  1. Wonderful to be with you. Isn't it great? I like

  2. being here. So there should be a PowerPoint coming.

  3. As many of you know, I've had a tradition of

  4. many years. And I know that you're not so interested

  5. in seeing me. You're interested in seeing the

  6. family. So those of you who weren't here yesterday,

  7. that's... My wonderful girl with her husband.

  8. They're now in Melbourne, in Sydney. Those are

  9. the three grandchildren. Three. Look, that's

  10. little Cooper. I come from Oxford, so we like

  11. having a mini Cooper in the family. Next one.

  12. We cock through very fast. Or as fast as it will

  13. help us go. That's my boy with his wife and I'm

  14. going to have my fourth grandchild in September

  15. and at last I get one in England. Yay! And so

  16. what am I going to speak this morning? Well I

  17. want to speak this morning about think big. Think

  18. big. Big. I'm going to preach two different messages,

  19. so the next service will be slightly different.

  20. I'm not sure how much of this I'll get done,

  21. but I pray that Jesus will communicate what needs

  22. to be done. We already had that prophetic word

  23. this morning. Come on, take the ceilings off.

  24. Take the lid off. Time to break. forth. And this

  25. word really began to resonate in me last year

  26. when I was up in Pennsylvania and I walked into

  27. a church where I was going to minister and a

  28. man came out the prayer room and he got right

  29. into my personal space and he said, Rachel, God's

  30. got a message for you. Think big or you'll limit

  31. me. And so immediately I thought this was for

  32. me. And I thought, this is my message to me.

  33. But I suddenly realized as he was saying it,

  34. Holy Spirit said, no, I've got a message for

  35. you to carry. And it was when I had arrived in

  36. America and I just felt that God was saying,

  37. come on, it's time to think big. Because you

  38. see, when we're kingdom people, we always have

  39. to live and think in the opposite spirit to the

  40. spirit of the world in which we live. And so

  41. there's downsides contained, pull in, be careful,

  42. push down, hold in, withdraw. But actually Holy

  43. Spirit is saying, no, this is a season for advance,

  44. acceleration, increase, think big, stretch out.

  45. Don't hold back. Think big. So I'm thinking about

  46. this and going back to my hotel room and my son

  47. has just emailed me and he says, the girl that

  48. you led to the Lord two years ago, Emma, has

  49. just got married and we need the next one up.

  50. Now, I've done a lot of weddings in Oxford. Over

  51. 80, Gordon and I did in five years, but never

  52. yet have I seen that as a backdrop to the wedding.

  53. So I'm, dear Emma, I'm really sorry, but you

  54. didn't catch me first. It was the backdrop. I'm

  55. thinking, oh my word. Think big. Say it with

  56. me this morning. Then I moved to the next place.

  57. And as I'm walking in, a man comes out the prayer

  58. room. I like men that pray and hear God. And

  59. he comes right out and he said, I'm really sorry

  60. if this seems strange, but I've got to get close

  61. and personal. And God said, I'm to say it three

  62. times in your face. Think big, think big, think

  63. big. So I've got to say it three times in your

  64. face. Think big, think big. Why? Because you

  65. see, I believe God is calling a people who will

  66. inspire hope. And if we can't think like God

  67. thinks, how can we inspire hope? Faith is the

  68. thing. The substance of things hoped for. And

  69. so you see, God is asking you, can you see the

  70. big picture? Or have you become contained and

  71. limited in your understanding? Are you only able

  72. to look at the immediate crisis at your foot?

  73. Or can you see the big story in the journey?

  74. How many of you have to admit that in difficult

  75. times, something has been born? Something's come

  76. full. Out of crisis, God seems to bring a catalyst

  77. full and something does come from it. Matthew

  78. 22, 37 to 38. And Jesus replied, you shall love

  79. the Lord your God with all your heart, with all

  80. your soul and with all your mind. This is the

  81. first and greatest commandment. Those of you

  82. who came to the seminar yesterday, you'll know

  83. I'm a mean preacher because I like giving you

  84. work. I like making you go away and do the thinking.

  85. I don't like to be too prescriptive. You answer

  86. the questions. You sort it in your world. I want

  87. to say, how are you, and this is your homework

  88. from this morning, how are you going to upgrade,

  89. go forward in the way you love God with your

  90. mind? A lot of our teaching is about heart issues.

  91. Would you agree? But you see, God doesn't say,

  92. love the Lord with all your heart, then you get

  93. 80 gold stars. Love God with your mind, you get

  94. 20. Somehow in the church we feel that if we

  95. love God with our heart, that's better than if

  96. we love God with our mind. But I think, come

  97. on church, it's time for an upgrade, an advancement

  98. of using what's between our ears. How many of

  99. you know the devil likes to use what's between

  100. our ears? Many of us get messed up with the way

  101. we think. Would you agree? And so God says, come

  102. on, it's thinking big time. If you turn to Colossians

    Colossians 3:2

  103. chapter 3 verse 2, in verse 1 it says set your

  104. heart, but in verse 2 it says, read it with me

  105. from the screen, set your mind on things that

  106. are above, not on things that are on the earth.

  107. That word to set literally is an intentional,

  108. almost like setting your GPS. It's like you're

  109. making an intentional decision to track a way

  110. of thinking. Set your mind deliberately, intentionally.

  111. I was flying in. I'm afraid I do live a lot of

  112. time on an airplane. But I was really excited.

  113. I was returning home to London, been away a long

  114. time. And in my dream, I'm thinking, you know,

  115. bright, sunny day. Let's see the sunshine. I

  116. packed my coat, maybe that was part of it. And

  117. at 10 ,000 feet, London looked awesome. It was

  118. clear, blue, beautiful. I could see for miles.

  119. And then we began slowly descending and the captain

  120. comes on, you know, we'll be ready to land in

  121. 15 minutes. And then it's bump, bump, bump, bump,

  122. hit the runway. And it's doom and gloom, more

  123. Seattle weather. And I thought, what happened

  124. to the awesome day at 10 ,000 feet? And you see,

  125. it was about where I was looking. Think big or

  126. you're going to limit. Set your mind on the things

  127. above. Don't have your reference point from earth

  128. below. God wants to give you a word. Put your

  129. head in the clouds. Begin to get. heaven's perspective

  130. on earth. And so often we think, oh, that girl,

  131. she's real irritated. She's just got her head

  132. in the clouds. No, I believe as a church, we

  133. need to get a different perspective. Then it's

  134. not so selfishly centered. Thinking about my

  135. crisis, my world, my thing. But when we get the

  136. big picture in our journey, we can think big

  137. and be generous. Would you agree with me? Unfortunately,

  138. our natural way of thinking usually has a default

  139. setting. And we usually tend to think negative

  140. rather than positive. You in America are much

  141. better than us British, but you can still be

  142. negative rather than positive. You can still

  143. think more your weakness rather than your strength.

  144. Most of us are still happier to say, these are

  145. my weaknesses, than we are to say, I'm awesome,

  146. these are my strengths. But you see, God says,

  147. I've given everyone one talent, some five, some

  148. ten. So there's some amazing strength out here.

  149. So how many ten talenters have we got? You know,

  150. if I say, show me the one talents, yeah. How

  151. many tens? Oh, everyone. Because we've got a

  152. default setting. We've got a wrong understanding

  153. of what it means to be arrogant. And what it

  154. means to be confident in who Jesus has made me.

  155. Come on, we need to set our mind into what God

  156. has called us to be. And it's not that we say,

  157. oh, look at me, aren't I clever? But God and

  158. me together are an amazing combination. If I

  159. really let God in my world, what could really

  160. happen? Set your mind on things above. Because

  161. if we don't do it, we end up in the wrong place.

  162. How many of you know that? If you look at Philippians

    Philippians 3:19

  163. chapter 3 verse 19, it says this, their end is

  164. destruction. Well, how did they get there? What

  165. was that journey? Well, let's read the rest of

  166. the verse. Their God is their belly and they

  167. glory in their shame with their mind set on earthly

  168. things. So you see, you set your mind in the

  169. wrong place. Guess what? You end up at the wrong

  170. destination. So if you're just thinking all the

  171. time, what's happening at my feet? What's going

  172. on here? What's going on there? Your end is destruction

  173. because you get the wrong worldview. How many

  174. of you know what I'm talking about? And so Jesus

  175. has sent me with a message and I found it fascinating.

  176. It was landing in America, in Pennsylvania, that

  177. birthplace, you know. He said, you've got a message.

  178. Think big. You're going to limit me. Think big.

  179. So how do we set that mind? What do we need to

  180. do? Well, Romans 8 verse 5 and 6 says this. I'm

    Romans 8:5

  181. sorry if I'm going fast, but the clock is not

  182. my friend today. One, two, three. is life and

  183. peace. Amen. So I'm going to set my mind on a

  184. spirit way of thinking. Why don't you just pray

  185. with me this morning? Holy Spirit, help me set

  186. my mind and my thinking on the Spirit. In Jesus'

  187. name. Amen. Because you see, thinking big is

  188. not dangerous and it's not irresponsible if it's

  189. inspired by Holy Spirit. In fact, it's utterly

  190. necessary. If we're not thinking bigger than

  191. who we are and our ability, then we've got that

  192. ceiling lid on us. We are contained. We're only

  193. living half the life that God has called us to

  194. live. Every dream that you have from God should

  195. seem impossible. Because it should be bigger

  196. than you. How many of you know what I'm talking

  197. about? Because God puts your head in the clouds.

  198. He shows you the big picture, big story. And

  199. the dreams given to you are meant to take a lifetime

  200. to fulfill. So where does common sense fit in?

  201. You know, because then we think, well, you know,

  202. let's have some rationale. Let's process this.

  203. We come from Oxford. And I didn't really know

  204. the word process until I went to Oxford. But

  205. in Oxford, everyone, it's process. And of course,

  206. there is wisdom in counsel. I'm not saying that.

  207. But if we already downgrade and delete everything

  208. because it doesn't make sense. then we lose so

  209. much of the common sense of the Holy Spirit.

  210. What is common sense? You've got a whole life

  211. to live that dream that God put in you and it

  212. will take your life to hit it. Oscar Wilde, this

  213. is your Oxford moment. Oscar Wilde said this

  214. and I love it. Common sense is no more common

  215. than general knowledge is general. In other words...

  216. How many of you have noticed your common sense

  217. doesn't seem to be somebody else's? Maybe you

  218. employ someone new and what to you is stark obvious

  219. to them is rocket science. And you think, what

  220. is your problem? That's just normal common sense.

  221. But you see, it's the same in the church. I believe

  222. that once we get Holy Spirit revelation, what

  223. to us just becomes part of our nature, becomes

  224. a normal way of thinking, a normal perspective

  225. of life, a normal obedience and character value

  226. system. To us, it's common sense. To others,

  227. they're going, whoa, that's amazing. How many

  228. of you know what I'm talking about? And you need

  229. to realize you're carrying something amazing.

  230. What to you is obvious to so many around you

  231. is amazing revelation. You've got to start to

  232. think big. Isaiah 55 verse 8 says this. And if

    Isaiah 55:8

  233. you look at the Hebrew, the way that's constructed,

  234. it's quite a poetical language. And it is more

  235. than just that. fleeting thoughts the way you

  236. think is not. It's the whole process of thinking,

  237. the whole way you come to make a decision. God

  238. says, where you start, process, think. Your whole

  239. thinking journey is not my thinking journey.

  240. Your whole thought process is not my thought

  241. process. Your whole way of approaching your decision

  242. is not my way. I want to take you up. I want

  243. you to set your mind. I want to teach you to

  244. think big. Come on, church. It's time to love

  245. the Lord your God with all your mind. So what

  246. about these big thinkers? What about advancing,

  247. upgrading? What about stretching out, staking

  248. ground? What about that? Well, it takes a different

  249. way of thinking. How many of you know? We can't

  250. think small if God gives us large. We've got

  251. to shift, upgrade. And I believe that there is

  252. a Daniel season coming. If you think of Daniel,

  253. he was accelerated, advanced right into positions

  254. of prominence in a time when his nation needed

  255. some serious thinkers. They needed, there was

  256. the whole kingdom of Babylon going through all

  257. their shifting and changing. And he was a refugee.

  258. He didn't have the status. He didn't, you think,

  259. have the grading. But you know that young boy,

  260. he got into God. He used his heart to love God,

  261. but he used his mind to love God. And when they

  262. did the assessment for Harvard, Yale, Princeton,

  263. Oxford, of course, he came out 10 times better

  264. than any other applicant. He creamed it. Because

  265. he had learned to let God expand his whole way

  266. of thinking. And then if you read in Daniel chapter

    Daniel 5 chapter mention

  267. 5, the king answers and says to Daniel, you're

  268. Daniel. You're one of those refugees. You're

  269. one of those marginal people. But I've heard

  270. great reports about you. I've heard that the

  271. spirit of the gods is on you. Now you might not

  272. like the language. It's a bit like saying you

  273. channel power. You're a bit of a new ager. But

  274. all he's trying to do is find language for what

  275. he sees as being supernatural. remember I got

  276. into a train cabin one time, traveling late at

  277. night to get to a conference when my plane had

  278. been delayed. And a young man had come to collect

  279. me because all the other speakers had been taken

  280. to the retreat center. As I got onto this train

  281. cabin in Norway, I sort of gate crashed a goth

  282. party. Do you know what I mean by goths? You

  283. know, the black guy. And Norwegians are big dudes.

  284. So there's about this six foot eight goth guy

  285. with his back standing in the people doing whatever

  286. at midnight. And so I'm with this guy and I can

  287. see him sort of freeze and think, oh, help. And

  288. at that moment, the big dude swings around. He

  289. goes, respect. I thought, I like that sentiment.

  290. And he looks at me and said, I like the power

  291. you're channeling. It's strong. I believe that

  292. something needs to shift. We need to think bigger

  293. rather than being victim. Actually, the greater

  294. is he that's in us, that's in the world. There's

  295. something that God is setting his people in places

  296. of influence. And I believe kings, people in

  297. authority are going to say, wow, the spirit of

  298. the gods is in you. There's light, there's understanding,

  299. excellent wisdom. And then I love the end of

  300. verse 15. It says, I've been told that you know

  301. how to interpret problems and solve problems.

  302. How many problem solvers? How many of you got

  303. a problem on your desk in your workplace? How

  304. many of you need some divine upgrades for solutions?

  305. I believe if you will take faith, this is a Daniel

  306. season. Come on, think big. Don't see containment

  307. as limitation. See it as elevation. See it as

  308. breakthrough. Say, oh God, I thank you that you're

  309. going to upgrade me. I'm thanking you for divine

  310. solution finding. Does that make sense to you

  311. this morning? That God wants to enter that world

  312. with you. So at one place we're going to be amazing

  313. minds, but I believe at the same time, and this

  314. is a paradox of our Christian life, we're foolish

  315. minds too. At one place we grow up and we're

  316. going to stun people with amazing wisdom, insight

  317. and problem solving. And I want to prophesy,

  318. come on some of you men and women in your marketplace,

  319. in your job places, where you need problem solving

  320. for management issues. Download it. Think big.

  321. Don't say, oh dear, back to work. Jesus wants

  322. to help you think. But we're always going to

  323. be foolish. Because you see, our understanding

  324. of Jesus Christ. Just messes with people's heads.

  325. We broke bread this morning. The whole understanding

  326. of the bread and the wine does not make sense.

  327. How many of you know? And people always get to

  328. fight it. We read in 1 Corinthians chapter 1,

    1 Corinthians 1 chapter mention

  329. 18 to 25. For the message of the cross is foolishness

  330. to those headed to destruction. But we who have

  331. been saved, we know. We know in our knower that

  332. we know. It's the very power of God. And when

  333. we preach, I know Jesus. He was crucified for

  334. me. People around us get offended. And the Gentiles

  335. say, oh, that's nonsense. They can't get it.

  336. But what I want to say to you is I believe it's

  337. a harvest time for the West Coast. On Friday

  338. night, Helen did an awesome job preaching with

  339. the young people. I don't know how many of you

  340. were here. But 14 people came and gave their

  341. lives to Jesus. Absolutely new people. That's

  342. salvation. And Dave and the others said they

  343. were newbies. Isn't that fantastic? And as I

  344. thought, 14, we're in the year 2014. And I felt

  345. God say, new decade, one for every year. This

  346. is a sign to you, a decade of harvest. Get ready.

  347. Think big. But so often we get ourselves in a

  348. mess because we try to explain things that can't

  349. be explained. I cannot explain how the blood

  350. of Jesus makes you clean. But I know it works.

  351. I cannot explain why it is the mercy of God to

  352. take his son and crucify him. But it works. And

  353. this is my story. This is my song. And I'm not

  354. ashamed of it. And we're going to think big.

  355. But we're going to think foolish. And stun the

  356. world with the brilliance. You see, as I said,

  357. we live in Oxford and I've had students and they

  358. confront you and I love it. And so I'm a scientist

  359. by background, a clinical biochemist. He said,

  360. if you're a real scientist, you would never believe

  361. that God stuff. It's nonsense. I said, it's because

  362. I'm a real scientist, my brain can get around

  363. it and accept it. And he said, no. He said, if

  364. it's really true. Then you should be able to

  365. explain it. And I said, no, there are many things

  366. in life that cannot be explained and have to

  367. be fully experienced. He said, no, that's just

  368. a cop -out. I said, no, it isn't. It's reality.

  369. I said, you're a student. I said, there are hundreds

  370. of things in life that I cannot give you an ABC,

  371. one, two, three, rational explanation. But once

  372. you experience it, you know it and you come to

  373. an understanding. I said, this is your God. He

  374. said, prove it. I said, okay, you asked for it.

  375. I said, I'm a clinical biochemist. So let's just

  376. think about a jolly good kiss. You're a student.

  377. Now, if we begin to think of two mouths coming

  378. together. As a clinical biochemist, and I rationally

  379. begin to explain it, I'm thinking, did he clean

  380. his teeth? What bacteria are on his teeth? What

  381. is in that saliva? If I really process everything

  382. in a kiss, it becomes worse, not better. And

  383. if I just ruined your kissing date, I'm real

  384. sorry. But you see, I can explain a kiss until

  385. we go and it mostly makes it worse. But come

  386. on, I've been married 33 years and Gordon is

  387. still a great kisser. I've experienced it. I

  388. want it. I love it. There are certain things

  389. that we need to stop being ashamed about that

  390. we can't explain. We need to just say. Try it

  391. and see. Taste and see. God is good. Because

  392. I believe in these days we need to be unashamed.

  393. Romans chapter 1 verse 6. I'm not ashamed of

    Romans 1:6

  394. my message. Jesus saves. Jesus saves. Next slide.

  395. When I was in Oxford just recently. I'm on a

  396. bit from you. Next slide. When we were in Oxford.

  397. We set out the freshest table and we had all

  398. the kids come. We had 2 ,000 kids come to a table

  399. saying, come explore God, saying, I want to do

  400. it while I'm at university. A hundred kids came

  401. to the table and said, I'd already decided before

  402. I came to university, I wanted to sort the God

  403. question in my life. Come on, it's in America

  404. too. Jesus says, unashamed. Number two, we need

  405. to be unashamed. Jesus heals. And even when we

  406. can't add up the arithmetic and we lose people

  407. that are precious, we cannot back off that my

  408. Jesus heals. I remember Jesus challenging me

  409. and say, Rachel, I want you to pray for the sick.

  410. And I was like, I just thought, well, God, it's

  411. sometimes good and it's sometimes bad. And he

  412. said, no, nobody has ever died because you prayed

  413. for them to be healed. But some people have been

  414. healed. I can't say I've had 100%. I'm sure you

  415. can't say you've had 100%. But how many of you

  416. know you have got a story? You see, this year

  417. is my 30 years that we just clock through them

  418. quickly. 30 years ago, I've talked about my accident.

  419. I nearly died. That was a four -year journey.

  420. That's my little girl who's now grown up 30 years

  421. old in Melbourne. That wasn't fun. But I've just

  422. went back to the Oxford Research Orthopaedic

  423. Centre because they wanted to look at my bones.

  424. Because they've been tracking me and they want

  425. to see if I had osteoarthritis as a result of

  426. the serious fractures. The doctor, and I haven't

  427. got time, he looked at my legs. He looked at

  428. all the x -rays and he looked at me. He said,

  429. do you know you're a miracle? I said, yeah, of

  430. course I know. He said, no, I mean now. I've

  431. just looked at your bones. They're absolutely

  432. straight. The density and the clarity of the

  433. white on that interior bone looks about 35 to

  434. 37 years old. I'm 54. He said, I can't see where

  435. the fractures were. And my right leg was fractured

  436. in five places. My left leg in three places.

  437. And two of them were compounded and completely

  438. broken. The muscle thing. He said, I can't even

  439. see the creases and the calluses. These bones

  440. are so perfectly knit. And there's not even a

  441. speck of arthritis I'd expect in someone your

  442. age. And finally, we've got to be unashamed and

  443. say, Jesus delivers. What do I mean by that?

  444. Well, there's demons, evil spirits, but another

  445. word, legitimate translation is tormenting spirits.

  446. I believe we've got to start saying, I know Jesus.

  447. And he breaks torment. He breaks all the phobias.

  448. He breaks all addictions. He gets you out of

  449. a living hell. And he breaks the mind game. This

  450. is my Jesus. It's time to think big. Is there

  451. amen? Is that good? Will you stand with me this

  452. morning? Well, we ask you to come, Lord Jesus.

  453. And I want to ask you, think big. How many of

  454. you could already, in your mind, you know there's

  455. an area where God's saying, come on, I want an

  456. upgrade here. Break out. Think different. But

  457. you see, we can't think right unless we've got

  458. God in our life. Because we can try and sort

  459. it as much as we want, but it's the power of

  460. God that helps us. And maybe you're in the house

  461. this morning, and if you're really honest with

  462. yourself and with God, you know God isn't in

  463. the central place. And God is asking you to set

  464. your mind. Get hold of that GPS of your life

  465. and say, okay, God, I'm going to put in the right

  466. coordinates. I want you in my world. I want you

  467. to direct my path. And we're just going to come

  468. and worship. And as we do that, if you're in

  469. the house today and you know you need to set

  470. your mind and life on a Jesus coordinate, I'm

  471. just going to invite you to come down the front

  472. and we'd love to pray for you. So wherever you

  473. are in the house, you don't have to wait for

  474. anything special. Just come. We'd love to pray

  475. with you. Some people go, oh, that's real scary.

  476. I know. But what God did for you was really awesome.

  477. Thank you, sweetheart. There's others of you

  478. here. You just know this is my day. I'm taking

  479. out that GPS of my life and I'm just saying,

  480. I need to put you back. I need to have you in

  481. my world. I need to get rid of all this wrong

  482. thinking. If you're here, just make room. Come

  483. on out because we want to pray for you. If you
