-
enjoy this week's message. All right, I have
-
a little bit of time left this morning. Could
-
you turn in your Bibles? I'd like you to turn
-
to Matthew chapter six. How many were here for
-
our fire on the altar service last Saturday night?
-
Okay, just a few of us, okay. I need to try to,
-
we may not get to Matthew six, but we'll just
-
see where we go. Yeah, why not? That's fine.
-
No, just come back in about 15 minutes. Beautiful.
-
Okay. So, Van, it's great to see you. Welcome.
-
There you go. I'm all natural here. Hallelujah.
-
All right. So, one of the principles that I felt
-
the Holy Spirit tried to move, he's moving in
-
my heart, and I believe that he's wanting to
-
move the church and your heart. to an understanding.
-
We've heard it today in the prophetic word. We've
-
been hearing it in the last few weeks that God
-
is speaking about us moving forward in his truths
-
to partner with what he's wanting to do, right?
-
He actually wants you to have a partnership with
-
him. Yes, he wants to draw you to himself as
-
he's the God of salvation, but he also wants
-
to move you from that place of just having an
-
encounter of salvation to actually move you into
-
partnership that you would walk in the spirit
-
and that you would actually live him. You would
-
be his mouthpiece. You would be his hands, his
-
feet, that he could actually live in you like
-
the Holy Spirit was in Jesus Christ. That's the
-
goal. And one of the things that we've been talking
-
about is we've been talking about this revelation
-
of Passover. And we started about a month ago
-
and we started dealing with this revelation of
-
Passover that the apostle Paul through the Holy
-
Spirit brings to the Corinthian church because
-
Passover is a direct correlation to the cross
-
of Jesus Christ. So when you see Passover and
-
you see the children of Israel coming out of
-
the land of slavery, as soon as God brings that
-
last sign, it was a invitation to what only he
-
could do. He could be the only one who preserved
-
life. And it comes by the blood of a lamb on
-
the doorposts of a house or a heart. Jesus is
-
exactly that. He was crucified at the time of
-
Passover. He was the Lamb of God that takes away
-
the sin of the world. Therefore, when we see
-
Passover in the Old Testament, we understand
-
that Passover has been celebrated for 1 ,500,
-
1 ,600 years plus, more than that. In fact, it's
-
probably more closer to 3 ,600 years in the reality
-
of what was established as they came out of Egypt.
-
But New Testament wise, it says Passover is Jesus
-
Christ, the cross. And in order to understand
-
the cross, you can't just leave the cross. The
-
cross includes resurrection. Why is that so important?
-
Because if Jesus... was just to die without a
-
resurrection, it meant that God would have to
-
keep providing a sacrifice every year like he
-
did in the Old Testament. Every year in the Old
-
Testament, Passover was again and again and again.
-
Why? It was almost like God was showing his grace.
-
Knowing that he could not redeem man with animal
-
blood. But he would show his long suffering of
-
his nature and his patience with us. That every
-
year he would push out again. Reset. Reset. reset,
-
reset, reset until I finally bring my timing
-
with what I want to do. I'm going to show you
-
my nature and my character. And that is, I am
-
the God who has patience and long suffering beyond
-
what you have ever known. I am the endless, God
-
has endless patience if he wants it. I don't.
-
Just ask my two daughters that I've raised. They'll
-
say, dad has limits. I've never been accused
-
of being a man of endless patience. But God has
-
always revealed himself as a God of patience
-
and long suffering. And when Jesus came, he became
-
that lamb that was now not connected. to an animal.
-
He was now representing the lamb of God who had
-
the blood of God. And because he was a perfect
-
sacrifice, God's spirit raised him from the dead
-
and he lives. And because of that, God now wants
-
us, and this is the key that I'm trying to move
-
us in. God wants us to understand that salvation
-
is absolutely critical. It is the first door
-
that we are to go through to get into the kingdom
-
of God. No man can come to the Father except
-
through Jesus Christ. But that's not where he
-
wants you just to stay. Yes, he wants you to
-
have salvation, but there is a progression, a
-
progression to this second feast that he would
-
show the children of Israel. This second feast
-
was called the Feast of Pentecost. And in the
-
Feast of Pentecost, there are multiple things
-
that God begins to do to reveal, even though
-
the Jews celebrated Pentecost naturally, and
-
even though the church was celebrating Pentecost
-
naturally, when God fulfilled the day of Pentecost
-
in Acts chapter 2 at the birth of the church,
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
there's about 15 to 20 things. that Pentecost
-
actually does that we are supposed to be aware
-
of and actually walk in. And for most of us,
-
the biggest divide in our Christianity is that
-
we're divided thinking that only the cross is
-
the highest. The cross and the resurrection seems
-
to be the only thing that the church can rally
-
around. When the reality is we should be rallying
-
around Pentecost. Now listen, here's where the
-
church most likely is at. If you've ever heard
-
anybody talk that has not understood what the
-
Feast of Pentecost is and the significance of
-
why we should walk in it, they want to choose
-
two feasts out of the three. They want to choose
-
Passover because that represents salvation. And
-
then they want to skip Pentecost and go to trumpets
-
and tabernacles. Why? Get saved and move right
-
to the rapture. Get saved and move right to the
-
coming of the Lord. But that wasn't how God led
-
them. He didn't go from the first feast in the
-
first months. all the way to the end feast of
-
the end month. He led them into a experience
-
of understanding this feast of Pentecost because
-
it would be the feast where most of the work
-
would get done. What do you mean by that? Well,
-
spiritually, God does the work in all the feasts
-
himself. It's not us. He alone provided, as we
-
saw in Passover about three, four weeks ago,
-
we looked at it at communion. We can't provide
-
a sacrifice for us. Only God could provide his
-
son. But then in the midst of it, what did he
-
do? He said, now I want you to join with me and
-
I want you to. I want you to participate in the
-
feast of unleavened bread with Passover, which
-
means what? You have to search your house. You
-
have to search your heart. You got to get rid
-
of the leaven and you got to bring that. And
-
I want you to keep that. And if you won't keep
-
that, it doesn't matter if you have the blood
-
on the doorpost of your house, or it doesn't
-
matter if you have the lamb. If you won't keep
-
the feast of leaven, I've got to remove you.
-
The priest of unleavened bread, I have to remove
-
you from the principle. Why? Because the whole
-
principle was he's partnering with you. He does
-
what only he could do to get you there. And then
-
he's saying in that part, in that responsibility,
-
I now invite you as a holy calling to come have
-
partake of my nature. And that nature is pure
-
and clean and true. And that symbolism that they
-
had to do in Israel was to say, our part was
-
to. get out of anything that would cause pride
-
or that would represent sin. Now we move to what
-
we know as, if that's Passover, that's the cross.
-
Cross and the resurrection of Jesus. We can what?
-
We have to Call on the name of the Lord. That's
-
what the scriptures are so important. Whoever
-
calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
-
What else has to happen? We actually have to
-
believe and receive him into ourselves. If we
-
confess with our mouth and believe in our heart
-
that God has raised him from the dead, I shall
-
be saved. And then what else do I have a responsibility?
-
I have to confess and believe. That never changes.
-
Everything else in the word of God that you're
-
going to learn starts from that position. You
-
have to what? Believe and then confess it. It
-
didn't just happen at salvation. You don't just
-
have a one shot of believing and confessing.
-
It means that. of getting it into your heart,
-
getting the truth in your heart, and hearing
-
your profession of his word is what actually
-
establishes you walking in faith as he develops
-
you. It's a progression. Can I get an amen? And
-
he moves you from that progression of salvation
-
to what? Another experience. Doesn't mean your
-
salvation is gone at Pentecost. It means that
-
he wants to build on the cornerstone of your
-
foundation of welcoming Jesus into your life.
-
And he does it by what? He begins to bring you
-
into a revelation of Pentecost. Pastor Trent,
-
about five, six weeks ago, I know sometimes stringing
-
this together, you don't remember, I kind of
-
bring all these things back as I'm trying to
-
prepare. as he gave us an understanding of the
-
beginning of Pentecost, we need to understand
-
that Jesus, Jesus' whole point of ministry from
-
the time he was baptized in the Holy Spirit in
-
water and the Spirit of God came on him. Let
-
me say it again. He was baptized in water for
-
the fullness and John saw the Spirit of God come
-
on him and never lift off of him. From that point
-
for three and a half years, Jesus... lived to
-
point to the Father and the Holy Spirit. Every
-
message that he had was about what his Father
-
was doing and the Holy Spirit that was revealing
-
it. Now, for me, and I'm going to say something
-
that might be a little controversial for you,
-
but the body of Christ is so divided on the Holy
-
Spirit. I think, honestly, that one of the greatest
-
doctrine of demons, now just hang on to your
-
seat, one of the greatest doctrine of demons
-
is this, that in the last hundred years, 120
-
probably to be exact, the last 120 years, this
-
doctrine that came into the church That the Holy
-
Spirit has ceased in the first century church.
-
And now because we have the word of God by itself,
-
that is the perfect. And there's no more need
-
to flow in the gifts of the spirit. There's no
-
more need for the prophetic. There's no more
-
need for the church to have that because we already
-
have all that we need. To me, that is a straight
-
up misrepresentation of the scripture. Straight
-
up. Now I know there's other people that present
-
that a little more kind than what I'm doing like
-
I said. But the reality is I need to call it
-
as it was because I'm telling you I grew up under
-
that. I grew up under it and I had no framework.
-
And when I realized that there was no place in
-
the scriptures beside that interpretation by
-
theologians. Do you understand? that first century
-
fathers, second century fathers, third century
-
fathers, fourth century fathers, all believed
-
in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Fact is,
-
when you get even to John Wesley and in the 1700s,
-
he was talking about the empowerment of the Holy
-
Spirit and he was a Methodist. Do you know when
-
this doctrine came in? It was a response to the
-
outpouring of the Azusa Street Revival in 1903,
-
4, 6, right in there. I don't have it on my notes.
-
The reality was it was we don't like having this
-
happen so we believe that the Holy Spirit isn't
-
for us today. It was only for the pioneering
-
of the first century apostles and the church
-
to get off the ground. That mindset. Has now
-
divided the body of Christ. And the Bible says.
-
When there is what? Division in the house. It
-
can't stand. So what has happened? The church.
-
Has only been able to stand. Around one rallying
-
truth. Of the resurrection of Jesus. The death
-
and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When it should
-
be. Rallying around the death and resurrection
-
of Jesus Christ. And the outpouring of the spirit.
-
In which we all flow in. To grow up as sons and
-
daughters. And so that's where we're headed.
-
You're saying well I don't. No, if I like that,
-
well, you don't have an option to skip Pentecost.
-
I mean, I get it. Everybody wants to go to the...
-
But the point is, it almost seems in Scripture
-
that God is still in the parking lot honking
-
the horn and saying, listen, I went to heaven
-
and I... I told you I was coming to pour out
-
the promise of the Father. Quit waiting for another
-
season when this is the season I need you to
-
embrace. Now, Jesus, son of David, I bind that
-
clock in the name of Christ. All right. Let's
-
skip ahead. I told you, Matthew, you might get
-
a little bit of a repeat next week because I
-
didn't get first service here at all. But let
-
me just give you this. Jenny, if you would come.
-
I need you to understand something that Jesus
-
says to the disciples. As he's dealing in John
-
chapter four with the woman at the well. The
-
woman at the well is an incredible passage, right?
-
It's where we get, it's where we have an understanding.
-
The father is looking for those who will worship
-
him in spirit and in truth. But do we often look
-
at the scriptures behind that, after that? Maybe
-
just turn to John chapter four. And let me just
-
give you this this morning and then we will,
-
because I want to deal with the water coming
-
out of us from the Holy Spirit. But I want you
-
to see this passage that Jesus is going to deal
-
with the disciples. After Jesus brings this whole
-
revelation to this woman, and I've got about
-
six minutes here. Right here he said, Jesus said,
-
if you knew the gift of God and who it is that
-
is saying to you, give me a drink, you would
-
have asked of him and he would have given you
-
living water. Now, last Saturday, on fire on
-
the altar, we had a special quarterly, just elongated
-
presence of God in ministry. I began to teach
-
on the scriptures on God is a giver. He is the
-
gift giver. And so this is what makes part of
-
this thing that has happened in the body of Christ
-
so heinous. Because if a gift is from him and
-
of him, is connected to him, it's holy, it's
-
righteous, it's true, it's powerful, it's living.
-
And his nature is to give that gift. Who are
-
we to say, you go ahead and keep your gift. I'm
-
not comfortable with the gifts you give. Excuse
-
me? No, I'll take salvation that will redeem
-
me because I don't want to go to hell. But I
-
don't want a gift. That I've got to lean into
-
and learn. Have you ever got a gift at Christmas
-
time or birthday that wasn't just something that
-
was already put together? Did you ever get a
-
gift that was actually your parents thought,
-
you know what? We're going to give them something
-
not only to put together, but it's going to expand
-
their mind and their understanding. We're going
-
to give you a learning gift. Anybody ever get
-
one of those? Okay. Why do you think they did
-
that? Do you think it was because I want you
-
to reject the gift? I spent this money. You thought
-
you were going to get something that was already
-
put together. It was going to be easy and you
-
could kind of numb out with the gift. And they
-
thought, no, you do enough numbing out on your
-
own. I'm going to give you something that is
-
going to now engage you. And if you're going
-
to grow into proficiency, you're going to have
-
to partner with this gift and learn to begin
-
some mastery of it. Now, it breaks down a little
-
bit because we're not the master of the Holy
-
Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our master. But the
-
Bible says that the gifts and callings of God
-
are irrevocable and that those who by reason
-
of use have sharpened their gifting. One of the
-
reasons people don't want to embrace the Holy
-
Spirit is they actually don't want to pursue
-
God rather than what they've already received
-
because pursuing means that they've got to keep
-
giving away their life of their own making. Are
-
you there? You see, Kevin, let me just... I'm
-
sorry, I picked on you. I'm just going to keep
-
going. That's the difference between tithes and
-
offerings. The tithes and offerings, tithe represents
-
something that belongs to God. I give it back
-
to him. I respond. Offering means that's the
-
portion that he said was mine. And now when I
-
get moved, I'm now giving beyond what was just
-
his. I'm now moving in a place of growth. That's
-
the difference. Think of this as the same as
-
the gift of the Holy Spirit. You get a portion
-
of the Holy Spirit. That's why John 20, 20, 20
-
was so important when Jesus went to the disciples
-
and breathed on them and said, receive the Holy
-
Spirit. They didn't start speaking in tongues.
-
They didn't start prophesying. They didn't start
-
moving in the miraculous. What did they do? They
-
received on the basis of believing him the Holy
-
Spirit that sealed them unto salvation. What
-
did Jesus tell them to do? Now go and wait for
-
the promise of the Father that I told you I would
-
send. And even when Jesus was with them for 40
-
days after the resurrection, he was teaching
-
them about the kingdom and he reemphasized to
-
them again, as he said in the book of Luke, now
-
I am going to the father to send the promise,
-
wait in Jerusalem until you're clothed with power
-
from on high. So we recognize that the Holy Spirit,
-
which is The Pentecost expression, if you will,
-
is not the Holy Spirit that it's the same spirit.
-
It seals you at the cross and revelation of the
-
resurrection of Christ to take him in as faith.
-
But there is something else that he wants you
-
to receive after salvation that's meant to build
-
on that to actually fill you, empower you to
-
do what? Begin to partner with him. Now notice
-
that Jesus, the woman hasn't even come back with
-
all her friends. And I've got to hurry. I've
-
got to move this horse into gallop here. The
-
reality is she went back after having a revelation
-
of he's talking about water. Why is he talking
-
to me? We transition to spiritual things. We
-
start talking about where do I worship? How do
-
I worship? Jesus is explaining the gift of life
-
that he is. She goes off to tell her friends.
-
He's standing around. Disciples are coming back.
-
He sees him talking to her. She leaves. Lord,
-
what is going on? And he makes this point. And
-
most of us totally miss it that it's actually
-
a Pentecost revelation. He says this. He says,
-
oh, where did it go? Chapter four. Okay, there
-
it is. He goes. she went and said, come and see
-
a man that told me all I ever did. Can this be
-
the Christ? And they went out to the town. Meanwhile,
-
the disciples were urging Jesus, eat. And Jesus
-
said, but I have food to eat that you know not
-
about. And so the disciples said to one another,
-
somebody brought him a Jimmy John's? What's going
-
on? And no. And Jesus said, he said, my food.
-
Is to do the will of him who sent me. And. Somebody
-
say and. Okay. You got to get this. Thank you
-
dear. Give me some and music. My food. Is to
-
do the will. Of the one who sent me. When you
-
pray. Pray. Your kingdom come. Your. Be done.
-
And to accomplish his work. Now notice what he
-
says. He moves into the do nots. Do not say.
-
Now he's talking to the disciples. Do not say.
-
Are you ready? Four more months. Then comes the
-
harvest. Why would he say that? Why would he
-
say, we're going to dive into this. Who knows
-
what we're going to dive into next week. I always
-
say we're going to do something and God changes
-
it on me. Why did he say four more months? Ready?
-
Passover. 50 days usually is two to three months.
-
Right in there, depending on where it falls.
-
From one month to the third month. From the third
-
month, which usually Passover is, till Trumpets
-
is what? Four months. Let me say it again. Passover
-
to Pentecost. Three feasts in the first month.
-
One feast, 50 days in the middle. From the 50th
-
day of Passover to the start of Trumpets and
-
Tabernacles and Day of Atonement, it's four months.
-
What was Jesus addressing? He was addressing
-
the mindset that is so common in church right
-
now. Okay, we're with the Lord. When's the kingdom,
-
the fullness going to happen? He picks it back
-
up. He addressed it in John 4. He picks it back
-
up in Acts chapter 1. When he says to the disciples,
Acts 1 chapter mention
-
they said, is now the time? You've raised from
-
the dead. This is before he raised from the dead.
-
When he's raised from the dead, they say in Acts
-
chapter one, verses four and five and following,
-
he says, is this the time that you will fulfill
-
the kingdom? And what did Jesus have to do? Do
-
not strive for times and seasons that the father
-
has in his own hand, but you, what did he have
-
to do? He had to bring them back to the teaching
-
that he told them in John chapter four, saying,
-
Get your perspective off of your end days and
-
get your perspective on this is the feast and
-
the understanding that brings you into partnership
-
with what? My food is to do the will of my father
-
and the work of my father. This is what Pentecost
-
is about. And if you constantly keep looking
-
for tabernacles and waiting for the... I heard
-
somebody say, when the trumpet blows, I goes.
-
But the point is, that's what the church has
-
feasted on for a long time. And what has happened,
-
the harvest has stayed in the fields. That doesn't
-
mean that we don't believe in the second coming
-
and the catching away. But the problem is our
-
whole teaching, a whole. A whole 70 years of
-
a generation, almost 80 now, has brought into
-
a teaching that is salvation immediately to tabernacles.
-
And they've missed the understanding of what
-
Pentecost is. Pentecost is where you get tools
-
from the Holy Spirit to come into the harvest.
-
that the giftings and the graces that are powered
-
by the Holy Spirit, that are released by the
-
Holy Spirit come into your hands and your heart
-
to do what? To gather the harvest. That's what
-
Pentecost was about. It was about bringing the
-
nations, stopping the one bloodline, natural
-
only, to including the natural only and all of
-
the other bloodlines Of the earth. Into one master
-
and one savior. It's Jew. And Gentile. And that's
-
why this is so important. And I believe. That's
-
why the enemy. Has tried to. Make Pentecost.
-
Seem foolish. And out of control. Or mindset
-
so that. We just move on to the next feast. When
-
Jesus said. Don't say. There's four more months
-
to the harvest. Why? The four more months that
-
they were saying was that was the last of the
-
harvest. It's wrapped up. Don't say it. Don't
-
say it. Meaning why? Because every time you focus
-
your attention on the end, you bypass the people
-
that Jesus opened up and he loves that you're
-
to gather into his barn. Would you bow your head
-
and close your eyes? Your eyes with me. Father,
-
in Jesus' name. Lord, I ask you to forgive us
-
this morning. Lord, we've all been guilty. Lord,
-
once we've come to know you to be thinking about
-
how to get out of here. Righteously. I said it
-
this week to my wife. Wouldn't it be nice just
-
to step onto an elevator to say, here you go,
-
kids. Here's my, here it is. I'm ready to go.
-
Just up. But that bypasses everything of the
-
season that we're in now. And God, I'm asking
-
you to forgive us for being so consumed with
-
self that we have not won to partner with you.
-
We've not wanted to lean in to the things of
-
the Spirit. Grow in the Spirit. allow the Holy
-
Spirit to make our flesh a little uncomfortable
-
so we would know what it means to live by the
-
Spirit, pray by the Spirit, worship by the Spirit.
-
As Jesus said in John 4, those that the Father
-
is looking for and now is those who will worship
-
him in spirit and truth. God, help us have a
-
fresh understanding in this generation that you
-
are still wanting to anoint. all of Pentecost
-
truth. You are still wanting to release by the
-
power of your spirit all that the Holy Spirit
-
can do, empower, and equip, and call each person
-
into their giftings and graces that they would
-
grow, not in word only, but in word and spirit.
-
I bless them now. And I ask that this holy fire,
-
that which is fire and wind that we sang about
-
today and we prayed for would begin to stir a
-
hunger and a pursuit on the inside of them and
-
they would be moved to lean in and to give more
-
of themselves away and get more of God in place
-
of it. Less control from me and more, more leading.
-
From you, Lord, I welcome it. And I pray this
-
