Let's give them a hand too.

Thank you for leading.

Takes a gift to lead the service like that and uh to lead in the presence.

Um, thank God for all the the minstrels, all the musicians, and all the leaders that we have.

Uh, today I want to uh talk to you about a long-term generational mindset.

And this is uh the long-term legacy mindset.

We're entering into this giving season and we give uh into the future.

Our giving is like seed, that we're seeding into the harvest of the future.

And how many of you know that God is a generational God?

He's a generational God.

God doesn't just think about the present, he thinks about the generations.

He cares about you, but he doesn't just care about you, he cares about your kids, and he cares about your kids' kids and your kids' kids' kids.

One of the models of Israel was that he said, I'm gonna have a covenant that I'm gonna actually look at you and I'm gonna look out for you from now into the future, like I'm gonna care for you as a parent ought to be caring for their child.

Set that example, set that model that says, I'm not gonna just look out for you now, I'm gonna look out for you even for your future.

And when we stop living for the moment in our life, we start to think through, we start to think of different generations, we start to think of my life, my children, my children's children.

We build a legacy that outlives ourselves and unleashes exponential impact into the kingdom.

When you're thinking about the future, you know, my life is limited, but my life represented in my kids and my kids' kids is gonna be so much more exponential in terms of the impact.

I believe the general mindset and the generational mindset is a recognition, clear, it's it's just simple.

If you're having trouble with this word legacy, just see it as this is that the generational mindset is a recognition that we, would you say we, is more impactful than me.

We are stronger than the singular individual.

And we live in a culture that loves to emphasize the power of one.

Me.

I can become an influence, I can make a difference, I can do, I can, and it's true that there's a power in one, but there is an even greater power in the we.

One can send a thousand a flight, two can send a legion fleeing.

You get a good person on your shoulder, a good person who's got your back, and you can make a difference.

Uh, in these areas, I see generosity at work.

We've got a few images on the screen here of some of the kids' programs that we use our legacy uh resources to be able to support.

We've got our kids' programs special events for them.

Of course, we've got our youth program, and many of you have seen the video of our youth camp this last year, where many of you helped support uh families in coming uh to youth camp.

We saw numbers of kids get baptized, over 13 kids get baptized.

Isn't that awesome?

At kids' camp, making it or at youth camp this year.

There's so much more impact we can make when we're thinking about impacting together.

I would not run want to run a kid's ministry by myself.

God gave me three kids.

I don't know how we're gonna have I would handle 70 kids in a room, but uh God gave us uh the ability together to make a difference.

I feel blessed to be able to have grown up with significant spiritual depth in our history.

This last year I my dad wanted to go fishing and took us up north.

And on the way up north, and I was with my kids, uh, I we stopped in a little place uh named Clinton.

How many of you know where Clinton is?

It's literally you blink and you're through.

But the next time you go through Clinton, uh there's a little ice cream shop there.

And out front of that ice cream shop is a big wooden bench.

And that big wooden bench is uh was actually made by my grandfather when he was in Clinton after uh just getting married, having my mom and uh they had my mom and my dad, or my my mom and my uncle.

Let's get that right.

Clinton is in that kind of backcountry place.

The north is funny, but it's not that funny.

And uh he decided to build uh the church uh in Clinton that's still standing today, and he actually built all the pews by hand uh for that church.

And when we went up there, we got it was like by the time you're driving up there, it's about 10 o'clock, and my dad really wanted us to see this place, and we wanted to see it, and it's out front of an ice cream shop, but you know, having ice cream at 10 a.m.

in the morning is like a dream come true for the kids, right?

And we got to sit out front, sit on these pews that were made by my grandpa.

Both of my grandfathers served the Lord, both of my grandmothers served the Lord, my parents served the Lord.

I come from a great heritage, spiritual heritage, and it makes a difference when you look at your future, but it always has to start with someone.

My grandparents told me stories about how they themselves came to know Christ and how they themselves came to be full of the Holy Spirit.

Uh one time sitting on their bunk bed, uh, my grandparents with uh were telling stories about how they each came to get filled with the Holy Spirit, and I believe it was my grandma, my grandma, she was on this, she was on the top bunk, and she could hear down the street, she could hear the Pentecostal church um having a service.

And how many of you know that Pentecostal churches seem to be quite loud, much like our church?

And uh they could hear the exuberance and the life-giving spirit that was coming out of that church and was carrying through the city.

And as they she was with her siblings on the top bunk listening to the music because they weren't able to go to the service, they wanted and they were captured by the Spirit of God, and they opened themselves up to being filled with the Holy Spirit at that point in time, and that moment in time for them on that bunk bed made a difference for us today.

Moments that change destiny, moments that change direction in life.

Each of us are responsible for our future, and not just for our future, but for the future of generations to come.

The families that leave the greatest legacy of power and influence are the families that think long term, families that see beyond their own lifetime, equip and empower the next generation to go beyond where they have gone.

Even Jesus, when he left, he said, Greater things will you do in my name.

Jesus himself said, I'm just setting the foundation here.

You guys go forward.

I'm gonna bring it's better that I go because I'm gonna give you the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit of God is gonna come on you that no matter where you go, you're gonna be carrying me.

When you're not investing into the future generations, you're losing.

Economies, corporations understand this, and they're strategically planning for it.

Nestle, who made makes uh coffee, uh, decided that there's this huge emerging market called China.

The problem with China is that China doesn't drink coffee, they drink what?

Tea.

Tea.

And they drink tea, so they decided strategically we are going to impact China for our dollar.

And they started by giving kids coffee-flavored candies, and giving all kinds of kids coffee-flavored candies, and then they graduated.

Well, they get a little older.

What else can we give them?

Coffee-flavored ice cream, coffee-flavored protein, coffee flavored drinks.

Then all of a sudden, they start opening up really niche markets of coffee, uh, coffee places and cafes, and now they're entering into an economy where they had invested in the young people of the past that are now today putting their dollars towards coffee.

Economies, corporations are investing in strategically into the next generation, and just as families ought to be thinking legacy, businesses are thinking legacy, the church ought to be thinking legacy.

Investing into the next generation, into future generations is the greatest investment we can make.

It started with us, it started in the church, it started here, and if we don't make that pursuit, other people will pursue our the next generation.

I'll wrap this up in a catchphrase that I heard from a pastor from Tacoma.

He said this, and he coined this term, think three.

A think three mentality is thinking about is it goes beyond thinking about you.

Uh, it's the fact that God is thinking about those who will come through you.

A think-three life says, How do my decisions impact my children's children?

And so some of the scriptures in our home that I've carried into my family, you're welcome to embrace them as your own as well.

Proverbs 4.18, the path of the righteous is like the morning sun shining ever brighter till the full light.

Our generational legacy isn't to get darker and darker and dimmer and dimmer.

Our generational legacy is to get brighter and brighter and brighter and brighter.

And I know that we're gonna face obstacles and we're gonna face uh resistance, but the fact is we have been called as a church to not just grow our light, but to grow our light brighter and brighter.

Not just to become salty.

I love that.

We're supposed to carry the salt, become the salt of the earth, and impact the world.

Isaiah 59, 21.

The first message I ever preached was with my dad and my grandfather.

They asked me to share with them at this time, I think it was about 18 years old.

And this is the scripture I preached on.

It says, As for me, God, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord.

My spirit who is on you will not depart from you, and my words that I've put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children, on the lips of their descendants, from this time on and forever, says the Lord.

Is that a good word?

Yeah, it's thinking less about me and more about we, the generations that are to come.

Scripture teaches us that God's plan for the church is to get stronger through every generation.

There are great institutions in the world that work with kids, work with students, work with the next generation.

But the church has always been God's plan A.

The church has been God's plan A.

He wants life to flow out of this place.

His house brings life, his house, his spirit, his presence is what becomes the core and the central, uh, central driver from to everything that we do.

In every generation, if you start from scratch, it's gonna it's gonna set you back.

You lose momentum.

But if every generation builds on the next generation, we actually gain traction.

There's power and empowerment in healthy transition and looking from generation to generation.

We would uh not be where we are today had it not been for generational thinking, generational planning, generational input and investment and resource, generational prayer, generational care.

We are here because of other generations, and this is our reminder of the reality today that when one generation builds on the platform of the other, then each generation is then responsible to leave a legacy for the next.

And so our challenge today is how am I leaving a legacy for the next generation?

Because we can talk about it and think about ourselves as being the recipients, but the fact is, by thinking three, we are not always only the recipients, we are the givers.

And it doesn't matter what age you are, if you're older, you may be receiving from the young and then giving to those who are younger and the young, and even like a 15-year-old, a 13-year-old can be giving.

A 13-year-old, a 12-year-old, a 10-year-old can be giving.

Each one of us can be thinking up and thinking down and thinking about others all around.

That's the way we honor up, we honor down, and we honor all around, and that is the secret to living a next generational legacy-minded uh lifestyle.

Within KCC, I've been truly blessed with the generations that went before me.

I think about youth programs, and and I remember being in youth group and people praying for me and and and prophesying over me, something that I was I didn't even have on my my destination and my destiny.

I was I was gonna become a dentist.

Because I was like, why not?

They make good money, and I was a little ignorant.

I'm so glad I'm not a dentist right now.

But I remember hearing uh from someone who came and they prayed over me and they said, I see a double portion of the anointing, like of what was on your parents, on your dad.

It was like a a cloak, a a portion that was coming on you that was a double portion, and it's gonna rest on you.

And I I couldn't shake it.

I knew God was moving me somewhere else, and I was like, Man, I can't fill those shoes.

I can't feel the leadership shoes necessary.

I can't feel the, I can't speak in front of people.

I can't, I get nervous.

How many of you know all those anxieties come to mind when you're younger and you're like, I just can't do it.

But little by little the Lord led me.

I remember being on the front row in a church service and and one fellow came to me, he said, Do you love Jesus?

And I said, I love Jesus.

He goes, Do you love Jesus?

I said, I love Jesus.

He goes, and he slapped me across the face.

Do you love Jesus?

And I it woke something up in me.

I love Jesus.

I remember the spirit of violence came out of me.

Look up Matthew chapter 11, verse 12.

Matthew 11:12

The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and it's the violent that take it by force.

It's a spirit of violence.

Something came out of me, and I was like, I'm I'm not a kid anymore.

It woke me up.

It also opened him up for a lawsuit, but it woke me up.

Who influenced you?

I'm thinking about how we're moving the church forward right now.

The church and the organization as a whole is with in probably one of the strongest positions in the life of this organization.

We're preparing, strategizing, planning on the church moving forward.

And when we think about the generational mindset, we we're challenged to push.

Because too often you can get into a point of drift and just in a point of just relaxing.

And we learned from Pastor Malachi a few weeks ago that if you stop paddling and you start just letting the current take you where you want to go, you'll end up in the weeds.

We want to be able to plan and str and and actually establish a stronger floor for the next generation.

And it's not gonna happen because of me, it's gonna happen because of we.

We are going to do that together.

The concept of thinking three is uh is a biblical grounded uh idea.

Exodus in the Old Testament, chapter 3, verse 15, says that God said to Moses, he said, the Lord God of the fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.

He went through generations and Jesus, God branded himself as a generational thinker.

He says, I want you to start to see yourself thinking generationally.

Then he went to the New Testament in the book of Acts, where he says he's pouring out his spirit upon all flesh.

He said, I'm gonna place it on your sons and your daughters, they will prophesy.

Your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams, young, old fathers, everybody is going to be a part of this journey.

No one is discounted, no one is out of the question.

All of you are important.

John, 1 John chapter 2, verse 12 to 14.

1 John 2:12–14

I write to you children, I write to you fathers, I write to you young men.

He's saying, I'm seeing every generation considered here.

A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children.

A sinner takes up, like uses the wealth that's stored up, uh, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.

In other words, like you're thinking of the generations.

The faith, this this mentality has to live within the church.

It's a biblical mandate.

So to think three, how do you think three?

And I've I've we've been thinking about this, and one of the ways we think three is that we're amused by the by the next generation instead of approaching them with an arrogant attitude, being arrogant towards them.

You can't reach a generation that you resent.

I know it's kind of idealistic and kind of nice to like romanticize, you know.

I'm an old guy sitting on a rocky chair yelling at the kids, you know, that are going up and down the street, and this kind of romanticized idea of kind of like my generation had it the best way.

How many of you think that?

Our TV was the best, our movies were the best.

Our life was the best.

Man, I remember my life.

I was thinking about this day.

My parents, I used to tell them, Mom, Dad, I'm hopping on the motorbike.

I'm gonna drive up to the trestles, and I'll be back by dinner.

They had no way of contacting me, no, no idea to track me, no, just hoped I would.

Come home.

It was actually kind of concerning when I look back at my growing up that my parents cared enough about me.

Like, where did he go?

There's this, there's this idea that when you look at the generations of the past, you can kind of compare and you can get a little bit arrogant in your own views, like our way is the best way.

You can't influence those who you constantly criticize.

And the word amused is to be delighted, to be entertained by them.

Last night I had uh we had the privilege of having um Flex Academy basketball team over at our house.

And uh they were at our place, and my wife had prepared uh tacos.

And uh, have you ever had like 20 young men at your house?

And you wonder like how many tacos should I make for 20 young growing guys who are like all interested in bulking season right now because they're gonna be burning it off in basketball.

And Natalie and I kind of kind of quotion, well, 20, yeah, five, that's like a hundred tacos.

It's like, well, what you do is you double that because guys are like, I'd ate tacos, I had these are great, chicken and beef and all, like they they love it.

And instead of being the guy who's like, how many tacos are you having?

How many, how many, how many?

I actually sat back and I was amused.

I was like, wow, you can really pound back those tacos.

How do you do it?

Like, I remember when I was younger and I could eat eight tacos.

And it's like, uh, but I got amused at it.

There every opportunity with the next generation gives you opportunity to either be arrogant or to be amused.

And so when it comes to uh a church, uh we we look at the church and we see the church is not a one-generational church.

We look at ways to get amused at the next generation.

I'll tell you, when I see Brooklyn singing her heart up, up out up here, I am amused.

There's something in me that is is celebrating who she is and what God is doing in her in such a young age.

When I see others, the old you know, people come in and they've got, like, I'm amused at some of the some of the guys here who are reaching out to the younger generation, older, younger, they're just like, I'm amused at the next generation.

Every person that we we connect with, we have to guard our heart and we have to assess our heart and say, how am I going to celebrate the another generation other than my own?

And this next generational approach is actually not just thinking about those who go before you, but those who've come, those who are coming after you.

So we bridge the gap.

And the bridge, I believe, the church is called to demonstrate how that how to actually bridge that gap.

And there are people that are outside of your demographic, but they need you.

Would you just nudge your neighbor and say, uh, you need me.

You need me, you need me, that's right.

I remember when my kids were little and they were thinking about worship, and I had one, one of my kids, he would uh he would look on stage and he would strum like the guitar player.

Do you remember our kids would pretend that they were the drummer?

They were looking at the next generation as heroes.

I can guarantee that your life will be better when you can look outside of your peer group and see how you can help someone else who may be a little boy or a little girl or a little different in terms of their age.

But how can I influence them in a positive way?

One of the areas that have been communicated by this generation as a desired investment, and that I've watched is mostly in the this this present generation, is that because 50% of students today are fatherless kids, come from fatherless homes, there's an aching in many of them that they would have someone who's older invest into their soul, invest into their heart, invest into their future.

So we have people today who are carrying the heart for the next generation and actually giving of themselves to the next generation.

But they're they're they're coaches, they're mentors, they're they're people who are looking for ways to actually be a support.

And the Bible says very clearly, it says, in your life you're gonna have many teachers, but there are very few fathers.

Fathers, those who can come in and impart destiny, impart identity, impart a sense of value in it and call out the things that are inside of a person and bring them to life and breathe on the flame that's inside of them, share their dreams, share their ideals, share their interests, and actually go, you can do it, you can do it.

I'm behind you.

How much money do you need?

I'm there.

Honestly, it comes down to anything.

What can I do to help?

Working together, honoring one another.

We go to uh, you know, when we speak, when we think of prophetic lifestyle, you know that the prophetic word that a lot of of people hear today, here in their homes, here in their school, is negative.

It's speaking death, not life.

It's saying, you're stupid, you're not enough, you'll never get there.

You know that uh we were talking today, 20% of this generation actually believes that they'll own a home.

20%.

How would you like to reverse that?

Reverse that idea that says, no, you know what, we're gonna ensure that every kid set has a plan, has a drive, has an interest.

Like it if they don't want to own a home, that's one thing.

But if you can, if you want to, you can make it happen.

We're not going to shut that down.

We're going to get behind you, we're going to be there to support you.

And when you are influencers, salt, light, working together, that's what makes the difference.

So take time with a prophetic word.

Take time with a written word.

Learn about the interests of the other generation.

Get amused by it.

What are you interested in?

One of my favorite things is sitting down and watching just YouTube with my kids.

What are you guys watching?

What are you interested in?

Why are you interested in this?

Why, how what does this look like for you?

What is this stirring up in you?

And I'm catching it on the go so I can get behind it.

I'm not I'm not figuring it out so I can compete with them.

I'm I'm figuring out so I can support them.

And people say, like, well, how do I prophesy?

Because this is what we're called to do.

And prophecy to me is very easy.

Prophesy is simply you profess what you see.

To prophesy over someone, this is what I see in you.

It starts this way, this is what I see in you.

This is what God sees in you.

This is how God created you.

This is how I see God seeing you.

This is belief and building and supporting every young person, every young dream, every young vision.

It's standing behind because the scripture says, in the last days, God says, I'll pour out my spirit on all people.

Your sons, your daughters will prophesy.

Your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

It sounds really exciting, isn't it?

Prophecy, vision, dreams, things that grow the future, grow our future.

All these things make a difference.

Another way we can actually support the generation is by staying young at heart.

Young is not an age, it's an attitude.

In fact, I don't believe, I don't see it in scripture as people getting old.

They they mature.

Second Corinthians 4 16 says, though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we're being renewed day by day.

Our youth gets renewed like the eagles.

He satisfies you, the scripture says, with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagles, but let there be light.

God's plan is that we stay fresh and we stay young at heart.

So don't get older.

Look at opportunities to actually move forward.

And we do that through generational ministry and generational care.

Let there be darkness.

You feel the mood just change there.

So we give to the future.

If we're getting younger at heart, younger in attitude, we are coming to a place where we can say, you know what, I'm gonna use my energy to actually build the next generation.

So we pray for them.

And I I I want to challenge dads today.

Don't just come to church because you have to, amen?

Come to church with something to offer.

Examples for your sons, your daughters, examples for others as well.

Don't just uh sing songs, use worship, use praise as a weapon.

Teach them how to wage war through your worship.

Lead that way.

When you lead the next generation, because I guarantee that each one of the young people, each one people in this church who are hungry and looking for examples, are looking for people who've known how to do it, who know how to face difficult times and situations.

Lead them to the house of God, lead them to know Jesus, lead.

We're going to get, we're going to do everything that we can to create a church that's relevant to our children and to our children's children.

And we need everyone moving in that direction, moving for that future.

How many of you love this generation?

How many of you are thinking about the generation to come and the generations beyond?

You know, we've got a lot of policy makers and governments that don't see the future.

And the church has to be able to see the future and the future of its of its kids.

And God's heart is that we grow the future together.

So don't get stuck, don't just flinch away.

Don't make it about one generation, make it about going forward together.

I'm just gonna take a moment here because I know that so many uh, you know, you you may be here today, and you've got someone around you who's the next generation.

Would you say if if anyone's here who's under 30, let's put under 30, just raise your hands really nice and tall.

That's right.

Come on, under 30.

I see you.

You're under 30s.

Come on.

We're gonna pray for you.

We're gonna pray.

How many of you know that the under-thirties need prayer?

Yeah, that's right.

Prophecy.

Father, we profess what we see today.

Would you just stir your heart in prayer?

We thank you, Lord, for the next generation.

We thank you for the kids.

We thank you for the our kids' kids that are even downstairs right now.

In Jesus' name, we profess, Lord, visionaries, dreamers.

We announce today, Father, that your your eyes are upon them.

And Father, you have a vision, you have a purpose and a mission for each and every one of them.

Father, that they would grow up, they would prosper, that they would be in health, that their soul would prosper and be in health, Lord, that would not be dragged down by the anchor of this world, but Lord, it would be lifted up in Jesus' name into that heavenly place where they see with your eyes and dream with your heart, Father.

I we we can we cancel any agenda that the enemy would have against them.

We cancel, Lord.

We plead the blood of Jesus over their life and over their future.

We plead it, Lord, over their over the guardrails of their life, Lord, that they would see with your eyes, they would dream with your heart, Lord, that they would begin to uh follow you with everything that's within them, and they would connect with you, Lord, as their creator, in such a significant and real way that, Lord, others would be attracted to this generation, and they would be able to lead their friends and their friends' friends to you.

In the name of Jesus, we thank you for this next generation.

We honor them today, the brilliance in them, we honor the creativity, we honor the entrepreneurship, we honor the ideas, we honor, Lord, the the intelligence that they have, Lord, today, and we just bless them in the name of Jesus.

Would you just say bless you?

Bless you, amen.

Thank you, Father, for bringing them here today.

Thank you for being a uh a support to this generation and being open to their every one of their cries, every one of their call-outs, every one of their uh desires to connect with you, their connections in the name of Jesus.

We are not alone, Lord.

You've got them in your hands and we're we've got them in our hearts in Jesus' name.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may his face shine upon you, may he be gracious to you, and may the Lord give you health and give you strength.
