  1. Welcome to Transformation Church podcast, where we represent God to

  2. the lost and found for transformation in Christ. We're so

  3. glad you're here and wherever you're listening from, we believe

  4. God will transform your life. Do today's message.

  5. Open up your bibles. We got two key scriptures to read.

  6. Two scriptures to read.

  7. The first one is in the Book of Philippians Philippians

  8. chapter number one. If you got your bible, go there.

  9. I'm gonna drink some of this water while you all

  10. find your scripture.

  11. God bless you that see me all. I ain't been

  12. quiet all week. That was so awkward for you. Oh

  13. you're really just gonna drink that water? I'm thirsty, okay,

  14. Philippians chapter number one. If you gotta say, I got it.

  15. If you don't, too bad, okay.

  16. Philippians Chapter one says this, For I fully expect and

  17. hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I

  18. will continue to be bold for Christ as I.

  19. Have been in the past.

  20. And I trust that my life will bring honor to

  21. Christ whether I live or die. For to me, living

  22. means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But

  23. if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ,

  24. So I really don't know which is better. I'm torn

  25. between two desires. I long to go and be with Christ,

  26. which would be far better for me, But for your sakes,

  27. it's better.

  28. That I continue to live. I'm gonna jump down.

  29. We're gonna go to Hebrews chapter two, and they'll throw

  30. it on the screen for y'all.

  31. Just read real quick.

  32. Because God's children are human beings made of flesh and blood.

  33. The Son became flesh and blood for only as a

  34. human being could he die.

  35. Only by dying.

  36. Could he break a power of the devil who held the.

  37. Power of death.

  38. Listen to this, Only in this way could he set

  39. free all who have lived their lives as slaves to

  40. the fear of dying. Title of my sermon, if you're

  41. taking notes, is gonna be a good I've been waiting

  42. to preach this one since week one, and I had

  43. to end the title because the first title was a

  44. little too intense.

  45. I'm gonna live till I die.

  46. Oh yeah, baby, it's about to get active up in here.

  47. I'm gonna live till I die.

  48. Lord, We thank you that because of.

  49. You we can live till we die.

  50. And the name of cheesually praying everybody set amen, Amen.

  51. I love about you, but uh, I don't know if

  52. you have any things that you are particularly afraid of,

  53. things that worry you. But I took some time this

  54. week to look up the top five greatest fears historically

  55. in human history. Top five greatest fears, and I'm gonna

  56. list some of them and maybe if you relate to

  57. some of them.

  58. You can just give me a woop whoop, yep, that's

  59. me terrified. Uh, then we'll go through these.

  60. Coming in at number five all time they polled, I

  61. guess the world. I don't know when they sent it

  62. out because I didn't fill it out, but uh, top

  63. number five is uh spiders.

  64. Who's afraid of spiders? Come on?

  65. Makes them know you're fraid of spiders. She put two

  66. hands up. Absolutely, come on. Some of you all like,

  67. I'm not fraid of spiders. I was a kid in

  68. fifth grade. They had a tarantula. You know what I'm

  69. saying for show and tell. Spiders number five, coming in

  70. at number four, snakes.

  71. Who's the frad snake?

  72. Somebody said, whoop, yeah, I don't mess when no snakes.

  73. The devil is a liar? Come on, now, why are

  74. you playing with what the devil was? It don't make

  75. no sense. We don't actually know if he was a snake.

  76. But anyways, uh, we got spiders, we got snakes. Number

  77. of what would be three would be heights. Who's afraid

  78. of heights? Like, you don't mess being up high? Ain't

  79. got no business being up there. I used to not

  80. be afraid of heights, but I think the older I get,

  81. the closer to the ground I want to be. It's

  82. just like, I don't know why I used to climb

  83. trees and be stacked, Like, oh my gosh, I'm not

  84. gonna let any of my kids climb trees.

  85. It's such a dumb decision. Anyways.

  86. Number three, number two historically the whole world.

  87. Greatest fear dying. There's number two.

  88. It's not number one.

  89. Throw some of y'all like, yeah, I don't want to die.

  90. Come on.

  91. Number one, greatest fear of all time, which might I add,

  92. just take note of how brave.

  93. I am up here public speaking.

  94. It's the number one. I'm just saying, pastors are really brave.

  95. We conquer that thing every single week. Top five greatest fears.

  96. I want to talk to you today about your relationship

  97. to what happens at the end of your life.

  98. Being afraid to die.

  99. Now this is it makes sense. It's a very common thing,

  100. and it's funny to me.

  101. I was looking at it.

  102. Like, really, public speaking, is people more afraid of public

  103. speaking than dying? And I read an article and said, well, really,

  104. what they're afraid of is being publicly embarrassed in front

  105. of people. So they would rather just go ahead and

  106. be gone from the planet than still be here.

  107. And you thinking.

  108. About how bad I am at what I do. It's

  109. the public shame, the public embarrassment. And today I want

  110. to submit to you that, if you would like, you

  111. can have a different relationship to how you were to

  112. relate to death and dying. And I want to give

  113. you my thesis today. This is gonna sum up the

  114. whole sermon and one singular point.

  115. Write this down.

  116. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, the greatest

  117. fear for a believer is not dying, but rather never

  118. finding the courage to truly live. I'm about to walk

  119. you through this because of what Jesus did on the Cross,

  120. the greatest fear you have is not dying. The greatest

  121. fear for a believer is will you ever find the

  122. courage to truly live? Because in case nobody told you,

  123. there is a difference between being alive and living. And

  124. many of us have settled for just being alive, settled

  125. for just making it, settled for just I'm trying to

  126. make it through.

  127. But Jesus did not get.

  128. Whipped thirty nine times and die on a cross just

  129. so you could be alive until you die. He died

  130. on the cross so you would not have to be

  131. afraid and you could actually live. You could actually chase

  132. the dreams that God put on the inside of you.

  133. You can actually live with the boldness we read in scripture.

  134. It is not enough to just be alive.

  135. You have to make the decision to have the courage

  136. to actually live.

  137. Many believers they.

  138. Want to use this idea you know that, oh man,

  139. if you really love something, you die for something. That's

  140. how you know you really love something. And it's true.

  141. I mean, parents, you'll get this. I never knew the

  142. feeling of I would die for something until you start

  143. having babies. It's the most crazy feeling. They just you

  144. look at them and you're like, all right, yep, I

  145. will go to jail. I will do.

  146. Illegal things for this little person.

  147. Like it's just how it works. I mean, there are

  148. so many different times literally.

  149. Luna. So our second child, Luna Rows.

  150. She just turned five, and Luna was going up to

  151. her next class. As a matter of fact, she should

  152. be in there today, her new class. She had hustled

  153. somehow the last two weeks and hadn't been in her

  154. real class. And I found this out. She didn't mean

  155. to give away the information. Luna be telling herself and

  156. be like, no, I didn't say that, but I was talking.

  157. To Luna and she was like.

  158. I was like, baby, you got to go to the

  159. five's class and she I was like.

  160. Haven't you been going? She's like, oh, I ain't been going.

  161. And I was like, well, what's going on?

  162. And she's like, well, Dad, there's mean kids in the

  163. fives class. And I was like, there's not no mean

  164. kids up an that five's class. You are a mean

  165. kid sometimes too, You're gonna be all right, no, and

  166. she was like, there really is. And she was like

  167. what if they hurt me or do something. I said, ain't.

  168. Nobody hurt you? And she's like dah.

  169. She got really worked up, and I was just in

  170. a tough mood. Honestly, I said, listen, if there's any

  171. mean kids, I will go find a mama and daddy

  172. and I will talk to them.

  173. People for you. She said, you don't even know them.

  174. I was like, I can find them, though, Baby, don't

  175. worry about it.

  176. But there's this feeling as a parent that you feel

  177. like I love you so much I would die for you.

  178. And that is a level of conviction and passion.

  179. As a matter of fact, there's.

  180. A quote I want to read to you by Martin

  181. Luther King Junior. He said this in a speech in

  182. Detroit in June twenty third, nineteen sixty three. If he

  183. tries to kill you develop the inner conviction that there

  184. are some things so dear, something so eternally true, something

  185. so precious, they are worth dying for. And if a

  186. man has not discovered something that he will die for,

  187. in a sense, he is not fit to live. He

  188. had a conviction that I believe this so much, It

  189. matters to me so much that I would give my

  190. life for it. And the premise he is submitting is

  191. that you have never truly lived until you've found something

  192. you believe you would die for, until you found a

  193. cause that you feel like is significant enough that you

  194. would give up your own desires, give up your own ideas.

  195. This is why marriage is one of the most beautiful

  196. pictures on the earth. Is because we are called to

  197. die for each other. I know, and sometimes we got

  198. the stats and it doesn't always work out. But the

  199. truth is the reason it don't work out is because

  200. two people want to stay exactly how they are. But

  201. the scripture says, you got to die.

  202. To your own desires.

  203. You gotta die to what you want, You gotta die

  204. to how you load the dishwasher. Hello, somebody, a dishwasher almost.

  205. Took us ours first year. It's like, you just put

  206. it in.

  207. My wife her thing is she washed all the dishes

  208. before she put them in there.

  209. I'm like, what we got the dishwasher for? If I

  210. can't load a spoon ful of peanut butter and a dishwasher.

  211. This dishwasher broke and a dishwasher it's a dish rubber.

  212. I don't know what it's.

  213. Doing, but that was crazy anyways, But we're gonna move along.

  214. But you gotta ask yourself, have you found.

  215. Something you believe in enough and you die for it? Now?

  216. It's having a conversation with one of my friends, Carl,

  217. and he actually part of his story is he spent

  218. some time in a rehab facility and he was telling

  219. me one of the most significant nights he had.

  220. In his group. They were going around with a counselor.

  221. They were talking and there was a bunch of guys

  222. in this circle talking about things they have gone through,

  223. and one man specifically was like, man, I love my kids.

  224. Guys was like, yeah, yeah, I know. I love them

  225. so much. I believe you. No, I love them so much.

  226. I die for them, my friend said.

  227. She looked back to him, said, sir, I don't question

  228. whether or not you die for your kids.

  229. My question is will you live for your kids.

  230. Because in some extent, it's easy to say you die

  231. for them.

  232. Because then you don't have to keep putting in the work.

  233. For some of us, it's easy to say I die

  234. for it because it's just this one moment, this dramatic

  235. decision that everybody looks at as so brave.

  236. But I want to submit.

  237. To you this morning that one of the bravest things

  238. you could do is not dying for Jesus, but living

  239. for Jesus. Because we all quick to say we die

  240. for Jesus. Man, if they put me in a situation

  241. they put a goup in my hand, say you love Jesus,

  242. I do it, okay, but you don't.

  243. Read your Bible now.

  244. So while we out here bragging about dying for Jesus,

  245. why don't we take a second to live for Jesus.

  246. The reason we read about these scriptures and the life

  247. of the New Testament Church is so impressive. It's not

  248. just because they die for Jesus. They died for Jesus.

  249. After they had lived for Jesus. They believed he was real,

  250. They saw miracles happen, They preached and were thrown in prison,

  251. came back out and kept preaching. The reason there are

  252. people that you love and you look up to. It's

  253. not that they're just willing to die, They're willing to live.

  254. And my question is, have you found something with enough

  255. conviction on the inside of your heart? Is the message

  256. of Jesus, is the dreams he's giving you?

  257. Is the family you have?

  258. Not?

  259. Is it enough worth dying for? Is it enough worth

  260. living for? Are you actually gonna get over the insecurity?

  261. Are you actually gonna do what he asked you?

  262. To do. I'm not worried about if you die for it.

  263. I'm asking where you live, will you actually do it?

  264. Will you actually get healthy in the areas you know.

  265. You need to get healthy.

  266. Because it's easy to say, yah, I die for him, But.

  267. The truth is, it's gonna take more work to live

  268. for him.

  269. It's gonna take more work to get healthy.

  270. It's gonna take more work to do the work.

  271. And I'm preaching this with such conviction is because this

  272. message of the Bible is marked by miracles, signs, and

  273. wonders that many of us are frustrated that we feel

  274. like we can't see in our life. And the truth is,

  275. you do not get that result unless you live how

  276. they lived.

  277. So there's a disconnect here.

  278. You cannot live in a comfortable I don't want to

  279. be embarrassed to raise my hands in worship and then

  280. expect to pray for the dead and they come back

  281. to life. I'm trying to save us some time. The

  282. reason crazy stuff and shadows were healing people is because

  283. they were willing not just to die, but they were

  284. willing to live. They were willing to be embarrassed for

  285. the sake of Christ. They were willing to speak out

  286. and be a little strange. They were not worried so

  287. much about how they would look and what people would

  288. think and what was going on that they would not live.

  289. And the truth is many of us are just alive.

  290. But my question is are you living? Are you living

  291. with conviction? Are you living with passion? Are you waking

  292. up every single day knowing that God chows you for

  293. this day? And the angels of Heaven's armies are standing

  294. at attention, ready to take war on whatever territory God

  295. has placed in front of you. I don't know about you,

  296. but as for me and the Metcalf House, we wake

  297. up every day ready to do damage to the pits

  298. of Hell because the devil has.

  299. Taken enough of my family. He's taken enough of my friends,

  300. and I'm.

  301. Sick and tired of acting life. The god of the

  302. universe don't live up on the inside of me.

  303. I didn't sign up to do.

  304. This to play Patty Cake and us have our little

  305. club and all our friends die and go to Hell.

  306. I came to rob hell with all my friends and

  307. see people's lives change. And if you're looking for a

  308. place just to do charge and sing some songs and

  309. just make it to heaven.

  310. That's awesome.

  311. That's not what he died for. And that's not what

  312. this book is about. The greatest thing you get out

  313. of church in Jesus is not a get out of

  314. hell free card.

  315. Oh great, I'm saved.

  316. Okay, now it just gotta make it and just hope

  317. he can do something and just see maybe it's something.

  318. Forget. I don't want that. That's what this is. You

  319. can keep that, because here's the truth.

  320. There's way too much sacrifice and work and discipline and

  321. all these things you gotta work.

  322. Out of you.

  323. If we're just gonna settle for this low living, why

  324. would we do that?

  325. It don't make no sense. This is why a lot

  326. of people don't make sense of the church. They're like,

  327. so you.

  328. Gonna do all that, but nothing really happened in your life,

  329. and it doesn't seem like you have any more peace,

  330. and it doesn't seem like you really like your spouse,

  331. and it doesn't seem like you give money, and it

  332. seems like you judge people who just look differently than you.

  333. I'm okay, y'all can keep that.

  334. You want to know why they preach on the first

  335. day of your ooh s built my whole water.

  336. Look at it. That's why they can't be having water

  337. up here.

  338. Man, you want to know why, on the first day

  339. the message of Jesus is preached, three thousand people get saved.

  340. It was not because people are like.

  341. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I kind of believe this Jesus thing,

  342. or it's kind of cool. No, it's because they believed

  343. it with such conviction.

  344. They were willing to live for it.

  345. My question is, are you willing to live for the

  346. life in front of you? Are willing to give up

  347. some things, are willing to become somebody different.

  348. Now here's the deal.

  349. We're going to talk about the willingness to live. We

  350. gotta address the fear of dying.

  351. This is a real thing.

  352. And I'll tell you a funny backstory on this. So

  353. when last year in August of twenty twenty four, we

  354. were doing seven days of prayer and fasting and there

  355. was a night where I was leading prayer.

  356. Man, if you've never been.

  357. To prayer at translation church, you are missing out. It

  358. is one of the most beautiful things we do.

  359. It's so powerful.

  360. You gotta join us or that prayer. And I'm going

  361. and I'm praying, and somehow I get to the statement

  362. I'm not afraid to die.

  363. I start yelling at it. I'm like, I'm not afraid

  364. to die, and I sure ain't afraid to live. And

  365. I'm just screaming as I do.

  366. And the next day, at around seven am, I get

  367. hit by a car on my bike, and so I

  368. was like, hey, yo, God, you know what I'm saying,

  369. I'm not afraid to die.

  370. But I'm not saying I want to die. You know

  371. what I'm saying. I just just saying in theory.

  372. Because you've been so good.

  373. I know what's gonna happen. I'm gonna see you.

  374. But I do have some life to live, so I

  375. appreciate it if you don't take me out.

  376. But that story I did.

  377. I got hit by a car on my bike and

  378. super traumatic and my friend, actually Mo, who's sitting right over.

  379. Here, found me laying on the side of the road.

  380. He was on the phone pastor Michael, and he's like,

  381. I think I see PC.

  382. He's like what He's like, Yeah, I think he just

  383. got hit by a car.

  384. I was only laid out on the side of the road.

  385. MO picks me up. It's my witness. I pass out. Literally,

  386. it was a super tramatic thing. My road rash all up,

  387. my leg had a.

  388. Terrible concussion, and Mo calls my wife and she picks

  389. up the phone. He calls from my phone and she

  390. thinks it's me, so she just says hello. In the

  391. second she hears his voice, he's terrified. He says, hey,

  392. I got PC. He's okay, He's been in an accident.

  393. And fast forward a little bit. I go to the

  394. doctor's office. Miraculously, no broken bones. I did have a

  395. very very bad uh.

  396. It was great. No a back concussion. And in the

  397. middle of that also, I also, at this time had

  398. six weeks left until.

  399. My book was due, and for those weeks I was

  400. laid up in the bed trying to remember my middle name.

  401. So it was a terrible situation. But pretty much it's

  402. from that moment. It brought a choice to me, which

  403. was because of an instance that happened, are you gonna

  404. let that moment define how you interact and move forward.

  405. There's a moment in all of our lives where something

  406. traumatic will happen to you, something intense will happen to you,

  407. and what it's coming after is not actually trying to

  408. kill you.

  409. You see, that car hitting me wasn't trying to kill me.

  410. It was just to get me to stop living. It

  411. was to get me to stop doing something because for me,

  412. I found cycling because it helped my mental health. I

  413. get on that bike, pedal till I stopped thinking.

  414. And it's the most beautiful thing.

  415. You have not lived until you've been awake at six

  416. am and rode into a sunrise.

  417. It's the most beautiful thing in the world.

  418. It's kind of cold, and then you sit down a

  419. coffee shop and drinking espresso.

  420. It is a vibe. I'm just telling you, it's the

  421. best thing in the world.

  422. But it was this weird dynamic because there was one

  423. part of me and when I went to get back

  424. on my bike, it felt like okay, finally, because I

  425. feel like I'm going crazy sitting up in this house.

  426. But then there was another part of me. Still to this.

  427. Day, yesterday, I rode my bike anytime I hear a

  428. car shoulders lock up, and I brace myself just in

  429. case life comes after not your willingness to die or

  430. your willingness to live.

  431. Now, in my statement, I said this sentence, and I've got.

  432. To clarify this for you, it says, because of what

  433. Jesus did on the cross, the greatest fear a human has,

  434. and specifically a believer has, is.

  435. Not the fear of dying. The scripture I want to

  436. read to you again in Hebrews and explain.

  437. This to you because I think it'll be so helpful

  438. your life. It says this we read it earlier because

  439. God's children are human beings made of flesh and blood.

  440. The Son also became flesh and blood.

  441. Listen to this, for only as a human being.

  442. Could he die.

  443. And only by dying could he break the power of death,

  444. the power of the devil who had the power of death.

  445. Only in this way could he set all who have

  446. lived their lives free from a slave with the fear

  447. of dying. We don't really connect with this idea.

  448. I get it.

  449. For some people, it's like a super morbid thought to

  450. ever think that you might die one day.

  451. And the truth is.

  452. There are certain people in personality. As a matter of fact,

  453. one time it took a personality test and it's like,

  454. you've probably thought that you were going to die at

  455. an early age for most of your life.

  456. And I was like, I have thought that.

  457. I don't know.

  458. I thought it was.

  459. Gonna be some dramatic story of something that happened in

  460. my life. But for some reason, I never thought of

  461. the fear of that. But the truth is, once you

  462. give your life to Jesus, what he came to do

  463. ultimately is take away the greatest thing that would keep

  464. you from living, and that would be what happens when

  465. I die. The biggest power that Jesus comes to give

  466. the believer is not just the power of every single

  467. day life. It is ultimately the trump card to the

  468. devil that in this life I win, and in the

  469. next life I win. The Early Church under stood this

  470. as a matter of fact. Early on in the Early Church,

  471. when they would have martyrs and people in their church

  472. who would die, they would throw a party for them,

  473. and they would throw a party, not just a funeral,

  474. but they would throw a party to tell the Roman government, Hey, dummies,

  475. y'all thought that y'all were hurting us by killing our friend,

  476. But you don't realize he's been waiting for the day

  477. he could see.

  478. His Savior face to face.

  479. So thank you very much for helping us get to

  480. where we're all trying to go. Now some of us

  481. we can't even think about that because of the connections

  482. we have and the life we want to live, and

  483. do not get it twisted. I love my life, and

  484. I choose to wake up and live every single day,

  485. and I do not have to be afraid of.

  486. What happens when I die.

  487. When I die, I'm gonna look Jesus in Revelations nineteen,

  488. the man with the white hair and the feet of bronze.

  489. And the eyes of fire.

  490. I'm gonna be looking him eye to eye, and I

  491. will have peace for every more and every tear will

  492. be white from our eye, and I will be walking

  493. on streets of gold, and I don't see my family members.

  494. I know what happens to me when I die. I

  495. don't have to be afraid.

  496. And it's important that you understand this because if not,

  497. there is an underlying current of fear that shapes everything

  498. that you do, everything that you won't do, and everything

  499. that you are because you're acting as if you're unsure

  500. of what He did.

  501. The truth is, you don't have to be afraid. Now.

  502. I know this gospel message doesn't hit the same in

  503. certain contexts because in the early Church, when they were

  504. preaching this trust and faith, and he would have read

  505. this scripture and it would have been read aloud in

  506. the church.

  507. It would have meant a lot.

  508. More because some of their friends were.

  509. Being dragged into the Colosseum.

  510. So it hits differently when he says, hey, you know

  511. how they're persecuting us and they're taking Christians into the

  512. coliseum and they're killing them in front of people.

  513. Just so you know, even if that happens.

  514. To you, you will be seeing Christ face to face.

  515. So you can stand with your head held high and

  516. you can live with the boldness in your spirit to

  517. know that you serve a God who, as the Bible says,

  518. put death to death, so.

  519. You don't have to be afraid of that thing.

  520. So after you established that because of what Jesus did

  521. on the cross, and you surrendering your life to him,

  522. you don't have to be afraid of dying.

  523. My question is what keeps us from living?

  524. What keeps us from doing what God called us to do?

  525. Reach stories in this book of Shadows healing people, and

  526. there's a story of which helps me. You know, as

  527. a preacher, I don't even getting offended because one of

  528. the greatest preachers of all time is preaching and a

  529. god falls asleep and falls out the window.

  530. He lively.

  531. They're sitting in the house in a upper room and

  532. he's sitting in the window and he dozes all fallse

  533. three stories Bam, smacks on the ground.

  534. He's dead. I would have been another preacher like dang,

  535. it was that bad. He just.

  536. They walk down the stairs pray for boom, he comes

  537. right back to life.

  538. This is the miracles that happen.

  539. But I really believe it all is anchored back to

  540. these people's understanding and the boldness and the belief they

  541. had of who their God was.

  542. And the greatest issue.

  543. That I've seen in my own life that I've had

  544. conversations with people about is the frustration between what we.

  545. Read in this book and what we see in our lives.

  546. So I read in this book that these things can happen,

  547. but I don't see it in my life.

  548. I read in this.

  549. Book that people get saved and massive droves. I read

  550. in this book that he can heal. I read in

  551. this book that he can provide, but I don't see

  552. it in my life. And if you were to talk

  553. to anybody who spent time in the gym.

  554. If you looked at them, you.

  555. Can't envy what they have unless you're willing to do

  556. what they did. And if you're not willing to do

  557. what they did, do not expect to have what they have.

  558. And in the same way, I would lovingly say sometimes

  559. it would be unwise of us to expect what they

  560. have and not be willing.

  561. To do what they did. What do they do?

  562. They lived with a conviction enough that spoke with boldness

  563. about their faith, regardless of the setting or circumstance. What

  564. does that look like nowadays? Some of us it's very

  565. hard to us to say the name Jesus at work

  566. because you don't want to be the weird Jesus person.

  567. Some of us it's hard to.

  568. Lift our hands in worship with all the weird Jesus

  569. people because we still feel like I don't.

  570. Want to be too weird though, you know what I'm saying.

  571. What is it?

  572. Why is it that we won't live? Why is it

  573. that we won't do what God's asked us to do?

  574. Why is it that we have dreams and ideas and visions?

  575. Miles Moureau was quoted to say, the richest place in

  576. the world is the grave yard because it's full of

  577. ideas and full of potential never reached. And my real

  578. question is is how come something dramatic in our life

  579. has to happen for us to then decide to live.

  580. I know this sermon is kind of back and forth

  581. with somebody are like yeah, and the you're like, man,

  582. why are you talking about death?

  583. It's kind of weird. But the truth is, let me

  584. be honest with you. I'm gonna lovel with you.

  585. You know, when you go to a funeral and you

  586. leave and for some reason you have more clarity on

  587. what matters, more clarity on the value of life, it's

  588. because there's some layer of that that is healthy for

  589. you to understand.

  590. The scripture says tomorrow is not promised.

  591. And I know, and are just ignore and it's not

  592. a big deal and we're all gonna live for ever

  593. and it's all gonna be fine.

  594. That sometimes is a scary thought, But the.

  595. Truth is Jesus gives us the comfort of that. He says, Hey,

  596. you don't have to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow has

  597. enough worries about itself. What he's saying is, don't worry

  598. about what's gonna happen to you. You don't know what's

  599. gonna happen to you, and when it does happen to you,

  600. you're gonna be with me and you're gonna be okay.

  601. The question is what will you do today? Are you

  602. gonna live today? How many more sermons.

  603. We're gonna have to hear before we do the idea

  604. we know we've been supposed to do.

  605. How many more prophetic words were.

  606. Gonna need for someone to confirm what you got confirmed

  607. when you.

  608. Had had it confirmed.

  609. I'm not talking from a lack of experience. I'm talking

  610. from I'm a professional of I got notes in Google

  611. docs of prophetic words and red strings strung up in

  612. places where I'm like, okay, when that happens on this date,

  613. And then I get this Pastor Brennan, you got anything

  614. for a minute, just checking?

  615. Okay? Cool? Come on?

  616. You ever reached out to a couple of profits, you

  617. not just being like.

  618. How y'all doing?

  619. Hoping they got a word and they're like, good to

  620. see you, And it's like, oh right, I've done that

  621. because why Because I'm worried.

  622. I don't know if I.

  623. Have what it takes to live, I have what it

  624. takes to be alive, But the truth is to go

  625. from alive to actually living, there is a deep sense

  626. of courage and a deep sense of boldness, and a

  627. deep sense of understanding that even if I fail, it's okay.

  628. And that is the question is do you have the

  629. courage to live? Do you have the boldness it'll take

  630. to step up and try the idea and it might fail?

  631. Do you have the boldness to step up and try

  632. to become who you feel like you could never be,

  633. but you really want to be, so you're gonna start

  634. taking some steps. Will you ever find the courage to live?

  635. To not settle for just breathing in this life, for

  636. not settle for just making money, spending money, losing money,

  637. getting more money. That is not the essence of your life.

  638. Your job is not the essence of your life. Getting

  639. a car is not the essence of your life. Whatever

  640. that they thing is you want, when you get it,

  641. it will not fix it until you decide to live.

  642. Decide to live, And that's the truth. It is a decision,

  643. and life is not always going to be primed for

  644. you to wake up and live with purpose and wake

  645. up live and feel like you're the person that you

  646. want to be.

  647. But the truth is you still have a choice. Some

  648. of you. You're in such a dark place.

  649. You've experienced such pain, and the pain didn't kill you,

  650. but it.

  651. Kept you from living.

  652. Pain didn't kill your marriage, but it kept it from living.

  653. Pain didn't kill the relationship with your children. But it's

  654. definitely not living.

  655. And my question is, and may I add that maybe

  656. the devil would much rather you live mediocre than die

  657. as a martyr, because the truth is, you die as

  658. a martyr, it's going to start a revolution around the world.

  659. So he would much rather keep you alive and keep

  660. you just living a regular day, regular kind of okay,

  661. halfway in, halfway out life, rather than you die in.

  662. This dramatic fashion for Christ. He would rather keep you

  663. from living for Christ.

  664. Because he knows if you live for Christ, then your

  665. children live for Christ. And if they live for Christ,

  666. then their school lives for Christ. And if their school

  667. lives for Christ, then the city starts to get turned

  668. upside down. He is not afraid of a believer who's

  669. willing just to die for Christ. He's afraid of a

  670. believer who says, I'll wake up every day and I'll

  671. live on purpose, and I'll wake up every day and.

  672. I'm gonna share the word of God.

  673. I'll wake up every day and I'm gonna raise kids

  674. to serve him no matter what he's afraid of, someone

  675. who would choose every single day to live.

  676. That. I ain't worried about you dying.

  677. He's trying to keep you from living, keep you from

  678. finding out who you really are.

  679. I'll never forget I spilled that water again.

  680. Jesus, just crash out up here.

  681. WHOA Okay, maybe don't do that next week. Best of Charles.

  682. We gotta just.

  683. There's something powerful that happens when you decide to live today.

  684. I want to give you three ideas, three points on

  685. what it would look like if we decided to live

  686. as if we had nothing to lose, to live as

  687. if you had nothing to lose.

  688. I don't know if you've ever.

  689. Played sports or watch people play sports, but there's always

  690. this moment. And sports happens a lot in the NCAA

  691. tournament where there'll be a number one ranked team and

  692. everybody will assume, oh, this.

  693. Is gonna be a blowout, like this other team ain't

  694. got no chance.

  695. All of a sudden, you look up and first baptist

  696. OASO is playing duke.

  697. You're like, how they up? I'm forty two? What is happening?

  698. It's because one team showed up with nothing to lose.

  699. One team showed up, get this, thinking I.

  700. Shouldn't even be here in the first place.

  701. One team showed up it's a surprise to me that

  702. I even made it. One team showed up knowing who

  703. they really are. One team showed up knowing where everybody

  704. that they from, how their life has went. One team

  705. showed up knowing this is my moment. One team showed

  706. up knowing there might be some people watching that I

  707. don't know who are watching. One team showed up thinking

  708. somehow I made it here, so I'm not gonna make

  709. it here and then not give it everything that I got.

  710. Let me tell you what is true of the believer.

  711. The truth is we shouldn't be here.

  712. The truth is God has made away when nobody else

  713. made away. The truth is, since I'm here, I might

  714. as well live like I got nothing to lose. I

  715. shouldn't be here. You shouldn't be here. Let's be honest

  716. about that. I know we all like to have a

  717. lot of belief in our talent and our ability and

  718. who and what we've done. But the truth is God

  719. has moved mountains to get us here, and now we're

  720. living safe, not to lose, not to make a mistake.

  721. I'll never forget. My dad told me this when I

  722. was playing football.

  723. He said, son, you're gonna get a lot more hurt

  724. if you run trying.

  725. Not to get hit. It's gonna hurt you.

  726. Worse because you're gonna start doing things that aren't natural,

  727. and that's how you'll get hurt.

  728. But you just need to run knowing you're gonna get hit.

  729. Let me tell your friend, you're gonna get hit in life.

  730. I wish I could tell you that Jesus takes away

  731. all the hits and your life is fine.

  732. But it's just not true.

  733. So if you gonna get hit, why don't we at

  734. least try to do something? Why we getting hit? That's

  735. my take, it's my honesty. If I'm gonna go through

  736. hell and I'm gonna get attacked, and I'm gonna have

  737. things go wrong, and I'm gonna have things happen to

  738. me that I don't understand, why would I go through

  739. all that and not at least get something out of it.

  740. Feel like that mean with Denzel Washington, like I'm I'm

  741. leaving here with something.

  742. You hear what I'm saying. Live like you.

  743. Got nothing to lose. The first point very profound and

  744. say that sarcastically. First thing is you gotta do if

  745. you're gonna live like you got nothing to lose.

  746. Number One, write it down.

  747. You gotta tried, and some of us this is the

  748. only step because you've been stuck at start for a

  749. long time because you don't want to try. You don't

  750. want to try to start the business. You don't want

  751. to try to have kids, you don't want to try

  752. to day somebody. You don't want to try to start

  753. the church, or maybe.

  754. You have tried.

  755. And it's taken away your confidence, taking away your courage,

  756. taking away your boldness, and now it feels like to

  757. try anything else is just too much. I can't I

  758. can't try. The truth is you'll never know until you try.

  759. You don't know if the business is gonna fail or

  760. if it's gonna be the next Fortune five hundred company.

  761. Because you haven't tried yet.

  762. You don't know if that person is gonna be the

  763. love of your life or.

  764. Just someone else you dated.

  765. But the truth is you'll never know if you don't try.

  766. Some of you you haven't joined the tribe. You haven't

  767. found your friends. You haven't You had a group of

  768. friends and you lost that group of friends. And the

  769. truth is you're very, very scared to step out again.

  770. Why because what happens if I try and it doesn't work.

  771. What happens if I try and people aren't there?

  772. What happens if I step out and it doesn't happen?

  773. What happens? What happens? What happens? What if? What if?

  774. Just as many what ifs you have on the negative side,

  775. you never there's just as many on the positive side, we.

  776. Never go down this road. What if I start the

  777. business it doesn't work. What if you start the business

  778. and it works way beyond what you thought?

  779. Why, there's just as much evidence, if not more, on

  780. the side of God giving you an idea and it

  781. working than Him giving you one and it not working.

  782. But for some reason, we live our life in the

  783. fear of what happens.

  784. If I try?

  785. Because here's what honest truth is This next point, what

  786. happens if I try?

  787. Point number two is what happens if I try and

  788. I fall. What happens if I try and I fall?

  789. Now, Originally when I wrote these down, the point two

  790. was failed.

  791. But A trains it from.

  792. Fail to fall because it's you either lose or you learn.

  793. You decide, you either fail or you grew. You get

  794. to decide, and we only make things, so buy and

  795. there we only make it.

  796. I'm gonna try and.

  797. It's gonna be the best thing ever, or I'm gonna

  798. try and it's gonna absolutely crumble and fail. And that's

  799. your only two options. I tell you, there's a lot

  800. of growth in between those two options. There's a lot

  801. of steps. There's a lot of progress. There's a lot

  802. of understanding yourself that a lot of figuring things out

  803. in between those. And you get to decide, did you

  804. lose or did you learn? Did you fall on your

  805. face or was it the greatest thing that ever happened

  806. to you because you.

  807. Found out what you were made of?

  808. Was it a failure or did you actually just find out, Wow,

  809. I was doing that for the wrong reasons. You get

  810. to make that decision. It's not the opinion of people.

  811. It's not how much money you made, it's not who

  812. noticed it and who liked your video after you worked

  813. on it, and who put it out. That is not

  814. the determining factor. You decide that. You decide if it

  815. was a failure. You decide what it was. You have

  816. to try, And the truth is, after you try, if're

  817. gonna live like you had nothing to lose, you're gonna fall.

  818. Part of it, You're gonna fall. We were having a

  819. conversation in the car.

  820. And Arlo was talking about that he wants to do

  821. a bike race. He was like, I'm gonna do that

  822. bike race. And I love my son. I'm intentionally trying

  823. to raise confident and content kids, and Arlow has embraced

  824. this to a point where he is extremely confident and

  825. he's getting so confident he's getting weird and I love it,

  826. you know what I'm saying. Like he just wake up

  827. on a Tuesday and he's got a full Spider Man

  828. costume on and then rain boots and he's like, what up, Dad?

  829. Like where you're going? He's like me and Mamma going

  830. to the grocery store. And I'm like, all right, man,

  831. I'll see you. Yeah. He just rolls. That's how he

  832. gets down it. And I was talking to him about this.

  833. He's like, Dad, I'm gonna do that bike race. But

  834. one of these things. He has like an unreasonable.

  835. Level of confidence when it comes to sports and doing stuff,

  836. and he ain't done nothing yet, like has no proven

  837. facts of anything. But he's like, yeah, I could probably

  838. beat them. And I'm like, well, you could beat them

  839. if you practice. That's my fatement to him now, like

  840. you can definitely do it if you practice at it.

  841. But he was talking about a bike race, He's like, yeah,

  842. I could definitely beat those guys.

  843. Meanwhile he's talking about grown men in the Tour of France.

  844. He's like, yeah, I could definitely beat them. Luna goes,

  845. but all of you getting the bike crash, you could

  846. fall and immediately I said Luna. I said, Luna, you

  847. can fall doing anything in life. She's like, what do

  848. you mean, Dad, I said, Rosie, anything you're ever gonna do,

  849. there's a chance you could get hurt, there's a chance it.

  850. Could not go well. So the truth is you just

  851. got to decide if you like something, you just gotta

  852. try it.

  853. And the truth is many of us, that's the conversation in.

  854. Our head, crazy outrageous dream.

  855. Five year old talking about I'm gonna go to the

  856. Tour de France. Then another voice in your head says,

  857. but what happens if you fall? And that's where the

  858. conversation stops. What if I start this and it's amazing.

  859. Oh my gosh, I feel like I heard God. I

  860. feel like he speaks to me.

  861. Oh my gosh, I think he's providing while there's this miracle.

  862. Somebody confirmed it with me. Oh my gosh, I'm gonna

  863. do it. Yeah, but what if it doesn't work? Oh yeah,

  864. you're right. Who am I kidding? I'm not nobody.

  865. And you talk yourself out of what God's given you.

  866. But here's the beauty of living like you have nothing

  867. to lose. And I'm gonna close with this. You try,

  868. you fall, and there's this miraculous thing that happens.

  869. You try again.

  870. But I wrote this very long, non rhyming sentence at

  871. the end of to watch this. You try again, but

  872. this time use the courage you got from falling to

  873. get back up.

  874. Here's what I mean by that statement.

  875. When you try again, there is a courage that is

  876. birthed in you that you didn't have when you tried

  877. the first time. And many of us let this little

  878. sliver of hope go overlooked. What happens is you try,

  879. you fall, you find the bravery to get back up again,

  880. to try again. And what you don't realize is you're

  881. not the same person that tried the first time. You're

  882. a completely different person because you know what it is

  883. to go through a hard time. You know what it

  884. is to work on the vision, you know what it

  885. is to lay it out in front of people. You

  886. know what it is to try and it not to

  887. work and you to get back up again.

  888. What am I saying?

  889. You are a different person because you went through it.

  890. There's something birthed on the inside of you. But the

  891. enemy does not want you to know that, so he

  892. makes you think you are the same person that tried

  893. over here and it did not work, that you are

  894. over here. But let me tell you something, you are

  895. not the same person. God has done something on the

  896. inside of you. He's created some beauty on the inside

  897. of you.

  898. There's something different here. You've got something else. You just

  899. don't know it yet.

  900. You're not the same person that tried and failed the

  901. first time. There's a beauty, there's a courage, there's a

  902. boldness that is birthed when you get back up again.

  903. And I want to encourage some people today who have.

  904. Been living your life worried to try again. You've been

  905. worried to go back for it again. I'm telling you

  906. you're somebody different. You haven't tried yet, but you're not

  907. the same person. God did something on the inside of you.

  908. You may not be able to recognize that, you may

  909. not realize it, but there's a beauty you can find

  910. if you'll live like you have nothing to lose. I've

  911. been thinking a lot about the Bible and these scriptures,

  912. and I'm gonna read to you a scripture out of

  913. Acts five, and we're gonna go home today. But in

  914. Acts chapter five there is a beautiful section of scripture.

  915. And this is kind of where the subtitle for my

  916. book came. And the subtitle of the book God.

  917. Chose Me is Untouchable Confidence for the unstoppable Christian and

  918. it comes out of this section of story and team

  919. and band.

  920. I know I've said I'm gonna close. I'm really about

  921. to close, So if.

  922. Y'all want to come up here, Acts chapter five, Verse

  923. twenty nine, Peter said we must obey God rather than

  924. human authority.

  925. The God of our ancestors raised.

  926. Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging

  927. him on the cross. Then God put him in the

  928. place of honor at the right hand. We are witnesses

  929. of these things. So is the Holy Spirit, who is

  930. given by God to those who obey him. When they

  931. heard this, the High Council was furious. They decided to

  932. kill him. But one member, a pharisee named Gamaliel, who

  933. was an expert in the religious law and respected by

  934. all the people, stood up and ordered that the men

  935. be sent outside of the council.

  936. Then they said to his colleagues, men of Israel, take

  937. care of what you are planning to do to these men.

  938. Some time ago there.

  939. Was a fellow Thaddeus, who pretended to be somebody. About

  940. four hundred joined him. They went in various ways. After

  941. he died, the whole movement came to nothing. After him,

  942. there was a guy named Judas of Galilee. He got

  943. a couple people to follow him, but he was killed

  944. two and all his followers were scattered. So my advice

  945. is leave these men alone.

  946. Let them go. If they are planning and.

  947. Doing these things on their own will, it will soon

  948. be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will

  949. not be able to stop these men, and you may

  950. even find yourself fighting against God himself. You need to

  951. know that you come from a lineage of an unstoppable movement.

  952. A little baby was born two years old. They tried

  953. to kill him, couldn't stop the movement. The boy gets

  954. lost when he's twelve years old. Found him. They couldn't

  955. stop the movement. Thirty years old. Pharisees tried to trap

  956. him in thousands of questions, and they couldn't stop the movement.

  957. They killed him when he was thirty three years old.

  958. Thought he was dead, couldn't stop the movement, killed all

  959. his friends, started crucifying him upside down. Couldn't stop the movement.

  960. Started feeding Christians.

  961. To the lions, but they couldn't stop the movement. Sent

  962. the church underground, but they couldn't stop the movement. Tried

  963. to pass laws so the church couldn't do what the

  964. church did, but they could never stop the movement. What

  965. you don't realize is the idea He's given you cannot

  966. be stopped.

  967. The question is will it ever be started? Devil can't

  968. stop it, but he can't keep you from starting because

  969. that's the only thing he's got. He knows once you

  970. start that God has been standing outside of time because

  971. he was creating time, and he looked at time and

  972. he placed you in time, so at.

  973. The right time, you be on time for his appointed time.

  974. He knows that there's a plan he has to prosper you,

  975. to bring you a hope and a future. He knows

  976. that once you get with that person and you find

  977. your peace and you find your courage, that you will

  978. end up where you're supposed to. He knows that what

  979. he's hoping on is that you will never.

  980. Find the courage.

  981. To start, never find the courage to try, never find

  982. the courage to.

  983. Figure out who you really are. I'll never forget.

  984. I grew up listening to preaching tapes with my dad.

  985. There's an old sermon TDJS preach one time, and he said,

  986. I didn't know I was me. He said, for a

  987. long time, I didn't know I was me. If I

  988. knew I was me, I would have lived my life different.

  989. If I knew what I knew now, I wouldn't have

  990. spend so much time being insecure. You know what, people,

  991. I had this conversation with a friend I was talking

  992. to him and he said they did an interview with

  993. people who were at the end of their life, and

  994. they were asking them, what are your greatest regrets?

  995. And none of them said their regrets was the stuff

  996. they tried.

  997. And failed, none of them. All of them said, and

  998. it's all the stuff I never tried. Because I'm sitting

  999. here and I don't know what could have happened. I

1000. hope for everybody in this room and under the sound

1001. of my voice is that whatever it is you feel

1002. like God's given you, you just have the courage to

1003. try because you have no idea what God.

  1004. Wants to do.

1005. You have no idea who you could become. I was

1006. talking to somebody and they were like, man, tell us,

1007. how did you get into ministry? And you got here

1008. in your transformation church, and you wrote a book, and

1009. tell us about the moment when God called you and

  1010. spoke to you that.

1011. You were going to be a ministry and do this.

1012. And I was like, oh, yeah, I never I never

  1013. really had that moment.

1014. You'd like, what do you mean.

1015. I was like, I was just serving in the youth ministry,

1016. leading a group of six grade boys, and then the

1017. group doubled like three times, and somebody asked me, Hey,

1018. do you want to serve in a bigger servant road

  1019. And I.

1020. Was like yeah, sure, And then they asked me do

1021. you want to interview him to be an associate youth

1022. pastor and I was like okay, yeah.

1023. It was all these little steps of just trying, you know,

  1024. how I wrote a book.

  1025. I tried. I didn't know it was good.

1026. I remember send it to the first person who had

1027. read the whole thing, like it was the first person,

  1028. and I was.

1029. Like, this supposed to be a call to get my

  1030. first feedback call.

1031. And I was like, oh gosh, this is gonna be

1032. so bad. And then open up the zoom and the

1033. lady is crying and I'm like, dang, it must have

  1034. been really bad.

1035. She's like, we're gonna need everything back. You know, I

  1036. didn't know.

  1037. I didn't know if I was an author until I

  1038. started writing.

1039. I found out about halfway through the book.

1040. And what I want to say to you is, you

1041. will have no idea who you could be until you start.

1042. God, we thank you for who you are. God, to

1043. thank you for your love, for your grace, or your peace,

1044. for your mercy. Now right now, God, I pray.

1045. I want to pray right now, specific prayer for everyone

1046. who has been afraid to try, afraid to try, whatever

1047. it is, a small thing, a big thing. People have

1048. been afraid to trust themselves, to trust their ideas. Right now, God,

1049. would you just your peace, your comfort.

1050. Right now? Would you comfort them.

1051. Right now, Holy Spirit, I'm praying that you would specifically

1052. impart the boldness and the courage from the early Apostles.

  1053. Boldness and courage.

1054. Holy Spirit, right now, in the name of Jesus, would

1055. you impart boldness and courage to take you at your word,

1056. Boldness and courage to speak loudly the truth of the Gospel.

1057. Boldness and courage to be who God created you? Would

1058. be boldness and courage in the name of Jesus. God,

1059. I pray that you would this week inspire and encourage

1060. people to start the thing they've been waiting to start.

1061. This week, to create habits, to become the person they

1062. want to become this week, something to.

1063. Be different in their life. Bow every eye close.

1064. I want to take a moment and extended invitation to

1065. anybody who would like to surrender their life to Jesus.

1066. The message of the Gospel is there was a man

1067. named Jesus, and he lived a perfect life, the life

1068. that we're all aspiring to. He lived it, he did it,

1069. and then he willingly gave up that life for you

1070. and for me. He did that so we would have

1071. a picture, as Hebrew said, of someone who overcame the

1072. greatest fear. The Jesus robbed death of his power when

1073. he rose from the grave. And by rising from that

1074. tomb and walking out of that tomb, he proved to.

1075. Be and you that there is more to life than

1076. what in front of us.

1077. And he extends to you an invitation into a life

1078. of peace, a life of joy, a life of purpose,

1079. a life of contentment, a life of boldness.

1080. But all it takes is a moment of surrender.

1081. The Bible says, is if you believe in your heart

1082. and confess with your mouth that you shall be saved.

1083. If you're in this room and you want to accept

1084. Jesus Christ as your lord and.

1085. Save you're what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna count to three.

1086. If you're in the room or watching online, I'm gonna

1087. ask you to raise your hand. Even if you're watching online,

1088. you're like, hey, I'm sitting by myself.

  1089. It doesn't matter.

1090. When you raise your hand on the outside, it is

1091. you showing you and everybody around you that something is happening.

1092. And I want to claim it and I want to

1093. step into this new relationship with Jesus.

  1094. He loves you.

1095. He has a plan for you. But your life can

1096. change today. It doesn't fix all your problems, it doesn't

1097. make life easy. But what it does do is it

1098. provides you hope from a source that you will not

  1099. find anywhere else.

1100. If you would like to give your life to Jesus,

1101. I'm gonna count to three. I want you to raise

1102. your hand boldly in this room. Some of you. This

1103. is why you are here. You can feel it. You think,

1104. is that me? Is it me? Is it me? Yes?

  1105. It is you.

1106. Do not let anything hold you back from this moment

1107. of surrender, this moment of transformation. On the count of three,

1108. if you want to give your life to Jesus, I

1109. want you to raise your hand one. He loves you too.

1110. Today is the day of salvation. Three right now, all

1111. over this room, raise your hand. So proud of you.

1112. I see you, sister, so proud of you. I got

1113. you man, I see you girl, so proud of you

1114. up here in the balcony.

1115. I got you way in the back. I see my

1116. sister right here. Come on both hands. I see you

1117. a couple back here in the corner.

1118. So incredible. I got you, amazing, amazing. I see y'all,

1119. I see y'all. Hey, listen out loud together as a family.

1120. Everybody which you pray this prayer with me, say, dear God,

1121. I admit I've made mistakes. I pray you would save me,

1122. that you would change me, that you would make me

1123. new in Jesus name. I pray.

  1124. Amen.

1125. Hey, can we celebrate everyone who just gave their life

1126. to Jesus' best decision you could ever make.

1127. Hey, listen standing all over this room. We're about to

  1128. get out of here.

1129. Hey, our worship team is going to continue to worship.

1135. them you made that choice.
