  1. Well, it is great to see everybody actually in the building today, right?

  2. It's so good to be back with my church family after a week off this past week, and and uh good to have those of you with us today in the building.

  3. I know we've got a group in social circle.

  4. We're still dealing with this COVID-19, so we know a lot of you are still at home uh worshiping with us online.

  5. Uh many of you might be on vacation, and hopefully you're tuning in a little bit.

  6. It's exciting to have our kids back in Kids Grove.

  7. And I know there's not a ton of kids uh right now, maybe families that don't feel comfortable.

  8. But if you are at home, take advantage of the resources we have for our Kids Grove ministry while you're worshiping with us at home.

  9. We're in the second week of this series called Jesus the Unsafe Savior.

  10. And basically we're talking about the identity of Jesus.

  11. A.W.

  12. Tozier says that the most important thing about you in your life is what goes through your mind when you think about who God is.

  13. So it matters.

  14. It matters what you think about God.

  15. Nathan last week, as he as he uh began the series, he quoted uh one of one of my favorite quotes out of the Chronicles of Narnia from C.S.

  16. Lewis.

  17. And as Susan, and she's entered into Narnia, and she hears about Aslan, who is the lion, and he's the Christ figure in the movie.

  18. And she says, she asks this question, is he safe?

  19. She says, I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.

  20. Safe, says Mr.

  21. Beaver.

  22. Who said anything about safe?

  23. Of course, he isn't safe, but he's good.

  24. He's the king, I tell you.

  25. And so it gives us a little insight.

  26. We need to understand Jesus in the biblical context, in a biblical worldview.

  27. A lot of people mistake Jesus for for just being this guy that that's all about peace and love.

  28. And I think even Nathan referred to to that as being kind of the hippie Jesus.

  29. People have different perspectives about who Jesus is and about who God is.

  30. We want to have a biblical worldview.

  31. And so Nathan introduced the series last week out of the passage, I believe it's in Mark 6, where the disciples are in a boat and there's a storm that comes and they are gripped by fear.

  32. Jesus comes to them walking on the water, and as soon as he gets into the boat, he calms the storm.

  33. And Nathan said, There's power in the presence of Jesus.

  34. And he has power over nature.

  35. He has power over the natural realm.

  36. He has power over the wind, over the waves.

  37. He has power over everything that we see in the natural realm.

  38. Well, today we're talking about the spiritual realm.

  39. And we're talking about demonic activity and the darkness that the enemy wants us to be afraid of.

  40. And when we talk about the spiritual realm, depending on your background, maybe what denomination you come from, or maybe what kind of church you grew up in, that can mean a lot of different things, right?

  41. What was taught you about the spiritual realm.

  42. There's extremes, right, on both sides of that.

  43. Some people would deny that there's even a spiritual realm at all, and we just say, hey, what we can't see is if it's if we can't see it, it's not there.

  44. And then other people go to the other extreme and they think there's a demon under every rock, right?

  45. And so the reality is there is a spiritual world that runs parallel to the world that we live in where we can see and we can touch and we can hear.

  46. As a matter of fact, based on what I see in Scripture, that world is more real than the world that we can see and touch, the natural world.

  47. The Apostle Paul speaks to this in Ephesians 6.12.

  48. He says this, he says, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against rulers and against authorities and against cosmic powers over this present darkness against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

  49. So he says, hey, we our battle's not against this natural world.

  50. Our battle is against the spiritual world.

  51. There is a spiritual world that runs parallel to the world we live in.

  52. And we don't want to take one extreme or the other.

  53. C.S.

  54. Lewis addresses this in one of his other uh books called The Screwtape Letters.

  55. He says, there are two equal and opposite errors into which our race, and he's talking about the human race, can fall about the devils.

  56. One is to disbelieve in their existence.

  57. There's no spirits, there's no demons, there's no devils.

  58. The other is to believe and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them.

  59. They themselves are equally pleased by both eras and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.

  60. And so I don't know where you are on that realm.

  61. I I I've I've I've I've walked in villages in Africa, I've I've been in orphanages in places like Romania and Moldova.

  62. I I've been in Haiti, I've been in the Dominican Republic, I've been around some places where I have sensed and I have seen with my own eyes real demonic oppression.

  63. And that world is real.

  64. But here's the good news.

  65. Here's what we're going to talk about this morning is that Jesus rules just as he rules over the natural world.

  66. He can calm the winds, he can calm the waves.

  67. He rules and he reigns over the spiritual realm as well.

  68. Now, and and when I say that, I'm not talking about a Star Wars kind of deal where there's the good side and the bad side, and we hope the good side wins.

  69. No, here's what I'm telling you: because of Jesus, the war has already been won on our behalf.

  70. We are living victoriously right now if we are in Christ.

  71. Because Jesus rules and he reigns over the spiritual realm.

  72. Now, if you've got your Bibles, we're going to be in Mark chapter 5 and the very first verse in Mark 5.

    Mark 5 chapter mention

  73. And here's the context.

  74. Jesus has been ministering and healing and speaking and teaching, and he's probably exhausted physically.

  75. He gets in a boat with his disciples and he crosses over from the west side of the Sea of Galilee to the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee.

  76. And I'll get back to why that's important in a second.

  77. And so that's the context here.

  78. Jesus is in the boat.

  79. It even says that there is a storm that comes, and they do come suddenly on the Sea of Galilee, and he's asleep in the bow of the boat at peace, because he's in control, right?

  80. And it says that he gets to the other side of the area known as the Decapolis or the Garoshenes.

  81. And here's what it says, Mark chapter 5, verse 1.

    Mark 5:1

  82. It says, They came to the other side of the sea to the country of the Garasenes.

  83. And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit.

  84. Here's what you need to know.

  85. And one of the pictures I took myself with a guide while I was in Israel, and he pointed to this hill that I took this picture of, and he said, based on the geography and what we know, this had to be the area where the events from this passage took place.

  86. Now the other picture I want you to see is a complete picture of the Sea of Galilee.

  87. And you'll see on that eastern side is where Jesus and the disciples landed after they had crossed from the other side.

  88. And I'm going to tell you in a second why that's important.

  89. On the western side, that's where the Jewish people lived.

  90. And on the eastern side was the place where what we call uh the Gentile people.

  91. Most of us in this room would be known as Gentiles unless you were born as a uh in a Hebrew family or a Jewish family.

  92. And so that's important.

  93. In a second, I'm gonna tell you why.

  94. And so in verse 3, here's what it says: it says, talking about this man that met Jesus as he gets out of the boat, he lived among the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with the chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart and he broke the shackles in pieces.

  95. No one had the strength to subdue him.

  96. Night and day among the tombs and on and on the mountains, he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones.

  97. Now, here's the question that I asked when I read this passage Is how did this man get to this place in his life?

  98. I mean, did he go to bed one night healthy, mentally, emotionally, spiritually?

  99. And did he wake up the next morning possessed by demons?

  100. I mean, that that could be possible.

  101. Or maybe was it a slow process where emotionally, mentally, physically, he slowly became influenced, oppressed, and then ultimately possessed by these demonic forces.

  102. I don't know the answer to that question, but I will tell you that I came across something from an old Puritan preacher by the name of Richard Baxter.

  103. He preached his sermon, listen to this, back in the 1670s, so late 17th century, Richard Baxter preached the sermon that was titled The Cure of Melancholy and Overmuch Sorrow.

  104. Now, if I was going to preach or somebody was going to preach this sermon today, it would basically be How can you overcome depression with the gospel?

  105. That would be the title of the message.

  106. That's what they referred to as melancholy.

  107. Charles Spurgeon referred to depression as the dark night of the soul.

  108. But Baxter speaks about this idea of depression.

  109. And he says, according to the Bible, if you are depressed, there could be maybe four different bases or reasons for how depression can influence your life.

  110. And the first might be a physiological basis for your depression.

  111. And it's because you need good nutrition.

  112. He said the response might be eating well, getting some rest, maybe taking some type of medicine.

  113. Secondly, he said it might be a moral issue.

  114. It might be a moral issue.

  115. It might be that you have been overcome with guilt and shame, maybe from sin.

  116. And he says you need confession, forgiveness, and the grace of God.

  117. He said, thirdly, you might have a mental or a psychological basis for your depression.

  118. You might be extremely downcast, extremely discouraged, dealing with anxiety.

  119. You're weary, worn out from life emotionally.

  120. And in that case, you need love.

  121. You need support.

  122. You need community.

  123. What we might would say in this day and age is you might need a little bit of counsel and you need some fellowship and you need some presence of God in your life.

  124. But here's what he says fourthly.

  125. He said the fourth influence of depression could be evil, demonic roots somehow being manifest in our life.

  126. And he said, in that case, you need the word of God, you need prayer, and you need the presence of God, and you might ultimately need deliverance from God.

  127. And here's what Baxter says.

  128. Baxter says, he says, he says, the world has a lot of different responses for melancholy or depression or the dark night of the soul.

  129. One response would be, and when I say, I'm talking about the world's responses without God.

  130. One response might be going to the doctor, and the doctor says, hey, just take this pill.

  131. Now let me let me give you my understanding.

  132. Medicine is not bad.

  133. If you've got depression or if you've got some issues with anxiety, medication, to me, in my opinion, as a pastor, it can be a gift from God.

  134. My point being is the world says, just take the pill.

  135. You don't need God.

  136. They might even say, hey, you you just need to find a good therapist.

  137. It's a psychological remedy for your dark night of the soul.

  138. You need to find a good therapist.

  139. And if you just find the right therapist, and you go see him enough and have good counsel, man, that'll be the answer to your problems.

  140. And then the third remedy would be maybe, maybe a religious remedy.

  141. And when I say religious, I'm not talking about an accurate biblical response.

  142. I'm talking about some people who are cloaked in religion that just say, hey, it's just behavior modification is what you need.

  143. You just need to learn how to live better, live more of a moral good life.

  144. I would equate that with the the Bible, in the Bible times, the Pharisees.

  145. Just live good and you'll be okay.

  146. And here's the point Baxter's making.

  147. He's saying, listen, he said, sometimes the issues that we deal with are way more complex than just this.

  148. Because evil and misery and sin and pain are complex issues and that can lead to demonic influence in our life.

  149. So who knows how long it took for this man to get in this condition?

  150. Who knows what he went through to get to this place?

  151. All I know is that it sounds extremely hopeless and desperate to me.

  152. He's living among the tombs.

  153. And based on what we would understand, he's literally living naked.

  154. He's out of his mind, screaming day and night.

  155. It says that he would take stones and cut himself, and he would live among the tombs.

  156. Now, to the Jewish people, living among the tombs would have been the worst thing in the world because if you were exposed to dead bodies, you would have been considered spiritually unclean.

  157. And so they didn't want to have anything to do with them, even though they were the people of the Bible and the people that knew God closest.

  158. And so he was shackled with chains and he had some kind of supernatural power and he would break free from the chains.

  159. They couldn't even keep him tied up or chained up.

  160. Their best efforts didn't work.

  161. Night and day among the tombs, he's screaming out.

  162. He's living isolated, completely alone, like a wild beast.

  163. Hopeless, joyless, desperate.

  164. Satan had gotten such a grip on his life that he was now bringing harm to his own physical body.

  165. And we might say, man.

  166. I'm glad that's not me.

  167. But here, let me tell you, let me let me make this clear.

  168. Outside of Jesus Christ, outside of the liberating grace that Jesus provides to all of us, we aren't that different from this man.

  169. We might be clothed, we might be in our right minds, we might be able to go to work, we might be able to function, but without the redeeming work and grace of Jesus Christ that is provided through his life and his death and his resurrection, we really aren't that different from this man.

  170. The biggest need he had was to be able to break free from his spiritual bondage.

  171. The biggest need that you and I have is to break free from our spiritual bondage.

  172. And the good news is Jesus rules and reigns over the spiritual realm.

  173. Just as he rules and reigns over the natural realm.

  174. See, I love the words of Jesus in John 10, 10.

  175. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

  176. He wants to ruin your life.

  177. He does not want you to have joy.

  178. He does not want you to have the presence of God.

  179. He does not want you to have the peace of God.

  180. He does not want you to have the joy of God.

  181. He wants to steal and kill and destroy.

  182. But Jesus, thank God, says, I have come that you might have joy.

  183. And that you might have it, not just joy, but have abundant joy.

  184. And so we may not think that we're possessed by demons, but if if we're outside of Christ, there's really not that much that separates us from this man.

  185. Apart from Jesus, destruction is our destiny.

  186. Apart from Jesus, destruction is our destiny.

  187. That's why I have to preach the gospel to myself every day in the midst of COVID-19, in the midst of racial unrest, in the midst of a world that's just chaotic right now.

  188. Here's what I can say with courage is that I have hope.

  189. I am not afraid to die.

  190. Paul says to live is Christ, to die is gain, right?

  191. Now I would, I would, I may not want to die right now.

  192. I mean, God may not be finished with me.

  193. I hope she wants me to be around, right?

  194. And so so that that that's a y'all y'all pray for me.

  195. That's a prayer request.

  196. But but listen, I listen, I know that apart from Jesus, destruction is my destiny.

  197. And I may I may live a long, healthy, physical life.

  198. But without Christ, eternity offers me the same condition that this man is in in this story.

  199. Matter of fact, the Bible uses words to describe our life outside of Christ, whether we're like this man or maybe whether we we're a little bit better off mentally and emotionally, right?

  200. We're described as being dead.

  201. The apostle Paul in Colossians 2.13 says, and you who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all of our trespasses.

  202. He says we're blind.

  203. He told Nicodemus in John 3.3, he says, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, you can't even see the kingdom of God.

  204. He says, We have hearts of stone outside of a relationship with God.

  205. He told the prophet Ezekiel, Ezekiel says 36, 26, he says, I will give you a new heart and a new spirit I will put within you, and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

  206. He says in Scripture that we're outside, if we're outside of Christ, he says we're hostile.

  207. We're enemies of God, unable to please him.

  208. Romans 8, 7 and 8 says, For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law.

  209. Indeed, it cannot.

  210. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

  211. Romans 6, it says, it says we're slaves to sin.

  212. And so we're in desperate need of God's redemption, desperate need of God's forgiveness, desperate need of a work of God in our lives.

  213. And we might as well be possessed.

  214. Outside of Christ.

  215. Outside of Christ, we're not really that different from this man.

  216. God's got a plan for each and every one of us.

  217. God loves us.

  218. God is for us.

  219. We sing it.

  220. He is for us.

  221. He is for your kids.

  222. He is for your marriage.

  223. He is for your family.

  224. He is for you.

  225. But before we can be used by God, before we can understand our missional responsibility, that we are to be ambassadors in Christ, we are to represent God to other people in this world.

  226. We must first understand our own desperate need of freedom from spiritual bondage.

  227. And let's go on to the story, verse 6.

  228. And it says, when he saw Jesus from afar, talking about the man.

  229. He's in bondage.

  230. When he saw Jesus from afar, he fell down before him and crying out with a loud voice, he said, What have you to do with me, Jesus, son of the most high God?

  231. I adjure you by God, do not torment me.

  232. And so here's the interesting thing.

  233. A demon-possessed man, the demons inside of him are believers in a power, in a God.

  234. They speak.

  235. I adjure you by God, do not torment me.

  236. For he was saying to him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.

  237. So Jesus says, Come out.

  238. By the way, he didn't say in the name of God, come out.

  239. You know why he didn't have to say in the name of God?

  240. Because he is God.

  241. So he says, Come out of this man, you unclean spirit.

  242. And Jesus asked him, What is your name?

  243. And he replied, the demonic force, My name is Legion, for we are many.

  244. And he begged him earnestly not to send him out of the country.

  245. See, the people would have wanted to stay away from this man because he's possessed and he's influenced, and they they they couldn't they couldn't predict what he was going to do.

  246. And as a matter of fact, that word legion is referred to a Roman group of soldiers that would have between been been between 5,000 and 6,000 soldiers.

  247. So that's the reference to the number of demons or the power of the demons that were inside of this man.

  248. And so this man falls down before Jesus.

  249. And we know that Jesus has the ability to calm the wind and the waves and the storms and these demons, and this man falls down before him.

  250. There's something significant about Jesus.

  251. And his body covered in blood, cut, he's naked, his hair grown out, he's unshaven, unkempt.

  252. And just imagine how bad it was.

  253. Verse 11, now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside.

  254. And they begged him, the demons begged him, send us to the pigs.

  255. Let us enter them.

  256. Jewish people don't want to have anything to do with pigs.

  257. They don't eat pork.

  258. They would have seen them as unclean.

  259. And so and so it was the Romans were in charge.

  260. They had their heel on the backs of the necks of the Jewish people.

  261. And so they would refer to the Romans as pigs.

  262. So there's some type of significance in this story that just goes beyond the surface.

  263. But whatever it is, it says in verse 13, so he gave them permission, and the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs and the herd, numbering about 2,000.

  264. And they rushed down the steep bank.

  265. That was the picture I showed you.

  266. It's the only place on that shoreline where this could have happened, where those tombs would have been.

  267. They rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea.

  268. In Luke chapter four, which is Jesus sets the captives free, right?

  269. Luke chapter four, he says, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me.

  270. Because he has anointed me because to proclaim good news to the poor.

  271. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

  272. Jesus came to set the captives free.

  273. This man is free.

  274. He's clothed and he's in his right mind.

  275. He's been set free, he's liberated.

  276. But there's more to this, and you've got to read this story in context with the rest of the gospel of Mark and the rest of the story of Jesus and the rest of the life of his events.

  277. Because ultimately, what happens here is Jesus exchanges places with this demonic possessed man.

  278. See, if you read to the end of Mark, Jesus is the one.

  279. Jesus is the one.

  280. Jesus is the one who is hanging naked on the cross.

  281. Do you see it?

  282. It's the exchange that takes place, and we call it the gospel.

  283. Jesus is the one that ends up taking all upon himself evil and justice and death and demonic power.

  284. He absorbs it all.

  285. And through his life and his death and his resurrection, he wipes out all of evil so evil cannot wipe us out.

  286. Yes.

  287. They just clap.

  288. They just clap.

  289. I can't wait till there's more people in this room.

  290. Then one day they'll they'll find out what how good things are, how good the music is, and and and and you know, even in spite of the preaching, and we'll come back, right?

  291. That's how Jesus dealt with evil.

  292. That's how Jesus dealt with demonic power.

  293. He died on the cross to pay for our sins.

  294. He died on the cross to set the prisoners free.

  295. He died on the cross to relieve us of our misery.

  296. The secret to how evil is defeated is through the power of Jesus.

  297. And if He, if you could understand, if Jesus could sit in that seat right in front of where you are and look you eyeball to eyeball.

  298. And he'd say, I did this because you are valuable.

  299. I did this because I love you.

  300. I did this so you would be worthy.

  301. I did this so you wouldn't have to give in to the insecurity anymore.

  302. I did this so you could have confidence even in the midst of chaos.

  303. I did this because you matter and you have value.

  304. I did this so you could be an example to your children, and generations could be impacted.

  305. You matter to God.

  306. You matter to Jesus.

  307. So he sets the man free.

  308. Yes, amen.

  309. And so the scripture is full of descriptions of how our identity changes once we're in Christ.

  310. You're not demon-influenced, you're not a sinner anymore, you're not worthless anymore.

  311. He says things like this about you.

  312. He looks at you and he sees you as a child of God in John 1.12.

  313. He says we're friends of God, John 15 and 15.

  314. He says, we've been justified, Romans 5.1.

  315. We are one with him in spirit, 1 Corinthians 6, 17.

  316. We belong to God.

  317. We are adopted as his children, Ephesians 1.

  318. Redeemed and forgiven of all of our sins, Colossians 1.

  319. We are complete in Christ, Colossians 2.

  320. We have direct access to the Heavenly Father through Christ.

  321. Hebrews chapter 4.

    Hebrews 4 chapter mention

  322. We are free from condemnation.

  323. Amen.

  324. Romans 8:1.

    Romans 8:1

  325. God is working all things for our good.

  326. Romans 8, 28.

  327. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

  328. Romans 8, verses 31 through 39.

    Romans 8:31–39

  329. Philippians 3 says, we are citizens in heaven.

  330. I am God's temple, Paul says.

  331. I'm seated with Jesus in the heavenly realm right now.

  332. Ephesians 2.

  333. Ephesians 2, 10 says, you are God's workmanship created for good works.

  334. 2 Corinthians 5, Paul says, you're ambassadors for Christ.

  335. Wow.

  336. Wow.

  337. Now listen, if you're watching online, you need to type in the chat right now, amen.

  338. Because somebody in here won't say it, right?

  339. Thank you.

  340. God sets us free.

  341. But he doesn't just set us free to be free.

  342. He didn't set us free for no for no reason.

  343. He he sets us free for mission.

  344. He goes on in verse 14.

  345. Here's what happens.

  346. He says, the herdsman fled and told all that had happened in the city and in the country.

  347. And people came to see what it was that had happened.

  348. And they came to Jesus and they saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had the legion sitting there, clothed and in his right mind.

  349. And listen to what it says.

  350. This is interesting.

  351. And they were afraid.

  352. They knew something was going on.

  353. And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs.

  354. And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region, which is very interesting.

  355. And I think the simple reason that they were afraid and they asked Jesus to leave is because they just saw their whole economy run off a cliff into the Sea of Galilee.

  356. And you know what that tells me?

  357. Thank God that God cares more about people than he does about money.

  358. And so they they they run Jesus off.

  359. They ask him to leave.

  360. Now, this man is faced with a decision, and he makes, he he does what I would want to do.

  361. Verse 18, as he, Jesus, was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with them.

  362. He wanted to go with Jesus.

  363. Who wouldn't?

  364. But Jesus doesn't permit him.

  365. It says he did not permit him, but he said, Listen, you go home to your friends and you tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.

  366. And it says he went away and began to preach.

  367. He began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

  368. So here's what happens.

  369. He said, Jesus, you've just set me free.

  370. I want to go where you go.

  371. You are obviously powerful.

  372. You are obviously different.

  373. There is something other than us about you, and we want to be with you.

  374. And that would be natural.

  375. But here's what he says: he says, No, you've got a mission.

  376. You go back to your people.

  377. And the word there is oikos, which is household, neighborhood, uh, uh cul de sac, a street.

  378. It's the people in the circle of relationships where you do life in the 20th century.

  379. It's work, it's school, it's the people that live close to you.

  380. It might be your extended family.

  381. And deliverance from sin always leads to a deployment in demission.

  382. It always leads us to share what Jesus has done.

  383. Now, I don't have time to go into this right now, but but if you kept reading along, you would find out that Jesus comes back to this very place in Mark chapter 7, just two chapters later, and it says they receive him with love.

    Mark 7 chapter mention

  384. So what's different?

  385. Hey, we want you to leave.

  386. You just cast demons out of this, out of this demon-possessed man.

  387. We don't want to have anything to do with you.

  388. We're afraid.

  389. Two chapters later, you know why?

  390. Because this man had begun to lead all his friends and his family to Jesus to the point that the whole town changed their attitude about who Jesus was.

  391. Which is why we are here.

  392. When I say we, those of us that have been set free, those of us that are the body of Christ, those of us that are the called out, the elect, the assembly of God.

  393. We are here not just to sing songs and hopefully say, oh man, what a cool service that was.

  394. What a cool hip, Pastor, we have in social circle.

  395. Right?

  396. We're here simply to be encouraged to go back out and to share this hope that we have found, and to know and to have the confidence that the light of Jesus that now resides in us, it will push back the darkness.

  397. And so that's why we have emphasized this campaign called Bless Every Home.

  398. And if you don't know what that is, go to our website and there's a there's a place where you can click on our website and it will explain it to you exactly what it is.

  399. But basically, it is an opportunity for you to have to be able to pray for your neighbors every day by name.

  400. I walk every morning, just pretty much at least six days, five, six days a week.

  401. I walk my neighborhood, it's two and a half miles.

  402. It takes me none of your business how long to do it, but I walk it.

  403. And because of Bless Every Home, I have the names of my neighbors right here on my phone.

  404. And I get an email every morning with five neighbors' names.

  405. And it allows me to pray for them by name as I pass their house.

  406. You know why?

  407. Because God didn't put me here redeemed just so I can take the joy and the compassion and the mercy and the love of God and keep it to myself.

  408. He wants me to pass it on.

  409. So I pray for my neighbors.

  410. Some of them are believers, some of them are in our church.

  411. I mean, they're already saved.

  412. I mean, Dennis and Tara, I still pray for y'all, even though you're already here.

  413. I pray for y'all to be blessed.

  414. And McKenzie, for y'all to be blessed.

  415. But I pray for the neighbors that maybe I don't know that well, or maybe I don't know them enough, but I know that they're not getting up on Sundays and going to church.

  416. They're not connected, they haven't benefited from the grace that you and I have benefited from.

  417. So listen, deliverance always leads to deployment.

  418. So listen, in the midst of chaos, in the midst of COVID, in the midst of a world that's chaotic, where the enemy doesn't want us to live in peace.

  419. He wants us to be at each other's throats.

  420. He wants us to be fighting over ethnicity and whatever division politics.

  421. In the midst, how about a group of people that would look beyond all those superficial things and understand that Jesus inside of us is the light that has the ability to push back darkness?

  422. Amen.

  423. Let's pray together.

  424. Father, thank you for your goodness, thank you for your grace.

  425. Thank you, Lord.

  426. I just I think of the people in my life that influenced me toward Christ.

  427. My grandmother, Agnes Crow, my brother, Eddie Butcher, my other, my older brother Butch, my family members that that had influence on me and have influenced me in so many ways.

  428. Thank you for those people.

  429. Lord, let us be people that will pass on the grace and the mercy that's been shared with us.

  430. May we be people that are set free.

  431. And I want to encourage you, if you've never put your faith in Christ, this morning, the gospel is simple.

  432. It's simple.

  433. It's expensive because Christ had to die for it, but it's simple.

  434. It's just admitting that you need a savior and believing in what God provided through the life and the death and the resurrection of Jesus and calling on the name of Jesus, confessing his name and confessing him as Lord and Savior of your life.

  435. And you just simply pray that prayer, Lord, would you save me?

  436. Would you come and live inside of me, change me?

  437. God, would you deliver me from oppression and depression and all these things that bring anxiety and chaos in my life in the midst of a chaos filled and anxiety-filled world?

  438. I want you to come and bring your peace.

  439. For those of you that are part of the church, Father, would you give us courage?

  440. Give us resolve to understand our mission.

  441. And would you use us to share the good news of Jesus with those people around you?

  442. Around us.

  443. Our family members, our friends, our neighbors, coworkers, classmates.

  444. Lord, we pray for our children that they would understand how valued and important they are to their Heavenly Father.

  445. God, thank you.

  446. Thank you.

  447. Would you just say the name of Jesus with me?

  448. Would you say the name of Jesus with me?

  449. One, two, three.

  450. Jesus.

  451. Let's just do it again.

  452. One, two, three.

  453. Can we say it one more time?

  454. One, two, three.

  455. Jesus.

  456. Let's all stand.

  457. Let's celebrate his goodness.

  458. Let's worship and lift up his name.
