  1. Welcome to Transformation Church Podcast, where we represent God to

  2. the lost and found for transformation in Christ. We're so

  3. glad you're here and wherever you're listening from, we believe

  4. God will transform your life. Do today's message?

  5. I want to just jump straight in to the Word

  6. this morning.

  7. Can we do that? We're gonna jump straight in the Word.

  8. So I need you to pull out your Bibles if

  9. you have them, okay, because we're gonna spend a little

  10. bit of time talking about a guy named Elijah. Okay,

  11. we're gonna talk about Elijah. And here's a funny fact. Again,

  12. we'll be hot. I'm gonna be telling on myself all sermon.

  13. Is that cool? Can I just telling myself? Keap? I

  14. have always been intimidated about preaching about Elijah because of

  15. Ali Shuh. Okay, now if you don't know, there's an

  16. Elijah and there's a lie Shuh. And I never wanted

  17. to preach about it because I was like, I just

  18. feel like I start to sound silly and I forget

  19. who's Elijah and Suh and I put an emphasis on

  20. the Shah and I just get all lot confused. I'm like,

  21. I'm just not touching I'm not doing it. I'm not

  22. gonna appreciate. But guess what, today we're talking about Elijah.

  23. And we don't even have to talk about Elijah today. Okay,

  24. I want you, Alif shuh see, I'm doing it already.

  25. Get in First Kings and read about him. But today

  26. we are specifically talking about Elijah. All right, if you

  27. got your Bibles, go ahead and open up to First

  28. Kings nineteen is where we're going to be hanging out

  29. for a second. First Kings nineteen three through four. Elijah

  30. was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Bethsheba,

  31. in a town in Judah, and he left his servant there.

  32. Then he went on a loan into the wilderness, traveling

  33. all day. He sat down under a solitary broometree and

  34. he prayed that he might die. I've had enough, Lord,

  35. he said, take my life. I am no better than

  36. my ancestors who have already died. God used this portion

  37. of scripture. Use this word to speak to your people.

  38. I love you to the mighty imagies. We pray a man.

  39. Now we have now entered into this scene with Elijah,

  40. where he is done. He's thrown in the towel He

  41. is giving up. He's saying, God, I don't want to

  42. live anymore. And if you know anything about Elijah, I.

  43. Started asking, how in the world did we get here, Elijah,

  44. how did we get to a place where if you

  45. look before the scripture, we saw God do some amazing

  46. works through Elijah's flexed his power on her buddy. Okay,

  47. God showed off through Elijah. But yet we come into

  48. the scene right here seeing that Elijah is running away,

  49. he's retreating, he's alone, and he doesn't want to live anymore.

  50. We saw God answer Elijah's prayer over and over and over.

  51. There was a moment where Elijah prayed in fire came

  52. down from heaven and completely destroyed the altar of bail

  53. down to the water and it literally took all the

  54. water completely evaporated up gone power fire from heaven. God

  55. even gave Elijah the victory over four hundred and fifty people,

  56. gave him some sort of super strength. If you don't

  57. believe me, listen, he also gave Elijah a superpower. I

  58. don't know about you. If you know Flash from the

  59. I think it's DC comics. You know, I'm a marble

  60. guy myself. But we got flashed. Okay, literally, there's a

  61. portion of scripture where it says that God gave him

  62. some sort of super speed. The people left, the chariots

  63. went ahead of Elijah, yet God gave him the ability

  64. to have speed to beat them all back. He tucked

  65. in his cloak and he took off running. I almost did,

  66. but these shoes would have come off. However, we're not

  67. gonna do that right now. But I'm saying, but isn't

  68. this crazy? He gave him a superpower. I don't know

  69. about you. What superpower would you want if God was

  70. to give you a super I feel like I want

  71. need to fly. Anybody you don't want to fly? And

  72. hear anybody in the room you want to fly? Okay, cool?

  73. I don't know, Lord, No, Okay. We see God move

  74. in a mighty way through Elijah, like you can't all

  75. the things, and I'm not even listening off everything. Yet

  76. we come in and we see that he wants to

  77. give up. So I ask, what happened? How did we

  78. get here?

  79. Let's read Chapter nineteen, First Kings nineteen, just two verses before,

  80. so we can see what happened.

  81. How we went from power of God to I don't

  82. want to live anymore. When Ahab got home, he told

  83. Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had

  84. killed all the prophets of bail. Hey, it was a

  85. little snitch man. He went home and told Jezebel, oh,

  86. that's crazy. So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah. May

  87. the gods strike me and even kill me if by

  88. this time tomorrow I have not killed you, just as

  89. you have killed them. God moved in this mighty way,

  90. showed off through Elijah. Elijah got super speed fire, came

  91. down from heaven and one message, one message from this person,

  92. and he completely was undone. He completely crashed out. One message,

  93. can we make it real in today's terms? One text message,

  94. one post that they saw on Instagram feed, one song lyric,

  95. one bad dream, one smell, and then we see Elijah

  96. completely crash out. I don't know if we're being honest

  97. and in my hope and desire for us throughout this series,

  98. and we're on week seven, it's so important that we

  99. start to identify what these triggers are. It's important to

  100. identify what is that one message for you? What is

  101. that one thing for you? This is important It would

  102. be such a shame to get out of this whole

  103. series and not even evaluate the things that you're struggling with,

  104. the things that send you to that moment of wanting

  105. to give up. I want to challenge us and encourage

  106. us to keep asking that question what is it for me?

  107. Because what happens and what I want to introduce to

  108. you guys today is we enter what I'm calling the

  109. crash out cycle. Okay, we're entering the crash anybody have

  110. a crash out before? Can we just acknowledge? Can we

  111. anybody have a crash out? Okay? Almost every hand is up.

  112. If your hand's not up, you've definitely crashed out. Okay,

  113. you might be you more right now? I don't know,

  114. But I want to introduce this idea of the crash

  115. out cycle in what I feel like, when we look

  116. at Elijah, what is happening here? When we look at

  117. our lives, what is happening? Okay? The first thing that

  118. happens in the crash out cycle is a spark. Okay,

  119. the first thing that happens in the crash out cycle

  120. is a spark. Now, the spark, it could be something big,

  121. it could be something small, but What is happening is

  122. the spark. It ignites some sort of emotion in you. Okay,

  123. it ignites a response, whether that be from fear. You

  124. enter into this moment of I don't know whether it

  125. is a message, whether it's a post, whether it is

  126. the smell, whether it is the song, whether it is

  127. whatever that is, whether there's the person. It is a

  128. spark that ignites an emotional response.

  129. And then what we see happen as we go into

  130. this thing where I'm calling the surge.

  131. This is where you start getting flooded with anxiety and

  132. emotions start going wild, and and you begin to start

  133. to think things, and you begin to get into this

  134. what I see the fight or flight.

  135. Anybody ever been there before, where you have a decision

  136. to make. It's either we're gonna fight or we're gonna run.

  137. What happens is you have the spark or the trigger.

  138. There's something that triggers that emotion, and then we go

  139. into this moment of the surge, that anxiety flares up,

  140. You start to make bad decisions, you start to not

  141. be thinking clearly, and then what ultimately the surge leads

  142. to is a spiral. We see ourselves entering into now

  143. what I'm calling the spiral. Thoughts start racing. I can't

  144. do this anymore. Thoughts just start racing through your mind

  145. things that are true, and you start to doubt, and

  146. you start to question, can anybody else just think about

  147. the things in your life? Okay, let me ask you this.

  148. You've ever been on the teacup ride or one of

  149. those things, the things that go spin, spin, spinspin, spinning,

  150. put you a spiral. I do not like those. I

  151. have retired from those rides. I told my kids man,

  152. when we went to the fair, they said, Daddy, can

  153. we go? But no, ask your mama. She's gonna go

  154. on with you. I can't do it, because what happens

  155. in the spiral, when you're turning and you're spinning, you

  156. get so discombobulated. You don't know what's up, you don't

  157. know what's down. And that's what happens when you have

  158. this spark, you have this trigger, your surge filled with emotions,

  159. and then you start to spiral. You don't start to

  160. think clearly. You start to make compromising decisions, just like that.

  161. I'm telling you, when I think of that ride, when

  162. I am done after that thing, I'm like, hold up,

  163. I cannot. I don't know what has happened. I feel sick.

  164. But that's what happens these things. You start to race

  165. through our minds and we're just not clear, and then

  166. happens from there, so we end up at the crash out.

  167. We end up at the crash out. I should have

  168. made a sound effect when that thing did that.

  169. I'm just felt like I needed to make a sound

  170. like we didn't just imagine in your head. Okay, but

  171. this is where we see the results of what has

  172. taken place. We had the spark, we had the surge,

  173. and then we started the spiral, and we crashed out.

  174. This is where we withdraw. This is where we isolate.

  175. This is where we just we check out. We stopped

  176. coming to church, we stopped talking to those friends, we

  177. stop being honest with ourselves. We start we see ourselves

  178. in this moment where we have got.

  179. Ourselves in the crash out cycle.

  180. Now that we have an understanding of what I'm calling

  181. the crash out cycle, I want to look at Elijah's

  182. story now. Okay, because now we've seen Elijah, we've seen

  183. what has happened in One Kings nineteen, I want to

  184. start to see so we can identify this cycle in

  185. his life.

  186. Okay, So we see the spark for Elijah Jezebel's message. Okay,

  187. we see the spark in Elijah's cycle as Jezebel's message. Okay,

  188. saw the power of God did all this amazing things.

  189. And then he got a message. He got a text message,

  190. his phone ding. He looked at it and that was

  191. the spark. Then we see the surge. We see the

  192. surge in Elijah's life. This is where he starts to panic.

  193. He sees the message, he hears the message, and he

  194. starts to panic. He starts to go into this this

  195. flight mode where he's like, I gotta get out of here,

  196. I gotta run, and he runs, he retreats, he isolates,

  197. and then we see the spiral in Elijah's life.

  198. This is where he starts thinking things, I've had enough.

  199. It got so bad that in the spiral for Elijah,

  200. he said, I don't want to live anymore. Take my life, Lord,

  201. And then Elijah there's a series of events there. If

  202. you don't know the story, I wish I had time

  203. to go through and tell you all about it. But

  204. what happens from here is there's a moment where Elijah

  205. is under the broom tree by himself, completely spiraled, and

  206. an angel appears to him and literally just tells him

  207. to sleep and he gives him some food.

  208. Some of y'all, the crash out could be avoided if

  209. you just eat and sleep. Like, there's a reality that man.

  210. The man might have just been hungry, he might just

  211. need some food. Sometimes it's not that deep. Sometimes it's

  212. not that spiritual when we look at it. This Your

  213. spark could be your stomma growlin Like. I'm just there's

  214. a reality and there's a solution to that. Go get

  215. some food. But if you're not familiar, then what happens

  216. from here is Elijah's met with the angel that he

  217. goes on this journey for forty days by himself and

  218. he ends up in a cave. So we see Elijah

  219. enter this crash out cycle and ultimately his crash out

  220. ends him alone in a cave. Church started with one message.

  221. I don't know if you can relate to this, but

  222. maybe for you, you've you've been on this mountaintop in life

  223. and God is moving and you went to V four

  224. conference or you came to a church service, so you

  225. heard the message from last week and you had a

  226. moment at the altar and you're charged up and God

  227. moved and you got this anonymous money in the bank,

  228. or or a bill got paid off for you, or

  229. something took place.

  230. And you're like yes, and then one thing start to

  231. spiral into a crash out when I think of this

  232. spark because I think sometimes we're like, yeah, but it's

  233. just like one little thing. It was. It was one message, Like,

  234. but there's a really there. The spark is powerful, guys.

  235. When I look at forest fires and things that take place,

  236. all that happened is a little spark can take down

  237. an entire forest, can wreak havoc and destruction. So please

  238. do not discount that one thing in your life that

  239. is getting you to a place of in that spiral

  240. it can be. I'm telling you this is why it's

  241. important to identify and be able to know, because one

  242. spark can destroy what God is trying to do in

  243. your life if we don't deal with it, if we

  244. don't submit it to him. But you got to ask

  245. yourself what it is for you. I can't answer that

  246. question for you. You got to find yourself in this and

  247. figure out what is that thing that keeps coming up?

  248. What is that one thing that just keeps coming up

  249. in my life? And every time I know, so that

  250. way you can deal with it.

  251. I'd be honest as a former drug addict, I don't

  252. go and hang around people that are doing drugs.

  253. I don't because I know that that's just a temptation

  254. that I don't even want to be around. Why in

  255. the world would I go towards the edge and hang

  256. out here when I could easily be like, yeah, I

  257. just actually don't go there because I know myself. I've

  258. identified that and I don't want any problems with that anymore. Okay,

  259. I love what God is doing in my life. I

  260. have no desire to be over there. We have to

  261. identify these things because that one spark can take you out,

  262. take you out, and I want to I want to

  263. expose the enemy's plan for a second. The devil wants

  264. you in that crashout cycle. He wants you in the

  265. crash out cycle and not even realize that you're in

  266. the cycle. He wants you so discombobulated and confused and

  267. trapped in this continuation of a cycle, and you never

  268. deal with it. So then years go by in your

  269. life and you're struggling and you're crashing out by the

  270. same thing. The word says it like this in one

  271. Peter five eight, Stay alert, watch out, because your great enemy,

  272. the devil, he prowls around like a roaring lion looking

  273. for someone to devour. He wants us trapped in this

  274. crash out cycle. He wants us being triggered by that stuff.

  275. He wants us to be in the place where we

  276. get so focused on the negative in our life and

  277. continue to spiral that we don't realize it and we

  278. just continue your cycle after cycle after cycle. Why because

  279. he knows you're a threat. You need to know that

  280. we have a very real enemy that has no power,

  281. no authority over us. Likes to try to trick us

  282. in the think he does because you are a threat.

  283. You are a threat. The purpose and the call that

  284. sits on your life is a threat to what he

  285. is trying to do. He wants to steal, he wants

  286. to kill, he wants to destroy. You're a threat. You

  287. need to know that you have somebody that wants you

  288. to fail. You have somebody that wants you to lose.

  289. You're a threat. You're being triggered because you're a threat.

  290. Chesebel wasn't just after Elijah to just kill him. She

  291. knew the impact he had, the influence he had. She

  292. was after that. Can I say something? She didn't even

  293. kill him. She sent a message, and he went and

  294. hid and walked out of his purpose and walked out

  295. of his call. He stopped influencing people. He was literally

  296. at the peak of being one of the most influential

  297. people at that time, and people look to him and

  298. listen to him. But a message sent him to go

  299. into hiding. Elijah was a threat. You are a threat.

  300. Don't get trapped in the cycle, because what happens when

  301. we were crashing out and we get trapped in the

  302. crash out cycle, we get so focused inward that we

  303. lose focus on what is important to God and us

  304. being able to reach His people. That's what the crash

  305. out does. It keeps us so focused inward on what

  306. is wrong, and we just are trapped in this that

  307. we miss the people that God have placed in our

  308. lives to be Jesus, to be able to invite to church.

  309. Can I tell you something practical if and I'm not,

  310. let me just be very real. There are things that

  311. you have to walk in and you have to navigate,

  312. and you do need to go to counseling, and you

  313. do have to have the moment to sit and grieve

  314. in all these I'm not saying that, but what I

  315. am saying is, please just be alert and mindful that

  316. if you would just continue to be in this cycle

  317. of a crash out, you might miss the person at

  318. the grocery store that just needs, desperately needs to come

  319. to church. But because you're so focused inward and trapped

  320. in this cycle, we don't invite them the church. They

  321. don't experience Jesus, and I'm not trying to put that

  322. on all of us. But at the same time, we

  323. are called to go out and make disciples of men.

  324. We are called to go and be representatives of Jesus.

  325. So you want to know what we're gonna do. We're

  326. gonna disrupt the cycle today. What I believe we are

  327. going to do as a church is we are gonna

  328. disrupt the cycle. The very definition of disrupt, drastically alter

  329. and destroy the structure of the enemy has a plan

  330. to come in and keep us trapped in this cycle.

  331. But I believe that today we are gonna destroy that structure.

  332. We are gonna no longer believe the lives that the

  333. enemy has got us to believe. We are gonna focus

  334. on Jesus, and we are gonna see lives transformed, including ourselves.

  335. Disrupt the cycle the title of my message, Disrupt the cycle,

  336. John ten ten. The thief's purpose is to steal, kill,

  337. and destroy.

  338. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

  339. We might have a real enemy that wants to keep

  340. us trapped in this cycle, but we also have somebody

  341. that is greater, the God, the creator of the universe,

  342. who is for us, that wants us to be out

  343. of this cycle, that wants us to be walking in freedom,

  344. wants us to be delivered.

  345. Wants us to be redeemed, wants us to be able

  346. to not be stuck in this cycle and focus on people.

  347. Be able to be the best husband, the best father,

  348. be able to be the best mother, the best wife,

  349. all these things. God wants us that for us, He

  350. has promised, He wants hope for a future. I don't

  351. want to give the enemy too much credit. Man, he lost,

  352. he loses, like come on, it's over, Like we have

  353. the victory, and yet some of us are trapped in

  354. this cycle, but I believe it. Today we're gonna disrupt

  355. the cycle. How are we gonna do this? How are

  356. we gonna do this? We're gonna look to the ultimate example,

  357. and that is Jesus. I'm not gonna try to make

  358. up something and like, oh hell we do this is now.

  359. We are gonna look at Jesus and we're gonna see

  360. his life and his story and his crashout cycle. Oh

  361. you didn't know Jesus. Listen, Jesus had experience with the

  362. crash out cycles a little bit. Okay, Okay, we're going

  363. with it a couple times. We're gonna focus on one today.

  364. Okay, let's look to Jesus Luke twenty two, forty one

  365. through forty four. What you need to know here is

  366. this is where he is going to the garden a

  367. Yosemite to pray.

  368. He's bringing a.

  369. Couple of disciples with him. They fall asleep, he gets mad.

  370. It's a whole thing. We're not gonna talk about that today.

  371. But he knows that the time is near.

  372. He knows that what he has to do, what he

  373. was born in the call and the purpose and the prophecy,

  374. that's on his life. He's about to go and face

  375. what nobody should have to endure for us. He knows this.

  376. He goes and we find him in verse forty one

  377. Luke twenty two to forty one.

  378. He walked away about a stone's throw and knelt down

  379. and prayed, Father, if you are willing, please take this

  380. cup of suffering away from me, yet I want your

  381. will to be done, not mine. Then the angel from

  382. heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently.

  383. And he was in such agony of spirit that his

  384. sweat fell to the ground like drops of blood. Jesus

  385. had experience with the crash out cycle. Let's let's let's

  386. go through the cycle real quick so we can see this. Okay,

  387. we have this spark. This is that moment. He knew

  388. what was coming. He knew and felt and experienced the

  389. weight of what was happening, the burden that was sitting

  390. on his shoulders. He felt it. He knew the time

  391. is near. And then we look at the surge. Okay,

  392. what's the surge in this in this cycle? Right here?

  393. For Jesus, Jesus feels deep anguish, He feels deep anguish.

  394. His sweat becomes like drops of blood. You can't tell

  395. me that there's not a reaction to what is taking place.

  396. There's this surge that has taken place through his body

  397. and it's physically responding. We see the surge, and then

  398. we see the spiral, this little glimpse of a spiral

  399. where he knows what needs to be done and he's

  400. having this moment. But so he's filled with all these

  401. emotions and thinking about what is taking place. The beautiful

  402. thing about Jesus says he's fully God and fully mad.

  403. He felt when we felt. You can't tell me that

  404. there wasn't this emotion of like, oh my goodness, this

  405. is not gonna be fun. Like there's this reality. So

  406. we see the spiral. This is that moment where he's like, yo, God,

  407. if there's any other way. He's starting to think. He

  408. knows it needs to be done, but yet this thought

  409. comes out of that God, is there any other way?

  410. Please take this cup from me? And then we don't

  411. see Jesus crash out. We don't see Jesus crash out.

  412. What do we see him? Do we see him surrender?

  413. We see Jesus surrender. Yes, he felt the spark. Yes,

  414. there was a surge of all these emotions. Yes there

  415. was some thoughts that he was thinking in the spiral,

  416. but he did not crash out. He came to a

  417. place of surrender. That's how we're gonna disrupt the cycle.

  418. We're gonna disrupt the cycle with surrender. If you write

  419. anything down, write that down. We are gonna disrupt the

  420. cycle with surrender. We're gonna disrupt it. All the things

  421. he was feeling, all the emotions he was feeling, was

  422. disrupted with surrender.

  423. And I can't I get this visual. We see two

  424. totally different scenes. Team, you can go ahead and throw

  425. up the garden in the cave we see, we see.

  426. I wanted to be able to bring two different stories

  427. so that we can see the contrast of these things.

  428. Okay, we see it's pretty dark. Man. Cave is not

  429. looking not looking friendly over here. This is where we

  430. see Elijah's moment.

  431. His crash out cycle ultimately led him to a place

  432. of being in this cave alone.

  433. What we see in Jesus in just in his cycle

  434. and what he does and what I love about this,

  435. here's what I'm gonna say. This is thank you Holy Spirit.

  436. What I want to point out on this side here

  437. is Elijah got to a place where he crashed out.

  438. He had this whole moment, and the Angel came and

  439. found him. It was like, Yo, you need to eat,

  440. you need to drink. Like there's a moment here and

  441. then later on I'll talk about it. But God meets

  442. Elijah here. But what happened over here? Jesus did not

  443. wait crash out and then God come and be like, Yo,

  444. what are you doing? No, Jesus knew when he said

  445. the time was near. When that spark came, he actually

  446. ran over here and retreated and said.

  447. God, I need you.

  448. God. I don't know what to do, like God, I

  449. just I need you to come through in this morning.

  450. And in this moment he knew that he needed to

  451. go spend time with God. The beautiful thing about both

  452. of these is they both end with God meeting them there. Yes, absolutely,

  453. But what if there was a world in which we

  454. actually don't need to have this ending in a cave moment,

  455. lonely and isolated. What happens if with the crash out,

  456. the spark takes place and we are met with surrender

  457. and we come over here and say, God, I can't

  458. do this. I don't know how to raise these kids

  459. by myself. God, I need you. We're going to disrupt

  460. a cycle with surrender. I want to. I was thinking

  461. through and praying through.

  462. Just my story in my life, and I was really

  463. trying to find myself in the crash out cycle. And

  464. let me be honest, I've had many. I had many

  465. crash out cycles, and I still do. Let's just be honest.

  466. There there is reality that there are still moments that

  467. we get stuck in this. But I was thinking in

  468. my life one moment that was really a defining moment

  469. in my life, and I want to show you. I

  470. want to take you through the cycle and I want

  471. I just want to make it real for you. There

  472. was a moment where my spark was I was eighteen

  473. and I got a girl pregnant and I was young,

  474. I was dumb all the stuff, but come be honest,

  475. I was old enough to be a dad. And if

  476. I'm being really honest, I kind of got excited. I

  477. remember finding out and it just it turned from from

  478. fear to excitement.

  479. I was like, dang man, I don't want to be

  480. a dad, Like that's amazing. Started looking at stuff started

  481. thinking baby names, started thinking if it was gonna be

  482. a boy or a girl. And that spark for me

  483. was when I went over to her house and she

  484. sat me down and she said, hey, remember last week.

  485. I said, I went on a retreat with my mom

  486. for a little getaway. She's like, I couldn't tell you,

  487. but I actually went and got an abortion. And that

  488. spark sent a surge of a lot of emotions. Anger, sadness, brokenness, hopelessness.

  489. I was flooded. I wasn't seeing straight. I was so

  490. just broken in this moment. And then I called my

  491. friend and I said, bro, I don't know what I

  492. gotta do. I got to and he said, hey, man,

  493. what if we just get away for a little Let's

  494. let's go to Myrtle Beach. Let's just buy a ticket

  495. and let's get out of here. And so my spiral.

  496. I ran.

  497. I retreated. I didn't go to my friends, I didn't

  498. go to my family. I was so broken that I said, yo,

  499. I just got to get out of here. So I

  500. went and I ran and knew on what I turned to.

  501. My drug use was already bad, but I started even

  502. making it even worse. I started running the spiral had

  503. me thinking thoughts, I don't want to feel anymore. There

  504. was so many emotions and I just didn't want to

  505. feel them anymore, And ultimately that led.

  506. Me to a crash out. My drug use from there

  507. got a lot worse. It wasn't fun party scene doing

  508. my thing type anymore. It was I genuinely just didn't

  509. want to feel anymore.

  510. I ran from everything. I cut off family. I wasn't

  511. the same person anymore. After that. I chose to isolate.

  512. I chose to go sit in the cave by myself.

  513. I didn't run to God. I wish I would have.

  514. Sometimes I think about it, and I'm like, man, what

  515. would it have been if I would have turned to

  516. him and not turned to the bottle, not turned to

  517. the pipe? What would have been? I ask it every

  518. now and then.

  519. But now I'm just so confident in what God has

  520. done in my life and the redemption. I look at

  521. my son aro Jains and my daughter's story snow. When

  522. I see grace, I see mercy, I see it new

  523. in a fresh start.

  524. I see it.

  525. I see it. And now I'm in this place where

  526. every time that spark comes up, it is met directly

  527. with surrender. I'm not perfect with it, but you want

  528. to know something. When that spark hits the first thing

  529. my first thought is, God, I need you. It's gotta

  530. be church, It's gotta be our response. We gotta disrupt

  531. the cycle.

  532. God has something so great for us and in you

  533. and in your life and in your future family and

  534. people that are connected to you.

  535. God to disrupt that cycle with surrender first. And I

  536. don't want to.

  537. Ever get up here and preach a message and say surrender,

  538. surrender and it be just some ethereal thing and you

  539. not leave with what we actually do with that, because

  540. I really, I literally this was the one that this

  541. is one of the main things I literally got with God.

  542. And I said, God, I know that the answer to

  543. my question when people ask how do you stay sober,

  544. how do you stay in this place of being just

  545. happy and filled.

  546. With joy and all these things? And the answer is surrender.

  547. Like I genuinely like it's because I surrendered it, O God.

  548. But I want to be able to give practical language

  549. to this so that we know because somebody might be

  550. in a place where you're at the spark, or you're

  551. at the surge, or you're in the middle of the spiral,

  552. or you've already crashed out. I want to show you.

  553. I'm gonna give you four things. We're gonna talk through

  554. them real quick, and then we're gonna just let God

  555. close this thing out. What does surrender look like. The

  556. first thing we have to do is we recognize until

  557. we get to a place where we acknowledge and recognize

  558. what is happening, when we recognize that we are trapped

  559. in this cycle of a crash out, until we just

  560. recognize God, I continue to struggle with this God, I

  561. continue to feel anxiety. God. I continue to.

  562. Wake up in the morning and actually kind of be

  563. disappointed that I woke up. Like, if we're being honest,

  564. if we don't recognize these things, if we don't recognize

  565. that we need.

  566. God, we can't surrender. So the first thing we do

  567. is we recognize. We got to recognize the sparks that

  568. the things that represent triggers, We got to recognize them.

  569. We got to identify them. I'm gonna encourage you if

  570. you haven't yet, please do not get out of this

  571. series without writing down the things that sets you off

  572. and send you into this cycle.

  573. The second thing we do is we repent. This is

  574. where we turn. This is where can I say it

  575. like this?

  576. Sometimes the crash out leads to us sinning, and sometimes

  577. the crash out does not lead to us sinning.

  578. Sometimes when I say repent, it is repent God, I

  579. need forgiveness for doing this. And the beautiful thing is

  580. you are met with forgiveness in that moment.

  581. But sometimes the repent looks like this, God, I'm sorry

  582. I didn't trust you. God, I'm sorry. Like yes, that man.

  583. When I saw that bill it sent me, I started

  584. feeling some type of way. I went down this spiral.

  585. I went down to God, forgive me for not trusting you.

  586. Sometimes we just need to repent for not trusting in

  587. Him and then turn and say, God, I trust you.

  588. I know you're the provider. I know you got me,

  589. I know you got my family. We have to recognize,

  590. we have to repent, then we have to receive. This

  591. is where we receive the forgiveness. This is where we

  592. receive the grace and the new mercies. Because I want

  593. to I want to encourage you no matter where you

  594. are at in that cycle.

  595. Or if this is a future things, I just want

  596. you to remember this at any point from the spark,

  597. to the surge, to the spiral, to even the crash.

  598. You can surrender. You can always receive the grace and

  599. the mercy from Jesus. You can always receive new mercies

  600. from him. You can always wake up in the morning

  601. and say, Man, I missed it yesterday, but God, thank you.

  602. Forgiving me another day today. This last one is important

  603. to me.

  604. I literally I had the three and because at the

  605. end of the day, I just can I let me

  606. say a blanket statement. You receiving Jesus, accepting that free

  607. gift of salvation that he paid a price for us.

  608. Is the most important thing. That is the most important thing.

  609. And I also want to give this other last point

  610. that I feel like is important when I look at

  611. my life and I'm looking at it and I'm saying, Okay,

  612. I recognize it. God, I needed you in this moment

  613. when I repent, when I turn, when I when I

  614. ask for forgiveness, and when I receive and I receive

  615. that forgiveness. The fourth point is resist. Why do I

  616. say this? Why is this the last point? Because there's

  617. a reality that we can have these moments like Elijah,

  618. we can see the power, we can see God move.

  619. We can see fire rain down from heaven and then

  620. a message, and we end up at a crash out.

  621. But what the word of God says is resist the

  622. devil and he will flee from you. Resist the devil

  623. and he will flee from you. Now I hear this

  624. scripture said a lot, and it's powerful. Resist the devil

  625. and he shall flee from you. But if you don't

  626. read the very first part of what this scripture says,

  627. we miss it. It says, submit yourself. Surrender yourself then

  628. to God, resist the devil and he will flee. It

  629. starts with surrender. I look back at my life. There

  630. are so many moments where I was trapped in this

  631. out cycle. Then I was like, man, I could have

  632. surrendered there. I could have surrendered there. And I don't

  633. get hung up on that stuff anymore. But I do

  634. look at the moment where I did interrupt, when I

  635. did disrupt the cycle with surrender. If you heard my story,

  636. I've shared it a million times. I'm gonna share it

  637. two more million times. Okay. I was in the basement

  638. of a jail, and it was the moment where I

  639. ended up in my crash out. I was in there

  640. I was charged. I was convicted ten years of drug use,

  641. and I'm in there and I'm just like, God, what

  642. are you doing? And you want to know where it started,

  643. where it changed when my crash out turned into my testimony,

  644. was when I surrendered. I got on my hands and

  645. knees and I prayed. I said, God, I don't want

  646. to live this way anymore. God, I know you have

  647. so much more for me. God, will you take my

  648. life and use it? I was desperate for him. Can

  649. you put a the cave one more time for me?

  650. The beautiful part of this story, in what I relate to,

  651. is when Elijah was in this cave, there was a

  652. lot of things that took place, and the Bible talks

  653. about there was storms, there was an earthquake, there was fire.

  654. There was all these natural disastrous things chaos that are

  655. taking place. And the Word says that God was not

  656. in that stuff. But in the midst of all of that,

  657. he whispered to Elijah. God met him, and he whispered

  658. to him. And when I found myself in the cave

  659. or my cave was called the shoe special hold unit

  660. is isolation in the basement of a jail, I don't

  661. know which cave is worse. I'm not sure mine. For sure.

  662. I was in this and in the moment where I

  663. was on my hands and knees and I was praying

  664. and I was asking God to please turn it around.

  665. I surrender it to you. It was a whisper that

  666. I heard him say, like, are you done yet? Are

  667. you done yet? Are you tired? Because I got something

  668. better for you. I got something better for you. And

  669. it was in that moment I prayed and I literally

  670. I repented of everything. I gave the laundry, this beataure.

  671. I just started going and listing off all this stuff.

  672. And at the end of the day, my last thing

  673. I said was God, please take my life. It is yours,

  674. and that surrender me disrupting the cycle was met with freedom.

  675. It was met with redemption. It was met with me

  676. meeting the love of my life being married. It was

  677. met with me having arrow James. It was met with

  678. me having sorry snow. It was met with me walking

  679. in my purpose. It was met with me walking in

  680. my colleague. It was he's met with me being sober

  681. for ten years. It was met with Jesus and that's

  682. what he wants to do here today. He wants to

  683. disrupt your cycle. Jesus wants to come into your life.

  684. No matter what you are doing, no matter what you

  685. are going through, you just gotta give it to him.

  686. Whether that be surrendering your life to Jesus for the

  687. first time, course is saying God, I've missed it this week, Jesus,

  688. I'm sorry.

  689. Can we start this over. I don't know where you

  690. are with that, but the solution to whatever you're going

  691. through is surrender. The solution is surrender. He's gonna meet

  692. you right where you are. The last thing I'll say.

  693. The story doesn't stop at the crash. It continues in surrender.

  694. No matter where you're at, He will meet you where

  695. you are. Will you stand all over this room right

  696. now in this moment, I'm gonna I'm gonna invite people.

  697. This is the most important part of the service. I'm

  698. gonna invite people to receive Jesus. So, if you are

  699. in this room, I'm gonna ask that you just pray

  700. in this moment for the people that are about to

  701. give their life to Jesus. Every head bowed, eyes or closed.

  702. I'm gonna ask this question, if you would like to

  703. give your life to Jesus. The greatest decision that you

  704. can never make, the decision that.

  705. Completely changed my life.

  706. The power that was able to take a guy that

  707. was addicted to drugs for ten years and give him

  708. complete freedom.

  709. It's a free gift. All you have to do is

  710. receive it.

  711. If this is you and you want to surrender your

  712. life to Jesus, I'm gonna ask that you slip your

  713. hand in the air. Just put your hand in the air.

  714. If you're watching online, let somebody know right now, raise

  715. your hand in the air.

  716. I see you, I see you. God sees you. I

  717. see you, my brother up there, I see you, I

  718. see you back there. I'm going to ask in this moment,

  719. thank you Jesus. I'm going to ask in this moment

  720. that we are a family.

  721. We all pray together, repeat after me, Father God, thank

  722. you for sending Jesus to die on a cross from me.

  723. I believe he lived, he died, and he rose again.

  724. I admit that I've sinned, but right now I fully

  725. surrender take over my life.

  726. I love you. It's a Jesus name. We pray, and

  727. everybody said a man and amen, can we give it

  728. up for everybody that made that decision to give that

  729. life to Jesus.

  730. Yeah, thank you for joining us today. If you said that.
