  1. Hi, welcome to the Via Zion sermon podcast.

  2. We are a local church based here in Chennai, India.

  3. We are so glad you are with us and hope that this will

  4. encourage, inspire and instill fresh faith in you.

  5. We have started the Advent season and are thrilled that we

  6. get to celebrate Jesus for all that he is, has been, and all

  7. that He will do. We look at Jesus, the living

  8. Word today, the one who left heaven and walked the earth To

  9. be one of us. As you listen in our prayer is

  10. that you will experience the power and fulfillment that only

  11. Jesus gives. Hi, it's such a joy and honour

  12. to be being God's word to you. Today we'll be going to the

  13. second part of our Advent series where we'll be looking at the

  14. glimpses of Jesus this Advent through the book of John.

  15. Typically we use Matthew, Mark, Luke, the one of those 3 gospels

  16. to actually go through the Advent series.

  17. But this time, even as we were preparing, we felt let's do John

  18. because John had a distinct way of seeing Jesus.

  19. And even as we look at that, we'll be able to see what he

  20. intended for us to see through with the Scriptures.

  21. So even as we look into Gospel of John last week, you saw that

  22. Jesus is the word. Even as we saw these three

  23. characters made the Zechariah and the Shepherds, we saw that

  24. God's word is unfailing. We also saw that God's word is

  25. exceedingly powerful. Today we're going to be looking

  26. into the other aspect, into the couple of verses.

  27. When we read through in John chapter 1, we see Jesus being

    John 1 chapter mention

  28. referred to as the life. Last week was a word, this week

  29. is a life. So he's.

  30. Referred to the word. And the life and one of the

  31. verses that we're going to meditate on is from John chapter

    John 1 chapter mention

  32. 1, verses three to four. And this is what it says through

  33. Him all things were made. Without Him, nothing was made

  34. that has been made. In Him was life, and the life

  35. was a light of all mankind. Even as we read this John 1

  36. verses three to four, we see that everything was created

  37. through Him. There's nothing that was not

  38. created through Him. And this life that John writes

  39. about, when we look at the Greek word which means Zoe, it means

  40. life, both physical, which is basically our present life, the

  41. very moment of physical life. And it also is about a spiritual

  42. life where it talks about the future where we when we lose our

  43. life here on this earth and we close our eyes, it just doesn't

  44. end here, but we continue on the future existence of ours.

  45. And so even as we look at this, there is all-encompassing thing

  46. that we see happen within our own lives.

  47. It's the physical and the spiritual dimensions of it.

  48. And this happens only through Jesus.

  49. And John goes on to say that Jesus is the Zoe life.

  50. And today I want us to come to a place where we all will just not

  51. live our physical lives. And so today if I have to ask

  52. you, how is life, we all will immediately talk about our

  53. present life. You know, I time and again I've

  54. met a lot of people when I ask how life is going, they

  55. immediately think they just need to tell all the hardships of

  56. what's happening, but they fail to understand, you know, in the

  57. light of all that I want to see happen.

  58. These things are mandatory and I'm able to push through it.

  59. There's a lack of faith in our lives to talk about.

  60. And I think many a times we are so caught up in our physical

  61. lives where Jesus is coming to say this Christmas.

  62. Hey, even as we celebrate Christmas, remember why I came.

  63. I just didn't come for this physical life because then we

  64. won't be any different than the people who were there to receive

  65. Him, and yet they did not know him and rather we would come to

  66. a place of saying God. This physical life seems hard,

  67. but I'm going to pursue you. And through you I'm going to see

  68. completion because there's much more beyond this physical life

  69. into the spiritual life. And so today, even as we.

  70. Look through our. Own lives.

  71. I believe God wants us to examine our hearts.

  72. Let's continue reading. John 111 to 13.

  73. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive

  74. him. Yet to all who did receive him,

  75. to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to

  76. become children of God, children born out of natural descent, nor

  77. of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

  78. And I think this is one of the pivotal verses for us to go in

  79. terms of application. John 111 to 13.

  80. It says here the first thing. It says His own didn't deceive

  81. him. What is his own?

  82. Jesus was born as a Jewish carpenter's son.

  83. Yes, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, but when he was

  84. born, He was born into a family. And his own didn't deceive him.

  85. They didn't realize that he was a Messiah because the very

  86. Messiah that they thought they wanted was different.

  87. And so today, I think a lot of times.

  88. The Redeemer that we are wanting is entirely different.

  89. Our expectation is completely different from what God is

  90. wanting to fulfill in and through us.

  91. And so He's coming here to set our expectations.

  92. So today, if a lot of you are unable to receive Jesus, it's

  93. probably our expectations which have to be changed.

  94. The second thing we see is yet. To all who did receive if you

  95. can circle the word receive it says yeah, he and those who

  96. believe in his name. So it's just not about receiving

  97. but believing he gave the right to become children of God.

  98. And so today if you and I are wanting to experience this Zoe

  99. life. We have to not only receive him,

  100. so it doesn't just mean. That we accept Jesus Christ as a

  101. Lord and personal Saviour, but we have to believe with our

  102. hearts wholeheartedly. He gives us the right to become

  103. children of God. Children not of natural descent

  104. or a planned child like how we have in marriages.

  105. And maybe it happens because of marriage, but we are born of God

  106. and there's a. Distinct call on our lives to

  107. live out this life to its fullest because we are children

  108. of God. So even as we look down today, I

  109. just want us to think as to what are some of the pop culture

  110. things that we are talked about with regard to life today.

  111. You and I plan our lives quite well.

  112. For those of us who are in our midlife, we kind of like know

  113. that we need to do certain things so that we are good

  114. stewards as as God's children, We also take on the role of

  115. being parents. And so we have to steward our

  116. lives well so that we can take them along so that they will be

  117. able to live well. They'll be able to do the things

  118. God's called them to do. We maintain a particular socio

  119. economic status so that we are able to do out everything like

  120. in terms of our work, in terms of the place we've decided to be

  121. in. But all these are still

  122. physical. And here God is asking.

  123. Us to live our best life here, right here on this earth.

  124. Even as we live our physical lives, He's asking us to live it

  125. to it's best. Even in our spiritual life, He

  126. wants us to live it to it's best.

  127. But pop culture has a different way.

  128. I was just reading through some of these articles, what 2024

  129. writers, bloggers have been talking about living the best

  130. life yet and it says where you have your own control.

  131. Three things that they I was able to conclude was your own

  132. control. You are able to have your own

  133. power, which means everything is under your own power.

  134. You get to choose and you get your owning who you're being.

  135. So control, power, and who you really are is all centered

  136. around self. But Jesus, when he came into

  137. this world, reversed that. When he came into this world, He

  138. said, hey, if you want to live the life that I am calling you

  139. to live, you need to receive me. Wherein we allow him to come in.

  140. We believe in Him and then no longer are we living our lives.

  141. We're living our lives through him.

  142. There's suddenly this filter where everything passes through

  143. him, everything passes through him.

  144. And with this, I was, even as I was melting, I was like, God,

  145. what is it that you want us as a church?

  146. What is it you want us as individuals to do?

  147. He says to live in the Zoe life, you need to be doing these three

  148. things. And I just want, I've picked up

  149. three things which I want us to see through the Advent stories

  150. of how it unfolded and unpacked and how they they saw Jesus and

  151. how we get to see Jesus today so that we'll be able.

  152. To live it out. So today when we live, we don't

  153. live with the dead end in mind where there's no path after

  154. that. We'd rather live with eternity

  155. in perspective. What does that mean?

  156. It means that when I have my eyes fully on Jesus.

  157. I know that he's wanting me to live the life that he's called

  158. me here, be impactful here, so that when I close my eyes, I'll

  159. be able to live the life what eternity has in.

  160. Store So today, even as we live the Zoe life, there are three

  161. things which I want to highlight The first thing is the Zoe life

  162. can be lived when we live in submission on.

  163. God's side, the Zoe life can be lived only when we live in

  164. submission, when we are on God's side.

  165. In John chapter 8 verses 31 to 34, Jesus was actually talking

    John 8:31–34

  166. to the people and to the Pharisees and all of them, and

  167. even as He was talking to them, suddenly they started

  168. questioning and I just wanted to draw attention to that.

  169. In John 8 verse 31 onwards it says to the Jews who had

    John 8:31

  170. believed him. Jesus said, if you hold my

  171. teaching, you are really my disciples, then you will know

  172. the truth and the truth. Will set you free, they answered

  173. them. We are Abraham's descendants and

  174. have never been slaves of anyone.

  175. How can you say that we shall be set free?

  176. Jesus replied. Very truly, I tell you, everyone

  177. who sins. Is a slave to sin even as I read

  178. from John 31 to 34, we see when Jesus tells them you should not

  179. just believe me, but you should also hold to the teaching

  180. there's a thing that Jesus requires as you believe you hold

  181. on to the. Teaching.

  182. Do what Jesus tells, but the people immediately say, no, we

  183. are not people who are bound. We are already people who are

  184. free. And it's interesting how the

  185. people understand that they are free.

  186. They go back to Abraham. They piggyback of Abraham's

  187. obedience. But Jesus is coming here and

  188. saying each and everyone of you individually, each and everyone

  189. of us are responsible for our salvation today.

  190. Each and everyone of us are responsible for our belief

  191. system today. Each and everyone of us are

  192. responsible for what we have to say about who Jesus is for us.

  193. The problem is today because we are trying to piggyback.

  194. Probably today you've piggybacked of your parents

  195. faith or probably of your spouse's faith or your, you know

  196. of the person who led you to faith.

  197. You're probably piggybacking. But Jesus saying, would you

  198. start doing what I've been teaching you?

  199. That's why even as we heard last week, reading His word is

  200. important. We cannot, a lot of us read His

  201. word but are unable to apply it because we don't take it.

  202. We think this word happened 2000 years back and does it is spirit

  203. breath, which means it has life, which means this.

  204. The the word brings in that encouragement into my physical

  205. being and into my spiritual being.

  206. And what Jesus is saying here is you're trying to piggyback off

  207. Abraham's faith. Abraham obeyed and because of

  208. his obedience a nation got formed.

  209. But then what happened time and again, because of the nation's

  210. disobedience, the time and again went into captivity.

  211. And even when Jesus was speaking this, they were in captivity.

  212. But imagine this, even though physically they are captive,

  213. they somehow think they're still free because Abraham obeyed.

  214. And today Jesus is saying, no, anyone who's sin is a slave to

  215. sin. There is.

  216. And in fact, when you read that entire chapter, Jesus constantly

  217. keeps, you know, rebuttling them, saying you're not serving

  218. God, you're rather serving the God who you think of this earth.

  219. And that's Satan, and he blinds us with that.

  220. And so today. Even as we.

  221. Look into this. Jesus wants us to come to a

  222. place of accepting that. We need to.

  223. Personally follow his teaching yes, we've received we believed,

  224. but are we personally following his teaching you know a lot of

  225. us today love a personal. Discount.

  226. You know, if you get a personal discount it's good, but when

  227. you're travelling with a family and you get a family discount,

  228. you think that's even greater because you've got a bulk

  229. discount for a lot of people. But today the gospel that we are

  230. talking about is for each and everyone.

  231. There's no group discount here. You can't say you know, I'm with

  232. them and just enter. And no, it won't.

  233. Work that way, it's for each and everyone of us to make this

  234. decision. So today, even as we are talking

  235. about this life which represents Jesus, he's asking would you

  236. submit to him? Let's continue on reading John

    John 8:42

  237. chapter 8 verses 42 onwards. It says Jesus said to them.

  238. If God were your Father, you would love me, for I am come

  239. here from God. I've not come here on my own.

  240. God sent me. Why is my language not clear to

  241. you? Because you are unable to hear

  242. what I say. Yet because I tell the truth,

  243. you do not believe me. Can any of you prove me guilty

  244. of sin? If I'm telling the truth, why

  245. don't you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears

  246. what God says. The reason you do not hear is

  247. that you do not belong to God. So today when I look at this

  248. passage, my own heart idols come forward because I'm not able to

  249. wholly commit myself to Jesus teaching, because forgiveness is

  250. hard, because letting go of things is hard, because giving

  251. control is hard. But Jesus is saying here, if you

  252. want to experience a Zoey life, there has to be submission.

  253. You know, you'll soon realize between friends, between you

  254. know, between people that you move around with.

  255. There's always a power struggle. There's always a power struggle.

  256. People want to come off thinking that they know better.

  257. People, you know, put on a show that they, you know, that they

  258. know much more. And you know, there's always

  259. this power struggle. But when we come into our

  260. relationship with Jesus, we come saying, God, you are above

  261. everything. There's no power struggle here.

  262. I'm coming in submission to you, You know, between a husband and

  263. wife, and there's definitely submission issues that can be

  264. there. Between a parent and a child,

  265. there's definitely submission issues that can be there.

  266. Between a boss and a person who's working as an employee,

  267. there'll be definitely submission issues.

  268. But when it comes to our faith and God, we can't dictate to God

  269. what he has to do. Rather we come in alignment and

  270. saying Jesus, I believe you, I've accepted you into my life

  271. and I submit to you. And one of the beautiful things

  272. is we can submit to God yet be on the wrong side.

  273. And I wonder is a breakthrough not coming in our life because

  274. we've submitted to God, but we are on the wrong side of the

  275. camp. Clearly there are two camps, one

  276. that is of God, one that's of Satan.

  277. Which camp are you in? A lot of us today are in the

  278. other camp of the world and are saying is submitted to God.

  279. Yet we've not taken our feet away from there Today God saying

  280. would you move? Because when we start allowing

  281. his teaching to permeate through, when we start living by

  282. his teaching, it will move us from 1 camp to another.

  283. We can receive and believe, but when we receive and start

  284. abiding by His teaching, we start belonging to His Kingdom.

  285. When we belong to His Kingdom, we say, God, we are here.

  286. This is what you're doing. So suddenly what happens?

  287. Waiting doesn't become a painful thing.

  288. Suddenly the pruning doesn't become a hurtful thing.

  289. Suddenly you know when God says slow down, this is what I have

  290. for you for the season. You don't have to do anything

  291. more. You're OK.

  292. Your heart is not wandering, you're not fluttering.

  293. God suddenly gives you a deep contentment, a Zoe like

  294. contentment in your Christian walk because you've submitted to

  295. him and you know that this is the camp I belong to.

  296. You suddenly have nothing to prove.

  297. Suddenly you don't have to fake your Instagram images.

  298. Suddenly you don't have to create an aura around that.

  299. You have everything going right for you.

  300. You can be who you are because you've learned to belong.

  301. This is where God is. This is where I choose to be in

  302. my lack. I know God is there in my in my

  303. even when my bank balances are running dry.

  304. I know this is the camp God's wanting me to be.

  305. So today, how are you and I treating this?

  306. Because belonging happens only when we take Jesus invitation.

  307. He says he wants to reside in us.

  308. He wants to belong inside of us until we willingly allow Jesus

  309. in. He cannot recite, He cannot

  310. stay. What does this invitation look

  311. like when Jesus says Jesus says, allow me to come in because my

  312. burden is easy and my yoke is light, because I will give you

  313. things far beyond what you thought of.

  314. Suddenly a pursuits don't give a certain satisfaction.

  315. Suddenly we realize only his presence does that.

  316. So we have a deep lobby. We allow him to be our guide.

  317. We allow him to speak to us. We allow the posture that he is

  318. causing us to have at this point. 1 of surrender.

  319. We love the way in which he is leading.

  320. US. So this Zoe life comes from a

  321. place of understanding that when we live in submission and we

  322. near God's side, we have a complete life.

  323. We don't have an incomplete life, we have a complete life.

  324. The second thing is when we live the Zoe life, we see that he

  325. brings dead things to life. What does this look like?

  326. When Jesus became a human person, He was literally

  327. embodying the word that was spoken way before all the

  328. prophecies. We heard that over 300

  329. prophecies that was spoken about Jesus.

  330. He literally was The Walking human being.

  331. Here on Earth. That's what the Zoe life does,

  332. because there was suddenly not just a physical life, but there

  333. was a spiritual life. And that's why he.

  334. Is the only true and living God because He's the only person who

  335. died on the cross, who resurrected again and is still

  336. living today. The Zoey life didn't just end

  337. with his death but rather continues on because he's

  338. resurrected and that's why we believe him.

  339. He brings dead things to life today.

  340. If you see the story of Advent is 1 which is of scriptures

  341. being fulfilled today we see the story of Advent.

  342. It's one where restoration happened generation after

  343. generation. No generation was discounted,

  344. for when you see the genealogy of Jesus, you see the lineage

  345. where He came from. He came from imperfection, but

  346. He was perfect. He came from sin that had

  347. generations full of sin, but yet He was sinless.

  348. That's all. Because He is life.

  349. He is the Zoey life, His physical and spiritual match.

  350. And so today, even as we read in Isaiah 96, a lot of us know this

  351. passage, especially in this Christmas season.

  352. We keep quoting it. For and to us, a child is born.

  353. For and to us a son is given, and the government will be on

  354. his shoulders, and he will be called wonderful counselor,

  355. mighty God everlasting. Father.

  356. Prince of Peace, this came into fulfillment when we read Isaiah

  357. 61. One, it says the spirit of the

  358. sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to

  359. proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the

  360. broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and

  361. release from darkness. For this prisoners.

  362. In fact, as Isaiah quoted this, I'm reminded that when Jesus

  363. ministry, whatever he did was only fulfilling this.

  364. He didn't go about conquering kingdoms.

  365. He didn't go about liberating. He didn't go about building an

  366. army. No, he came down to bind up the

  367. broken hearted. He gave freedom for the

  368. captives. What freedom?

  369. Freedom from sin? Freedom from eternal

  370. condemnation, staying in hell. He gave them heaven.

  371. He released people from the prisons of darkness.

  372. To those who needed healing, He gave healing.

  373. And when we read in Luke chapter 4 versus 16 to 21, This is why

    Luke 4 chapter mention

  374. I'm seeing the Zoe life where it brings dead things to life is

  375. there was an audience gathered in a synagogue who was just

  376. going about their weekly Sunday gatherings.

  377. This is what we need the Holy Spirit today in church.

  378. If this church is not Spirit filled it will become.

  379. We will miss out on the God opportunities that will walk

  380. past every Sunday. Every Sunday is a God-given

  381. opportunity, which causes us to be expectant, which causes us to

  382. sing God. We want to see a word being

  383. fulfilled. Luke 416 to 21 says He went to

  384. Nazareth where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath

  385. day he went to the synagogue and was his custom.

  386. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was

  387. handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place

  388. where it is written. The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

  389. because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

  390. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for sinners and recovery

  391. of sight for the blind, and to set the oppressed free, to

  392. proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

  393. Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant,

  394. and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the

  395. synagogue were fasting on him. He began by saying to them,

  396. Today the scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.

  397. What a glorious day would it have been if we had to witness

  398. that when we when the person who are reading it says today it's

  399. being fulfilled because I am the Messiah.

  400. I am the one who prophet Isaiah foretold.

  401. Today, a couple of. Things that we need to set

  402. right. Jesus went to temple every week.

  403. He was in human form and he was God and he chose to go to the

  404. temple every week, to the synagogue every week.

  405. And so today, if you and I have an excuse of not going every

  406. week, I think we need to inculcate a certain kind of

  407. discipline. Jesus knew community was

  408. important. Jesus knew there.

  409. There are so many lessons we can learn between the Year 1 to Year

  410. 30 of. Jesus.

  411. And Jesus knew what he was called for.

  412. He didn't go around trying to freelance and do something else

  413. on the side. You know, he was happy being a

  414. carpenter's son. He was a Carpenter.

  415. So which means he was willing to be in that lane which he had

  416. been assigned to. That was divine submission to

  417. the Father's will. And even as we see this, because

  418. of that divine submission, we see dead text coming to life.

  419. And yet the people missed because they didn't believe.

  420. And today it got me thinking, are we like that where we're

  421. reading the scripture week in, week out where we are not being

  422. encouraged to step up our faith, our faith level hasn't grown or

  423. we're not encouraged to do certain things that Jesus will

  424. because the teaching has stopped having impact.

  425. Rather, we've chosen to be broken hearted.

  426. We've chosen to be dismayed. We've chosen to be, you know,

  427. grumbling, but Jesus is saying here, would you rise up?

  428. Would you rise up? Because if you have the Zoe life

  429. in you, I will set those things right.

  430. I would cause you to move forward.

  431. I want us all to come to a place where we will be able to see the

  432. Scripture. According to Isaiah, this

  433. Scripture was supposed to be fulfilled.

  434. And even he was talking at a time when the Israelites were in

  435. captives. At that time they were under the

  436. Babylonians. There was no real freedom.

  437. When Jesus is reading this, he is also talking in the same

  438. context where they're under the Romans and he says the freedom

  439. that you're seeking for is standing right in front of you.

  440. I am the way I am the. Truth.

  441. I am the life, Jesus was the real Messiah.

  442. And it comes down to us today. Are we able to confess Jesus in

  443. every situation? Because if we don't confess

  444. Jesus. In every situation we will be

  445. unable to see the text come alive.

  446. His word has power. His Word has life.

  447. The Zoe life that we're talking about is causing us always to

  448. believe into eternity. It's into eternity, yes.

  449. Is the pain, hardship real in this physical world?

  450. It is. But Jesus saying, I want you to

  451. rise up, rise up, you know, rise up.

  452. Let dead bones come alive Today Jesus is here as a Zoe life.

  453. He's saying today, have you just buried yourself in a grave?

  454. And you're saying, this is what has been plaguing me, Jesus

  455. saying, I'm willing to breathe my life into you.

  456. Rise. Up, rise up.

  457. Today have you talked is emotional sickness really put

  458. you into a grave? Today is the hardships of life,

  459. the hardship of relationship put you into a grave.

  460. Today has have you gone into seasons where you're like God?

  461. It's it wasn't done my way. And so I don't think I think I'm

  462. done with you Jesus saying, would you come back to me?

  463. Would you believe because I can bring dead things back to life.

  464. I can fulfill the promises that I have given you many a times

  465. you know we're holding on to promises me and my wife have

  466. been you know praying fervently and seeking God for certain

  467. promises and it's been delayed time after again.

  468. But you know, one of the consolation that we have is is

  469. Jesus problem when he decides to fulfill it.

  470. It's not us, it's his problem when he decides to fulfill it's

  471. the the ball is on his court. It's for him because when he

  472. fulfills it, he gets the glory when.

  473. There's a delay in getting fulfilled.

  474. We still keep calling on Him because we have no one else to

  475. go. We have nowhere else to be

  476. rather than His presence, and Jesus is inviting us into the

  477. world of living. In fact, the message when we

  478. read this verse, it says the world of living in John 5 verses

    John 5:24

  479. 24. It's urgent that you listen

  480. carefully to this. Anyone who believes what I'm

  481. seeing right now and aligns himself with the Father who has

  482. in fact put me in charge and at this very moment, the real

  483. lasting life that is no longer condemned to be an outsider.

  484. This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead

  485. to the world of the living today.

  486. God's asking, would you? Move from the world of the dead

  487. to the world of the living. You know, world of the dead is

  488. anxiety is yours. Let's work in, you know,

  489. controlling that let's but when you come into the world of the

  490. living, you say anxiety, you need to bow down to Jesus.

  491. You know, depression, the world will give you a work around

  492. that. But still, everyday when you

  493. choose to show up in God's presence, you're saying I'm

  494. coming back to the world of the living, which is everything

  495. comes in submission to God. When you have hurt and, you

  496. know, shame and guilt and so many other things that are

  497. associated, you rise up from the world of the dead and you come

  498. to a place saying Jesus, everything bows out.

  499. Yeah, I was bullied as a kid. Even as I grow old, I have

  500. latent anger issues. I am, I, I, I don't like the

  501. fact that people are calling me names.

  502. People are shaming me by my colour.

  503. People look at me differently, but God, that's the world of the

  504. dead. You don't look at me like that.

  505. You look at me differently and I'm coming back to the world of

  506. living. Bring every captive thought into

  507. submission of Jesus into submission of Jesus.

  508. In Romans chapter 10 verses 8 to 11, it says, but what does it

    Romans 10:8–11

  509. say? The word is near you.

  510. It is in your mouth and in your heart.

  511. That is the message concerning faith that we proclaim.

  512. If you declare with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in

  513. your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be

  514. saved. For it is with your heart that

  515. you believe and are justified, and it was your mouth that you

  516. profess your faith and are saved.

  517. As Scripture says, anyone who believes in him will never be

  518. put to shame. Today, as much as we declare

  519. with our mouth and believe with our heart, we need to invite

  520. every problem and say it submits to Jesus, which means we are not

  521. residing in the world of the dead.

  522. We are deciding the world of living.

  523. We are not going to create an atmosphere where we control the

  524. whole thing, but rather say God, This is something that's been

  525. really, you know, I've been carrying this baggage.

  526. I bring it at your feet, whatever the lack everything

  527. looks like because I'm choosing to follow this life, this if one

  528. not physical but also of spiritual.

  529. Suddenly perspectives change entirely.

  530. Suddenly in an area where I would have had severe

  531. discontentment. I'm happily content with what

  532. God is doing in my life at this point, but suddenly I'm not

  533. having these unearthly pursuits of actually doing much more just

  534. for my personal gain, to edify my own name, my own cravings.

  535. No, suddenly I'm able to understand that the fulfilled

  536. life comes because in the world of living, I'm able to be

  537. content in my marriage with the spouse that he's given.

  538. I'm able to shoulder the responsibility that he's given

  539. with regard to my children, handle everyone that's around me

  540. because this is what God's called me to do.

  541. So today, what is it looking like for you?

  542. Probably you're. Saying you know what, I have too

  543. many dead situations in my life, too many dead areas in my life

  544. where I don't see life. Jesus is willing to speak life

  545. in. Jesus is willing to breathe life

  546. in. Jesus is willing to say allow me

  547. to come in because it's when he allows that suddenly you won't

  548. say, you know what? This caused me to not fulfill

  549. God's will be like. In spite of this, I was able to

  550. fulfill God's will because fulfillment will come in.

  551. We allow the Zoe life to move us from a place of seeing dead

  552. things come to life. Suddenly those promises God gave

  553. you 10 years back will come to life because you've come

  554. confessed with your mouth and you believed with your heart and

  555. you said, God, I'm sorry that I just had an expiration date on

  556. your promise. Rather, I'm willing to trust

  557. with it. Even if it doesn't happen, I

  558. will still close my eyes knowing that I'm living my life fully so

  559. that when I see you, I will be. There'll be no regret.

  560. So even as we live this whole life, maybe come to a place

  561. where we say, Lord, I want all the dead things come a life.

  562. I want freedom. Lord Jesus, for too long I've

  563. given my addictions the final say.

  564. I've gone back time and again. Guilt, shame has driven Jesus,

  565. Say, I can give life, I can give life.

  566. Would you come to me? Would you come to me?

  567. I would give life to you. Would you submit?

  568. Confess with your mouth, confess.

  569. And so today, I don't know, for many a times you might be like,

  570. you know what, every Sunday it feels like I'm hitting a hard

  571. reset. But Jesus is saying, come

  572. expectant, listen, do what the word of God says, ask Jesus,

  573. Jesus, tell me what to do, tell me what to do.

  574. And when you allow him, he'll take you to a place where he'll

  575. cause you to do it step by step, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

  576. And when you come back into the community of believers on the

  577. next Sunday, you'll be able to do this, be encouraged to go

  578. back and pursue it even harder because God wants us to see us

  579. serious about the decision that we've taken to follow him, to

  580. believe in him. So today it says anyone who

  581. believes in Jesus 100% trust. 100% trust means there's no

  582. trust in anyone else. There's no person in my speed.

  583. There's no one else. I can say you know what I'm

  584. going to go back to? But to say Jesus, I'm only you,

  585. only you. You are my lifeline.

  586. You are my lifeline. The third thing that we see is

  587. with this Zoe life, there's constant momentum.

  588. This constant momentum because the Spirit is moving in and

  589. through US. You know, one of the beautiful

  590. things about the Trinity is we see the Father, Son and the

  591. Spirit even when Jesus came into this world.

  592. When he got baptized, we see that the Spirit descended upon

  593. him. Jesus was filled with the Spirit

  594. and today what did Jesus do when he was here on this earth, when

  595. he ascended up to saying, the Spirit will come upon you.

  596. And so even as we celebrate the day of Pentecost when the Holy

  597. Spirit came and today, that's why we all are moving across the

  598. world through the help of his Holy Spirit.

  599. We see that when the Holy Spirit is residing, when we have this

  600. Zoe life as our focus, there's. Always a constant momentum.

  601. What do you mean by constant momentum?

  602. Which means there's a steady speed in which he's causing us

  603. to move. This constant momentum.

  604. There's something that he's putting on our hearts.

  605. There's something that he's placing on our hearts.

  606. There's something that he's saying, I want to move in this

  607. direction. I want you to move in this

  608. direction. Romans 8 versus 5 to 11.

  609. This is what it says. Those who live according to the

  610. flesh have their mindset on the flesh desires, but those who

  611. live in accordance with the Spirit have their mindset on.

  612. What Spirit desires? The mind is governed by the

  613. flesh, which is death. But this mind governed by the

  614. Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh

  615. is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law,

  616. nor can it. Do so those.

  617. Who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

  618. So today we can say we have this Zoe life.

  619. We can profess and say, Lord, I am on your side.

  620. I am. I'm submitting to you.

  621. But here, where are our desires coming from?

  622. Is it still coming from our flesh or is it coming from our

  623. spirit? Because today we need to allow

  624. the Holy Spirit to rewrite a lot of our desires.

  625. A lot of our desires are very short lived.

  626. It's very, you know it, it has an expiration date.

  627. Like every time there's a new announcement of a new tech

  628. gadget, you might see it. Until you get your hands on it.

  629. And after you get your hands on it, you're aspiring for

  630. something more. Or probably you wanted that

  631. raise. You got that raise, but your

  632. heart's not content. And so you suddenly realize to

  633. live the Zoe life, you need spirit desires, not flesh

  634. desires. So what today is your spirit

  635. desiring? What is it that your spirit is

  636. designed? Because what your spirit desires

  637. will cause you to have that momentum.

  638. You will move towards that. What is this, Zoe?

  639. Life will give you a constant momentum so that in your, when

  640. you've accepted God in your 30s and you're pursuing him in your

  641. 30s, in your 40s, you will still have that momentum.

  642. In your 50s, you will still have that momentum.

  643. It's interesting. A lot of the single people you

  644. know who've been in church, who've served God when they had

  645. their time and their, their availability.

  646. The minute they get married, they say they don't have time,

  647. they don't have availability. They're not available because

  648. they're married, but they fail to understand that it's in

  649. marriage that when both of them come into alignment and when

  650. they are submitted to God's will and together, when their

  651. marriage is having Jesus at the center, the desires of the

  652. Spirit are being birthed in them.

  653. They both will serve to God with double the capacity in a

  654. constant momentum. And so today I want to challenge

  655. you, church. Today, we are called to desire

  656. through the Spirit so that we'll have constant momentum in our

  657. life. I don't want to be known.

  658. You know what? Geshom did so much in his 20s

  659. and 30s, but in his 40s and 50s, he's faded away.

  660. In his 60s, he's given up on faith.

  661. I don't want that to be. I would rather say it is a

  662. constant momentum. 20s he did this. 30s he did this. 40s he's

  663. doing this. 50s he will do this, sixty he will do this 70.

  664. I can't wait to do what he has in store.

  665. That has to be and that has a birthing place.

  666. Only when our flesh desires are burnt and our spirit desires

  667. are. Awakened.

  668. We constantly keep killing our fleshly desires and we

  669. constantly love the Holy Spirit to fan into flame and that's

  670. what he says in second Timothy chapter 1.

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  671. He tells Paul tells Timothy, for this reason I remind you to fan

  672. into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the

  673. laying of your laying of my. Hands.

  674. For the Spirit. Of God gave us does not make us

  675. timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

  676. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of

  677. me his prisoner. Rather, join me in suffering for

  678. the gospel. By the power of God He has saved

  679. us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have

  680. done, but because of His own purpose and grace.

  681. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the

  682. beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the

  683. appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death

  684. and now brought life and immortality to light through the

  685. Gospel. So even as I said today, when we

  686. kill our fleshly desires, when we fan, when the Holy Spirit

  687. fans into flame our spirit filled desires, we suddenly have

  688. a constant momentum in this Zoe life that he's calling.

  689. Our physical and our spiritual life sees a match.

  690. We are moving in constant momentum.

  691. There's so many things he's calling us to.

  692. And the problem is today we want a Spotify Warped, an Apple Music

  693. warped, a YouTube Warped kind of page to show us what we've

  694. achieved for the year. Honestly, that scares me because

  695. what we've achieved for the year can be really insignificant.

  696. You know, when you look at Spotify Warped, it shows us what

  697. are we've listened, how many minutes we've listened.

  698. But it causes me to think, Lord, have I been really giving into

  699. your spiritual desires or I've been giving into my fleshly

  700. desires because the constant momentum has been more towards

  701. my fleshly desires rather than the spirit filled desires.

  702. So today I want to ask us, because when He fans our spirit

  703. filled desires, what does it do? It does not make us timid.

  704. It does not make us have less faith, but rather become people

  705. of power, love and self-discipline.

  706. What is self-discipline? We won't overindulge suddenly

  707. money. We will know how much is enough,

  708. suddenly fame. We will know what is needed.

  709. We suddenly will know what kind of influence we need to have.

  710. We would make faithful steps. How many of us today can look

  711. back and say this? 2024 has been a year where I

  712. didn't take a step of faith. I've been stagnant in that same

  713. place. I've allowed fear to grip me.

  714. I've allowed situations to just hold me down.

  715. The Spirit is God should fan into flame.

  716. If you look into the Advent story, everything had a faith

  717. step. Everything had a faith step.

  718. The revelation of Jesus was not evident, but for that to become

  719. evident, everything involved a faith step.

  720. So today, if you and I are called into that faith step, can

  721. we do it with the help of the Holy Spirit?

  722. Joseph had a faith step. Mary had a faith step.

  723. The shepherds had a faith step. The minute the this, the word

  724. came to them. They ran, they went.

  725. To see it being fulfilled, the. Wise men of all those who were

  726. learned, those who were logical. When they saw the star, they

  727. moved. They moved from the East.

  728. It might have looked ridiculous, but they moved trusting

  729. something is happening, fulfillment is happening and we

  730. need to be there. Where is our desires leading us?

  731. Because when we receive Jesus, we just don't receive a

  732. complacent, a stagnant or you know what, whatever attitude,

  733. but rather we receive the Zoe life, which says, God, help me

  734. to do all that you've put in me to do.

  735. The Spirit will move us to fulfill the Great Commission or

  736. the call of God on our eyes. Everyone of us have a Great

  737. Commission call on our lives. We do not have to go out there

  738. to a remote place. You don't have to go to a

  739. mission field. Know wherever you're at.

  740. That's where he wants to fan into flame.

  741. A lot of us are looking for that big mission field thinking and

  742. to put that photo to say, you know what?

  743. I'm doing missions. No, do it in the place where

  744. you're at. Because if you can't do it at a

  745. place where you're at, you won't sustain.

  746. Wherever he takes you, you can go to all those places.

  747. It will fade away. It won't make sense.

  748. We need to go to the next cubicle.

  749. We might need to go to the next store.

  750. We might need to ask the next person, we might need to have an

  751. intentional conversation with the person that we regularly are

  752. buying things with our ironing guy, with the with the maids

  753. that we work around us with, the people who help with our

  754. housekeeping, whoever it is, am I just keeping it to myself or

  755. am I really being moved to do what God's calling me to do?

  756. You know, I was just. Spending some time reading upon

  757. George Stott and he was this British Protestant Christian

  758. missionary who went to China. He was part of CIM, which is the

  759. China Inland Mission. And he was recruited by Hudson

  760. Taylor. And you know, he, in fact he and

  761. his wife, they went to this province which they say this

  762. Venzo province where they say became nearly 10% Christians in

  763. China. They say that because of him and

  764. his wife going there and establishing he with another

  765. friend, as a result of the starts and the work that they

  766. did in North China, it became known as Jerusalem of the East.

  767. Because in the entire Wenzhou municipality, which has

  768. 6,000,000 inhabitants, there are more than 600,000 evangelical

  769. Protestants, 10% of the population.

  770. And it's interesting, the wife talks about how he came into

  771. faith and you know, how he didn't allow life, not the world

  772. of the dead, but the world of the living, to dictate what he

  773. had to do. It says this in a small excerpt

  774. where she wrote about his early life.

  775. It said Mr. Stott had been brought up in a farm work, but

  776. when he was about 19 years he slipped on the road and knocked

  777. his knee against a stone. This simple accident resulted in

  778. white swelling, which two years later needed them to amputate

  779. his leg. Nine months later he was

  780. helpless, he was an invalid and was during this time that God

  781. really worked on his heart and he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord

  782. and personal Savior. And after his recovery, he began

  783. to teach in a school. He was employed for several

  784. years. And when he heard about the

  785. needs of China through a friend, he signed up to go.

  786. And so at that time, when they were recruiting for people to go

  787. as missionaries, they thought. Hudson Taylor was actually

  788. making a mistake because he was a person with an amputee.

  789. You know, he he had another leg which was not functioning.

  790. People asked him why are you going?

  791. Why are you going? Why are you making this effort

  792. to go? And he said the statement, I do

  793. not see those with two legs going, so I must.

  794. I do not see those with two legs going, so I must the Spirit.

  795. Fans into flame. The beautiful thing about his

  796. Zoe life is he later when you read his life, he got cancer, he

  797. came back to Scotland, he died, but then the wife, there was an

  798. uprising that happened in China. Then his wife went back there

  799. for the next 20 years. Continue to the mission.

  800. And the reason why I'm telling you this story is a lot of us

  801. have to rewrite our family vision board.

  802. A lot of us have to rewrite our family mission mode.

  803. Fathers and mothers, I want to challenge you.

  804. Would you allow your children to live the life God's calling them

  805. to live? Don't put your burdens on them.

  806. Don't put your heart takes on them.

  807. Don't put your understanding of the world on them.

  808. Let them live out the life God's calling them to live as parents,

  809. as people who are living to live his call.

  810. Maybe live in truth and in clarity, not with fleshly

  811. desires, but with spiritful desires.

  812. So even as I conclude, I just want to conclude by saying that

  813. this Zoe life that you're called to live will be 1 of submission.

  814. That we won't stand out and say, God do it like how I would like

  815. it, but God in submission, I want to see you work because I

  816. know whatever you do, you'll do it with great things in store

  817. for me, which I can't even imagine.

  818. And that we'll be on God's side no matter what.

  819. That we would allow his word and things that are dead in our life

  820. to come to life because we trust him.

  821. We wouldn't just put ourselves down in graves and say, God, I'm

  822. done here. No, but we would rise up because

  823. the Zoe, life gives life. Men can pull you down.

  824. People can put you in that grave.

  825. Circumstances can make you feel like you're in a grave with a

  826. tombstone. But God saying, no, I have life,

  827. I'm not done with you yet. And the third thing is this,

  828. Zoe, life causes momentum, which causes you because the Spirit is

  829. moving in and through you, which means he has to fan into flame,

  830. which means that it just doesn't stop with me.

  831. When I get married, we as a couple are in mission.

  832. When we have a family, we as a family are in mission to doing

  833. all that He's called us to do so that we'll be able to see His

  834. Kingdom come and His will be done.

  835. So even as I conclude with this last thing I started by saying

  836. what is it the world is saying pop culture saying with living

  837. this best life yet living this best life is only about the

  838. physical life. This it's very limited to

  839. physical. But when we look at Jesus

  840. through Jesus way. It's the Zoe life which is not

  841. just physical but also spiritual, which means we are

  842. not in control, but whether we are in his control.

  843. Jesus control. We don't rely on our power

  844. because our power is limiting. We rely on his power which is

  845. all-encompassing, which he moves in and through us.

  846. We are just not our own being. We just don't create

  847. environments for ourselves, but we allow him to create

  848. everything because we are his being.

  849. We move into the places which he's called because he controls

  850. everything. So Church, even as we have seen

  851. this, I pray that it'll take life in you.

  852. I pray that you won't give up on this Zoe life that he has for

  853. you. You won't discount what he wants

  854. to do with you in your spiritual life and in through eternity

  855. because eternity is the goal, the Zoe life, eternity is the

  856. goal. And I pray that you'll be able

  857. to see it happen in your own life.

  858. So can we pray our loving heavenly Father, Lord, we thank

  859. you, Lord, for this time. Thank you for all that you've

  860. been doing. Lord Jesus, you have been good,

  861. you are good. And I pray even right now, Lord

  862. Jesus, that Lord, we won't be so content with our physical life,

  863. but we'll move into the Zoe life of seeing your Kingdom come.

  864. Your will be done in a physical life, in a spiritual life so

  865. that our eternity will be 1 where we'll be with you.

  866. Lord Jesus, we don't want to just get past, but we want to do

  867. it well. Lord Jesus, we want to

  868. accomplish the will of God in our lives well so that we'll be

  869. able to give you the glory and honor.

  870. I pray especially. For those, Lord, who've been

  871. struggling to submit to you, Lord Jesus, who've been

  872. struggling to be on your side, that they'll be able to make

  873. that step. Lord, I pray for those who have

  874. been stuck in a position or probably life has treated them

  875. so bad that they they feel like they are in a grave.

  876. I pray Lord that your life would come in right now and resurrect

  877. them. That they will find dead things

  878. is not governing them, but rather your life giving.

  879. Things are starting to take shape in them.

  880. Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, move right now for those who are

  881. listening and watching. I pray even right now, Holy

  882. Spirit, that Lord, those who have been stuck and given up on

  883. your call, that they'll be able to move into a place of momentum

  884. with you, Lord Jesus, constant momentum that Lord, we'll see

  885. you move. Lord, our eyes will be 1 where

  886. we see you move. It'll be one which will be

  887. filled with faith, where we'll be able to say, Lord, you give

  888. me the faith and the strength and the encouragement to take

  889. this. Lord, we thank you.

  890. Be with us. Go before us.

  891. Lord, strengthen us, take charge.

  892. I pray that, Lord, even as we come into the last couple of

  893. weeks of the year, we'll finish well.

  894. Lord Jesus, that you would reignite the passions.

  895. Lord Jesus, that we'll have a spiritful desire.

  896. Lord, I pray our fleshly desire will submit and yield to you.

  897. Lord, go before us. In your most holy name we pray.

  898. Amen. Amen.

  899. So Church, even as you step out, I pray you have a blessed.
