  1. Welcome to Transformation Church Podcast, where we represent God to

  2. the lost and found for transformation in Christ. We're so

  3. glad you're here and wherever you're listening from, we believe

  4. God will transform your life. Do Today's message we.

  5. Are is dangerous.

  6. I just got my Bible and I got two pages

  7. of notes, So it's about to get serious out here,

  8. all right, some of y'all I talk to people sometimes

  9. I'm gonna give away one of my secrets. People think

  10. I'd be memorizing my whole sermon, which I do for

  11. the most part, but I actually have a cheat code.

  12. My notes are just taped on the inside of my Bible.

  13. So some of y'all are like, y'all just are like wow.

  14. But we have been in a series called Death to Distraction.

  15. Everybody say Death to Distraction. Pastor Michael has been leading

  16. us through this and we've been studying the story of Samson,

  17. one of the strongest men to ever live, that got

  18. played by Delilah. She played that man like a fiddle.

  19. This very disappointing, very tragic. He gave away his secrets,

  20. cut his hair, lost all his strength. But we've been

  21. examining this story as a picture of what happens when

  22. we lose focus. Our word of the year this year

  23. is focused. Somebody say focus. We've been talking about how

  24. do we keep the faith to stay focused on what

  25. God has asked us to do? And this year I'm

  26. very excited because we have a scripture of the year.

  27. It is Hebrews twelve, Hebrews Chapter twelve. And then now

  28. let me pause for a second because I got some

  29. beef of y'all in this room. I'm gonna step over. See,

  30. this is when I get serious. I'm about to step over.

  31. When I preach a series, you know, the Word of God.

  32. I had a.

  33. Scripture every week and I was like, we're gonna read

  34. it aloud together, and y'all played me so hard we

  35. could not make it one week through that Pastor Michael, He's.

  36. Like, we're gonna do a scripture the year. He's like,

  37. what you think, man, I think we're gonna have everybody

  38. read it together.

  39. And I literally said, mane, it's gonna be tough because

  40. when I tried to do it, they didn't do it,

  41. and then y'all gonna get up here and nail it

  42. every single week.

  43. I felt personally disrespected.

  44. Anyways, So I'm very insecure to read the scripture together

  45. because I'm worried y'all gonna leave me up here by myself.

  46. But we're gonna try it. We're gonna read this scripture together.

  47. Can y'all throw it up there for me? Hebrews twelve.

  48. We're gonna read this together. As a matter of fact,

  49. could you stand for the reading of God's word? Come on,

  50. we're gonna stand for the reading of God. Well, I

  51. got forty three minutes and fifty two seconds of it,

  52. so we're gonna be all right.

  53. All right, here we go.

  54. We're gonna start, and I'm gonna be host with you.

  55. I'm gonna go whether you go with me or not.

  56. So because i'm a little insecure up here, here we go.

  57. One, two three.

  58. Therefore, since we are surrounding by such a huge crowd

  59. of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip

  60. off every weight you're doing so great that slows us down,

  61. especially the sin that so easily trips us up, and

  62. let us run with endurance the race.

  63. God has set before us. Take any breath, We're almost there.

  64. We do this by keeping our eyes Parenthescus on Jesus,

  65. the champion who initiates and perfects our faith because of

  66. the joy awaiting him. He endured the cross disregarding its shame.

  67. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside

  68. God's throne. Give yourself a round of applause. You did

  69. so well. You can sit down. You can sit down.

  70. I just realized I don't like it. You guys did great.

  71. It was more reflection to me than it was you.

  72. But this has been our anchor scripture.

  73. If we are gonna stay focused, we do that by

  74. fixing our eyes on Jesus, focusing on him. I'm excited

  75. today we're gonna go a little bit down that trail

  76. of how we can stay focused on Jesus. So, if

  77. you got your Bibles, I need you to turn to

  78. Matthew chapter twenty eight. Matthew chapter twenty eight. If you

  79. got a real Bible, shout out. You get more points

  80. in Heaven for that. It's in Leviticus. Now y'all read Leviticus.

  81. But it's in there. I promise you're like, I don't

  82. know because I've never read it. I know that's why

  83. it works. Okay, Matthew chapter twenty eight. We're gonna read

  84. six verses is what the Bible says. Now, after the Sabbath,

  85. as it began to dawn, toward the first day of

  86. the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to

  87. the tomb, and behold, there was a severe earthquake, for

  88. the Angel of the Lord had descended from heaven. It

  89. came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.

  90. And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothes as

  91. white as snow. The guard shook from fear and became

  92. like a dead man. And the Angel said to the woman,

  93. do not be afraid, for I know you are looking

  94. for Jesus, who was crucified.

  95. Now, this next.

  96. Part is some of the most powerful four words in

  97. the whole Bible. If you was churchy, churchy, you would

  98. take off sprinting right at.

  99. These four words. I don't even know. Zach ain't even

  100. back there. But this is the part where the organ

  101. would be going crazy.

  102. I never get an organ, man. I think it's because

  103. I'm half white. Anyways, that's a joke too far. Calm down,

  104. I'm okay, Jesus, but seriously, never had the organ. Anyways,

  105. He's not here, for he has risen, just as he

  106. said the titles. You see you felt that if that

  107. had the organ it would have been crazy.

  108. It's all right, though, don't come running now. Nope, No,

  109. I'm just kidding.

  110. My title in my sermon today, if you're taking notes,

  111. write this down, focused and fearless, Focused and fearless. I'm

  112. focused and I'm fearless. Let's pray, Lord God, we love you,

  113. thank you so much for who you are, and speak

  114. this morning and Jesus.

  115. Then we pray. And everybody said amen. Okay.

  116. I don't know about you, but my experience with the

  117. word focus, I have a certain connotation and feeling that

  118. happens when I hear the word focus. Now I'm gonna

  119. use this as an illustration. I didn't know if I

  120. was gonna use it, but I'm gonna use it.

  121. I said this. I have four kiddos.

  122. Rlow Phoenix is about to turn six, Luna Rows is four,

  123. about to turn five, Jade October and Blue Sunday.

  124. Now, all of our kids are different.

  125. As parents know, you can't copy and paste your parenting,

  126. as much as that would make it way more easier.

  127. You have to become four different people to these four

  128. different humans, and it's extremely difficult.

  129. But I am.

  130. Naturally competitive and just sometimes a lot. I just scream

  131. a lot of my house. Somebody are like, man, you

  132. wild up there. I'm just this wild all the time.

  133. And my son Arlo Phoenix started playing soccer this last year.

  134. Now I have I had to like lay all my

  135. expectations at the altar when I had children, because I

  136. knew I don't know if my kids are gonna be

  137. into sports. Abby God bless her, does not have a

  138. competitive bone in her body. She's like, it's just, you know,

  139. it's just for fun. I'm like, it's not fun when

  140. you're losing. You know, people say just for fun? Are

  141. people who lose.

  142. All the time.

  143. That's why you gotta revert to that, because you lose,

  144. you don't have another option.

  145. So like, I'm just gonna have fun.

  146. It's like, okay, herein lies my issue right there. Y'all

  147. can see winners don't say just for fun.

  148. Okay, I'm done anyways.

  149. Okay, So I'm trying to talk to Arlow. Arlow is

  150. a sweet, gentle spirit, and so I'm trying to temper

  151. my like intensity with like all right, buddy, we're gonna

  152. go out there.

  153. You know, we're gonna have fun.

  154. We're gonna do our best, We're gonna win, We're gonna,

  155. We're gonna And so I I think my wife was

  156. taking this video. I'm about to show you a video

  157. that I'm not necessarily proud of. Okay, I'm not embarrassed

  158. by it, but you know it's just gonna work great

  159. for this arm.

  160. So I want you to show you. This is Arlow

  161. playing soccer.

  162. I think this is his first game in true Metcalf fashion,

  163. called up eighty six of our friends, and so the

  164. sideline was packed for a four year old soccer game.

  165. And I want you to observe, just hopefully a non

  166. traumatic memory for my son. Can y'all play the video

  167. of Arlow playing soccer real quick?

  168. Oh Jesus, I just got stressed watching that. He ran

  169. the complete wrong way. He just sprinted. I don't know.

  170. He literally the balls right here and he just.

  171. Turns around and it's like I'm going the other way.

  172. You can't hear in the video, but at the end

  173. of the video, I didn't realize that.

  174. Literally last night, I'm up, I'm looking through.

  175. My phone for another picture, and at the end of

  176. that video, I'm screaming.

  177. Focus Bay, attention, I'm screaming because he doesn't know which

  178. way he's going. And I realized.

  179. Many of our context and connotation of focus is a

  180. screaming correction because you messed it up.

  181. You don't register it this way initially.

  182. But if I say, hey, you need to focus, the

  183. immediate thing you feel is, oh, shoot, okay. Let me

  184. not veer off the road, let me not mess this

  185. moment up. Let me not screw up my marriage, let

  186. me not blow all the money, let me not step

  187. out of place. I don't want to miss God, Oh gosh,

  188. I need to focus. And I'm afraid some of us,

  189. if we are not careful, you will not realize that

  190. the motivation for you becoming so focused.

  191. May not be rooted in the right thing.

  192. For many of us, when you hear the word focus,

  193. there's a there's a fear that comes up, There's an

  194. intensity that comes up. There's a voice you hear. Maybe

  195. it's a parent, maybe it's a coach, maybe it's someone

  196. that spoke to you, that went before you.

  197. But there's something that happens.

  198. And I have a question for us this morning, and

  199. it is this, what is your focus being fueled by?

  200. What is fueling your focus, many of us, if we're honest,

  201. because of your first experience, because.

  202. Of your connotation.

  203. The truth is it is fear that is fueling your focus,

  204. Fear that you don't mess up the marriage.

  205. So you got to pay attention. You need to focus because.

  206. If you don't focus, you're not gonna get the right grades.

  207. And if you don't get the right grades, then you're

  208. not going to get into the school.

  209. And if you don't get into the school, then.

  210. You'll be just like everybody else in your family, and

  211. you're the only hope they got. So you better focus.

  212. You better focus. Yeah, you're free now from the addiction,

  213. but just in one moment, you could mess it all

  214. up and ruin all those years of soberness and fall

  215. back into the pattern that your whole family has falling.

  216. So you better focus, You better pay attention.

  217. And if we're not careful, we will do the right

  218. thing with the wrong motive, which ends up being the

  219. wrong thing. And there are many of us that I

  220. want you to explore for a moment. How do you

  221. feel when there's a command given to focus? What is

  222. the intensity behind this focus? Why does it seem like

  223. there's so much pressure and so much weight, and I

  224. don't want to mess it up.

  225. And here's the truth.

  226. Many of us, our focus is being fueled by the

  227. fear of failing. I don't want to end up like them.

  228. I don't want to mess it up. I don't want

  229. to make a mistake. I don't want to miss my

  230. moment with God. And I think it's important that we

  231. evaluate this because the truth is, many of us we

  232. have the wrong root of our focus.

  233. It's just because we.

  234. Don't want to disappoint God. We don't want God to

  235. be mad at us. So we're just gonna focus. And

  236. I gotta make sure I read my Bible, and I

  237. gotta make sure that I go to church, and I

  238. gotta make sure. And I'm just questioning, is focus supposed.

  239. To feel like that?

  240. Did Jesus die on the cross? Be death, hell and

  241. the grave, so that when you come into his house

  242. and he says, hey, I want you to focus, you

  243. feel condemned, small and shrunk, and you feel so afraid,

  244. and your world slowly, slowly becomes smaller. You see, you

  245. may not realize this, but focus that is fueled by

  246. fear always makes your world smaller. This is what fear does.

  247. Fear will always make your world smaller. It goes from man,

  248. look how beautiful this day is, to oh gosh, I'm

  249. behind on that billing. Oh gosh, what if I don't

  250. pay the bill? And oh gosh, what if we get

  251. thrown out? And then what I feel if I make

  252. a mistake? And to where are my kids gonna go?

  253. And then where's our family gonna go? And where are

  254. we gonna live? And slowly, but surely, fear always brings

  255. your world to be smaller. You woke up excited for

  256. the day, and then you saw you realize, man, I

  257. still haven't heard from that friend that said they would

  258. be there for me. And it goes from a beautiful

  259. day to I have lots of friends, to because one

  260. friend didn't text you back. Now you're questioning, does anybody

  261. like me? Is anybody there for me?

  262. Am? I gonna be a forever? Fear will always make

  263. your focus smaller.

  264. And I want to submit to you today that it's

  265. important that you understand that your focus.

  266. Should be fueled by faith. Your focus.

  267. Jesus came into this earth so that your focus could

  268. be fueled by faith. If you're taking notes, I want

  269. you to write this point down because this is a

  270. key point in my message, and it is this, Faith

  271. always grows in the direction of your focus. Faith always

  272. grows in the direction of your focus.

  273. This works both ways.

  274. So some of you you realize that your faith in

  275. things going wrong is going to grow because you always

  276. focus on everything going wrong, everything beautiful in your life.

  277. But there's one situation that hasn't worked out how you

  278. wanted to. And slowly but surely, you walk yourself into

  279. believing no one's ever gonna be there for me, and

  280. I'll never have friends, and I'll never have people who

  281. care and see me because you have focused on it

  282. so much, and now your faith has grown in that direction.

  283. You know.

  284. The story in the Bible is the story of Jesus Resurrection,

  285. and usually we say this part of the Bible for

  286. April around Easter, you know, But it's crazy.

  287. The Bible works all times of the years.

  288. I don't know if you know that, but you can

  289. read the Christmas story in July and it's still got power.

  290. Hello, somebody, But.

  291. I love this story because there's an example that happens

  292. where they run up to look for the thing where

  293. they thought Jesus would be laying. They go looking and

  294. focusing on where they thought the dead thing would be.

  295. And one of the clear instructured instructions that the Angel

  296. gives is, do not be afraid. I know you're looking

  297. here for Jesus. I know you're focusing on where he

  298. thought it would be. I know you're looking for the

  299. place where you thought it would be.

  300. But here is what I have realized.

  301. Fear will always have you focusing on what is dead

  302. instead of what is alive. Fear will always have you

  303. focusing on what is dead so that you will miss

  304. what is actually alive. These people come running to the

  305. grave and they're expecting to see a dead Jesus.

  306. They're expecting to see it gone.

  307. And what the Angel has to tell them is, hey,

  308. do not walk in fear.

  309. Do not be afraid. I know you were looking where.

  310. You thought it was gonna be, but there's a focus

  311. that comes because there's an expectation you should have. Now.

  312. I just want to submit today that if.

  313. You have been listening to the series, and the more

  314. you hear focus, the heavier you become. I would submit

  315. that Jesus invites us into a different way to focus.

  316. Jesus says in the scriptures are you tired? Are you

  317. worn out?

  318. One translation is tired of religion? Come with me, get

  319. away with me. Watch how I do it. And the

  320. promise at the end of the scripture is, I will

  321. give you rest for your soul.

  322. Not rest like you go to sleep.

  323. Not rest like you you took some melotonin gummies and

  324. you went to sleep.

  325. No, no, no, not that kind of rest.

  326. Rest in your soul, the place that the anxiety lives,

  327. the place that you're worried about, the place where those.

  328. Children keep you up and night.

  329. He says, I will give you rest for your soul.

  330. Now read scripture is like this, and I have a

  331. specific bucket for things like this, and it's this. There

  332. are things that are ultimately true but sometimes don't feel

  333. functionally true.

  334. Let me explain it to you.

  335. There is an amazing worship song that is a really,

  336. really good song I love and please hear me. I'm

  337. not talking against this worship song. I'm just inviting you

  338. to what happens when I'm lifting my hands singing to Jesus.

  339. There's a song we sing that says, He's never gonna

  340. let He's never gonna let me down.

  341. You know, I know the vocals are right there. But

  342. y'all know the song.

  343. Come on now, I'm not gonna sing no more of it,

  344. so you're either gonna be lost or y'all know the

  345. song I'm talking about. If you don't know it, google it.

  346. Amazing song. And sometimes I'll be singing it like he

  347. You're never gonna let me down except for that one

  348. time I didn't get that job I want it, Yo,

  349. never gonna let You're never gonna let me down, except

  350. for all the sickness and stuff that I be going through, YO.

  351. Never gonna let.

  352. I mean if I the only wedd Sometimes feel like yes,

  353. ultimately when I die and I'm looking at you eye

  354. to eye and I don't have to suffer anymore, and

  355. you'll wipe every tear from my eye like it says

  356. or other Oh.

  357. Yes, you never let me down.

  358. But there's sometimes God, it's not all the time great song,

  359. And sometimes I.

  360. Be feeling let down.

  361. I hear Jesus saying, hey, listen, are you tired? My

  362. burden is easy and my yoke is like and I

  363. been hearing.

  364. Jesus talking like, Okay, I hear what you're saying, But

  365. it don't always feel like that.

  366. Jesus it doesn't always feel like what you're saying is true.

  367. It doesn't always.

  368. Feel like trying to raise these kids to know you

  369. and follow you and not give them trying man not

  370. scream at them because that's the easiest thing to get

  371. they attention. I'm really trying, But sometime it doesn't feel

  372. that way.

  373. I know you said your burden is.

  374. Easy, but I'm out here and I've been trying to

  375. apply for jobs and nobody's hiring me, and they keep

  376. saying overqualified and God, don't even go to school.

  377. I know they lying that just mean they don't want

  378. to hire me. And I always feel like that.

  379. And here's a question I've been asking myself, is that

  380. really possible?

  381. Why would you put that in there? Jesus? Is it

  382. really puzzling? Your burden is easy and your yoke is light.

  383. It's also confusing to me too, And this is what

  384. happens to me why I be reading the Bible, because

  385. there's another part of the scripture where He's like, narrow

  386. is the path and hard is the way. Like Okay,

  387. now you're confusing me because you over here.

  388. Here's why I.

  389. Want to submit to you today. And I'm not gonna

  390. belabor the sermon. We're gonna jump right into application and

  391. how we can do this. What I have realized is

  392. the way Jesus invites us to focus.

  393. Many times we complicate.

  394. Because it feels better when you get the credit for

  395. carrying your life. This is why religion sells so easy

  396. to you. This is why it's so easy to create religions,

  397. because it's just you do enough good things. You put

  398. all the weight on your back, and that way, when

  399. you get where you get to, you have nobody else

  400. to give credit except for yourself.

  401. And we do this with Jesus.

  402. He says, Hey, my burden is easy and my yoke

  403. is life. And in the original language, what he's saying,

  404. he's specifically talking about the way I teach you to follow,

  405. the way I teach you to do it's easy and

  406. it's light. But the truth is many of us complicated

  407. ourselves because we don't do it right.

  408. I don't know if you've ever had these experience.

  409. I have friends who they're like exuberant fitness people. Pastor

  410. Will he'dne lost three people and he looked it's amazing,

  411. and now he's getting into like mister Olympia Fays Pastor

  412. Michael be working out all the time, and you know

  413. they'd be trying to peer pressure me into working out,

  414. and I don't do it.

  415. You know what I'm saying.

  416. I'm saying, hey, listen, if y'all want to come psychle

  417. with me, then we can talk, but don't be trying

  418. to pressure me.

  419. I will not do it. But we be in there.

  420. Sometimes they be getting me and I'll be in there.

  421. It's been months, don't worry.

  422. I'll be in there and sometimes I'll be looking at

  423. them lifting weights and I'll be thinking that.

  424. I see what you're doing. But there's no way it's

  425. supposed to beat this hard. I'll never forget.

  426. A couple of years ago, I was working out with

  427. mister Scott and Scott Timoy. They've been here since the

  428. beginning of our church. Amazing, amazing family. And I used

  429. to work out with Scott in this garage back here,

  430. and now Scott is amazing.

  431. He works with Pastor Michael.

  432. He makes sure we all safe and if you're crazy,

  433. he will just end you, So don't do anything crazy.

  434. But but I remember I was working on missus Scott,

  435. and I'm convinced he'd just be making these workouts up.

  436. He's like, all right, here's what we're gonna do. We're

  437. gonna take this chair. Okay, we're gonna take it. We're

  438. gonna do six of these and you just throw a

  439. chair six two And I'm like, listen, Scott, I feel

  440. like you're making this no, no, no, you want to be strong,

  441. don't you like I think?

  442. I think I want to be So I'm out here

  443. throwing the chair a three actual workouts he does. Here's

  444. what I've realized.

  445. There are things in your life that you are completely

  446. capable to carry, but if you do not understand how

  447. to carry them, it makes something light very heavy. This

  448. chair is not that heavy, and if I put it

  449. on my shoulder like this, I'm fine. It's not heavy,

  450. genuine I can do what I'm supposed to do. I

  451. can walk around with it. But if I was trying

  452. to carry this chair with the back of my leg,

  453. you see what I'm saying.

  454. This is what we look like following Jesus.

  455. Oh yeah, I'll be reading so much Bible and I'll

  456. be going to church.

  457. You should come to my church. It's a great.

  458. It's only awkward because it was never meant to be

  459. carried that way. If you are in here today and

  460. focusing feels heavy, and focusing feels like condemnation, and focus

  461. feels like you better not mess it up, and focus

  462. feels like, hey, you better get it together, and you

  463. better make sure. That is not what Jesus is submitting

  464. to you today. The focus he is inviting us into

  465. is not a command of condemning. It is a command

  466. that he's trying to produce an expectation in you because

  467. he knows what He has prepared for you. I just

  468. want to submit to you an alternate ver. If you

  469. like feeling heavy and burden when you focus, have at it.

  470. But if you want another version, if you want to

  471. find a focus that is full of joy, if you

  472. want to find a focus that's full of excitement, if

  473. you want to find a focus that has the expectation

  474. attached to it, if you want to wake up excited for.

  475. What God wants to do.

  476. I am submitting to you that Jesus provides a way

  477. for your focus to produce freedom and still feel free.

  478. We don't talk about this as much in church. I

  479. know it's very easy in church to demonize your emotions,

  480. and your emotions are the devil that's not true because

  481. Jesus had emotions. We see it all throughout scripture. I

  482. can explain it to you later, but here is the truth.

  483. God designed this thing. He said, I came into this

  484. world that you would have life, and life more abundantly,

  485. life to the fool. And I am submitting today that

  486. there is a focus where you wake up feeling freer.

  487. There's a focus where you wake up.

  488. Feeling like, man, what does God want to do today?

  489. There's a focus you can have where it's not out

  490. of what are you gonna mess up? But it's because

  491. you don't want to miss it. It's because there's so

  492. much God wants to do that you want to make

  493. sure you're ready. So you start to focus on yourself

  494. and getting healthy. Not because you're terrified no one's ever

  495. gonna love you. You focus on it because you know

  496. God's preparing the person for you. So you say, you

  497. know what, I'm gonna take this single season.

  498. I'm gonna enjoy it so much.

  499. I'm gonna get so healthy, I'm gonna get in counseling,

  500. I'm gonna get in the gym.

  501. I'm gonna get my mind right.

  502. I'm gonna give it because you have an expectation for something,

  503. not because you're trying to prove something to somebody. And

  504. here's what you begin to realize, your focus starts to

  505. become the proof of your faith.

  506. Don't tell me you got faith if you haven't started

  507. focusing on it. Okay, let me explain.

  508. There are areas of my life where I've had to

  509. realize the only way I'm gonna be able to prove

  510. and show that I actually believe God can do something

  511. is I'm gonna start focusing on this area. I'm gonna

  512. start doing something on this. I'm gonna start focusing in

  513. on this. But today I'm gonna give you three points

  514. on how we can The title I think I put

  515. over this is how to flip your focus.

  516. If you've got to focus that is stuck.

  517. In fear and you want to move into a focus

  518. that is fueled by faith, I'm gonna give you three things.

  519. The first one, if you're taking notes, first thing you're

  520. gonna need if you're gonna flip your focus is a flash.

  521. Somebody say flash. Now here's the truth.

  522. I couldn't think of another word that started with the F,

  523. so I put flash, and I'm gonna explain it to you.

  524. So preachers, do we just make stuff up the scripture

  525. when they run to the tune it says the Angel

  526. was shining like lightning and there was a thunderstorm. And really,

  527. what I mean by flash you can put in parentheses

  528. in your notes, is an encounter. This is something that

  529. you cannot always control, but you can set the atmosphere for.

  530. And I want to spend a moment speaking to this

  531. for a second, because there are some of us that

  532. only believe that we can only get our faith inspired

  533. when we're in this room, when it's Sunday morning, when

  534. the room is perfectly set, and the whole goal of

  535. the room is just to have an encounter with God.

  536. I am telling you you can have an encounter with

  537. Jesus no matter where you are, and in one moment,

  538. God can remind you that He has a plan and

  539. a purpose for you.

  540. In one moment, God can inspire your faith. Do you

  541. know what? Say no, what, I don't have to live

  542. in fear.

  543. There's a better option for me to in one moment

  544. with Jesus. The goal of Sunday is not for you

  545. to leave Sunday thinking, man, I can't wait till the

  546. next Sunday.

  547. The goal of Sunday is used to.

  548. Saying I cannot wake up to wake up tomorrow and

  549. see what God does for me. I cannot wait to

  550. go out into my workplace, into my school. If you're

  551. gonna have a new focus, you got to create times

  552. where you can have an encounter with Jesus.

  553. You got to create these spaces.

  554. It would be doing you a disservice if we made

  555. you think that this is the only time God speaks.

  556. It's just not true. What is that moment? What does

  557. it look like to creator?

  558. It looks like being still for a moment. Some of

  559. us are so busy so fast. Let me as I say,

  560. someone's I be so busy run around. Yesterday we have

  561. Blues birthday party, and there was a moment in the

  562. birthday parties. I do this every single time where I

  563. disappear because it's just a lot of people, you know

  564. what I'm saying.

  565. And then my wife texts me. She says, where are

  566. you at? And I was like, oh, I was just

  567. going through our mail.

  568. That's literally the text I said to my wife. I

  569. was I was in our bedroom going through mail. That's

  570. how much I was so overwhelmed by the people, but.

  571. Busy day running around and I'm thinking I got to

  572. preach tomorrow.

  573. And literally last night I said, hey, bab I'm just

  574. gonna take a moment.

  575. I went into her room.

  576. I was in my closet just going through random stuff,

  577. but I had worship music on and I was just

  578. sitting there saying God to thank you that you're gonna

  579. speak tomorrow, thank You that whatever you want to do.

  580. And it's just a random moment in the regularness of

  581. your day where you can have an encounter. Number two,

  582. if you're gonna flip your focus, this is.

  583. Really the lynchpin of the whole thing. You gotta have friends.

  584. You gotta have friends.

  585. I cannot tell you how important it is for you

  586. to have a friend and friends in your life that

  587. can help you get out of a fear based focus.

  588. If you don't take none of these, take this one

  589. and say I need a matter of fact, you can

  590. say this, I will be a friend that will help

  591. somebody get out of a fear based focus. Some of

  592. you are so isolated, you're so in your mind that

  593. nobody can tell you nothing. But if you have some

  594. people around you that could remind you, Hey, this is

  595. not it. God's got a plan for you. Hey, it's

  596. not all gonna be like this. Remember when he lets

  597. you out last time. You gotta get some people in

  598. your life that can help you get out of that spot.

  599. And I'm tired of seeing the church.

  600. Picked off in isolation, standing by ourselves, asking questions by ourselves.

  601. Let me say this, everybody's got questions about the Bible.

  602. Let me acknowledge this because some of us. There are

  603. so many people in a generation who have deconstructed their

  604. faith because they have a question and because they don't

  605. understand how it works.

  606. Let me tell you, I'll be preaching it, and.

  607. There's stuff I don't understand how it works. But let

  608. me tell you this. You also cannot explain to me,

  609. unless you're a mechanic, exactly how your engine turns on.

  610. But you don't sit up in your car being like, Okay,

  611. let me see, let me see what's happening. Okay, is

  612. gonna fire, then the pistons are gonna go, Then littleit

  613. of fuel is gonna come in.

  614. You don't ask no questions. What do you do?

  615. You trust the person who made it that they know

  616. more than you, and you get in that thing and

  617. you start it up so you do not have to

  618. understand and be able to explain every detail and be

  619. able to arguing with somebody in order to use that thing.

  620. And the same is true with your faith. There's some

  621. wild stories in the Bible. I get it.

  622. I'll be reading like, hey oo, God, hey listen, that's

  623. hey yo. The concubines, just a lot go what's up

  624. with the multiple wives?

  625. Clearly we don't even be doing that.

  626. No more like there's a lot of stuff in there.

  627. But here's the thing. I'm not asking you to ignore it.

  628. I'm asking you, do you need it?

  629. To wake up tomorrow and do what Jesus has asked

  630. you to do.

  631. Love the Lord, your God with all your heart, soul

  632. and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. We be

  633. in arguments about theology that once you get the answer.

  634. You still ain't gonna do nothing different than you're doing

  635. right now. Oh great, post trip, that's so great. All right,

  636. I'm gonna.

  637. Still go out here and be unkind to all the

  638. people at Target.

  639. What you're gonna do when you get the answer. Well,

  640. if I just knew exactly when he was coming back

  641. in the locusts are helicopters, or what's up with all

  642. the planes falling up the sky? God?

  643. If you could speak to me through the Book of Rubber,

  644. it don't matter. You need to wake up tomorrow. You

  645. need the same grace. You need the same mercy to

  646. raise those kids to be faithful at the job.

  647. But that's very hard to do if you ain't got

  648. no friends who can tell you you're becoming a weird Christian.

  649. You're starting to do it again.

  650. You're getting on those weird Facebook pages and they're starting

  651. to get you.

  652. Stop it. Some of you are laughing because, like I

  653. run that Facebook page. It's not I'm not mad at you.

  654. I'm just saying, if your focus is feeling smaller and heavy,

  655. you need a friend that'll come up to you and say, hey,

  656. it's not always going to be like this. Hey gee,

  657. remember that last time when we thought we were never

  658. going to get through it. See how this is why

  659. Pastor Roosevelt was leading us so amazingly and worship.

  660. This is why worship is so powerful.

  661. Worship is reminding yourself, Oh yeah, God's bigger than that.

  662. That's what worship is.

  663. Worship is, oh yeah, God is bigger than my anxiety.

  664. God is bigger than this current situation. God is bigger

  665. than how I feel. God is bigger than what I'm

  666. going through. God is bigger. If you're gonna flip your focus,

  667. you gotta have an encounter with God. If you're gonna

  668. flip your focus, you need friends. And last one, if

  669. you're gonna flip your focus, you're going to need to

  670. focus on forever. Focus on forever. There's a scripture. I

  671. actually read it at the beginning. It's Second Corinthians, and

  672. it's such a powerful scripture. I want to read it

  673. again because I think it holds a secret in how

  674. we can get out of our place of fear can

  675. be so easy.

  676. I'm Gonnavite Keys and the team to come back up

  677. says this. Therefore, we do not lose heart.

  678. Though our outward person is decaying, our inner person is

  679. being renewed day by day, says for our momentary and

  680. light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of

  681. glory far beyond comparison. Now you got to register who

  682. is writing this.

  683. This is Paul.

  684. Paul who has been beaten and got thirty nine lashes

  685. over and over again. Paul who's been shipwrecked time and

  686. time again. There's a description about where Paul lists everything

  687. he's been through and then he uses this language our

  688. light and momentary afflictions. Paul had access to something different.

  689. He had a prospective, He had a focus that was different.

  690. How do you continue to preach the gospel knowing they're

  691. gonna throw you in jail the second they see you.

  692. How do you continue to speak up and say I

  693. know what I saw, even when you know you're gonna

  694. have scars on.

  695. Your back for the rest of your life.

  696. For your testimony, it's because you had a focus that

  697. was not on the things we see. You had a

  698. focus that was not fueled by fear.

  699. You had a focus I was thinking about forever.

  700. And here is the cheap code to our light and

  701. momentary sufferings. It's remembering, well, there's one day where I

  702. will see Jesus face to face. There's one day where

  703. the Bible says he will wipe every tear from our eye.

  704. I want to remind you, friend, we are not in

  705. here worshiping about a fairy tale. We are not in

  706. here singing songs to a god who has a tombstune.

  707. We are not in here talking just about an idea

  708. or goosebumps or a feeling. We are in here because

  709. Jesus Christ of Nazareth is Lord and he is alive.

  710. And the reason I can stay focused, the reason I'm

  711. gonna raise my kids to serve Jesus, the reason I'm

  712. gonna stand in my posts and I'm not gonna back up,

  713. the reason I'm gonna do it God's way, the reason

  714. I will stay here is because Jesus is my king

  715. and one day I'm gonna see him. So when I'm

  716. going through my current situation and when i start to

  717. feel heavy, when I start to feel like I don't

  718. know what I'm gonna do, and when I start to

  719. have questions, I can back up for a second and say,

  720. you know what, this is light and momentary compared to eternity.

  721. This is light and momentary compared to forever. I have

  722. a very very simple message today, and to God be

  723. the glory. You're gonna go to brunch and think about it. Hello, somebody,

  724. it is how does your focus feel? And if it

  725. feels heavy, if it feels like a burden, it feels

  726. like you're carrying it by yourself. I want to submit

  727. that today God can exchange your focus.

  728. That's really what it is today.

  729. I just I wanted to submit that God would invite

  730. you into a fresh focus. Focus that feels exciting, A

  731. focus that feels like you have some expectation, A focus

  732. that feels like God.

  733. Wants to do something new.

  734. I will take a moment and I'm gonna ask everybody in.

  735. The room to buy your head and close your eyes.

  736. And we got a little bit of extra time here.

  737. And what I'm gonna ask you to do is I'm

  738. gonna ask Roosevelt to play and lead us in just

  739. a moment, and it won't be long. But while he's singing,

  740. I want you to truly ask yourself, how have I

  741. been feeling about my folk?

  742. Is there any heaviness in your focus?

  743. Is there any fear in your focus? What is it

  744. that you're afraid of missing? What is it that you're

  745. afraid of messing up? What is it that keeps you

  746. your hands clinched so tight, and your spirit so heavy,

  747. and your eyes so closed in?

  748. What is it? What is that thing? I said, Hey,

  749. I'm believing.

  750. That Jesus himself will begin to exchange that focus. So

  751. what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna say a prayer.

  752. Say a prayer for two groups of people. First group

  753. of people. Maybe you're in here today and your focus

  754. has felt really heavy. Maybe you felt worried about your

  755. current situation. You're worried about the future. Maybe there's real

  756. circumstances situation.

  757. That you have reason to worry. I'm not here to

  758. diminish your worry. I'm just saying there's a God who

  759. loves you that you can give it to.

  760. If you're in this room and you've walked in feeling heavy,

  761. you walked in feeling the weight of life. You walked

  762. in feeling the burden of the situation you're going through.

  763. Maybe you're carrying a loved one.

  764. Maybe you're carrying your kids. Maybe it's the weight of

  765. your job.

  766. Maybe it's the weight of just trying to become something different.

  767. Some of y'all in.

  768. Here you're fighting with everything you've got to become a

  769. different version of yourself. You've beat the addiction, but you're

  770. still fighting it. You're starting a new family, and you

  771. don't have all the answers. If you walked in feeling

  772. heavy today, really this message is exchanging heaviness for the

  773. light burden that Jesus provides.

  774. If you're in here and that's you, you.

  775. Say you know what I relate to that I felt

  776. a little heavy. Maybe you're watching online and you said

  777. you felt that burden. I'm gonna count three. I'm gonna

  778. ask you to lift your hand. Everybody's eyes are gonna

  779. stay closed. But it's just an acknowledgment. It's being honest, humble,

  780. open and transparent saying you know what I've met. Yeah,

  781. I've been feeling heavy. If that's you in this room,

  782. and you'll pray for you, just lift your hand. One, two, three,

  783. all over this room, all online. If you're watching online,

  784. you can put in the chat. I've been feeling heavy,

  785. that's me.

  786. That's me. Now I'm gonna do something a little different.

  787. Keep your hand raised. I want you to open your

  788. eyes and look around. Here's why I did that. You

  789. are not alone and how you feel. The biggest lie of.

  790. The enemy is for you to sit there in your

  791. chair and you think I'm the only one with my

  792. hand raised.

  793. Nobody else feels it like this. Everybody else has. It's

  794. not true. We all have questions and we all have

  795. things we're going through. So now together as a family,

  796. would you buy your heads.

  797. I want to pray for you, Lord Jesus, you'll see

  798. if with our hands raised, saying, there are times where

  799. it feels heavy, it feels too heavy to bear, it

  800. feels too heavy to.

  801. Lift on our own.

  802. And so right now, Jesus, we are exchanging the heavy burden.

  803. We're bringing it to you because you're the one who

  804. has the answers. You're the ones who has the clarity.

  805. You're the one who knows what to do. So God,

  806. we exchange this heavy burden for yours. I pray right now,

  807. Lord Jesus, that you would do something that only you

  808. can do.

  809. Every head bowed, every eye still close. There's some of

  810. you in this room.

  811. And the reason you feel like you're carrying a heavy

  812. burden is because you are carrying it by yourself. You've

  813. been trying to carry the weight of this world. You've

  814. been trying to make sure you're being a good person,

  815. trying to make sure you have all the answers for everybody.

  816. And the truth is you're tired. Maybe it's hard to admit.

  817. Maybe your body's not tired, maybe your mind is tired.

  818. Jesus provides another way Bible says, he's a friend that

  819. sticks closer than a brother. He's an ever present help

  820. in time of need.

  821. He's strength in your weakness.

  822. If you're in here today or you're watching online and

  823. you want to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior,

  824. I'm gonna count to three.

  825. I'm gonna ask you to raise your hand.

  826. I believe when you raise your hand on the outset,

  827. it's a confirmation and a visualization visuals. Oh wat, y'all

  828. that word took me out. It's a picture of what's happening.

  829. Come on, I had to change the word.

  830. Geez, that was tough. Anyways, we can laugh and stay spiritual.

  831. Roads all right, you're.

  832. Gonna raise your hand to tell yourself what you're doing

  833. one of the most beautiful moments of your life.

  834. Change everything. If you want to accept Jesus as your

  835. Lord and savior, I'm gonna count the three. I want
