  1. If you have a Bible. You can turn to Luke and we'll

  2. be in Luke chapter 10. And as you're turning there, you

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  3. may have heard of a little vision for what we're doing in

  4. the. Word for the.

  5. Upcoming months, but I'll just. Restate it.

  6. Because we're starting, you know, right in the middle of

  7. Luke and. The the series is called.

  8. Journey. To the cross it is.

  9. From Luke Chapter 9 all the way until the crucifixion of.

    Luke 9 chapter mention

  10. Christ that we'll celebrate. And remember on Good Friday and

  11. AS. We.

  12. Map out now this. Is really just a big build up to

  13. Easter. Starting in Luke 9 and and going

  14. in through. The rest of the Gospel of Luke,

  15. Jesus. Is journeying the road to

  16. Jerusalem to fulfill his mission.

  17. To give his life. On the cross, a ransom for many

  18. so. We'll just look at a chapter,

  19. roughly a chapter a week as we go through.

  20. Up until Easter and as you know, you think.

  21. About how to. To just take we won't have

  22. enough time to look at every story and every verse.

  23. My my first thought in in kind of developing the sermon series.

  24. Was we'll. We'll do kind of a.

  25. Highlight reel for the Gospel of Luke.

  26. And there's so many. Stories.

  27. You're probably. Familiar with in the Gospel of

  28. Luke today, for example, Luke chapter 10 is the Good Samaritan

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  29. next. Week is the Lord's.

  30. Prayer, and that's the tempting thing, is to.

  31. Just look at the the. Things we all know and love

  32. about the Gospels, but I think in line with what is really

  33. necessary to remember that this is a story of Jesus going to lay

  34. down his life and he's calling people to follow him to the

  35. cross rather than look at the. Highlight reel, which is.

  36. Often the way that we view Jesus anyway, we're going to look at

  37. more challenging, more difficult passages in the Gospels.

  38. And I think one of the motivations I had in in looking

  39. for maybe the the more. Difficult way to the cross is

  40. because we live. In a time that is growing in

  41. becoming what is called post. Church.

  42. And more and more. People have a view of Jesus,

  43. that is. Very broad and very comfortable.

  44. I was actually. Talking to a person not long ago

  45. and I'm. I was grateful.

  46. We're doing this series because they said to me I could never be

  47. a Christian. But I absolutely love.

  48. The teachings of Jesus. Because Jesus?

  49. Really. Just teaches love and acceptance

  50. and if only people were more focused on the teachings of

  51. Jesus and less. Of all the other stuff.

  52. That comes up in the Bible and it's it is a sentiment that you

  53. may have run into. Maybe you've even felt man,

  54. Jesus is so loving and he's so accepting and all the other.

  55. Stuff is so hard. It made me wonder if she'd

  56. actually ever read the teachings of Jesus, because no.

  57. Doubt Jesus teaches love. And Jesus is the most radical,

  58. accepting people, he says, to love enemies.

  59. But when you read the teachings of Christ, you realize.

  60. That he has some incredible difficult and high standards

  61. that he's calling his people to live in, and we'll actually look

  62. at some of that. Today.

  63. And, and it wouldn't be an introduction to the new year

  64. without at least one reference to the New Year's resolution.

  65. It's the new year. There's so many people this time

  66. of year that think about getting their life right.

  67. So I read an article this. Week that I'll share.

  68. At least the headline with you now it's called.

  69. Why you're about to fail. So welcome to church.

  70. Here's why you're going to fail and all your endeavors to to

  71. have a new year and a new you. And you've probably either

  72. experienced some of this in your life or heard all.

  73. Of the philosophy. Behind why willpower on January

  74. 1st often turns into failure. By February, but here's.

  75. One, I think very important antidote from this.

  76. It says people fail. Because they underestimate the

  77. commitment. And you know, that's a good

  78. reminder for the. Other areas of your life that

  79. could be resolved by good. Discipline in the new year.

  80. But just as a as a proof. To this concept, going to the

  81. gym for a week or two will not. Actually give you 6 pack.

  82. ABS you know it's not going to happen with the the low bar of

  83. commitment that is like I'm here, when's the change happen?

  84. And same with your diet. Eating a couple salads in place

  85. of junk food is not going to give.

  86. You a beach body? Your finances will not be

  87. changed radically because you skipped a few morning coffees

  88. and made coffee at home. And you know, downloading a a

  89. language learning app is probably not going to advance

  90. you much past high school level Spanish.

  91. There is a commitment that we fail.

  92. To realize is required. And, and, and that is why some

  93. people are failing by thinking Jesus just wants us to love.

  94. That's not the commitment that he's asking to make.

  95. So today we're going to look at what is the.

  96. Actual commitment of a disciple and and this is a perfect

  97. addition to what we looked at. Last week.

  98. Last week. The the question is.

  99. How can people follow Jesus? In a more than just a a cultural

  100. kind of. Way and last.

  101. Week was a reminder. That Jesus actually turned

  102. people. Away, he said.

  103. You're not fit to follow me if you're still thinking about the

  104. cares of the world and the cares of your old family and the cares

  105. of. The of of the plow last.

  106. Week, he turned people away for their lack of commitment.

  107. This week, we're going to look at some marks of.

  108. What makes people a disciple? Not a cultural Christian.

  109. Not someone who showed up on a new.

  110. Year to get a couple. Sermons and get on their way,

  111. not someone who's looking for. Good advice.

  112. We're looking for how people actually follow Jesus in a way

  113. that. He says you're 1 of mine now.

  114. Today he's going to call people, anoint them to be messengers of

  115. his mission. And they are marked by some real

  116. radical commitments. So will you.

  117. Join me as we look at the. Story that is often called Jesus

  118. sending out the 70 it starts in Luke chapter 10.

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  119. We'll read verse one and then we'll I'll give you kind of a

  120. road map of how we're going to look at this.

  121. It says in verse one after these things the Lord appointed. 70

  122. others also. And sent them. 2 by 2.

  123. Before his face into every city and place where he.

  124. Himself was about to go so right away.

  125. We see the difference between last week's message and this.

  126. It it says that after. The messages of turning people

  127. away, he now brings people to him, he brings 70 and he

  128. appoints them. He say you're going to represent

  129. me. In fact, it says he's sending

  130. them into cities. Where he's about to go.

  131. In ancient language this is. The way that a.

  132. King would send messengers to. Prepare the way for his arrival.

  133. And he has found 70. He's broken up into, you know,

  134. 35 teams of. Two to say you.

  135. Now represent me to where? I'm about to go these.

  136. Are disciples. These are messengers of the

  137. king. These are the people.

  138. That God is looking for now people that are not.

  139. Just culturally interested, but they would actually be used.

  140. By him and representative of him to wherever he sends them.

  141. And so the road map that we'll look.

  142. Through is similar to how Jesus. Kind of speaks into all of our

  143. lives. It'll start with.

  144. Jesus giving them a vision. A vision for what?

  145. This. This is all about.

  146. He's then going to give them after the vision, a very clear

  147. mission to go on with the mission.

  148. We'll then look at the message of the message the of the

  149. mission. And then at the very end, he

  150. actually gives them a, a very helpful lesson as the whole

  151. story concludes. And so we'll we'll have vision,

  152. mission, message and lesson in each one of these on the road

  153. map on the journey to the cross will come with a.

  154. Clear mark of why these? People were appointed as

  155. disciples. And so it starts with his

  156. vision. Look what it.

  157. Says in starting with verse 2 Luke chapter 10 verse 2 says

    Luke 10:2

  158. then he said to them. The harvest truly is great, but

  159. the laborers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the.

  160. Harvest to send out laborers into his harvest before.

  161. He. Gives them their marching

  162. orders. He gives them a vision.

  163. For the world that they. Live in and for for.

  164. The things they're going to. Do in following him and.

  165. I love this particular. Vision that he gives to.

  166. The disciples. Because it reminds me that Jesus

  167. helps them, helps us. See the world radically.

  168. Different than we normally would.

  169. Oftentimes you'll hear this called the upside down Kingdom

  170. when. You really start.

  171. To pay attention to the way Jesus.

  172. Teaches you to see the world, you'll realize it's radically.

  173. Different than you yourself, naturally.

  174. See the World. And we can see this more clearly

  175. in this metaphor. Of a harvest when he shares the.

  176. Same metaphor, but in the Gospel of Matthew, look what it says in

  177. Matthew Chapter 9. Same metaphor is about to be

    Matthew 9 chapter mention

  178. used. It says in verse 36, when he saw

  179. the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them because

  180. they were weary and scattered like sheep having no shepherd.

  181. And with that context now laid. It says this is what he sells

  182. his disciples the harvest, truly.

  183. Is plentiful, but the laborers. Are few the gospel writer?

  184. Gives this really important detail of of.

  185. What the harvest field looked like, It looked.

  186. Like a bunch of scattered, worn out people with no direction and

  187. no guidance. And I don't know if you've ever

  188. looked out and seen. That but if you.

  189. Haven't you should take a look at our current culture and I

  190. don't know if. If you have the the.

  191. Same response that I have sometimes when I look out and I

  192. see a culture that just seems completely scattered, seems less

  193. unified and and and less going in a common direction than ever.

  194. We have more infighting, more people arguing, more pockets of

  195. people just going separate ways, and I see a weary.

  196. Culture, people that are just. Constantly on the brink of

  197. exhaustion and tired and looking for just some breathing room in

  198. life, I I see a. Culture that is scattered.

  199. With with no guidance, I mean, there's, there's 1000 voices in,

  200. in, in the ecosystem of our culture and there's no clear

  201. direction of where we're all. Supposed to be going.

  202. We've got. Politicians and influencers and

  203. celebrities. And everybody's.

  204. Listening to all these voices, but there's no shepherd.

  205. And I know for me personally, there's times in my life.

  206. When I just look at the state of our culture.

  207. And I see the brokenness of the, the, the youth and the

  208. loneliness and the, the decimation of the family unit

  209. and the statistics on marriage just just being just so

  210. heartbreaking that that most marriages are going to end and

  211. the even the future. Of of of of the.

  212. Church and faith and it just seems like.

  213. You look out and you just see. Brokenness and for me.

  214. I just feel like that is just. Such a burdensome thing for me.

  215. My response is often like, Lord, you should come, you should just

  216. return so we can be done with this whole operation and just

  217. set into order the the new heavens and the new earth.

  218. Let's just be done with this. And, and maybe you see it more

  219. specifically in your workplace or your family and you're like

  220. this. This just looks like chaos.

  221. And hopelessness. But but here's what Jesus.

  222. Does he gives a vision so that you can see the world totally

  223. different? When he saw Weary.

  224. And broken and people without guidance, he said.

  225. That. Is a harvest.

  226. Where he sees. Brokenness.

  227. He's like, that's a person who I could heal.

  228. Where he sees people who are weary.

  229. He says this is these are the kind of people that are looking

  230. for rest and I've got it when he sees.

  231. People that don't have a shepherd.

  232. He says I'm the great Shepherd. When people are scattered and

  233. they're looking for someone to give them guidance, bring them

  234. to me and I will point them down the.

  235. Way that they should go. When he sees people in prison,

  236. he says I have the keys to unlock their chains.

  237. When he sees people in addiction, he's like.

  238. This is perfect because I could heal them.

  239. When he sees marriages on the brink, he's like, you guys have

  240. been looking for an answer. I'm the answer.

  241. When he sees youth that don't know where they're going,

  242. they're like point them to me. This is bring them into my

  243. Kingdom. This is all.

  244. Perfect for the future. Of the Kingdom, Jesus gives

  245. vision so that. We would see the world.

  246. Totally different. So what?

  247. Does that tell us? About being marked by his.

  248. Discipleship. These people appointed by Jesus

  249. hear a vision and they believed it.

  250. They're about to respond which very simply for our purposes,

  251. the way that you now. View the world.

  252. If you are marked. By the discipleship of Christ.

  253. Is very simply you listen to Jesus.

  254. Disciples are people. Who listen to Jesus and they

  255. believe Him. Disciples have a way to view the

  256. world the way that Jesus views the world.

  257. They read the words of Jesus. And they say that's reality if

  258. you want to be marked. If you want to be.

  259. Brought in to the Kingdom that is appointed by.

  260. Jesus for good work. You're a person that listens to

  261. Jesus and that's. Actually.

  262. You know, if we had time to break down the entire.

  263. Chapter that would be a. Theme of Luke chapter 10 these

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  264. are. These are there.

  265. There are some people who don't listen.

  266. There's some people. Who do but the the?

  267. Whole chapter ends with this incredible story of what?

  268. Jesus is. Looking for in people.

  269. You've probably heard the. Story of Martha and Mary Martha

  270. is busy getting the the house ready to host a bunch of Jesus

  271. and his. Disciple type people.

  272. And she's getting kind of annoyed because her sister Mary

  273. is just sitting at the feet of Jesus and she's like.

  274. Jesus, could you please tell her to get?

  275. Busy to get working to see the. World how I see it.

  276. And the whole scene is set up in this in this little phrase in

  277. Luke chapter 10 verse 39 that says and and Mary had a sister

    Luke 10:39

  278. named Martha had a sister named Mary.

  279. Who sat at Jesus? Feet and heard him, and Jesus

  280. says. She's.

  281. Chose the greater thing. The whole.

  282. Change of your life to make you an actual appointed disciple of

  283. Jesus begins when you have ears. To hear Jesus speak into your

  284. life. And that you would listen that

  285. that will what will change the dynamic.

  286. You're not coming to hear a sermon.

  287. You don't. You don't get your.

  288. Right your. Life right and spirituality and

  289. religion just by showing up to church and then going about your

  290. way and doing you want. These are people who sat at the

  291. feet of Jesus. And had their whole dynamic

  292. change to. See what he sees.

  293. Jesus sees your world radically. Different than you do.

  294. He says the harvest is great. He's got hope for the for.

  295. The culture he lived in. He sees you and he sees a.

  296. Sinner that can be brought in and made into a St.

  297. It all starts with listening to him.

  298. Which of course. Is where many people get off the

  299. discipleship invitation because one of the worst things we do in

  300. life is listen you know it's. Very hard to sit.

  301. To be undistracted and say. Jesus speak.

  302. In To My Life Are you listening to the person of Jesus?

  303. Does he have the ability to tell you how life is supposed to

  304. work? Do you read his word and say

  305. speak? Do you respond?

  306. So disciples are marked by the simple fact that they listen to

  307. Him, and then we know they're listening.

  308. Because he's about to give. Them a mission, We'll now get to

  309. the section of the mission and they're going to respond.

  310. Look. What it says?

  311. In verse three he says. Go your way.

  312. That's another operation of listening.

  313. He's like. I want you to go your way.

  314. And here's how I'm going to send you.

  315. This is the the the marching orders, the details of the

  316. mission. I send you out as lambs among

  317. wolves, carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals, and greet

  318. no one along the. Road, but whatever house.

  319. You enter. First say peace to this House.

  320. And if a son of. Peace is there.

  321. Your peace will rest. On it.

  322. If not, it will return to you. And then, he says, remain in the

  323. same house, eating and drinking such things.

  324. As they give for the laborer is worthy of his wage, Don't go.

  325. From house to house and whatever city you enter and they receive.

  326. You eat. Such things are set before you

  327. and while. You're there.

  328. Heal the. Sick and say to them, the

  329. Kingdom of God has come near to you.

  330. He has sent them on a mission with some very unique but.

  331. Clear. Mission commands, he tells them.

  332. You know, they're not to take money, they're not to really

  333. take any supplies, basically. Travel very light.

  334. They're supposed to get to a house.

  335. Offer peace. And if it's.

  336. Received. You stay.

  337. You don't go house to house, you're just content with the one

  338. that received you. You eat with them, you show them

  339. that. The the the Lord has the power

  340. to. Heal and to comfort.

  341. And then you say the Kingdom is here, and if they reject you,

  342. then you just move on. And so there's all sorts of

  343. things that we could just stay here and think through.

  344. One of the things is that I want to make it.

  345. Very clear that this is. Not a a.

  346. Playbook for every believer This is a specific.

  347. Moment in the ministry of Jesus for him to send.

  348. Out his disciples. On the way to Jerusalem and he

  349. had a reason for them to have no money and to to do the things

  350. that he had them do. And there's other times where he

  351. would send people and it looked very different the.

  352. Book of Acts looks very. Different than this and it will

  353. look different in your. Life so the.

  354. Principle is not supposed to become a playbook for your life.

  355. None of you have to read this and think, OK, I I need to just

  356. have nothing and I needed to, you know, become a, a 19. 60s

  357. Jesus people. Hippie.

  358. That is hitchhiking to San Francisco until I can tell and

  359. and then tell people all about, you know, the second coming that

  360. it's not, it's not the playbook, it's a principle.

  361. And the principle is this. He's requiring them.

  362. To radically. Trust him.

  363. That is the. Principle of a disciple that is

  364. seen in the mission. The mission will have so many

  365. different details, but there is one that will always remain.

  366. Jesus is going to get a hold of your life if you listen to Him

  367. and He's going to send you out on a mission.

  368. That will require you. To radically trust him.

  369. That is the the the. Glaring lesson of this when you

  370. have no money, you have no place to stay, you don't bring extra

  371. supplies and you're and you're going on a prayer that you'll

  372. meet someone the. The the principle is trust.

  373. And that's the same principle. For your life.

  374. The the, the, the next exit on the on the on the road to

  375. discipleship. Is do I really have to do it

  376. Jesus way? You you know you're getting into

  377. a place in your life where you're beginning to follow Jesus

  378. when you lay your strategies before him and you.

  379. Pick up his. They probably did not love

  380. hearing the very first thing that he said.

  381. I want you to go. And by the way, you're going to

  382. be a lamb in a pack. Of wolves, so I got I'd.

  383. Prefer not to do that. And he's like, OK, great.

  384. And here's how you're going to protect yourself and afford

  385. everything. You're not.

  386. You're just going to go out and trust me.

  387. And that is? Where the overlay is so.

  388. Clear in our lives, the the money will look different, the

  389. lodging will look different, the way you eat will look different,

  390. the the way that you even interact will look different.

  391. But we will always. Be.

  392. Lambs in a world of. Wolves.

  393. Every mission will. Require you to trust that you

  394. have a shepherd that will care for you.

  395. In ways that you are completely dependent for him to care on you

  396. and if you want a challenge of your trust in Jesus.

  397. Just very practically speaking, how you're living your life.

  398. New Year's challenge New you re examine how you're living the

  399. Sermon on the Mount Matthew chapter 5-6 and seven.

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  400. It is the constitution of the Kingdom of God, and it requires.

  401. You to have the posture. Of a lamb the the the Sermon on

  402. the Mount is Jesus saying, I want you to go out and live.

  403. So radically representing my love.

  404. That in a world. Of wolves you're.

  405. A lamb. You turn your cheek, you give it

  406. an extra mile. You give more than you need or

  407. more than is asked. You you give.

  408. Everything away and see how. I'll I'll take care of you.

  409. And this. Is what is required.

  410. Your church attendance, your you know, through the Bible in a

  411. year plan. All of these good things are not

  412. the main thing. What is required of you is that

  413. you trust Jesus with. Everything that you have.

  414. I've actually heard it said. That the most sacred thing that

  415. you can give someone is, is not love.

  416. And you'd think maybe that, you know, there's nothing more

  417. powerful than giving someone love.

  418. Well, just, you know, thinking through the teachings of Jesus,

  419. he requires you to love everyone.

  420. So you have to give that to everyone.

  421. You have to love everyone. The most sacred thing you give

  422. someone is trust, it says. We don't have to trust everyone.

  423. We'll be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.

  424. We're supposed to be shrewd. And for anyone of of you who

  425. have been married, you know that the most sacred thing that you

  426. gave on the day of your wedding. Was trust you've looked each.

  427. Other in the eye and with a verbal contract said you can

  428. trust me till the day that you die, that I will never leave you

  429. or forsake you. It is.

  430. The Sacred. Possession of someone to say

  431. here is my trust and what is being required of you to become

  432. a disciple of Jesus. Is for you to.

  433. Give the most trust, more trust than you give anyone in the

  434. world. You just say Jesus.

  435. My life in your hands equals your goodness in return.

  436. And we'll come back to that point, but we'll keep moving.

  437. But I just want you to know some of you need to hear this for the

  438. first time because you've never. Trusted Jesus radically that.

  439. There is no one who trusts Jesus who is ever disappointed.

  440. There's no one who says I'm going to do my life your way.

  441. Whoever in the end of their life wishes they hadn't, we'll come.

  442. Back to that, but. 1st we get to the message starting in verse

  443. 10. Here's the message.

  444. That they're supposed to say, but whatever city you.

  445. Enter and they do not receive you.

  446. Go out into its St. and say the very.

  447. Dust of your city which? Clings to us, we wipe off

  448. against you. Nevertheless, know this.

  449. The Kingdom of God has come near you.

  450. But I say to you. That it will be more tolerable

  451. in the day of Sodom than for that city?

  452. Woe to you, Quarterson, Woe to you, Bethsaidia.

  453. For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done

  454. in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in

  455. sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more tolerable

  456. for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, then for you.

  457. And you, Capernum, who will be exalted to heaven, will be

  458. brought down to Hades. Let me return for just a moment.

  459. To where we started, I love Jesus.

  460. I just would never become a Christian I love.

  461. Jesus, because he just teaches. Love and acceptance he does, and

  462. his love. Is so real that he will tell you

  463. the truth. This is a reminder.

  464. That Jesus also preaches judgment.

  465. The message that he sends his 70s to represent on his behalf.

  466. The king is coming enter into his Kingdom.

  467. It's a message of peace. If they receive you.

  468. Give them your peace. If they reject you, your peace

  469. will come back, disciples. Represent the peace of God he

  470. sends his son into the world so that his. 1st.

  471. Offering would be peace, but the message is.

  472. Also. Narrow.

  473. It's loving and narrow. Which true love?

  474. Is loving and narrow when you say that you love someone and

  475. you commit to them for the rest of your life, it means you are

  476. loving them only. And to offer someone the free

  477. invitation into God's Kingdom is to also tell them that in the

  478. end there will only be one Kingdom.

  479. The Kingdom of God is going to be the new heavens and the new

  480. earth, and the King of Kings will reign supreme with all

  481. people who are in it. And there is coming a day that

  482. we all. Long.

  483. For believing it or not, where God is going to punish evil and

  484. sin and he's going to lay waste all of the corruption of our

  485. world and the injustices and we long for the dead.

  486. And the only hope that any of us have that we're not part of the

  487. judgment against evil, which. All of us are a part of.

  488. Is the gospel. That we would freely by the

  489. grace of God. Enter into His Kingdom, not by

  490. our own goodness, but by receiving the free.

  491. Gift of his life for ours. That's the message.

  492. And as you listen to me preach this, you may think this is the

  493. message. Of a preacher.

  494. Or you may think this is, you know, a message you'll hear on

  495. Sunday. And here's the point.

  496. The third mark of a disciple is. This is a message of all

  497. disciples. To be a disciple of Jesus is to.

  498. Listen to him, to trust him, and to represent him and his

  499. message. Look what it says.

  500. In verse 16. He who hears you, hears.

  501. Me. He who rejects you, rejects.

  502. Me. And he who rejects me, rejects

  503. him who sent me. For.

  504. Reasons that will remain a mystery until we all get to

  505. eternity. God has seen it.

  506. Fit to. Use human cooperation as part of

  507. His plan to send out the message of His saving grace and He.

  508. Says where you go the. Kingdom is when you step into

  509. your workplace, the Kingdom is there.

  510. When you. Are at the dinner table with

  511. your non believing family members.

  512. The Kingdom is at the dinner table and you have a message.

  513. That is so real that if they reject you, they reject Jesus.

  514. Are you living like? That I always get tested.

  515. In the burden that this can be to my.

  516. Flesh, because everywhere. I go there's no separating me

  517. from the reminder that where I am, I represent Jesus.

  518. Because whenever I get the question, what do you?

  519. Do I say pastor? I was on a.

  520. Flight last. Year and so we.

  521. Were just great. Flight we're all talking and and

  522. then he looks to me and says, what do you do and I say well,

  523. I'm a pastor and he's like, oh, it's gonna be a long flight I

  524. got to rethink my drink order I have to rethink what movies I'm

  525. watching next to you and and you're probably going to you

  526. know and it's and it's a burden for me because I I sense.

  527. People's like, oh great. But the the blessing of this

  528. message is that it's a shared burden that we all have.

  529. Where you go, people are supposed to have.

  530. The same sense that they are sitting next to a representative

  531. of the king of the Kingdom. Someone actually.

  532. Shared a story about. A man on airplane with me and I

  533. and I found it comforting and I want to give it to you.

  534. Because this is this. Is a light burden, that is.

  535. With great joy we get to do this.

  536. So a man. Shares a story of that.

  537. That moment they say, OK, what do you do when you're on the

  538. airport? And, and the woman said, what do

  539. you do? And, and, and the man said,

  540. well, I work for a global enterprise.

  541. She said, you do. And he said, yes, we've got

  542. outlets in nearly every country of the world.

  543. And she said, really? Said yeah, we do.

  544. We've got hospitals, hospices, homeless shelters.

  545. We do marriage work, we've got orphanages, we've got feeding

  546. programs, educational programs. I said we do all sorts of

  547. justice. And reconciliation of things and

  548. people with neighbors and. Basically, we look after people.

  549. From birth to death. And we're in the, we're in the

  550. business of behavioral alteration.

  551. I said well. That's a great way to put it.

  552. And when you put it in those terms.

  553. What a joy. That that's the representative,

  554. that's you. Disciples represent Jesus.

  555. I love. That in in Corinthians.

  556. Paul says. You're a new creation now.

  557. You're an ambassador of reconciliation.

  558. Where you go, the Kingdom goes. Are you the kind of person that

  559. has gone way beyond? You know this is the church I

  560. attend, or you know, I, I, I want to get.

  561. Right with God. So I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll.

  562. Start, you know, helping out at church The the the.

  563. Disciple has a very. Clear mission, and that is you

  564. are now an ambassador of the Kingdom.

  565. Where you go, Jesus goes. Where you're rejected, Jesus is.

  566. Rejected. And the message is radical love

  567. and honest warning. There's coming a day when the

  568. king will return and. All that will be left.

  569. Is the King of Kings reigning over the Kingdom of peace?

  570. Where you go, Jesus goes. Disciples are marked and and are

  571. representatives. Of Jesus.

  572. And now comes the lesson. So we had the the, the vision,

  573. the the mission and the message. And now he'll end by giving them

  574. a very important lesson for all of.

  575. Us, he says as they. Return in verse 17 they've gone

  576. on their mission. They have found.

  577. That what Jesus said worked. Verse 17 Then the 70 returned

  578. with joy. Lord, even demons are subject to

  579. us in your name. And he said to them, I saw Satan

  580. fall like lightning from heaven. So I I promised we would come

  581. back to that. That is baked into the story.

  582. They went out as lambs among wolves and they returned.

  583. Not saying Jesus you won't. Believe who got.

  584. Picked off and taken down. Jesus, we need a lot.

  585. Of help because only a. Few of us returned, it says.

  586. They came back rejoicing. It worked and I want to make

  587. this point. Twice because one of the.

  588. Biggest barriers of entry when someone comes and.

  589. Hears the Gospel. Of grace the message.

  590. To follow. Jesus and give him your.

  591. Life is. What if it doesn't work?

  592. What if all my hopes and dreams and strategies for life just

  593. turn into the dead ends of going to church and having nothing the

  594. the promise of following? Jesus is that it's.

  595. Life and life more abundant. The promises that when.

  596. You live life how, Jesus? Designed your.

  597. Life to be lived. You will experience great joy.

  598. You will get the returns on the Kingdom investment now, and this

  599. is where the lesson comes in because you know, once you start

  600. hanging out with church long enough and you start, you know,

  601. doing ministry and putting your hand to the Kingdom plow and

  602. start volunteering, you can get mixed up as to what the ultimate

  603. joy is. And this is the lesson Jesus

  604. said. You know, I've, I've seen Satan

  605. fall. He said, Behold, I give.

  606. You the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions that

  607. that's amazing all power over the enemy incredible the

  608. blessings we. Have by the power.

  609. Of the Holy Spirit, and nothing shall hurt you in the end.

  610. You're more than a conqueror. You will live forever.

  611. You're when you die, you're only sleeping until the resurrection

  612. of the dead, and you're in eternity with Jesus.

  613. Nothing in the end will stop the goodness of God in your life,

  614. and yet nevertheless, do not rejoice in this.

  615. That the spirits are subject to you, but rather.

  616. Rejoice because your names are written in heaven.

  617. Disciples listen to Jesus, they trust Jesus, they represent

  618. Jesus, and in it all. They rejoice with Jesus.

  619. This is true joy. You know, if you study.

  620. The the the earthly. Ministry of Jesus in the.

  621. Gospels you will see very. Few moments of rejoicing.

  622. You'll see a lot of breakthrough.

  623. You'll you'll. See him do incredible things.

  624. He will feed 5. Thousand with fish and loaves.

  625. He will heal the sick. He will.

  626. Confound the wise, but he never stops and says, isn't this

  627. amazing? He never makes the end.

  628. Goal. Ministry he doesn't make any

  629. stop on the earthly journey. The last stop his mission as it

  630. says in. Hebrews.

  631. His joy was set. Before him to endure the.

  632. Cross to go all the. Way to the end of.

  633. His life trusting that. True joy was on the other side,

  634. and that is you want to be marked by.

  635. Not just a disciple who's. Who's being used and and going

  636. through the the operations of ministry?

  637. You want to be someone who looks radically different in the

  638. world. You have something that's giving

  639. you. Joy that goes beyond.

  640. Anything in this life? You have a purpose to.

  641. Your life that will not be satisfied in your life.

  642. You have a. A.

  643. A vision for where your. True.

  644. Joy and your true aim and your true goal is that is not ever

  645. going to stop on this side of eternity.

  646. He says here's. Rejoicing I want you to rejoice

  647. that your name is written in the book of heaven.

  648. Jesus gives you a foundation for joy and a.

  649. Future for joy. That nothing in this year or

  650. years to come will shake. True joy.

  651. Is that once you enter into the Kingdom of God and you become

  652. one of his appointed people that represent him wherever?

  653. You go. This life becomes a blink of an

  654. eye. The the the.

  655. Present sufferings can't compare to the eternal glory that awaits

  656. you, that there is somewhere, either just a picture or some

  657. giant book that lives in heaven that has your name written on

  658. it. Because you have placed your.

  659. Life into the hands of Jesus and as.

  660. We put all that together. Let me just remind some of you.

  661. Who are already followers of Jesus, but.

  662. Invite others of you that this is not a message.

  663. That just takes. You know someone who may be

  664. interested in Jesus and and and gives them a more.

  665. Serious desire to follow him. Closely, this is a message that

  666. actually answers the deepest longing of every human soul.

  667. It doesn't matter if you came here and you're like I, I want

  668. to follow Jesus more. Closely or if you're here.

  669. And you're like, I don't believe.

  670. And I'm I'm, I'm, I'm outside the harvest.

  671. Trust me, there are questions that every one of us.

  672. Wrestle with. And this is the answer every

  673. single one of you wrestle with. Who you should actually listen.

  674. To with your life, all of us have an.

  675. Ear to hear, we're all. Trying to figure.

  676. Out who the the the right guide for our life.

  677. Is the answer is Jesus? All of.

  678. US are trying to. Figure out who to trust.

  679. All of us are trying to to say, like, man, I've got this heart

  680. and I don't want to give it away, but I'm also this longing

  681. to be in community and friendship and maybe a

  682. relationship and like who can I trust?

  683. And pastors let me down and and church can get weird and I've

  684. lost friendship. Who can I?

  685. The answer for the longing of the human soul is that you were

  686. made to. Trust Jesus.

  687. And we are all looking from the the time you can all remember.

  688. What's the purpose of your life? When you're sitting on an

  689. airplane and someone says. What?

  690. Do you do? They're asking.

  691. What do you live? For the answer is that you were

  692. made for such a time as this, to live as an ambassador of the

  693. King of Kings. It's the longing of your life

  694. and it will all point you to one of the hardest challenges of

  695. life. When when, when life gets hard

  696. and we're searching for answers and, and we're going through

  697. the. The the the.

  698. Dark night of the soul. Where?

  699. Does rejoicing come from? And here's the answer for the

  700. human soul, Rejoicing doesn't come ultimately in this life.

  701. You were made for another world and Jesus.

  702. People have their names written on the roll call of heaven.

  703. So put it all together and give your life.

  704. To Jesus, listen to him, trust Him, represent him, and live

  705. your. Life to rejoice.

  706. With him for eternity. Thanks for joining us today.
