Well welcome, we are glad that you are here in the Prescott location,
-
Prescott Valley Park Collective. We are happy to be journeying alongside you as
-
well and so welcome to you as we walk together as a family in many places that
-
includes Paul and Baghdad. Welcome to you guys today, Paul and I hear that you're
-
having a Super Bowl party. We'll talk about that in a minute but welcome to you
-
and also anyone in the online family, McGinnis family, I think I'm saying that
-
right but welcome to you. I saw that you guys were there. Welcome to you from our
-
Heights Fam and that you're a part of that we get to journey alongside and
-
along with that Elizabeth she says that she is in the snowy woods of Wisconsin
-
today. So we love that you're with us, we're glad we're not with you in person.
-
So just saying but welcome wherever you are, however you got here, welcome, we're
-
glad that we get to do this together. One of the things I love is that we are
-
family. We don't choose that, God chooses that for us. He's the one that says we are
-
in family and so as a family we just get to journey alongside all seasons of life,
-
all moments of life. There's a big one coming today apparently. There's two
-
teams that nobody cares about and they're gonna they're gonna meet, oh sorry
-
Walt you know maybe you care, you care but so let's just get it out of the way
-
chiefs fans where are you? I was alright. Eagles fans where are you? If you're in the
-
chat just write I don't care or Eagles or Chiefs whatever it is. If you don't
-
care about football where are you at? Okay you realize that they're gonna be the
-
happiest people at the end of the day because what they did is they got to show
-
up to a party, eat a whole bunch of good food and they don't care who wins or
-
loses. It's great they go home and they're content right like so some of you
-
may be thinking the green is a nod to the Eagles. Truth be told they changed my
-
cast this week and it's the only one I can get over or not the only one but one
-
of the few I can get over my cast so that's why we're in green today but
-
here's the thing right like Kansas City cheats does that sound like right?
-
We'll see who paid the refs we'll see we'll see we'll see fourth quarter last
-
minute that holding call right that everybody else goes I don't know if
-
that was or not and some refs like yes it was but whatever you whatever
-
side you're on whether you know whether your chiefs are not whether your
-
chiefs are not or Eagles like just just have fun just have fun I know for me the
-
win is the party the win is the party today my grandson gets to be there
-
there's lots of food lots of friends that we call family and that's what we're
-
gonna do so there you go whatever you do have fun hopefully this is fun for you
-
today hopefully that as we journey together there's a piece of this that
-
you go okay this fits with us moving as a family right like like one of the
-
things that's this beautiful as we get to do these collections where we anchor
-
into a conversation if you were here last week you know that we started the
-
critical journey what I need you to know about the critical journey it is not
-
ours as a church it is not mine we did not create it it is a book that we're
-
taking it from you just need to know something that while we look at this
-
this is the book and we use other resources to help us understand what it
-
is to be on this journey and so the critical journey is a way of doing that
-
and so the idea behind the critical journey is that there is a way that God
-
created you and shaped your soul that as a human you develop spiritually and so
-
this is true of every single person on the planet and you can go into different
-
religions different followings and what you'll find is that those that people in
-
different spaces that we are all formed in the same stages now I don't love the
-
word stage stage feels to me like you go from this one to that one to that one
-
life is never that clean right there's it there's I like to refer to it more
-
like a bird's nest is what and we'll talk about that in weeks to come where you
-
go and you shore up another part of the nest is what you're doing but you have a
-
home base so if you think of a stage is a home base and what you do from a home
-
base is you launch outward and so last week if you were here I mean getting to
-
see the Holy Spirit go to work is amazing but to get to see it in every single
-
service across every location it's just a gift right it's something we should
-
never get old of seeing Jesus save people never gets old agreed right like
-
that's something we should celebrate we should be for we should we should lean
-
into and the hope is the hope is that what happens within the spiritual journey
-
there has to be an awakening there has to be a moment where somebody has
-
recognition of God in our case there has to be a moment when you see Jesus as
-
Savior of your soul there has to be a moment when you trust him and last week
-
we talked about that that's stage one is recognition of God now something
-
naturally happens within stage one as you recognize okay I understand who Jesus
-
is you begin to live in that you begin to enjoy that you begin to understand
-
wait there's way more to this than I originally thought and so it creates this
-
need in you where you begin to go there's stuff I got to learn because when I
-
look at you you know Jesus in a way that I don't know Jesus and so I want to I
-
want to know what that is right like or you watch somebody worship in this
-
place and you go they worship different I want to know what it is in them that how
-
they stepped into that with Jesus and so the idea is that as we continue over the
-
weeks we're building the scaffold right and the idea of a scaffold is that you've
-
got to have your first platform in place and that platform now for some of you is
-
the recognition of God that you have a moment where you go I know I stepped in
-
the relationship I know I gave my life to Jesus and you have that scaffold so to
-
speak in place now you'll spend a lot of your life going back and reassuring and
-
rebuilding up that piece of that scaffold but what happens is you move on you
-
move forward you begin to build the scaffold further to prepare for stage
-
two and stage two is wrapped around this idea of life of discipleship life of
-
discipleship right that you enter into this moment where you go okay there's
-
more to this and I need a place to belong those are two of the driving
-
factors around it we see this pattern lived out in the life of Jesus and
-
specifically in Luke chapter 5 and verse 1 it says this on one day as Jesus was
Luke 5 chapter mention
-
standing by the lake of Genesereth the people were crowding around him and
-
listening to the word of God he saw at the waters edge two boats left there by
-
the fishermen who were washing their nets he got into one of the boats the
-
one belonging to Simon and asked him to put out a little from shore then he sat
-
down in the boat and taught the people from the boat when he had finished
-
speaking he said to Simon put out into the deep water and let down your nets
-
for catch Simon answered master we've worked hard all night and they haven't
-
caught anything but because you say so I will let down the nets when they had
-
done so they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break so
-
they signaled to their partners in the other boats to come help them and they
-
came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink when when Simon
-
Peter saw this he fell at Jesus's knees and said go away from me Lord I am a
-
sinful man and so there's this moment there's a story that we're told that
-
that for the for the early disciples their meeting of Jesus was hey we've been
-
out all night working we've caught no fish which was for them that's the
-
business they're in so not catching fish is bad for their business bad for
-
what's happening in life so they come back and you can imagine there's a
-
there's an element of that like I'm discouraged and in their discouragement
-
they're asked to push out by this rabbi this teacher so which they do so he
-
didn't goes tell tells them go out and fish again which for them would have
-
been annoying as it would be for us there would be a moment of this where
-
you're like man we've already done this you're not a fisherman you're telling us
-
to do this they do it and they catch so many fish that there's this moment that
-
if we go back to last week there is a recognition of God that takes place in
-
their life that there's this moment where where Simon says that you got to get
-
away from me because I realized how different you are than I am Lord I'm a
-
sinful man you you got to go and so so he uses the phrase Lord and he uses he
-
uses a recognition of who he is and who Jesus is and so there's this
-
recognition of God moment and then look what happens next verse 9 for he and
-
all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken and so
-
were James and John the son's disability Simon's partners then Jesus said to them
-
don't be afraid from now on you will fish for people so they pulled up their
-
boats up on shore left everything and followed him if you turn over to mark
Mark 1 chapter mention
-
chapter 1 it's the same story found in verse 16 it says as Jesus walked beside
-
the Sea of Galilee he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting and edded to the
-
lake for they were fishermen come what's that next word follow me so so in this
-
one we know from the other story there's recognition of God that takes place and
-
then Jesus tells him and gives him an invitation after that in this story what
-
we get is very clear you have this language of come which is an invitation
-
right come follow me right and so so the idea is come to me which if we go back
-
to last week the moment when you give your life to Jesus is you going I am
-
coming to you to be my Savior and at some point like we were talking about last
-
week there's a point when you step in and go hey I'm giving you my life as Lord
-
you need control of my life and what happens in this moment is you have
-
recognition of God but then you have an instant invitation into the life of
-
discipleship where Jesus goes come follow me now to us there's significance
-
around this when you put it in the context of the original story in the
-
original culture because in that culture you would have a rabbi a teacher and
-
that rabbi wouldn't just go up to anybody and say hey come follow me in
-
fact you couldn't choose your rabbi the rabbi had to choose you and so in this
-
context Jesus is coming to these fishermen that's already mind-blowing
-
because they're not students of religion he comes to them and he says come it's
-
an invitation follow me it's an invitation to be a disciple it's an
-
invitation into the life of a disciple it's an invitation to apprentice under
-
Jesus and so what you have in this moment is you have an invitation this
-
place now if I gave you an invitation today to the Super Bowl party I'm going
-
to right so I handed every single one of you an invitation and said you got to
-
come to the Super Bowl party who has the power of choice you do right you have
-
the power of choice I invited you but whether you say yes or no that's
-
entirely up to you this is how the life of discipleship works there is a
-
commitment that has to come from you and can only come from you only you last
-
week can go God I give you my life or at some point in your life there's only
-
you that can go I need you to be my savior right when it comes to the life
-
of discipleship only you only you can be the one to accept and go I am going to
-
commit to follow Jesus with my life I'm going to commit to be a disciple of
-
Jesus now here here's the problem around church world with this right like we
-
start talking about this life of discipleship depending on how long you've
-
been around church depending on what your background is here's what it often
-
looks like okay you want to be a disciple you got to go take this class right go
-
take this class so 101 on religion take 202 oh one on who Jesus is 301 on
-
creation right and all of a sudden you go and you just start learning all these
-
classes right and at some point the thought process is you get done with
-
all this study you get to the end and tada you're a disciple no you're just
-
really smart you'll learn the whole bunch of stuff the idea of being a
-
disciple of Jesus is that it was actually it's in your life it's not how much you
-
know it's how much you live and so the idea of being a disciple is that that
-
you in those days that if you suggest to Jesus you were gonna follow Jesus
-
closely enough that the very dust from his feet would kick up and you would get
-
the dust of the rabbi the dust of the person that you were following would
-
cover you you were that closely following this person the idea is this
-
that even in the model that Jesus gave it goes from person to person it was an
-
invitation to personally follow another person why because the intent was it was
-
always transferred your learning would be done from person to person and
-
somewhere along the way we eliminated relationship and we went to just take
-
these courses and and when you look at this notice notice what else happens
-
because you can get stuck right I took the courses right therefore I am notice
-
what the point of being a disciple was verse 17 come follow me Jesus said and
-
I will send you out to fish for people so there's a come follow me and I will
-
send so from the very get-go the life of discipleship the the intent of
-
discipleship is this you have those who are committing to there they're saying
-
yes I will follow you because I need to learn and I need to belong you think
-
about it in Jesus's context he's going come follow me and I'll teach you but he
-
also put them what in a group of people the idea of being in a group of people
-
is so central to your learning that's why last week when we were talking about
-
it that that is so central that life groups that if you're in a life group
-
that you're talking about this critical journey that you're identifying your
-
home base why because if I can identify my home base I can take ownership of my
-
maturing you realize it's nobody else's responsibility but yours to grow to be
-
like Jesus right too many times people like I left that church they weren't
-
doing this this this this this I left that church they weren't giving me what
-
I needed I left that shirt no no no hang on the way this was intended is that you
-
would spend time in a posture of learning in a commitment to learn and how is that
-
learning from another person but the onus is on you to go I need that right and
-
then and then what happens you learn you go through this learning process of the
-
life of discipleship you belong and then what happens you move outward what you
-
have been given you give away and that's what Jesus intended from the very
-
start what you have been given you will give away so much so that he gets to the
-
end of it right before he's gone to the cross he's about to ascend to heaven so
-
the resurrected Jesus talking to his disciples what does he tell them I need
-
you to go and make what make disciples go and help people apprentice to Jesus
-
go and help people live a life of discipleship go and help them become
-
disciples how do you do that teach them to observe everything I commanded you
-
to do and so here's what's fascinating right you look at the early church Acts
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
chapter 2 and verse 42 Acts chapter 2 the early church gets together and it says
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
they the early church devoted devoted themselves to the apostles teaching to
-
the fellowship to the breaking of bread and to prayer they devoted themselves
-
what was the commitment of the disciples to take what they've been given and give
-
it away how do we know they did that because now there's a whole group of
-
people and what are they doing they are devoting themselves to what the
-
apostles teaching they're devoting themselves to following them now that
-
that idea of devoted is that they were showing up we also know from this passage
-
they showed up daily in homes together why because they were so committed I
-
would say this about you that if you're not in a life group and you're not
-
connected to another group like a Bible study or something within women's and
-
men's ministry I would encourage you to do this get coffee with somebody this
-
week and sit with them and talk about this it has to be transferred from person
-
to person Paul understood this so much that when Paul's writing to the church
-
here's what he says 1 Corinthians 11 verse 1 follow my example so Paul's
-
going follow my example as I follow the example of Christ follow my example Paul's
-
going I'm giving it away there's that word follow again it's an invitation into
-
you and so here's here's a kind of a caution in this whole stage to home base
-
that if you're going I need to learn I need to follow somebody right can I
-
just give you a caution make sure the person that you choose to follow looks
-
like Jesus make sure that the person you follow is actually following Jesus we
-
we talked about this thought about this and and what I would love to do is just
-
give you a picture of what this looks like there's a gift to our church and
-
his name is pastor Bob and often you hear Bob and I got a joke coming I don't
-
have a joke coming Bob is an absolute gift to my life and to this church when
-
you talk about this of pouring your life into somebody else of taking what you
-
have been given by Jesus and in relationship giving it away to somebody
-
else there is no one else that has been more influential in my life of what
-
discipleship looks like than our very own pastor Bob and so what I would love
-
you to do both here part collective online lose your minds for pastor Bob and
-
Abe this morning please gentlemen good morning how are we you're so nice to me
-
you can pay me later it's fine Abe you doing okay singing and speaking how is
-
my little hyped up I've had a okay too much Celsius so I'm trying to bring it
-
back down control my breath yeah so here's where I love to start Bob for you
-
I've watched this pattern in your life of giving away but that had to start
-
somewhere for you there had to be a moment where you were invited to come
-
follow and so what did that look like for me I came to Christ I became a
-
Christian on my 18th birthday so it's easy to remember but the couple that led
-
me to Christ moved within the month after I accepted Christ so they plugged me
-
into a church but I didn't know anybody I met like a couple people but I would
-
sit in the back row and before the pastor would say amen I was out you know
-
and I was living a lifestyle very contrary to what God would want I was
-
partying on the weekends and doing all that stuff and then I'd go to church on
-
Sunday and do all that and this was up in Cleveland and I was a mailman
-
and there was a guy on my route that attended this church and I remember the
-
time he's an older guy but he came out one Saturday goes if you ever needed
-
anything here's my business card and I'm like yeah I'll get right on it you know
-
so put it away and then continue to live a wild lifestyle while I was saying I
-
was a Christian and so one night I was in downtown Cleveland on a Friday night
-
and I thought you know what I know if I die right now I'd go to heaven so I'm
-
gonna kill myself on the way home so I thought I'll get the car up to a hundred
-
and hit a pole and I thought well the people that I was partying with would
-
be like this is gonna happen sooner or later and my Christian the couple of
-
people that knew me at church would be like always in a better place so I got
-
the car up to a hundred I was on the freeway and all sudden I just started
-
crying so I pulled the car over and I'm parked on the side of the road and I'm
-
sitting there and all sudden the Holy Spirit just laid down my heart that
-
business card in your pocket you got to call this guy so I didn't have cell
-
phones back then so I went to the nearest phone booth and I called was that
-
phone booth out of curiosity so funny so it was like two in the morning and I
-
call this and he's an attorney for LTB steals season business like but I call
-
him up I go hey I don't know if you remember me from church who's no I
-
remember you I go well I am a Christian but I'm not living this out and I said
-
I can't do this anymore live in two lives and he said well come on over which I
-
think it's funny now that he had me drive 20 minutes drunk but I got to his
-
house and his wife got up they made me coffee and they said so do you really
-
want to follow Christ I said well this was gonna be my last night so he said
-
well I will need you twice a week he said my wife will make you dinner but he
-
said we're gonna do Bible study together we're gonna do life together we're gonna
-
walk this out and so he took me under his wing and it was two years of intense
-
twice a week Bible studies with him which is amazing yeah he made me
-
memorize verses and because he's very structured if I did one word wrong he'd
-
make me write it 50 times and he told me and I go well you got the right idea he
-
goes well Satan tried to put scripture to and I'm okay well I'll fix it which
-
was fun if you know Bob and know his personality that's perfect for you
-
that's that's what you needed so from that moment what did it what did it look
-
like and so so you spent time with him kind of what what happened after that
-
what that looked like he would challenge me on different things which was
-
really good and at the time I could never be in front of people at all so I'm
-
in one time he said you're gonna meet me downtown Cleveland at this one office
-
building and I said yeah I'll be down there so I go down and it was a crowd as
-
big as this if not bigger and he said I want you to give your testimony to these
-
people and I remember just freaking out but he would challenge me in different
-
areas of my walk to make me grow and I was telling in the last service it was
-
funny to meet John and I went to a conference in Cortal Lane a couple years
-
ago and we're sitting there and people would ask questions to the main speaker
-
and the one guy stood up and he introduced himself said I'm so-and-so
-
and I'm part of the Cleveland Businessmen's Association blah blah blah and I'm
-
like what do you think and I didn't say anything to John I go up to the guy after
-
I go hey you're from Cleveland do you know Don Hall he goes Don Hall changed my
-
life I'm not gonna mind too you know it was crazy yeah I love that sometimes the
-
availability that God asks of you is 2 a.m. with a drunk guy on the phone but
-
okay so so within that then obviously we're years and years from that how do
-
you end up sitting with Abe today what what's that was it was funny you know
-
when God lays someone on your heart so the worship team was back at that sound
-
booth one day and I walked by and it's like I say something to him so talking
-
to Caleb and the rest of my said hey I guess I gotta talk to him I said Abe I'm
-
Bob Bobo I'm one of the pastors here and kind of what the guy threw out to me so
-
I'm like if you ever need anything you just give me a call I said those guys
-
have my number so Abe what in the world made you call Bob so I heard Bob was
-
really struggling I'm kidding I'm kidding well it took three months but what
-
really made me reach out to Bob was I was trying to try to connect with other
-
people and the conversation we had back there in front of that sound booth some
-
of the things that Bob was sharing with me that he was able to go through and
-
get past sounded a little similar to some of the things that I was struggling
-
with in that moment so I got to a point where I was just I can't do this just
-
like you how you said like I can't keep living this double life like something's
-
got to give and just something about those muscles and that smile really
-
really drew me towards them and so so what's it been like so you you call him
-
and then what what is that stepping into the life of the disciple what does that
-
look like with Bob so you hear discipleship and you want to just
-
immediately go to okay like we're gonna just meet up once a week and we're gonna
-
go over some scriptures and good luck see you next week like no Bob and Sherry
-
really opened up their home opened up their arms and made me feel like family
-
and that's that's really what changed my mind about this whole discipleship
-
process was it's not you're just you're not just teaching somebody how to how to
-
live life but you're teaching them how to walk with Christ you're bringing them
-
into your home I mean we spent Thanksgiving Christmas together so we
-
really developed a relationship just outside of discipleship and it's it's
-
been a blessing when you hear Paul in the Bible talk to Timothy or Titus he
-
always says my son in the faith and so really is and we sit we talk about family
-
here but I think when you get in that kind of relationship it's not just a
-
Bible said we really are family so much so that do you know what he did this is
-
really bad we don't need to go there it's when the forge came out it's a movie
-
about discipleship I had to miss one of our meetings and I said hey here's ten
-
dollars you need to go see the forge we're gonna talk about it next week when
-
we get together so he comes the next week and we talked about it and I'm
-
probably not supposed to say this but he cried at the movie and he told me you
-
know and all this well then that's like six months ago and he tells me last
-
month he goes by the way I got the movie for free and I just kept the ten
-
dollars it's like one of my own biological kids right
-
oh man I also understand that the term poppa Bob is is part of it which again
-
speaks to this is more than just imparting knowledge right you are
-
helping somebody navigate how to look and live and love like Jesus and it's
-
got to come from you and so I love within your guys's journey that there there is
-
the Christmas there is the Thanksgiving there is the the walking along the
-
moments to make you family and so Abe on your side what what are some things
-
you've enjoyed what maybe has surprised you in this journey yeah before I answer
-
that question I do call him Papa Bob okay but he he's got a nickname for me
-
you want me to tell him he calls the fear
-
I call him baby him he calls me baby him and I blush every single time no but
-
one of my favorite moments is really just going to his house having dinner and
-
we we go over this book called follow and we're spending three hours at your
-
house and maybe 30 minutes in that follow so we're having conversations just
-
about life he's challenging me spiritually challenging me just as a man
-
but I want to bring up one of the experiences if that's okay sure go for
-
yeah so my favorite moment and we joke about this all the time but it was the
-
week on forgiveness and the idea of this experience is we take a sheet of paper
-
and we write we write down a name of somebody that we have to forgive and I'm
-
laughing because it's just the jokes that come with this but I wrote down my
-
dad's name and just all the things that I was forgiving him for and what we did
-
is we went outside Bob started a fire and we threw the paper in the fire and we
-
prayed as that paper burned away but I cannot as much as I make fun of that
-
experience I can honestly say that that really impacted me a lot. The whole time we're doing this is the stupidest thing I've ever done. I go write down those things and he goes this is so dumb and I go just write all this down and I go and say it out loud to me so then we go outside tomorrow and he goes it couldn't get any
-
stupider than this and then I look while he's praying and the tears are coming down his eyes I'm like got him and by the way I do I do make him study so I'm trying to throw him off
-
because he does have to memorize stuff so I want to see because I gave you a different
-
verse last service do first John 5 11 through 13. Can I phone a friend? No alright.
-
That's the that's the testimony one it's this is the testimony God has given us
-
eternal life in this life is in his son whoever has the son has life whoever does
-
not have the son of God does not have life I write these things to you who
-
believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know you have eternal life
-
let's go well done I memorized it because I don't want to write it 50 times
-
maybe maybe just kind of wrap this up with this with somebody here who goes
-
ham I'm feeling like I haven't experienced the life of discipleship or I know there's more to this Jesus thing I know there's a step forward for me
-
any encouragement you have for them what it to take that step and and enter in oh
-
yeah absolutely if you are really wanting to take your walk with Jesus
-
seriously partner with somebody the best decision that I have ever made was
-
recognizing that I can't do this by myself I've tried but really just taking
-
advantage of the people that are around you and the love that people want to pour
-
into you it's truly life-changing I mean the Bible says we're not supposed to do
-
life alone even back to Genesis God was like everything is good and then he
-
looks at man and was like it is not good for man to be alone so if you don't have
-
a partner find a partner not romantically like just somebody who can walk
-
alongside you in Christ and then the romance that that'll come but
-
anyway sometimes a bromance apparently so I would say I would say this church
-
that when it comes to stage two as a home base in this life of discipleship
-
one of the catalysts to move you forward is that your isolation it's when you
-
recognize I wasn't meant to do this life alone I don't have what I need to
-
follow Jesus and I need someone to be a guide and so isolation is actually a
-
catalyst to get you to move from recognition of God into hey I need
-
someone to walk with me and so I would just say for you that if that's you
-
where you're going there's a sense of belonging and learning that I'm lacking
-
in my life I don't feel like I've ever had a discipleship experience where
-
someone has walked me through the foundations of the faith and so my
-
foundation feels that scaffolding feet doesn't feel like it's in place then I
-
would just encourage you use that isolation to be a catalyst to to say hey
-
I'm gonna I'm gonna step out and go I need someone to to walk with me so would
-
you do this would you say thank you to these two for me part of part of this
-
collection is that hopefully what you discover here is my home base and here
-
is how I take ownership of my growth that requires opportunities to step
-
forward and step into faith so just like last week if you don't have
-
recognition of God if you need Jesus a Savior if there's a moment where you
-
need to go I got to give him my whole life like that was a that was a moment
-
to respond we want to do that all the way through this collection because
-
every single one of us if you are human you have a moment to take ownership of
-
your maturity with God and so we want to provide those all along the way and so
-
with that if you're in the room and you go hey I I remember you're like Bob
-
you're like I can remember someone walking with me I can remember the
-
foundations of the faith that scaffolding being put in place that life of
-
discipleship the learning and the belonging I can remember what that was
-
like then then you have something to give so just like Jesus goes hey come
-
follow me you've had an opportunity to follow and now he's gone hey I'm sending
-
you you need to give away to be sent is to give away what you have been given
-
and so if you are in the room and you go or across the screen or at part
-
collective this morning and you go hey I've had a moment with Jesus where I
-
have received and I have lived this life of what it means to become a
-
disciple I've been under an apprenticeship to Jesus with someone
-
and maybe that was a group maybe that was one-on-one but you go I know I've
-
experienced that and my scaffolding feels secure than what I'm gonna ask of you
-
what we're gonna ask of you is would you be willing to go hey I'll give that away
-
but there's others of you that are here and you're going and by the way one of
-
the things with this whole collection there is no shame for the stage you're
-
at this is not a shame thing this is just a realization of hey this is where
-
I'm at my spiritual journey and I need help I need to grow I need to step
-
forward and so if you're here and you go I don't think I've ever had somebody
-
walk with me I don't think I've ever experienced this life of discipleship I
-
don't think my foundation is where it needs to be then today your commitment
-
is I would like somebody to walk with me and so here's how we're gonna do this
-
if you are able and you have a phone okay so if you're in the room and you have
-
a phone and you are able okay so say it with me if I have a phone and I am able
-
okay online if I have a phone and I am able okay park collective if you have a
-
phone and you are able we would like for you to do this I'm gonna go a little
-
further than that as a church family both here Baghdad, Paldon, Park Collective,
-
online we need you to do this okay you ready got your phone out we're gonna do
-
it right now okay there's like four of you moving you all have phones I know it
-
take your phone out you're gonna see a QR code come up on screen I need you to
-
scan that QR code I'm not even gonna help you you ready hit your camera button
-
zoom in a link pops up don't take a picture it won't work if you take a
-
picture just saying click the link it'll take you to a survey I need you to
-
fill out the survey right here right now this is not a later thing you know why
-
there's a football game right and you're gonna forget you're gonna eat too much
-
food and you'll be in a food coma I know it but you need to fill out the
-
questionnaire right now it's that important so if you have a phone and you
-
are able you should be filling out a questionnaire on your phone right now and
-
the lights aren't that bright I can still see you okay if you have a phone and
-
you're able you're doing it if you don't have a phone and or you are not able
-
raise your hand we'll get you a paper copy keep your hand up it'll get to you
-
if you get a paper copy please fill it out and turn it in before you leave those
-
of you online there should be a link that you can get to from YouTube this
-
morning the link should be posted you can get to it there because obviously your
-
phone and your screen your phone may be your screen that's a little tricky so
-
you can get to the link there on on YouTube this morning back that paul then
-
you can use the QR use your phone same with Park Collective and we're just gonna
-
give you time the way God designed this you guys is that we walk alongside each
-
other the way that God made us to form spiritually is that we would have
-
somebody to disciple us somebody to help us apprentice under Jesus somebody to
-
help us become more like Jesus so I'm gonna give you another 30 seconds can
-
you imagine a church where the people that have received the privilege of
-
knowing how to walk with Jesus okay it's a privilege that the people who know how
-
to walk with Jesus and have been walking with Jesus turn around and go I'll
-
give it away and they turn around and there's a group of people that go hey I
-
don't know what it looks like to walk with Jesus yet but I really want to walk
-
with him can you imagine the power of a church where people everybody in the
-
family goes I know how to walk with Jesus and then they in turn turn around
-
start giving it away that's how you change the world that's how you change
-
communities that's how you change and we have the privilege to do that but it
-
begins with you making a commitment to go what I have I will give away and
-
somebody else going what I don't have I'm asking for it's a beautiful moment
-
okay you got it you look like you're all done everybody's looking okay we have a
-
privilege in here if you remember this stage life of disciple life of
-
discipleship what it means to be a disciple it's about learning and
-
belonging you know what happens in here every week when we sing we belong
-
because we're all singing the same thing right we're all worshiping the same
-
God and so in the room what happens in worship is there's a sense of belonging
-
this standing shoulder to shoulder you begin to worship God together and it
-
creates a sense of belonging that we're created for for all of eternity and
-
then in the midst of that in the midst of that there's some of you that have been
-
worshiping for a long time there's some of you that are experts when it comes to
-
worship and song and so what happens is you get to be a part of helping somebody
-
else learn right somebody else who goes I don't know how to do this karaoke thing
-
and they get to look at you and they get to see how you worship and they learn
-
from you it's this beautiful moment that what we're talking about in the life of
-
discipleship gets to happen live in the room so if you would would you stand
-
where you are and here's what we're gonna do we're gonna help people belong
-
because you don't know who's next to you who just needs to belong today you can
-
stand up we're gonna we're gonna sing and then you're gonna help people learn
-
how to worship because you have been given the gift of worshiping God I don't
-
know about you but last week when people came down for a moment with the Holy
-
Spirit and God is saving people I don't know if you go back to when Jesus saved
-
you the only thing I have when I focus on the person of Jesus and what he has
-
saved me from is a hallelujah that's all I got is just thank you all I got is a
-
hallelujah and so if you would would you worship together this morning
