  7. enjoy this week's message. Would you open your

  8. Bibles to John chapter 4? We're going to pick

    John 4 chapter mention

  9. up. Where we left off last week, if we can. Hallelujah.

  10. Beautiful. Father, in Jesus' name, Lord, we have

  11. come to you today. And Lord, let it, as Paul

  12. said, let our prayers be, Lord, without ceasing.

  13. Lord, it's never tiresome to bring things to

  14. you. We need your covering. We need your blessing.

  15. We need your favor. We need your counsel. And

  16. Lord, this morning we ask you to come as the

  17. one who is the shepherd of our soul. The one

  18. who the scripture says in Ephesians chapter one

  19. that you have been given as the head over the

  20. church. You are the great husband, so to speak,

  21. of our faith. And we're asking you now to wash

  22. us with the water of the word. Lord, we present

  23. ourselves as your church, your church who's been

  24. born again by your sacrifice, your blood paid,

  25. Jesus Christ, for us to receive salvation. And

  26. now we come to the place, Lord, of allowing your

  27. word to minister to us deeply. Lord, some of

  28. the most simplest of verses can bring some of

  29. the greatest revelations. Lord, I'm asking to

  30. remove the stops and remove the barriers that

  31. keep us from seeing the fullness of what you

  32. have. And this morning, as you are the great

  33. feeder of your sheep, Lord, not only feed us,

  34. but wash us. As you did with the disciples, wash

  35. our feet, wash our path, wash our understanding.

  36. Cleanse us for the word that you've spoken to

  37. us and the scriptures. We've accepted Christ

  38. Jesus. Those who know you have accepted you.

  39. And Lord, your word has made us clean. Now wash

  40. us and feed us of the bread of life. In Jesus

  41. Christ's holy name, amen. All right, you're turning

  42. to John chapter four. Thank you, Jennifer, so

  43. much. Praise the Lord. John four. We've been

  44. talking about Jesus dealing with the woman at

  45. the well. We're on our slow. Remember, Jesus

  46. walked everywhere he went. So there was no motorized

  47. sermons in the scriptures. So we are walking

  48. our way slowly through the scriptures from Passover

  49. to Pentecost and that understanding of as Jesus

  50. is speaking in his three and a half years of

  51. ministry as he begins to lay down some of the

  52. and build foundation stones of truth as he introduces

  53. the truth of the Father as he is that, but also

  54. the truth of the Holy Spirit. And it's important

  55. that as we see this in John 4, that we recognize

  56. what Jesus was actually saying to the Samaritan

  57. woman, because it applies to every single one

  58. of us. John 4 .10 is kind of the key verse that

  59. we've been kind of... anchored off of last week

  60. we'll review that and just remind ourselves okay

  61. what are we talking about here John 4 10 says

  62. this Jesus answered the woman at the well he

  63. said if you knew the gift of God and who it was

  64. that says to you give me a drink you would have

  65. asked of him and he would have given you living

  66. water if you knew If you knew who it was that

  67. was around you, that was in front of you, that

  68. was constantly asking, I would just say it to

  69. you personally, for those that are here in this

  70. room, everyone that was in the sound of my voice,

  71. those online, if you knew who was speaking to

  72. you, if you knew, because God is always speaking.

  73. He's always declaring. In fact, as the scripture

  74. says in Psalms, day after day, it pours forth

  75. speech. Night after night, it declares his splendor.

  76. God is always revealing himself. He's always

  77. speaking. In fact, as the Bible says, the thoughts

  78. of God are thousands daily toward you. He's always

  79. speaking. The problem is we got to do the little

  80. tune into the frequency. I know for those that

  81. are under 30, there's a thing called a radio.

  82. And that radio, if you happen to go to your grandparents

  83. or maybe your great -grandparents, there was

  84. a little big box and it had a big old tuner on

  85. the side and a needle between the stations. And

  86. you had to, not digitally, this was before the

  87. age of digital. I know, back to the Stone Age

  88. of the 60s and 70s. You had to actually, in 30s,

  89. 40s, 50s, you had to tune that radio in to get

  90. a signal. Folks, God works on digital, of course.

  91. But the spiritual atmosphere of how you are made

  92. actually speaks to you dialing in, not just having

  93. a preset and expecting God to do it all. God

  94. is always releasing on his word and by his spirit,

  95. his truth. But he is looking for you and I to

  96. have personal responsibility. Why? Because things

  97. in our life move us off the dial. And for those

  98. of us that are somewhat old timers, let's say

  99. 50 and above, we recognize that you can have

  100. a radio back in the day set on that perfect place

  101. and just This atmosphere alone makes you redial

  102. and retune it in. Just like an instrument of

  103. guitar. If that guitar was not tuned each time

  104. we played, you wouldn't want to be in this building.

  105. Because I don't know about you, but kind of how

  106. I was raised. We raised in a conservative setting

  107. in the Mennonite church, and the church I went

  108. to didn't even have instruments. We all kind

  109. of just... heard the tune from the pitch pipe

  110. and four -part harmony man when somebody was

  111. flat or sharp it was like knuckles across the

  112. cheese grater for me the little the thing that

  113. you know nothing worse in my mind literally that's

  114. why you'll see me from time to time talk to the

  115. sound booth going they're flat turn them down

  116. or the guitars off Tell them they need to turn.

  117. I can hear it when the tune goes out. I don't

  118. like that about myself, but man, it messes with

  119. me. It's kind of like. The same thing is true

  120. just by living this life. You can find yourself,

  121. even though you're dialed into the right station,

  122. you can find yourself with a very weak signal

  123. or even. Almost missing it completely. And it

  124. takes what? It takes time in his presence to

  125. tune yourself back in. It's not that God moved.

  126. It's that we're flawed. Come on, we're flawed.

  127. And we need to always come back to recentering

  128. and to the tuning fork of heaven. And so Jesus

  129. is saying, if you knew, if you understood that

  130. God was speaking, and here's what was happening

  131. with this Samaritan woman and what happens with

  132. us. Many times we get involved in things in life.

  133. And for certainly for this woman, Jesus. Nothing

  134. was haphazard. I can't imagine knowing who God

  135. is and how he framed everything in the scripture.

  136. Even times where he said, when the disciples

  137. came to say, God, or the Pharisees, who sinned,

  138. this man or his parents? He goes, neither. It

  139. was that the works of God would be done. This

  140. Samaritan woman was picked on purpose. God always

  141. directed his son by what? Jesus being completely

  142. in tune and bringing him to the well at that

  143. time, at that point, at that day, because that

  144. was his divine appointment. And it was to remind

  145. you and I that God sees and knows everything.

  146. It was also in Jesus dealing with the Samaritan

  147. woman saying, you can get caught up in so many

  148. things. a faulty understanding, and a spirit

  149. of religion that you think you're okay even when

  150. you can't even see or hear the one who's trying

  151. to talk to you in the moment. Wow. Jesus was

  152. revealing himself to this woman and to all of

  153. us as what? The gift of God. And Jesus, by doing,

  154. saying, if you really knew who it was, that the

  155. gift of God, the gift that God, because he was

  156. quoting John. Remember, we're in the gospel of

  157. John. This is key language. For God so loved

  158. the world that he gave his only son. Jesus is

  159. the gift to bring reconciliation, to close the

  160. gap between the father and the world. If you

  161. knew the gift of God, he was saying it not only

  162. as salvation, but he was saying it as relational.

  163. Second thing Jesus was, or third thing Jesus

  164. was doing is he was revealing that the father

  165. in his nature is a gift giver. And we looked

  166. at that last week. God himself loves giving himself.

  167. If you're a gift giver, you understand this.

  168. You are giving part of yourself in that gift.

  169. And the father, Jesus was explaining, if you

  170. knew the gift of God and who it was that was

  171. saying to you, give me a drink, you would have

  172. asked him and he would have given you living

  173. water. That's really kind of perplexing that

  174. Jesus would put it that way. But he was saying,

  175. listen, I'm asking you something. Because what

  176. you're giving me is small compared to the gift

  177. that God wants to actually give you. I'm trying

  178. to get you. Notice he was trying to get the woman

  179. to cross over her reservations to receive a gift

  180. that was beyond her wildest imaginations. So

  181. many times. We limit the gift of God and we limit

  182. God as the gift giver because we have mindsets

  183. that stop us from actually crossing over and

  184. receiving. I don't mean that in a weird way.

  185. I mean actually receiving God's perspective,

  186. his love, and the gifts that he has for us. This

  187. leads us to the next point. We can put it on

  188. the screen. The gift of God wants to be known.

  189. Not only is God a gift giver, if we have to begin

  190. to put in our mind that is who God the Father

  191. is. He is a gift giver. Now people have taken

  192. this and moved it to an extreme. They've moved

  193. it to an extreme, let's just say prosperity type

  194. gospel. It does not remove the fact that God

  195. does not He does desire to prosper you, but that

  196. is not the only thing that God wants to do. And

  197. when we boil it down to just material things

  198. or prosperity of wealth, that is the smallest

  199. issue in what he comes to bring. This is where

  200. it has to come back under the balance of the

  201. whole scripture. Just like when we give to the

  202. Lord of our tithes and offerings. Tithes and

  203. offerings of obedience and of faith is the smallest

  204. of all the things that he asks of us. The greater

  205. gifts are all the other gifts above that. Yet

  206. it's still included. Same with prosperity. I

  207. didn't mean to even get on this topic, but because

  208. it's so much in the news stream that the perversion

  209. of it is that's all people talk about. That shouldn't

  210. be all people talk about, but it includes who

  211. God is. And so there has to be an understanding

  212. that God brings his gift to every level of your

  213. life. Every level. Now, let's move on. Jesus

  214. is saying to the woman and to every person, especially

  215. of the Gentiles as he was in the realm of Samaria.

  216. And Samaria, again, for those that are listening

  217. here, Samaria was a mixed, what used to be where

  218. God's people, he had two... 12 tribes, two stayed

  219. in the land of Judah, 10 got dispersed and Samaria

  220. became known as a place of mixture. So just even

  221. Jesus dealing at this well, it is a picture of

  222. God doesn't forget. Oh my goodness, I gotta come

  223. down here and preach this. God does not forget

  224. places where he put truth in your life. He was

  225. standing by the well of the forefathers. That

  226. was prophetic even in itself. It was a type and

  227. shadow. God came to do what? Still bring up the

  228. water of truth that was once dug for to actually

  229. provide for his people long ago. And even when

  230. you stray, God still comes to bring you back

  231. to places where truth doesn't change. You moved.

  232. Here Jesus is sitting at this well. Of course

  233. he could have commanded, cup, be formed, water,

  234. come in it. But he didn't. Why? Because it was

  235. a prophetic statement of saying God always uses

  236. and partners with people to bring about God's

  237. revelation and encounter. He doesn't just do

  238. things by himself. He can. He could do it all

  239. by himself. But he's chosen from the very place

  240. of pattern to always include us in the understanding

  241. of God, in the revealing of God, and in the releasing

  242. of who God is. That's why he's called the gift

  243. giver. He's constantly giving and wanting that

  244. gift to get in you and through you. Because that's

  245. his nature. He's saying to the woman, My people

  246. know that God gives gifts. Listen, she gave the

  247. excuse. You people worship here, we worship there.

  248. Jesus had to correct some things. Sometimes I

  249. listen to people and I read all sorts of things

  250. and watch all sorts of things as time allows

  251. me of various different commentaries of how people

  252. view things. And people always want to say that

  253. Jesus didn't correct things. I'm like, have you

  254. read the scriptures? Okay, let's just read it.

  255. This is a correction. Salvation is of the Jews.

  256. He didn't say, you are wrong. He was saying,

  257. you are wrong. Your answer? Now, he didn't get

  258. nasty about it, but he literally said the truth.

  259. Salvation is of the Jews. Everything that you

  260. thought. It's not. Change. You've had your perspective.

  261. You've lived in it. You've thought it. You've

  262. rehearsed it with those that were around you.

  263. But your encounter with God is gonna require

  264. you to come to a different conclusion. Folks,

  265. in that statement alone, Jesus was releasing

  266. what repentance really is. It's the changing,

  267. of the position of your heart and your mind to

  268. agree with what God says. And Jesus was saying,

  269. but you have not known. Listen, my people know

  270. God gives gifts. You have not known the gifts,

  271. nor have you known the nature of God's gifts

  272. or his goodness, because you've not known the

  273. true and living God. That's what he was really

  274. saying to the Samaritan woman. If you knew. But

  275. because of where you've come from, because of

  276. the mindset of what you've surrounded yourself

  277. with, and because you've embraced not only a

  278. political persuasion, but a religious persuasion,

  279. you've separated yourself from us on the basis

  280. of, yes, there was injustice from this group.

  281. There was religious pride from this group. Yes,

  282. there was all sorts of things that made you feel

  283. inferior. But that does not negate where you

  284. have to get to actually come to the source of

  285. truth. You can't bring truth to validate where

  286. you live. You still have to come and embrace

  287. truth and come from where you live to where he

  288. is at. It's a big deal. What do I mean by that?

  289. Jesus is saying, if you really knew. If you knew

  290. God's nature in his heart, you would then want

  291. what he has. And Jesus continuing in this dialogue

  292. in John 10 and 11 says, if you knew, you would

  293. have asked. You would have asked in the English

  294. language, actually is one word in the Greek,

  295. eteo. It means, You would have asked means to

  296. crave, to call, to desire, and to require yourself

  297. to find out. What's he saying here? He's saying

  298. something way deeper. He's saying, if you knew

  299. who it was that was standing, the gift of God

  300. that was in front of you, and you knew who it

  301. was that was asking you, give me a drink. Give

  302. me. Give me what you can give me. Give me your,

  303. that's all that you have. Just give me a drink.

  304. If you knew who it was, you would have asked.

  305. If you knew who it was, there would have been

  306. a, should have been. If you knew. Instilled from

  307. the knowing comes a craving and a desire and

  308. a automatic. Something inside of you that would

  309. require of your own heart to search it out for

  310. more. This now is starting to hit some pay dirt.

  311. Because what I'm saying to you here, it not only

  312. is Bible, but it confronts mindsets that said,

  313. if all I get is Jesus, that's all I need. Fact

  314. is, if you actually got Jesus, if you actually

  315. knew who it was, Eric, I'm gonna pick on you

  316. because you sat on the front row, okay? If you

  317. knew who it was, there would be something automatically

  318. from the Lord that the minute you said yes to

  319. Jesus, something would come inside of you that

  320. if you wouldn't fight it, would automatically

  321. say, I need more of him. I want more of him.

  322. I desire more of him. I mean, and isn't that

  323. exactly, I mean, I'm not picking on you, but

  324. I am picking on you. Isn't that exactly what

  325. happened? The moment you said, I'm rededicating

  326. my mind, what took place? Something that never

  327. took place before. Something prior was shelved.

  328. The moment you began to really know what took

  329. place, all of a sudden it began almost like it

  330. was a a rope climbing inside of you. It began

  331. to pull you into a place of, I've got to know

  332. him more. Folks, that is the nature of the Holy

  333. Spirit. And that is the nature of really knowing

  334. God. It will pull you. from where you've been.

  335. And there will be a consciousness of the spirit

  336. of God inside of you that says you must have

  337. more of him. And it isn't just about, you know,

  338. chasing after All of the things out there, it's

  339. actually an inward thing that says, I must know

  340. him at his word. I must know him as truth. And

  341. I must know him in the spirit. It's all three

  342. of those things. Because if you only chase after

  343. one, you stop embracing the fullness of truth

  344. and only get partial truth. Are you there? This

  345. is really, really important. If you knew, ateo,

  346. if you really knew, you would have asked to crave,

  347. to call, to ask, to desire. Do you understand

  348. that ask? Until now, when Jesus said to his disciples,

  349. until now, you've asked nothing in my name. Why

  350. was that? Because Jesus had been with them at

  351. every level. And now he was going to be with

  352. them at every level, but he was not going to

  353. be tangibly, physically with them. That's why

  354. he left that statement until the very last week

  355. of his life as he was saying, until now you've

  356. asked nothing in my name. Ask! that you may receive,

  357. that your joy may be full. Why would he say that?

  358. Because he was transitioning them from just having

  359. personal proximity in a relationship. He was

  360. transitioning them to what they needed to move

  361. into, to life of the Spirit and the Word. They

  362. had not experienced it to that point. they'd

  363. only experienced living with the word that's

  364. why John could write in the very first and the

  365. word came and the word was manifest and we beheld

  366. him as the only son of God verse 14 of John chapter

    John 1 chapter mention

  367. 1 full of grace and truth But Jesus would move

  368. them from beholding the Son as a short three

  369. and a half years of actually embodied in the

  370. flesh. And he was moving them in the journey

  371. to get them past a physical thing into a what?

  372. A spiritual thing where they would fellowship

  373. with the Spirit of the Holy Spirit and the Holy

  374. Word of Truth. And that's why he told them. That

  375. they hadn't asked anything. Why? Because everything

  376. they'd had at this point was dependent upon what

  377. Jesus did for them without actually putting any

  378. faith really on the line. You say, where do you

  379. get that? Well, go back and read how many times

  380. did Jesus say, oh, ye of little faith. Or like

  381. I tell David Straub, how long must I be with

  382. you? I mean, the reality being, I mean, that

  383. was constant pull that Jesus was reminding them

  384. of their lack of actually tapping into who the

  385. father was and they were dependent upon his relationship.

  386. trying to move them to be dependent upon the

  387. same spirit of God that he was now operating

  388. in. And that's why this encounter with the woman

  389. at the well is so important. Because it's leading

  390. you. It was leading her, and please get this,

  391. past religion. It's the only thing that will

  392. lead you out of religion. Because as a Samaritan,

  393. You got to see this. Her answer was, well, you

  394. Jews say to worship God is over there, but we

  395. worship here. And I know someday when Jesus returns,

  396. when Messiah comes, he'll tell us all things.

  397. And Jesus had to say, I'm he. And I haven't been

  398. telling you all things. But she couldn't understand

  399. it. Why? Because religion and then her excuses

  400. of her own lifestyle kept her bound, keeping

  401. everything about God out there. Because to bring

  402. God in means what? She felt convicted. Are you

  403. doing okay? You see, you have to step out of

  404. your mindset for a moment. It's not about tradition.

  405. It's not about religion. then you would, if you

  406. allow yourself as you're pursuing God, if you'll

  407. allow yourself to step out of religious precepts,

  408. I will never tell you to step out of the truth.

  409. No one should ever tell you to step out of truth.

  410. But let's make sure that you're calling truth

  411. what really is truth. There's a lot of people

  412. that want to call truth the way they've been

  413. doing things. And that is not truth. That's your

  414. own home -brewed version of just stuff. And it

  415. has shreds, it has shavings of truth, but it

  416. is not standing in the truth. So you have to

  417. actually, and this is where we separate the sheep

  418. from the goats. Right? Jesus said, I'm going

  419. to separate the sheep from the goats. Why? What's

  420. the nature of a goat? The nature of a goat is

  421. similar to the sheep. Fact is, even in the law,

  422. as under the Mosaic covenant, you could bring

  423. a kid goat that would exactly be a representative

  424. of a lamb. A goat could be accepted at the young

  425. age. But at a full -grown age, it was not accepted.

  426. Meaning what? At the beginning of their life,

  427. there was no real difference between a kid goat

  428. and a lamb. But the moment you get past that

  429. year, because that's the definition of a lamb,

  430. a year old lamb is the end of it. It now moves

  431. from lamb to sheep, or it moves from kid to goat.

  432. And the question is, what's the nature of a goat?

  433. The nature of a sheep By nature or the nature

  434. of a lamb is what? It does not. How do I say

  435. this carefully? It does not choose its own way

  436. above what is revealed. It allows the shepherd

  437. to lead it. The nature of a goat will choose

  438. when the shepherd leads it. The lamb. The sheep

  439. hears the shepherd's voice and follows. That's

  440. why we're always called sheep. Not because we're

  441. defenseless, which we are, which we're helpless,

  442. which we are, which we often can't take of ourselves.

  443. True. Not because of all of those things, but

  444. because of primarily what? Because Our life spiritually

  445. is to be like a sheep that hears the nearness

  446. and the fellowship of the shepherd in which we

  447. trust. And we trust the nature of the shepherd

  448. over what our eyes, our emotions, and our own

  449. will want. A goat is different. A goat will eat

  450. everything. Now this is important. One of the

  451. reasons he divides the sheep from the goat is

  452. because the goat will not discriminate and actually

  453. have a filter of what it should eat and what

  454. it shouldn't. It will eat things that are filled

  455. with mixture and that are not good for itself.

  456. A goat will choose to butt and to run its own

  457. way. When it decides to. It's why the Bible uses

  458. the difference between do not be like a mule.

  459. Have you ever ridden a mule or had a mule? I

  460. can tell you I've had experiences with mules.

  461. They can be some of the best animals on pack

  462. travel. Several years, dad and I drew Snake River.

  463. In the Snake River unit in Hell's Canyon between

  464. Idaho and Oregon, we drew tags to go into the

  465. wilderness unit and hunt elk. Dad had a mule.

  466. Cousins had a mule. Of course, Dad would keep

  467. his mule and I had to borrow a mule. Borrowed

  468. mules are faulty. And so here we are 27 miles

  469. back off the trail. We're 27 miles deep into

  470. the Hell's Canyon wilderness. And just for reference,

  471. Hell's Canyon is the deepest canyon in North

  472. America. It's greater depth than Grand Canyon.

  473. And we are in the pucker brush. We are back in

  474. Hell's Canyon. We are back on mules. We packed

  475. everything out. Everyone is there. And all of

  476. a sudden we're hiking up. this treacherous trail

  477. where even horses don't go, but mules are more

  478. sheer footed until they decide to do their own

  479. thing. Now this is the nature of a goat as well.

  480. It had been raining. And so I'm wearing a rain

  481. slicker and rain pants. I had not spent a huge

  482. amount of time in the saddle. And I forgot about

  483. this one key thing called the saddle horn that

  484. sits right in front of you. Everybody else's

  485. mule keeps climbing. My mule hears something.

  486. And I felt like Yosemite Sam on Looney Tunes.

  487. I said, whoa, whoa, whoa. Bing, bing, bing, bing,

  488. bing, bing, bing. And up the trail and on the

  489. saddle horn do I bounce over and over. And by

  490. the time, by the time my mule finally came to

  491. rest, I couldn't get off the mule. My dad looked

  492. at me and goes, what's the problem? I said, we

  493. were playing the game with the pogo paddle at

  494. the balls. I said, I kept saying, whoa, whoa.

  495. And if you remember that little loony tune that

  496. says, whoa, dragon. I said, whoa, dragon. That's

  497. the exact, I wanted to shoot that mule right

  498. there. And just put a couple of antlers on it

  499. and say, here's my elk. Now, I'm telling that

  500. story just to, it's funny now. It was not funny

  501. then. There were still seven more miles to ride

  502. back into base camp. And the nature of that stubborn

  503. mule, the nature of it would do what it wanted.

  504. Nobody else's mule would do it. Why? Because

  505. it knew its rider. But the rider that didn't

  506. have it, it knew me. Oh, and I hated it. Goats

  507. are the same way. You can turn your back and

  508. they'll do what? Immediately butt you. Just look

  509. up some videos on goats and their nature. They

  510. will, but you'll think that you have just, you've

  511. fed it, you have watered it, you have done everything

  512. you know to do and the nature of it depends on

  513. whether it likes you or not or the time of the

  514. day. It will go for you. That's why Jesus said

  515. he would separate the sheep from the goats. Why?

  516. Because in the nature of a goat, it's a rebellious,

  517. stubborn streak. It will do what it wants to

  518. do regardless of who and what has been placed

  519. in front of it. Sometimes it obeys and sometimes

  520. it doesn't. It can't be relied on. This is what

  521. the Holy Spirit was actually trying to get into

  522. the Samaritan woman's mindset. He was saying,

  523. listen, if you'll step out of this religious

  524. thing that you've built and allowed the culture

  525. to frame your understanding of how you can worship

  526. God. You see, you need to understand the Samaritan

  527. woman, are you ready? Was a worshiper of God.

  528. You say, well, show me where in the Bible God

  529. dealt with mixture. Right here. Because she was

  530. able to tell Jesus where they worshiped. And

  531. she was able to tell Jesus that she believed

  532. that she was worshiping the same God as the Jews.

  533. It just was different. So it means that there

  534. was actually a heart to want to worship God.

  535. a heart that actually performed worship of whatever

  536. degree, and in her mind, because she was sincere,

  537. she saw it as truth. I'm gonna say this, and

  538. I don't mean it to be too shocking, but there's

  539. a lot of people that come into a worship service

  540. and actually don't worship the true Jesus. They

  541. worship the Jesus of their own mind. They're

  542. not worshiping the Jesus of the scriptures. Okay,

  543. we'll keep going. I'm not gonna leave you there.

  544. If you would step out of your mindset, if you

  545. would step out of your understanding, if you

  546. would step out of what has... relegated you,

  547. Jesus would have given. That word given is the

  548. word didio me. In the Greek, it means I would

  549. have granted you. I would have given you. I love

  550. this word didio me. It means I would reach out

  551. to you. I would give you something that you could

  552. administer. That word didio me means something

  553. of a gift that has administration to it. Do you

  554. understand that the gift that God gives you,

  555. there's a lot here, that's why I'm diving through

  556. this chapter. What it's saying is every gift

  557. from God, if it's legitimate, has administration

  558. protocol in it. Meaning, there will require stewardship.

  559. Administration is stewardship. It's not just

  560. about... that you have to steward money. I'm

  561. talking about if God gives you the gift of faith,

  562. you have to administrate and steward faith. If

  563. God gives you the gift of healing, you have to

  564. steward healing, Chrislin. There is a steward.

  565. That's why the Bible says in Hebrews, by reason

  566. of use. Come on, by reason of what? Use. That

  567. means you've employed it. That means your gift

  568. isn't standing around waiting for you to come

  569. by the field one day, just standing there over

  570. and over until you think about it. Your gift

  571. actually that he gives you is meant to be employed.

  572. That doesn't mean it works for you. It means

  573. that you're actually working for the Lord and

  574. administrating what he's put inside of you. Think

  575. about it. That's part of the gift. That's part

  576. of the grant. And see, let's just talk about

  577. it just with basic salvation grace. The reality

  578. is this, when God gives you an encounter and

  579. you accept it, you see, you understand who Jesus

  580. is, that he is the only begotten son of God,

  581. that he died for you and he made it personal

  582. for you. And you say, yes, Lord, forgive me.

  583. And I said, I accept you as Lord and savior of

  584. my life. That is not where that ends. Now the

  585. employment and the administration of that gift

  586. begins because now you begin to walk with an

  587. understanding of who you are that was different

  588. the moment that happened versus who you were.

  589. God says that when whoever is in... 2 Corinthians

  590. 5, 17. If any person is in Christ, they are a

  591. new creation. The old is gone and the new has

  592. come. That is his language of saying, you're

  593. not who you were defined by your mistakes. You're

  594. not defined by what you came out of or who your

  595. parents were. You're not defined by your family

  596. history. You're not defined. I just read an article

  597. this morning of a guy found out that his dad

  598. was Charles Manson. He never knew for 40 years.

  599. Your dad's not Charles Manson. Okay. The reality

  600. is when, I don't think, no, I'm messing with

  601. you. The reality is it doesn't matter what family

  602. line or what heinous things have been taking

  603. place. The moment Christ, you receive Jesus Christ

  604. and he forgives you, your identity spiritually

  605. is new. And with the new, he gives the ability

  606. now for you to begin. He teaches you in administration

  607. of that understanding. And that understanding

  608. is to follow you through every decision in life.

  609. So like when I'm getting over here and going

  610. to this guy in the red hat over here, the reality

  611. is, Kirk, when now he came to Christ, and I know

  612. that he has, I've seen it, what happens? The

  613. filter of where he was and what he's been starts

  614. to think and put that thinking different in front

  615. of him because It requires something inside of

  616. it, not of a heavy weight or a burden, but it

  617. actually begins to be a new Holy Spirit filter

  618. that says, you must administrate me continually.

  619. That's not a heavy burden. It is the process

  620. of your thinking is renewed and you begin to

  621. think according to your new identity, not according

  622. to who you were. And how many know in this room

  623. that your old nature pops up frequently trying

  624. to redefine who you are. And that's why you must

  625. continually administrate the mind of Christ with

  626. the gift that he gives. Jesus said, if you would,

  627. he would have given, you would have asked, he

  628. would have given, he would have. furnished. Here

  629. again, some more words, reach out, grant, give

  630. something to administer, to furnish, to extend

  631. and present. That's the heart of the father to

  632. give to you, to furnish, to you, to extend himself

  633. and present himself to you so that what he gives

  634. of himself would now he could help you administer

  635. what he gave you. We would say this to our children

  636. if we have the ability. As they age older, have

  637. you noticed that the gifts that they want also

  638. increase? The value. You know, as a kid, a Hot

  639. Wheels toy was like, okay. Well, it used to be

  640. like a buck 09 at Buy Mart when I was a kid.

  641. But the reality now, a Hot Wheels toy, a $7 gift

  642. could actually keep them employed for hours.

  643. But now at the age of 15, 16, 17, you give them

  644. a Hot Wheels toy for Christmas, they think you've

  645. just excommunicated them from the family. There

  646. are things that as they grow up, they have what?

  647. A deeper desire for things of more value. That's

  648. the whole point of the gifts. As you grow up

  649. in Christ, you begin to desire the deeper, even

  650. not that the other gifts are more valuable than

  651. salvation. They are add to the treasure of the

  652. salvation. I would have given, even today, world,

  653. the flesh, the devil, try to convince us that

  654. God is limited. And God's gifts, this is the

  655. mindset of the world. And even in some Christian

  656. cultures, that God is limited. He's haphazard.

  657. He's fickle. He's moody. It's better to play

  658. it safe with your heart with God so that you

  659. don't get disappointed in believing him. Am I

  660. speaking to the right group of people? All of

  661. these thoughts, if you're really honest with

  662. yourself, have come to you. Luke 11, 13 says

  663. it this way. How much will your Father in heaven

  664. give the Holy Spirit to those who ask? Again,

  665. ask. Eteo, I'll reach out, I'll extend, I'll

  666. grant, I'll give you a gift of administration.

  667. I'll come to you. How much more is that in regard

  668. to the Holy Spirit than any other gift that you

  669. ask? John 4, 22 says this. Jesus, looking to

  670. her, says, you worship. Notice how Jesus, again,

  671. validates that this Samaritan woman worshiped.

  672. You worship what you do not know. You can be

  673. in full -scale worship and not know. Come on,

  674. just let that sit for a moment. We worship what

  675. we know for salvation is of the Jews. What's

  676. he saying? He's saying, listen, if you knew it

  677. was not about the place of ground, if you knew

  678. it was not about the style or form, but if you

  679. actually had an encounter with the one who really

  680. is, it would change you. Jesus was speaking to

  681. the Samaritan woman saying, if you would lay

  682. down what you think you know and all of their

  683. justifications, you would come to know who he

  684. is. The thing, Jenny, if you'd come to the piano,

  685. sweetheart, thank you. The thing that the word

  686. of the Lord came this morning in the prayer room.

  687. And as we met with the staff and team early this

  688. morning is that God was changing and God was

  689. not going to allow hardness of heart to stay

  690. in his worshipers. That he was bringing down

  691. the stone towers of pride so that people could

  692. actually see who he was. And he's both. He is

  693. the God of spirit and he's the God of truth.

  694. His Holy Spirit is truth and his word is truth.

  695. He is responsible for what is actually truth.

  696. You can actually worship in spirit and not be

  697. in the spirit of truth. That's what the Samaritan

  698. woman was doing. She was worshiping. according

  699. to the spirit of her age, of her culture, of

  700. her understanding. And she believed that she

  701. was actually connecting. But she wasn't actually

  702. connecting to truth. The same with people that

  703. say, well, all I need is the word of God. Well,

  704. then you're missing the other part that God said

  705. is truth. He's called the spirit of truth. Which

  706. means you can actually worship God and only partially

  707. connect with what he has for you if only you

  708. choose a word -only perspective. Why? Because

  709. the Father says, and we all know these verses

  710. and we can quote them, the Father is looking

  711. for those who will now worship him in what? Spirit.

  712. Oh, let's try it again. Spirit. Not or. And.

  713. Not, I just worship in spirit, but I don't really

  714. want that truth stuff. Not or. I'll choose word

  715. or spirit. God gives us a choice. No. He says

  716. the Father is looking for those who will worship

  717. him in spirit and in truth. That's why when Jesus

  718. presented himself, we'll say to the Samaritan

  719. side and to the Jewish side, he was speaking

  720. to both groups because each group. had found

  721. a way that they were validated in, in saying

  722. they knew God and loved God and God should affirm

  723. them in what was there. And yet the truth that

  724. was operating in both was standing right in front

  725. of them and neither group was able to identify.

  726. Why? Because it didn't come the way they thought

  727. truth should look. And that's why Jesus had to

  728. break through to this. In his gracious approach

  729. to the Samaritan woman, he's saying, listen,

  730. if you would allow your heart to actually be

  731. open to the truth, you would recognize that the

  732. truth was right before you. I'm going to put

  733. a pin in this today. We may come back to it next

  734. week. I don't know. But I want to talk to us

  735. this morning as we close and get ready to close

  736. as Pastor Scott comes and gives us a couple of

  737. announcements in just a moment. I am compelled

  738. by the Spirit of God this morning. The Holy Spirit

  739. is here. He is. There were several key prophetic,

  740. I'm going to call it visions this morning. Of

  741. Jesus standing as the lion and the lamb. Notice

  742. Jesus highlights in John 4. He said the Father

  743. is looking for those who will worship in spirit

  744. and in truth. That was in John 4. John 1, as

  745. the Apostle John writes the beginning of his...

  746. salutations and his opening argument of his gospel.

  747. He goes, and we beheld him. John chapter one,

  748. verse 14, and we saw him. The word of God made

  749. flesh and we beheld his glory. Notice the next

  750. statement that he would say that would be the

  751. beginning salvo that would go all the way through

  752. the gospel of John is he was full. of grace and

  753. truth. What's he saying? Full of the Spirit and

  754. full of accuracy from God's perspective. Full.

  755. There wasn't an either or. He never sided to

  756. one or not. He accepted both the fullness of

  757. the Holy Spirit. That's why the Bible would say

  758. in another place, the Spirit was on him without

  759. measure. It means the spirit of grace, the spirit

  760. of counsel, the spirit of power, the spirit of

  761. might, the anointing, the revelation, every prophetic

  762. word of knowledge, gifting, everything that comes

  763. from the Holy Spirit was on him in fullness.

  764. Yet what? Jesus never used that to divorce himself

  765. from the truth. It was always the spirit and

  766. truth. And that's what made him the fullness

  767. of truth. That's what he's asking from us. It's

  768. not that you have to come up with the truth or

  769. come up with the spirit. We have no part in that.

  770. Our job is to what? Know him. Just like he stood

  771. in front of the Samaritan woman and he stands

  772. in front of every person. He said, if you really

  773. knew. who it was. If you'll not remove the truth

  774. and you'll not sidestep the spirit and you'll

  775. allow your heart to read my word and experience

  776. me from setting aside your religious mindsets

  777. and any hurts or any other type of thing that's

  778. tried to shape you beside what my word and my

  779. spirit desire to shape you, then you will do

  780. what? You will encounter the one who gives. living

  781. water it's it's the living water it's the thing

  782. that we drink from constantly would you would

  783. you just bow your heads for a moment father even

  784. now lord i am praying in this room god we come

  785. From a variety of backgrounds. Some having no

  786. understanding of who you are. Some grown up hearing

  787. about you. Some along the way like me and others.

  788. Lord, we've received, but we need more. And we're

  789. asking, Lord, for you to help set aside preconceived

  790. ideas that we would not make any more justifications.

  791. of why we don't have to yield to your word and

  792. to your spirit. You would remove from us the

  793. heart of pride. You would remove from us the

  794. mindset that says what we have is good enough.

  795. And God, you would ignite in us that drawing

  796. capacity of administration of what you've put

  797. inside of our hearts that says to pursue, to

  798. go after, to draw on you, not only from the word

  799. of God, but from your Holy Spirit and fellowship.

  800. If you're here this morning and you have not

  801. had an encounter where you could say, I know

  802. Jesus. I've been reached out to. I've been extended

  803. the grace. I know him. I've taken him into my

  804. heart and my mind. I've received him as who he

  805. is. as savior and as my king. And I live under

  806. the counsel of his word and his direction. If

  807. you have not had that, I'm telling you as king

  808. and as shepherd, he is looking to draw you and

  809. change your nature from goat to sheep this morning.

  810. Shepherd comes to ignite your heart to hear his

  811. voice. And if you have not met him and know him,

  812. I'm inviting you now by the Spirit of God to

  813. come to know him. If there's anyone in this room

  814. that would say, yes, I want to invite him in.

  815. I want to hear the shepherd's voice. I want to

  816. encounter the shepherd's kindness and his grace

  817. in my life. Would you just be so bold right now?

  818. I'll send somebody to you. Just lift one of your

  819. hands up high and say, that's me, preacher. watching

  820. all around I'm going to send my team back to

  821. you because we love you and we want to pray with

  822. you and we want to encounter Christ with you

  823. well I'm asking that if there's those here this

  824. morning who say you know what I've been bringing

  825. a worship that I didn't realize was more directed

  826. toward my liking than what was honoring fully

  827. of the Lord and I want to fully connect with

  828. Jesus I want to bring my perspective and exalt

  829. myself. What makes me feel good? I want to worship

  830. the King. And I'm asking now, Jesus, that you

  831. would forgive me and you would break off every

  832. wall that I've created. If that's you, I'd say,

  833. you know what? I can pray that prayer. Would

  834. you just lift your hand before the Lord and say,

  835. that's me, Lord. I need to break some walls down.

  836. I've created something in my own heart and mind.

  837. Yes. Lord, you see, come on, just lift those

  838. hands. Thank you. Thank you, Jesus. Lord, every

  839. hand that's being lifted, every mindset that

  840. is now surrendering to you and to your word and

  841. to your Holy Spirit. Lord, those that are calling

  842. on the name of the Lord for the very first time

  843. and those that are saying, Lord, I'm sorry, I've

  844. made this more about me. My likes, my dislikes,

  845. the way I want it done. Come back to saying,

  846. it's about you. Cleanse me. Forgive me. Wash
