you to know, Sean, we're believing for miracles, and we're gonna lift you up, we're gonna continue to place value on you and honor on you and wait on you and wait on the Lord and just continue to believe God for his miracle in your life and in your family's life.

And so I'd like to invite uh um Val to come up.

And you know what?

I think this would be fitting today.

I'd like some of the moms to come up and just to lay their hands on this on this couple, and I'm gonna ask my mom if she would just pray for them.

So if you're a mom in the house and you've got a weight on your heart to just lay hands on Sean and Val, could you come up and just surround them?

And I'm gonna invite my mom to come and just pray a prayer.

You've got the support of the body here.

God goes fine.

I'm gonna step out.

Father God, we come before you in the name of your Son Jesus.

And you love the world so much that you gave him that we could have salvation.

Amen, amen.

That we could have everything that Christ provided for us on the cross.

Yes, thank you, Lord.

Healing for our minds, healing for our bodies, healing for our emotions, provision for every need.

Father, we do love you with all our hearts today.

We humble ourselves before you this morning, Lord.

And we bring this couple before you, Val and Sean and their family.

And Father, we know that they've laid it all down for you.

And we lift them up to you, Father, and we ask for your divine intervention in their life, that there would be a healing dome put over them, that healing would flow through Sean's body, Lord, from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.

Through his veins, Lord, that the healing power of Jesus would flow through him, Father.

Trust is in you.

As we sang this morning, our confidence is in you, Lord.

We rest our entire weight upon you.

We trust you with all of our heart, Lord, and we will stand and continue with our confidence in you.

There's no one else we can turn to.

You are our God.

Amen.

And we thank you, Father, for everything that you've provided.

Yes, Lord.

We pray your blessing upon Sean and Val in Jesus' name, and we receive all that you have for them in the name of Jesus, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Amen.

Thank you, Jesus.

Would you just stretch your hands to them and just begin to pray for their family today?

Just begin to cover them.

Please, Father, the blood of Jesus around their home, around his body, in his blood.

Let's just stir up our hearts, stir up our faith today.

Just begin to throw weight, honor on the Lord.

Thank you, Lord.

You can heal, you can do all things.

Thank you, Jesus.

Thank you, Lord.

We trust in you, Lord, today.

We trust in you with all of our heart, with all of our mind, with all of our strength.

We lean on you, Lord, for our every need today.

Amen.

Let's give the Lord a round of applause, celebrate him for what he's done.
