-
God will transform your life. Do today's message.
-
Oh yeah, you can grab us hee.
-
Give somebody a high five. Tell them I'm glad you're here.
-
I'm glad you're here.
-
Welcome to church, everybody, so glad you're here.
-
Welcome to all of our first time guest returning friends.
-
Some of y'all who ain't with Facebook official that you
-
actually go here yet.
-
It's all right. We not mad at you. No, I'm
-
so grateful that you're here.
-
Glad you take time out of your Sunday to be
-
here with us. Thanks for coming to church on a running,
-
on a rainy Sunday. Give it up for yourselves. Come on,
-
you made it through the rain. It's also to be
-
acting dramatic when it rains. We act like the city's
-
gonna flood. It's just hilarious. It never happens. But but
-
I'm very grateful to be in God's house today. I
-
want to agree everybody watching online, Hey, everybody in Tulsa,
-
can you make some noise for everybody watching online.
-
Can you just cheer real quick? Literally you may.
-
Not know this, but every single Sunday we have more
-
than forty five thousand people that watch our service on Sunday,
-
like live in the moment. So if you've ever been
-
to be okay, like double that almost triple that. That's
-
how many people right now. We just clap for so
-
one more time. Can you celebrate everybody who's joining us
-
watching online. We love you, so grateful for our family
-
all around the world. And I said it, but I'm
-
glad that you are here. And my name is Charles.
-
Hello everybody. Technically Charles Henry Metcalf the third. It's not
-
a big deal, but I will update the slide next week.
-
I'm joking, but no, my mom it named me that
-
my mom and dad. I'm named after my grandfather, Charles
-
Henry Metcalf Junior.
-
And I remember my mom growing up. She'd be like
-
people would call me Chuck or Charlie.
-
I had one football coach that called me chucky and
-
I was like, I will hit you in your overweight face,
-
like I will come on. Every sixth grade football coach
-
is like, how did you become You're somebody's Dad, you're
-
not a real football coach. Anyways, I'm sorry I have
-
that joke offended you, But I remember and my mom
-
she was like, if I wanted you to be called
-
something else, I would have named you something else. Your
-
name is Charles, so I always I am good to clarify
-
that I'm Charles. And with my wife, we get to
-
serve here as the campus pastors of our Tulsa campus
-
and we're just honored and grateful that you're here and
-
think that it's very important that you would gather and
-
be with us today.
-
And I'm just.
-
So grateful for our church. I'm grateful for the diversity
-
of our church. I'm grateful for our worship. Can y'all
-
give it up for our worship team? Like it's just
-
getting ridiculous at this point?
-
Is that just to me?
-
It's like, oh, Wow, every Sunday, angels are gonna join
-
us in work.
-
Wow.
-
Okay, but I'm so glad you're here today. We're gonna
-
be starting a brand new series.
-
It's called the Word of God. Somebody say the Word
-
of God.
-
I'm excited for the next five weeks, we're gonna be
-
talking about the best selling book of all time.
-
That's a fact.
-
The most stolen book of all time, that's a fact.
-
It is the b I B L E. That's the
-
book for me. Hello, somebody, come on, don't play me.
-
But I'm before we jump into that, I'm excited. This
-
is actually the fourth summer. I didn't realize it till
-
my friend Kay he posted it. But for the last
-
four years, every summer I preach a series. The first
-
series I did was a series called the Paradox of Purpose.
-
So anybody see that series Paradox of Purpose?
-
We did that one Randomly, my daughter found a Paradox
-
of Purpose sticker.
-
She had it on her dress and I was like, oh, wow,
-
where did you find that? But we did that one.
-
Then there was one called Launch in Victory we did
-
when we were opening up.
-
And then last year, I think it was, I preached
-
a series called Holy Rebellion. And this year here is
-
the fourth one, The Word of God. I also realize
-
I always pick the same colors for my series. It's black, white, yellow,
-
and red, so if you go back and look, it's
-
like they're all the same. Yes, but I have to
-
stop and say thank you to our lead pastors.
-
And here's why, because There are.
-
A lot of people, a lot of people in ministry
-
that feel the call to preach, the call to speak,
-
but it takes a leader seeing it in them and
-
giving them the space to do it for them to
-
step in who God's called them to be. And I
-
am just personally and grateful for my friend and our pastors,
-
pastors Michael and Natalie Todd, for giving me the opportunity
-
to preach. So can you celebrate our pastors, our leaders.
-
I love you friends, Thank you. It's a big deal.
-
I don't take this responsibility lightly. I've been praying and
-
I'm grateful. I'm excited for the word I have today.
-
Before we do that, I'm gonna do this every single week.
-
I want to We're gonna be in the Word of
-
God reading the Bible.
-
We're gonna read a whole chapter of the Bible today.
-
So if you ain't this week, don't go hug go
-
thank goodness, because who knows what would have happened if
-
you went to read the Bible. But I want you,
-
I want to encourage everybody to bring your real Bible.
-
As a matter of fact, anybody got a real Bible
-
right now, like wave it in the air, Come on.
-
That's what I'm talking about.
-
Listen.
-
By the end of this series. By the end of
-
the series, the fifth week, come on, you can go
-
dollar Tree. You can go find a Bible anywhere. If
-
you happen to go to a hotel, you open up
-
that drawer, they.
-
Got one in there. God might understand. I'm not telling
-
you to steal it.
-
I'm just saying, if your heart's in the right place, ah,
-
you know, God would know anyways. But I want to
-
encourage you to bring your real Bible. I just think
-
there's something special about it. I am old school in
-
that way. My dad always preached out of his Bible
-
growing up, and I remember he gave me his Bible
-
and it was such a big deal. And then I
-
got this Bible about eight or nine years ago. It's
-
falling apart, but my life is in Hello, somebody hell,
-
But I would encourage you Bible and to get that going.
-
I'm actually gonna give away a Bible every single week.
-
We have these represent Bibles that are super awesome and
-
is this is this the one?
-
Yes? This is it?
-
Okay, So I wrote in this and dedicated this, and
-
every single week I just be If you ever see
-
me I'm just be walking around during worship.
-
I'm not trying to be weird. I'm just praying.
-
I'm praying for you, praying for your family, praying over
-
the church. And during prayer, the Holy Spirit highlighted somebody
-
to me and I was like, oh, that's who the
-
Bible is supposed to go get so, oh yeah, are
-
you back there in the back where you are?
-
Come up here?
-
Oh yeah, alry' come on, come on, come on, brother,
-
give it up, come on, come on.
-
He gotta make his way up here. Oh yay you
-
How old is your baby?
-
Girl?
-
You got a baby girl? Right boy? How old? Five months?
-
He just had it as your first baby? First baby?
-
Can you give it up? You gonna need this bible?
-
All right?
-
Every single week we're gonna be giving away a Bible.
-
So if you don't have a Bible, well maybe start
-
praying now.
-
Maybe God will make away. Now. Don't come up to
-
me awkwardly and be like, hey about the Bible.
-
But no, we're gonna are you all ready for the
-
message today?
-
All right, let's do it. Let's do it. Let's do it.
-
Okay, we're gonna jump right in. I'm excited today. I'm
-
gonna have to set up the series and pace myself
-
because I have a lot of I've had all these
-
message literally the next five week messages. I've had them
-
since like five months ago, Like I literally had the titles.
-
The team was like, do you have any idea? And
-
I just text them all of it. I was like, yeah,
-
there's everything if you want it. So I gotta be
-
careful about to preach the other week's out of order.
-
But today we're gonna set a little foundation. Somebody say foundation.
-
We're gonna set a little foundation for why the Word
-
of God is important. And if you are new to faith,
-
maybe new to church, I think this is the perfect.
-
Time for you to be here.
-
There's no better time for you to figure out what
-
this is all about than coming in a series while
-
we're talking about why this book is one of the
-
most important things in your life.
-
As a matter of fact, if.
-
You're new to church, new to church experience, I know
-
everybody in here you've been saved since before you were
-
out of your mother's womb. But there are some people
-
in here that maybe you ain't been in church in
-
a while.
-
And I think sometimes we assume.
-
Everybody knows what we're doing, and I bring friends to
-
church that aren't in church. And one of the things
-
they say all the time, my friend actually said it
-
last week, is like.
-
How does everybody know all the songs?
-
Like I feel like y'all all are doing this like
-
karaoke thing for God, and everybody knows the words except
-
for me. And so if you're new to church, we
-
do worship every single week.
-
That's where we sing songs to God.
-
Then in the middle of that worship, there'll be somebody
-
who come up.
-
It was Will today.
-
They'll come up and tell you all the different ways
-
you can get involved in church. Then we'll do worship again,
-
just in case you weren't paying attention the first time.
-
Hello somebody, or you're late. I see you.
-
It's not a big deal. I'll be late too, So
-
we're all right. That's why we do that extra song
-
just for some of y'all who are like.
-
Oh my gosh, I overslept.
-
No, you didn't your plan, you stayed up late, you
-
made bad plans, you didn't pick out your outfit.
-
Hello, somebody and your kids went. It happens all the time.
-
And then we go into the word, and that's what
-
we're gonna open up this book and talk about the
-
importance of it in our lives. And then at the
-
very end, we actually do this. Every single week, we
-
invite people to follow Jesus and.
-
We pray for two groups of people.
-
One, we pray for people who want to apply the message.
-
So today, if this message hits you in a way
-
that you're like, man, I really need to do something
-
with that, I'm gonna pray over you. And then we
-
always pray for people who want to accept Jesus into life.
-
We pray a group prayer and that's beautiful. Happens every
-
single week. I believe some of you you're gonna give
-
your life to Jesus today. That's why you here. You
-
just don't know it yet. And then after prayer, it's
-
a beautiful thing. About forty six point three percent of
-
the room is gonna try to rush out and get
-
beat you out there for traffic.
-
It was a joke. Calm down, You're like, oh, shoot,
-
he sees me. I do no.
-
I say that because one of the most beautiful things
-
that happens at the end of service is a time of.
-
Prayer and worship.
-
And I'm saying this on purpose, and I know I
-
made that joke and somewhere are like, oh gosh, you
-
just got a little tight.
-
It's okay, take a deep breath. You're fine.
-
But I will say I think one of the most
-
powerful things that could happen in your week is not
-
rushing out when you could gain and fill up a
-
little more peace before you go back into your workplace,
-
before you go back into your house. And so as
-
we go throughout service today, I'm gonna be locked in.
-
I got my clock up there. It's green as if
-
it goes red, then y'all can start getting up and
-
walking out.
-
Okay, so just calm down.
-
But listen, it's gonna be a beautiful, beautiful service today,
-
and I'm grateful if it's your first time. All Right,
-
you all ready, Now we're really ready. Now you're ready.
-
All right, here's what we're gonna do. I'm just gonna
-
I'm just gonna fire off the top. I was gonna
-
read a scripture, but I'm gonna have you write this down. Keys,
-
Thank you very much. You got the spiritual tone. But
-
I'm about to scream and it'll be like an awkward
-
mix if I do that. So I mean, everybody, get
-
your notes out, Get your phones out.
-
Smartphones dumb phones.
-
As our pastor would say, I'm not gonna say which
-
brand is a dumb phone. You can determine that yourself.
-
But where I need you to write down in your notes.
-
The Word of God is the only foundation.
-
That has the peace, purpose and power to.
-
Sustain the human soul.
-
If you get up and walk out right now and
-
you live that out, I promise you your life would
-
be different. The Word of God is the only somebody say,
-
only foundation that has the peace, purpose and power to
-
sustain your soul. Now, I want to be clear, you
-
have options for other foundations. It's not the only foundation
-
you could choose, but it is the only one.
-
That could actually hold you up.
-
There are a lot of choices when it comes to
-
your foundation. A lot of people choose success, money, and
-
their career as a foundation. So you figure, if I
-
just get enough money, if I do my job, if
-
I get enough promotions, I will build a life that
-
is secure enough for me to stand on and it
-
will outlast me. The only problem is money cannot hold
-
you up. Let me take it a step further. Money
-
can't heal you when you're sick. Money cannot change the
-
dynamic of a situation that only God can intervene in.
-
Money will come and money will go, but the Word
-
of God stands forever. You can choose relationships a boyfriend,
-
a girlfriend, a husband or wife for that to be
-
your foundation. The only problem is people will always let
-
you down.
-
Always they're gonna let you down.
-
People you love, people that you've been close with, friends
-
and family members that you have.
-
They will always let you down. Some people choose.
-
Their gift to be their foundation, or what you do
-
to be your foundation. You're you're super talented, or you
-
have a certain gift to sing, or a gift to
-
play a sport, or a gift to organize and structure,
-
and you build your life on this gift is who
-
I am. Only problem is is at some point you
-
get older or at some point you're not using that
-
gift and now you don't know who you are.
-
Every foundation is going to cost you.
-
Something you're not willing to pay.
-
I'm gonna say that again.
-
Every foundation you choose, if it's not the word of God,
-
it'll cost you something that I promise you do not
-
want to pay. Let me let me just I have
-
to do this. I'm a little dramatic. Sometimes Okay, this
-
is ooh, okay, you wasn't doing that. You wuldn't say
-
that earlier when I was giving examples standing on this
-
is what it is to build your life on money.
-
You feel higher than other people, you feel better about yourself.
-
But the problem is you can't go anywhere and get this.
-
There's no space for anybody else on this foundation. There's
-
no space for your family. There's no space for your children.
-
So Dad's gotta go to work or Mommy's gotta go work,
-
and I'll miss your game. It'll be all right, but
-
I'll give you some money for your birthday. No, no, no, no,
-
can't nobody else fit up on this foundation.
-
I need something bigger than this my gift.
-
And you know, God just gave me the gift to sing,
-
and so I sing and that's all I do.
-
That's who I am. Awesome, that's amazing.
-
The only problem is what happens if your vocal core
-
is just start acting a little sideways, a little funny.
-
What happens when you don't get up on the stage.
-
What happens when your call didn't ever have.
-
To do with anything being on the stage.
-
There's no space on this foundation, and the Word of
-
God is the only foundation that has the peace.
-
I want to stop on this.
-
For a second because up here, the longer I stand
-
up here, the more anxious I get. And some of you,
-
the foundations you've chosen in your life. The longer you
-
stand on that thing, the more you realize you have
-
more to lose, the higher the fall is gonna be.
-
What happens if the money goes out? What happens if
-
the four to one K plan doesn't happen. What happens
-
if I don't get into that school? Only one that
-
has the purpose. Some foundations you can make money and
-
be successful.
-
You just don't know why you're on the earth.
-
You get the job, you get the promotion, and then
-
you got the corner office and you realize, oh.
-
Man, I don't have any friends.
-
Oh I cut everybody down getting up here, so now
-
there's no one to celebrate with me. When I get
-
the raise, you find no purpose. And the last one
-
is it doesn't have the power. No matter how much
-
money you get, no matter how much influence you have.
-
There is only one foundation that can sustain your soul,
-
and it is the Word of God. It's the only one.
-
There's no other foundation that will outlast. The Bible is clear.
-
It says, the grass withers and the flowers fade, but
-
the word of God stands forever.
-
It's what the Bible says.
-
I want to read you another scripture out of Matthew
-
about the Word of God. It says this, says, everyone
-
who hears the word of mine and does not uh
-
do and does them will be like the wise man
-
who built his house on the rock, and the rain fell,
-
and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat
-
upon the house, but it did not fall because.
-
It had been founded on the rock.
-
And everyone who hears these words of mine it does
-
not do them, is like the foolish man who built
-
his house on the sand, and the rain fell, and
-
the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against
-
the house, and it fell. And it says this, and
-
great was the fall. I'm telling you from own experience.
-
I'm not up here talking to you about something that
-
I am not living out. The word of God is
-
the only thing that can keep you. The word of God.
-
God is the only thing that matters in this life.
-
And it's important we start with this foundation, because we're
-
gonna go further in this series to talk about the
-
Book of Galatians and the implications on our life. But
-
if you don't value this book, it don't matter. If
-
you don't understand the power of this book. Now, let
-
me let me pause here, because I'm not just talking
-
about a book.
-
Let me be very clear.
-
I'm not just talking about a book that you go
-
by at a store. The Bible says that this book
-
is alive and active. The Bible says, this is the
-
very word of some of us. If this ceiling cracked
-
open right now and God came down with whatever skin
-
tone you think he had, even though we know where
-
he was from and he definitely didn't have blue eyes
-
and blonde hair. Anyways, that's a fake picture of Jesus
-
in the hospital.
-
But uh, if he came down and was like, I
-
have a word for you, you'll be oh gosh, let
-
me write it down. When in fact, this whole thing
-
is his.
-
Words to you, and it's not outdated, and it's not
-
not relevant and it doesn't happen. It's not one of
-
those things like ah, we need no, no, no no.
-
This is just as relevant as when it was written
-
as it is today. It is just as powerful as
-
when it was written as it is today. And I
-
want to encourage you to get a conviction around this
-
being your foundation. How do I know if it's my foundation?
-
When things start going sideways? What do you think you
-
go to this? This is how you can tell who
-
do you start asking questions to? Where do you go
-
for your source of truth when things start going crazy
-
and you're about to respond? Where do you get that
-
response from? Is it from how you feel? Is it
-
from how your family responds, is it how you grew up?
-
Or is it what does the Bible say? Your kid
-
comes to you, Hey, I have a question. What are
-
we supposed to do without the well son? This is
-
what the Bible says. Hey, what am I supposed to
-
do about getting this job? And should I just take
-
every promotion because more money means that God is definitely
-
with me.
-
I don't know what does the Bible say when we
-
asked that question.
-
It's building our life on a foundation. Now, I want
-
to take a moment and I actually did this in
-
the Bible Study.
-
Shout out.
-
Talk to my people who comes to the Bible Study
-
on Wednesday nights, shout out to all the people. We
-
have a loyal crew of people On Wednesday nights at
-
seven fifteen, we do a Bible study every single Wednesday,
-
and we've been talking about the Bible and the Word
-
of God, and so I want to share this with
-
you if you're in here and you're wondering, how can
-
we believe the Bible? Like, how do we know this
-
thing is true? How do we know it's real? Is
-
it just the book? You know, there's some eighteen year
-
old kid on TikTok that done talked to you out
-
of your theology just because you have a podcast microphone.
-
He was like, you know, the Bible actually isn't true.
-
It's like you actually can't buy alcohol.
-
So calm down, kid, what do you know? Like you
-
know what I'm saying, like us telling me. He's like,
-
I saw this video on Facebook. It's like, okay, calm down.
-
There's a lot of things on Facebook. All of our
-
grandmother's on Facebook. So let's just like realize what's going on.
-
Okay, I'm I'm Chloe. I didn't mean that as no offense.
-
I mean that is none. I love you. She said,
-
all right, Okay, here, I'm gonna give you three reasons
-
why you can believe the Bible real quick, and then
-
we're gonna get intigulations.
-
Write these three down, three reasons why you can believe
-
the Bible.
-
The first one is facts. Everybody say facts.
-
If somebody come up to you talking about like, how
-
can you even believe the Bible?
-
It was written so long ago, how do you even
-
know it's true? How do you even know blah blah
-
blah blah.
-
Well, first of all, it's sixty six different book written
-
over thousands of years that all point to the.
-
Exact same thing. Name me one of a book that
-
does that. But I'm gonna give.
-
You some real facts, like if you are like more
-
like detail on you, Like, I gotta know that, I
-
know that, I know. Can y'all put that up there
-
for me? This little slope that's gonna show these saints
-
some facts real quick.
-
Okay, look at this.
-
This is a chart that shows copies of the Bible
-
that we have access to at the bottom, but at
-
the top this is a list of other stuff that
-
is accepted all around the world that you learned in
-
your history book and you never questioned. So Homer's Iliad
-
was written in eight hundred BC. The earliest copies is
-
four hundred, so there's a four hundred year gap, so
-
it happened, and then a four hundred year gap, and
-
we have six hundred and forty three copies of that
-
original writing. Let's go a little bit further Herodius who
-
was a historian.
-
So the history you read in your history book.
-
You don't know how many copies we have of the
-
history you read and learned and got quizzed on and
-
failed the sat because you didn't know. We have eight copies,
-
eight and you ain't never looked that history book.
-
Be like, I don't know if they technically won that war.
-
I don't really eight copies Plato. Come on, you're like,
-
oh Plato was so smart.
-
Okay, there's thirteen hundred years is the closest copy we have,
-
and we have seven of them.
-
Let's go to the New Testament.
-
The biggest time gap is fifty years, so from when
-
it was written fifty years later. And look how many
-
copies we got five, three hundred and sixty six copies
-
of the New Testament.
-
This is facts.
-
So you can accept this book as an accurate depiction
-
of what happened, just because you don't understand all the
-
stories just because you've never seen miracles like that, and
-
you're like, how does someone shadow heal somebody?
-
And I don't know. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean.
-
That aren't actual facts to tell you all that history
-
in your history book. We have more proof about this book.
-
We reading right here. That is a fact. So when
-
someone come up to you and be like, how can
-
you believe the Bible, Well, the truth is, we just
-
got way more. And this is how people measure the
-
legitimacy of ancient writings. So anything that is accepted as
-
the people who wrote history, we got eight busted, crinkled
-
up pieces of paper. They're like, hey, yeah, this is
-
what happened for thousands of years, and we just accept
-
it and we.
-
Put it in our history books.
-
The Bible, we have so many everybody say facts. The
-
next one is fruit. Everybody write down the word fruit.
-
Everybody say fruit. The Bible the only book that is
-
consistent that when.
-
You live out the truth of its words, there.
-
Is proof in your life and fruit from that book.
-
The truth of the Bible, the truth of scripture is
-
so true.
-
That people who don't even believe in it realize that
-
the stuff that's in there has some power, and they
-
will live it out even.
-
If they don't subscribe to everything. It says.
-
It is more blessed to give than receive. The world
-
of the generous gets larger and larger, and the world
-
of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. Philanthropist is just
-
a fancy word for I'm a generous person. But people
-
realize there are some principles in this book that create
-
fruit when I live it out. The last one, while
-
we believe the Bible is somebody say faith two Timothy
-
three sixteen says this team, I think I added the scripture,
-
so I'm sorry if you don't have it. I'll be
-
playing our team sometimes and it's like, come on, through
-
the scripture, it's my fault. Calm down, tewod Timothy three sixteen.
-
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to
-
teach us. Listen to this what is true so you
-
can live your truth. But let's be clear, there is
-
a truth. Come on, I'm just living my truth.
-
Coo coo coo coo. Cool.
-
But there is a truth that is not consult on
-
how you feel or the times, or what the government's
-
doing or what anybody else say.
-
It says.
-
This Bible is how we learn what is true, it says,
-
and it makes us realize.
-
What is wrong in our lives.
-
So if you read the Bible and all of it
-
agrees with you, you may want to make sure it's
-
a Bible you're reading and not just like a short story.
-
Come on, if the Bible doesn't cut you when you
-
read it, be careful.
-
It says.
-
It corrects us when we're wrong, and it teaches us
-
what to do and what is right. God uses it.
-
So this is the Bible. This is what the Bible says.
-
God uses it to prepare and equip his people to
-
do every good work. So there is an element of this.
-
And I was talking to somebody and they were talking
-
about a different religion, and I said, let's just acknowledge
-
some facts here. No matter how much you argue at
-
the bottom of the barrel, is a faith step to
-
believe this book. I don't want to get a scoot
-
around because some people will argue the facts and how
-
do we know this?
-
We got to at some point you got to put
-
your faith that this is the word of God, that
-
it is true, that I can build my life on it.
-
So the reason we believe the Bible is those three reasons.
-
We have facts that prove that it's way more legitimate
-
than any ancient writing ever. We have the fruit that
-
when we live it out, we see what happens in
-
our life, and we have the faith step that we take.
-
These say, you know.
-
What, I've built my life on this book. So now
-
i wanna jump into Galatians. Everybody say Galatians. Now we're
-
gonna do something old school. We're gonna stand for the
-
reading of God's word and.
-
I'm gonna change my voice. Now I'm joking. I'm joking.
-
I'm not gonna do that. I can't do that, metcalf Man.
-
We were not giving that deep, raspy voice.
-
When we get loud, our voice gets higher pitched. So
-
it's kind of we kind of got played in that regard.
-
Galatians chapter one.
-
If you have your Bible, you're gonna open to We're
-
gonna read the whole thing. I'm not gonna stop all
-
the way through. I'm it's gonna be on the sky
-
Bible up here.
-
So we like to call that.
-
So if you didn't bring your Bible, you can just
-
read it off there.
-
But This is what Galatians chapter one says.
-
It's Paul talking, and I'll read this letter is from Paul,
-
an apostle. I was not appointed by any group of
-
people or by any human authority, but by Jesus Christ
-
himself and the God, the Father who raised Jesus from
-
the dead. All the brothers and sisters here join me
-
in sending this letter to the churches. May God, the Father,
-
our Lord, Jesus Christ, give you grace and peace. Somebody
-
say grace and peace. Jesus gave his life for our sins,
-
just as God planned it, in order to rescue us
-
from the evil word.
-
All the glory to God forever.
-
Now Paul goes into verse six and he's talking to
-
people because there were some people who were sharing some
-
fake news pretty much, and this is what he says.
-
I'm so shocked. You're turning away so.
-
Soon from God who called you and his loving mercy.
-
You are following a different way that pretends to.
-
Be good news, but it's not good news at all.
-
You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the
-
truth concerning Christ. Let God's curse hold up, watch out
-
now fall on anyone, including even an angel from heaven
-
who preaches a different kind of good news than the
-
one I already preached to you.
-
I say again what we said before.
-
If anyone preaches the good news is that you welcome,
-
let that person be cursed.
-
Now look what he says. He's cursing people.
-
And then verse ten, he's like, obviously, I'm not trying
-
to win the approval of people, but God it pleases.
-
If pleasing people were my.
-
Goal, I would not be Christ's servant.
-
Watch out, people, pleasers. Hold up, dear brothers and sisters.
-
I want you to understand. The gospel message I preach
-
is not based on mere human reasoning. I received this
-
message from no human source, and no one taught it
-
to me. Come on, he got rejected from school, but
-
he said, Jesus taught me himself instead.
-
I received it directly from Jesus.
-
You know what I was like before I followed the
-
Jewish religion.
-
He's talking about his history.
-
He says, how violently I persecuted God's Church. I did
-
my best to destroy it. I was far ahead of
-
my fellow Jews in my zeal for tradition.
-
Now this is my favorite verse, maybe of all time.
-
But even before I was born.
-
Even before I was born, God chose me, and he
-
called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him
-
to reveal his son to me, so I would proclaim
-
the good news about Jesus to the gentiles. When this happened,
-
I didn't rush to consult with any human being, nor
-
did I go to Jerusalem.
-
To console with those apostles.
-
Instead, I went away into Arabia.
-
And then later to Damascus.
-
Then three years later I went to Jerusalem to get
-
to know Peter. So he been rocking for three years,
-
and he's like, all right, I guess i'll go check
-
in with who you said I got.
-
To check in with.
-
I stayed with him for fifteen days. Then the only
-
other apostle I met was James, the Lord's brother. I
-
declared before God, what I was writing to you.
-
Is no lie. We're about to be done right here.
-
After I visit, I went north into Syria and Sicily,
-
and then to all the churches that Christ and Judea.
-
They didn't know me personally. All they knew is what
-
the people were saying. The one who used to persecute
-
us is now preaching the very faith he tried to
-
destroy it and they praise God.
-
Because of me.
-
Can somebody clap your hands for the word? Oh God,
-
you may be seated.
-
Friends.
-
I have a message today in my twenty seven minutes
-
in three seconds.
-
Oh, I know, I got it.
-
I'm I'm locked in, baby. And I preached the message
-
before called God Chose Me, and.
-
I wanted to preach that one again. But I've got
-
version two for you today. Okay? Is that all right?
-
This message is for people who maybe the idea that
-
God chose you has drifted because of the time between
-
what he said and what you've seen. This message today
-
is for people who feel like life has beat you
-
down so much that somehow your trauma has warped God's
-
ability to put his hand on your life. This message
-
is for the single mother who feels like if God
-
was with me, why would I be here. This message
-
is for the person who you didn't get into the
-
school and you feel like I've got declined so many times,
-
I've got hit so many times?
-
Is there anybody that still sees me?
-
And I've got another three words for you this morning.
-
This is gonna be a confession in your heart. You're
-
gonna believe it in your soul. You're gonna say it
-
until you cannot forget it. On days when you wake
-
up and everything's going good, you're gonna say this.
-
On days when you wake up and everything's going bad.
-
You're gonna say this when things are going your way
-
when they're not. You can say these three words because
-
they are the most true words that have ever been spoken.
-
It is this. I'm still chosen. I'm still chosen.
-
Yeah, it's been some time and things haven't worked out,
-
but don't you forget I'm.
-
Still chosen by God.
-
Yes, I know things have not gone how I thought
-
they were, and I'm still a little rusty in my
-
gift because God hasn't used it yet.
-
But do not get it twisted. I'm still chosen. Yeah.
-
I had a season where I walked away from God
-
and I made some decisions I regret. But I'm back
-
here and I need to let you know I am
-
still chosen. Somebody say, I'm still chosen, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
-
I came to remind you what has happened to you
-
does not define who you are. I know the world's
-
trying to discourage you. I know your family feels like
-
they're discouraging you. I know you open up your chase
-
account and feel discouraged, shall o somebody? But you are
-
still chosen by God, the creator of the universe, the
-
one who hung the stars in the sky, the one
-
that forgives sins, that cancels debt, that raises dead bodies,
-
that split seas open.
-
It is that God that has chosen you.
-
And Paul opens up the Book of Galatian throwing hands.
-
That's exactly what he did.
-
Because everybody suspect of Paul, they're like, okay, we know
-
you had a little encounter. Apparently that no one was
-
there to witness.
-
Come on, that's the tough part.
-
Sometimes, ain't nobody there to witness what God did.
-
In your heart in private?
-
And you come out trying to act different, and everybody's like, okay,
-
who were you?
-
Come on? You?
-
You? Maybe you you were off at school and you
-
come home and God changes some stuff in your heart
-
and you about to go back to school and you're
-
gonna try to be different.
-
They'll be like, okay, nobody.
-
Saw what you did while you acting brand new now.
-
But Paul, knowing what they're thinking about him, here's the context.
-
So the Book of Galatians is written to a group
-
of churches and the people there.
-
It's a very.
-
Racially mixed group of people and ethnically mixed group of people,
-
and there are people there who are trying to sell
-
the truth that yeah, yeah, Jesus died, but you still
-
got to follow all these rules, and you got to
-
keep following these rules, even though Jesus said he paid
-
for all that, you still And what they're doing is
-
they're talking about Paul. They say, don't even believe Paul.
-
Come on, we don't even know what really happened to him.
-
Come on, he said he was on the road and
-
then God met him.
-
You really think God met Paul. Come on, he used
-
to kill us, you remember what he used to do.
-
So they're talking about Paul.
-
So Paul cracks open the book and it's like, hey,
-
how y'all doing?
-
And now this is hilarious.
-
So imagine we're in church, Paul sends us this letter
-
and everybody's like, oh my gosh, guys, we got a
-
letter from Paul. They're like, come on, everybody, get around,
-
get around. Everybody quiets down, and he's like, hey, it's Paul, and.
-
They're like, oh my gosh, Hey it's Paul. Hey, Paul,
-
how you doing.
-
And he's like, I'm shocked you've turned so quickly.
-
They're like, what is he? What is he talking about?
-
He's like from those losers who are trying to sell
-
you a fake gospel.
-
And then the room gets quiet. They're like, oh uh.
-
And then maybe some of those questions start coming up,
-
like why are.
-
He talking so strong and who do he think he is?
-
And Paul is very clear. He says, hey, real quick,
-
before I finish the rest of this book, let me
-
be clear who chose me. At this time, Jesus has died,
-
so there's a lot of momentum in the church, and
-
so people are raising up disciples of disciples, so there
-
were people who walk with Jesus and so they're training people,
-
and so people were very connected to who did you
-
learn your gospel from? And who did you get your
-
Jesus from? And Paul says, let me be clear with you.
-
Didn't no human give me this, didn't no person approve me,
-
didn't no person.
-
Come say oh now you can do.
-
God himself came to me and said, Paul, it's time
-
to turn, and I got something for you. Paul says,
-
I didn't get this from no human source. And when
-
I got it, I didn't go check in with nobody.
-
I got it and I got to work. And for
-
so long we have needed the approval of other people
-
to do what God told us to do, and we
-
spend half of the time we were supposed to spend
-
snatching people out of hell just checking in with all
-
these people making sure did God tell me to do this?
-
And is it okay to help people who are poor?
-
And I think I should really help people who are
-
stuck in human trafficking? And is then okay to feed
-
the hungry? Stop checking in with the committee. God gave
-
it to you. It is time to go. I feel
-
that thing. If God gave it to you, it is
-
time to go. I'm tired of Christians sitting around in
-
our little Christian Kumbaya waiting to do all week. Got
-
more schematics and plans to change the world that are
-
dusty and old, and we ain't done nothing with them yet.
-
I'm tired of that. If God gave it to me,
-
it's time to go. Why Because I'm still chosen. God
-
gave me this idea. God gave you that gift. God
-
put that dream on the inside of you. God gave
-
you that thing. God gave you those children. God gave
-
you that job. And if God gave it to you,
-
he has put everything on the inside of.
-
You to walk it out. I'm still chosen.
-
I know I'm a little weary, I know look a
-
little beat up, but I'm still chosen.
-
I know my heart is heavy.
-
I know I've lost some people along the way, but
-
I'm still chosen.
-
I know I've made my mistakes.
-
I know by right now, by looking at my Instagram feed,
-
you couldn't tell.
-
But I'm still chosen.
-
I know if you were to go look down at
-
the history of my life and you were going to
-
go back into the lineage of my family, it wouldn't
-
speak to somebody who's chosen. But don't get it twisted.
-
You can read the history books, but I'm writing the future.
-
I'm still chosen. Don't make up for me because what's
-
happened in my past. Don't look at my parents struggle
-
and try to decide about me. Don't look at my
-
cousins and think you know who I am. I'm still chosen.
-
God put his hand on me, and I'm not going nowhere.
-
I'm still chosen. I need you to get something on
-
the inside of you that is a holy get these
-
two words, a holy confidence and a holy contentment. You
-
can't do nothing with somebody who's confident and content. I
-
know it for myself else I didn't used to always
-
be this way. But I know why I am a
-
problem for Hell and why my name comes up a
-
lot down there, is because I'm confident enough to do
-
exactly what God told me to do, and I'm content
-
enough to sit at home with my wife and my babies.
-
I'm confident and I'm content. I'm confident enough to get
-
up on this stage and preach what God told me
-
to preach, and I'm content enough. If he said, Charles,
-
you ain't never gonna preach again. You just gonna sit
-
down here and do whatever past might tell you do.
-
I would be cool. Why because no human source put
-
this gift on the inside of me. God chose me.
-
I know where it came from, so I know.
-
Who gets to tell me what to do with it.
-
Ain't no human put this on the inside of me.
-
But before I was even born, somebody say God chose me. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
-
there's something happening on the inside of you. You're realizing
-
that even though there are people in your life that
-
try to take credit from your gift. They weren't there
-
when it was birthed. Nobody was in Bowling Green, Kentucky
-
checking from me. Nobody was there when me and my
-
wife were sitting in our room crying and deciding if
-
we were gonna leave the place we were at. It
-
didn't have no job, didn't have no money. But I
-
had a lot of friends that were close to me
-
but were far from God. And so I thought, if
-
they ain't gonna come to church, I'm gonna take the
-
church to them.
-
Me and my wife we literally were like, all right,
-
we started a church. What does that mean? I don't know.
-
Google it all right, how do you start a five?
-
Oh one? C? Three? Done? Did it? All right?
-
Let's let we do our first little gathering. We call
-
them gatherings because I was like, you know, some of
-
my friends just the word church they would flinch, like
-
they just had so many bad experiences and so on.
-
Saying come to church with me was like hit them
-
in the mouth, like it.
-
Was just like they didn't like it. So I was like,
-
all right, why don't you just come to this little
-
gathering thing. We're just gonna eat some food. I'm gonna
-
talk a little bit. They're like, oh yeah, okay, cool
-
free food. You're just gonna talk. Yeah, that's all it is.
-
They come in. We're in this little dingy club downtown.
-
It's dark. They walk in. All of a sudden, I'm
-
cracking over this book. Here's the truth of God's word.
-
Like I was just going. But it was in those moments.
-
It was in that place. It was in those meetings
-
with my friends who had moved from around the country
-
to help us start a church. It was then when
-
I bought this Bible. Let me read this to you.
-
I forgot this was in here, Thank you Holy Spirit.
-
The front of my Bible.
-
This is very funny. I'll get emotional reading this. So
-
it's the presented to Bible. So just in Oya's Bible,
-
I wrote, presented from Pastor Charles to O yay on
-
this date on the occasion of So it's like a
-
whole thing in the front of your Bible.
-
And at the time I didn't have nobody in my
-
life like that.
-
So my Bible says, presented you Charles Henry metcalf third
-
by is blank.
-
Did nobody present this Bible to me.
-
I presented it to myself and it says on the
-
occasion of following Jesus February twenty eighth, twenty sixteen.
-
So in that moment when I started cracking open this
-
book and figuring.
-
Out what it meant for my life, it was there
-
God started doing something. It was there that that gift
-
that He put on the inside of me started stirring
-
in a different way.
-
It was earlier than that. See, this is why you
-
gotta be careful.
-
What you label people at a young age, because if
-
you go back and look at all my report cards,
-
it says the same thing. Good student but talks too much,
-
Good student but a little distracting.
-
Okay, yes, in sixth grade.
-
But miss Williams said, it all makes sense now, don't
-
I See.
-
I'm telling you I want to encourage you.
-
God has placed something unique on the inside of you,
-
something of infinite.
-
Value, and when he chooses you.
-
There is no amount of time, there is no trauma,
-
There is nothing that can take away the fact that
-
He chose you.
-
John fifteen sixteen says this, You didn't choose me.
-
Remember, See, some of us get cocky enough to think
-
you chose God. You didn't choose God before you were
-
even alive. He climbed up on that cross, before you
-
were ever looking in his direction.
-
He says, you didn't choose me.
-
Remember I chose you. And today I want to encourage
-
you that maybe the idea that God chose you has faded.
-
Maybe the life you have lived.
-
Does it look like you're chosen and called out. But
-
want to encourage you with the confession that you can say,
-
I'm still chosen. There's been some time, there's been some pain,
-
but I'm still chosen. I've made mistakes I'm not proud of,
-
but I'm still chosen. I let other people define my gift.
-
I let other people talk me into things I would
-
never do, but I'm still chosen.
-
I've ran from it for a long time.
-
I've acted like I didn't want to do it, when
-
the truth is I just knew it would require so
-
much of me that I would have to give up
-
everything I've ever loved to do it. And I know
-
I'm working through that, but I'm still chosen. I've got
-
some questions about some things in that book, and I
-
don't understand it all, but I'm still here and I'm
-
still going to church because I'm still chosen. I prayed
-
for my kids and they're not acting right now how
-
I thought.
-
I raised them, And now they're going through stuff.
-
That I thought I dealt with, but I realized I
-
didn't deal with it.
-
I just yelled and shouted.
-
I didn't ever talk about what I went through, and
-
so it's passed on and now I see that, and
-
now I'm a little broken because I can't go back
-
and fix it. But don't get it twisted. God still
-
chose me to be their parents, and as long as
-
they're still alive, I'm gonna do the best I can.
-
Somebody say I'm still chosen, You're still chosen.
-
I want to give you four things.
-
It's the exact same four things when I preach God
-
chose me. But I think for the person who needs
-
to be reminded today, you need to be reminded you're
-
still chosen. And here's what needs to happen because you're chosen.
-
The first thing I need you to do is I
-
need you to start getting ready.
-
I know there's been some time.
-
I know you wrote those plans and you're gonna have
-
to go back and dust those things off.
-
But I need you to start getting ready.
-
Come on, look at your neighbor and say you need
-
to start getting ready.
-
Now.
-
Depending on your personality type, some of y'all need to
-
start sooner than others.
-
Come on, now, come on.
-
Me and my wife were getting ready to go somewhere,
-
and it'd be one of those things.
-
Now.
-
Very honestly, this isn't a great example because given the day.
-
If flip flops, who's really behind. It's either I'm.
-
Ready and I'll me with this first year marriage, I
-
get ready and abby, or going somewhere I get ready
-
boom and not because I'm fast the getting ready.
-
I actually take super long to pick out my clothes.
-
I've been picking out my clothes the day before every
-
single day since sixth grade.
-
Some of you are like, Charles, that's a problem. Do
-
you see how great I look? Though? So is it?
-
Come on, it's not an accident anyways.
-
Sixth grade, sixth grade, I've been doing this, like would
-
lay my clothes out like next to me. Come on,
-
anybody ever do that like you're laying in the bed.
-
I went to a private school too. I was wearing like.
-
The same shirt and tan pants, and I'd be like,
-
is that gonna go with the Okay, yeah, we're good.
-
So if I take a long time to get ready,
-
it's because I didn't get to pick out my clothes
-
the night before. But first year marriage, I pre prep
-
my clothes and I get ready and I'm sitting on
-
the couch. Abby takes like forty five extra minutes and
-
then walks out and says some of the most cutting
-
words that almost sent our.
-
Marriage into the tailspin.
-
She walks out, she says, this ready when you are ready?
-
When I am, I have okay, let me just that,
-
And then I was I literally had a moment, and
-
then a little bit she did it again. I was like,
-
you have got Literally one time, I was like, you
-
gotta stop saying that.
-
You have to stop.
-
She's like, what, I'm just saying, I'm ready when you
-
I was like, the problem is I've been ready. You're
-
the one who wasn't ready, and you're gonna try to
-
flip it like I wasn't ready.
-
I've been sitting here watching The Office. I'm through season eight.
-
Because you didn't think about your outfit the night before,
-
you should have listen to me.
-
Anyways, I'm still chosen though, even though my first year
-
of marriage was a little rough.
-
Sometimes you gotta start getting ready a little earlier than
-
you think.
-
You gotta start getting some plans together.
-
Some of you need to start living how you want
-
to live when you will be married. Don't wait to
-
get married and then try to change your whole schedule.
-
Live how you.
-
Want to live now, Live how when you're debt free?
-
Now live how when you own your own house. Now
-
you gotta start getting ready. There's some stuff we save
-
for other seasons, thinking, oh, yeah, I'll just be able
-
to flip that switch when I get there.
-
Nobody, that's not how it works. You gotta decide before. Yeah,
-
I'm wilding right now. But when I get married, you know,
-
I'm gonna shure up. I'm gonna really just lock in.
-
I'm gonna stop dming all these ladies.
-
You know, I'll just just magically, I won't look at
-
poor no more, and I won't even be tempted. Women
-
will become ugly to me when I get married. That's dumb.
-
That's dumb, and it's not biblical.
-
Stop acting a fool. Get it together now.
-
It's not just for the fellows neither, because some of
-
you'll ladies be wiling.
-
We see your your close friends.
-
Got a lot of non close friends on there that
-
you're trying to holler at. Let's be oh see that
-
the ladies got quiet, Like, okay, move on.
-
It's not funny. It's so funny. How quick I become
-
not funny when it hits.
-
It's like like this guy's okay, be quiet.
-
Number two. Everybody say number two.
-
When you believe God chose me, you gotta live ridiculous.
-
If you want to live safe, Jesus may not be
-
for you. Oh yeah, I don't know how this happened.
-
Think about this. The marker of this belief system is
-
a man who was murdered, and then all his friends
-
were murdered, and then somehow in twenty twenty four we
-
sell people, Yeah, follow this man, and you're life gets
-
easy and you can live safe and he'll protect you
-
and everything will be fine if you follow Jesus. That
-
doesn't match up with the book he said in this
-
life you will have trials. Here's why Jesus is so
-
gangster and why you can live ridiculous because Jesus defeated
-
the thing that we are most afraid of. Paul goes
-
on to write in another book, He's like, you know,
-
I don't really know if I should die or if
-
I should be here, and it's kind of like, whoa, Paul,
-
that's a little morbid.
-
No.
-
He was so connected to going to be with Jesus.
-
One day and he realized that when we leave here,
-
it's actually us returning.
-
Home, not leaving.
-
Home, because the Bible says I'm not even from here.
-
He was so connected to that idea. He's writing his
-
friends like, you know, if I stay, it's kind of
-
better for you, but if I go, it be way
-
better for me. And I kind of want to die
-
to go see Jesus, but then you'd probably be freaked
-
out and you'd believing all those crazy people.
-
So I think I'll stay. The only way you live.
-
In a ridiculous manner is if you realize who chose you,
-
that who chose you is not from this planet.
-
He's not from this system. He's not from the world.
-
So when he asked you to do stuff, it's gonna
-
seem ridiculous if you're in this system.
-
I was talking to my little.
-
Boy and we were talking about one of our friends
-
who had passed, and I said, Bro, isn't this the
-
coolest thing? Somebody actually our friend Katie, she wrote this
-
poem and it was the most gang it was even
-
a poem. It was like a battle rap and she
-
crushed the devil. It was like so gangster. But she said,
-
she said this line. She was like first streets, stepping
-
on streets of gold. And the idea was, I said, Buddy,
-
isn't it insane that they're going to get to walk
-
in heaven the streets are gold?
-
And he was like no. I was like yes. I
-
was like, see Daddy's necklace.
-
This little it's fourteen Carrit played it, but you know
-
it like it's kind of like this. But I told
-
I was like, in heaven the streets are gold.
-
So how you ride your bike just out and you
-
be drawing on it? You know, that's what gold is
-
in heaven.
-
And just that one idea tells me, oh, when God
-
asked me to do something, he's walking on streets of gold.
-
So the paradigm with which he thinks is very different.
-
Because the thing that's most valuable to you is like
-
the roads in heaven.
-
So if you look to make.
-
Sense of it in earth, think about the last time.
-
You were on the road, Like, wow, what a street.
-
This is amazing? I cannot.
-
But you don't think about it at all.
-
You don't look at it, you don't value it, you.
-
Don't think nothing of it because it's just the road.
-
It's just a means to get me from here to
-
where I'm going. And can I tell you, in heaven,
-
that's all worldly stuff is they got the most precious
-
things laid on the street, because there's more where that
-
comes from. Because when you get to heaven, you ain't
-
gonna be worried about your fate go necklace. You're gonna
-
be singing, Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord, God Allmighty.
-
And if I know God chose me, I'm gonna start
-
living like it. I'm gonna start praying like it.
-
I'm gonna start witnessing to my friends like I'm chosen.
-
You gotta get ready you live ridiculous.
-
The next one is, is it you live reverent?
-
Because the idea that God chose you is a very
-
humbling idea.
-
Heard somebody say it's not about what you know, it's
-
about who you know.
-
But I think what's even.
-
More powerful that is, it's not about who you know,
-
but about who knows you.
-
Come on, you know, Beyonce, But Beyonce do not know you.
-
Not only do I know God, but God knows me.
-
I'll read about him, but he knows me. He knows
-
my thoughts, he knows my pain. The scripture says, we
-
do not have a high priest that cannot relate to us,
-
for he was tempted in every way, yet without sin.
-
He knows what it feels like to be stuck between
-
a decision. He knows what it is to be anxious,
-
and so anxious that a biological system in his body
-
responds and he physically starts to sweat blood.
-
YEA, yeah, Jesus knows how you feel. He knows what
-
you're going through.
-
And when you start to consider the fact that you
-
are chosen not by just anybody, but by the creator
-
of the universe. You aren't chosen by some random committee,
-
but you are chosen by the one that said, let
-
there be light, and there was light.
-
There's a reverence that understands this. He could have chosen anybody.
-
I know you're frustrated with what you're going through, and
-
I know you wish it was different. But he could
-
have put somebody else in your spot. He could have
-
gave those kids to somebody else, could have put that
-
friend in somebody else's circle, but he put them in
-
your circle.
-
Because we all.
-
Frustrate with people until they're not here. We're all mad
-
at people until you don't get.
-
A chance to say I'm sorry.
-
So before you curse where God puts you, why don't
-
you realize maybe he had an idea in mind. Maybe
-
he's greater and his thoughts are higher. You gotta get ready,
-
you gotta live ridiculous, you gotta be reverent.
-
And the last one is you gotta be resilient.
-
When you realize God chose you, when you realize he's
-
the one who picked you, when you realized what is
-
on the inside of you. The Bible says, the same
-
spirit that raised Christ from the dead is on the
-
inside of you. There is no situation you go through
-
that you cannot get back up from. And I want
-
to encourage somebody who feels like you've fallen a lot
-
of times. You're falling on your face in front of everybody.
-
You said you were going to pray and believe God
-
and it was going to work out, and you feel
-
like it didn't work out, and now you're embarrassed, or
-
you worked really hard and you didn't get into the school,
-
or you're trying to get over that addiction and you
-
just still keep.
-
Falling, and you're in another rehab and you're in another
-
situation that you said you'd never be in.
-
I want to remind you you are still chosen. You
-
are still called. The gift that God gave you is
-
still on the inside of you. It's covered up by
-
some pain, it's covered up by some life. But I
-
promise you there is not a place that God cannot
-
get to.
-
You are still chosen.
-
As long as there is breath in your body, you
-
can say I'm still chosen. Life is not perfect, but
-
I'm still chosen. I'm limping a little bit, but I'm
-
still chosen. I'm a little pain, and the people who
-
I thought were there are not here anymore. But I'm
-
still chosen. We're talking about the Word of God. I'm
-
going to ask a team to begin to play. We're
-
going to close out service. The series is the Word
-
of God. To close out, I want to remind you.
-
Not what the Word of God is, but who the
-
Word of God is.
-
We're not talking about a book, but the Bible says
-
in the beginning the Word already existed and the Word
-
was with God, and the Word was God.
-
He existed in the beginning with him, and God created
-
everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.
-
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and
-
his life brought light to everyone.
-
And that light shines.
-
In the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it
-
verse fourteen. So the Word became human and made his
-
home among us. And he was full of unfailing love
-
and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory and the
-
glory of the Father's one.
-
And only son. The Word of God is not just
-
a book. It is a person. And his name is Jesus.
-
And what if I told you every time you interact
-
with this book, you are not interacting with pages, but
-
you're interacting with a person, that Jesus, who is closer
-
to you than your very own breath, that is close
-
to the broken hearted, that is near to those who
-
are contrary in spirit. If you crack open this book
-
and you begin to read this story, you're questioning, am
-
I still chosen?
-
Or am I still called? Or am I still important?
-
When you begin to open up this story, Jesus himself
-
is their ministrying to you. Jesus himself is saying, Hey,
-
I've still got a plan for you. Hey, it's not
-
over until I say it's over. Hey, there's no thing
-
I cannot turn around.
-
You are still chosen. Must everybody to stand up in
-
this room if you would.
-
Pray for two groups of people, and then I'm gonna
-
ask the worship team to lead us in some worship.
-
Two groups of people.
-
First group of people is maybe you're struggling to believe
-
the idea that you're still chosen.
-
I don't know why.
-
I don't know the reason, but maybe you are here
-
today and the idea that you are still chosen.
-
Is far from you.
-
I'ma ask everybody, if it's not an emergency, I you
-
you'd stay still for just two more minutes. I'm gonna
-
ask everybody, boy your heads and close your eyes. If
-
you need some sort of encouragement that's bigger than human
-
source that comes from a place that I cannot give you,
-
but comes directly from God.
-
If you need the reminder and.
-
The confidence to live as if God chose you, I'm
-
gonna ask you to do something bold, because I believe
-
He's put this on the inside of you.
-
Would you raise your hand right now all over the room.
-
If you say I need the reminder I'm still chosen,
-
I feel like I've forgotten it.
-
I feel a little beat up, i feel a little down.
-
But I'm gonna start living as if I'm chosen.
-
Holy Spirit.
-
Right now, every person you see them with their hand raised, God,
-
I thank you first of all, Lord, that even the
-
courage to raise their hand hand is the honesty to
-
admit where they really are. God, I thank you you
-
are doing something right now that they would be reminded
-
that it was no person, It was no human that
-
put that on the inside of them. But it was you,
-
God that put that gift on the inside of them.
-
It was you who called them. It is you who
-
sees them. And I speak against any lie right.
-
Now that your past is too much for your future,
-
that your mistakes have decided about you.
-
Your story is not over. There is so much more
-
to what God is writing.
-
And God, I thank you that what happens from today
-
forward will be the best of them.
-
Lord God, that the gifting is.
-
More on this side of the story, that the grace
-
is more on this side of the story, that the
-
confidence is more, that the contentment is more.
-
Thank you Jesus, Every hand down. If you're in this room,
-
if you've.
-
Never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, this
-
is the gospel.
-
The gospel is summed up.
-
God chose you before you were living, right, before you
-
were doing right, before you were doing anything. The gospel
-
is Jesus came to this earth, he lived a perfect life.
-
He died for you and for me. Why did he
-
do that?
-
Because our sin, when we mess up, when we make
-
a mistake, it separates us from God. And regardless of
-
if you would call it sin or not, you've all
-
felt the feeling of being separated. It feels cold, it
-
feels isolating, it feels hopeless. That is what sin does
-
to us. But the good news, friend, is that Jesus
-
came and he took your place so that you didn't
-
have to feel that way, so you didn't have to
-
walk through life alone, so you didn't have to come up.
-
With answers that you don't have.
-
But Jesus himself stands ready to be your help.
-
All you gotta do is surrender. All you got to
-
do is say I give up. All you got to
-
do is say, Jesus, you are my savior. So here's
-
all gonna do.
-
Everybody, bow your heads, close your eyes, just out of
-
a moment to refocus on where you are with God.
-
If you're in this room, I'm gonna count to three.
-
If you're watching online, I'm gonna count the three and
-
on the count of three, if you want to accept
-
Jesus as your Lord and savior, you are saying he
-
is in control of my life.
-
I give it to him.
-
I'm done running and I'm done doing it by myself.
-
On the count of three, I want you to raise
-
your hand boldly. Don't be ashamed, don't worry about it.
-
You're gonna raise your hand.
-
High because this is the best decision you have ever made.
-
One.
-
He loves you too, He's proud of you. Three, lift
-
your hand right now. If you want to accept Jesus,
-
come on, boldly, lift it up. Come on, lift it up,
-
Lift it up, Lift it up.
-
Oh, come on, lift it up. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
-
come on. I'm so proud of you. Hey, listen, here's
-
what I want you to do.
-
If you've got your hand up right now, we have
-
a gift for you. The word of God is so important.
-
I told the team everybody who give their life to
-
Jesus is getting a Bible. So if you raise your hand,
-
raise your hand right now, and our team is.
-
Bringing you a Bible right now. Come on, keep your
-
hand up.
-
If you see somebody around, make sure they get that bible.
-
Come on, we got bibles for days. We're gonna make
-
sure everybody gets one.
-
If you still ain't got your Bible, be like, hey,
-
don't play me, give me my bible. He said, I
-
could have one that's a fourteen ninety nine value.
-
I want my Bible.
-
All right, here's what we're gonna do. I'm gonna pray
-
for all of us. I'm gonna invite the worship team
-
to go ahead and come up. And if you need
-
prayer for anything, if you need prayer for anything, anything
-
at all, some of our prayer team is gonna be
-
in the front. Also, a lot of our team is
-
gonna be in the back. They're gonna put a big
-
sign up there that says prayer. If you just need
-
to worship, maybe you just need to focus in. Maybe
-
God spoke to you something and it's stirring in your heart.
-
And you're like, oh my gosh, what does it mean
-
to be chosen? And God, I can't believe this. But
-
team's gonna worship, We're gonna pray. I believe something powerful
-
is gonna happen. If you just gave your life.
-
To Jesus, we would love to know about it. If
-
somebody in your role, I'm gonna ask you.
-
We gave you the Bible. If somebody in your role
-
raise their hands, I want you to give them a hug.
-
You don't have to do it right now if it
-
makes sense, but you know, don't be weird about it.
-
But we love you. I'm proud of you. It's a
-
big deal. That's a decision you could ever make. And
-
then if you want to let us know, we would
-
love to know about it. If you text the word
-
saved to the number on the screen, the team will
-
connect with you.
-
But I'm gonna ask everybody to lift your hands.
-
Role, we're gonna lead and worship God. I pray a
-
blessing over this room.
-
I thank you that this room is still chosen, chosen
-
by you for great things, chosen by You Lord, to
-
do things that their eye has not seen. And I
-
thank you, Lord Jesus that even though people may have
-
a past, Lord God, it's not more powerful than you are.
-
So God right now.
-
I thank you though, that they would feel the confidence
-
Lord Jesus to know who they are. That I am,
-
I'm chosen by God. It's in the beautiful name of Jesus.
-
We pray and everybody said, come on, everybody said, thank
-
you for joining us today.
-
If you said that prayer and accept it Jesus into
-
your heart, it's the best decision you could ever make.
-
We want to celebrate with you, and we have some
