So today we're gonna have some fun.

I just want you to be prepared for what might uh take place.

We're gonna laugh.

That's gonna be cool.

But today, what I'm gonna talk to you in the midst of laughter is I'm gonna talk to you about uh how there's a baby crying here.

I'm gonna wait.

Okay, that was quick.

Wow.

So I'm gonna talk to you about conflict and how it is a key to laughter and peace.

Ooh, how is conflict the key to laughter and peace?

I don't know.

Let's find out.

So there's three things that I'm gonna want you to do after you go home.

Super important that you do these three things, but I can't explain them to you right now.

It's pretty dope.

So, how is it that conflict is the is a key to laughter and peace?

All right, so the other day I'm going to this uh this business.

I walk into this business, and it's clear that they don't want to serve me because of the color of my skin.

I'm not going back to that tanning salon.

I'm just I ain't going back.

Listen, the only reason I went into a tanning salon is because I wanted to come out of a tanning salon.

I timed it perfect too.

I timed it perfect.

I was walking out and these two little white ladies was walking in.

I was like, yo, they didn't calibrate their machines.

They didn't calibrate.

Be careful.

But I do know how to snap on beat now, so I just that lady was like, where's that place at?

I'd I'd love to learn how to dance.

Why do we just laugh at that?

Because there's some conflict in what I just told you.

A black person going to a tangent line.

The conflict didn't make sense.

It caused a revelation, caused you to laugh.

So we're gonna learn some more about conflict.

Here's one thing that I just found out recently through this pandemic.

I don't know if y'all know it's like a pandemic, think we're coming out of it, but it is going on.

One thing I learned is uh apparently um I'm not I'm not essential.

I found that out.

I thought I was.

I read the Bible, everything.

The government was like, sit yourself down somewhere.

Another really good thing that came out of this pandemic, I don't know if you guys have paid attention to this or not, but the flu is gone.

That is amazing.

Like, it's like the flu flew.

Like it ain't here no more.

And you know what else is missing that we really didn't need anyway?

Bad breath.

Because they gotta have a mask on now, and now they know that it was their breath this whole time.

You tried to tell them, but every time you tried to tell them, you stand in front of them, your eyes start burning.

You're like, never mind, never mind, never mind.

Now they know.

Another thing I learned through this, uh, I wear a mask pretty much everywhere.

When it was real thick, I would always wear a mask.

I would only take my mask off if I had to sneeze.

That's the only reason I would take it off.

Because I don't want to keep that to myself.

And I found one of my old masks.

I grew up in Michigan, I found a ski mask.

So I would wear a ski mask around in Dallas.

I was wearing a ski mask, man.

That's crazy, man.

Went to the bank.

Went to the bank, too, went to the bank.

Um and I didn't want to get the germs on the people, right?

So I would just slide notes and be like, there you go.

Mm-hmm.

Just not having my hand in my pocket too the whole time.

I was just like.

I just made this part up right now.

I don't know how they do at your schools, but when I take my son to school, this is what they would do.

I would pull up, take my son to school, and before he could get out the car, they would take his temperature.

Like before he got out of the car.

And then when I go pick him up, they try to put him right in the car.

I don't think so.

We need to take his temperature first.

No, he was fine when I dropped him off.

Now you just gonna try to shove him in the car?

I don't think so.

They're like, you holding up the carpool line.

I'm like, I don't care, I'm taking his temperature.

If you're under 20 years old, you have no idea what I'm doing right now.

You don't even know what this is.

My son was like, Dad, this is embarrassing.

I'm like, you know what?

There's two ways we could do this.

I'm gonna point that out.

There's another way.

Listen, why was that ever okay?

That should have never been okay, ever.

Some of y'all need freedom from that right now.

He was, that's just this thing is a little itchy though.

Like it moves around, it's all weird and itchy feeling.

I'm gonna just get this real quick.

Okay, cool, cool.

I'm gonna do this.

I guess this is the Lord telling me, you know what, do this right here.

That's what you're gonna do.

Okay, cool.

It's a little itchy weird.

So my dad used to read stories to us all the time, right?

And uh, but he would change the books, he would change the stories based off of based off our current circumstances.

He would always change it.

One one author he would read to us was a guy named uh DJ Seuss.

I don't know if you heard of DJ Seuss?

Yeah, yeah.

One of the books was uh The Cat and the Rat.

I don't know if you read that book before.

It was Green Eggs and Spam.

That was a good one.

That was a good one.

There's another author, the book, what was the name of the book?

Oh, Winnie was Poe.

I don't know if you know that one or not.

My favorite line in that book was Tigger please.

That was my favorite.

My white friends have no idea what to do with that joke.

Tigger please.

Checking with black people, make sure they can laugh.

Is that okay?

So I'm gonna rehash a story with you that I shared with you before.

It's about me growing up at church.

And the reason I want to share this story, well, I'll just jump in.

I'm gonna tell you why.

So when I was a kid, I was, when I was a kid, I was seven, like most of y'all.

So at seven years old, my grandmother used to force me to go to this church.

It was miserable.

It was miserable.

My my my clothes were too tight.

I used to wear this sh- my this shirt was super tight.

It was, I still remember, it was a white and brown shirt.

It was actually just white, but the buttons would open up, and then my brown flesh would be like it was super tight, and then my shoes were like three sizes too small.

But I had on these slippery black socks, and my grandmother had this thing called a shoehorn.

So if you're if the foot don't fit in the shoe, now it does.

Church lasts six hours.

And I'm in a basement, and then we go in the basement after six hours, then we come back up and eat a sandwich.

It was just miserable.

One time I go to church, there's a dead body in the front.

Nobody explained to a seven-year-old Michael Jr., it's a funeral, it's not church.

I'm thinking that's how they roll.

Like every once in a while they bring a dead body in as an example or something.

And the dude on stage would yell at us because he had some phlegm caught in his throat.

Because at the end of every sentence, he would always try to get it out.

He'd be like, the Lord said aha.

And it was the scariest thing ever.

Like, that stuff was crazy scary.

It made zero sense at all.

Like it was just, it was weird.

It's kind of like this thing, man.

I'll just, I'm gonna have to get this for you.

Okay, how about we just can we just change this out?

Is that cool if we just change this one out?

Because I might need it just because this is kind of new for me.

So now, here's what man, you quick.

You were all black just for me, man.

I appreciate that.

So, conflict, as you noticed just now, we were laughing.

And the reason we're laughing, because every all of the stories I told you has some conflict in them somewhere.

But conflict doesn't just, it's not just a key to laughter, it's also a key to finding peace.

So, my uh, me and my wife, we got this house, right?

And then God told us that people were gonna come to our house from different parts of the country, and we're supposed to help lift them up and get them in better places emotionally, spiritually, financially.

So the latest person to come to my house is my niece, who may be here.

I asked her if I could share this story, and I think she said, Yeah, I don't know, I'm gonna share it anyway.

So I'm just playing, she's here.

So let me explain to you what happened.

So my niece is oh, she's a single mom, two kids, and uh, her seven-year-old was in the back by the pool.

Now, you might be thinking, what's wrong with that?

Well, seven-year-old is black, and we don't naturally know how to swim.

Like it just don't happen naturally, like some of my friends, right?

So, and her mom wasn't around.

Anyway, so we get into this heated discussion, and I feel myself getting louder and louder.

Here's the thing I don't get loud.

Like, I don't, I don't raise my voice.

She's raising her voice, I'm raising mine.

It's getting pretty bad.

Here's what I know God created life, and life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you're not free.

Life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you're not free.

So we're kind of going at it.

And what I want you to catch is the importance of pressing in to the conflict.

So we're going at it, and my wife was there, she's like, Y'all need to take a break.

And I'm bubbling.

I don't even get mad like this, but I'm I'm bubbling.

And and I'm like, okay, what is this?

Like, what like I'm I'm mad for real.

Is my house, she's she's sounding disrespectful.

Like, I got some options, like I'm bubbling, like, yo.

And then my wife, here's what I caught from what she said.

The only thing I you always want to look for a nugget.

But I didn't think this nugget was true at all.

Here's what I caught from her.

She said, you don't listen and you try to position yourself to be right.

But she said in a much more colorful way.

But I'm bubbling, I'm mad, but I'm thinking to myself, but what if any of this is true?

What about my wife?

We've lived together for for what if any of this is true?

So I'm still mad, put my wife to the side, went to office, I'm like, she's tripping.

She's gonna say that I don't be listening.

I try to position myself to be right.

She's tripping.

I just I'm gonna ask you if she's if there's any truth to this.

I already know your answer, but I'm just gonna ask you anyway.

She, cause that ain't it ain't true at all, is it?

And my wife said, Well, I had no idea at all.

Now listen, on a scale of one to ten, me and my wife's relationship is a nine.

I don't want to settle for a nine.

So now I'm like, what is this?

Why, what, what, what is this?

I don't understand what this is, and I'm all upset and I'm uh so now I gotta go pray.

I'm like, Lord, we got this room in our house where I where it's just for praying.

I don't know if you saw the movie War Room.

It was a tall dude and about my height, look really good.

So I go, I go to this closet and I start praying, like, God, you gotta show me what this is.

Because I understand that life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you're not free.

So I'm digging in, I'm like, Lord, what is this?

What is this?

And I got nothing.

Right?

Next morning, I'm like, God, you gotta show me what this is.

Like, what is this?

Like, what is it?

And then God said, You wanna know?

I was like, please.

He said, Ninth grade.

You're in a special air classroom, and your teacher said to you, and he, and I remember all of this, my teacher said to me, Why don't you skip class sometime?

You're never gonna be anything anyway.

So they put me in a special air classroom, and I would work really hard to get out of this class.

In fact, I would work super hard on an assignment, and that teacher would give me a D, which is barely a passing grade.

And then I would not work on an assignment at all, and she would still give me a D.

And I was working super hard because I was embarrassed, I was in that class for four hours a day.

And God said to me, You're still trying to prove you don't belong in that class.

I can't get to that place.

There's no way I find that out if not for the conflict.

There's no way I get there if it wasn't for that conflict.

See, most of the time, what we'll try to do, especially as Christians, is we'll just try to avoid the conflict sometime completely.

Like I could have put her out the house.

It's my crib.

Technically, I couldn't because God said she could be there, but me and God would have had to talk about it.

I could have just ignored her.

Or we could have came to an agreement and that would have been okay.

But instead, I pressed in.

I was like, God, what is this?

And then what I was able to do is I took just that part of the burden, just my part, and gave it to God.

Just my burden.

Sometimes we try to get a whole thing to God.

Lord, take it off.

God is like, I don't want your niece, I don't want your pool, I just want the burden.

Blew me back.

You gotta press into your conflicts.

So I like to eat healthy.

Um, well, let me explain.

I'll take a Heath candy bar and a Sharpie, and I'll write an L and a Y in it.

I was eating healthy right before I came out here, man.

And I eat meat too, man.

I don't listen, I'm vegan free.

I don't mess around with that stuff.

Like, Zara King.

Yo, and they got this thing out now called the Impossible Burger, where apparently it tastes just like a burger, but there's no meat in it, and they call it the impossible burger.

It's not impossible.

McDonald's been doing that for years.

It's like that ain't even a little impossible.

Triple.

I got a friend who used to be on drugs.

He used to be on drugs a lot, and uh, and now he stopped.

Now he's a Christian, right?

I was like, dude, how you do it?

He said, man, I quit cold turkey.

I was like, listen, cold turkey wasn't the problem.

You can eat all the turkey you want.

You had a drug problem.

Like, are you free?

And the dude quit, like he quit drugs completely, and now he'll call me up with random Bible facts.

He called me up, he was like, dude, did you know they got stoned in the Bible?

I was like, yeah, but it's different than what you was doing.

Then I took a rock and just hit him in the head with it, just so he could know the difference.

I was like, that's stoned in the Bible.

I'm gonna point that out.

And I'm the type of person who loves to give.

I know Gateway is a big church on giving.

I love giving, but I try to give when I want when I should, never out of compulsion or emotion.

That stuff is weird, right?

Like, I was at the grocery store and the lady behind the counter said, I'm buying some food, and she was like, Hey, would you like to give some money to feed the hungry?

I was like, um, that's what I just did.

I don't like, I just bought some food.

I just I had a homeless dude, like for real, I had a homeless guy try to sell me a sandwich.

He tried to sell, well, let me explain what he said.

He said to me, hey, can you give me a couple dollars for a sandwich?

He's like, nah, that's okay.

I'm not hungry, man.

Thanks though.

Some of y'all need some help with that joke.

You're like, I don't, I don't understand what just happened.

You ever go to a nice restaurant, like a really nice restaurant, and then some random, you're sitting there, it's a nice restaurant, some dude in a suit walks up.

He's like, How's your meal?

Everything fine?

You guys enjoying this?

Everything good?

You assume he the manager, but you don't know.

He don't got no name tag on.

So I walk up the tables too.

I'll just walk right up to him.

How's your meal?

Everything good?

They're like, nah, it's not that good.

Really?

Come on, baby, we're gonna eat somewhere else.

Let's get out of here.

Just walk off.

Just walk off.

So after I became an adult and had a choice to pick whether I wanted to go to church or not, Christians would approach me about church.

And it was always weird.

It was always weird.

There's some creepy Christians out there.

Every single time a Christian would approach me about church, talk about God, open up a Bible, anything, it was always weird and strange.

Or was it?

Was it weird and strange, or was it just the fact that I had something from my past that kept coming up every single time somebody brought up a Bible?

Because when I was a kid, my experience at church was miserable.

It was super scary.

I remember one time a guy I highly respected, who's in the comedy industry, invited me to church.

His wife was beautiful, they invited me to church, and immediately I remember my feet starting to hurt.

I was like, back up, man, my feet hurting.

I don't even know why.

Like, they didn't actually hurt, but something in my brain was like, yo, your feet.

Had I pressed into that conflict when people were approaching me when I was younger, I would have become a Christian way earlier.

I just didn't know how to press into the conflict.

By the way, there are some creepy Christians out there.

I just want, raise your hand if you know a creepy Christian.

Yeah.

If your hand not up, it's you.

Won't point that out.

I just I won't point that out.

It's super important that you press into your conflicts.

Like crazy, ridiculously important.

I have a uh a nephew who I travel with sometime, and he was uh he was struggling.

He didn't know if he should be a rapper or a pastor.

He was like, I don't know if I want to be a hip hop artist or a pastor.

He was kind of struggling with it.

So we get on the plane, and the lady on the plane makes an announcement of what kind of food they're gonna serve us.

Apparently they're gonna give us like our options are like a chicken wrap or we could have a cheese platter.

But the lady who brings us the food got this thick Southern, South American accent, like just this thick accent, right?

And my nephew, he's sitting there struggling, but he put his headphones on.

He put his headphones on, he's sitting there, and then she walks up to him with this thick accent.

She says, Would you like Jesus or you want rap?

You want Jesus or you want rap?

He was like, Jesus, I want Jesus.

I was like, that's a good choice.

I'm over there cracking up laughing.

This stuff is hysterical.

Hey, let me ask you a question.

Why did you guys flinch just now?

Why did some of y'all tighten up a little bit?

Is it because I reached for this microphone?

So, what you're saying is that there's something that happened before that's affecting what you're doing right now.

Life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you're not free.

This is a different circumstance.

This microphone has been changed, it's completely different, it's not the same at all.

And God may be calling you to reach for the microphone so you can do what you're called to do.

God wants to amplify what it is He's called.

Cause you to do in a significant way.

But if you don't press into the conflict and give that burden to God, you won't be able to hear his voice.

You won't be able to reach for the microphone because you're gonna get caught up in what happened before.

It is significantly important that you press into the conflict.

There's people around you that you just don't like.

Congratulations.

It don't got nothing to do with them.

This is not a horizontal thing at all.

It has nothing to do with them.

It's about you and him.

He's showing you some stuff.

And you're sitting here avoiding your neighbor.

You don't like people like that.

Some of you, had I not given this illustration, you would have literally left here.

I talked with Tim Ross about this.

You would have left here thinking in your mind on some level.

I don't really like when pastors and stuff be having handheld microphones.

They should just have these kinds.

You literally would think that because you're not dealing with the thing.

You're just saying horizontal.

It's really about this right here.

Here's the thing I don't understand though.

What does someone do after they press into the conflict where they're dealing with this stuff and they don't know Jesus?

Like, where do you take it?

Like, what do you do with it?

Because I'm gonna show you, when I send you the email, I'm gonna show you exactly what to do.

And hopefully you know it's really about just giving the burden to God.

Not only is there laughter there, but there's also some peace as well.

But what do you do if you don't know Jesus?

We all know a girl who's been in a relationship before, right?

And uh is she in a relationship with a dude?

You know the dude ain't no good.

You just know he ain't no good.

And then she breaks up with him, and who she find?

Wow.

Jesus said she was like, another no good.

Cool.

I wasn't talking to you by name, but she was like, I know I'm that's exactly what happens.

You find the same one because God is trying to sand you down so you can be in the shape that you need to be in, but you're running from the sandpaper.

Oh, the but the greatest sandpaper ever is your spouse.

That is, she is amazing at doing.

I'm telling you, life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you're not free, and it'll bring them in your house.

But what do you do if you don't know Jesus?

You just you're a pinball bouncing around.

Like what would you do?

So I have this story that I always tell when I'm here about what it's like to have a relationship with Jesus.

And this story is for everyone here, it's for everyone watching at every single campus, it's for the guys in prison, the ladies in prison as well.

It's for the people at the gathering as well.

I want you to listen to this story.

It's a story about having a relationship with Jesus.

So when these conflicts come up, you know exactly how to take that burden and give it to him, like it talks about in Matthew 11, 28.

So this story, uh, well, the way I came up with this story, I need to tell you that first, is I was writing a joke.

I do what I do, I'm writing a joke.

And I was writing a joke about the good room.

How many people in here know what the good room is?

I told this story before.

Okay.

A lot of hands didn't go up.

So I'm gonna explain to you what the good room is.

That good room is the room in your grandmother's house or your aunt's house.

It's that one room that's better than the rest of the house.

Can nobody go in there, it's plastic on the furniture.

It's really just for looks.

How many people know what the good room is now?

Exactly.

So I'm writing this joke, talk to the other campuses too.

How many of you guys know what the good room is?

Raise your hand.

Frisco, everybody, like, okay, cool.

Just want to make sure.

So I'm writing this joke about the good room, and in the middle of writing this joke, God stops me and tells me to tell this story to his people.

So in preparing this message, I felt again, God want me to tell you this story again.

So I want everyone in here, I want you to imagine.

Imagine that you're a house.

And outside of the house is Jesus Christ.

And he wants to come in, but he'll never force his way in.

He actually wants you to invite him in.

And the reason some people here haven't invited Jesus into the house is because you're cool with the way things are right now.

So it would seem.

Whenever something happens, whenever something goes wrong, you just walk up to the door, crack it open, say a little prayer.

Tell him what happened.

Close the door and go back into the house.

But that is not a relationship at all.

How can you hear his voice under those circumstances?

How can he show you what these conflicts are really about under those circumstances?

Life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you're not free, and he wants you to be free.

And the reason you won't let him into the house is because your house is a mess.

Or you think you need to clean it up first.

How's that working out for you?

There may be drugs or pornography, or you're just buying a bunch of stuff.

Or relationships.

You brought other people in the house, hoping maybe they could help you clean it up, but they can't.

The only one who can clean it up is standing outside the door wearing an apron with a bucket in his hand, waiting on you to truly, truly, truly open the door.

Then there's other people in here right now watching right now.

Online, you're watching right now.

And you used to have Jesus in the whole house.

But whether you realize it or not, you've moved him to just one room in the house.

The good room.

Have you ever noticed how the good room, most of the time, is the one right up front with the big window.

So when people look in, they think the whole house is clean.

But it's not, it's just that one room.

You quote scriptures, but it's just that one room.

You come to church, but it's just that one room.

You pray with people, but it's just that one room.

You give money, but it's just that one room.

Jesus wants access to the whole house.

And I'm telling you, if you will just open this door and let him in, he'll show up with a contractor named the Holy Spirit, and they will make sure the house is fully functioning the way it was intended to.

So those things that seem to get on your nerve, you actually can talk to him about it and he can show you what happened before.

So currently you can grab the microphone that he's called you to so he can amplify what it is he's done in your life.

But none of this happens if you don't open the door.

None of this happens if you don't make the choice to let him in.

Because he'll never force his way in.

So for everyone in here right now, everyone watching, if you could just close your eyes, bow your head, even at the gatherings, I'm talking to you at the gatherings as well.

If you're in here right now, if you're listening to my voice right now, you know you need to invite Jesus into your house.

Whether it be for the first time or to give him full access to the house again.

I'm gonna ask you to do something really simple.

Super simple.

On the count of three, I just want you to put your hand in the air.

Don't overthink this.

Just on the counter three, just put your hand in the air.

Hands are already going up.

One, two, three.

Nice and high.

Praise God, praise God, praise God.

Talk us at other campuses as well, the gatherings as well, and prison as well.

There is freedom on the other side of this decision.

Okay, go ahead, put your hands down, and then look up at me.

First of all, let me say this: I'm proud of you.

Probably for the last year or so, every time I get to that point, God will give me a number on how many times I need to repeat the phrase I'm proud of you, because some people listening haven't heard that phrase from a father's voice.

So I'm going to repeat that phrase that many times, and I want you to simply receive it from a father's voice.

I am proud of you.

I am proud of you.

I am proud of you.

Not because you raised your hand, but because of who you are.

I am proud of you.

Now I'm going to ask you to do something else.

And this is for everyone who raised their hand, and even those who should have raised their hand.

On the counter three, I'm going to ask you to just stand to your feet and remain standing so we can pray together.

This is very important.

If you can't do this in here, where we're proud of you, you won't be able to do it out there.

So this is extremely important.

Jesus says, if you would take a stand for me before man, I will take a stand for you before my father in heaven.

When you raise your hand, you're reaching for the doorknob.

But when you stand up and remain standing and we pray together, it's like you're blowing a door open so Jesus can come into the house and have full access.

And you can bring him those conflicts and you can find out what's going on in here.

So again, this is for everyone who raised their hand.

I'm talking every campus, every gathering in prison.

If you can get up, I don't want to start nothing.

And the reason I'm doing this this auto call this way is because when we are dismissed to leave, most of the people who are sitting down right now are going to head that way.

You are going to do something different than you've ever done before, and you're gonna come this way against what you normally would do.

You're gonna start it right here in the physical and watch what God does in the spiritual.

So when he dismisses, when he says, Is anyone go and come down for prayer?

And they'll be here forever.

Like they'll be here as long as they need to be.

Like this is long.

Pastor Robert actually locked the doors anyway, they can't leave anyway.

At the gatherings as well, I want you to do this as well.

So we're gonna pray together.

And if there's anyone sitting down who should be standing, you're sitting down.

If you if you know who you are, if you're sitting right now, you should be standing.

You know who you are.

Some of you guys have a conflict about this decision right now.
