that seventy percent of pastors that go on a sabbatical never come back. I

don't know where it came from, but it's a stat and somebody said it,

so we're gonna believe it. But Tony is one of the rare thirty

percent, and Tony Mattar is back. Welcome Tony. Yes, who's back,

back back, thank you, It's it's a pleasure. I'm only back

because of my daughter because Lenya loves Auntie Dae. That's good. I need

a raider's roll, Judah raider's role. Also, why is that sound a

thing? How did that become a thing? Well, I wanted the sound

effect where the crowd says raiders, but Greeny, who is in charge of

finding the sound effects, is incapable of finding that particular sound effect. So

I'm looking for an employee that's able to find that sound effect. Total job

for one minute, Man, I missed you. I know that sounds weird

to say, I really did. I enjoyed our conversation. I listened to

the podcast. It was really good while I was gone. What was your

favorite podcast while you're gone? Hands down the Pek One. I love hearing

Rachel and Elijah's perspectives. Everybody has asked me if I set that up because

they were. First off, my kids did amazing, amazing producing it,

but that was all spontaneous. I didn't tell them ahead of time. The

only thing I asked them to do was to keep the amount that they made

fun of me down to about twenty five percent. Of the podcast, but

to be open and honest, and I didn't tell them what the questions were.

Yeah, the one. Here's the cool thing. I got a lot

of text while I was gone, like I miss you. We s you're

on the podcast. Awesome, thank you, really appreciate it. A lot

of people talk text me about the podcast. But then I got a text

last week and I need to address you on this. First off, I

was at the chiropractor getting my back worked on. Someone texts me, what,

dude, Peb roasted you. I was like, what, why would

pastor, my leader, my spiritual father do that to me? What?

So then I listened to the first ten minutes of that podcast last week.

It was at the part where I said I had more muscles than you had

more muscles, more hair. We have only one thing in common, comedians,

which we'll talk about that the comedy club. I want to I want

to address what really happened at the comedy club. You don't think I accurately.

I believe what happened. I believe you did. We gotta get Morgan

in here. I'm just saying thank you for the invitation. I had a

blast. We went to a comedy club in cap Hill in western Washington.

I knew it to expect, so when I said I'm a pastor, the

moment it came out, I till today have no regret. I know it

was embarrassing. I know we got roasted. Someone asked us what's the difference

between a pastor and a priest. I was going to say something very very

sarcastic, but I didn't. I tame my tongue and you said you.

I said, we're allowed to be married. Allowed to be married. It's

like, yeah, we are. Um. I thought that was funny.

And then how the comedians kept addressing us all night long. They wouldn't leave

us alone. It was us and the old couple who we couldn't tell if

they're married or dating or what their whole relationship was, like the couple from

the UK, the couple from the UK. They made them very uncomfortable,

but by the end of the night it looked like they were maybe together now.

Um, so when they're when the opening acts, who, by the

way, we're terrible? Do we agree? Do we agree? Bush came

to shove I'm funnier on Sunday morning, or yes than they are? Yeah,

they were bad. You didn't feel uncomfortable when they mocked us for an

hour. No, no, you know why because the world already hated Jesus.

Of course they're gonna hate me. See how spiritual I just got on

you and Morgan. I kept saying the whole comedy spiritual. I am unashamed

of this gospel. And they're like, yeah, we get it, but

bro, don't tell people you're a pastor. Okay, I sell fire insurance.

At some point in the next month, we are going to bring Morgan

in. And remember after the comedy shows you you went off to the bathroom

and Morgan and I walked to the car. We hadn't talked about this,

how awkward the whole night was. And the first thing Morgan does is he

looks over at me and he said, why did Tony say we were pastors?

And I was like, I know, wasn't it the worst hour?

Because our friend Andrew, who is the headliner, he's great. He the

next day apologized to me. He reached out to me. Really, he

said, I'm so sorry for those opening acts. I didn't I did not

know. I felt really bad for you guys. So even the headliner felt

bad for me. And what's awkward. But most people don't know, and

I think maybe you didn't mention this. There were like no more than twenty

five people in the room, so it wasn't like a room full of hundreds

of people. It's like twenty five of us. But it's what als Hey,

what are your plans for the weekend? What are you go going on

this weekend? Well, my wife is once again out of town on an

off the grid hiking trip, so I will probably search at sea and buy

something. I'm kind of like, you know how like when you have a

dog and your dog gets really anxious because you left it in the house alone

for too long and it starts to destroying well, you know, because you

had the world's worst dog in the history of terrible dogs. Your dog would

eat your house while you were there, attempt suicide once a week. No,

that's only one. Well, I guess it's both take their life.

They're very happy, but they they struggle a little bit, maybe with depressions

sometimes. Um, I know, I'm probably gonna go see the teenage Mute

Ninja Turtle movie looks so good. Rotten Tomatoes. Every comedian that you and

I love is voicing the turtles That's that's why I know, Um, there's

a show Errol and I started watching. It is so intense. I wouldn't

recommend it because I think there's a couple of nudity scenes and whatnot. Lioness

with Zoey Seldonna. I think Zoe Seldonna might be top three on the Greatest

Female Actresses of all time. She is everything she does, she has done

amazingly well. Guardians of the Galaxy drumline Avatar. I watched Wave of Water

during sabbatical. What's the name of her character in Guardians the Galaxy, Gomera.

I think Gomera looks like jennarment in our Church. Oh my gosh,

jed Armenta is not green like Complexion besides the Green Party. No, I

think Zoe Seldonna looks like Jenn r meant they could be like wait for you

to get a text from Gennerman after she hears this podcast. I don't know

if Jen this is too current e VENTI for Jen to ever be involved and

is the purest woman I know her, and she's the only person I know

that like when she goes home, you know, has a dial up telephone.

They lock their cell phones, you know, vault. Yeah, yeah,

we um. I noticed. Well while we were on sabbatical, we

did the whole like getting off social media. And one thing before we move

on to today's topic, it is kind of sad. I was off social

media for a month, and like everyone, I didn't know what's going on

in people's lives. People just don't like call you or text you anymore.

So I'd like text someone be like, hey, how are you doing,

and they're like, didn't you see my Instagram story? I did not.

Well. I was hanging out with a new guy in our church doing one

of our face to faces for those of you that are listening might not be

connected to venture all of our pastoral staff. When people are new to the

church and they've been around for maybe three, four or five weeks, we

get scheduled to face to face to get to know them because community is a

big core value of ours. And so we meet and new coffee or lunch.

And so I met this new guy. The first thing I started off

saying, is I Facebook stocked you so I could figure out who you are.

So it started the conversation. Would ask him questions and then he paused

and he goes, I'm embarrassed adment that I Facebook stocked you, so I

have questions for you. So the way you get to know each other.

Now, that's it's still bizarre to me. Okay, A lot has happened

in culture, pop culture, the world, and I want to talk about

it with you today. A lot of stuff. So for those of you

that are listening, our topic today is gonna be a little bit unique.

Over the last month, while Tony has been off the grid, a lot

of things have happened in the world and in pop culture, and we're gonna

share are unfiltered, filtered, uned it is. It's the point of this

podcast. Unprepared, perspectives, unprepared and this you know, you know it's

so funny. Every episode you go, this could be the one that gets

us canceled. Yeah, this could truly be the one that gets us canceled.

We have made it to episode ten. This is episode ten. I

know, for those of you that are listening, we're going to hit on

different topics. You might not be interested in some of the topics. I've

asked our production team to time stamp where the different topics are in the description

of the episode, so you can go to that description if there's things we

talk about and you just have no interest in whatsoever, We're gonna warn you

up front that we have about ten things that we're going to discuss. And

I was also shocked by how many people have told me they love when the

podcast goes long, like an hour long. I know they told me.

What I've heard from everybody is they listened to it on their commute, and

when we do the really short podcasts, it's like half their commute. Oh

so we're here to please. Yeah, we're just here to serve you everyone.

Okay, can we dive deep? Let's go for a jump, all

right. Donald Trump just got indicted again. It's third indictment. Joe Biden,

I don't know if he knows where he is right now. You know,

I thought it was fighting in his basement. Republicans calling him sleepy Joe.

He is truly looks like he's just woken up from a nap. Every

time I want to just start off by some well, first off, I

gotta play something, play a sound for me. This After our worship night

last night, I was in my office and I was just scrolling Instagram and

I came upon this by Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy, we make no political statement

here whatsoever, but you have to admit this is whether you're a Republican or

Democrat or an independent. This is gold. So he created this, so

I'm gonna play it and he can listen to it so inded, and I

just can't hide it. I'm about to go to jail. I like it

so and I just can't hide it. I know, I know, I

know, I know, I know. I am so sCOD well. The

best part about that whole video is the pictures of Donald Trump dancing on the

stage he um man. I you know this is his third indictment. I

think there's so much going on with him. Obviously we'll talk Hunter Biden as

well, but I I don't want to make a really crazy, too broad

general statement. But like Donald Trump, I just I don't know how you

take him down at this point. He he just cannot He just things keep

hopping up. He says, Nope, didn't happen, or did happen whatever.

I don't know what to think of him anymore. I think more than

anything, it shows you the state of politics in America. We're likely going

to have a ticket in twenty twenty four, that's gonna be Trump versus Biden.

These are possibly two of the worst candidates we've ever had to deal with

ever, and we're gonna have to vote for one of them. There was

an article that came out that said, these are the two most disliked candidates

simultaneously running against each other in the history of the US presidential election. So

that that says that says a lot um. I have a lot of thoughts

about this. The biggest thing I want to say is there comes a point

when you're a baby boomer and you gotta let the next generation lead. It's

gonna out of the way old people. We I mean, I still think

Trump, for the most part, his mind is really sharp. I don't

think Biden's mind is sharp all right. Regardless, do we not have any

leaders maybe in their sixties. If these isn't able to lead our country,

I mean, it is the time for younger leaders. We have, Uh,

we have Mitch McConnell in the middle of a speech last week. I

don't know if you saw this video has blown up on TikTok. He was

sharing a speech and then he just sat there and just stood whole crowd camera

cruiser at for twenty seconds, he doesn't say anything, and then like one

of his advisors bumps him aside and talks, and then it comes out later

that he was lightheaded. Does that incur that that concerned anyone else in America?

Is eating this stuff up? They just make memes of it. But

but again, we we elected these people. We just elected John Fetterman to

be a Senator in Pennsylvania. And John Fetterman, who is off of that

stroke, he has got like serious neurological challenges. And these are the people

that vote and decide if we are going to war. Does that concern anybody?

Like in the in Washington we still have Patty Murray. Patty Murray has

been a senator third grade for thirty years. Yeah, yeah, When does

the next generation? When does the next leaders? Why don't we have things

like Turmlin. It's it's really frustrating. One of the things that frustraates me

the most about Patty Murray is she went to WSU. Oh gosh, the

only reason in the state of Washington you go to WSUS if you can't get

into UDUB. So we elected a senator who we've now re elected five times,

who couldn't get into the University of Washington. Have you ever been to

udub rejects dot com. It takes you straight to w doted U. I

actually did get into udub and then I dropped out to go to Bible College.

I got into you dubbed twice, dropped out of Bible College, and

then decided to Church Plant the second time when I was going to get my

mbah. So yeah, I've never but I say that I'm an honorary grafted

in U double alumni because I have spent so much money money dub sending my

kids there. Oh man, um, now, let me just let me

kind of put a comma on the Trump Biden thing. In the last when

Trump went for reelection, like most ministers, oh here we go, he

was the lesser of the two evils. So I voted for Trump. I'm

literally gonna get canceled for that statement. Oh, you should be able to

vote who you want. But I had many friends that believed all these prophetic

words that Donald Trump was going to be re elected. All you to do

is watch the polls. It was just clear he was not going to get

reelected. They had to COVID. And I had all of these friends that

would quote all of these obscure prophets, that would We're quoting some verse in

the Old Testament where the verse in English says the word trumpet. And I

want to tell my friends that believed this prophetic word, do you remember that

the Old Testament was written in Hebrew. Nonsense, that's what it is.

So when like the word was said versed in Hebrew, I don't think the

thought was that someday it's going to be translated in So I would just sum

everything up by saying, Jesus is the hope of the world. So regardless,

I know there's many people that are anxious about the election. You're worried

about what's going to happen. And our hope is not in the political process.

Our hope is not in some political candidate. Our hope is not in

Donald Trump. That is not where we, as followers of Jesus place our

hope are. The hope of the world is Jesus. That's it. That's

it. There was years and years ago. I think I've even heard you

quote this before. Um Bill Hybels made the statement. It's been quoted and

kind of requoted over and over again. That says the Church is the hope

of the world, of the world. I actually don't even believe that.

You really don't. I think Jesus is the hope of the world. You

don't think him using his church, his people, I think what I think.

Here's the reason why I have an issue with the statement the Church is

the hope of the world. My issue with it is it's placing an over

emphasis on the messenger. The message. Sure, come on, now,

that is good. The message is what matters. And so when we say

things like the Church is the hope of the world, that means by my

books, that means go to my seminars, that means like, my church

is a really big deal, when again, we've from the get go since

we started this podcast, Jesus is the big deal. Jesus is the hope

of the world. Jesus is who we are. We are. It should

be absolute utter humility that, in all of God's providence he saw fit that

the church would be the agency, the organization, institution that God would use

to share the message that Jesus is the hope of the world, like the

church itself is. Like John the Baptist, So what did John the Baptist

say? John the Baptist. He didn't say I'm the hope of the world.

He said, no, the hope of the world is coming. And

I'm not even fit to wear his sandals. And that's why I think Jesus

is the hope of the world. I do not think Donald Trump is the

hope of the world. I don't think Joe Biden is the hope of the

world. And if Jesus is the hope of the world, whoever gets elected

in twenty twenty four, I don't know. The earth will will remain and

life will still move on, and you have hope because the hope is in

Jesus. Are we good. I think we're good on that. Trump and

Biden, this topic I'd care less about, but we'll talk about it because

I think you care. Pack twelve. There's been a lot of controversy with

the Pack twelve. So about a year ago, UCLA and USC left the

PAC twelve to join the Big ten. And for those of you that aren

into sports, the PAC twelve is negotiating their media rights and as fans and

the schools have been waiting months, it seems like every month we're told the

media rights deal is going to come out, and George Khlaofkoff, who's the

president of the PAC twelve, has implied that the media rights deal is going

to be better than the Big twelves. It's gonna firmly place us as the

third highest paid conference. And so we waited, and then two weeks ago

Colorado jilts the Packed twelve and joins the Big twelve. And the only reason

that they would join the Big twelve is because this media rights deal came in

and it is going to be terrible, and it came in and it's all

streaming through Apple. The average school makes something like seventeen to twenty million a

year when the Big twelve like that. The bottom tier makes thirty one million.

And supposedly if your school is able to add subscribers, you go up

to different tiers, like you exceed the thirty one million. This is probably

way over sharing. People don't care about this, but you exceed the thirty

million per school. If your school gets four million subscribers, oh my gosh,

it's just not gonna happen. So it's like the worst media d ever.

So teams like right now, the staple schools in the PAC twelve,

are you dub An Oregon as much as I despise anything that has to do

with the University of Oregon. They're good though they're attached at the hip UDUB

and Oregon. They they've got to be friends, they got to do the

same thing together. So now UDUB and Oregon is being courted by the Big

Ten, and so an all likelihood PAC twelve is going to dissolve. We'll

probably wouldn't surprise me if by the end of next week Arizona ASU Utah leaved

the Big twelve and then shortly thereafter we hear about DUB leaving. So the

question is what happens to our little step brother WSU. Yeah, I don't

think anyone on this podcast cares. WSU and Oregon State, fortunately unfortunately for

them, are probably gonna get relegated to like the Mountain West that Montana and

those schools I know it's about. I do feel bad for them because I

think if WSU could get an opportunity to sign with the Big twelve, they'd

probably be an upper tier team in the Big Twelve. I don't think it's

going to happen, though, And it all has to you with the community

region that you live in and the potential homes that can watch, So that's

what's hurting them. Fortunately for Seattle or for you dub Or in the Seattle

area several million households. And then Oregon has the film Night Nike Connection.

Yep, yeah, we'll be fine though. Pac twelve, Pack twelve.

Okay, next one. So do you remember when we went to Texas?

You mean Pastor and I went to Houston. Yes, went to the Jason

Algean country and chilling on a dirt road. That was fun. First ever

country anything I've ever done, and probably the last, but it was awesome.

Jason Aldean is under fire right now. I know he is getting lit

up. So if you don't know what's going on. He wrote a song

called try in small Town. He filmed a music video that displays a lot

of video images from the news. It wasn't like film, it was all

recorded from riots that occurred in twenty twenty and so on. And a lot

of people are canceling him once again. Cancel culture has come out there.

I think the new term is not cancel culture. You're getting bud lighted.

So he's getting bud lighted or targeted or targeted. Oh, and there's a

lot going on and he stands by his word. I think the heart of

from what I'm understanding, I watched the music video. He loves his nation,

he loves his country. He wants us to his words were to just

come back to the prestige we once had. I think it's he's disappointed in

seeing what happened to our country with riots and whatnot, which that is a

whole argument in itself. And I think people, you know, calling him

racist, and here's the thing, Yeah, you are actually giving him way

more credit. He didn't put that much thought into the song. I didn't

think he wrote the song. He didn't write the song. Taylor Swift is

the only artist who writes her own music, and I don't like her.

He does write his own Luke Ryan writes his own songs. He does write

many of his own songs. He did not write this song. Walmart wrote

this new album that he's going to come out like. These are all the

things that for those of us that are into Jason Aldean, we knew ahead

of time. Jason Aldean loves making Georgia, where he's from. So that's

why just about every album that he does, he does an ode to the

small town that he is from So he's done an album called making another album

called Georgia. He's very proud Georgia. But he didn't put this much thought

into this. He didn't write it. Did you know that he had nothing

to do with the production of the video? Is a production company that had

done like a dozen other music videos at that same location. Homeboy just shows

up. He knows, Hey, here's what we're gonna film today. All

right. But Jason Aldean, he's a great marketing genius and he's never going

to take advantage like he's not one to to not take advantage of a count

verses. Here's the argument that I keep hearing and someone whenever people send me

Joe Rogan stuff, I'm just like, oh my dear god, Joe Rogan's

a genius. He is a genius. But when people quote only Joe Rogan,

I just want to tell him read a book he had a Joe Rogan

had a guest on and he go, isn't it the same when rappers discuss

very intensely sexual, misogynistic things in their rap songs and like that's allowed.

So why is Jason Aldean getting canceled? I am not saying I'm four or

I guess I just he's getting canceled. Which another artist? Can we jump

to this one? There's another artist getting canceled. First off, I don't

think Jason Aldean's getting canceled. I think they tried to cancel him. It

didn't work. And then people actually listen to the song, and I think

people thought this well first of it made it shoot up to the number one

song if you're Jason Aldean. The rumors are that he viewed that as the

sixth best song on his upcoming album. Jason Aldean didn't even like the song,

So the fact that it's number one, I guarantee Jason Aldean is laughing

all the way to the bank. Yeah, he's fine. Just listen actually

to the words of the song. The words in a song are true,

like, uh, you're not gonna carjack someone in a small town because every

neighbor in that small town has a gun and will stop you. The things

that he the things he said are fairly true. Pull a gun on the

owner of a liquor store. Yeah, I think it's cool. Well,

act a fool if you like, Try that in a small town. Cuss

out a cop, spit in his face, stomp on the flag and light

it up. Yeah, you think you're tough. I'm sorry, I'm not.

This is just yeah, oh yeah. The song is gold Gun that

my granddad gave me. They say that one day they're gonna round up Well,

that beep might fly in this city, and good luck sounds like an

old man, it does. He didn't write it, but I guarantee you

and I have had conversations with people that have said things similar to this.

Yeah, as they lament like, there's a reason we don't live deep in

the heart of ours. We don't live in downtown Seattle. Most people live

like Northgate. Families live in Northgate, Shoreline, Briar Mill Creek, Linwood.

We live in the smaller towns. Yes, well, and here on

the opposite end. Now you have I don't know if you saw this.

Lizzo. So, Lizzo is a huge deal. I don't even know who

gotta be great? Is she like a singer, rapper? Singer? Yeah,

she's a big deal. Okay, I don't have a clue. She

like, I wouldn't you better describe why? I would say, a lot

of a lot of women look up to her. I mean, she kind

of leaves the feminist movement. I mean she's she's she's a prominent voice.

She's um. She is getting canceled because two of her dancers are coming out

suing her, saying that there were things that they were forced to do,

forced to say that we're against their will, so that she was like sexually

harassing them, that some comments about weight gain. There was a moment they

were in Amsterdam at the red Light district they were forced to One girl said

she was forced against her religious beliefs to go to a certain type of show

that you would see in the red light district that she did not want to

go to. Lizzo at the filming of this podcast, came out today with

a statement saying this is all false, none of it, which her entire

statement is so eloquently written. It's like she's chat GP for it. It

was so gpt whatever. It is so eloquently written. But once again here

you have on the other end, now she's getting full on canceled by I

don't know who I am. Here's the thing, if we've learned anything over

the last three to four years, you cannot mistreat your employees. You cannot

make inappropriate comments to your employee and you shouldn't. It never should have happened.

You cannot touch people inappropriately. You cannot if someone does not like even

if you're just being kind putting a hand on a show, If they don't

want to be touched, they have every right to say they don't want to

be touched. So as somebody who who is an employer and has many employees,

you just you walk a fine line with your employees. You do not

want them to feel uncomfortable. So she made her employees feel uncomfortable, So

you got to reap the consequences of it, just like so here men do.

Here's the issue too, Like these claims that are against her are really

like specific. So if she's denying any of these things even happen or whatnot,

that's kind of concerning to me. Well, I hate to say this,

but I don't even know who she is. Can we move on?

Yeah? Okay? Oh, the two biggest movies of the summer. You

want to talk about those? Should we go into that? Sure? Mission

impossible? No, which, Bob Ricky, if you're listening to this,

Bob Ricky, I did not watch the movie. He already ruined it for

me while we were golfing the other day. He's like, Hey, you

want to hear happens in the movie? I said, no, I don't,

and then he proceeds to tell me what happens. I'm not gonna spoil

it because I'm a good human. Barbenheimer, Barbie and Oppenheimer. So Bob

told you what happened in Oppenheimer. You didn't know that he created the atomic

bomb and that it eventually fell on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. You didn't know that,

Oh, he told me about Mission Impossible? About what happens in the

movie. You mean Barbie told you about Barbie? Yeah? Barbie. So

here's my issue with Barbie. My wife went and saw Barbie. Your daughter

went and saw Barbie. I took my wife to see Barbie. It was

like her dream. Yeah, I'm sure she loved it. And it is

once canceled. Everything's getting canceled. Why are conservative soa upset with Barbie?

You watched it. I don't understand why they're so upset. I read all

the things that were said about it. Here's my two sense on Barbie.

It was definitely a girl power movie, and but I was in a movie.

I was basically one of four men in the entire packed movie theater,

and I just watched girls cheering and laughing, and I didn't feel insulted in

the movie. As a man. Yeah, I didn't now Ryan Gosseling.

They made him look ridiculous. But I thought the movie was kind of amusing

when they took Barbie and they put her in modern La And my favorite scene

in the whole movie is when Barbie walks into a local high school and immediately

walks up to girls, and girls are like looking her up and down and

they know they do not think that's cool. I actually found it kind of

amusing. I thought the best part of Barbie was Will Farrell. Oh he's

in it. I'm definitely not gonna watch it. He was great. There

were so like the Will Farrell lines, as he was one of the corporate

officers for Mattel. I thought that those entire scenes I thought they were they

were kind of amusing. I honestly, Christians we get up an arm about

everything. Conservatives getting up in arms about everything. Liberals they get up in

arms about everything. I just think everybody just needs to mellow out. People

need to Yeah, and I'm sure they're gonna have to be outraged about stuff.

I just think sometimes chill out. Yeah, and before people say you

you know, you know they don't. They're not crazy about women or their

anti feminists. We literally just did a podcast on women in ministry, so

please chill out. Hey. I liked the movie, I believe more than

I liked the movie Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer I here was really good. I hear

Barbie's good because it kind of mellows out your mind after watching Oppenheimer. Well,

here's what happened to me with Oppenheimer. I went to see it and

I watched the previews. I'd had triple sleep in the last couple of nights,

and I fell asleep right at the beginning of Oppenheimer. No, I'm

not joking. I woke up during the atomic bomb scene. It like shook

me, and I woke up, and then I was kind of in that

semi comato state for about five minutes. And then I watched the last half

hour of the movie. I felt like I got the whole movie. But

then my wife wanted to see it. I went to see it with my

wife like four or five days later, and there there's a scene in Oppenheimer

like a nude scene that far exceeds anything in Game of Thrones. And the

same people that will rip and judge you for watching Game of Thrones don't have

any problem with the movie, Oppenheimer. I just I don't understand that stuff.

I like Barbie, for the most part, was fairly innocent. That's

what I heard that my wife and Oppenheimer, I mean you like, I

heard a couple of guys on her staff are going to see it. And

I literally said, hey, when this scene happens, you guys got to

leave and go to the bathroom. Isn't that graphic? It's it. My

wife was really quick to put her hand over my eyes. WHOA hello.

Um yeah. Going back to the everyone needs to chill out. I wish

there was a global way we can get everyone to just chill out. Maybe

everyone just needs to know they've canceled Disneyland. I was gonna say people are

a little bit better now. Yeah. First it was like all the liberals

canceling all the Christians and Conservatives in droves, And now lately it's been the

Christians and Conservatives canceling all the Liberals. And I'm I don't know what to

say. I don't know what to say anymore either. I think everyone just

needs to just eat some ribs and some barbecue, because barbecue makes my heart

happy. This is for my like Christian friends. Yeah, I just need

to remind them that we live in a fallen, broken world, that we

live in a world where the vast majority of people don't agree with us.

They see the world from a different perspective. They don't have our belief system,

they don't have our values. They see the world differently because they still

need Jesus in their life, and we need to give space for people to

find Jesus. But I think what's happened, Like I'm living on the West

Coast. We've been used to this for a long time because on the West

Coast, the vast majority of people around us are not Christians. So we

knew that America was getting secular. I don't know twenty years ago. But

my friends in the Midwest and in the South, they're like stunned that the

world is getting so secular. This is what happens as generations get by and

they're not raised in church and mom and dad didn't pray with them and raise

them with faith, and our mission stays the same Jesus is the hope of

the world. We've got to tell people about Jesus. The big thing that

I want to remind everybody is in the chillout mode. Jesus warned us this

was going to happen. He said, if the world hates you, keep

in mind that it first hated me. He said, if you belong to

the world, the world will love you as its own. But you're not

of this world, so it's not gonna love you as its own. So

Jesus, Jesus warned us this was going to happen. That's one of the

reasons I think Christians should The first thing that should cross our mind in just

about any setting is how is this going to affect my ability to represent Jesus

in the future? Is what I'm doing? Is it representing Jesus well?

Am I making Jesus look good? Because when going back to the Donald Trump

thing, when Christians are acting like Donald Trump is literally the hope of the

world, and that's not the truth that Jesus is the hope of the world.

And when we do things like that, people that fifty percent agree on

one thing fifty percent or politically on the other side, And when you are

dogmatic about one way politically and one way and the other way is one hundred

percent wrong. You've just alienated fifty percent of society and in all likelihood seventy

five percent of people that need Jesus as much as you and I did when

we found him. I don't know that there's the main reason. I just

think it's so close minded. I think I think we are supposed to be

followers of Jesus. We're supposed to pursue Christ, and that's the way we

live. But says it so well, he goes I just want to be

a free thinker, and that's what I've always clung onto. That term.

You got to give space for other people to be able to make this journey.

I've said it multiple times and I'll say it again. Our job is

not to change somebody's habit. Our job as followers of Jesus is to put

people in a position where maybe Jesus can change their heart and habits and values

and opinions and lifestyles. Those things change once somebody has been transformed by Jesus.

Like last night, it was it was killer. About twenty people got

baptized. I saw like probably the highlight of the whole thing. There was

many, many, many highlights, but it was so amazing seeing this gallaner

Church who is probably like twenty four twenty five. She had gotten saved like

three months ago. And it's a really cool story how she got saved.

But I don't have permision to use her na, so I won't. But

the really cool thing was she's first in her family to get saved. She

brought her mom to church. Her mom has been coming for six weeks,

and then last night her mom got baptized. And that's what this is about.

Sound for that man, a clap there we go that. That's why

we do what we do, was barben Heimer. Both movies are okay,

turn your turn, close your eyes for sixty seconds and Oppenheimer and the Barbie

movie just you know, go in and don't be judgy when you're in it,

and you might enjoy it. It's cheesy. I would never see it

again. Yeah. Um. A couple of big things happened in Seattle recently.

So we had the All Star Game. Did you go to that?

I did? Um? I thought the Home Run Derby was more enjoyable.

Yeah. Uh, the All Star Game, I realized really quick. It

was a fun experience to be at, but ultimately I didn't care about the

game because the game didn't really matter, and unfortunately none of our Mariners were

really playing. Yeah, the Mariners stink right now. No, the Mariners

they're on a roll right now. Yeah. Somebody called her role speaking of

role. Okay, So Ariel, my wife and Rachel, your daughter had

quite the experience. Taylor Swift Taylor Cheft comes to Seattle. She packs out

Lemonfield two nights, first artist ever do that. So my wife about a

week but before the concert begins is on Ticketmaster. She's in the queue.

Certain person in our church was verified on Ticketmasters, so they'd use her log

in. They were in the queue, and they'd get to position one,

and then it just kicked him out of the queue. Ariel had hundreds of

Facebook messages, literally hundreds offer up all scams. Everyone's a scam, everyone's

a liar. And then her and Rachel had this idea, let's just go

down to the concert and let's just stand outside, which is wild to me

that people want to go stand outside a stadium. There's twenty thousand people just

standing outside and just listening. They go down there thinking they're gonna buy tickets

off scalpers, and there is a mile long line of people waiting to buy

tickets. So what do they do. They go sit down, grab some

beverages, and they mellow out. And the way Rachel described it to me,

they were just sitting in there just telling their story to everybody, anyone

and everyone that would listen. And did Rachel tell you about the bracelet?

How all these women made bracelets. All these girls made bracelets for this show,

and then you trade bracelets with people. So Errol came home like a

fifteen year old girl. She had like twelve bracelets on her arm. Anyways,

that's so to fill everybody in, here's what happened there. They're in

this restaurant. They'd been telling the story. I think they were there for

about an hour, and after a while, everybody that was coming in was

hearing the doory and Rachel and Ariel kind of became popular there because everybody felt

bad for them, but they weren't given up their tickets. And then this

gal comes in and says, hey, do you mind if I video you?

And so I think Ariel just assumed I'm gonna be telling the story about

how I want tickets again. And so the girl grabs her phone and starts

recording this, and she looks at Ariel and she says, what would you

think if I gave you and your friend tickets to Taylor Swift? And would

you take them? An Ariel? It was really great because I know Ariel,

so I know this was totally just her natural response. She said,

well, I would take them. Of course. It's actually edited for being

really unfiltered, but had to edit the original video. They she said,

I don't really believe that you have them. And then the girl looks at

her husband and her husband shakes his head. And as the story goes,

this gal had brought four tickets to Taylor Swift, her and her husband went,

and her whole plan was she's an influencer on TikTok and Instagram, and

she wanted to film a video of giving these tickets away. Yeah, and

so this was totally spontaneous. It was not planned. It was spontaneously recorded

Rachel Inariel. And what's unique is that Rachel in Ariel are like besties and

it's my daughter and your wife, which is human almost and you and I

look like we're the same age. So it's kind of weird that my daughter

and your wife are so close and they end up getting these free tickets.

It's totally cool. So this gal posts this video on TikTok and Instagram and

her reel now has over three million views, three million views, four hundred

thousand likes. And here's the thing. Ariel called me the minute it happened.

I had a couple of interns over. We were watching a movie at

my house because I had to watch my kids, and Ariel is, I'm

not kidding, crying, crying. Now. I love my wife, so

I'm gonna support my wife. And I'm like, yeah, what's god?

This is awesome. In the back of my mind of thinking Taylor Swift is

an idol, she needs to go down. Yeah, there. There has

been a number of people that think this Instagram video obviously not on Rachel and

aerial side, but I think this was staged and set up and that they

knew each other. This was a phenomenal example of spontaneous generosity. It really

was. I wish I would come up with the idea I have a bunch

of people in the church, buy tickets to a concert like that and go

stand out in front and just bless people. What an amazing idea. So

that was really it wasn't staged. It was just this this charmed moment in

their life. I think it man, I don't want to make it over

spiritual, but I am a minister. I think it's just God reminding them,

Hey, I got you. I love you. Even with Taylor Swift.

Did you know that? I heard Bob Rickey said that was the best

concert he's ever been to. We went golfing. Bob Ricky not only went

to the show, Bob tickets ahead of time. He said he is the

biggest Taylor Swift fan. He brought his daughter, which is really starmer.

I had heard there was a lot of dads and daughters at the show.

Yeah, Bob is one of my closest friends on Bob's farm. He's one

of the board members at our church, and he's also a part girl.

He I love Bob to death. Him and I kind of have a little

wit. Bob is an example of somebody who went to WSU because they couldn't

get into dubed. But you know what, speaking of generosity, Bob and

I went on a golf trip to Arizona this year. I didn't bring a

certain club with me because I didn't know how to hit at that time.

Do you know when we were down there, Bob was literally going to go

buy me a full on driver from my golf bag. He was. He

didn't. I said, don't do it. I have went at home.

I just didn't bring it because I didn't want to. Bob is one of

the most generous dudes. I know. We love Bob, but I was

I was sitting at the Mariners game organ and I went to the game with

Jacob Leslie Leslie Davis of Unsellable Homes, which, by the way, season

three debuts in September. That is a free plug. I expect free swag

for saying that. Girls Anyways, they're obviously great friends, greatly have been

a part of the church for years. And Jacob Jacob's all boy. I

mean, Jacob is about as much of a man's man as a dude could

get. He's huge, he's tall, he's tough, he's gruff, and

he works for the Seahawks. I mean that is Jacob in a nutshell.

So Jacob has a job where he oversees Luminfield and any concert there he is

a part of it. He gets to go to. Jacob literally told me

Taylor Swift is the second best concert he's ever seen in his life. Who

was first? He said, his first was Metallica. So ye have Metallica

and Taylor Swift. Hey, I am going to Coldplay at Lumanfield in September.

Do you want to come with me? Do you like Coldplay? It

stand cold Play? Okay, that's the That's like the music from ten years

ago. That was That's when I started saying music peaked in the eighties.

Bands like cold Play their their five favorite band. I will go to country

concerts at Lumen. But that's it. Um real quick. I noticed it

has been not necessarily in Seattle. Actually, somehow Seattle has evaded this.

It has been warm in this country. We were just in Vegas. Errol

and I were in Vegas for eight days and it hit one of the days.

It hit one seventeen. One eighteen. Actually one seventeen I think is

the all time Las Vegas high. I think they were wondering if they were

going to hit the one eighteen. And here's how I describe it. You

know, like when your ovens on like four twenty five and you open it

up in the hot air just blows in your face. That was Vegas.

And then at night, here's what I thought was so funny. At night

is when everyone goes out and then people take their kids to the park at

five thirty in the morning when it's ninety eight degrees. But it's a dry

heat. Yeah, that's what it's a dry dry it or not it's hot,

No, it's hot. It's miserable like it just is. I read

up a while ago that twenty twenty three is the hottest year in recorded history.

Europe is having all these wildfires. North Africa, South Europe is on

fire. The Phoenix area had thirty one. They send a national record of

thirty one consecutive days, not over one hundred, over one hundred and ten.

I was watching that the Mariners Diamondbacks game. It was diamond Backs home

game, and they were saying, I think we might break the record today.

It doesn't look like we're gonna hit one ten. They're predicting it's only

gonna hit one O nine, And live on the broadcast, they showed the

thermometer go from one O nine to one ten and then one of the other

sports commentators go, did you know they've only been able to get it down

to eighty four degrees in the stadium. Oh my, you know the greatest

sermon illustration. If you live in the Southwest, Hey, you don't love

Jesus, Why don't you go step outside? Yeah? My favorite thing is

that all the all the people that moved away from Seattle, because Seattle is

like living in hell, they literally moved to states that are is hot as

hell. I don't understand it at all. All I gotta say. And

this summer has been typically it's about seventy eight to eighty two degrees gorgeous outside.

Love where you lived, Tony. I just went golfing at the Milk

Creek Country Club, and I kid you not, the weather is beautiful.

That day I hit a ball into your old backyard, into your old house's

backyard, and I walked back and I was like, Hey, that's Phoebe's

house, And I sent a picture to you. Do you remember what you

said back to me? I don't you said they got to clean the roof.

Oh yeah they did. But what I say, I would say the

weather was amazing in Milk Creek. I'm loving the weather we're having right now.

Um. So I was on sabbatical. I was off social media obviously,

and Ariel like one day I'm looking down and she's on threads. I'm

like, what is this? She goes, oh, well, Instagram launched

their version of Twitter, which Zuckerberg musk, that's gonna be such a good

fight. But threats kind of Okay, I'm gonna say it because I got

canceled for saying this from the platform on a Sunday one time. Remember when

you're on sabbatical and I said the word sucks and someone felt like they needed

to email you and tell you that I probably cuss in front of the youth

kids. This is when I was the youth pastor. I probably cuss in

front of youth kids. Don't trust for Tony says mind closed doors. Threats

sucks like super sucks. If you gotten in trouble for saying that. Do

you remember the things that I say on Sunday mornings. They emailed you while

you were on your first ever sabbatical and they said, I know you're on

sabbatical, but we need to address this issue. That person left our church.

I thought you're gonna say it was Bob Rickey. I've gone golf from

Bob he's as worse. Ah ain't line. We gotta do some editing of

this pertend oh unfiltered. That's the whole point. U. Yeah. Thread,

Thread shot out like a rocket, Facebook, Instagram as part of as

a new meta. It's basically their competition to Twitter. We all jumped on

Thread. Two weeks later, I'm gonna open No one really posts on thread.

You don't even need two threads done, shot like a rocket and crashed

even faster. Uh yeah, I just I guess it's really cool. But

like to be honest, For me, I'm an average consumer, Like I

love tech and I love social media. I appreciate what it's done for the

world. But it's too much to then go on Twitter and then check Thread,

and then check Instagram and check Facebook. It's just what do you think

about the fact that Elon Musk thought I'm gonna change Twitter to X. It's

dumber. It's as dumb as HBO changing their name to Max. Yeah,

this is that dumb. This is one of the conversations I help have them

with my dad often, so my dad will get really like baby boomer Italian

angry with sports owners and the way they manage their teams and I look at

my dad and I say, this is some rich dude's toy. He's playing

with his toy. He can do whatever he wants with his toy. So

Twitter is this filthy rich whatever day of the week it is, he's either

the richest man in the world or the second richest man in the world.

Twitter is his toy. He wants to change it to x y Z.

He's gonna do what he wants. It's his toy. He doesn't care.

I'm not friends with him. I don't know what's going through his mind.

I think he's trying to truly change the name of Twitter in the heart behind

it, all of it, because he's losing so much money right now with

Twitter, and he's losing money with what is it with Tesla. I think

he's just trying to change it all just to people who stop hating on Twitter

so much. But you were talking about somebody who is worth almost a trillion

dollars. He's really not losing that much money. He loses money on paper,

he doesn't lose any money in reality. Like he has. He has

three big things that he's working on right now. He's working on AI technologies,

working on batteries, that are going to power homes. He's got space

that that guy. We can complain all we want. The problem is that

rich people they just in the end, they don't care what we think.

Don't care. It's one of the reasons people get freshrated Donald Trump and the

things he says. When when you've been a billionaire most of your entire life,

don't you don't really care what people say? Going golfing. Um,

there's a show right now that speaking of Max, it just got extended,

Righteous Gemstones. I would never recommend anyone watching unrighteous, Unrighteous Gemstones. So

if you don't know what it is, Essentially it's a satirical uh is it

not a dramedy on based off megachurch pastors, But they live these awful,

vile, dark lives behind the scenes, but they're filthy. Rich just got

extended for I saw season four. Those are the shows that are being put

out now. A show Christianity. There's another show similar to that. It

wasn't a comedy, Dragonfly. Is that what it's called? No green Wall,

green Leaf, Green Leaf. The show David was trying to give me

to watch, that's similar to that. I've I've watched a few episodes of

Green Leaf. I've watched a few episodes of Unrighteous Gemstones more out of curiosity

than anything else. I don't really enjoy them because they hit a little bit

too close to home, way too close. The four Christians that are outraged

by these type of things there we should be, but we should be outraged

for different reasons. We should be outraged that we have that we've had leaders

that we have chosen to follow that lacked morality and ethics to the point where

we can be mocked at the level where they can do satirical comedies that hit

home this much against us. When we do what we're supposed to do.

When we believe Jesus is the hope of the world, we honor Jesus with

our lives. We pursue him the best we can. We strive every single

day to have our life conform to the image of Jesus. When we live

our lives that way, the world may still hate us, but at least

they won't be able to do satirical TV shows that mock How yeah, and

hey, I got nothing against the megachurches out there. The ones that love

Jesus have seen his favor Man good good for you go, go you.

I'm happy for you, but it's sad that there's been too many negative instances

where now HBO is making shows about it and there's well, we know that

Hollywood ran out of ideas probably twenty years ago, and we can't give them

fodder to do TV shows on. And unfortunately we have done that. And

I'm all said, we reap what we sew. If HBO started making movies

based off biblical stories, oh my gosh, I can't believe nobody's bothered to

do that. I can't believe it. You just start, was that one

to start this movie? You start in Genesis, work your way all the

way through the Old Testament. It's one of the reasons that chosen is that

TV show chosen, so that show the Bible is full of material, but

that's like it shows the humanity of Jesus. The problem that you have doing

I think biblical movies and biblical TV shows is it's so near and dear to

our hearts that as a Christian, and that was one of the issues they

had with that Exodus movie that came out years ago, is if anything is

not biblically accurate, we go crazy. And the ironic part about like that

Exodus movie, is a lot of it was um apocryphal information that they had

gotten, so there it was actually historical information, but it was just orcal

information that is extra biblical. So scholars knew where they were getting these ideas

from. And if you followed that narrative like it like a somebody who's trained

as a Jewish rabbi would have been familiar with all those stories. But to

the average Christian who only knows the story of Noah from the six verses about

it in the Bible, it seemed like utter absolute heresy. That's one of

the challenges that I know that they have with it. But I think it's

like a biopic on the life of David Well. I mean that's where I

come back to. If Christians, if we just chilled out a little bit

and instead of like nitpicking any everything that happened, and we just let them

do a biopic on David and let them take some creative liberties to make the

story a little bit more dynamic. In the end, God's word will not

turn up void. Maybe somebody will watch this and it will drive them to

the Bible. I guess I would sum up the entire podcast. That's by

saying adventure. We believe Jesus is the hope of the world, and we

also believe that the Gospel changes lives, that if people will read the Bible,

the words of God from God's Word will transform them from the inside out.

to help our staff in our work together, so it'll be good. I'll
