  1. Hi and welcome to the Via Zion Sermon podcast.

  2. We are a local church based here in Chennai, India.

  3. We are so glad you are with us and hope that this will

  4. encourage, inspire and instill fresh faith in you.

  5. Our theme for the year 2024 is set apart and today on Good

  6. Friday we look at how the blood of Jesus has set us apart.

  7. As you listen in, would you ask God to teach you how to live

  8. with a better understanding of His blood, its power, and

  9. covering over your life? Hi church, what a amazing day it

  10. is to celebrate the goodness of God.

  11. We we look at Good Friday through the lens of Jesus and it

  12. changes everything because it truly is a Good Friday.

  13. We have a good Father who sent His perfect son who was a

  14. sacrifice for you and me. And the good news is that

  15. because of what Jesus did on that cross, you and I Can Walk

  16. and freedom and newness of life. I was reading this story this

  17. week and I thought I should share it with you.

  18. This person writes about how he had a herd of sheep, and one of

  19. his sheep one morning when he went to check on them, found

  20. that it's face was completely swollen and the sheep looked

  21. like it was in terrible pain. When he examined the sheep, he

  22. found that the sheep had been bitten by a rattlesnake, which

  23. was very common in that parts of the country.

  24. He was The shepherd was a bit worried for his sheep, but the

  25. sheep didn't look perturbed by it at all.

  26. The rattlesnake didn't know that the sheep's blood could actually

  27. handle its venom. So although the sheep, for

  28. better part of two days, was swollen up and in a lot of pain,

  29. it kept doing its usual things. It was wandering around.

  30. It was, you know, looking for pasture and doing all of the

  31. usual things. The truth is that apparently

  32. antidotes for snake venom are raised in sheep.

  33. The rattlesnake didn't know that, so this sheep was actually

  34. having blood that could override the venom of the rattlesnake.

  35. If you have been living fearful of the serpent or his bite, I

  36. want to remind you of this, that be sure that the lamb's blood

  37. flows in your vein veins. What was shed on that cross of

  38. Calvary now today flows in our veins.

  39. We don't have to live afraid anymore.

  40. When Jesus died on that cross, he took once and for all and

  41. paid the penalty for our sins. Today, because of that blood

  42. that runs through our veins that is washed over us, we can live

  43. free from the power of sin. And one day in eternity where we

  44. will live with the Father, with the Son, we will see that we

  45. will be free from the presence of sin as we get into today's

  46. Scripture. I was looking at the book of

  47. John, and I love this one passage where John the Baptist,

  48. when he sees his cousin Jesus walking in into the town that he

  49. was in, He had a very weird way of introducing his cousin to the

  50. people around him. He says, look, here's the Lamb

  51. of God, the one that takes away the sins of the world.

  52. But John had spiritized to see what Jesus was going to

  53. accomplish. He knew that his cousin was

  54. going to do something that no one else could ever do.

  55. And so I want to ask you this. Have you ever felt that the only

  56. tough part of you know, being a believer, being a believer in

  57. Jesus, the follower of Jesus, is admitting just how sinful we

  58. are. We needed a lamb who would take

  59. away the sins of the world because we ourselves are so

  60. sinful. We needed the lamb who would

  61. take our sins upon himself. Sometimes it's easier to look at

  62. someone else and say they are so sinful or they're doing

  63. something. Or we look at the crimes that

  64. are happening in our countries and we look at those people and

  65. think, well, what a sinful person.

  66. But to come back to ourselves and to remember that I am so

  67. sinful and that's why Jesus died for me, I continue to grapple

  68. with sin. I'm not no longer a slave to it.

  69. I now have power over it. But it doesn't change the fact

  70. that we are sinful. We are sinners that were saved

  71. by grace and we we are sinners who are continually in need of

  72. that grace. It's a saving grace that it

  73. happens every day. That's the renewing work of the

  74. Holy Spirit. So before we go further, I want

  75. to just first look at the power of the blood.

  76. We're going to be looking at a lot of scripture today, so I

  77. would urge you to keep your Bibles open.

  78. We're going to begin with Hebrews Chapter 9.

    Hebrews 9 chapter mention

  79. We're going to be reading about the power of the blood for you

  80. to understand, actually in its entirety.

  81. Why are we focusing on the blood?

  82. I thought today was today was about the cross, but I want to

  83. just encourage you. It's about the cross.

  84. But from the cross float the blood of Jesus, which for you

  85. and me was our redemption. So I want us to look at Hebrews

    Hebrews 9:12–15

  86. Chapter 9 verses 12 to 15. This is what it says.

  87. With his own blood, not the blood of goats and calves, He

  88. entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our

  89. redemption forever. Under the old system, the blood

  90. of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse

  91. people's bodies from ceremonial impurity.

  92. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our

  93. consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living

  94. God. For by the power of the eternal

  95. Spirit, Christ offered Himself to God as a perfect sacrifice

  96. for us sins. That is why He is the one who

  97. mediates a new the covenant between God and people, so that

  98. all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has

  99. promised them. For Christ died to set them free

  100. from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that

  101. first covenant. The first thing that we looked

  102. at look at in terms of the power of the blood is it It wipes our

  103. sins clean, and therefore it sets us free from the penalty of

  104. sin. When you go to a store and you

  105. see an outfit, there's always something attached to it, and

  106. that's that, the price tag. All our sins have a price tag to

  107. it. You commit adultery, there's a

  108. price tag. You lose your marriage or you

  109. you are distant from God. Maybe you have an addiction to a

  110. certain substance, but there's a price tag attached to that sin.

  111. Maybe it's an anger problem. Again, there's a price tag to

  112. that sin where you antagonize and hurt people.

  113. All our sin has a price tag. But the beautiful thing is that

  114. in Jesus, the sin itself is wiped clean.

  115. So there's nothing to hold the tag on to now.

  116. And so there's no longer a penalty for it.

  117. And so we are set free from the penalty of sin.

  118. Isn't that amazing? Hebrews chapter 10, verses 19 to

    Hebrews 10:19–22

  119. 22, it says. And so, dear brothers and

  120. sisters, we can boldly enter heaven's most holy place because

  121. of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new

  122. and living way, giving through the curtain, giving way through

  123. the curtain into the most holy place.

  124. And since we have a great high priest who rules over God's

  125. house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere

  126. hearts, fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have

  127. been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean, and our

  128. blood bodies have been washed with pure water.

  129. Picture a dark room with heavy sun blocking curtains.

  130. You know you have those these kind of curtains now just so

  131. heavy that cuts all the light out.

  132. Israel and the rest of the world was literally in a darkened room

  133. when Jesus died on that cross, when the blood flowed from his

  134. broken body. It says that he made a way to

  135. the presence of God himself. The curtain in the temple was

  136. torn into two right from the top, right down to the bottom of

  137. the curtains. And the blood therefore opens a

  138. way to God and brings us into his presence.

  139. Up until then, the high priests had to do all of this work of

  140. mediation. They had to offer the

  141. sacrifices. And then people could actually,

  142. you know, present their, you know, Thanksgiving to God or

  143. their offerings to God. But now, in this beautiful turn

  144. of events, the blood opened up the curtains.

  145. And you know what? When you open a blocked room, a

  146. light blocked room. Have you seen how the sunlight

  147. just pours into the room? It lights up every crevice, but

  148. it was no difference spiritually that that day.

  149. On on that Friday afternoon when Jesus's blood flowed, the way to

  150. the Father was open. No longer with priests needed as

  151. mediators. No longer did they have to look

  152. to any other means to have access to God.

  153. They had direct access to the you and I have direct access

  154. because of the blood. Let's look now at Hebrews

    Hebrews 12:22–24

  155. chapter 12 verses 22 to 24. It says.

  156. But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living

  157. God, this heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of

  158. angels, to the General Assembly and Church of the first born who

  159. are registered in heaven. To God the judge of all, to the

  160. spirits of just just men made perfect.

  161. To Jesus, the mediator of the New Covenant, and to the blood

  162. of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

  163. If you remember the story of Cain and Abel, Cain turns to his

  164. brother in the field after his sacrifice was not accepted and

  165. in a fit of rage kills Abel. When God confronts Cain, he

  166. asked, Where's your brother? He asked.

  167. Am I my brother's keeper? He says your brother's blood

  168. cries out to me from the ground, which opened up to receive it.

  169. And and So what Abel's blood was probably screaming for was for

  170. justice, for recompense. But today he says the blood of

  171. Jesus speaks a better thing. What does it speak?

  172. The blood of Jesus speaks mercy over punishment.

  173. It speaks forgiveness over condemnation.

  174. Isn't that amazing? The blood of Jesus speaks a

  175. better thing and brings restoration.

  176. In the Old Covenant, the blood didn't speak restoration

  177. necessarily. But here in the New Covenant,

  178. when this blood was being poured out, it spoke restoration, it

  179. spoke peace, it spoke love, It spoke volumes of grace.

  180. The blood speaks over us. So the main thing that you need

  181. to remember in terms of the power of the blood is it wipes

  182. our slates clean, No more sin. It wipes our sins away.

  183. It removes the penalty of sin. It opens the way to God himself

  184. and leads us into His presence presence directly.

  185. And thirdly, it speaks and brings restoration.

  186. Isn't that amazing? The blood of Abel, it didn't

  187. speak restoration. It's it's screamed for justice.

  188. But today the blood of Jesus speaks forgiveness, speaks

  189. mercy, and I want to encourage us to think of this in a new

  190. way. When you look at the blood of

  191. Jesus, I want you to remember the theme for this year at V as

  192. I and the theme for this year is set apart.

  193. Right? But God has marked us for His

  194. own He set us apart. But I want to bring our

  195. attention to Hebrews chapter 10, verse 10.

    Hebrews 10:10

  196. And this is what it says. And in accordance with this will

  197. of God, we who believe in the message of salvation have been

  198. sanctified, that is set apart as holy for God and His purposes

  199. through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, the Messiah,

  200. the anointed. Once for all, we have been

  201. sanctified, set apart as holy for God and His purposes.

  202. How? By the blood of Jesus.

  203. So the call on us today is to a holy separation.

  204. You and I, we live in the real world.

  205. We have real jobs. We meet with the real people.

  206. So what does this look like? He's calling us to being set

  207. apart. No longer is it an option.

  208. It's a command. Because we were bought at such a

  209. high price, it was not ordinary that someone would die for us in

  210. such a gruesome way, give their life for us so that their blood

  211. ran and washed me clean. I have no other response except

  212. to being set apart. Why are we finding it so hard to

  213. be set apart? Far from the madding crowd?

  214. We want to hang out with people. We want to merge in.

  215. We want to fit in. We're so desperate from the time

  216. of little children in kindergarten, You know, some of

  217. us are trying to fit in when God distinctly called us to be set

  218. apart. How can we have the incessant

  219. desire to fit in when his blood has marked us and set us apart?

  220. Those are things we need to consider for ourselves.

  221. What does it look like to be actually set apart, to have a

  222. holy separation? I want us to look at Hebrews

    Hebrews 13:10–13

  223. chapter 13 verses 10 to 13. It says we have an altar from

  224. which those who serve the Tabernacle, the sacred tent,

  225. have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals

  226. whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as

  227. an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp.

  228. Therefore Jesus also suffered and died outside the city gate,

  229. so that he might sanctify and set apart for God as holy the

  230. people who believe through the shedding of his own blood.

  231. So let us go outside to him, outside the camp, bearing his

  232. contempt, the disgrace and shame that he had to suffer.

  233. When you look at this, it gives us a clear picture of what it

  234. looks like for us today to be set apart.

  235. Jesus suffered on all you know, that route of Via della Rossa

  236. and right up to the hill of the sky, Golgotha, where he was

  237. bruised, beaten, made to carry his own cross up.

  238. And then, when they fixed him on the cross and hung him, he hung

  239. there for the better part of a couple of hours.

  240. He suffered outside the gates of Jerusalem.

  241. He was removed from his place of birth.

  242. From his origins he was taken separately.

  243. He was separated and isolated he was and this this particular

  244. hill would stand out so that people from a long distance away

  245. could actually see him. He was made a spectacular.

  246. He was despised and and afflicted and pointed at and

  247. laughed and mocked. So many of us have a problem

  248. with people disliking us. We have a a a constant need to

  249. please people. I'm one such person.

  250. It offends me that I've offended someone else.

  251. It hurts that someone would treat me bad, and I didn't

  252. deserve it when I didn't do anything that deserved it, when

  253. they rightly deserved something and yet they looked at me like

  254. the problem. It's awesome.

  255. But when you read this, it brings us into a sharp focus of

  256. what God expects from us. That when his blood has washed

  257. us, it sets us apart. And there will be times when you

  258. take a stand for Jesus in your work spot, in your family, in

  259. your home, in your neighborhood, wherever you go.

  260. Maybe when you're travelling, when you take a stand for Jesus,

  261. it will cause reproach to fall upon you.

  262. You will be name called, You will be called out.

  263. You will be mocked. Will you be willing to bear it

  264. for Jesus? If Jesus could do it, would I be

  265. willing to join him outside the camp?

  266. The camps are many. We look at school kids, they

  267. have those tight cliques and a new kid who joins and God forbid

  268. they don't know which group will fit them in.

  269. Sometimes when they when kids join a school late, they just

  270. fit themselves to the group that's seated closest to them

  271. and then they find within a few weeks they don't fit in at all.

  272. Wherever your camp, wherever you have set up camp, It could be at

  273. office with a group of people. It could be in your apartment.

  274. It could be in your society. It could be anywhere.

  275. Will you take a stand for Jesus? That could even mean

  276. excommunication from that camp. It might mean a season of

  277. loneliness. It might mean a season when you

  278. don't have many people to process things with.

  279. It might mean a season when you need to go deep with God and let

  280. go of certain relationships. But will you do it because Jesus

  281. suffered outside the camp? Will I be willing to go to him,

  282. the writers actually asking us. So let us go to him outside the

  283. camp, bearing his contempt. Too many of us are avoiding the

  284. contempt of people by saying all the right things, by agreeing

  285. with the culture, with agreeing with New Age philosophies, by

  286. appropriating those into our lives.

  287. God's calling you to a holy separation.

  288. What does it look like to separate ourselves practically?

  289. You may say. Well, that was Jesus.

  290. He knew his assignment. He knew right from the beginning

  291. that he was going to suffer outside.

  292. He knew that he was going to be set apart and pulled out and

  293. made fun of. He knew that he signed up for

  294. that. I don't know if I could do it.

  295. I'm a man. I'm a woman.

  296. Let's look at the example of Moses.

  297. Hebrews Chapter 11 verses 24 to 28.

    Hebrews 11:24–28

  298. It says by faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be

  299. called the son of Pharaoh's daughter because he preferred to

  300. endure the hardship of the people of God rather than to

  301. enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.

  302. He considered the reproach of Christ, that is the rebuke he

  303. would suffer for his faithful obedience to God to be greater

  304. wealth than all the treasures of Egypt.

  305. For he looked ahead to the reward promised by God.

  306. By faith he left Egypt, being unafraid of the wrath of the

  307. king, for he endured steadfastly as seeing him who is unseen.

  308. By faith, he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood

  309. on the doorposts, so that the destroyer of the first born

  310. would not touch them. The first born of Israel, Moses

  311. was born to his to an ordinary Jewish family.

  312. But his family, even in that it says by faith, Moses's parents

  313. saw that he was a beautiful special child and they kept him

  314. hidden for three months. And I think that faith was just

  315. carried on intrinsically towards Moses as well.

  316. And so Moses carried that he knew he didn't belong in the

  317. Egyptian household. He knew who he belonged to.

  318. And so it says that he he preferred to endure the hardship

  319. of the people of God rather than the the pleasures of the

  320. Egyptian palace. He considered the reproach of

  321. Christ to be greater than the treasures of Egypt.

  322. It's interesting that by faith he left Egypt.

  323. He didn't worry about the wrath of the king.

  324. He had to run for his life of course.

  325. But he left. And eventually it says by faith

  326. he kept the Passover. Another, the word that is

  327. repeating there is by faith. By faith, it was just an act of

  328. obedience to an unseen God. He couldn't see this God of of

  329. his forefathers in person, but he knew he was speaking to

  330. someone real. He knew he was encountering a

  331. real God and he was taking him at his word.

  332. And the beautiful thing is, he chose again and again to be in

  333. the camp of God himself. He could have chosen many times

  334. along the journey God would say, you move aside, I'm going to

  335. destroy the Israelites and he would stand in the gap and say

  336. don't do that Lord. It's for your name's sake.

  337. It would look like you couldn't bring them out safe.

  338. So please, Lord, hold off. He kept choosing the assignment

  339. that God had placed on. He kept choosing the Jesus camp.

  340. He kept choosing the hardships of following his God, even

  341. though they were easier options at the time.

  342. He could have turned a blind eye to his suffering people, to his

  343. suffering kin and kit. He could have looked away and

  344. said this is not my problem, I don't know how to do this.

  345. I have no background in this. I don't know social justice, I

  346. have not studied and I don't have a degree in this.

  347. I don't have the resources. I'm just an adoptive son.

  348. Instead, he decided to step out. He stepped out of the camp of

  349. comfort. He stepped out of the camp of

  350. being recognized and being honoured into a place of

  351. dishonour, into a place of obscurity, and he trusted the

  352. God who had called him. Will you be OK to suffer for

  353. Jesus to have a hard life just because you've said yes to him

  354. and no to the world? Will you keep your eyes fixed on

  355. an invisible God? For those of you who come from

  356. families that don't know Jesus, they must find it very funny

  357. that you would worship someone without a picture, without an

  358. altar, without any kind of, you know, form.

  359. But the beautiful thing is that our God may not have all of

  360. that, but he's real. He's as real as the breath in

  361. our bodies, and he's doing things that no man can even

  362. understand. His ways are higher, his

  363. thoughts are higher. I love that we are in a season

  364. as a church where a lot of things that God had spoken to us

  365. a couple of years back are coming into fruition.

  366. And so it's amazing for those of us who have been praying to

  367. actually see God's word unfold. We're in a season where he spoke

  368. before, but now he's doing it. And so you're starting to see

  369. the dots join. And without a doubt, we know he

  370. is real. He's so real.

  371. And so will you choose to again and again pursue this God who

  372. others can't see but you know is with you?

  373. Will you choose the Jesus camp? That's the question.

  374. Will you choose? The Jesus camp is not with the

  375. crowds. It's set apart.

  376. It's being outside. It's a little isolated, but you

  377. have an incredible community there with him.

  378. It requires that you will be ready to give up everything that

  379. he asks you to give up. I love that When you read the

  380. Old Testament, you look at the depths of the sacrificial

  381. system. And you know, I've often thought

  382. when I was read, when I read Leviticus, when I read numbers,

  383. I I feel exhausted just reading the content because it feels so

  384. exhaustive. It feels so.

  385. It's tiring to have known these things as a community by heart

  386. and then to do the right thing. Also, this is this week.

  387. I need to do the grain offering. I need to do the burnt offering.

  388. We need to do the trespass offering.

  389. You know, there were so many things that they had to process,

  390. figure out and do it right. And I think God insisted on that

  391. so that there was a certain focus that the people had when

  392. it came to worship because they were so easily turned aside by a

  393. golden calf. They needed their eyes to be

  394. fixed, and in these ritualistic offerings, their hearts, hands,

  395. and mind would be fixed on actually worshipping God with

  396. all that they had. It would keep them far from

  397. idolatry because they would be so caught up in what they needed

  398. to do. And the sacrificial system

  399. actually began way before Leviticus, when Adam and Eve

  400. sinned. God himself provided leather

  401. garments from slain animals to clothe them with so that they

  402. will not make it anymore. It didn't end there.

  403. Then Noah, after the flood and when the earth was starting to

  404. be, you know, reformed, so to speak, with, you know, new trees

  405. and all of that coming back up. And the animals from the ark

  406. were going out to populate the earth.

  407. It says that Noah took a couple of those clean birds and he

  408. actually offered it as a sweet smelling offering to God.

  409. And it says that when God smelt that sweet offering, he decided

  410. he will never destroy the earth by a flood again.

  411. Following that, Abraham on multiple occasions built altars

  412. and so did his sons, and they built altars.

  413. They would worship at the offered burnt offerings.

  414. So the sacrificial system then took shape, and you know, it

  415. became really concrete with Moses when Moses actually gave

  416. instructions on how the Tabernacle had to be built and

  417. how everything had to be set up and how they had to institute

  418. the concept of the blood sacrifice so that things would

  419. be sanctified. The whole every item in the

  420. Tabernacle was sprinkled with blood and the animals were

  421. slain. And the priests would be so

  422. involved in killing these bulls, or the calves, the heifers, the

  423. sheep, and offering them to God. There were strict rules on how

  424. it had to be done, and only the priest could do it.

  425. But every single thing that you looked at, you saw that there

  426. was so much of meaning, deeper meaning, there was so much of

  427. symbolism in what they were doing in the old Covenant.

  428. If you notice Hebrew chapter, Hebrews Chapter 11, verse 28, By

    Hebrews 11:28

  429. faith he kept the Passover. This is Moses and the sprinkling

  430. of blood lest he who destroyed the first born should touch

  431. them. Like I was saying, the blood has

  432. such huge relevance. God gave an instruction to the

  433. people. When you eat animals don't eat

  434. the blood because the life of the animal is in the blood.

  435. And yet at the Passover, just before they left Egypt on their

  436. exodus, God says I want you to kill a goat.

  437. Take his soap, which is a kind of a herb herbaceous plant.

  438. Dip it in the blood and then smear it on your doorposts right

  439. now. How did Moses know that this was

  440. something he had to do? He trusted God.

  441. God told him do this. It will protect your homes.

  442. Because I'm going to send a destroyer who is going to

  443. destroy every first born. If you want your people to be

  444. safe, if you want your people to be set apart, you need to do

  445. this. And Moses intrinsically knew

  446. that he had to do what was being told to him.

  447. This would be the beginning of a lot of instructions that God was

  448. going to give him. And so he obeyed and told them

  449. that in every single Israelite family obeyed.

  450. And I love if you watched The Prince of Egypt, it's a cartoon

  451. animation of of the story of Moses and the people of Israel.

  452. And I love the way they showed that that particular scene that

  453. night everyone is locked into their homes and this dark figure

  454. descends from the sky and starts to visit the houses.

  455. And every time the figure came near one of the Israelite

  456. houses, one of the Jewish homes, they had the blood marked on the

  457. door post. It would look at.

  458. It was just like a big cloud that came down a dark cloud.

  459. It would visit that it cannot enter the house because of the

  460. blood and it would swerve and go to the next place.

  461. But the same dark creature would went into Egypt and caused havoc

  462. in every family. From the Pharaoh's home to the

  463. bonded labour in Egypt. Everyone lost someone in their

  464. home. The power of the blood, the

  465. power of the sprinkled blood. By faith, Moses kept the

  466. Passover. Today we are no different.

  467. We can sometimes read these things as these incredible

  468. stories which maybe give us goosebumps and we think, well,

  469. that was them. But I want to encourage you

  470. something about something. Today we know the power of the

  471. blood. We know that it speaks.

  472. We know that it opened the way. We know that it washes our sins

  473. clean. But if we don't appropriate that

  474. power in our lives, we're going to live powerless, empty lives.

  475. We're going to live lives that are defeated by sin again and

  476. again, even though the battle was already won.

  477. Today we have that blood of Jesus in us, but it requires for

  478. us to appropriate it. When you look at the the

  479. sacrificial system, the priests had to dip their hands in the

  480. blood. They had to actually touch it.

  481. When they when they cut the throat of the animal, when it

  482. bled out, they would collect the the blood in a vessel.

  483. And I'm sure there was a whole lot of blood on their hands.

  484. Ignore the pun, there was a lot of blood on their hands.

  485. And then when Moses and the priests had to dedicate the

  486. Tabernacle, they had to dip their hands in and they had to

  487. sprinkle it. They had to sprinkle it.

  488. He had to apply it on the left lobe of Aaron and his sons and

  489. on different places to sanctify them, to mark them as being set

  490. apart. What am I trying to say?

  491. They had to get their hands messy with the blood.

  492. There was no, you couldn't be, you know, all being germophobic

  493. at that point, because when the blood flowed, you had to

  494. actually be there to touch it, to apply it when Moses and the

  495. Jews at that time had to apply it on the doorpost.

  496. You think that was a a clean job?

  497. No, it was a messy job. They probably got the animal's

  498. blood on their clothes, on the floor.

  499. And you know, when they were sprinkling it, some of it must

  500. have dripped on them. Appropriation is everything.

  501. The blood of Jesus was shed for us.

  502. Yes, it flowed from that. His body slowed down, I'm sure,

  503. But you and I need to take the effort to appropriate it and

  504. make it ours. Today I want to ask you, have

  505. you ever tried this? Have you tried to appropriate

  506. the blood of Jesus on your life? Have you appropriated it over

  507. your children's lives? Have you appropriated it over

  508. your home, over your office, over the things that you love

  509. and own? What do I mean by that?

  510. What do I mean by that? So this past few weeks we have

  511. moved from, you know, all of us use ACS at home in Chennai

  512. because it's really hot and I have a problem wherein when it's

  513. cold, I when you know, I need a comforter.

  514. When it's warm also I need a comforter because I can't bear

  515. the cold of the AC. And so this past week we have a

  516. comforter which we use, but it only works for geshom.

  517. For me, it's way too cold even with the comforter.

  518. So through the week from Sunday evening, I was trying out

  519. different bed sheets over the comforter just for my side, you

  520. know, to keep me a little extra warm because I wasn't sleeping

  521. well at all. I kept waking up because of the

  522. cold switching off the AC, switching it back on.

  523. It was exhausting. Finally, on Wednesday night, I

  524. just, I tried a new blanket. So this was, you know, a little

  525. heavier and it just rested on the comforter, didn't move off

  526. in the night. And on Wednesday night I had the

  527. best sleep ever because the the comforter stayed, the blanket on

  528. top of it stayed. I was at the right optimal

  529. temperature and I could sleep well.

  530. I didn't have to wake up. I didn't have to switch off the

  531. AC, none of that. And when I woke up in the

  532. morning, I was thinking about, you know, how I had to

  533. experiment so much with these different coverings till I

  534. settled on this one blanket that worked.

  535. And I felt like God was reminding me that that's what

  536. the blood of Jesus is. It's a covering.

  537. And too many of us have been trying different coverings on

  538. our life. We make sure we have the best

  539. insurance, home insurance, health insurance, dental

  540. insurance. Some of us are so concerned

  541. about the right networks because if this business fails, that

  542. opportunity may come in. Too many of us are trusting in

  543. friendships and thinking that they will be our covering.

  544. Some of us love our marriages so much that we think our spouses

  545. are covering. For those of you who are older,

  546. you're so worried about your retirement, you think your

  547. children are going to be the covering.

  548. Rightly so. But God is coming to this place

  549. of asking us. My blood is your covering today.

  550. If I stand before my Heavenly Father and I can speak to him

  551. boldly, I can speak to him As a friend.

  552. I can speak to him and tell him my heart's desires, I can weep

  553. before him. It is because I am covered by

  554. the blood of the lamb. He sees me as redeemed.

  555. He sees me as ransomed. He sees me as pure.

  556. I'm covered. You are covered.

  557. What? I'll fitting cover.

  558. Have you been using? The problem is the covers that

  559. we use. Like I mentioned, it could be

  560. people, it could be situations, it could be our jobs.

  561. There's so many things that we tend to use as coverings to

  562. protect ourselves, to make sure that you know, all our ducks are

  563. in a row. The problem with that is they

  564. will not bring lasting peace. The evidence of the covering and

  565. its legitimacy in your life is the peace that it will bring.

  566. When you appropriate the blood of Jesus as you're covering,

  567. when you believe and say, Lord, I claim the blood of Jesus over

  568. myself, I believe that I'm healed.

  569. When you claim it over a child who's who's out of control and

  570. say I plead the blood of Jesus on this child, I know that your

  571. blood has already washed him clean.

  572. He's OK. He's going to be fine.

  573. When we believe that the blood of Jesus washed this person or

  574. this situation, when we pleaded over our lives, it changes

  575. everything. It changes how we look at our

  576. current situation. And the important thing is that

  577. when we begin to appropriate the blood of Jesus into our lives,

  578. we see three things happen. And that's what I want to leave

  579. with you. The first thing is you have

  580. peace with God. Romans chapter 5 verses 9 to 10.

    Romans 5:9–10

  581. Now that we are set right with God by means of the sacrificial

  582. death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is no longer a

  583. question of being at odds with God in any way.

  584. If when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with

  585. God by the sacrificial death of his Son.

  586. But now that we are at our best, just think of how our lives will

  587. expand and deepen by means of his resurrection life.

  588. Isn't that amazing? When we were at our worst, we

  589. were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of

  590. his Son. The blood of Jesus got you

  591. peace. Maybe you're someone who's

  592. saying I don't understand God's ways.

  593. He feels unkind. He feels mean.

  594. He took away my job. He allowed my marriage to

  595. crumble. A child that was wayward left.

  596. How is he still good? I can't be at peace with this

  597. God. I can't pray to him.

  598. I don't know what the outcomes are going to look like.

  599. It looks all over the place. It feels too unpredictable.

  600. I want you to remember that when you appropriate the blood into

  601. your life, you come into this place of, I should say, just

  602. this casual relaxation when it comes into being in the hands of

  603. God. You realize that God.

  604. Yes, I'm having these health issues, but you've got it.

  605. Your blood has washed me clean. Bio stripes.

  606. I am healed. I'll be OK.

  607. The blood unites us with God. It makes peace with him so that

  608. I begin to view his ways through the lens of his beautiful

  609. character, Not through my expectations, because my

  610. expectations are so warped. But I begin to look at him and

  611. say, Lord, I know that you have a plan.

  612. Even in this, even in this huge set back.

  613. I know you have a plan, and the blood of Jesus does this.

  614. When you appropriate and say, Lord, I apply your blood upon

  615. this particular situation which is disturbed, disturbing me so

  616. much, he'll begin to give you fresh perspective where you will

  617. start to accept his sovereignty in your life.

  618. That's the beautiful thing. The blood of Jesus enables you

  619. to accept that he is God. He can do as He pleases, but he

  620. will do good. He will turn anything around for

  621. good, for his glory. The second thing is when we

  622. appropriate the blood of Jesus, we have peace with ourselves.

  623. Isaiah chapter 53, verses two to six.

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  624. It says the servant grew up before God.

  625. A scrawny seedling, a scrubby plant in a parched field.

  626. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us

  627. to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed

  628. over a man who suffered, who knew pain first hand.

  629. One look at him and people turned away.

  630. We looked down on him, thought he was scum, but the fact is it

  631. was our pains. He carried our disfigurements,

  632. all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on

  633. himself that God was punishing him for his own failures, but it

  634. was our sins that did that to him that ripped and tore and

  635. crushed him our sins. He took the punishment and that

  636. made us whole. Through his bruises we get

  637. healed. We are all like sheep who

  638. wandered off and gotten lost. We've all done our own thing,

  639. gone our own way, and God has piled all our sins, everything

  640. we have done wrong on him, on him by it says he took the

  641. punishment and that made us whole spirit, soul and body.

  642. So often the reason we feel out of control all over the place is

  643. because they're not In Sync. We feel discordant because

  644. stuff's going on inside, but we're speaking something

  645. different. We're acting in a different way,

  646. but God is saying that because of the blood that was spilt on

  647. your behalf, that blood doesn't just physically heal you, it

  648. heals you spiritually. It heals your emotions.

  649. It heals every part of your life so that at the end of your life

  650. you are completely whole. When you're presented to God

  651. himself, isn't that amazing? So your dislocated parts of your

  652. life, your wounded, broken pieces, will come together when

  653. the blood of Jesus washes over you.

  654. I love the description for Shalom that Eugene Peterson

  655. gives. He says it's a vibrating

  656. wholeness that resonates throughout your being.

  657. It's that abundance that Jesus talked about in John 1010.

  658. I have come that you may have. Life in abundance is basically

  659. peace that holds all the bits together.

  660. Isn't that amazing? And so that's what happens.

  661. When we appropriate the blood of Jesus on ourselves, we have

  662. peace with ourselves. When we appropriated the blood

  663. of Jesus on ourselves, we have peace with God and we finally

  664. have peace with one another. One Corinthians, chapter 10,

  665. verses 16 to 17, it says, is the cup of blessing which we bless

  666. at the Lord's Supper not a sharing in the blood of Christ?

  667. Indeed it is. Is the bread which we break, not

  668. a sharing in the body of Christ. Indeed it is.

  669. Since there is one bread, we believers, who are many, are

  670. united into one body. For we all partake of the one

  671. bread which represents the body of Christ.

  672. That is what we do at communion. When we actually partake of the

  673. Lord's table, we are actually uniting ourselves with others

  674. whom the blood connected us with.

  675. Today, the body of Christ is our greatest gift.

  676. I love that when we go to another country, we go to

  677. another city. The minute you see a fellow

  678. follower of Jesus, you know the connection which comes as so

  679. uncanny. We may look different, we may

  680. have different languages, we may be part of different

  681. denominations. But the fact that we love Jesus

  682. unites us so fast. It's important that we apply the

  683. blood of Jesus over our relationships because then we

  684. truly experience peace. Will there be discord?

  685. Will there be issues? Yes.

  686. But the blood of Jesus brings peace.

  687. The blood of Jesus unites US against all odds, however

  688. different we are. No matter what our upbringings,

  689. no matter what our socio economic status looks like, the

  690. blood of Jesus brings us together.

  691. Even as I close, I want to just ask you this.

  692. Do you know Jesus for yourself? We often take it for granted

  693. that as you're listening in that you know the Lord personally.

  694. But if you don't know Jesus, I would encourage you to make a

  695. decision today. It's a very simple thing, like I

  696. began. John introduced John the

  697. Baptist, introduced Jesus, his cousin, saying, look, the Lamb

  698. of God that takes away the sins of the world.

  699. You and I primarily have to admit that we are sinners in

  700. need of a saviour. And if you are someone who's

  701. saying I need Jesus, I I've heard of him, He seems nice, but

  702. I feel so sinful on my own. I don't think I can save myself.

  703. I need Jesus. Can I lead you into a very

  704. simple prayer? It's a prayer where we just say,

  705. Lord, I'm a Sinner. I need you.

  706. I believe that you sent your son.

  707. I believe that he died for me. I believe that he rose again.

  708. And I believe that he's going to walk with me into eternity, that

  709. I'm going to have a life full of purpose.

  710. That's all it takes. It's that simple a prayer.

  711. And the beautiful thing is that as soon as you pray that prayer,

  712. you first of all become part of the body of Christ of which he's

  713. the head. But more importantly, your sins

  714. are immediately washed. You have access to the Holy of

  715. Holies, the presence of God himself.

  716. And not just that, it doesn't end with that.

  717. You now have access to the new life, a life that is filled,

  718. where you have power to overcome the things that you were a slave

  719. to before. So, as I pray, would you repeat

  720. the simple prayer after me? This is for those who don't know

  721. Jesus. Heavenly Father, I admit that

  722. I'm a Sinner. I admit that I cannot save

  723. myself. I need a Saviour.

  724. I invite Jesus, the Son of God into my life.

  725. I believe that he came to earth, died for me, rose again, and is

  726. now alive in heaven. I believe that he now lives in

  727. me and will be with me as I navigate life here on earth.

  728. I love you. Heavenly Father, thank you for

  729. choosing me and setting me apart to know you in Jesus name.

  730. Amen. Amen.

  731. Welcome to the family of God. You belong to Jesus now.

  732. You're one of his. You're a child of God.

  733. You have incredible things lying ahead of you.

  734. So I just want to congratulate you as you've started this

  735. incredible journey. The blood of Jesus has washed

  736. you. It has set you apart.

  737. If you have never appropriated the blood of Jesus into your

  738. life, if you feel I have used every other covering known to

  739. man, you know, much like Adam and Eve, when they sinned, they

  740. took fig leaves and tried to cover themselves.

  741. But God knew that was such an insufficient thing because the

  742. minute you plucked a leaf off its stalk and put it on you, it

  743. would wither. It's not a permanent covering.

  744. The blood of Jesus is a permanent covering.

  745. It covers you so that when you stand before the throne, you are

  746. counted as righteous. It covers you.

  747. It cleanses you. It wipes away everything.

  748. It speaks God's love over you. It speaks his mercy and

  749. forgiveness over you. And so I want to ask that if you

  750. have never appropriated this love, you've never claimed it

  751. over your life. You've never pleaded it over

  752. your life. Today I want to lead you in that

  753. prayer, believing that as you do so, you're going to have peace

  754. with God. Maybe you've been wrestling with

  755. God. Maybe you've been saying God.

  756. I don't want certain things that you are promising because it

  757. feels like it comes with strings attached.

  758. I don't know your heart, God. Maybe you've been struggling

  759. with yourself, with ailment after ailment, set back, after

  760. set back, Emotional, physical, financial, any area, he says.

  761. I want to bring peace within yourself.

  762. Maybe you've been struggling relationally in your family with

  763. your friends. Plead the blood of Jesus over

  764. those relationships. Can we do that together?

  765. Father in heaven, we just thank you because you are here.

  766. We thank you for the great gift of your Son, Jesus, how much it

  767. must have pained you to watch your son go through that

  768. suffering at the hands of other image bearers.

  769. Thank you, Father, for that plan of redemption.

  770. Thank you for the perfect sacrifice that Jesus was.

  771. And even now, Lord, we just plead the blood of Jesus upon

  772. ourselves, upon our families, upon our circumstances, upon our

  773. homes of Father, that you would fill every place with your

  774. fullness, that you would bring peace like never before.

  775. I pray your Father, that you will wash away everything that

  776. is not of you, that God you will open up, Lord, areas that have

  777. been so dark and dank to the brilliance of your light and

  778. presence. Father, I pray where negativity

  779. has spoken into our lives that Lord the blood of Jesus would

  780. speak life and truth and hope Once we pray in the name of

  781. Jesus and believe that we are covered by the blood of the

  782. Lamb. We thank you that your blood

  783. flows through our veins today. We thank you that you are

  784. healing us from deep within at the DNA level.

  785. You're bringing healing, Lord of the emotional level, you're

  786. bringing healing. Father, thank you that our

  787. spirits, which have been dead for very long, are being revived

  788. by the blood of Jesus. We thank you, Lord, that by your

  789. stripes we are healed. We thank you that the

  790. chastisement that I should have been on us was on you.

  791. And because of that, Lord, today we are set free.

  792. We thank you, We love you, We glorify you.

  793. We pray that Lord our lives would scream and shout of Your

  794. grace, your mercy and your forgiveness.

  795. We submit ourselves to you, cover us with your precious

  796. blood. In Jesus name I pray.

  797. Amen. Amen.

  798. God bless you, even as you get into this last two days of the

  799. Lent season. Can I just ask that you would

  800. take some time on this weekend to just spend some time with the

  801. Lord? Ask him to show you things that

  802. maybe you missed in the past 40 days.

  803. Ask him to reveal himself clearer than before, and maybe

  804. you haven't had the time to pray or intercede for someone.

  805. But if you could spend some time this weekend just pleading the

  806. blood of Jesus on yourself and asking God to move in a powerful

  807. way, can you do that? I hope you can.

  808. God bless you. God bless you.

  809. Thanks for listening to this message.
