  1. Welcome to Transformation Church Podcast, where we represent God to

  2. the lost and found for transformation in Christ. We're so

  3. glad you're here and wherever you're listening from, we believe

  4. God will transform your life.

  5. Do today's message all right, get your bibles out, let's

  6. get ready for the word. Galatians chapter five is where

  7. we're at. It's week five of the series. We got

  8. one more week.

  9. There's six chapters in the.

  10. Book, so we're going each week we're taking a chapter

  11. to do it. And after next week, our very own pastor.

  12. Michael Todd is back in the building. So please, please,

  13. please please.

  14. Make sure you make plans to be here next week

  15. and the week after.

  16. You don't want to miss it. It's gonna be amazing.

  17. But Galatians chapter five, now I gotta say I gotta

  18. say this.

  19. I gotta be honest with you. My confidence is.

  20. A little shaken in our team. Here's why not our team,

  21. like staff, I'm talking about you sitting in to see.

  22. Because you know I'm out, and.

  23. So I'm like, okay, I'm gonna try to watch church

  24. and stuff.

  25. You know, we've been reading whole chapters.

  26. Of a Bible, and we started off so strong and then.

  27. We come to this third week, and I felt.

  28. Like, you know, when you're at home and you like

  29. your kids are like talking super regular and they just

  30. like super.

  31. Calm and chill, and they say in whole.

  32. Sentences, and then you get out in public and they're like.

  33. Doba got Gigi? How y'all lie?

  34. It's like what hey talk morm, come on, quit playing

  35. me now.

  36. I felt like y'all kind of played me. We was

  37. throwing up whole chapters. Y'all are like, uh so, uh

  38. so it.

  39. Maybe really abandoned the whole We're gonna read a chapter

  40. of the Bible thing, so watching it.

  41. Maybe it's been that bad the whole time. I just

  42. didn't know it. But we're only gonna read two chapters.

  43. I'm gonna give you a summary of the whole chapter,

  44. but I don't want to take y'all through twenty four verses. Again,

  45. I don't think anybody needs to withstand that.

  46. So Galatianus Chapter five is Paul.

  47. He's writing to a group of people, and I'll just

  48. give you brief overview verses one through twelve.

  49. There's no way to get around this. He's talking about circumcision.

  50. Hello, somebody, so the Bible's got a lot of good

  51. stuff in there.

  52. We'll just keep moving with that one.

  53. I did have an alternate title for this sermon. It

  54. was called circumcision.

  55. Won't cut it but sh But we're not gonna do

  56. that sermon. But it's true.

  57. Outward signs don't mean your heart's changed. It ain't gonna

  58. cut it anyways. Verses thirteen to fifteen. He starts talking

  59. about love in action, what it actually means to live

  60. it out, and then where we're gonna spend our time today.

  61. Verses sixteen through twenty three. He talks about this war

  62. that happens within. He talks about this war between the

  63. spirit and the flesh, and then he closes out the

  64. chapter with some closing commands. But we're gonna focus on

  65. two versus today. If you throw that up there for me, now,

  66. we are gonna stand up again. I'm only making you

  67. read too, so you're gonna get right back down. It's

  68. gonna be all right. Stand up to your feet. If

  69. you can throw that on the screen for us. We're

  70. gonna read this, and we're gonna read it all together.

  71. So I'm gonna say one, two, three, I'm gonna read

  72. it you're gonna read. We're gonna all do it. Do

  73. we have that on there? I don't know if we do,

  74. we may not. Oh there it is. Look at that.

  75. See it's so much small. You don't have to be intimidated.

  76. Somebody are like, when is it gonna end? Look you

  77. can see the ending right here.

  78. Okay, all right, Galatians five, chapter sixteen. On the count

  79. of three, we'll all start reading. Everybody got it. Don't

  80. play me now, don't leave me out here? One, two, three,

  81. So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.

  82. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craze.

  83. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just

  84. the opposite of what the spirit wants. And the spirit

  85. wants to give us desires that are the opposite of

  86. what the sinful nature desires.

  87. Let's finish strong.

  88. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you

  89. are not free.

  90. To carry out your good intentions. Give yourself a round

  91. of app louse.

  92. That you made it through two verses of the Bible.

  93. We almost lost it in the middle. You felt it.

  94. But it's okay, we almost lost it. That was tragic, okay.

  95. Title of the sermon if you're taking notes today. Taking

  96. notes is like a fast pass. When you get to Heaven,

  97. you show them your notes, you get to skip the

  98. line you're laughing at everybody.

  99. See you in two years, So make sure you take notes.

  100. Write this down at the top of your page the

  101. title of the sermon. I can be the better me.

  102. I can be the better me.

  103. Lord.

  104. I thank you for this time speak. We are listening

  105. and Jesus thing we praying. Everybody said, Amen, Okay, I

  106. gotta be honest with you. I don't know if you

  107. relate to this or not, but there are many times

  108. where I realize and feel like there are two means

  109. on the inside of me.

  110. Does anybody else relate to this? Come on?

  111. You feel like that one you that's in traffic that

  112. knows you got the represent sticker on the back, so

  113. people honk.

  114. And you're like, God, bless you. I send peace and

  115. love and grace to you. And then there's also a you.

  116. That will stop your car on Memorial and be like,

  117. I don't care who you are if you ever cut

  118. me off again, don't play me up here.

  119. There's one you. Maybe I'm just talking about me.

  120. There's one me that is the parent that when my

  121. kids are whiling', I like lean down and I'm like,

  122. oh hey, buddy, I know you're just overwhelmed emotionally right now,

  123. and you know you don't have the capacity to articulate.

  124. The emotions because they're all new.

  125. You know, I can't imagine feeling frustrated for the first time.

  126. But we're not gonna do that because that's not the

  127. best option, you know, for the life we want to live. Son.

  128. Then there's another version of me that says, I don't

  129. care what year it is, I will beat you like

  130. you stole something if you ever talk to your mama

  131. like that.

  132. Again, there's another version just sometimes they'd be going back.

  133. And it's funny because at different times I can tell like, okay,

  134. I'm losing the battle here to the lesser me like

  135. I am.

  136. Definitely there's certain things I do. Any of my friends

  137. will know this.

  138. The worst place for this probably is I don't I

  139. don't even honestly try to fight it.

  140. I'm gonna keep real with you.

  141. I just I just let that crazy Charles do whatever

  142. he wants to. And that is when I played basketball.

  143. Okay.

  144. There are a few friends Macaiah as my witness who

  145. will know. When I played back, Brentam, I apologize again.

  146. Just looking in your eyes, I felt convicted. Uh I saw, Brentam.

  147. I've said some crazy stuff to Brentam, just wild things.

  148. I start talking people's family lineage in basket. I'm just like,

  149. this makes sense considering your great great grandfather. Like I

  150. just it doesn't even make sense.

  151. I just I start tying my shoes and I'm like, man,

  152. those are the shoes you're wearing.

  153. That's crazy. Oh my gosh, it's gonna suck to have.

  154. To realize those will not help you. And you spend

  155. all that money on those shoes. How embarrassing. Anyways, I'll

  156. pick you on my team. Like I'm tearing down people

  157. on my team. It doesn't even make sense. But what

  158. my friends said, I like that guy because we're both.

  159. That same in that way.

  160. But those are the funny examples. But we all have

  161. this internal battle. Well, there's one you that really wants

  162. to obey God's word. There's one you that really wants

  163. to listen to what he says.

  164. Then there's another version of you that.

  165. Wants to be honest and says, I want to do

  166. what I want to do. I don't want to have

  167. to turn the other cheek. And I don't want to

  168. have to forgive people. And I don't want to have

  169. to act like that. I don't want to have to

  170. do that. There's a version of you that wants to

  171. do what.

  172. It wants, when it wants, how it wants, with.

  173. Whoever it wants, and we all have this internal battle.

  174. See.

  175. There's a part of me that wants to be honest,

  176. but there's a part of me that knows that sometimes

  177. bend in the truth gets you what you want. There's

  178. a part of me that wants to live a life

  179. of integrity, but there's also a part of me.

  180. These are real thoughts.

  181. And this is why you gotta have community and friends. Literally,

  182. all these thoughts I'm about to share with you. I

  183. have a group text of guys that I will text

  184. these crazy thoughts too, or I'll text my friend, I'll

  185. do a thought check in. But I've text this thought before.

  186. There's one side of me that wants to be faithful

  187. in my marriage, but there's another.

  188. Side of me that says, you know what, you've only

  189. been with one woman? What are you missing out on? See?

  190. It gets quiet when we start talking about the real

  191. thoughts that come from that other you.

  192. You wouldn't dare say them out loud.

  193. By in fact ignoring them, you actually give them more

  194. power because you won't address it. You won't be honest

  195. that there's a version of you that, yes, you're gonna

  196. do this business with integrity, but there's another version of

  197. you that knows you could call that one person and

  198. they could do some things and get you right to

  199. the top. And if we're not honest, we will continue

  200. to ignore the reality of the war that is happening

  201. on the inside of you, and you will slowly lose

  202. by acting like it's not happening. What battle do you

  203. win by ignoring? What wrestle? Do you win by acting

  204. like it's not there? And for so long the Church

  205. and believers have hid under this facade of busting.

  206. Holly favorite and yeah I'm ahead and not the tail.

  207. And blah blah blah blah blah, that's trash. You're really

  208. thinking about changing your character and sleeping with whoever you

  209. want to? Why don't you just say that? What if

  210. they judge me?

  211. And what are they gonna think? And the truth is

  212. the church has done a bad job at creating.

  213. A safe place for that lesser you to say what's

  214. really going on in his head. But I came to

  215. change that today because I need you to know, even

  216. though there is a battle within, even though it's raging,

  217. even though you feel internally stuck, there are some of

  218. you that feel like one.

  219. You maybe feel like surely.

  220. Not everybody else is still fighting like this. The enemy

  221. tries to wrestle you and get you to consider that like,

  222. oh yeah, no, everybody else has it figured out, but

  223. it's just you that struggles back and forth. Or maybe

  224. you feel discouraged because you've been fighting so long.

  225. I need you to know today that there is a

  226. better option.

  227. I came to give you good news that you do

  228. not have to continue to lose the battle to the

  229. lesser you, the version of you that doesn't want to stay,

  230. the version of you that wants to run when it

  231. gets hard, the version of you that just wants to

  232. please itself.

  233. There is a better option.

  234. Because of the power of Jesus Christ on the inside

  235. of you, you can be.

  236. The better you come on. I want to encourage you.

  237. Some of you have been stuck for so long that

  238. you feel like there's no other option but to just

  239. give in to fear. There's no other option but to

  240. just give in to comparison.

  241. That is not the truth.

  242. There is a God who lives on the inside of you,

  243. who didn't just die for you, but wants to empower

  244. you to be the best version of yourself, someone who

  245. walks in confidence, someone who knows who they are.

  246. Somebody say, I can be the better me.

  247. Okay, it ain't nothing gonna change say in a week

  248. like that, say it strong, I can be the better me.

  249. Come on, some of y'all even saying that is hard

  250. because you know your patterns well.

  251. If you could have done it, you would have done

  252. it by now.

  253. And you know you've been struggling with that thought since

  254. you were twelve years old, and you know you've never

  255. got past that hurdle.

  256. That is a lie from the enemy.

  257. I don't know if you know this or not, but

  258. the Bible says the same power that God, Jesus Christ

  259. out of the grave, lives on the inside of you.

  260. You don't have to lose that battle. You can be

  261. the better you.

  262. You can be a person of integrity. You can be

  263. the person who stands up and says, you know what, Hey,

  264. we ain't gonna talk about people. I know, it's all

  265. our family does. And if we take away gossip, we

  266. ain't gonna have no conversation. But we're gonna have to

  267. figure out how to talk about something else because I.

  268. Am deciding to be the best version of me.

  269. I know it takes a lot harder work to build

  270. relationship with people and not just judge people based off

  271. what they look like.

  272. But we're not gonna make assumptions about people.

  273. In fact, we're gonna pray for those people and we're

  274. gonna build relationship. We're gonna those people, We're gonna talk

  275. to those people. We're gonna invite those people to our

  276. house for dinner. Why Because I'm not settling for the

  277. lowest version of me. And some of us need to

  278. check our friendships, check our circles, because there are some

  279. friendships that like the lesser you.

  280. The like the you that don't have no standards.

  281. They like the you that doesn't care about going out

  282. after a certain time. They like the you that says,

  283. oh no, it's not a big deal. They like the

  284. you that they can crazy around and know they ain't

  285. gonna get checked. They like that version of you. But

  286. some of you are gonna have to reintroduce yourself. Get

  287. ready for some awkward conversations because they gonna talk talking

  288. sideways and'll be like, oh oh yeah, yeah, sorry, sorry,

  289. I know we used to talk about that.

  290. But that was the lesser me. That was the me

  291. that didn't know who they were.

  292. That was the mean They didn't know that they were

  293. called and created by God.

  294. Somebody say, I can be the better me. Paul.

  295. He's talking about this war that happens on the inside

  296. of us, and he said, there's two versions of me.

  297. The end of that scripture, at verse seventeen, he says,

  298. there's these two forces that are constantly fighting.

  299. You know. He starts off Galatians one.

  300. And I remember my dad preaches scripture a lot grown up,

  301. and the scripture starts off and says, it's for freedom

  302. that Christ set us free.

  303. And we all love to scream about being free. But

  304. the truth is if you're gonna be free.

  305. That insinuates you getting out of something. And the truth

  306. is there is this battle that is happening, this war

  307. for your freedom, this war for your soul. And what

  308. I have found is the biggest fight for my freedom

  309. is not against the devil. Oh Oh, hold on, because

  310. we give the devil all the credit in the world.

  311. The devil's attacking me, the devil, no, no, no, sometimes you

  312. attacking you.

  313. Oh shoot, because now we're gonna have to take ownership

  314. for our thoughts. In the scripture that says take every

  315. thought captive has some accountability to it. It's not just

  316. all the devil's trying to no, no, no, calm down.

  317. The devil planted one thought.

  318. Maybe when you were ten years old and you've been

  319. wrestling that same thing over and over again. The biggest

  320. fight for your freedom is gonna be you against you.

  321. Write that down, take a note. Let's just acknowledge it.

  322. The biggest fight for my freedom is gonna be me

  323. versus me, and the decision every day when I wake up,

  324. which me am I gonna be today? I person that

  325. gets in the word first and understands the value for this,

  326. or am I gonna be the person who says, Oh,

  327. it's not that big of a deal. You know, it's fine,

  328. I'll get around to it. I'm gonna gonna be the

  329. person that is disciplined because I realize that I'm my

  330. best self when I'm disciplined and committed to something, or

  331. am I just gonna be lazy and say, you know,

  332. I'll get around to it. It's not that big of

  333. a deal. Realizing that your lack of discipline is the

  334. thing that is the domino effect to every area of

  335. your life.

  336. Which you are you gonna choose?

  337. We gotta acknowledge that there's this fight going on the

  338. inside of us. And I love the way Paul is

  339. talking because sometimes we feel like this is a new thing.

  340. Maybe you feel like, man, there's no way nobody else

  341. is doing this. And sometimes I feel I don't know

  342. if I'm bipolar, what's wrong with me?

  343. I'm in your head?

  344. Come on, anybody ever have conversations with yourself? Come on,

  345. be honest, raise your hand and some of y'all that

  346. less of you just said, don't put your hand up,

  347. lie like act regular.

  348. They'll never notice. You just lost right in that question,

  349. right there. Nope, I wait. No.

  350. The truth is this has been going on for thousands

  351. of years.

  352. You are not the first person to feel.

  353. Like, yes, I'm a good person, I don't do that anymore,

  354. and then also be like, but also, it was kind

  355. of fun.

  356. Maybe I do do that. You're not the first one.

  357. In fact, I want to read you a portion of

  358. scripture in Romans seven.

  359. This is what it says.

  360. It says, Uh, I don't really understand myself, for I

  361. want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead,

  362. I do what I hate. He goes on later to say,

  363. I want to do what is right, but I can't.

  364. I want to do what is good, but I don't.

  365. I don't want to.

  366. Do what is wrong, but I do it Anyways.

  367. He goes down and says, I have discovered this principle

  368. of life.

  369. That when I want to do what is right, I

  370. inevitably do what is wrong.

  371. I love God's law with all my heart, but there's

  372. another paw within me that is at war with my mind.

  373. This is the human condition, the war within, the battle

  374. between which version of you or you gonna be. And

  375. today I want to give you hope and some practical

  376. tools on how can you be the better you. Paul's

  377. describing this battle, and I want to We're gonna go

  378. into a little bit of a teaching Bible study here

  379. for a second, So stay with me, he says. The

  380. flesh and the spirit. The flesh is your sin nature.

  381. It is your natural inclination It is why you don't

  382. have to teach a baby to say mind. It is

  383. why your first thought.

  384. Is usually not the kindest thought.

  385. It is your natural inclination that is bent against God.

  386. So you are you don't just you're not just born

  387. with like, Okay, let me see what God's will is.

  388. Let me make sure obathe that, let me forgive people,

  389. let me be cand No, you.

  390. Are born selfish, and that is the war he's talking about.

  391. There's that you, your flesh that wants to do what

  392. it wants to do and does not care what people think,

  393. why they think what they think, and will keep going

  394. by themselves. That is your flesh. And that's one side

  395. of the world. Then there's the other side. That is

  396. the spirit. Everybody say the spirit. The spirit is the

  397. you that is empowered by God, that knows his word,

  398. that knows it has a call and is sensitive to

  399. God's voice, and is the empowering nature of how you

  400. can live to be the best version of yourself. There's

  401. the selfish you and the spirit you. Now here's what

  402. I found in my research, in my life and in

  403. my experience of what happens. You see, we are all

  404. born with the flesh, the selfish us, the lesser us,

  405. the one that doesn't want to do what people tell

  406. us to do. And what happens is is the way

  407. we try to tame the flesh is with rules.

  408. Follow me. This is what we do. We have ourselves.

  409. That's like, hoom, I want to talk crazy to whoever

  410. I want to how one Two I'm gonna cuss people

  411. out in traffic. I'm gonna cuss people out just if

  412. I feel like it.

  413. I'm just gonna go crazy. Let's say that's your situation.

  414. What we do, if we're trying to tame that version

  415. of us, we just make up a bunch of rules. Okay,

  416. I'm just not gonna do it. Rule number one, don't

  417. cuss the people. We screw that rule down and.

  418. We say, okay, I'm just gonna not cuss it people.

  419. I won't. Okay, hold on, I won't.

  420. Then somebody come up and talking to you like I won't.

  421. Okay, hold on, let me go back to my rule. Okay,

  422. we don't cuss the people.

  423. What you don't realize is your flesh does not care

  424. about the made up rule you're trying to tell it.

  425. This is why this does not work. This is why

  426. when we sell people that gospel.

  427. It doesn't work. Don't have sex before you're married. Why don't?

  428. Why though, Well, because it's bad, Well then why are

  429. you doing it when you're married?

  430. If it's bad?

  431. Well, I mean it's good, it's good then, but it's

  432. bad now.

  433. But just don't do it. What about any tools? No,

  434. that's weird, don't mention that. I'm not gonna talk to

  435. you about it. Just don't do it.

  436. It's bad, and then on your honeymoon magic will happen.

  437. And you'll realize, oh, it's good. Now.

  438. That's our educational system for how to deal with sexual purity.

  439. Don't do it until you have.

  440. This day, and then you do it and it's great.

  441. That was not my experience, and.

  442. I'm not saying that for any other reason other than

  443. just we just build these whole worlds or like, hey,

  444. it's bad.

  445. And that's just a rule that at some point your

  446. flesh is like, Okay, I know it ain't bad.

  447. And if you said it's bad, mom and dad, y'all

  448. ain't doing it right because I talk to some people.

  449. So rule number one cooked boom, that's not true. I

  450. know it's not bad. Come on, this is and this

  451. is what happens with any rule. You said, Eventually your

  452. flesh is like yay, but let's just see for ourselves.

  453. And we get so discouraged because we set rule after

  454. rule after rule, and at some point you lose the

  455. battle to the lesser you. This is not new in

  456. fact at all. Paul, he speaks of this. He has

  457. so many different words that he says.

  458. Today.

  459. You know, I've been out for a little bit, so

  460. I got two Bibles today, so we go. I'm gonna

  461. read this to you. This is Paul explaining this issue

  462. with these rules. This is the message version Roman seven.

  463. He says this.

  464. He said, do you remember how it how it was?

  465. I do perfectly well. The Law Code started out as

  466. an excellent piece of work. So he's helping people understand

  467. this war within you have your flesh.

  468. And then the law was given the ten Commandments.

  469. That grew to over three hundred and eighty four rules

  470. that people had to follow, and he's.

  471. Talking to them about He says this.

  472. He says, what happened though, was that Sin found a

  473. way to pervert the command into a temptation, making a

  474. piece of forbidden fruit. The law Code, instead of being

  475. used to guide me was now used to seduce me.

  476. It says, the very command that was supposed to guide

  477. me into life was cleverly used to trip me up.

  478. Sin did what is so famous for doing, using the

  479. good as a cover up to tempt.

  480. Me to do what would finally destroy me. What is

  481. he saying? He says, not only do your rules break.

  482. Down, but the entire commandments from the Old Testament the

  483. flesh warred.

  484. Against and kept breaking down.

  485. He says, this Jesus, God gives the law to the

  486. children of Israel and their internal flesh. He's like no

  487. other gods before me. They're like, all right, bet cool.

  488. Moses goes up on the mountain. Two seconds later, like,

  489. who got some gold? We're about to make a calf.

  490. We're about to burn up your ear rings. We're gonna

  491. expose a couple of y'all who got fake jewelry. And

  492. not a big deal. But and why am I saying this?

  493. I'm saying because even the law that was given by God,

  494. your flesh wears down. You need something more powerful than

  495. a list of rules. You need something more powerful than

  496. just your will to get past this battle. You need

  497. something more powerful than just I'm gonna do seventy five

  498. hard and that'll make me better.

  499. That's not it.

  500. Do seventy five hard a thousand times. It can't break

  501. down that selfish you. You need something with more power.

  502. You need something that has the power to defeat death, hell,

  503. and the grave. You need the Holy Spirit, the Holy ghost,

  504. the one who stands alongside working on the inside of

  505. you to win this war. And I came to encourage you.

  506. I love your discipline, I love your list. They are amazing.

  507. But if you are solely.

  508. Leaning on the works of you doing good, you will

  509. always lose the battle to the lesser you. If it

  510. is just a list of to do. You need something

  511. more than rules. You need a relationship. You need something

  512. more than just saying oh, I'll do it by willpower.

  513. You need God's power if you're gonna be the better you.

  514. So we're gonna walk through three ways. And I love

  515. this is probably one of my favorite, Like I got

  516. three points. The title for it is this. Once you

  517. write this down, how to beat yourself in a fight.

  518. Come on, because you fighting you, so we need to

  519. know how to beat you.

  520. How to be yourself in a fight. Number one, write

  521. this down please.

  522. First point very spiritual how to beat yourself in a fight.

  523. Flee the stupid. Write that down.

  524. And if you just got offended because I said stupid, man,

  525. I'm sorry. Uh here's point number one. The most spiritual

  526. thing you could do in a fight is sometimes realizing

  527. I got no business fighting this individual. If I want

  528. to come, if I was out somewhere at a restaurant

  529. and somebody walked past me and nudged me, and let

  530. me tell you, I need no reason. This is a

  531. part of my flesh. Abby will tell you I am.

  532. I have been in one fight my entire life. One fight.

  533. Dude made fun of me and I just swung off,

  534. hit him in the face.

  535. Teacher grabbed me. That was the one fight I was

  536. been in. So I don't even know if it counts.

  537. He tried to hit me a cunning hoo hit that

  538. mayweather on him. But I was in a shell, you know.

  539. I uh but uh, one fight. But I just be

  540. walking around like what what what? Abby will be like,

  541. somebody will look like what they're looking at you for it?

  542. She's like, well they probably go to the church, sweetheart.

  543. I'm like, yeah, okay, yes, So I've ever seen you

  544. in public and you looked at me, and I was like, what, Like,

  545. I literally will be riding my bike my friend Andler

  546. he's like, what is wrong with you? We'll ride and

  547. somebody will mumble something going past. I'll be like what

  548. you say, I'll slam on my brakes, just like I'm

  549. about to fight somebody in this skinny outfit.

  550. I got tights on and I'm like, let's go. But

  551. if somebody walked past and bumped me and I turned

  552. around and it was Roosevelt, just don't tell you how

  553. this goes. Yosh. Hey, brother, First of all, good to

  554. see you.

  555. Uh you know what, don't even worry about it, brother,

  556. don't even.

  557. Yeah, I was in your way. That was my bad.

  558. I shouldn't even been staying here, you know what I'm saying,

  559. Like it was bad on my part to be in

  560. your pathway. Some of the fights were fighting. You got

  561. no business being in.

  562. Flick you. We are in.

  563. Fights for our good day with random people who honk

  564. at you.

  565. You get one honk and the whole day.

  566. You fighting a bad attitude just seeing everybody hates me.

  567. And this is why, this is why I don't even

  568. drive the car. You walk into your job.

  569. See look at y'all, just look at this crazy. I

  570. can't stay in this job. You are fighting stupid And

  571. the first thing is I came back. I was like,

  572. this really spiritual thing. Some of us need to stop

  573. fighting the stupid stuff. You don't need to be in

  574. certain dms. Let me just say this, if you are married,

  575. dating someone, or have any sense of I was gonna

  576. walk right off the stage. I'm trying to get as

  577. close as I can. The concussion is still a little

  578. bit there. I was about to get another one. H

  579. I was about to get baptized.

  580. If you are married, you don't need to be dming

  581. or facetiming any girl for no reason at all.

  582. You're just my friend, and we was friends before I met.

  583. I don't care who they are. That's stupid. No, you

  584. just don't understand our relationship. Okay, dog. So it's super

  585. fruitful to your marriage for you to have someone that

  586. you were really close to before you met your wife,

  587. that you've kept a tie with, just in case you

  588. really need somebody to talk to.

  589. Great argument. Let me know how that works out.

  590. That's really helpful to your relationship to be in ten

  591. other dms just talking about stuff y'all have in common.

  592. Ooh, we got quiet Now it's stupid. It don't make

  593. no sense. If you're struggling with comparison.

  594. It may be dumb for you to get on Instagram

  595. and scroll through and follow all these people whose job

  596. is to make up a fake life and act like.

  597. It stay real life. That may not be smart. I'm

  598. trying to be honest with you because I love you.

  599. There is a lot. Here's what happen. Weapons. There are

  600. real battles.

  601. We have to fight, and we spend the God given

  602. energy that he gave us for the real fight.

  603. All other fights he didn't have no business us being in.

  604. So you over here just getting worked by fear, getting

  605. worked by lack of integrity, like.

  606. And you just getting destroyed. And then you come over here,

  607. you're all limping and dragging. You're like, God, I'm one

  608. of your most faithful servants. I'm a soldier in the

  609. Lord's army. He's like, you have been running yourself into

  610. the ground.

  611. Some stuff we gotta run. I love the message version

  612. of the Bible. In two Timothy two two twenty two,

  613. there was a lot of two So geus.

  614. My brain's still coming back, Okay.

  615. It says this flea or run all childish indulgences. Some

  616. of the stuff we're fighting is childish. One comment from

  617. a friend or a spouse and you'd.

  618. Be like, see that's why you Or you could be.

  619. Like, oh, you know what, not a big deal, learning

  620. to let stuff go? How are you gonna live the

  621. better version of yourself? Some stuff you just gonna realize

  622. that is not worth my energy, That is not.

  623. Worth the fight.

  624. Yes I have maybe even you have the right to

  625. be frustrated, but is your piece worth it? Some of y'all,

  626. I'm gonna help you. I'm gonna help you Oa November

  627. right now. Okay, you gonna show up for Thanksgiving and

  628. there's gonna be that yanky family member. I got a

  629. lot of words I can say, but let's just use

  630. jankie another word.

  631. My grandmother would say, it's flicted. Y'all don't know that

  632. abut fflicted if y'a ain't heard that. But Granny has

  633. still be like, some of y'all just flicted.

  634. But they gonna come in and you know they're gonna

  635. start talking crazy. At this point, the issue is on

  636. you to expect something different.

  637. You gonna ruin your day.

  638. If you don't just prepare, they gonna talk crazy and

  639. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna have no business in it.

  640. I'm not gonna deal. I'm not gonna get into an

  641. argument about it. I know they're gonna bring up all

  642. types of stuff. I know they're gonna try to argue.

  643. I'm not gonna deal with it because that is dumb.

  644. And I'm gonna decide I'm gonna have a good Thanksgiving

  645. regardless of what they say. Yes, they gonna act while

  646. they gonna try to stir up something. They go, Yes,

  647. that's what they're gonna do. But as for me, I've

  648. decided I'm not gonna let them drag me down to

  649. the lesser version of myself that's arguing over stuffing. Got

  650. it hit now, But in November, that third Thursday, you're

  651. gonna think shut ab Oshet.

  652. Charles had a word, okay, number two, flee the stupid

  653. number one. Number two.

  654. Feed the spirit, Feed the spirit. I heard somebody say

  655. one time, you don't eat what you crave. You crave

  656. what you eat, So you gotta feed the best version

  657. of you. It does not make sense if one version

  658. of you, if there's one.

  659. Part of you that is selfish.

  660. You need to work on the side of you that

  661. is giving and is humble and puts others first. So

  662. it does that make sense to build and set your

  663. life up where everything is convenient for you and you

  664. don't have to sacrifice anything and then expect to win

  665. the war with kindness and giving and forgiveness. It doesn't

  666. make any sense because you're not feeding the right thing.

  667. If you want your spirit to win the war, you

  668. gotta feed your spirit.

  669. There's an old story.

  670. Pastors have told it a kajillion times, but they talk about.

  671. There's two wolves.

  672. There's one that's strong and you're feeding it, you're with

  673. it every day, and it's out in the.

  674. Wilderness running like normal.

  675. And there's one that you put in a cave and

  676. you don't talk.

  677. To it and you leave it alone and it doesn't

  678. have the pack.

  679. And it says, if you put them in a fight,

  680. which one's gonna win. And the answer is, it doesn't

  681. matter where you put them. The one you feed is

  682. gonna win. So it does it matter what situation you're in.

  683. If you are not feeding your spirit, you're not gonna

  684. win the war.

  685. So what is feeding your spirit? Reading the Word. This

  686. is where there ain't.

  687. No tricks, tips or skipovers.

  688. You gotta read the Bible. That's feeding your spirit. Now.

  689. This is not time based.

  690. And I'm saying that because some of you feel like

  691. the only way to feed your spirit is to do

  692. a Bible plan that is like, read the Bible in

  693. six minutes, the whole thing, and you're like, Okay, I'm

  694. gonna feed my spirit.

  695. And then you give up at Leviticus and you're like,

  696. oh man, okay, well that was weird.

  697. Uh So I'm not saying but to daily feed your spirit,

  698. you read the Word.

  699. Another way you feed your spirit is worship. Having worship.

  700. There have been seasons of.

  701. Our life as a family where when we walked in

  702. the house, we turned on worship and that was all

  703. that played all day. Why because we needed a good atmosphere.

  704. We needed our spirit to be fed. There have been

  705. times where it's like, when I get in the car,

  706. I'm even listening to somebody preaching, I'm listening to something

  707. about the Word. I'm listening to right now, I'm doing

  708. a random study.

  709. While I've been out with the Bible Project. They have

  710. this podcast that's amazing.

  711. I'm studying some weird ancient stuff I don't even know

  712. if I'll use any day, But it's just about the

  713. Bible feed your spirit. How do you feed your spirit?

  714. Community?

  715. Godly community is a way you can feed your spirit.

  716. You get around people that are saying, hey, how was your.

  717. Week this week?

  718. How do we do as husbands serving our wives. That's

  719. a different question. That's gonna feed your spirit in a

  720. different way. How did we do letting go of control

  721. of the future this week? And how are we going

  722. to continue to trust God with the future of our

  723. family and the future of our children? Like that, community

  724. feeds your spirit. So the first thing, everybody say, flee

  725. the stupid.

  726. It's not Hilre.

  727. Your great grandmother would be mad at me for you

  728. saying stupid in church.

  729. But we've come a long way. Ah.

  730. The next one, we're gonna feed the spirit. Last one,

  731. write this down. Fix your thoughts, fix your thoughts, fix

  732. your thoughts. The Bible is very clear on the power

  733. of fixing your thoughts.

  734. I remember going up my mom.

  735. She gave me this little card, and my mom she's

  736. watching this, no doubt, and she'll remember this. But she

  737. gave me this little card and it was a Bible verse.

  738. It was Philippians four eight, and this scripture is talks

  739. about fixing your thoughts and what you should be fixing

  740. your thoughts on.

  741. And I remember my mom.

  742. It was up in my bathroom and I kept tearing

  743. it down and like putting it on my table. And

  744. every day she would come into my room, pick that

  745. thing up and stick.

  746. It back on there, and I was like, mo, this

  747. is we. It was like one of.

  748. Those cheesy things from like Mardelle's, like the color. It

  749. was like some horrible font, like really big, just an

  750. awful poster.

  751. But every day she would put that up there.

  752. And this is the scripture. I want to read it

  753. to you. It's Philippians four eight. It says this some

  754. of it up.

  755. Friends.

  756. I'd say, you'll do your best by filling your mind

  757. and meditating on things that are true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling,

  758. and gracious. Focus on the best, not the worst, the beautiful,

  759. not the ugly, things to praise, not things to curse.

  760. Put into practice what you've learned, what you've heard and

  761. saw and realized. Do that, and the God who makes

  762. everything work together will work you into the most excellent harmonies.

  763. If we're gonna win the war that's.

  764. On the inside of us, some of us have to

  765. make a decision to fix our thoughts.

  766. Now here's what I'm not saying.

  767. I'm not saying fix your thoughts like you are a

  768. broken project to be rendered perfect.

  769. I'm saying fix your thoughts.

  770. The original word there it literally means to set up,

  771. to build, and to inhabit. The word picture for this

  772. word in the original language would be build a house

  773. with all good thoughts in it and move into it.

  774. That's when it says fix it literally is set up

  775. a life, set up a house, set up a place

  776. that where the only thing in this house are things first.

  777. That are true.

  778. Some of us, if we're gonna win the war on

  779. the inside of us, we gotta focus on things.

  780. That are true. The truth is you are still married

  781. and you did make it this far. That's what's true.

  782. That's the truth.

  783. The truth is you did raise your kids in God's house.

  784. You did do your best for what you That is

  785. what is true. What is true is you cannot control

  786. everything and everyone.

  787. That's true. So the reality is there is something in

  788. front of you that you have to find peace with.

  789. What is true in your life, not what's possible. If

  790. you focus on what's possible, you'll spin out. It's possible

  791. that there could be a crazy I don't even know

  792. what scenario that happens right in the second. That's possible.

  793. Well, it is true is God has protected me multiple

  794. times when I thought I was gonna die. That's what's true.

  795. What's true is God said he has a plan for

  796. my life. What is true is even if the worst

  797. thing happened, I'm surrounded by.

  798. Community that would love me take care of me. What

  799. is true is God is in control. So that's what

  800. I choose to focus on.

  801. They said, why don't you focus on the beautiful not

  802. the ugly?

  803. This has been my thought and prayer and I'm gonna

  804. close with this.

  805. Me and my wife were having a conversation. I was

  806. talking something that actually wrote down. I try to like

  807. do this practice thing in this little journal every single day.

  808. And when I wrote down after the accident, so jingly

  809. what happened. I was riding my bike and which I

  810. gotta say, the guy who hit me was super tore up.

  811. He's been super kind, like we're fine.

  812. There were some people I posted about at an accident

  813. and like forty people were like, we will find them

  814. right now, like they just went Liam Neeson.

  815. It was like, I will find you and I will

  816. kill It was like, okay, it's calm down pretty much.

  817. I signaled he didn't see it.

  818. Boom smoked me like going forty miles an hour, bam cooked.

  819. So got hit. Yeah, some of y'all were like, I

  820. thought you fell over.

  821. No, I got straight mowed down by a car. But

  822. after that happened was journaling, and what I wrote down

  823. in my journal was God, in any situation, let the

  824. first and the biggest thing I see is you and

  825. what you're doing. Any situation I go through, let the

  826. first and the biggest thing I see is you and

  827. what you're doing.

  828. What is that? That is a decision to fix my thoughts.

  829. It's an internal decision that every person in this room,

  830. empowered by the Holy Spirit, has the ability to make.

  831. God let me fix my thoughts on you and what

  832. you're doing.

  833. So, from everything that happened, even a couple of weeks ago,

  834. what I see is, oh, my gosh, my God protected me.

  835. My God kept me safe.

  836. I know people that was going and fail in a

  837. driveway and broke their arm and I ain't got no

  838. broken bones, no internal bleeding. My memory was just a

  839. little bit fuzzy, but I'm still here.

  840. Hello, somebody. The biggest thing I choose to see is.

  841. God, what you and you are doing, who you are,

  842. how you're moving so in your relationship.

  843. Yes, y'all might be going through some stuff, But the

  844. biggest thing you want to see God, you have sustained us.

  845. We have went through so much stuff and we did

  846. not think we were gonna stay married. But God, the

  847. thing I choose to see, what I'm deciding to fix

  848. my thoughts on is the fact that you have sustained me.

  849. And that's enough for me. Fix your thoughts God, who

  850. are you and what are you doing? Yes, you want

  851. to be married. Yes you want to find someone that

  852. is real. I'm not saying you don't acknowledge that. But

  853. the first and the biggest thing you decide to fix

  854. your thoughts on is God. I thank you that you

  855. are making me and molding me into somebody. Lord, God,

  856. who is gonna be able to be a beautiful partner

  857. in a marriage and you are guiding me? God, I

  858. thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are enough for me.

  859. Right in this season here's the thing. I can't do

  860. that for you. I can't fix your thoughts. You gotta

  861. fix your thoughts.

  862. You gotta decide what house you want to live in.

  863. You gotta decide what heart you want to live with.

  864. And I truly believe that's the worship team to come

  865. out closing service down. I truly believe every person in

  866. this room and under the sound of my voice, you

  867. have the power.

  868. To be the best version of you. The version of you.

  869. That does not walk around constantly worried about what other

  870. people are thinking. The version of you that wakes up

  871. in the morning expecting God to do something great. The

  872. version of you that the first thought you have when

  873. you get an idea is not this will never work,

  874. but what if this is the one.

  875. Idea God gave me that changes the world.

  876. The version of you that is in a dark situation,

  877. but you look back over your life and you say, God,

  878. I know this is dark, but I remember other times

  879. when it was dark, and so God, I thank you

  880. that this past memory I have is bringing light to

  881. this current situation.

  882. The version of you that hopes for something more than

  883. just what your family has. The version of.

  884. You that dreams of a relationship that is completely trustworthy

  885. and completely vulnerable and doesn't settle for just being housemates

  886. or being legal partners. But a version of you that

  887. believes this marriage can be full of.

  888. Love and hope. And I know we're.

  889. Going through right now, and I know the divorce papers

  890. are on the table, but I have a belief that

  891. there is something God can do that we can be

  892. the best version.

  893. Of this marriage.

  894. I know I feel stuck, and you may be addicted

  895. right now, and you may find yourself just having to

  896. watch pornography or sleep with someone just to even go

  897. to bed at night. But there is a version of

  898. you that doesn't have to give away parts of itself

  899. to feel something, but knows that you are something because

  900. the God of the universe has value on you, and

  901. he loves you and he.

  902. Cares about you.

  903. There's a version of you that doesn't have to feel

  904. better about itself.

  905. By judging other people.

  906. There's a version of you that doesn't have to use

  907. the Bible as a way to manipulate your family to

  908. get them to do what you want. There's a version

  909. of you that doesn't have to look at other people

  910. and say I don't know about them, but there's a

  911. version of you that lives with your arms wide open.

  912. There's a version of you.

  913. That realizes you are a child of the creator of

  914. the universe, and no matter what happens, you find peace, contentment,

  915. and confidence in that reality. We ask everybody to stand

  916. up all over this room.

  917. Galatians five. The obvious.

  918. Verse in this whole writing is Galatians five twenty two.

  919. You may be heard before. It's the fruit of the spirit.

  920. As a matter of fact, the word of the year

  921. this year at Transformation Church is fruit. And I want

  922. to close this service with what I believe is a

  923. prophetic word on the best version of you. It's the

  924. fruit of the spirit. It's what happens in your heart

  925. when you continue.

  926. To feed that thing.

  927. And so I want to read this over you. It

  928. says this in Galatians five twenty two. You want to

  929. know what happens when we live God's way. He brings

  930. gift into our life the same way that fruit would.

  931. Appear in an orchard.

  932. In an orchard, things like affection for others and exuberance

  933. about life, serenity.

  934. We develop a willingness.

  935. To stick with things, a sense of compassion in our heart,

  936. a conviction that a basic holiness permeonates the things around us.

  937. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to

  938. force our way, We're able to marshall and direct.

  939. Our lives and energy wisely. That's the best version of you.

  940. And what I love about the way that.

  941. The message Bible frames it is it doesn't position it

  942. as things you do, but someone you are.

  943. He says, Hey, it's not peace is something you just do.

  944. It's in who you are. You're a peaceful person.

  945. You don't just have peace momentarily or for a segment. No. No,

  946. when you walk into a room, the God of the universe,

  947. because he lives on the inside of you, changes the atmosphere.

  948. And everywhere you go there is peace.

  949. No no, no. You don't just have self control for a

  950. moment to not do a bad thing. No, no.

  951. Know how you live and build.

  952. Your life is someone who is disciplined and has has

  953. beat themselves into submission and saying, hey, we're not gonna

  954. live like that because we have a greater calling.

  955. It's the best version of you. And I want to

  956. take a moment.

  957. We're gonna close out service, but I'm asking everybody to

  958. bow your heads and close your eyes, nobody moving for

  959. a moment.

  960. But I want to pray over you.

  961. If you've been feel like you've been losing the battle

  962. to the lesser, you come on. I want you to

  963. be honest. I'm gonna count the three. I'm gonna ask

  964. you to raise your hand.

  965. In just a moment. But if you have felt the

  966. war on the inside of you.

  967. There's parts of you that haven't been living up to

  968. the standards you know. There's parts of you that just

  969. feel tired. You're tired of fighting. You're tired of falling

  970. in the same cycles. You're tired of being stuck in depression.

  971. You're tired of being worried about everything. You're tired of

  972. of not knowing what's gonna happen, and it turns into

  973. just acting out. If you're tired of that, I promise

  974. you the God of the universe stands ready to help you.

  975. And his command to you is not do more. His

  976. command to you is not try harder. His command to

  977. you is surrender. His command to you is take up

  978. my burden and take up my yoke, for it's easy

  979. and it's light. If you walked in heavy today, if

  980. you walked in beat.

  981. Down by life.

  982. There is a God who wants to give you a

  983. fresh start where you can live as the best version

  984. of yourself.

  985. So, if you're in this room and you say, you

  986. know what, I'm tired of losing that fight. I follow Jesus,

  987. but I've been losing the fight. I'm gonna count the three.

  988. I don't want you to lift your hands. I want

  989. you to be honest. Do not worry about who's around you.

  990. This is about you.

  991. Winning the battle for your own freedom. One, two, three,

  992. Raise your hand.

  993. Right now.

  994. You've been beat down, you feel like there's some areas

  995. you're losing.

  996. I want to pray over you God.

  997. You see every person right now, you see every believer

  998. with their hand raised, and right now, Holy Spirit, I

  999. thank you that you already live on the inside of them.

1000. So I call out what is already in them.

1001. That you do have self control, that you do have peace,

1002. that you do have love, that the God of the

1003. universe will begin to permeate every part of your heart.

  1004. I speak against disappointment.

1005. And depression because you feel like you lost too many fights.

1006. That is not your story.

1007. You can be the best version of you. I thank

1008. you God that today would be a brand new start.

1009. There's a new confession that you're walking with your head

  1010. held high.

1011. There's a new pep in your step. God, I thank you.

1012. Today is a fresh start. Thank you Jesus.

1013. You can put your hands down, every eye close still,

1014. just for a moment, one to the people I just

1015. prayed for. I want to say this that knew you

1016. is right around the corner. I feel that so strongly.

1017. Some of you need to write that down. That needs

1018. to be your confession. The new me is right around

1019. the corner. There's a second group of people in here.

1020. And you have been trying to fight this fight by yourself.

1021. You don't have Jesus in your heart. All that means

1022. is you surrender. You stop trying to fight. You've stopped

1023. trying to do it yourself. If you're tired of fighting.

1024. Alone, you feel lonely. That's it. That's the feeling that's

  1025. in your heart.

1026. If you were to go in there and just be

1027. honest with your emotions, right now.

  1028. You feel lonely.

1029. You're carrying the weight of your family, You're carrying the

1030. weight of your calling. You're carrying the weight of the

1031. vices and struggles that you feel like won't leave.

1032. You if you need help.

1033. Accepting Jesus is just saying I need help. I can't

  1034. do it by myself.

1035. Here's all I ask you to do.

1036. I'm gonna ask everybody to bout your heads and close

  1037. your eyes.

1038. We're all gonna pray a prayer together. We're gonna pray

  1039. a prayer together.

1040. And it's for those who are for the first time,

1041. or maybe you're rededicating your life back to Jesus, but

1042. you're saying he is my Lord and savior.

1043. We're gonnall pray this prayer.

1044. Together, and then we get done with this prayer right

1045. when we say amen. If you prayed that prayer and

1046. you say, you know what, that's my first time I'm

1047. meant to I'm giving my life to Jesus. When we

1048. finish this prayer, I want you to raise your hand

1049. high in the air saying I gave my life to Jesus.

  1050. Let's all pray together.

1051. Everybody say, Dear Heavenly Father, I love you, Thank you

1052. Jesus for giving me a fresh start. I admit I've

1053. made mistakes, Save me, change me, make me new in

  1054. Jesus name.

1055. I pray Amen. Can we celebrate if you just made

  1056. that decision.

1057. I want you to lift your hand up high right now,

1058. come on, come on, we got wrong right here, I

1059. see you, brother, So proud of you.

1060. Come on right here, so proud of you. Keep your

1061. hand up, keep your hand up.

1062. Our team is bringing you a bible right now, come on,

  1063. keep your hand up.

  1064. If you see.

1065. Somebody with their hand up, give them a hug, tell

  1066. them your lover.

1067. We are so so proud of you, so proud of you.

1068. Best decision you could ever make.

1069. If you just made that choice, it is the best

1070. decision you could ever make.

1071. We would love to give your hugs, shake your hand,

1072. Let somebody know around you, and we love if you

  1073. let us know.

1074. If you text the word save, if you text that

1075. to the number that's on the screen, or scan the

1076. QR code, or in your Bible, there's a little card

1077. it tells you what you can do next.

1078. But we are so proud that you just made that decision.

1079. It's the best thing ever. Can we celebrate those who

1080. just made the decision to follow Jesus.

1081. Hey listen, it's flood Sunday, and something we do here

1082. that's a little wild. As we do something called spontaneous baptisms.

  1083. What's that mean?

1084. That means you are here and you saw people get

  1085. baptized and you were.

1086. Like, dang it, should have signed up.

1087. Well, guess what, we can still baptize you right now

1088. in some of you the beginning and the fresh start

1089. you need to the best version of yourself and saying

  1090. I'm making.

1091. A decision today to follow Jesus. So I'm gonna invite

1092. my friend Will. He's gonna come up.

1093. But if you want to get baptized, you can do

1094. it right now. Our team is gonna worship, We're gonna sing,

1095. we have stuff for you. I think there's people in

1096. the backing room. I'm not gonna fake like I know

1097. which way to point you because I don't.

1098. But if you want to make.

1099. That decision today, it's the best thing you can do.

1100. And we're so grateful for you. Can we give it

1101. up for everybody who gave their life to Jesus. Oh,

1102. come on, let's do it. Let's do it.

1103. Thank you for joining us today. If you said that

1104. prayer and accept it Jesus into your heart, it's the
