  1. Hello, a big welcome to the We Are Zion sermon podcast.

  2. We are a church based out of Chennai, India.

  3. We are thrilled that you tuned in today and hope that you will

  4. be refreshed, revived, and energized by what you hear.

  5. Our desire is that you will live life with a renewed sense of

  6. purpose that stems from a vibrant faith in Jesus.

  7. The year 2025 is 1 where we will be positioned by God to possess

  8. our promise. As you listen in to today's

  9. sermon, Carefully Curated Promises Part 2, we look closer

  10. at God who is the one who stands guarantee over our promises and

  11. carries them through to completion.

  12. We hope that your heart is stirred up with the renewed

  13. trust in God for the year ahead. Hi church, this is joy and a

  14. privilege to be bringing God's word to you.

  15. I consider an honor and even right now as we get into God's

  16. word we're going to look into the second part of the series

  17. that we've started carefully curated promises.

  18. It goes in line with our years theme, which is position to

  19. possess the promise and even before I start.

  20. I just want to say that as we have seen the theme as you

  21. started this year, we are bang in the middle of the month.

  22. And I don't know, for a lot of us it can be like you're back to

  23. the routine of life. You know, especially for those

  24. of us who are in India, this particular time this season is

  25. hectic because kids exams come, kids are going to graduate from

  26. one year to another year in the next couple of months.

  27. And so everything is geared towards that.

  28. For those who are running businesses, this is the closing

  29. of the financial year, the last quarter.

  30. And so there's a lot of pressure around that.

  31. But as we've started a new year and as we've been positioning

  32. ourselves to say, God, what is the promise that you have for

  33. me? And as we heard last week, you

  34. know, to be in this place to understand what God has because

  35. he's carefully nitpicking promises for each and everyone

  36. of us. We saw last week that your

  37. promise and my promise will be entirely different.

  38. Yes, the overarching image of what God wants to see happen is

  39. he wants to see all his children get saved.

  40. But he's also placed us pivotally in different places to

  41. achieve certain promises, not just for ourselves.

  42. But for the. Generations to come in.

  43. So even as we meditate on that, I just thought it'll be good for

  44. us to visit the verse that we saw starting of the year so that

  45. that kind of aligns us to where God is wanting us to see.

  46. Hebrews chapter 6, verses 11 to 12, reading from the NIV and

    Hebrews 6:11–12

  47. this is what it says, verse 11. We want each of you to show the

  48. same diligence to the very end so that what you hope for may be

  49. fully realized. We do not want you to become

  50. lazy, but imitate. Those who through.

  51. Faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

  52. And as I heard last week as Tina was speaking, a couple of the

  53. things that we saw was we need to leave behind what God asks us

  54. to leave behind. We need to go where God leads us

  55. and we need to let God bring the blessing.

  56. And I think this comes to a place where when we are being

  57. positioned to possess the promise, it's all God.

  58. God is calling us to rise up. God is calling us to break the

  59. cycle. God is calling us to change what

  60. has been passed down through generations in God is causing us

  61. to rise up and say, Hey, I'm calling you to your promised

  62. land and what does that look like?

  63. Probably you, you we've all had certain baggages that we come

  64. with in life when we bring when we grow up and we do life in

  65. general, You know, there is a lot of baggage that we carry and

  66. along the way those kind of dictate where we are heading.

  67. But God, the minute we accept Jesus Christ into our lives, the

  68. minute we allow Jesus to be Lord and Savior, we are giving even

  69. those baggages, you know, the same privileges of being under

  70. the Lordship of Jesus. And what does that mean?

  71. God says, hey, these are things that are slowing you down.

  72. These are things that won't take you to where I'm calling you to

  73. be. If you want to enjoy a life of

  74. freedom, these things that you've picked up along the way,

  75. certain addictions, certain dependencies, certain triggers,

  76. certain comfort zones aren't, you know, in alignment with.

  77. What I have for you. And so today as we look into

  78. this, the second part we're going to be.

  79. Specifically looking back into Abraham's life and we're going

  80. to be seeing specifically from the book of Genesis chapter 15

    Genesis 15 chapter mention

  81. because I believe that's where God wants us to meditate.

  82. But I just wanted to go back to Genesis chapter 12, verse 4, as

    Genesis 12:4

  83. we saw last week and read this one thing it says in Genesis 12,

    Genesis 12:4

  84. verse 4. So Abraham went as the Lord had

  85. told him. And what was the promise that

  86. God had given Abraham? This is, mind you, this is right

  87. when he's been asked to leave from his hometown, from

  88. everything that's familiar. And the promise that was given

  89. to him is right before these two verses.

  90. It says I will make you into a great nation and I will bless

  91. you. I will make your name great and

  92. you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you

  93. and who are curses. You I will curse and all the

  94. peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

  95. And the reason why I'm going back to this is this is what

  96. caused him to get up and leave. This is what caused him to say

  97. God, I'm obeying you, He. And his entire household got up

  98. and left. And we saw time and again

  99. certain instances from last week.

  100. We saw where God was leading him in that journey, where God went

  101. in the forefront, where God said he will bless, but God said He

  102. will take care of things. And as we step into the second

  103. part, I want us to come to a place where God is asking us,

  104. Will you? Take hold of this curated

  105. promise that I have for you. And there are three things which

  106. I want us to draw our attention to from Genesis chapter 15.

    Genesis 15 chapter mention

  107. And the first thing that I want us to draw our attention with

  108. these carefully curated promises are secured by a covenant.

  109. Yes, the promise is there, but there's a certain sense of

  110. security. That we need and that security.

  111. Comes with a covenant that God wants to have with us.

  112. And so even as you look into Abraham's life, I believe those

  113. of us who have already been on this Christian journey, probably

  114. it's been five years, 10 years, 15 years, and you've been like

  115. God. There was this promise that you

  116. gave me, but I didn't see it happen.

  117. God is saying I am. Still working in you and will

  118. bring it to pass. The time when Abraham got that

  119. was probably 2025 years back, and the time when he's getting

  120. this covenantal promise again is 25 years later.

  121. And God kind of is journeying along to see, is he really going

  122. to? Because the task that is

  123. assigned for Abraham is far bigger.

  124. And I believe that God's also calling us to say that the task

  125. that is assigned for each and every one of us is far bigger

  126. than what we can imagine. A lot of us have such an

  127. overview of life, where we are. Thinking, you know what, if I

  128. can do this, If I can be in this job, if I can get this house, if

  129. I can get this car, if I can have a certain level of income,

  130. I think we are set for life. But God is.

  131. Calling you I want you to live in the promise that I have set

  132. out for you. This word of the Lord comes

  133. right after he rescues Lot. He meets with the king of Salem

  134. Melchizedek and he walks away saying I don't want anything.

  135. Just pay the people who came with me.

  136. They are dues and he walks away. So I just want to take our

  137. reference Rick. Why is this covenant important

  138. is because in Genesis 15 verse one, this is what God tells

  139. Abraham. He says after this the word of

  140. the Lord came to Abraham in a vision.

  141. Do not be afraid Abraham, I am your shield, your very great

  142. reward. What an honor it is for Abraham

  143. to hear from God himself to say that I am your shield.

  144. You know, for a lot of us, who've and which means.

  145. When God is a shield, he comes in between US and the enemy.

  146. He comes between US and whatever the enemy is trying to take us

  147. out, you know, be it an arrow, be it, you know, the culture, be

  148. it the, the negativity, whatever that is going to discourage us

  149. and cause us to take a step back.

  150. God is telling him I am your. Shield and so today.

  151. You and I need to come to a place of coming to a place of

  152. saying God, I want you to be my shield.

  153. And how did Abraham come to this place?

  154. Abraham came to this place because not because of the

  155. blessings that he had. He came to a fervent

  156. understanding that God is enough for me.

  157. His God is enough. He he came to a place where he

  158. could boldly tell a king, you can't buy me out.

  159. He came to a place where he could stand up and tell the

  160. people around that this is my God.

  161. He came to a place where he had his entire household believe

  162. that this is the God who's called us because in those in

  163. that 20 years, he said, I'll make you into a great nation.

  164. And you know, he, he saw God flourish him.

  165. But it is in that where he gets to get an affirmation from God

  166. saying, God says, I will be your shield.

  167. I will be your reward. Two things.

  168. He's the one who will protect. He's the one who will grow it.

  169. And so today both when we say reward, it's more like literal

  170. wages which people give, but in God's eyes, he says for your

  171. righteousness, for your obedience, I will bless you.

  172. Why does God start this chapter with his encouragement to

  173. Abraham? It's very important because

  174. Abraham is just he's he's done everything out of obedience.

  175. But probably there's a he's going through some kind of a

  176. discouragement himself. He probably is thinking, God, I

  177. everything is good. I went and rescued my nephew.

  178. I went and did all this God. But but beyond me, who's there

  179. to take care of all these people?

  180. Beyond me, who's there to take, take this forward?

  181. Because even though he knew that God will make him into a great

  182. nation, he probably thought the nation is getting formed. 300

  183. people, 350 people for a nomad who's moving from place to place

  184. is a good enough number now, even with a victory under their

  185. belt. It shows that they are strong.

  186. It shows that they have a certain capacity that they can

  187. protect themselves. But I think he felt God.

  188. I still don't have my own. I still don't have my own.

  189. And I believe that is where God needs Abraham.

  190. And this is some of the deepest emotions.

  191. And today probably you and I are seated in a place where you're

  192. like God. I thought all I thought of the

  193. promises that you've told me, but they don't look like what I

  194. wanted. They don't match what you've

  195. told me. Yes, there is blessing that my,

  196. my, my cup is running over. There's been, there's been the

  197. blessing of our finances. There's been the blessing

  198. materialistically, but there's still this deep promise that I

  199. want to see happen. And God saying, yes, that

  200. curated promise will happen. But I also want you to know,

  201. would you be ready to just give me all the glory?

  202. Would you be ready to tell anyone and everyone who comes

  203. along, I don't need it from you? God is enough.

  204. He's blessed me. He is my portion.

  205. And Abraham does these three things in this chapter 15, which

  206. I think will be pivotal. For us to take the next step of

  207. faith in getting our promises and taking possession over them,

  208. the first thing that Abraham did is he believed in God.

  209. Alone. Genesis chapter 15 verses 2 to

    Genesis 15:2

  210. six, it says, But Abraham said, Sovereign Lord, what can you

  211. give me, since I remained childless?

  212. And the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus.

  213. And Abraham said, you have given me no children, so a servant in

  214. my household will be my heir. And the word of the Lord came to

  215. him. This man will not be your heir,

  216. but a son who is of your own flesh and blood will be your

  217. heir. He took him outside and said,

  218. look up at the sky and count the scars, if indeed you can count

  219. them. Then he said to him, so shall

  220. your offspring be. Abraham believed the Lord and it

  221. was credited to him as righteousness.

  222. And you might be reading something.

  223. OK Geshom, we all believe in God.

  224. We all believe God, you know. It's this very line, this very

  225. verse, that set him apart. In possessing something that was

  226. far beyond what he could. Imagine this, Imagine here we

  227. see this entire journey. We see him come.

  228. God says he'll be his reward and shield.

  229. But in this head, as Plan B, he's already thought who will

  230. inherit everything. He's already probably started

  231. grooming his chief servant Eliezer into every step of the

  232. way. This is how you should do it,

  233. and this is how I would like things done.

  234. There was a Plan B, but God's coming and saying no, your

  235. promise is coming. Plan B is not what you think it

  236. is. And so today I want us to come

  237. to a place where are we really trusting God In verse 6 says

  238. Abraham believed the Lord. Today we all believe.

  239. Yes, we believe. God can do my miracle, but we

  240. also have a. Plan A, Plan B.

  241. Plan C Plan D Yes, God will do this, but.

  242. I want to also get a confirmation from the medical

  243. doctor to see what are the possibilities you're probably

  244. seeing. You know what, I know God can do

  245. this, but we are also moving to a place of seeing ABC.

  246. OK, probably if I change my form of diet this way and probably

  247. these are the things that cause my issues or probably the if we

  248. move to the next place God. I believe in you, that you will,

  249. you know, uplift our family. But I'm also striving here

  250. trying to do this job and I'm also trying to see if I can do

  251. 3-4 other things so that we can make ends meet.

  252. God is saying will you believe solely in me when Abraham it

  253. says here Abraham believed in Lord is basically he believed in

  254. God alone and no one else. He believed solely in God.

  255. You and I have this big problem today in this day and age where

  256. we have information all over us. We have solutions all over us.

  257. We have machine learning all over us that we can get an

  258. answer tailor made to what we want to hear.

  259. But today God is saying, if you know this is the promise that

  260. I've given you from my word, my word, which will not change,

  261. will you believe in me only? And so today, why am I coming

  262. there? Because today a lot of us have

  263. been stuck at the place where we've received God's

  264. intervention. Today Abraham could have been

  265. content saying that he's been, he left out, God blessed him 20

  266. years good, he's Chieftain, all that.

  267. But the promise was God said he'll give him a child, He'll

  268. give him a child. God wants to work in all the

  269. impossibilities that the world has thrown at us.

  270. And so today, what is it that you've been struggling?

  271. Because today, if you believe, a lot of us are trying to believe

  272. in the system more than God. A lot of us are trying to

  273. believe in the processes more than God.

  274. A lot of us are trying to believe in thinking if I have

  275. the right connections it will all work on believe in God

  276. alone, believe in God alone. God wants us to move to that

  277. place. And why is it so important

  278. Because Abraham took him at his word when it says there that he

  279. will give you children, you can look at the sky and the stars,

  280. will you be able to count it? He said God, if that is your

  281. word, I take you at your word, which means when Abraham said

  282. God, I believe in you. There was not nothing else that

  283. he could believe in. There was no Plan B.

  284. You know, there's the instance when we had gone and I think it

  285. came across as fear. When I think about it now, six

  286. years back when Tina was going through the entire procedure and

  287. things like that, you know, post the, the hospital, the, the

  288. procedure, she came out in the, the next one year as she was in

  289. medication and things like that. I always was in this place.

  290. I I love. The fact that God worked out a

  291. medical, but I also have the belief on the doctor and it came

  292. to a place when after a year when the doctor said even I

  293. don't know. And that's when I knew saying

  294. God, I can only trust you with my wife.

  295. I can only trust you with her, no one else.

  296. And just sitting opposite him and listening to that when he

  297. said I don't know because you're a different case.

  298. All the people that we've treated till now are all either

  299. 55 plus you're the only one who's come to us who's 35 over.

  300. And that's when I realized God. When you're solely taking us on

  301. this journey and when you're giving us a promise and when

  302. you're causing us to move in that direction and you're

  303. calling us to believe, I can have my belief in you only and

  304. nothing else. Today, a lot of us are

  305. struggling to find a promise because our belief is in

  306. different places. We've probably broken it like a

  307. pie chart and we've split it equally across different places,

  308. thinking, you know what, if God doesn't show up, I'll have a.

  309. Backup. If that doesn't happen, I have a

  310. backup for a backup. But God's saying, can we move to

  311. a place of solely depending on God?

  312. Abraham moved by hearing God's words.

  313. So when he left in Genesis 12, he left in obedience to what God

  314. had called him to do. But 20 years later, God is

  315. saying, I am your reward and your shield, which means I'm the

  316. one who will protect. I'm the one who will bless and

  317. this is where God is asking, will you believe me?

  318. A lot of us today are looking for so many ways to be

  319. protected. I was just watching a video clip

  320. of how a lot of these billionaires have so much of

  321. amount being spent on their security because they need to be

  322. protected. You and I today don't have that

  323. kind of a luxury. We can't be worried because our

  324. hope is in Jesus because if anything happens to us, if our

  325. eyes, if we close our eyes here, our eyes open up, our assurances

  326. that we'll be in eternity. And God is saying, can I work

  327. beyond your Plan B, Plan C? Can I be the only one?

  328. God loves that. Just imagine if I'm dating

  329. someone, okay, and if that person is not my everything who

  330. I'm dating and I'm choosing to do my life with and I'm going to

  331. get married to, but I have a Plan B and a plan C.

  332. I'm texting some other girl. I have a plan C also a person of

  333. another person. I'm saying thinking, OK, if this

  334. person doesn't, what kind of relationship will that be?

  335. What kind of a what kind of a place am I taking leading myself

  336. into what to what future am I surrendering myself to?

  337. God is saying, can you have my belief solely in me?

  338. God gives clarity to the promise, and there's the

  339. fulfillment allowing him to see beyond just his promise.

  340. He's saying, I will reward you, I will give you a son, but I'm

  341. also giving you something far bigger than that.

  342. And so today when we believe in God, when we trust him

  343. wholeheartedly, overtime God reveals to us far bigger things,

  344. far bigger things. Just imagine Abraham is standing

  345. there and says that that he made him count.

  346. He said, I will give you a air of your own flesh and blood.

  347. He took him outside. And then he suddenly reveals to

  348. him the mystery of what his lineage is going to look like.

  349. Today, if I believe in God, I want to know what my lineage is

  350. going to look like. What is that so that?

  351. I'll be able to move in that direction, you know.

  352. It's not believing in God after I get the miracle.

  353. It's believing before I even get it.

  354. Here Abraham is believing in God solely 100% before he got it.

  355. He is believing in God even before he can see the tummy of

  356. his own wife increase. He's believing in God before any

  357. trace of the miracle is even coming towards him.

  358. He takes God at his word. And so today I don't know where

  359. you are all at today I want to ask you if you want to be

  360. credited with to God's account and saying this person believed

  361. in me. He's my child.

  362. He believes in me 100%. I have nothing else to do but to

  363. bless him. I have nothing else to do but to

  364. go before him. I have nothing else to do but to

  365. give him a breakthrough. That's where God wants to meet

  366. with us, Galatians chapter 2, verse 16 says.

    Galatians 2:16

  367. Know that a person is not justified by the.

  368. Works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.

  369. So we too have to put our faith in Christ Jesus, that we may be

  370. justified by faith in Christ and not by the works.

  371. Because by the works of. The Lord.

  372. No one will be justified. The New Testament takes it

  373. further. We can do all the right things

  374. we need and yet be far away from God.

  375. We can, we play the instrument, we can show up in church, we can

  376. hold the door, we can serve in any capacity.

  377. We can do ABCD for God and yet be far away because we don't

  378. believe in God, because our doing brings a certain kind of

  379. good for us. It makes us feel good.

  380. But it's in our faith and in believing that we start seeing

  381. God work through US, God work through US.

  382. So the New Testament takes it further and but the basis of it

  383. is faith because. If we don't.

  384. Have that it says when you believe with your heart and you

  385. confess with your mouth that Jesus Lord.

  386. So which means that we need to have 100% belief. 100% belief

  387. means no doubt. 100% belief means there's no more room for

  388. anything to creep in. 100% belief means we are in a tight

  389. knit 100% vacuum, that anything that comes will deflate it,

  390. anything that creeps and will be deflated.

  391. And so today you and me have to move to that place.

  392. Can we seek my belief is solely in you God, so that you will be

  393. my reward. You will be my shield.

  394. And so today, even as we finish the first point, I just want to

  395. ask you, have you made God another section of the pie chart

  396. or have you made him a plan C or a plan D option?

  397. Can we move him to making him our soul person who will trust

  398. and obey? Probably you're still waiting.

  399. God, God, you're probably thinking about so many people

  400. prayed. They said this is going to

  401. happen in my life, but I've been I've been trying to work things

  402. out or for those of you who've been obediently holding on,

  403. you're still having but in the course of time you've you've

  404. read so many things you've participated in so many things

  405. where you have your own reports to say these are not possible.

  406. What is possible? God, God saying everything is

  407. possible by me, but will you trust in Him alone?

  408. The second thing that we see is the inheritance that was given

  409. by God is sealed by sacrifice. Is sealed by sacrifice.

  410. Genesis chapter 15 verses 7 to 10.

    Genesis 15:7–10

  411. He also said to him, I am the Lord who brought you out of oar

  412. of the Chaldeans to give you this land, to take position on

  413. it. But Abraham said, Sovereign

  414. Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?

  415. So the Lord said to him, Bring me out here.

  416. He fur a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with the

  417. dove and a young pigeon. Abraham bought all these to him,

  418. cut them in two, arrange the house opposite each other.

  419. The birds, however, he did not cut in half.

  420. Then birds of the prey came down on the carcasses, but Abraham

  421. drove them away. The reason being when Abraham

  422. left over, he was a nomad. He was a nomad.

  423. In fact, there's a particular verse in Genesis 1413 when a

  424. Lot's servant comes and calls him the the word that he uses.

  425. There is a man who escaped, came and reported this to Abraham.

  426. The Hebrew it says now Abraham was living near the great trees

  427. of memory, the Amorite, a brother of Escol and Anner.

  428. All whom were. Allied with Abraham, so Abraham

  429. was his nomad, was moving from place to place, digging wells,

  430. you know, moving as God directed him, moving in places where God

  431. called him to settle down. And so there's this

  432. understanding that when you are moving in different places, it's

  433. like typically these backpackers, you'll see that

  434. they won't have a house. A lot of them in fact now have

  435. moved to that place where they want to work around the world,

  436. that they are minimalist, they can live with certain things.

  437. They are moving around. They are setting up their

  438. offices and just open their laptop.

  439. They are working remote. And they move around to

  440. different people. So which means there's nothing

  441. permanent for the man. So when God is saying, I'm going

  442. to give you an inheritance, I'm going to give you people beyond

  443. this, which means there there's a place where the people have to

  444. sit. There's a place where people

  445. have to do business as a place, people where people have to

  446. sleep. There's a place where people

  447. have to settle down. And so this inheritance needs a

  448. place. So today for those of us who've

  449. been like nomads, who've been moving around, yes, we moved

  450. around. We moved around from different

  451. place after different place, but God's been faithful.

  452. He's provided, he said, God's also saying I will settle you

  453. down. I will settle you down so that

  454. I'll be able to establish. You.

  455. And what is God telling him that he's saying I will do it.

  456. And can you bring in a sacrifice?

  457. He asks him to bring certain animals and laid at the altar

  458. where he seals it with sacrifice.

  459. What does that mean? Which means there is definitely

  460. an inheritance that Abraham was getting into.

  461. He was moving from being a nomad to becoming a great nation.

  462. He was moving from becoming just a wanderer to becoming a person

  463. who had things, who had lands. And as I had read from Hebrews

  464. 14, verse 13, the word Hebrew, it comes there, which means

  465. nomadic. They were nomads at that point.

  466. When you look at the root word, it goes on to say that they were

  467. considered as nomads by the local people at that time.

  468. And so today we see a couple of things that happened here.

  469. God is saying Abraham is asking God, how will I know that I'll

  470. gain these possessions? God is saying I'll stay true to

  471. my word. And it's interesting that he's

  472. asked for a whole bunch of animals, a heifer, which is

  473. basically a cow that's not yet given birth and it's just three

  474. under three years old. He asks for the doves, He asks

  475. for pigeons, he asks for a goat and a ram.

  476. And as I was just thinking about it, it got me reminded when I

  477. was reading in Leviticus that these were the different

  478. sacrifices that were given for different socio economic groups,

  479. for people who could afford, for those who could afford when they

  480. were coming to offer a sacrifice in the temple, in the altar.

  481. And they they had the capacity and the economic status to

  482. afford for a heefer or a goat or a ram, they could do that.

  483. For those who couldn't, who just had low income wages or they

  484. were part of the lower rung of the socio economic group, they

  485. would give pigeons and doves. And God is setting him up to

  486. realize I'm covering you. I'm setting you up as a nation.

  487. A nation will have people across different socio economic groups.

  488. A nation will have people across different skill set.

  489. God is prophetic with Abraham there.

  490. He's giving him a promise saying they will occupy the land.

  491. They will occupy the land. It's a foretaste of what was to

  492. come and I really want to say that God also is moving forward

  493. to agree that He is in it. The reason why he chose Abraham

  494. was so that the sacrifice of his own son will happen at a point

  495. where He'll redeem the entirety of mankind.

  496. So today Abraham felt dispossessed.

  497. Abraham felt he had nothing for his own.

  498. Yes, there were wells dug. The the evidence of God's

  499. blessing was seen in the people and the things that they had,

  500. but there was no land to say that this is ours.

  501. This is where God is establishing us.

  502. But God gave him and sealed his inheritance, saying I will give

  503. you the land that. You will be able to occupy.

  504. God turns the very nature of what the world sees Him as a

  505. person who has no inheritance to a person who will have

  506. inheritance. To give you this land, to take

  507. possession of it. So today whatever you are

  508. feeling about the promise that God's called you to do will feel

  509. like you don't deserve it. You how will God make it happen?

  510. And that's where God will make it happen.

  511. There is definitely a ceiling that God wants to do with the

  512. inheritance. The ceiling is basically setting

  513. us apart basically to say you can't mingle, You can't, you

  514. can't do things what others are doing.

  515. And suddenly you realize in this Christian walk, when you're

  516. moving towards God, closer to God, obeying what God's calling

  517. you to do, and you believe in Him, certain things start

  518. falling off. Certain habits start falling

  519. off. Certain friends group that you

  520. hang around with change because they are not in.

  521. They're not going to. Lead you towards your promise.

  522. Rather, they might be leading you toward they may be leading

  523. you away and God is moving you towards the promise, but he's

  524. asking you to cast off certain things.

  525. Cast off these things. Suddenly the the the the glamour

  526. of the world changes and the light of Jesus starts taking all

  527. prominence in your life. And so this is where I want us

  528. to come to a place where we come to a place saying will we move

  529. to a place of saying God, I totally surrender.

  530. I'm willing to sacrifice Lord Jesus and I think more and even

  531. as I was meditating on that verse 9 on the different

  532. sacrifices, it covers different areas of our own journey, our

  533. own blessing journey. If you notice, not all of us

  534. start where we can, you know, sacrifice a ram and a goat, but

  535. we all start off somewhere. But as we move, the more we move

  536. closer to God, the greater the sacrifice.

  537. We see fulfilment in the promise that God's calling us to do so.

  538. Today when we are looking into the life of Abraham, we see one

  539. thing very clear. He's willing to lay it all to

  540. get that inheritance. He's willing to lay it all, that

  541. inheritance. God is saying I am serious about

  542. it. Will you be serious about it?

  543. It all trickles down. It's like because he believed in

  544. God, God showed him that he's going to get a son and he's

  545. going to have people as numerous as a stars because he believed

  546. in God Goddessing, I'm going to give you the inheritance that

  547. you want to possess the land which looks physical, but I'm

  548. also here to seal it for you so that no one will be able to take

  549. it from us. God is saying, will you trust me

  550. if I seal this? Will you trust with trust me

  551. with it with your life so that you won't be suddenly find

  552. glamour in some of the promise that you're running after that.

  553. This is why it's so important that as we have this theme that

  554. we all see God saying, God, what is the promise that you have?

  555. For me, my wife has a promise, I have a promise, a marriage has a

  556. promise. But but we will pursue this or

  557. we will run after this. We will move towards you to get

  558. this promise. God wants to see it happen.

  559. Jesus made a covenant with us by dying on the cross so that we

  560. can partake of the promise that is for us.

  561. That is eternal life. But he also said that he's

  562. called us to live life to its fullest here, heaven on earth.

  563. Which means I have to move to a place of seeing God come through

  564. every step of the way. Not just when I feel like it,

  565. but every day I need to see Him come through.

  566. Can I remember His sacrifice every time I take the cup in my

  567. hands? Beautiful aspect of the

  568. sacrifice is what when God asked him to do that is that He laid

  569. his Son and once you hold the cup in our hands, that reminder

  570. that he is called us to this every time we take that cup that

  571. we are his, we are no one else's.

  572. Every time we partake of the cup, you're saying God, we are

  573. yours. There's no one else.

  574. So that's why he said do it as often as you can so that we'll

  575. be reminded who's we are, who's we are because we are his.

  576. If we have to partake on the promise, if our belief is in

  577. God, we are His. There's no doubt.

  578. You can't say I know I do this and we are His alone.

  579. So today can we move to a place of getting an inheritance sealed

  580. by God Himself? The third thing that we see here

  581. is God gives a covenant to Abraham and He secures it.

  582. He secures it. What is the covenant that God

  583. gives? Genesis chapter 15 verses. 12 It

    Genesis 15 chapter mention

  584. goes on to say, as the sun was setting, Abraham fell into a

  585. deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.

  586. When the Lord said to him, no, for certain that for 400 years

  587. your descendants will be strangers in a country not their

  588. own, and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.

  589. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and

  590. afterward they'll come out with great positions.

  591. You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried

  592. at a good old age in the 4th generation.

  593. Your descendants will come back here so, for the sin of the

  594. Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.

  595. When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking

  596. fire pot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the

  597. pieces. On that day the Lord made a

  598. covenant with Abraham and said to your descendants, I will give

  599. this land from the Widi of Egypt to the great river.

  600. The freight is the land of the Canaanites, Kinesites,

  601. Khatomites, Hittites, Pedicites, Raphites, Amorites, Canaanites,

  602. Girgarites and Jebusites. I love this because when God

  603. wants to secure the covenant, covenant.

  604. Which means he's standing as guarantor for the covenant.

  605. He's willing to reveal what is going to happen couple of

  606. generations later. He's revealing what's going to

  607. happen couple of generations later.

  608. So the weight of what we carry is seen today.

  609. You and I are carrying promises and the covenant that is going

  610. to be promised, the covenant that is going to be fulfilled

  611. over yours and mine. Life is for our future

  612. generations. What is our future generations?

  613. The future generations are one with what is God raising us up?

  614. What is God calling us to take? Possession of now so that our

  615. children will know how to take possession of certain things

  616. later in their life. They won't give up and think,

  617. you know what my parents, it didn't make sense to me at all.

  618. Because today, if we don't really believe in God and say

  619. this is what God is calling us to do, our future generations

  620. will have doubts more than ever before.

  621. If God is not a shield and a reward now, and our children

  622. don't see it and don't walk in it, they will not be able to

  623. experience it. And so why is it important is

  624. because when God is wanting to, when God wants to reveal it to

  625. Abraham about what his covenantal blessing is going to

  626. be like, he wants him to realize that it's far bigger than what

  627. he's imagining. The very land that he's wanting

  628. to possess may not happen in his lifetime, but his future

  629. generations are going to come and possess the land.

  630. Yes, we send that. Yes, it's disbelief that yes,

  631. it's hardship that yes, through it all, they will come into

  632. possession of something which is far bigger because God wants to

  633. be glorified. God wants to be glorified.

  634. So today, what does it look like for you and me?

  635. What are some of the things that we failed to see it happen in

  636. our lifetime that God's saying I will make it happen and the IT

  637. comes down to us. What are we prioritizing?

  638. What are we emphasizing on today?

  639. Abraham, we see the future generations will be able to

  640. possess the land because Abraham obeyed God and walked in it.

  641. And every time they referred back to Abraham so that the

  642. future generations be able to walk today.

  643. What are we giving in to that we're seeing God.

  644. I don't think the future generations, they can take care

  645. of themselves. There's a sense of

  646. responsibility that all of us have to carry.

  647. You know, the world talks about climate change, the world talks

  648. about recycling, the world talks about so many things, which is

  649. good because we need to care for the planet that is God-given

  650. mandate, creation. Care is one important thing, but

  651. even the future of where we are headed towards is very

  652. important. What is God calling us?

  653. What is the promise that God's laid on you for you and his

  654. Kingdom? What is God called you to

  655. accomplish? What is God called your marriage

  656. to be set apart, to be accomplishing here on this

  657. earth? He wants you to move into those

  658. spaces so that your future generations are set and they'll

  659. be able to not only enjoy, but they'll be able to live in the

  660. fulfillment because they will have trials and tribulations,

  661. but God will lead them through it because He's already led the

  662. people in the. Past through it this imagine

  663. there were deed was Abraham and Isaac, Isaac had Esau and Jacob

  664. Esau went. His own way of that Jacob, you

  665. know, sought God, found God, met with God and then from him 12

  666. tribes come out and then the the, the nation just grew from

  667. there. God blessed God kept him in.

  668. You know, they were bonded labourers literally in Egypt.

  669. God moved them from slavery and set them free and they go

  670. through the wilderness and as they go on to possess, there's

  671. this journey which they go in not just for themselves, but

  672. they're also taking up for their future.

  673. You will see time and again they are living the gospel out.

  674. They are living their lives out for the future generations.

  675. We today are living it out so that the future generation be

  676. able to hold on to Jesus. So today, what are some of the

  677. things that God wants to move you to so that his promises will

  678. be fulfilled? You'll be able to possess the

  679. land so that you'll be able to have the covenant being secured

  680. by God himself. I love this particular passage

  681. how it concludes because as he is lying there and this is a

  682. vision, it says here he's in a deep sleep and God is doing this

  683. is he sees the supernatural meet the natural right there.

  684. We can the future. You know when we look at it,

  685. there was a time when God walked through the sacrifice that he

  686. had asked to do for people that all the first born were killed

  687. in Egypt, but all those who had marked the blood we see that he

  688. spared them. We see in verse 17 when the sun

  689. had set and the darkness had fallen, a smoky fire pot with

  690. the blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.

  691. I believe it was God moving through the Holy Spirit moving

  692. through in that season, in that in between that sacrifice.

  693. It's that same fire that met Moses and told him that this is

  694. the covenant that I've given. Let my people go.

  695. It was the same fire that caused the people who were crossing the

  696. Red Sea to know that there was a God above, even by night, who's

  697. watching over them, the visibility of God's promise

  698. being taken. It's the same fire that was

  699. present when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were there in an

  700. other foreign land in the midst of trials and tribulations to be

  701. present in between four of them. It's the same fire that came on

  702. the upper room that goes on to say I am with you, the God of

  703. all covenant to secure everything that I've promised

  704. with you. So today, would you allow his

  705. fire to go between the sacrifices that we've done, the

  706. sacrifices that we've done when God is asking us to lay it all

  707. at the altar, he's saying I will quench it.

  708. I, I, I get this visual image. When we believe in God, that's

  709. what will happen. No form of Baal and they are

  710. their works will remain but only God will come.

  711. The all consuming fire will come upon our altar and sacrifice and

  712. take it at all. So today you have to be consumed

  713. by the Holy Spirit to realize this is what God's calling you

  714. Homeophost is just sitting on our promises thinking yeah it'll

  715. come. God's timing is perfect.

  716. The best is yet to come. These are all phrases good.

  717. But have you taken position of it?

  718. Because if you haven't taken position of it.

  719. You are in a pivotal place to ask God, what are you wanting me

  720. to do because it is in your doing that he will reveal what

  721. the next step is. It's in your doing.

  722. It's you're saying God bring the right person to me in my life.

  723. But if you're not able to say God, is this person worth

  724. pursuing. Am I what is this is is the is

  725. this person who you've set for me for my life.

  726. God is asking you all that questions.

  727. Take that step. Find that out.

  728. God wants to move in. And three, if you are not able

  729. to take that bold step of faith, a lot of us have just sat there

  730. saying, yeah, God, you worked last year, this year, I don't

  731. know, I'll just whatever scraps you give, I'm OK.

  732. No, go, go back to God and say God, no, show me, Lord, which is

  733. the step I have to take. Even as we see this fire move

  734. through. It's a divine tool for both

  735. destruction and refinement. And I think it's an illustrating

  736. power of God's holiness and God's power.

  737. God would use fire to remove everything that is causing us to

  738. move away from him or is causing us as a stronghold.

  739. But at the same time, God's also using the fire to set us to a

  740. place of refinement. And saying this is solely

  741. whatever is remaining is because we've been through the fire,

  742. we've held on to him, we've been through it, we've seen him come

  743. through. So today, May God allow us to

  744. move from just becoming a person who's operating in the natural

  745. and seeing things in the natural to start seeing things in the

  746. supernatural. I strongly believe, church,

  747. we're entering into a season where God wants us to start

  748. seeing things in the supernatural.

  749. Because if we don't see things in the supernatural, if we don't

  750. ask God for the deeper things, we will not be able to run our

  751. race with weaker. We won't be able to run our race

  752. with purpose. We won't be able to run our race

  753. with strength. We would be weak.

  754. We would give up every there'll be exhaustion at every turn.

  755. God is wanting us to have that strength to run through the

  756. strength which Caleb had at 80 to say I will go conquer that

  757. land. We are not done yet.

  758. We are not done yet. So today as Abraham received

  759. this, he believed in God said ask and encourage you if those

  760. of you who had planned these move back to God, confess the

  761. cross is the place where we can repent and say God, I'm sorry

  762. I've had other options, but today I'm solely dependent on

  763. you. You are my everything.

  764. Can we move to a place of saying God, my inheritance?

  765. So far, Lord has been something which I've been striving for

  766. about God, saying I am your inheritance and I'm here to give

  767. it to you. Can you lay everything at the

  768. altar? Can you lay everything at the

  769. altar? And the third is God is saying,

  770. I'm wanting to work beyond. I'm wanting to work beyond your

  771. generation. I'm wanting to see things done

  772. in a covenantal way where I'm willing to stand.

  773. As a security for that so that I'll be able to see it come

  774. through in your life and church, I just want to encourage you,

  775. don't give up. This is just the start.

  776. Your miracle is on the way. Your promise is on the way.

  777. Your It'll come only when you allow the miracle worker to work

  778. in and through you, the promise keeper to work through you.

  779. Abraham to wait for a certain period before God tests us.

  780. Is this person really worth me giving the promise?

  781. Otherwise, we receive the promise and we don't know how to

  782. handle it. Well, we don't.

  783. Our love for the promise will be so much that our love for God

  784. starts taking a different turn altogether.

  785. Move. Let us move to a place of

  786. surrendering to God wholeheartedly.

  787. Can I pray? For you, loving heavenly Father,

  788. Lord, we thank you, Lord, for this time.

  789. I pray that Lord, even as you heard this, these won't be

  790. things, Lord, that we'll just go pass by like another week, but

  791. these will be things that we'll be able to say, Lord, we want

  792. you to work in and through US. Lord, we come back to you.

  793. Lord, you are our reward. You are our shield and we

  794. believe in you, Lord. We believe, Lord Jesus, the

  795. inheritance that you've kept for us, We, we move to a place of

  796. the altar where we laid at the altar and say, Lord, you, here's

  797. everything that we have. We laid that you consume it,

  798. Lord. And I pray, Holy Spirit, that

  799. you would move through our sacrifice, that you would refine

  800. us, that you will shape us. Lord Jesus, you will cause us

  801. what to be. I pray that every doubt and fear

  802. will be extinguished because of your refining right now.

  803. Lord Jesus, I pray those steps that you're struggling to take,

  804. that we'll be able to take because we're surrendering to

  805. you that areas that we are unable to let go, we'll let go

  806. and surrender and hold on to you alone.

  807. You are enough for us. Lord Jesus, I pray we'll see you

  808. move through. Lord Jesus.

  809. Lord, you who moved through a through that pillar of fire,

  810. would you move into our hearts today, into our homes today,

  811. into our offices today, into our spaces today where Lord we are

  812. struggling that you would move. Quench everything that is not of

  813. you, Lord Jesus, quench everything that is not of you.

  814. I pray that Lord, those mobile phones go in and quench.

  815. Lord Jesus, are spaces where we are desecrating, that you would

  816. go in and quench places where we have not far to allow too many

  817. things or to take hold. Go and quench it, Lord Jesus,

  818. that we will receive your covenantal blessing.

  819. Lord Jesus, today for our future generations, I pray, Lord,

  820. people will take possession of the promise not just for

  821. themselves, but for the years for the generations to come,

  822. Lord, they will be able to see into their children's children,

  823. Lord Jesus, into that, Lord Jesus, I pray we as a church

  824. will rise up to that place where we will see the church for that,

  825. Lord Jesus, for what is for the future generations to come.

  826. What are we building on, Lord Jesus?

  827. That we will be united in our differences.

  828. We will be united, Lord, we will see that come through.

  829. Lord Jesus, go before us, be with us.

  830. I pray that Lord, your presence is what we desire for Lord,

  831. every step of the way, Your most holy name we pray, Amen.

  832. Amen. So Church, even as we heard, I

  833. pray that you will hold on to God because these are important

  834. things. These are critical decisions

  835. that we can't just make overnight.

  836. These are things which you're going to allow to soak in.

  837. See God. I pray that you will see God

  838. because when God directs us into a particular direction, we get

  839. to see only small glimpses, but those glimpses are enough for us

  840. to start the journey. So today I pray that you'll be

  841. able to make those faith steps across the way and see a miracle

  842. come through. God bless you all and have a.
