-
Before we read any scripture, I want you to get your bulletin out.
-
I printed something for you this week because I wanted you to know, as we've been talking about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy.
-
We covered that about three or four weeks ago.
-
If you did not get that CD, get it.
-
Matter of fact, get the whole series.
-
Matter of fact, you can download it for free at your house.
-
We put everything on the internet so that you can share it.
-
But one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy, and prophecy is designed to encourage you, to tell you about things that are coming so that you will be ready and excited about what God is doing.
-
We had a prophecy over the church many months ago before most of you were here.
-
And I want you to take this.
-
The reason I printed it for you is because I want you to take it home.
-
I want you to put it in your prophecy drawer.
-
I have one in my house, and when I need a little encouragement, I pull them out and I read them.
-
And they're very encouraged.
-
They lift me up and they help me.
-
See, that's a gift of the Holy Spirit.
-
He wants to do that for you.
-
So a prophecy to Gateway Church by Wayne Grain.
-
Prophecy is a gift of who?
-
That's a test half of you failed.
-
Prophecy is a gift of who?
-
So who's actually speaking?
-
So we can receive the words of the Holy Spirit for today.
-
Okay, we're going to get something out of the scripture that he wrote a couple thousand years ago, but this is a couple years ago.
-
Okay?
-
So the Holy Spirit's speaking.
-
Here we go.
-
Gateway church is called to be a voice, not an echo, to this region.
-
From your foundations, I have called you to be a prophetic voice, proclaiming my now word to the body of Christ in this area.
-
I am calling you to be a prophetic voice, calling the lost, the lonely, the hungry, and the broken to come to my banqueting table and eat.
-
Doesn't that sound just like Jesus?
-
It does.
-
For this will be a place where spiritual food and drink will be generously gathered in and given out.
-
Common national, international leads will come to this place and offer their gifts.
-
And the nobodies, the nothings, and the no-names will come to prominence here.
-
For this will be a place where disciples are made and sent out.
-
The church will be a gathering and ascending place.
-
The Lord is doing something new among you.
-
Don't model yourself after all patterns.
-
Don't chase after new models you see.
-
Seek me and I will show you the pattern and the model I choose to release through you.
-
Don't chase after promotion.
-
Don't chase after the media.
-
For promotion doesn't come from the East or the West.
-
Promotion comes from the Lord.
-
Know this.
-
Promotion will come.
-
The media will come.
-
And I will communicate through your message, your music, and my miracles.
-
Did you hear the Holy Spirit say he has miracles?
-
For this will be a place where the message, the music, and the miracles will combine to let the world know that there is a God who is alive and on the moon.
-
I'm going to stop right there.
-
I want you to take the rest and read it home.
-
If I catch you reading it here, I'll have to point you out and embarrass you.
-
I wouldn't.
-
I want you to take that prophecy home, but I want this is I've longed to be a part of a church that wants to show that God is not dead, that he's alive and on the move, and that there's nothing you see or faith in life he cannot handle.
-
HIV does not scare him.
-
The dead men do not scare him.
-
And I want to be of a part of a church, and I want you to understand something.
-
This was given to the church.
-
We're not a platform church.
-
We're not a spectator church.
-
We're a participatory church.
-
This prophecy was given to you.
-
And if that's your heart's desire to be a part of a place where you can move in the gifts of the Spirit, you're in the right place.
-
If you desire to spectate, you're in the wrong place.
-
There's a lot of other spectator churches around.
-
We're not going to be one of those.
-
We're going to be a participator.
-
God has equipped you with gifts.
-
The Holy Spirit has anointed you.
-
The Spirit of the Lord is upon you.
-
And I want to call today for you to let him come out.
-
That's his word to us.
-
He's not dead.
-
I'm going to tell you something.
-
There's a myth among us.
-
The Holy Spirit is no longer acting like he used to act.
-
He's left and sent his cousin or something.
-
He's the same as he was when he came on Jesus.
-
He's the same as he was when he started the church.
-
He's the same today.
-
And he's looking for vessels that he can use.
-
And I'm going to show you the keys to stay.
-
How to unlock his power.
-
Because he's not changed.
-
And he's willing and ready.
-
But he holds back until he sees a vessel that he can pour himself through.
-
And when he sees, maybe he'll be all over it.
-
I want you to see that in scripture today.
-
Okay?
-
Go to John chapter 14, once you see what the words of Jesus are.
John 14 chapter mention
-
That was the words of the Holy Spirit to the church.
-
I want you to hear the words of Jesus to every believer.
-
John chapter 14, verse 12.
-
Robert read this verse last week.
-
Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me the works, say the works that I do, he will do also greater works than these will he do, because I go to my Father.
-
When he went to the Father, who did he send?
-
Holy Spirit.
-
Now, is this this isn't read in your Bible as it is in mine?
-
Both letters read.
-
Is Jesus the man that he can lie?
-
Can the Holy Spirit lie?
-
So we're the miracles.
-
We're the miracles.
-
No question we have a message in this pulpit that's like none other.
-
I I've been in churches for 40 years.
-
I don't know if I went when I was one year old, but I'm 41 now.
-
I've been in church for a long time.
-
I've not heard messages like come out of this pulpit.
-
I mean he had our pastor has a gift that's a pure gift from the Holy Spirit.
-
It's it's good.
-
It makes me nervous to have a following.
-
You don't know what kind of music's coming out of this place.
-
It's already been written now.
-
There's music already stirring, there's CDs already stirring.
-
This is going to be a house where there's a message.
-
There already is a message.
-
There already is music.
-
I want to know, Holy Spirit, where the miracles.
-
That's what I want to say.
-
I've longed my whole life to read.
-
I read this book and I see what he does, and I want to know where the miracles are.
-
Holy Spirit said, if you want to know where the miracles are, if you want to know where the keys are, go back to where they started.
-
So I want you to turn to Luke chapter 4.
Luke 4 chapter mention
-
I want you to look where the miracles started.
-
And we'll find some keys here that will help us unlock the miraculous.
-
I long to see the dead rise.
-
Smith Wigglesworth did something I love.
-
I've been reading books by Smith Wigelsworth, John G.
-
Lake, and uh John Alexander Dowie guys that moved to the 1800s, early 1900s.
-
I've been reading about William Brandon up to the 1950s when the Holy Spirit they went in and cleaned out west wings of hospitals.
-
And one day they cleared out the whole hospital.
-
I long for that kind of doesn't, I mean that's 60 years ago, 50, 40, 30 years ago.
-
Where's the power today?
-
I'm not satisfied till I see the power.
-
I was reading by Smith Willsworth.
-
He had a neighbor that he kept witnessing to, witnessing to, witnessing to.
-
The neighbor said, I don't want it.
-
I don't want it.
-
I don't want it.
-
But okay, the neighbor died.
-
And Smith started over to his house, and Smith's wife looked at him and said, Smith, said, Be quiet, woman.
-
She said, You cannot raise him from the dead.
-
She said, Yes, I am.
-
Went right into his neighbor's house.
-
He was laying there, walked into the house and said, Get up! And he did.
-
He said, now, you're going to accept Jesus or not?
-
And he did.
-
That's power.
-
Has that power gone away?
-
Was it for one particular man?
-
No.
-
Holy Spirit shows no partiality.
-
God shows no partiality.
-
So where's the power?
-
I'm going to show you.
-
Where you get the power.
-
Look at Luke chapter 4, verse 1.
-
Jesus then being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.
-
I'm going to stop right there and I want you to look at a couple words.
-
Jesus returned from the Jordan River, right?
-
He was just baptized.
-
Is that correct?
-
If you go back to Luke chapter 3, we won't.
Luke 3 chapter mention
-
We don't take the time for it.
-
He was baptized solely, immersed underwater, got his hair wet and everything, came back up top.
-
Can I ask you a question about this?
-
Why did the Son of God need to be baptized?
-
Didn't He need remission of sins?
-
No?
-
Then why was he baptized?
-
Isn't he our example?
-
Isn't He the one that we're to look through how to live?
-
WWJD, what would Jesus do?
-
Isn't that the theme?
-
I'm going to change that for you today.
-
It's going to be WWHS.
-
What would the Holy Spirit do?
-
Because Jesus was our example, but he was filled by who?
-
He was filled by who?
-
Why would the Son of God need the Holy Spirit?
-
Does your mind work like mine?
-
Because I think like this.
-
Jesus did all the miracles that he did, all the signs and wonders because he was the Son of God.
-
I mean, we just finished the nine supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit.
-
He operated in all nine.
-
Words of knowledge, words of wisdom, words of prophecy.
-
He he operated in miracles and gifts and healings and faith.
-
And he he operated in them all.
-
Where did he get those?
-
They're the Holy Spirit, aren't they?
-
Do you see in your Bible in Luke chapter 4 verse 1 where it says Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit?
-
He's our example.
-
If you're ever going to move in the power of God, you're going to have to be filled with the power of God.
-
And the power of God is the Holy Spirit.
-
Now I want to shake your theology a little bit this morning, okay?
-
Because we've got this mentality that once we're filled, it's enough.
-
Okay?
-
I want to shake it a little bit.
-
Look at Acts chapter 2.
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
Remember when Jesus told his disciples, he said, because I was filled, I can tell you to go be filled.
-
Wait in Jerusalem.
-
He didn't tell them how long.
-
Now this bothers me sometimes when I read scriptures like this.
-
He says, wait in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes upon you.
-
Now he said it because he'd already demonstrated it to them.
-
Okay?
-
Because he was filled with the Holy Spirit.
-
And then he says, wait.
-
Now he didn't tell them how long, did he?
-
You know they waited ten days.
-
Now this is how my I got a weird one.
-
I'm sorry, just the way it worked.
-
There's 120 in the upper room.
-
How many bathrooms do they have?
-
Who's cooked and clean?
-
Where were all the children?
-
You see, we we we flippantly just read past that.
-
They got filled with the Holy Spirit.
-
Wasn't that wonderful?
-
You know they had to wait ten days if the Jesus would have told me to go wait ten, go wait, go wait, and then I think, and you know, he ain't coming in.
-
It's been an hour.
-
What's he waiting on?
-
My gosh, it's been it's been three it's been three hours.
-
We're really an instant society, aren't we?
-
We want it right now.
-
We're not willing to wait.
-
They waited ten days in the upper room while they with no facilities.
-
Would you have gone home?
-
They didn't.
-
Look at Acts chapter two.
-
What's happened?
-
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit because they obeyed the word of God and they began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utters.
-
Can you say all?
-
Not just the twelve?
-
All 120.
-
Okay?
-
Got that?
-
Now this one shake your theology.
-
Look at Acts chapter 4, verse 31.
-
You remember when Peter and John went to the temple and they raised the lame man up?
-
He was he was there at the porch begging.
-
He said, Silver and gold have I none.
-
What I do have I give to you.
-
And he raised him up and he did a little leap in this in the sanctuary.
-
You know, one is very uncommon for you anybody to leap in the sanctuary in those days.
-
But he left!
-
And he got excited!
-
Oh my gosh! Unlike what you would do, I'm sure.
-
If you've never walked.
-
He got excited.
-
Well, his excitement got the brothers in trouble.
-
You know what?
-
I like being in trouble with Jesus.
-
I'm looking for trouble with Jesus.
-
Because with trouble comes power.
-
They came back after being released from being in trouble and told the whole group what the trouble was about.
-
And they got together and they said, Let's pray for more.
-
Got that?
-
That's where we pick it up.
-
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken.
-
And they were all uh uh Peter and John had already been filled, hadn't they?
-
Hello?
-
Hadn't Peter and John already been filled?
-
How does it say they were all filled with the Holy Spirit?
-
Luke chapter 4, verse 1, when you read this word Jesus was filled, it meant he was full.
-
He was full of the Holy Spirit.
-
I want to tell you there's a difference between once filled and being full.
-
I'm convinced today we've never seen a man who's full of the Holy Spirit.
-
But I want to tell you this, every one of us in this room today can be filled full of the Holy Spirit.
-
And I improve it.
-
Go to Acts chapter uh six.
-
This is the pre prerequisite to be a deacon in the church of the first church.
-
Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men, good faith, full of reputation, good reputation, and full, full of the Holy Spirit.
-
Not once filled, full of the Holy Spirit.
-
Okay?
-
Acts 6.5.
-
They choose seven men and they say, man, this is a good thing.
-
The whole congregation likes it.
-
And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit.
-
And then he named the rest of the deacons.
-
You see Stephen was full of the Holy Spirit.
-
Did you say he was once filled or did you say he was full?
-
Are y'all awake?
-
Is there a difference between once filled and being full?
-
Okay, watch this.
-
Stephen had his death.
-
He preaches a great sermon.
-
He preaches a great sermon.
-
And then they don't like it.
-
And they pick up rocks and start throwing 90 mile-an-hour fastballs at his body.
-
And Jesus being full, not only in the beginning, but at the end, he was still full.
-
Full of the Holy Spirit.
-
Gazed into heaven, saw the glory of God, and Jesus stands at the right hand of God.
-
Smith Webersworth says this about being filled with the Spirit.
-
He says, Well, you pour out self and you get filled up with the presence and the power of God.
-
Until you're willing to pour out self, you cannot be filled up.
-
You see, I'm I'm convinced we're trying to mix flesh with spirit.
-
We want to keep our flesh, but we want a little more of the spirit.
-
And we want to keep a balance so that we don't look too weird.
-
And I'm telling this, when you lose the flesh, you can be full.
-
You know how I know you can be full?
-
Because I see it in scripture.
-
I see it before I see this scripture.
-
When Jesus went to the mount of a transfiguration, you remember that day?
-
Took three of his disciples, Moses and Elijah showed up.
-
Boys got a little scared spitless over there.
-
Remember that part?
-
They were shaking and trembling a little bit.
-
Did we build temples for all three of these guys?
-
What do we do?
-
I don't know what to do.
-
This is scared of us, Jesus.
-
We've never seen anything like this.
-
Wouldn't you act a little bit like that if you saw all of a sudden his body begin to glow, rays of light begin to shoot out?
-
It made me a little nervous.
-
I might bite my fingernails.
-
Could it possibly be, I now listen, I'm not trying to create a new doctrine, but could it possibly be?
-
I understand that he was demonstrating he was a son of God, and I understand that he was fulfilling prophecy and all those things.
-
I'm not debating any of that.
-
Could it possibly be that he was trying to show you that this flesh man, he was all God, but he was all man, that this flesh man can contain the fullness of God?
-
So much that it's so full that it shoots out of your body into your clothing.
-
If it goes into your clothing and it can be impartated in your clothing, you remember when the woman walked by and touched the hem of his garment?
-
He was so full of the Holy Spirit, it went into his clothes.
-
He was so full that his shadow, his shadow could pass by a person and then get up.
-
Not just with Jesus, it happened with Peter.
-
He's walking by his shadow said somebody goes, Oh, you want a moment?
-
How about you?
-
You want something?
-
How about you?
-
I know it's the spirit because the spirit came on Jesus.
-
He actually didn't know in Jesus and he did the same thing in Peter.
-
Paul said, I'm so full that I can watch the night as well of the Bible and handicaps and everything, and then we put it on sick people and then they get up.
-
That's full.
-
I'm convinced today we don't know anything about being full.
-
We work for a one-time experience where we wait for a little power and then we say we got it.
-
And we go home and we let our flesh go rampant.
-
If you want the miracles of God, you don't have to be full.
-
It's so full that it comes out of your being.
-
And everywhere you go, people are touched.
-
Gordon Lindsay was so full.
-
He went in his room, he prayed in the spirit in a hotel.
-
He prayed in the spirit for hours.
-
He left to go do business, came in, the maid walked in to clean the room, she hit the floor and got saved just like that from the presence of God.
-
Folks, we don't know anything about being full.
-
I've never seen a man in full, but I'm telling you one, man.
-
I'm pursuing it with all my heart.
-
I want to be full.
-
I'm tired of playing church.
-
I want to be the church.
-
I want the Holy Spirit to use this vessel.
-
If Jesus had to be full to perform a miracle, then I want to be full just like Jesus.
-
Now I'm gonna ask you a question.
-
How many miracles did Jesus do before he was filled with the Holy Spirit?
-
How many recorded in scripture?
-
It's the plan of the Father.
-
He got in the will of the Father, and he got in the plan and said, I'm here to glorify the Father, and I'm gonna go by his plan.
-
It's not about me.
-
It's about him.
-
And what he did, miracles began to happen.
-
Okay, go back to Luke chapter 4, verse 1.
-
Key number one, and Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit.
-
Key number two, what's this?
-
Then Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit.
-
Uh-oh.
-
We don't like that.
-
Jesus was led by the Spirit.
-
He was led by the Spirit.
-
We don't like being led.
-
We smart people.
-
We like to do what we want to do when we want to do it.
-
See, the disciples were just goofy enough to believe that when he said, go wait, they nine days or what?
-
He said, wait, we're waiting.
-
Tenth day, power.
-
He said, see, I told you, you're not a liar.
-
See, they believe Jesus was a man that can't lie.
-
We read Luke or John chapter 14 and say, you'll do the work, the works that I do.
John 14 chapter mention
-
Yeah, sure we will.
-
We ain't seen that in about 40, 50 years.
-
I'm just crazy enough to believe when he said he's not a man who's a lie.
-
But you've got to be willing to be led by the Spirit.
-
You've got to be willing to be led by the Spirit.
-
I was praying two weeks ago.
-
I took a couple of days off just to get refreshed a little bit.
-
And I was in my own personal time in the morning, and I was just praying.
-
I was actually playing golf that afternoon.
-
I was asking him to kind of help me in my golf game because it wasn't very good.
-
And uh I was actually just talking to the Holy Spirit.
-
We've been in this series and I've been talking to the Holy Spirit like crazy.
-
And I mean I just I love the Holy Spirit.
-
I have a reverence for the Holy Spirit like I've never had before.
-
And I was just asking him that morning, man, can you can you help me out in my golf game and bless the guys I'm gonna be with and bless my children?
-
And uh you know, I'm going through all the blessing things.
-
And the Holy Spirit stopped me and said, Can I ask you a question?
-
I said, Well, okay.
-
He said, Why don't you ask me what I want to do today?
-
I realize in forty-one years I've never asked the Holy Spirit one time what he wants to do today.
-
You know he has a will and a plan from the Father.
-
He's not flipping.
-
He's not flaky, he's not a freak.
-
He has a will and a plan from the Father that he wants to release on the earth that he can't release it until he has a vessel.
-
And he's looking for a vessel that he can flow it through.
-
And if you're one of the parts of being a vessel, you've got to be willing to be led by him.
-
You've got to be willing to be full of him, but you've got to be willing to be led by him.
-
And when you are, watch out.
-
You're a candidate for the power to flow.
-
I'm going to ask you a question.
-
Where did he lead Jesus first?
-
Wilderness.
-
I did not understand that.
-
But the beauty about the Holy Spirit is when you don't understand something, you get to asking.
-
So I said to the Holy Spirit, why?
-
It doesn't make sense to me.
-
I understand the field part.
-
I understand the leading part.
-
I just don't understand that you're taking him to the wilderness first.
-
I'm missing that part.
-
This is key number three.
-
Key number two is you've got to be loved.
-
Key number three is you've got to go to the wilderness first.
-
And watch what the Holy Spirit said to me.
-
Why did you lead Jesus to the wilderness?
-
And the Holy Spirit said to me because if you can't defeat Satan in your private life, you will never defeat him in your public life.
-
I said that makes sense to me.
-
Jesus had to go face Satan alone and defeat him privately because Satan would be throwing things publicly at him constantly.
-
What are you going to do when they bring a woman caught in adultery sin in your presence?
-
And say she ought to be stoned.
-
He brought all kinds of things.
-
What are you going to do when a demoniac runs out of the mountain like a crazy wild man naked, cutting himself all over and he's running right at you?
-
You better not have known how to defeat Satan privately before you try to defeat him publicly.
-
Is that correct?
-
So how did Jesus defeat Satan privately?
-
This will be key number three.
-
Well let's pick it up verse two saying Jesus being tempted for 40 days by the devil in those days he ate nothing.
-
And afterward when he had ended he was hungry.
-
Forty days wouldn't you be hungry?
-
I'd be hungry too.
-
I'd be hungry after the first ten minutes.
-
And then verse three the devil said to Jesus if you are the Son of God command this stone to become bread.
-
Then the devil always cast it out.
-
In this one of his tricks now most read about three tricks he only has three he only needs three because they work and if you'll learn to defeat the devil privately in these three areas you will be victorious publicly.
-
Watch.
-
He said to you're hungry I know you're hungry you didn't eat in 40 days once you turn that stone right there to bread.
-
Now Jesus is pretty good at making bread right he proved that lady with 4000 and 5000 He's pretty good at making bread.
-
How did Jesus respond back?
-
He said it is written man shall not live by what?
-
Bread alone but by every word from God Who wrote the book he inspired who who inspired men to write the book?
-
So the third key is that you're going to have to speak what the Holy Spirit tells you to speak.
-
I can see Jesus when he's here the temptation he looks over here Jesus looks over the Holy Spirit and says what do I say to that?
-
He said well I I've written this book and it carries the Bible says it's like a two-edged sword being able to divide the spirit and the soul powerful.
-
Uh huh says quote quote the scripture you know why you'd be defeating privately you're not asking the Holy Spirit what to say you have to ask the Holy Spirit what to say when the devil tempts you in the appetites of your flesh.
-
Is this not an appetite of his flesh?
-
He's got an appetite of his flesh that's being being tempted why don't you turn that stone to bread I know you're the Son of God I know you can make bread.
-
I mean I've I've been around daddy before daddy's very powerful and he don't send his son to them and the Holy Spirit's going I know you make bread.
-
You know he would not do with his own flesh he would not feed his own flesh bread but he would make it for others.
-
Because he didn't come to be about him.
-
He came for others.
-
If you've got an appetite of your flesh that's out of kilter do you know you can ask the Holy Spirit today and he will give you revelation in the word and set you free.
-
He wants you to be free.
-
He wants you to feed Satan privately so that you can defeat him publicly and he wants to do that through the word.
-
He'll illuminate the word over and over there's uh John Alexander Dowley was in uh Auckland uh Australia and uh he had a disease sweep through his uh little church and uh the the whole town of Auckland and people were dying left and right and he was killing babies as well as old people and the mill everybody in between people were dying they were doing mass grades mass services for for people passing away he had 40 people in this church die and he goes into his little study saying God where's the power where's the power I need the power God where's the power all of a sudden the Holy Spirit speaks to him Acts 10 38 and that scripture says Jesus went about doing good healing all who were sick and oppressed by the devil and all of a sudden it boom it exploded in his spirit and when it exploded in his spirit he got a revelation beyond revelation and he grabbed onto it and as soon as he got it knocked came to his door a little girl standing there said Mary she's dying she's a little eight year old girl she's dying you've got to come and John Alexander Dowley runs to Mary's house and he walks in full faith full of the new word from the spirit his mother's Mary's little mother's there and she's crying and the doctor's there and the doctor slides over and he's trying to get an assessment of the situation the doctor leans over to Dr.
-
Dowley and says God acts in strange ways doesn't he faith in John Alexander Dow he looked over the doctor and said you think this is God?
-
This is not God.
-
This is the devil And I'm about to pray the prayer of faith either you're going to join me or you're going to leave he left John Alexander Dyer walked over to little Mary little eight year old laid his hands on her and commanded that sickness come off her and that she be healed in the name of Jesus And her body went up and her mother began to weep She's dead she's dead and I said no she's not dead if he was home.
-
Get her something to eat and drink quickly and ran in the kitchen got that body back he snapped his fingers over the man and she heard Well Pastor how long have you been here?
-
The revelation of God's word is high and it will help you face whatever you're facing.
-
And the mother began to weep over Mary and Jesus cried I got two poor boys in the next room and they're dying too can you help them?
-
I don't think so it's just for Mary He went in the next room two sons lived not another person in his church died.
-
And people all over the city died.
-
That's how healing started in John Dalvin Revelation from God's word.
-
What's the next temptation?
-
Verse 5 Then the devil took Jesus up on the high mountain showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment in a flash and then the devil said in verse 6 all this authority I will give you their glory all this their glory for their this has been delivered to me and I will give it to whomever I wish therefore if you worship before me all will be yours.
-
What do you think Jesus did?
-
Holy Spirit what do you want to say?
-
He said well why don't you go and get behind you.
-
Okay.
-
Get behind me Satan for it is written you shall worship the Lord your God and him only and then you shall serve him only I said to the Lord Lord I understand about that type of the flesh and I really appreciate that because that that helps me a lot but you know what I don't understand about this worship thing because I worship you with all my heart.
-
I I don't stand how this is a temptation.
-
He said well Jeff from day one Satan's always trying to get anybody to worship anything besides God.
-
Whether it's your checkbook or your house or your cars or other things he said you remember a couple months ago when I've been squeezing things out of your heart and I'm going to tell you for two and a half years that I've been here at Gateway Church, the Holy Spirit has been squeezing things.
-
All of a sudden insecurities have been coming up I'm like man where is all this stuff coming from and I and they they keep surfacing and and more and more and I work interaction with them and the Spirit keeps saying man what is in there?
-
I said man I don't know but I don't like it.
-
And it keeps coming to the top and he keeps revealing it I'm like man I've never been insecure my whole life I mean I had five six older older siblings four older brothers that beat the tar I mean I should have been just just tough but all of a sudden I'm feeling weak.
-
I'm feeling insecure and I'm feeling fear and one day the Holy Spirit said to me there was a tape at my house called Freedom from fear by Jimmy Evans.
-
And I said you know I've never really think I dealt with fear but I I think the Holy Spirit wants me to listen to this.
-
So I picked up the tape plugged it in and wham he revealed something to me about worship.
-
This is one of the statements he made I encourage you we have the tape here I encourage you to get the tape.
-
What listen to the statement he said Jimmy said in that Freedom from fear take if you fear rejection you will worship acceptance that hit me like a ton of bricks.
-
He said if you fear failure you will worship success I repented that day and fear of man fear of rejection and I did that there was a powerful word from God in my heart.
-
And the Holy Spirit said me for you like that.
-
I encourage you get that it'll help you the third temptation we pick up the story in verse nine.
-
Then he brought him to Jerusalem set him on the high pinnacle of the temple and said to him If you're the Son of God they're casting it out again.
-
Throw yourself down from here for it is written he shall you see Satan quoting scripture you ever had people quote scripture to you that didn't bring life when the Holy Spirit quotes scripture to you does it bring life or death when the Satan quotes scripture what is it?
-
When it doesn't bring life to you you get a clue He shall give angels charge over you to keep you and in his hand they shall bear you up he's just quoting word for word lest you dash your foot against the stone and Jesus said to the Holy Spirit what I say he said you shall not tempt the Lord your God you know what I actually heard the Holy Spirit say to me?
-
Jesus laughed.
-
At this moment he began to laugh you ever laugh at the devil?
-
It's healthy very healthy very healthy.
-
When my children get sick I laugh Oh man why are you so goofy?
-
What are you doing?
-
Jesus laughed you know why?
-
He looked I I really believe he looked at Satan and said this is the reason you got kicked out of heaven buddy You think it's all about you.
-
You want to prove it you want everybody to know who you are.
-
It's your pride.
-
He said to Jesus Hey you're the son of God why don't you cast yourself let everybody see that you're the son of God.
-
Why don't you just prove it Jesus said you don't understand about anything about my father you don't understand anything about me you don't understand anything about the Holy Spirit.
-
We're not here about us we're about my daddy's business.
-
This is not about me.
-
When you get a glimpse folks that this is not about you that it's not about what you possess it's not about what you get it's not about who you are it's not about how big you are what position you hold what name title all that stuff.
-
When you get a clue of that it'll change your life this is about the Holy Spirit filling this body up and doing the works of the Father when you get that your shadow will be powerful because watch Satan left in verse 13 now when the devil had ended every temptation he departed from Jesus until an opportune time verse 14 then Jesus returned in what?
-
I wasn't lying was If you want him to be filled you're willing to be led and you're willing to speak what he says you'll have the power he has.
-
You know why he doesn't release it?
-
Most of us don't defeat Satan in our private lives.
-
We're willing to be filled we're willing to partially be led but defeating Satan in our private lives has been tough.
-
He said if you'll do it the power comes next and then not only the power watch this in verse 18 Jesus walks right into the temple things are starting to happen there's a stir because I'm telling you there's so much here there's a stir over Jesus because he comes back in power and when there's a stir there's not a building big enough to hold the people the building won't be big enough to hold the people but in verse 18 he says when he comes into the synagogue and there's a big stir about Jesus they hand him the book they know something happened and he said this he makes a declaration the Spirit of the Lord is upon me.
-
Who's upon him?
-
The Holy Spirit.
-
And who's anointed him?
-
Because the Holy Spirit has anointed me to do what?
-
The works.
-
What's the work?
-
To preach the gospel that's a work he sent me to heal the brokenhearted that's a work he to preach the deliverance to the captive that's a work to recover the side of the blind that's a work to set liberty to those who are oppressed that's a work.
-
To preach accessible year of the Lord that's a work if you want to work the works of Jesus you're going to have to be filled with the Holy Spirit you have to be led by the Spirit and you don't have to say what the Spirit says and automatically the power and the anointing will show up.
-
He's just looking for a vessel and I can prove it to you in scripture he's looking for a vessel and I'll close with this.
-
Matthew chapter 21 Jesus walks right into Jerusalem.
Matthew 21 chapter mention
-
Walks right into Jerusalem is the day he's going to be betrayed it's over it's being done the last supper's going to happen Jesus Judas is going to give him a kiss he's going to be betrayed.
-
He's in Jerusalem and he goes right into the temple.
-
Now I want to ask you a question.
-
We're about to read it he goes right into the temple who's leading him who wants to lead you okay the Holy Spirit led him to the temple.
-
Watch Matthew chapter 21 Jesus then went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold dust and the next verse says and the survey says and he said it is written my house shall be called a house of prayer which you've made it a den of thieves did the Holy Spirit lead him into the temple did you just see he had a fit did you just see Jesus had a fit now see if you if you need to look like Jesus I look like Jesus a lot because I go in my house I can have fit but I don't think that's the point.
Matthew 21 chapter mention
-
I want to look like Jesus what he did prior to having the fit.
-
I think this fit was of the Holy Spirit because he's being led right by the Holy Spirit?
-
Why did he have the fit?
-
Because the house of God the temple of God was in a disarray who's the temple of God now he's leaving folks he's giving us a picture.
-
The Holy Spirit says hold of you will you get out of town before you know you leave the earth I got to have you do one more thing.
-
I want you to go in the temple and have a fit.
-
Okay?
-
That sounds good to me.
-
I've been wanting to have a fit ever since I've been here he walks right into the temple and he cleans house he cleans house isn't that what the Holy Spirit wants to do with us he wants a clean house.
-
Why?
-
Because once he cleans house watch verse 14 then the blind and the lame came into the temple and he healed them do you see that do you see once the vessel is cleaned out filled up led and and defeated Satan that the power comes is that not a beautiful picture of what the Holy Spirit wants to do she's looking for vessels.
-
Will you be a vessel for the Holy Spirit today?
-
What are you full of?
-
You have two choice you'd be full of the spirit you'll be full of the flesh it's your choice.
